Hm.
How should I put this?
I am Bioware's #1 "it's complicated fan." I love going into critical tags, I love reading their choices for filth. I have happily complained for hours about every single Bioware game I have ever played.
But the thing is. I've played almost all of them since Kotor came out in 2003. I have lived through multiple development cycles, multiple shifts in direction, the dark energy controversy between ME 2 and 3, the way ME 2 took a whole different direction from ME 1, the way Inquisition took the set up and lore from DA2 out back and shot it in the face and threw the body in the garbage, the way DA2 changed not only the scope of the story but the aesthetics from DAO, not to mention the timeline fuckery from Awakening to DA2.
My god, I was there when the Revan novel came out, followed by SWTOR and nothing Bioware could do would match the betrayal and pettiness of undercutting everything Kotor 1 and 2 set up just because they contracted Kotor 2 out to Obsidian and decided they were gonna kill the Exile off in a little pissy fit and then drive Revan crazy for kicks.
I remember when Andromeda came out and there was no gay male full scale companion until we guilted them into patching one in.
And yet, I have played every one of these games multiple times. I have loved these games. Sure, it took me until the start of my third playthrough of Inquisition to forgive them for what they did to the story of DA2 (among other complaints I had), sure I sat there stunned at the end of ME 3 when I played it without DLC the first time, but I loved all these games anyway.
Which is to say.
You thinking fucking Veilguard is gonna phase me?
I love this game with my full chest, like I have loved all the other games, warts and all, that came before. I cradle Rook in my hands, and I treasure them the way I treasure all the others. I love the companions, the settings, the lore (which is there! Read the codexes and listen to the people, just like you have to in Inquisition), the plot, the missions, the world, just everything.
What honestly drives me the craziest about most of the critical posts that still come out is... y'all have ruined the Bioware critical tag for a while. But also. I'm starting to wonder if you ever played a Bioware game as it came out before because listen, everything y'all are whining about was whined about during Inquisition and DA2 too.
I am however excited to see how this game will be received in the next year, in the next three years, ten years, just like all the others have changed and matured over time. (And if you're going to insist but it's not! Well, they sure said that about DA2...)

[headcanons] Domestic Lokius: Loki vs mundane trivialities
Mobius: We need to pick up toilet paper.
Loki, scandalized: You speak of this necessity so casually. A god should not be reduced to scavenging for paper scraps! There should be attendants for this.
Mobius: There are. They work at Target. Come on
Mobius, handing him a sponge: This is for wiping down the counters.
Loki, holding it at arm’s length: It is… squishy. Is it alive?
Mobius: No.
Loki: It is absorbing things, Mobius. It feeds.
Loki in a grocery store, spinning dramatically in front of the frozen peas: Is this what your people call nourishment? Locked in icy tombs? Preserved like fallen warriors? Where are the feasting halls? The long tables? The firelit mead??
Mobius, holding a basket of granola bars: They’re aisle four.
Mobius: You press the button to call the elevator.
Loki, frowning at the panel: It summons a box to lift you into the air?
Mobius: Yeah. Just press-
Loki: What if it refuses? What if it hungers for sacrifice?
Mobius: It wants you to go to Costco, Loki. Not Hel.

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you
#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what#allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of#the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than#to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do#im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt#take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was#mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their#mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that#explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain#direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in#arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to#engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out#theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive#a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked#picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing#sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example#for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war#is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old#wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for#steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with#especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can#look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never#treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time#but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made#feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them#accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me#yapping#diary

It bothers me when people use "Best friends don't do that" as an argument for a ship.
Just to be clear, I'm not dumping on any specific ship rn. This could be used as an argument for a ship I liked and it still wouldn't sit right.
Because...Why not?
"Best friends don't hold hands." Why not?
"Best friends don't start wars for eachother." Why not?
"Best friends don't live together." Why not?
"Best friends don't hug like that." Don't they?
"Best friends don't smile like that in the background of a shot." Yes they do.
"Best friends don't go that far for eachother." Yes. They! DO!
Let me tell you a story.
Not too long ago I was crew on a tallship being taken to Martha's Vinyard for touring purposes. I'd been there for a while, but there was another girl crewing who'd just signed on.
We'd stayed at the first port for a couple days, and were now heading out for the shot hop to the next harbour. The first mate was stressing hard because there was wind blowing us down as we tried to get off the dock, and also stressing is what she did best. Stressing may have been her college major.
Now, it was traditional (on this boat, where tradition was more important than sense and sanity) that we take down all pennants and flags, and run up the old stars and stipes as soon as we were out of the harbour. And despite the fact that we were still trying to coil dock lines, stow fenders, set watches, and ACTUALLY GET THE DINGHEY ON BOARD because some soaked guy was still trying to motor alongside in an inflateable-! Despite all that the first mate decided it was really important that my friend take down the flags.
She tried, but one of the pennants had gotten jammed in the rigging. I could see that, and I was haluing a tender up the side of a boat in 4ft chop with people yelling at me. You could not have brought that pennant down without ripping it off. And that was clear.
I was about to go help her when the mate walked by and my friend tried to get her attention and tell her it was stuck. Cutting her off in the middle of her sentance, the mate leaned down, said her name twice like she was so stupid to not have understood, then said: "Take down the pennant." and walked away to yell somewhere else.
My friend just stood there, tearing up, and I was more angry than I've ever been in my life.
I am not a violent person, especially when I'm angry. But
I wanted to DECK that mate. I wanted to climb up those ratlines, rip that flag down, bring it to her, and shove it down her throat. I wanted to say "Here's you stupid flag. It must have been a real danger to life and navigation if it was worth making someone cry over. I'm glad I was able to get it down for you." and drop its mangled remains at her feet.
Now, I'd known that girl for maybe, I don't know, six days? A week? We were barely friends yet. Mostly crewmates. Certainly not lovers. And I was ready to kill and die for her.
So, to return to my original topic: Best friends DO. Best friends WOULD. Best friends CAN. Best friends LOVE. And that love is not less for not being romantic. I have been it, done it, and seen it.
In short: find a better argument for your ship, because "Best friends don't do that" is simply untrue.

I've been seeing a lot of posts lately in which the op will complain that people are wildly mischaracterizing their favorite characters.
I feel like it bears reminding that "as long as you can back up your arguments with evidence, there can be multiple, and even conflicting, valid interpretations of the same text" and "just because the interpretation is valid, does not mean you have to internalize it into your understanding of the text" coexist.
#'Valid' in the literary sense.#Obligatory: not all interpretations are valid. People will just make things up. Many people have no media literacy.#*But just because you do not like an interpretation does not automatically make it invalid.*#I will be the first to say that fanon interpretations tend to lean more towards 'invalid'.#Or at the very least. The foundation might be valid and then it stretches it into less valid territory.#I've noticed this is often due to some sort of build-up effect. Take one aspect of a character and stretch it to an extreme.#Or seriously downplay other aspects of a character. Help you if someone has a favorite food.#This is not a Tumblr or shipping exclusive problem either. We are not throwing stones in glass houses. More like.#If you are in a fandom and you are trying to fill an emotional or artistic need you are coming at interpretations more heavily biased.#But so is the op who is complaining. In many such cases I often notice that the person making such posts#is not free from the same accusation that they are dishing out.#They just are upset that the more popular biased interpretation is not the one they are more comfortable with.#I would recommend trying to keep different minds when interacting with the source material vs when interacting with the fandom itself.#Just to prevent yourself from remembering The Text as shadow dolls playing make believe on cave walls.#Meanwhile please just block people who annoy you. Cherish the one life you are given.

This is a weird useless post but if wizard101 was ever officially animated by experienced animators well versed in body language, symbolism, and design I would be dead. Impactful animation and movement and dynamics between characters and the plot itself IS my hyperfixation

I've always thought it was a little curious how fans unanimously overlook that the creators of 7 K saw a younger, teenaged character (giving them the benefit of a doubt that Var might've not had an official age in-house when the idea was developed; iirc him being 14 came from one of the junior novelizations and stuck) and wanted to create an AU/spinoff where they aged him up to 18, with the clear endgame of pairing him up with an adult original character that they aged down.
