There’s an old saying in Mondstadt: all things come to an end. The phrase—despite its bittersweet tone—was more of a reassurance than one would think. When people spoke it, it was with a glass in their hands and a smile on their face. Laugh, celebrate, have another drink. All things come to an end, so let’s enjoy this moment while we can.

Venti didn’t need to be told twice. He was always ready to kick his feet up, raising a glass to whatever occasion it was, and letting the spirit of festivity light sparks in the air. And this occasion was no different; as soon as he caught word of a celebration for one of Mondstadt’s returning heroes, he was already sweeping into the Angel’s Share to join.

But tonight, tonight there was something missing. The mood was amicable, the drinks were plenty—and he would know, he’d swiped a bottle of wine as soon as he’d the chance—but one certain presence was missing. You’d been there at the start of the party, laughing and drinking alongside him, but somewhere in between him spontaneously serenading you with a ballad, and mingling with old friends at the bar, you’d vanished.

The absence made him frown. He scanned the room for any sight of you, hidden away in some corner he’d overlooked, but to his dismay, you were nowhere to be seen. 

Still, you couldn’t be too far. Venti waved away an offer of another round of drinks, sliding out of his seat and retreating to the door. As he pushed it open, a cool breeze rustled through his hair, ruffling his clothes. In the light of the lanterns hanging overhead, he could see a figure huddled up at one of the outdoor benches, alone. 

“You’re not celebrating,” He greeted. You look up, a troubled expression softening at the sight of him.

“I was just getting some fresh air,” You smile ruefully, watching him pull over a chair to sit beside you. “You don’t have to stay out here with me. Go, have fun.”

“How could I have fun without you there?” He counters. “Besides. It’s a nice night out here.”

“It is.” You agree, and the pair of you lapse into silence. 

For someone with so many stories to tell, and so much to say, Venti is rather fond of your silences. Only when it’s with you; when neither of you have anything to say, yet no desire to leave each other’s side just yet. There’s something to be said about the space between, the gaps that you fill as easily as breathing, with nothing more than contented silence and each other’s company.

Words were never a necessity. They were certainly treasured, but he would just as soon revel in the chance to simply sit with you, feeling the wind on your shoulders and your affection spoken through any means but verbal. It was a treat, a gift to call you his lover. Just having you there was more than enough.

“You seem tired,” Venti hums, bringing your hand to his and rubbing his thumb over your knuckles. He pulls it to his lips, pressing a featherlight kiss to your palm. “Do you want to go home soon?”

“Maybe soon,” You sigh. The weariness in your eyes speaks volumes, even if you’re too stubborn to admit it. “Are you sure you want to leave? I know you were having fun, catching up with people.”

He laughs lightly. “I want to be wherever you are. And if that’s home, then I’m more than happy to sneak away with you.” 

A smile brushes his lips, one painted with adoration. After a beat, he reaches out and draws you in close, a hand on your cheek guiding your face to his. When your lips meet, it’s soft and sweet, tasting faintly of wine. You don’t rush, you don’t hesitate, you don’t think of the party you're leaving behind. The only person in the moment is him.

“I love you,” You sigh against his lips.

He smiles into the kiss, warmth filling him from head to toe. “I love you too.”

All things may come to an end, but as long as he had you to keep him company, Venti didn’t care in the slightest.
