If you don't mind my asking, how do you go about drawing fat? :3

JUST THE EXCUSE I WAS LOOKING FOR

So, for me personally, a lot of the time when I draw fat characters, I'm not looking to specifically capture the specifics of fat as much as the feel of fat. Bulkier, rounder shapes in the right places that has a feeling of weight to em! A lot of that is intuition and simplification at this point, but it all works on the same frame as just any ol' person. Like take this-

For example. This is the basis for any body shape, not just the more average one that it may imply. Sure- it can be that average body shape:

But also a fat one too!

And a big part of that is knowing where fat usually tends to bunch up on the body, so lets take a look piece by piece! (Please keep in mind this is very simplified, and not completely precise in some parts)

THE FACE: Cheeks (in purple) and especially the chin (in light blue) are the places where a lot of the fat is gonna wanna gather and round out on your face! Additionally, theres a small pocket of fat beneath the cranium on the backside of your head. It's small, but it is there. I believe fat can build up elsewhere like the bridge of your nose and forehead, but generally speaking, you're gonna have a whole lot more buildup in other places first.

THE TORSO: A lot of the fat built up on the torso is gonna be sent to your tummy. More cushioning for vital organs, mostly out of the way, it just makes sense. Additionally, the lower backs fat builds up and joins with a patch of fat on your sides that forms what is typically referred to as the love handles to make that double belly look. Along with this, the immediate next target for the torso is the breasts, followed by the upper back!

THE ARMS: For this limb, a VERY notable amount of the fat present builds up on the tricep and bicep areas, lessening once you get towards the flexor and extensor areas. You can almost think of the arm as a sort of triangular shape, wide side starting from the shoulder and tapering towards the hand, which itself mostly builds up fat around the back of the hand and the fingers. The shoulders themselves don't build up too much fat unless you got a lot

THE LEGS: And finally, you can think of the legs having pretty similar curves to what you're probably already used to thinking. The front of the thighs getting a big buildup, along with the back of the calves, the other parts being flatter in turn. As far as the feet go- similarly to the hands, the top of the feet, along with the heels get most of the buildup, as fat on your soles would impede mobility. The glute, hip and crotch area will also especially build up fat, lending to the same triangular shape that you can see in the arm!

A big thing to note with fat is that it tends to taper off towards joints. Your knees, elbows, shoulders, hips, and all the other places are gonna have significantly less fat so that you remain mobile and flexible, as that's important!

Now that we have an idea of where fat builds up on the body, you might have something that looks kinda like this

Which yes, does demonstrate a solid understanding of the places fat builds up, lacks the weight you're probably trying to convey, which brings us to out next point! Fat is well... heavy! Gravity is what gives fat much of it's shape, especially as you tread towards larger and larger bodies.

This is demonstrated really well on the arms especially-

Those big ol' bits of fat'll really start to sag when left hanging, and they will squish like hell if they run into something. I like to think of these bits of fat as big ol' ovals that squash and stretch depending on if there's an obstacle in their way or not

These are the important shapes to remember when it comes to the weightiness of fat! If you take all of this into mind, you should be getting something a lot closer to that shape you've been after!

Oh, and always remember that fat bodies come in all variety of shapes and sizes! Play around with a whole lot, and seek out all the resources you can! it'll really lend to your knowledge when it comes to this kinda stuff!

And as I always recommend when it comes to learning art- look at what your favorite artists do with fat bodies. See what you really like about the fat bodies they draw and try to replicate it in your own work, I promise you it's one of the most helpful things ever.

This is like the most basic of basics when it comes to drawing fat bodies though. If there's any additional thing about fat bodies, or maybe you want clarification on something, don't be afraid to ask! If there's enough to cover, I'll make an addition to this post!

So, I decided to make a Pure Vanilla relationship chart. Yes, I view all of these as romantic (... Though, as romantic as they really can be with him. He's got that swag of a non-standard queer way of viewing relationships, probably) Zooming in is recommended for... Obvious reasons.

because i never stop thinking about clothing here's the layer list so far, more or less in the order you would put them on in:

underwear: likely modified combinations, just to protect the other layers from oils, the skin from being pinched by the corset, while keeping a modest and fanciful flair to the overall aesthetic. these probably have little ribbon accents and definitely have unnecessary lace detailing because we stay on theme here. theres a lot of edwardian going on here and i know combinations are really more of an earlier thing but i think theyre cute and i can do whatever i want forever

corset: initially a steel boned underbust. i am now considering something more built for tightlacing, which under any other circumstance i can't stand, but in this one singular instance has some narrative fun to it. i am currently waffling between an edwardian s shaped corset or something that leans more modern hourglass. going to keep playing with this

???: MAYBE some structural help here. very hard maybe. the petticoats might be enough tbh but maybe padding or something...?

petticoats: nice and long, probably not floor length, because why would you want to dirty MORE layers if you dont have to but at least ankle length for sure. about 4 layers for sufficient poof

corset cover: cute and ruffled but not overly so, just enough to hide the lines of the corset while adding a little bit of fluff to the bust. just a teenie bit.

blouse: its a shirt! aex's blouse has big fucking angel sleeves because i will never know peace (change the sleeves?) never. anyway this too is lacey and frilly and honestly in terms of vibes very reminiscent of edwardian lingerie blouses

underskirt: the blouse gets tucked into this one. i want this to vaguely resemble a 10 gore empire corsage skirt but since this is already being worn with a corset, aex doesnt need the additional boning. nice and floor length though, no sneak peaks for free.

overskirt: nothing as elaborate as the late victorian overskirts could get but something adjacent might be nice. i havent entirely worked out the shape for this yet but this is maybe the last thing on my list of tweaks as i could probably remove it and still be content

so if you had normal legs you would put socks and shoes before corset but this is not a concern aex has. i cant even make a horseshoes joke because shes got cloven hooves.

additional things aex is wearing that are not strictly clothes but are noteworthy:

crespinette: okay so if you dont know what these are (fair) yknow that medieval hairstyle with the buns on the side of the head held in place with net (sometimes decorated) and a circlet type thing? that! sometimes this has a veil of some sort attached. jeanne from bayonetta has something akin to it in one of her hairstyles, and ive taken inspiration from hers specifically by adding the lil dangly bits shes got goin on for some reason.

veil: this is seperate from the crespinette solely because its a different type of veil situation than would normally be used here. what we have here is a floor length lace veil, akin to like wedding mantilla style. this is held in place with the crespinette and little combs probably but im not overly concerned by it

little tear shaped jewels: this might be makeup later but im leaning towards jewels. three little tear drops under the eyes for theming reasons.

collar: this is a theming thing. it also doesnt come off. yeah yeah unicorn in captivity we've all seen it moving on.

sleeve garters: this is wholly functional because good god her sleeves are ridiculous (change them?) never. these are just before the elbow to keep a good range of motion without significantly damaging the Drama

gloves: WHOOPS almost forgot these. nice wedding white leather gloves.

honest to god i need to stop making complicated oc design. won't because the creative flex at this point is too fun. but i need to. i was going to make my life easy this time! but no i had to add actual corsetry. and then i get to waffle on whether its an outer garment or an undergarment. and then i wonder if the inital corset shape is too modern and still fits with the themes and then-

They think the malicious aura around him is just something that Chung Myung carries, but little did they know...

No one sees the monster until an ancient artifact finds its way into the Mount Hua Sect.

As thanks for saving their town from the demon cult members that attempted to pillage them, the village leader offered Mount Hua one of their village's well-kept relics that they found no use for anymore since there was no one in town who had any spiritual energy for it to resonate with.

It was an ancient artifact that revealed malicious demons and tainted creatures within its zone, allowing the holders to easily eradicate them and remove the plaguing monsters.

Baek Cheon did not think too much of it when they accepted the gift. He didn't know there would be any reason to use it anytime soon but still received the artifact with grace and gratitude.

However, he's proven wrong.

He returns to the sect alongside Jo Gul and Yu Iseol who accompanied him during the short mission and arrives around the tail-end of dinner time. Instead of proceeding to the Sect Leader's Office as should be proper, they first head over to grab a quick meal due to the loud rumbling from Jo Gul's stomach. The Sect Leader would understand.

((He'd also be scolded by Hyun Young if he withheld food from the children escpecially after a mission, but Baek Cheon digresses.))

They arrive at the mess hall with the artifact in tow to a splattering of greetings and congratulations. There were only a few disciples left; the others already turned in for the night.

Just as they were about to sit down, they felt pinpricks of inexplicable terror pierce them. They abruptly turned towards the entrance, swords pulled out and pointed.

Chung Myung enters. He's not alone.

Primal fear was the only way to describe what they were feeling as they made eye contact with the...thing...behind their youngest martial brother.

Its body was shaped like a human, but there was something distinctly off about it. If they had to describe it, it was as if the creature—because what else could you call it—molded itself into what it considered was the appearance of a human.

Its face and neck were a tad bit too long. Its shoulders were too wide and too sharp at the edges. You couldn't see its feet over the dark fog surrounding its steps and its hands were closer to claws as they held Chung Myung's body against it possessively.

Baek Cheon reflexively took a step back when the creature's eyes turned toward his. Instead of white, the creature's sclera was pitch black with the tiniest pinprick of red denoting its pupil.

Its head suddenly snapped at a 90-degree angle. It triggered every sense of preservation the disciples had.

It observed them. Its pinprick red eyes swept across the cold-sweating disciples who stared at the unfamiliar monster with wide eyes.

A wide-eyed Yu Iseol made the first move.

Operating on pure force driven by the desire to protect rather than being consumed by fear, she swung her blade directly at the monster. Teeth gritting and going against their body's instinct, Baek Cheon and Jo Gul quickly followed suit.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

They're all thrown back harshly. Chung Myung had his sword out, his body moving to stand directly in front of the monster.

Chung Myung was shielding the monster from them.

Contrasting the manic look in his eyes, he calmly asked them, "What do you think you're trying to do?"

Behind them, they could see the monster's sinister wide grin as it sank its claws deeper.

The concept of all Cass's original civilian clothes she wears when she first debuts being hand me downs from Babs or extra clothes Babs found around Gotham, so Cass just assumes it's fashion for things to either be overly baggy or overly short and just buys a bunch of crop tops and jeans three sizes too big for her. And she just never stops, if the clothes actually fit her perfectly she hates them. Baggy or too short, no in-between.

It's the Elemental Sanctuary sketch. I used a lot of filters to make up for the lazy drawing (gotta learn all those "sharpen"s and "gaussian blur"s). I kind of went for the feeling more than for the visuals here, so yep.... it is what it is

I can talk for hours about how great some soundtracks are there! I absolutely love the music in the Elemental Sanctuary (pretty much the whole reason for why I drew this) and the one that played during the flasback to Vaati cursing Ezlo

Vaati as a minish looks so cute! Though, when I first saw him in the game (in his sorcerer form), I thought he was wearing pyjamas and slippers and he looked so funny to me. I still can't unsee it :)

Endure vs. End, Go vs. Take

“Just let me go”: the cycle must end.

“Or take me with you”: the house must endure.

In The Apparition, Vessel gives the person he’s singing to a choice; to let him go, or to take him with them. Despite his love, despite the history between him and the person he is addressing, he asks for them to put an end to the turmoil of their interactions. He wants the uncertainty, the back-and-forth, the dream-like haziness of a precarious relationship to just be gone; he wants an answer. He wants to know where he stands. But, by the end of the song, he does not have the answer— he is “empty,” left with his “loaded dreams,” i.e., something unreal that is still heavy with substance.

In the SMHTDF teaser, he gives us, the audience, a choice: swords, or feather— “the house must endure,” or “the cycle must end.” Instead of asking the person he loves for an answer, he is now turning the question to everyone else. What should he do? Fight for the relationship, or fly free? From this angle, the relationship— though tentative and unstable— is something worth fighting for. However, it is still weighing on Vessel’s heart.

I believe that “let me go” and “the cycle must end” are linked. Before, Vessel was pleading to be let go, to be released from the back-and-forth, neither-here-nor-there relationship that he has been locked in for so long. Now, the pleading is over. There is only a statement: “the cycle must end.” The back and forth must end. The cycle of yes-no, dream-real, here-there has run its course. The feather can be seen as a symbol of freedom, ascendence, and the divine. It is time for a breakthrough, for Vessel’s ascension— but at the cost of what? Love, perhaps. A person, maybe. Familiarity found in the persistence of their relationship.

Similarly, “take me with you,” is linked to “the house must endure.” Vessel pleads, just as he pleads to be released, for his addressee to take him with them. To put an end to the uncertainty and to welcome him into their realm, their arms, their side. He wants their relationship to be solidified. He wants their love to be real. But, just as with being let go, being taken also has a cost. Two swords crossed can symbolise unity, the joining of two people or two families. However, this amalgamation can also lead to a loss of freedom, of personhood, of distinction.

Over and over again, Vessel is presented with two choices. Both with their own costs and their own prizes.

To be consumed.

To ascend.

Now, he presents that choice to us.
