W.I.T.C.H: List of Editions by Alessandro Ferrari

This is a small list of all the original editions of witch that were scripted by Alessandro Ferrari (yes, the author of the reboot). He started writing scripts for the magazine from issue 65, during the sixth arc, and continued until the last arc. I decided to bring this list so that anyone who reads the new version can also see what his script was like in the old series and even elements or characters that may return in a new version. (I can tell you There are three editions that I consider very important for this. And I also hope that some characters he created also appear in the future). The editions are as follows:

I highly recommend reading this edition if you've seen volume 1 of the new generation. In addition to being his first work in the franchise, he didn't even hide when bringing the beings from this edition back. Hmm... Ghosts in cloaks and masks attacking the Guardians and an evil Kandrakar.... Where have I seen this before!?

CHAPTER 82: ENERGY – I recommend this edition to anyone who has already read edition 2 of the reboot and finds it strange that Will's power is "Emotion" But this edition, in addition to being one of my favorites, I consider it one of their best scripts and delved deeply into Will's life and how important everyone is to her.

And with that I close the list with all the editions scripted by him. I only tell the stories from the main arc here, but he also did some of the secondary stories that accompany the magazine. He is also the author of the Halloween special, "Magic Night".

Yes, issue 128, where Will and Matt break up, is his, but the next issue is scripted by Augusto Macchetto.

About issue 135 there is a catch. It is said on a website that he is the screenwriter of this edition, but on the Inducks website, where you have the credits for all the editions, it was stated that the screenwriter was a certain by "Andrea Ferrari". However, I have never seen this person being credited in any other edition, so it may have been a clerical error on the website. I decided to include this edition anyway.

Finally, I want to comment on the final post-Ludmoore arcs. Many people prefer to pretend that the following arcs don't exist and that's it, largely because of the loss of quality in the art and script and the lack of continuity in the magazine. And I agree that this took away a lot of the magazine's shine and made it decline until its end.

However, I still defend many of these editions, even if not all of them, the authors still manage to bring plots that could be very serious and mature if they were used well. (But they weren't, and that ends up being a problem) They often bring more details about the Guardians' personal lives, small, everyday things from their past that many people prefer. ignore, but I love it for deepening characters that remained in the background (Irma, Taranee and Hay Lin). In addition to being from the seventh arc in which we finally see Peter and Cornelia together, being a happy and healthy couple. (For more couples like this) .

In addition to having among all these loose editions some of my favorites from the entire magazine, Hay Lin arriving at her new house, the story of the girls taking care of the baby dragon, the story of Mareeve and others.

So I can say that you can always find something good in these latest editions.

It's hitting me on the W.i.t.c.h. reread just how much of a lesbian Irma is. Her whole comphet thing with Andrew Hornby and also literally any vaguely good-looking (but, crucially, unattainable) guy she comes across is impressive, but there's a whole scene where she looks at guys on the street and tries to decide who she should fall in love with. Implying that she believes that falling in love with a guy is a choice you actively make. One arc later, she has a crisis over Martin (a guy who's had a crush on her since forever and whom she likes as well - as a friend) not talking to her anymore, impulsively dyes her hair black, and then talks to her mother about how she feels abnormal because she never falls in love with anyone while her friends all have crushes or boyfriends. And even the whole thing where she nearly starts dating Joel, whom she likes and gets along with really well, ends up not going anywhere. They never get together. The queer subtext with her is so heavy, giving her a random straight love interest in the New Power arc was criminal.

It's just another reason I can't really stand the reboots and I'm really not looking forward to the next one that's coming out I believe it's supposed to be the last book I'm honestly hoping that these books just don't do well I know it's kind of wrong to wish a book doesn't do well when people are putting time and effort into it and I'm sure there are some people and kids who are finding these real books for the series and they're loving them and even some fans from the OG series who probably love these but I don't know I wish they could have just made a different show and use the w.i.t.c.h. I peed it maybe make some more comics link to the original series I was talking about this with

Someone on Reddit and they had mentioned how they wished that we had got some more comics that brought back some of the original characters that we didn't see who were around a lot in the beginning of the story like Martin Nathaniel we don't know what happened with Eric oruba didn't get to come back I'm surprised elyon even showed up at the end of the comic I think at the last minute somebody remembered her and I only have to add her to the end since the story started out with her there are a lot of characters we just didn't really see a lot of especially when the story took more of a what's it called a lesson of the week type of story

pattern when the girls were on that ugly pink school bus where they were teaching magic to people which is stupid I still don't like that story or to this day there's a woman I watch on YouTube who's covering the comics and so far she's gotten up to around Arc 6 or 7 and I remember I hated these arcs cuz that's when the story started to suck for me a lot of stuff that happened after the Astro drops got away and then the Oracle got kicked off the council a lot of stuff after that in the story suck there were still some good moments in the comics

and I don't even mind the new power ark matt begin from kandrakar is still bs and after everything that happened with Cedric and the book or whatever or maybe I'm getting some arcs mixed up cuz I didn't really like that part with the book and they have to go into the book to save mad a lot of stuff that happened after the new power art I didn't really like that either I admit I am just complaining a lot but even though I wasn't that fond of the arcs

That followed after a certain point I still have love for the comic and still continue to read it cuz I grew up with these characters and love them and like I said there's somebody else who will find these books and will love these books that have come out the past 2 to 3 years but there are some changes like I know it's a reboot but they didn't have to like completely reboot everything they could have still had certain things still like be Canon to the og story

W.I.TC.H. The heart of friendship is a new manga-style graphic novel, presented as the reboot of the famous original comic series In this modern adaptation, set in the present day, the group of friends Will, Irma, Taranee, Comelia and Hay Lin fight a mysterious threat from another world. The girls will discover that only together can they save the day, because magic is most powerful when shared. 20 years later, here is the new version of the Witches, which remakes a story based on the original comic series, but in the form of the graphic novel. This is a completely new story, a modern adaptation for today's female readers. The protagonists reflect the expectations of young contemporary readers: they are today's girls who live their daily lives in a modern world in step with our times. Daily life, fashion, technology and society are inspired by reality allowing for greater empathy between readers and protagonists. A fantastic "reboot" that will allow young readers to discover and fall in love with this new magical version and will bring the historic fans back to THE HEART OF FRIENDSHIP memory of their magic.

The original comics spawned a franchise with a variety of printed media, including both reprinted and original content, as well as audiovisual media. The first two arcs (The Twelve Portals and Nerissa's Revenge) were loosely adapted into an animated series by Jetix Animation Europe (Now named Disney Europe Animation) for Jetix and Disney Channel.

Paleotheos

Forward: I’m sharing my work on a story I’ve been working on here as an outlet for my creative process for. This post will cover the basics of the world and overall plot (to a certain extent, I still want to keep some pieces close to the chest). Feel free to ask any questions or inquire on certain parts of my writing through replies or rebloging.

What is Paleotheos?

Paleotheos (Literally ‘Old Gods’) is a story/series I’ve been working on for since Fall of 2023. It’s a prehistoric fantasy inspired by magical girl series like W.I.T.C.H. and Winx Club, in a setting inspired by Dinotopia. 

Story

Paleotheos follows the story of five girls who’ve been brought back to life by Divine Spirits. Now Divine Aspects, the girls must journey to understand who they are and what their place is in a world where they are both gods and ants.

In later posts I’ll be covering the story up through the first three planned arcs/books (Awakened Aspects, Ghosts of the Old World, and Into the Elderwood) as well as a prequel set a thousand years prior (FateWeavers).

Characters

A brief synopsis of central characters that will go more in depth in separate character specific posts. The blurbs specifically are based on Awakened Aspects, ie arc 1.

Kex - the Aspect of Lightning and defacto leader of the Aspects, Kex knows little of her past and less of herself. But when the witch Mecana started to appear in her dreams and point her to the Elemental Temples, Kex took her fate in her own hands. Now with a motley group of friends, Kex hopes their journey will enlighten her on who she really is. Something that wouldn’t be concerning if there weren’t people that seem to know more about her than she does. 

Elohi - the Aspect of Earth, praised for her beauty and valued for her strength, as one of the older girls she’s made herself the guardian of their misfit band. But journeying into places and memories she had never explored, a question wavers her resolve. Will she be strong enough to protect her new friends?

Kumari - the Aspect of Fire, Kumari is a girl trapped between two identities. In her past life, she was a gladiator fighting for her freedom, trusting no one but herself. Now, she’s an amicable individual, quick to earn friends and loyal to the end. When the memories of her old life come back it divides her self perception. Will she be able to know which face and life is truly her?

Adal - the Aspect of Water, an obnoxious flirt and total mess of a human being, Adal lives life at its fullest, the consequences be damned. And when they finds an odd girl with lightning powers on the side of a road, Adal find themself on an adventure they can’t say no to. A journey with new friends, divine spirits and a history forgotten. What could possibly go wrong?

Xaawo - The Aspect of Air, Xaawo makes it a priority to learn and document as much as she can about the world she finds herself in, much to the annoyance of her new friends. Her love of discovery is to be sufficiently satisfied while joining Kex and the other Aspects on their journey. Entering places that paint an awe inspiring canvas of the world that came before. How will she react when she learns that she’s part of that canvas?

Mecana - An elderly, mammoth riding witch that appears in Kex’s dreams that points her and in turn her friends to the Elemental Temples. In those ancient places she promises they’ll discover the secrets to their pasts and their natures as Divine Aspects. However, it’s hard to tell if she’s just an elderly hag or knows much more than she leads on.

Elytheon - the mysterious Aspect of Wood and hailing from the isolated Elderwood, Elytheon meets the girls as another wayward traveler, joining them on their journey. Though as parts of the young man’s past are revealed the girls, they begin to question if he approaches them as friend or foe.

Broad Concepts

Divine Aspects

The Paleotheos equivalent to fairies, sailor scouts, or guardians. A person is a divine aspect when their spirit/soul is intertwined with a divine spirit. The union grants the individual the powers of that spirit, in return allowing the spirit to experience the world around them. Divine spirits have no will or conscious of their own, and if the aspect is killed, the spirit finds another soul to bond to. Typically these souls are ones claimed by the spirit previously (ie the divine spirit of Fire claims souls of those who were killed by fire, and any of those souls could become a divine aspect). As such, Kex and her friends are just the newest aspects to be risen from death. 

When aspects utilize their powers, tattoo-like markings light up on their body. The pattern of these markings are unique to each aspect.

Divine Beasts

The first transformation that the Aspects unlock, a divine beast is the unadulterated power of an aspect’s divine spirit brought to the forefront. Often taking the form of prehistoric creatures, a divine beast is an aspect’s most powerful form, however it is not without risk. To transform, an aspect’s divine spirit must give themselves up to the divine spirit within. While transformed, the aspect has no direct control over their actions. And if they remain in their divine beast form for too long, the transformation will become permanent.

Divine Beasts are often - but not always - prehistoric animals. In comparison to similar animals that naturally live in the world of Paleotheos, Divine Beasts have inherited fantastic traits. So, though Kex’s divine beast form is that of a T-Rex, doesn’t mean it looks the same at other T-Rexes within the story. Creatively speaking, this means they don’t have to be tied to the known physiology of these creatures.

Zenith Form

Analogous to your more traditional transformations in the magical girl genre, an aspect’s zenith form allows them to tap into the power of their divine spirit. All the while allowing them to keep their will and conscious.

Reading the W.I.T.C.H. reboot, rewrite time!

Overall… there were some interesting things here and there but… no, it’s not good. The pacing is too fast and it looks like a whole arc compressed into 100 pages. These are the changes I’d make:

-Keep all the original designs but add some new details (for the parents, mostly).

-Cornelia is the one that tutors Will.

-I liked it more when each one had a different passion.

-Taranee is like a nerd. We need more nerdy girls. And she retains her personality.

-Maybe she’s just moved too and Corny shows the high school to both of them.

-Elyon dreams about her mother and, one day at the library, meets Cedric.

-He says she’s from the Metamoor and her mother is waiting for her. He gives her something, maybe a magic crystal, so she can see through the Veil.

-Elyon wants to tell Cornelia about it, but Corny is busy tutoring Will and Taranee. They agree to meet after school.

-Kandrakar is looking for the new guardians and the Oracle thinks Will is worthy.

-Cornelia’s sister can stay. She’s the reason she tries too hard to be perfect in everything. But, also, she hates being compared to her.

-Irma can still hate the water and Hay Lin can be working to gain money to… guess what? Her grandmother is living with them. She just wants to go to China to meet her distant relatives and get to learn more about her culture.

-Will hears Matt playing the guitar while she’s cleaning her new bedroom and that’s how they meet.

-Cornelia stays more time with Will and Taranee because the Knickerbocher tells her to not leave them alone. Irma and Hay Lin go to school to help with the school fair or something and see them. Cornelia introduces them and goes to talk to Elyon.

-Elyon tells Cornelia about what she has discovered and Cornelia doesn’t believe it. Elyon says she’s leaving soon.

-Will feels a headache when she sees Elyon. It’s like she has a bad aura or so.

-The five girls connect immediately and make plans to go to the school thing together.

-Instead of finding the floating things, Will just enters Kandrakar as she goes home. The Oracle explains everything to her and gives her the Heart. Will has a crisis because she doesn’t think she’s good enough. The Oracle says she’ll have to give the others their powers.

-Will tries to meet them and explain what happened. The girls think they’re crazy. However, Hay Lin, who thinks there’s something out there, asks her to continue. Cornelia then blurts out about what Elyon told her.

-They receive their powers but they’d have to unlock them.

-Elyon and Cedric are trying to open a portal. The magical energy disrupts the whole city. The WITCH find out how to use their powers by helping with the situation. They can’t transform yet.

-They reunite again to talk about Elyon. Cornelia wants to help her. Will tries to ask the Oracle, who tells her they have to protect a lot of worlds now, and Elyon going back to the Metamoor would be a good thing.

-They find Elyon and Cedric and let them know they’re going to help. Cedric says not only they have to open the portal, but when the Veil is broken, lots of creatures from different worlds can come into theirs, so they have to be ready.

-They use their new-discovered powers to open a portal. Immediately, a lot of monsters appear. Cedric transforms and tells Elyon all the people from the Metamoor can change. Will feels the Heart bursting with energy.

-The girls transform and fight the creatures.

-Elyon says goodbye to them but they’re the Guardians now, they’ll see each other soon. The Oracle appears and thanks them.

-The girls feel a little better about their lives now that they have powers. But a new threat approaches…

what i wouldn’t give for a winx club/w.i.t.c.h. crossover like IMAGINE

- an alternate season 4 where the winx go to earth not to make people believe in magic/track down roxy but because faragonda is getting readings of strange spikes of magical activity in a small city on earth called heatherfield and wants the girls to see what could possibly be causing magic surges on a magicless planet

- maybe during book of the elements arc? since the literal elements were going nuts that’ll fr cause an energy spike, plus the kandrakar portal getting used daily

- they end up undercover as new students in sheffield institute looking for the magic signature of the heart of kandrakar

- bump into w.i.t.c.h. and they have that “i’m just like you, you’re just like me” moment

- at this moment w.i.t.c.h. are way in over their heads w the elements and dark mother so even if the winx completed their mission of finding out what was up in heatherfield they decide to stay

- IMAGINE THE BONDING

- the winx could help w.i.t.c.h. with their newfound increase in power, since they all struggled controlling their new stronger powers when they got their enchantix

- everyone gets flying lessons.

irma would complain that their outfits aren’t as cool and sparkly as the winx and they only get one,,,, and then during the new powers arc she’s like “i stand corrected! new outfit!”

- bloom teaching taranee how to bond with her fire and accept the duality/entirety of such a destructive power

- cornelia watching flora and thinking that the earth doesn’t just have to be stubborn, solid, and firm, it can be gentle too

- will introducing tecna to all her talking household appliances!!

- musa bonding with matt over his band (there’s a musa/cobalt blue collab at the end of the season)

- irma and joel introducing musa to karmilla

- cornelia taking stella on a shopping trip!! and hay lin getting sewing advice from her to make her own clothes

- imagine if irma could use morphix??? and you can’t tell me she wouldn’t lose her Mind over how cool aisha is

- aisha and taranee going to jensen’s together to dance 🥹🥹

- flora gets her superstar moment healing dark mother’s tree!!

and at the end of the season the oracle thanks the winx for their help and offers to send them home through one of kandrakar’s portals, and w.i.t.c.h. realize magix is accessible to them because kandrakar is the bridge between all worlds, all dimensions. bloom hugs will and tells her “when you ever feel like visiting, we’re just two portals away!”

just . WINX AND W.I.T.C.H CROSSOVER, OKAY????

Do you think the guardians of w.i.t.c.h. would stand a chance dueling against the gaang? Sokka would fight Caleb since they don’t have elemental powers (my bet is on Sokka). Aang would only be allowed to airbend to make things fair to Hay Lin. Personally, I think Taranee and Cornelia would beat Zuko and Toph. By the end they would have to join forces to defeat Nerissa’s evil plans but she would win against them all, because she rocks and Cassidy would back her up.

Not me taking 10 years to answer this! I feel like the Avatar characters would probably win out based on how far I've read into W.i.t.c.h. I only read up to Nerissa's arc and part of the arc after that one. I've heard that the guardians got new power ups and the like in future arcs.

But as of the point that I've read up to I feel like the Gaang would beat them; they have more training and practice. Though I think that it would be a close fight. Although I can see Taranee being able to beat Zuko.

But more than anything I would love to see Azula team up with Nerissa. That would be raw power and brilliance to an unstoppable degree. And also Nerissa becoming Azula's new (terrible influence, I can make her worse) mom. The chaos! The schemes! The both of them have a thing for being master manipulators. It would be a lot of fun to see.

In general it would be super cool to see a mashup of two amazing franchises. Throw Winx and Naruto in there and I feel like we'd have the ultimate 'element show' crossover.

For the W.I.T.C.H. reboot: is Hay Lin the only one with martial arts knowledge (shown in the New Power arc of the comic), or are they all going to learn? If yes, will it be Capoeira as in the comic?

Honestly I feel like the ones who should know some sort of maritial arts would be Irma and Taranee. Like, they have parents in law enforcement ofc they'd make sure the girls can defend themselves.

- wings look boring? i hope theyre just ? folded up or something. i think the petaled look to them was so iconic for them. i do like they still have a gradient color to them

My current obsession since EoA ended😭But it is super good, subtly critiquing and commenting on things in modern society while delving into a dark fantasy world. Yet is still full of heart, love, found family tropes and humor. Very relatable. I also love it.

Kim Possible

Who can forget how Kim Possible defined a generation. It did for me. From the sarcasm to the action scenes to the shipping, there’s a reason that this is a classic show for the ages. Always worth the rewatch.

Ducktales (2017)

This show just brings a smile to my face just moments of hearing their voices. You can tell they’re having fun, or at least they’re very good at acting like it. Also hilarious and I love Scroldie. It’s what got me into it in the first place.

Gargoyles

I cannot stop recommending this to everyone I know. It has all these disparate threads like noir 90s NY, Celtic mythology, Shakespeare, corporate technology and more but it all works somehow. Its bananas but its so layered and good with its subtle messages on racism, revenge and trauma. It also has some of the best villains.

American Dragon Jake Long

Another classic alongside Kim Possible. I will always rock out to the theme song. I loved seeing Jake grow and of course, the magical misadventures and the epic star crossed love story between him and Rose.

Phineas and Ferb

The songs, the songs are always what get me. They’re just so good, and I just admire how long running it is, to be able to hold out long inner show and meta jokes and the epic, complex frenemyship of Doof and Perry.

W.I.T.C.H.

I’m showing my age, aren‘t I? While I’ll admit the first season isn’t that special, the second season is where things really get going as the multiple, actually good villains target the girls and they all get power ups and well theres a lot of other stuff. It was a bit of a grimmer Winx Club. Though I love both equally.

Brady and Mr. Whiskers

This got on because of nostalgia reasons, I’ll admit it. Pure unadulterated nostalgia. I still think it’s good.

Gravity Falls

I just watched it last year and I must say it has lived up to the hype. The cryptic s and mysteries and supernatural creatures haunting Oregon really turn the genre on its head. I also really enjoyed what it had to say about growing up and family bonds. Plus some really good false herrings, I gasped so much.

What I want in the Winx reboot

A very unpopular opinion: retconning, minimal, but I think some of it is necessary, take the fat out off the story, add something new, fix some plot holes and story arcs

Fix Riven and Musas relationship or make them break up point blank, Riven learns to be a decent human being and they are just friends by the end of the new season and no coming back, it would be great representation for single asian girls, which in my opinion, is very much necessary because of toxic beliefs in asian culture around marriage and relationships.

No more Flora The Punchbag, i want her to kick ass and look fierce doing it instead of fainting and getting beat up like the first seasons always did

No more Mary Sue Bloom or having forced protagonism, let her be flawed, make mistakes, the girls don't need to kiss her ass all the time, etc. She works best as the Normal One™ trope and helping guide the viewer thought this weird new environment instead of always being the focus of everything.

Musa using instruments as weapons more often and having music as a more literal motif of her magic, same for all the other girls.

More of a personal opinion, but I feel that Tecna would be better as a fairy of energy/thunder, i always headcanon that I makes more sense instead of just straight up being a fairy of technology, and her having control of technology is more of addendum to her magic than being that she somehow can like summons a gaming PC out of nowhere lol, the same way Aisha/Layla is a fairy of waves but her magic is more focused on Morphix.

More focus on secondary abilities and creative magical abilities.

More character depth for the Trix, i actually want to now what motivates them personally to work together as the descendants of the Ancestral Witches, since the show inadvertedly suggested the girls aren't really raised to be evil, and if we are gonna also reboot the Valtor arc, don't make them fight over him out of love, it makes more sense their because they don't wanna share the power.

Mirta shouldn't become a fairy, it makes her beliefs that witches and fairies can get along inherently invalid, because she wasn't a witch to begin with. Make her a witch that gets her magic from the same positive energy fairies do even tho she has a seemingly nefarious power of creating illusions and manipulating people's perception, but still having more neutral or anti-hero intentions than the fairies stereotypically have, maybe even add a fairy that wants to be more like a witch, lots of one-off faires were malicious enough to have magic come from negative sources.

More in depth view of magic as a whole, what is the actual difference between a fairy, a witch and a sorcerer? Which one uses more or less, which one has more setbacks and side effects for using magic?

More development around The Specialists, I feel like It would be best if they were the middle ground of magic and technology and it was more obvious, make their suit and armor enhance their physical abilities, strength and stamina thought science(because some of the things they could do against big ass monster makes no sense otherwise) and their weapons out of some sort of magical concentration or human essence of magic.

More weird abilities for the girls to actually differentiate them from Bloom as a earth human, make Ayesha be able to hold her breath for very long and swim faster than anyone else, photographic memory and very fast learning for Tecna, fast healing or higher endurance/adaptability for Flora(not being affected by toxic atmospheres, poison and anything of natural sources), super hearing and being able to understand any language for Musa, both Stella and Bloom already had lots of extra abilities so I feel this would balance things out.

Either retcon Enchantix as not actually being "the most powerful form of a fairy" or just change their design without having to give it a new name all the time, maybe something like "Enchantix: Magic of X" so stuff like becoming Mermaids, resistant to cold and being able to fly at high speeds make more sense instead of having to be a whole as new transformation instead of just a addition to it.

i rememeber rereading the whole series up to the ragorlang saga during quarantine in 2020 and i was surprised about how. boring? caleb was like literally everything about him was boring. he was introduced as "cornelia's literal dream boy" in the same volume they meet, two volumes later he's hit with the Flower Beam and when he comes back to his og form like three or four volumes later (that we rightfully spend having a final battle rather than focus on him) he breaks up with cornelia

and later on when we meet him during the oracle arc that hint of personality he might have being the leader of the rebels and all is. completely gone? like his personality begins and ends with "im loyal to elyon" and that's it. and the least i talk about BOTH of the caleb-centric specials the better

like im a firm irma/cornelia truther but at least i can say cornelia and peter are MUCH much much better than her and caleb. he was there just to make things worse -- both to start off the nerissa arc, to make cornelia's character growth start from the literal bottom (which. to be fair she's my second fav after will so all's well what ends well i guess), both the timelines where they remain together are proven to be nothing but traumas and despair for everyone involved AND. AGAIN. THE ELYON x CALEB SPECIAL DOESN'T EXIST :) if i can pretend the series is over after ragorlang I CAN PRETEND THAT THEY AREN'T CANON :)))
