feeling like it might be about time for another update to my failboat design. especially if he does get new glasses

dont expect any super major changes, usually when i do a design update i just tweak a couple things based on new info, like if there's a branding change (ex. hoodie changed to button-up shirt), a change in his actual appearance (glasses, facial hair, eventually his PHYSICAL BUILD???), or if i just personally notice smth about him i didnt before (like i did for his eyebrows once), or i just make a change i think looks better, like small adjustments to his hair.

this time around, i dont really have anything in mind that i personally want to change just for sake of modification, but maybe other than his glasses (if that happens) and his build (when that happens) i might actually design a few different outfit choices for me to use other than the standard white button-up and black pants w the yellow stripe. but idk, does anyone else have ideas for changes i could try? guy's gone through a lot of updates in my art style over the 6 years i've drawn him lol

i dont actually know the general consensus on I Am My Own Muse but to me it very clearly feels like pete addressing the fans directly - almost like a conversation? like the opening lines "here i am not sure you should take a chance. I like playing dumb letting you figure me out" basically completely summarises petes relationship with us during the early parts of this era. His uncertainty coming back but also the way he likes to keep us on our toes (like hes always done). His constant surprise that even one person appreciates his art. His odd fourth-wall-esque relationship w us - he always knows more than he lets on. like. these are crazy opening lines.

Especially looking at other songs petes addressed to us (namely thriller and our laywer). Those songs still feel like petes putting on a persona for our benefit. Hes talking to us through the mask he thinks we'll like best - but for his benefit not ours. In those songs he still wants to show his appreciation for the fans but hes afraid to be vulnerable about it. He hides behind tongue and cheek self deprecation (put this record down, we are bad news, we're only good to have almost famous friends... that whole song tbh) or like implication of rejection/disaster (we r not making an acceptance speech, car crash hearts, only thing i havent done yet is die) and its all glitz and distraction bc thats what he does. he will tell us their hearts beat for the diehards but not before telling us why its a bad idea. its defensive from the get go but in Muse he doesnt do that. yes he defends himself but his tone is balanced between resigned and resolute. its stripped down to just his own thoughts voiced aloud. it feels so much more genuine despite how much vaguer in address it is.

Also the general theme of this song is feeling hidden/secret (e.g. the angels didnt know his name, him feeling faded, feelings were tucked away) but trying to draw attention anyway(throw the year away, smash all the guitars, drop a bomb on things we care about) even if its hard/painful (twist the knife again, trying to keep it together).

This coupled with the title is a perfect representation of his journey as an artist in this era no? The vulnerability hidden in old songs and spoken word poems that he relives each night of the tour. An amalgamation of every little moment he created and tucked away is reborn on stage. And who has he shared this particular journey with??? The fans. It was us who he finally trusted with his works and words in the shows and we sang them back at him. Patricks journey alongside pete has felt more obvious bc of his whole demeanour but its pete who wrote his heart out to us. I think this song is a way of pete kinda of juggling this idea in his head before it ever took shape in thw real world. A way of connecting back with his audience. Not as an act of nostalgia but as moving on together. its a gorgeous song and it feels like a love letter to us in the very oarticular way a love letter from pete wentz feels like. its not soft or even sweet but it leaves you feeling comforted and stronger anyway. its solidarity yk.

Awwww I *love* this. I *adore* "I Am My Own Muse" and I always have and I love everything you say about it. To write a song that sounds like that and then call it so deliberately "I Am My Own Muse," like, that we are there and ever-present but in the end he's got to come from his own authentic place. Its new years eve, and you've decided to spend it with the titans

the towers still covered in lights (mainly because cyborgs hasn't taken them down yet) and you admire the city from the rooftop

The titans set up a small party, with drinks, some music, and a TV screen with the times square new years special playing

JOHNNY VINCENT AND DOLLY WILLIAMS HCS

Met at the diner, he’d strolled in for something to drink in the middle of summer, and they got to chatting. He made a dumb joke about her being cooped up inside instead of playing, assuming she was just a kid. Dolly was quick to put him to rights about the whole ordeal, letting him know that she was, in fact, 16.

Johnny tried and tried to teach her how to ride a bike, it just didn’t work. When she was still new in the clique, she’d have her riding on the back of another greaser’s bike but as they grew closer she ended up just riding with him.

Dolly has so much dirt on him it’s crazy, he started frequenting the diner when things started getting rocky with Lola again, just to have someone to talk it out with. Even after it had started clearing up for him, he started finding himself coming back just to chat. Not even to vent or cry all over the counters, to ask about the weather, or sports or what she was planning on doing after Bullworth

Johnny admittedly felt a little creepy hanging out with her, he was 18 and set to graduate soon, and she was just 16. He didn’t want anyone to get the wrong ideas about him, he wasn’t a creep, he was just a kid in need of a good friend. Thats all.

crisp, clear, midsummer air filled the lungs of Johnny Vincent, mingling with the hot, heavy smoke of his last drag of dying cigarette. He and Dolly were laying atop one of the abandoned shipping containers, watching clouds as they passed, quietly musing what they thought they looked like. Johnny couldn’t’ve cared less about the game, it was too much like the ink splotch tests they’d made him do when he was in the looney bin; but it seemed to make Dolly happy, so he played along begrudgingly. Overhead, a small flock of birds passed overhead, in V formation. They appeared to be migrating. Johnny gazed up at them, only snapping out of the trance when he felt the container jolt, Dolly was up on her feet peering into the sky, they were calling like crazy as the passed overhead, low enough to be heard. It was almost haunting, like a coyote call or something. “D, what’re ya doin?” He inquired, heaving himself up so he was sitting, his legs still flat “Wow, they’re so beautiful…” Johnny snorted, she was so easily pleased “Oh yeah? What kind are they?” “Common loons.. I mean I think so” “What’d you call me?” Dolly looked over at him, not knowing if he was being serious or not, Johnny let out as raspy chuckle and lay back down “C’mon back here before you get hurt”

Oh man more Dr Benzedrine's monster stuff bc this au has been rotating in my head all day he totaly knows what frankenstein is like read the book or something and he saw it and as a scientist couldnt hep but think what if.. especially woth modern science hmm.. and the suitehearts like heard him musing but thought he was joking about it but then benz fukin creates Ghoul and is like man this is a scientific breakthrough.. if only there were respectable scientists out there like me and not just goddamn better living. Because benz may be out of his mind but atleast he's a rebel 💀. Anyway he totally hides Ghoul at first even from the suitehearts and Ghoul like new to the fucking world doesn't even realize hes being hidden hes just like guess this lab is the whole world then? But he has like weird flashbacks bc like freaky kind of stuff like irl how people who've had certain organ transplants have said they like have memories or feelings that arent their own and nust be from the donor via cellular memory(look it up its a crazy cool thing to learn abt and its gonna play a decent part in this fic and ghouls like internal struggles) or like their personalities chage entirely after getting a heart transplant and Ghoul's made up of different peoples body parts and organs and someones brain that was zapped back to life and he experieces these memory things to the nth degree and eventually he even remembers like a childhood like a good chunk of memories from whoevers brain his was before him and he literally remembers growng up on the streets benz of coirse thinks its all just fascinating but thats how he like fogured oit hes being hidden because he has little flashes of the world passed on from everyone hes made up pictues of both the city and the desert and he grows impatient really fast especially since benz keeps bullshitting him and saying he wouldnt unerstand and that hes safe there in the lab and stuff and the doors stay locked theres no windows and he hates it and starts hating benz even though thats like his maker who is kind yes but also idk if its not safe out there i cant stay here forever type stuff. But one day when benz is out he manages to bust out just to emerge into a bigger like compound that turns out to be part of the underground rebellion of battery city and this specifically is the suitehearts bunker and he throws open the door just to come face to face with sandman and they just fucking stare at eachother.

Once they sort out just who each other are and why ghoul came out of benz lab and why he has no name or anything sandmans like holy shit the crazy motherfucker really did it and when benz gets back he gets a good long lecture of the ethics of building a fucking person. Not that it chages anything benz is too far gone in it all

im just now realizing some of these notation marks are letters instead of numbers....X appears several times (that footnote is on page 107) but theres also like, LL (but if the first L was reversed)? and this one is F (page 122). not sure if there is a meaning here

the song on page 479 is apparently "when johnny comes marching home" which i had to look up but thats where the tune of that song the ants go marching one by one comes from???? u learn something new every day.

i like that the footnote on page 488 is another of those aeronautic symbols (theres a chart of some of them on a collage in the back) and this one means "heavily injured, need a doctor"...............

She worries for him daily. He’s her best friend, and the person she cares most deeply about. She knows he has demons that he doesn’t really talk about, and thats fine- She does too, but he seems to have a keen as hell eye for when she’s not feeling herself, and he rarely lets her stew in it for very long. She loves listening to him talk, his voice is incredibly soothing on her ears, and his antics and personality make her laugh like crazy. She knows she can count on him for anything, and thats so, so huge. She loves him dearly, even if she's hardly around to show it.

They've both changed a lot since they met one another. Drastically. That's what life is about though, isn't it? Stagnation is sickness. These are things he has struggled to learn and understand-- because he, himself, stagnates, and has for the majority of his life.

Stuck in place.

She's blossomed since leaving Paldea behind, and truthfully, it makes Proton happy to see it. In a way, they both shut the door on their old lives simultaneously-- but one broke into a sprint towards across the bridge into a new domain, while Proton has remained on the other side, afraid to fall into the water.

Not everybody has to be like him though.

They've both changed a lot since they met one another. Drastically. They don't see each other as much anymore. They pass one another, wave, exchange kisses and promises, 'please be safe out there.'

The sky and the land both compliment one another, and teach the other what it is to be free, and what it is to be grounded. Yet, they must exist with that distance between the two.

Things are different now. He has to mourn that difference. The love is there. The love was always there. The love is different. But it isn't gone.

Knowing that it is there, is freeing in itself, even if he can't be there every step of the way. Even if he wishes he was the one who was at her side constantly, experiencing these wonderful, life altering moments-- there are things he cannot do.

And just because there are things he cannot do, doesn't mean that Rika should be deprived of those experiences.

The sky will always see the earth, even when they are worlds apart. Even when they cannot show that level of care. Even when that is mourned in his corrupted, distorted brain.

He will never regret being the one to hand her the scissors that she needed in order to cut those ropes that held her back. That role will never be able to be taken away from him. He sleeps well at night knowing that he gifted her the tool-- even if it was Red who showed her how to use it.

i can safely say that it has insanely changed when i first came here TEN years ago. things were a lot more simple and graphics were not crazy insane, but i interacted with a lot of in character ask blogs! thats the one thing i kind of miss because they'd make lots of content for themselves and they were genuinely enjoyable! but i will say it hasnt gone bad OR good, its changed insanely now. with the change in seeing more supplied rules/guidelines is honestly good because you set boundaries that way. not a way to walk on eggshells, but more so you understand why people have set what they wish for.

for me, ive had a few things that have made me immediately unfollow. so, my one stickler is just... porn. specifically anime porn, but ive had smut blogs who have stolen art on their character profiles that are suspiciously 4K, but their writing is less than the bare minimum. big ick from me. another reason is a ludicrous amount of OOC posts that are emotionally heavy. ive had to softblock new followers for this reason because they have either major suicidal intentions in their posts or complaining; no in-between. and just to include another thing before i move on: no activity at all. like... i'd like to see some attempt that you're writing and not six months of no posts or longer.

LASTLY, uhh... i honestly dont have that many pet peeves, but if i wanna be super super specific? people who use their muses as a means to gain sympathy from their partners or a reaction out of their muses for attention. i have seen this happen and have it happen to me on an occasion. and not like "oh i want someone to respond to this open post!" but as in "im incredibly sad/depressed/emotional, so my character is therefore depressed, but in an extreme way and needs a specific muse/partner that i want comfort from".

do you know how fucking draining that is? you learn to pick up the behavior when you notice it because you'll fall for it the first few times. i know damn well ill get some flack for mentioning this, but it's a problem. i don't like it and it makes me lose ANY interest in you as a partner because THAT alone tells me you want someone to smooch you up and make you feel good with fictional characters. its fucking weird. im here to write and have fun, not to give people emotional sympathy that will barely last a fucking week.

❤️ - How did your muse come to realize their romantic and sexual orientations? Was it difficult to accept? Are they proud of who they are?

Wingnut: they may watch a lotta tv as their main information in the outside world, but I think Wingnut did realize she liked girls because of one thing; not at all relating to the idea that girls are super boy crazy - because like, girls are just better. She assumed this was universal and very quickly realized this was not. I think it did kinda click when she used the interwebs to see other ppl’s cosplays of her favorite characters and was very much hit over the head with “holy shit, women!” Beam.

All jokes aside she’s fine with it! Her family accepts her as she is, there’s some teasing here and there about her complete lack of rizz when it comes to girls but that’s more to do with wingnut’s skill issue than her being gay. She’s not exactly a casonva.

Ray: he never really figured out he was gay specifically until a bit later. He knew he liked dudes he just didn’t really know there was a word for it. He would tend to gravitate towards more monstrous men- stuff like werewolves, sea creatures, some kinds of demons. Cuz, he’s not gonna pretend tht he’ll ever have a chance with human men. He says it’s pragmatism, it’s mostly just not feeling adequate enough. He won’t lie- he was a little jealous seeing how well Scumbug and splinter worked out.

Mondo: He loves everyone, and that translates to romantic love too. Mondo never really had a big realization, just as a fact of life and has gone through it knowing that’s just who he was. Honestly it may be a case where all of his siblings knew before he did LMAO. Probably the most likely to own a big ass tyedye bi flag. It’s one of the best qualities in his opinion- the flag colors are awesome.

💘 - What is your muse like when they're in love? What does your muse find attractive in someone else? What are their love languages? How do they show affection? Do they show any distinct signs that they're in love?

Wingnut: if she gets a crush she’s just over. Thats it. She’s done. I feel like- she does like women who- take up space. Loud outfits, loud personality’s, big women, even bigger hearts, enough tattoos to consider yourself a subway wall, the kind of confidence that feels contagious. Though, even with that type I think she’s way too nervous and shy and would make a fool outta herself somehow.

Give it time and she’ll mellow out a little more, offer to spend time doing things they both like. Most likely to end up word vomiting some kind of confession after awhile of simmering on it. In the end though, she’s got a lot of love to give and isn’t afraid to show it- most of the time.

Her love language is that she’s going to binge watch anime with you and talk the whole time (/JOKES) - but real talk. She loves spending time with the one she loves, even if it does mean she’ll have to sit through something she may not enjoy. The company is enough. She’s no stranger to weird, and if they love her weirdness, she’ll love it too.

Ray: unlike the nervous sorta deal Wingnut has his knowledge of having a crush would be - well, apprehension mostly. Especially if it’s a human. Cuz- ok, he can find plenty of men who like other men, they live in New York, but like. The whole “mutant” thing may be a a bit of a hard sell. Though not as much as it was before the humans had more knowledge of mutants. He’s still unsure about it all. Still, it doesn’t stop him thinking about it.

I answered most of the attraction part already in the other ask. As far as like, showing it. He would make a mixtape, then think about how stupid and corny it is to make a mixtape, sends it anyway. He has his own playlist of love songs that he has- he’d rather eat his own tail, stinger attached than ever tell anyone. This also applies to the crush - he’d never be the type to tell them directly; he’s more than content with the companionship. Because sure he’ll never say it with words but would be like- would use one of the “wings” to shield with rain, knows who their favorite musicians are, stuff like that.

Mondo: oddly enough I think he never gets crushes. Not- capital C crushes very often. He’s an affectionate guy and has a lot of love to share but it’s never really relevant if he’s romantically attracted to someone. For him it’s less like, any sorta qualities of someone it’s more a matter of like. It’s weird to describe but like almost like a soulmate sorta deal, where someone just- Gets You on a level few people can.

He doesn’t take love seriously, which isn’t to say he doesn’t care about it, or even hates it. just means it’s another part of life. So if he does like someone, it just means he’ll do what he always does! Invite someone to go to a rave with him, get frozen yogurt afterward, help practice skateboarding tricks at the park- and somewhere in the middle if he confesses or not, but it doesn’t make much difference to him.
