Welcome Home Drawing Week Challenge - Day 2

Day Two - A Character You Haven’t Drawn/Don’t Draw Much

I’ve drawn each WH character at least once, so I went with the second option. I would say that the award for the character I draw the least would be Eddie- Frank comes in as a close second, but I have a few more WIPs featuring him than I do Eddie. Thus, I did a lil headshot the Neighborhood’s Dear Mailman!

Anyway! He was very fun to draw and color- I can’t say he’s too difficult to draw at all, his shapes are actually quite fun to draw. The main thing that’s difficult for me with this him is that I have trouble coming up with ideas of what to draw him doing. He’s not a disinteresting character by any means, I just have a difficult time coming up with ideas for him compared to everyone else. It stinks, it really does.

Imagine Meeting DMC 2 Dante

So, I finally got around to playing DMC 2 and Dante is so much more stoic in that game than he is in any of the others. He doesn't talk much and is just a very serious lad compared to the other games where he is the wacky woohoo pizza man.

Capcom trying to make him this way didn't hit too much and I'm sure the rest of the fandom can agree from what I've seen from other reviews.

This isn't where this post is getting at tho.

Seeing Dante more like Vergil in this game had me thinking.

What if this is the Dante you met?

Imagine having baby Nero, walking around Redgrave, and seeing the white-haired man. He's in red so you know it's not the man you met a few years back but maybe he's at least related. It couldn't hurt to check, right?

So you walk up to him and he doesn't say anything but he does notice Nero. And Dante immediately thinks that the boy is his. And he's confused and a little scared. He wasn't made to be a father, especially not with the life he lives.

So he tries to let you down easily and leave the situation as soon as possible. He tries until you say, "I watched you go the first time, I can't let you go again. Please, even if you aren't him, I need someone related to him. Nero needs his family and I'm the only one."

And Dante realizes you are Vergil's mate and this was Vergil's offspring, Dante's kin. And a protectiveness washes over him and he instantly feels the need to protect you, the boy, and kick Vergil's ass the next time he sees him, no matter the man's condition.

So with a few words, Dante takes you back to the DMC building and gives you one of the upstairs spare rooms, and helps you take care of Nero. He tells you about Vergil and their family and in turn, you tell Dante about how you and Vergil met and about his new nephew.

He helps you raise the boy as he becomes the moody, sarcastic hotheaded teen we see in DMC 4. And at some point Nero does ask about his father and you both tell him and he still hates Vergil just as much as he does in DMC 5.

And seeing Dante become this light-hearted, wacky man over the years kind of helps soothe you and you could see yourself living the rest of your life helping Dante with his business, even if it's just as his financial advisor.

And when Dante and Nero go on their mission in DMC 5 and Dante finds out it's his brother behind all this, that battle at the top of the Qliphoth is much more heated and Vergil can tell this is something more than just getting back at his brother for opening a portal to hell and trying to become the ruler.

So when they're walking through hell, Vergil has to ask. "I know there is more to this than our old rivalry."

Dante hums. "Yeah, it is."

"Enlighten me then brother." "Nero, he's yours." "I thought we established that already?"

Dante chuckles. "Yeah but not about his mother."

Vergil looks at his brother curiously. "Is she alive?" "Very much so. She's been staying with me since we were 30. She came to me on the streets, begging me to stay thinking I was you. She's quite the woman, Vergil, I can't believe you let her go."

Vergil hums, nodding.

You will always be grateful for Dante letting you in and helping you out. And Dante will always feel like he's in debt to you even if it should be the other way around. Because you are his family, and he will do anything and everything to make sure you never end up like the lost woman who came begging for his love and approval all those years ago.

What’s your favourite sims death?

In all my years of playing, I’ve only ever had a total of seven Sims actually die on me, because until very recently, I’d never played any Sim for long enough (let’s just say that I have a low boredom threshold). All those have either died from old age (two), needs failure (one - oops!) and the ‘death by childbirth’ mod (four). So, I’ve never seen most of the possible deaths and can’t really say! It absolutely wouldn’t be death by cow plant though - those things seriously creep me out and are banned from my game!

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

I’d say Maxis Mix - I sit somewhere in the middle of the spectrum.

Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?

Nope! If I have to work off those unwanted pounds, then so do they!

Do you use move objects?

More than you could possibly know. Especially to move toddlers up and down the stairs - because Sims can rarely get their act together to do it by themselves.

Favourite mod?

Always and forever ACR - couldn’t play the game without it. (I find instructing my Sims to woohoo just a bit too weird, so I’d rather they took matters into their own hands. And since I play a Wants-based game - as far as possible - I prefer them to take charge of their own family planning too.)

First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?

University. I got each and every EP and SP as soon as they were released, such was my addiction.

Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?

Who’s your favourite sim that you’ve made?

I love them all as if they were my children. I do have a sneaky extra-big soft spot for Bertram and Jasper though. OK, they were born in-game, but I created their parents, so that counts - right?

Who hasn’t? (They were pretty dull to play though.)

Meh, if you’re twisting my arm, then red.

My favourite hair colour of all is Pooklet’s ‘Brisance’.

Favourite EA hair?

I admit it, it’s still Fuzzy Long for lasses (although I do have a default replacement for it, as there are custom hairs that I like a lot more!), and Caesar or Short Gel for lads. The unisex Dread Bands also gets an honourable mention.

Favourite life stage? Young Adult, because that’s when life really starts to open up for my Sims.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

Oh, both, depending on my mood! I tend to go through phases of one or the other.

Are you a CC creator? In the dim and distant Sim past, I was once a pretty prolific creator, but I got utterly burned out by it, especially since I’m painfully perfectionist and nothing was ever good enough. So, creating now very much takes a back seat, and I’m mainly just having fun actually playing the game, which I never had time to do in my creator days.

Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad? I don’t think I’ve ever had a ‘squad’ in any capacity! :D I appreciate each and every one of my mutuals that I've ever interacted with - they’re all lovely souls!

As soon as I first discovered CC (I played for a couple of years without it), I craved as much realism as I could get. I also had a serious grunge phase. Now, I lean much more into the bright, cheerful, Maxis aesthetic, since for gameplay purposes, I find that it suits the cartoony feel of the game much better.

Who’s your favourite CC creator? Too many to mention. I’m immensely grateful that there are still so many terrific creators making content for TS2.

How long have you had a simblr? Since 2012, I think? It was like a ghost town around here though for a spell in the middle.

What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next?

Sadly, this is a dream that can never be realised for TS2, but I’d like something similar to TS4′s Cottage Living pack (although EA’s interpretation of English country living bears absolutely no resemblance to the reality!). And rideable bikes and horses. And more BV holiday destinations; specifically something with a more European flavour (The Mediterranean! Scandinavia! The British seaside!).

What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favourite so far?

EP: University (for the extra life stage and all the opportunities it brings)

All awesome questions! His fate is murky. I am still in the research and development phase of his story. I have thought a lot about what his life would be like after the war and haven't fully decided what path I wish to take yet. Whatever happens it's likely it won't be all sunshine and roses. Here comes my nerd brain:

After the Treaty of Versailles, Germany had to surrender all military technology to the allies. This included airplanes, trains, ships, and weaponry. A lot of it was either scrapped, used as target practice, or integrated into allied armies for training purposes. Many Brigadeloks survive to this day and found second chances on logging railways after the war. Whatever happens to our lad, he is still going to go through a lot of hardship. All of his friends and family finally get to go home and live out their days in peace while he, most likely, would become a prisoner of war even after the war itself is long over with. Maybe his comrades find a way to save him and bring him back to Germany or take him somewhere else. Either way everyone he knew and loved will be separated from him for a long time, maybe even forever. I don't have the heart to put him through too much pain but I do love me some angst!

Schatzi will never meet Davenport in canon but I definitely want to make some little one off interactions between them for fun. They are very different in personality and build which could cause a lot of drama not to mention the whole enemies in war thing. As for canon Thomas characters! I am not sure! I sorta would like to keep it a separate story that only exists in the same "universe" but it's fun thinking about how the Skarloey engines in particular would react to him. He's so much bigger and different than them it would be like worlds colliding. I think Sir Handel in particular would absolutely despise him.

Hey all!

I know it's become a bit of a running joke for me to make a post saying I'm back, only to drop one fic and then disappear. It's kind of become my thing, whether I mean to or not. But! I just had a few things I wanted to talk about.

So university. The running theme of every non-fic post I've made here. This quarter has been fucking insane. Lots of ups, lots of downs, etc. So much more intense than the last one I was at. Just one more year until med school, lads.

But you know, in between classes I've had little bits of time to write. I can never quite make it to the computer ('cause I know the second I start typing, all hopes of actually studying go out the window), but it's all been kept in a little journal. Interspersed with notes on organic chemistry, but there nonetheless. So I'm excited to start digitalizing my thoughts over winter break, which'll be starting on Friday! Woohoo!

But in that same vein... a lot of the reason I don't post as much here is because I'm posting elsewhere, or writing about... well, something else. You know how it is -- lots of fandoms, lots of thoughts, but only enough brain space to hyperfixate on one thing at a time.

So, what is everyone's thoughts on me just adding some fandoms to my accepted writing list here? I know some people prefer the organization of one-fandom-only blogs (Hell, I used to, which is why I have so fucking many), but you know. Might be worth gauging interest, since I've seen folks on AO3/Quotev follow me through all of my fandom leaps.

Regardless, how is everyone doing? I miss you guys! :3c

Welcome Home Drawing Week Challenge - Day 4

Day Four - OC Interaction

I was debating which of my OCs to use for this one, and eventually decided to do a small interaction between an OC I’ve never shown here before- Magic Marlin- and Frank Frankly. Frank seems to have it in his head that Magic Marlin and the neighborhood magician, The Great Fanccino, are the same people. Surely, he must be mistaken in his assumptions!

(Spoiler: He’s not.)

Frank decides to confront Marlin about his suspicions, and thus this conversation happens:

This was really fun to draw, sometimes I forget how much fun Frank’s shapes are to draw at times. When I first saw him I expected him to be very difficult to draw but honestly he’s one of my favorites (even if I don’t draw him often…) I also enjoyed drawing Marlin, I really need to finalize his and his magician disguise’s designs so I can draw his full page like I did with Peter and Pepper.

Jeyne has been feeling better and settling in to her place in the parsonage, but the boys are still having a hard time adjusting. They are both family sims in the throes of puberty and it’s springtime. None of the sims that are their age have liked them that much, and Mr Collins is not the type of sim to hire woohoo workers to comfort them. 

The lads going completely nuts from their lack of kissing and dating, and Mr Collins advice is to wait until marriage and pray to the watcher (which is technically what sims do when they look at the camera and scream at us lol.) Hubert even slapped George, although thankfully it didn’t ruin their relationship too much.
