THE KING OF THE NORTHERN DESERT... AND THE LITTLE CROWN PRINCE OF THE NORTHERN DESERT!
i like to think that demon children are naturally very self sufficient and feral and after birth their parents just sort of. throw them to the wilds to raise themselves. but shang qinghua isn't going to let MBJ pass up on being a boydad god damn it

a lot of people will play dragon age 2 and they'll be like... whoa.... anders is truly a grey character who does both good and evil......
when in actuality anders blowing up the chantry was not only good but based, sexy, and inspirational and he has never done wrong a day in his life

Because my latest accidental interest is chemical weapons, and because all my interests end up infected with a Tolkien angle, I present to you this: the Nazgûl attacks as interpreted as a form of chemical warfare.
This lines up well both with the Nazgûl ability to inflict fear on a mass scale and with the impacts of the Black Breath. People don't necessarily know what they're facing or what's happening to them, but both the experience and even the threat of it are terrifying. It also allows the obvious evocation of WWI gas warfare, though not, say, accompanied by the physical effects of chlorine or mustard. The Black Breath has both psychological and physiological effects which require medical treatment, and this description I think could be applied essentially unchanged to instances of chemical warfare:
At length even the stout-hearted would fling themselves to the ground as the hidden menace passed over them, or they would stand, letting their weapons fall from nerveless hands while into their minds a blackness came, and they thought no more of war, but only of hiding and of crawling, and of death.
I also think it would be fun if athelas (which treats the Black Breath) was a member of the nightshade family (which includes sources of natural atropine, which can treat the effects of exposure to certain chemical agents). This would put the Black Breath in the second generation of chemical agents, maybe a type of organophosphate nerve gas

This isn't completely related to selfshipping but i unironically love making up shipnames for my s/i and the tf2 characters.

Engineer x Morale: Radio Repair
Soldier x Morale: Roger That

Medic x Morale: Herzschlag / Heartbeat
Demoman x Morale: Boombox
Sniper x Morale: Radio Silence, National Outback
Heavy x Morale: Tea and Jam
Scout x Morale: Skip Distance
Pyro x Morale: Smoke Signals
Miss Pauling x Morale: Two-way Radio
Saxton Hale x Morale: Mating Calls [this one is just dumb ignore]
Proships DNI
#if you are wondering: yes i've completely exhausted any possible communication term that personally sounded cool#{insert me becoming autistic over radios because of my s/i having a radio motif}#half of these have a radio / communications motifs on morale's end bc see above#also some explanations on the name bc why not:#radio repair is self-explanatory (engie solving practical problems and all)#roger that is slang in the military (but mostly in general) to say ' i understand ' and ofc that would remind me of him#the english word morale was originated from the french term espirit de corps (so of course)#i had so much trouble w/ medic until i remembered 'heartbeat' a few days ago and i facepalmed by how long it took me to figure that out#by comparison; boombox was the fastest and by far the easiest to think of (radio motif + boom)#radio silence was also self-explanatory#but the 2nd one references yosemite national park and the outback (since morale originates in mariposa and sniper lives in the bush)#i kinda want to do more w/ morale originating in mariposa bc that place is gorgeous#fun fact: adding jam (strawberry blackberry ect.) is a common addition for russian tea culture and i wanted to use my knowledge somehow#both miss pauling and morale would communicate via two-way radio or walkie-talkie (so that was a easy pick)#smoke signals because get it fire + a form of communication im a genius#skip distance is a distance a radio wave travels in and it usually includes a hop in the ionosphere (<- NERD)#tf2 oc#oc x canon#and thats it#💞📻#[just me yapping]

A young Christopher Lee guest stars as dastardly Larry Spence - a rising star in the world of journalism, turned blackmailer and then murderer - in The Vise: The Final Column (1.16, ABC, 1955); the episode wasn't seen in the UK until 1963, as part of ITV drama anthology Tension
#fave spotting#christopher lee#the vise#tension#1955#the final column#for more information on the complicated origins of The Vise (a US production entirely made in the UK) see my prev fave spotting post for#Jacqueline Hill's appearance on the series#Lee was hardly a newcomer when he made this ep; he'd been acting professionally since being demobbed a couple of years after ww2 and#was something of a stock player in british cinemas‚ usually in minor bit parts as caddish gentlemen or authority figures and military men#one of his first really significant roles would be later in '55 as a submarine commander in The Cockleshell Heroes#he was also making semi regular appearances on tv in small guest spots‚ albeit sometimes uncredited (as in ITV's The Adventures of the#Scarlet Pimpernel also around this time). a jobbing actor‚ basically‚ and not yet the cinematic icon he would begin (that journey starting#at the end of the decade and the beginning of his association with Hammer studios and horror immortality). he's very good here tho#host and narrator Ron Randell even describes him near the start of the ep as (something like) 'young‚ handsome‚ but sinister' which#may as well have been printed on business cards for the kind of work Lee would find himself doing for the next decade or so#yes he's a real rotter‚ a strangler of ladies and a blackmailer of tycoons‚ and in true Vise fashion he gets his just desserts and the mora#status quo is maintained (this is a very moral series and takes pains to inform us via Randell exactly what kind of punishment the villains#received after the events depicted)#Lee made two more Vise episodes but as Network (rip beloved) seemingly took a random approach to which episodes to include in their#first volume of the series (and obviously as it turned out only volume) i have no idea if either of those are on the set#one can hope! and i do bc it's lovely seeing him so young but with such a meaty role

You know why we are taught to despise the French?
and poo poo their military prowess? Even though they are lovely people & have historically been glorious, brave, and victorious on the battlefield?
And were our partner in our own revolution?
It is because they killed their masters.
And they hold their police in check.
And protest for everything. And chase their police away. And get what they want. And have a pretty nice life.
They had a violent, coordinated people's revolution. Actually several. They kept trying and dying till one finally succeeded. They put the Aristocrats to death.
All the Aristocrats. Not just the bad ones. All of them. Even Marie Antoinette who was just a spoiled princess who quipped a stupid joke that got turned into revolutionary propaganda. She got disposal as well. Some people are just too dangerous to let live.
Because Aristocrats have babies! And those babies will network and rebuild Aristocracy and no Aristocracy may be allowed to exist if the people are to thrive.
That's why. Our Aristocrats don't want us getting Frenchy ideas.
Maybe we should.

things i want to do as a writer to improve realism with experience:
-learn to shoot a weapon (pistols, rifles, bows)
-get tased, punched in the face (safely)
-experience training like boot camp without having to actually join the bootlicker's club -additionally, martial arts/self-defense training
-have a cute bf who can carry me under his massive arms like a naughty cat who just knocked over a flower pot
-get high as fuck (legally) (devil's lettuce is legal in my state now)

It's funny when someone responds to you claiming you're just repeating their point, meanwhile they missed the part where I talked about them failing to grasp that being upset about the Nazi association to Amestris while saying all fascism is bad and that the Nazi association means people have "misunderstood" the moral of fma and thus "proves Arakawa's" point is attributing ignorance to the critics while falsely claiming Arakawa's work as consistently anti-military (it absolutely isn't).
But I shouldn't be surprised.

I would now give a Monthly reminder,
Just because someone is Jewish, doesn't mean they are a Zionist.
If you want to curse the Zionist Movement, just say Zionist and not Jew.
I won't tolerate decimating two historical areas of the Middle East in the House of God

Can I just ask though why uh, we even needed Kate and UNIT in 73 Yards??? To explain the fact that this stalker is always 73 yards away from Ruby??? Because surely there was a better way to explain that instead of shoving Kate and UNIT into it, especially with how useless they were to the plot in hindsight.

🔥 the entire discipline of history
deer in highlights
okay i guess my hot take is i feel like people just have this knee jerk condemnation of history focused on wars and i say this as someone who finds military history generally rather boring. like a) even if i'm not into it i do think it's a valid form of study b) the number of like Old White Men Who Are Obsessed With Battle Formations And No Nuance is not as high as you think it is!
I honestly think it's like really offensive when I see all these posts like "when men say they love history they mean they love reading about wwii and what i mean is i love fashion history" i think it's like...sorry that wwii affected millions of people and the world as a whole and our world today profoundly. it's a very shallow and internalized-misogynistic way of speaking about history.
also like...wars affect women! wars affect everyone! wars may, shockingly, have a greater impact on people's lives and deaths and existences than fashion!
