I visited the new @wrfl881 studios and @dancemarymusic showed me the new digs! It's nice👍🎵 This station and the eclectic community bound by a love of music is the reason why I chose to live in Lexington for so long. Working here was a dream and the role that WRFL plays in both my life, as well as the Lexington music scene as a whole, is critically important. I love this place so much. Country roads are taking this UK graduate back home as she embarks on a new journey as the manager of the West Virginia Youth Symphony (WVYS). Aryana Misaghi, School of Music alum, graduated in Spring 2018 with a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education with a flute focus and a minor in Biological Sciences.
Misaghi currently manage the West Virginia Youth Symphony (WVYS) in Charleston, WV. The WVYS was one of the most formative musical experiences Misaghi had while growing up, one that led her to be a part of the UK Symphony Orchestra for all four years of college. She says, “it's been such an honor to work for a group that I love and believe in.” Her work includes organizing rehearsals, booking concerts, fundraising, grant-writing, and promotions--everything except the music-making. “The students impress me at every performance,” she explains, “and their music makes all the hard work worth it.” Being a member of UKSO and on the Board of Directors at WRFL, prepared Misaghi for most of what the job has thrown at her. “I never thought I would end up being in an arts administrative position as a career,” she exclaims, however, her experience in college of participating in activities that she wanted to do like playing in orchestra, being on the radio, and tutoring other students in writing, primed her for her current position!
Had a great time being a guest on @wrfl881 last night for wrfl live. You can see the full video on my YouTube channel under The Bryant C. Project and since it was also streamed live by zoom I wanted to have a different environment so I also wanted to thank @sinful_lilly for having me at @jettlaneproductions for the event. #thebryantcproject #wrfl #wrfllive #radio #show #interview #performance #zoom #youtube #musician #music #songs #musician #musicartist #recordingartist #singer #songwriter #guitarist #collegeradio #lexingtonky #Richmondky #jettlanerecording #linkinbio #studio #originalmusic #soloshow #guitarplayer #singersongwriter thebryantcproject.net https://www.instagram.com/p/CQhZ-XODrqu/?utm_medium=tumblr
Sweet Queen of Sheba! Oh man, I craved delicious Ethiopian food so much over these past 4 years and just BARELY made it here in time to grab dinner; it was totally worth the hustle! We started off with a Kosta Wrap (spinach, onions, homemade Aybe cottage cheese) and then split a meat and veggie combo w/ Injera bread, Doro Wot, Alicha Sega Wot (beef cubes, onion, potatoes in turmeric sauce), Gomen Wot, and Atakilt. Absolutely delicious; 13 out of 10! 👨🏻🍳👍 Afterwards, we stopped by to see my WRFL/Gunma brethren, the good brother Travis and exchanged some kokuto shochu for bourbon and beers (most excellent🥃) The next day, we randomly ran into my dad at Meijer and I showed Seiko how I survived for so many years on frozen microwave burritos.
Maker’s Private Select Smore Castle advances to the round of 32. Woodinville had a fighters chance when the Dentyne classic was center stage. But then Woodinville kept giving me more and more and more scotch notes. Hitting me over the head with them. The quasi-scotch worked for Town Branch. I am a bit removed from that matchup, but Town Branch knocked it out of the park on the way to some sort of upset. But this Woodinville seemed like muted and cheap scotch. Once it went scotch, it didn’t go back. I couldn’t pull out the delectable Dentyne. Or the soft honey notes. And those worked. Woodinville’s nose was simple. When Woodinville was Dentyne and soft honey, it had a chance. Was delicious. Then that dirty smoky scotch bullshit started Creepin on a Come Up. What. The. Muted apple crawlspace. Fuck? Gratuitous use of periods should tell you that Woodinville went sideways. As Type O Negative put me into a sitar and chanting trance about soft spots ...
Woodinville couldn’t become interconnected with the trance of “Can’t Lose You.” And if that song doesn’t put you in a trance, then feel free to blast Luke Bryan or DMX; and leave me the fuck alone as I journey on a bourbon drenched musical trip. We’ll get along just fine after I come down from this Smore Castle and “Can’t Lose You” magic carpet ride. I would not fail a drug test, but I am on another level right now. There is sweet, smoky complexity to this Smore Castle. No chocolate. Although as I type that, my brain starts to taste chocolate covered marshmallows. 🤣 What a big brain on bourbon soaked bread I have. At times.
Let me address this elephant in the room. I wasn’t going to allow any double oaked or barrel finished or wine cask or rum cask or any other type of double, triple, casked type of bottles into this bracket. Then my brother RB entered an Andy Griffith submitted double oaked. Then I remembered I already had one of my MMPS in the bracket of 64. Then Tater Savior Fred Minnick had an NCAA esque Mocha bracket. And I got another bottle of MMPS at LB with 3 or 4 mocha staves. And... sum bitch. The finished, the oaked, started creeping on some come ups.
Well, guess what bourbon? You’re going to have to man. The. Fuck. Up. There it is. Again. Gratuitous over-reliance on periods and capitalization for emphasis. Blame Chris. Fucking. Kael. AKA Sprinkle. Of Hecatomb and Hymen and Noisome Corpse. Now of Five Finger Death Punch. One of my lame claims to fame. But he made it. Earned it. Success and millions and a level of fettering to social media. Which I flee from, like jock itch. For I loathe social media.
Not sure where I was going with that. But I think I was trying to blame Chris Kael’s overuse. Of. The. Period. 🤣 Last time I hung with Chris, I got lit on shitty Ancient Age that I bought at Big Daddy liquors and then drove him to WRFL for an interview with Matt Dacey on Matt’s Metal Mortuary at WRFL.
But I kept drifting away from Smore Castle. That’s OK. My dog licks my head. My wife calls me and wants to break down playground dynamics. Let me head back to the Smore Castle. Now there is a monstrous amount of marshmallows. Like I am smothered in a glaze of smoky marshmallow skin. My life beckons. As it should. A hint of lime comes through. There are scotch notes, but this MMPS Smore Castle transcends limitations of scotch and bourbon. Key lime? Lemon tart? MArshmallow skin? Yes? As “Can’t Lose You” transcends genres. What genre is that song. Metal? What subgenre? Psychedelic? How? Where did this song come from? Where did Smore Castle come from? As that demogorgon artificial grape starts to approach my brain. Time to eat some chicken wings. And come up with a middle name for our dog. Smore Castle is shooting up the draft boards (NFL draft approaches) like Jamin Davis. Delicious. I have to watch out for the snake in the grass of barrel finished bourbons. Let’s enjoy this ride.
Hi everyone! My name is Grace Medley and I use she/they pronouns interchangeably. I’m a WRD major and am planning on minoring in Spanish. Currently, I'm not involved in any clubs- but I’m looking to change that! I’m attending the WRFL disorientation on September 18th and I’m really excited to get involved! I also want to join the GSA and just generally get involved in campus life. I’m from Louisville, KY and I have a shih-tzu named Teddy who is the cutest thing in the world! I really love my neighborhood in Louisville- especially because there’s a really strong community there. I really value community and connections, so moving away has been especially hard. However much I miss it, though, I’m super excited to be exploring this new city. I’ve been trying to find some cool hidden places or just any place with a unique aspect to it. So far I’ve been to CD Central (which isn’t hidden- but I love the whole vibe of the place). I bought some used CDs I’ve never listened to and had a great time. So- if you have any suggestions for cool places don’t be shy to let me know!
I’m really excited for what this class will bring. I hope to gain some more knowledge about rhetoric and how it’s used/perceived because in high school we didn't really cover that. I’m a little nervous about the group aspect of this class since I usually work alone- but I think it will be a good thing for me to experience. I can't wait to get to know you all better and to see what we learn this semester!
THANK YOU FOR SENDING THESE I'VE BEEN BUSY THIS WEEKEND AAAA
12: what was the first artist you remember being pretentious about? I felt like hot shit because I figured out about Vampire Weekend from a magazine I read on a plane once (and their accompanying in-flight radio, which had "Horchata" from Contra on it). I was 13 and thought indie rock was cool as shit (still do, honestly).
22: what artist did you try to like because you thought they were “cool”, but just couldn’t get into? I don't think I've ever gone as far as to actually pretend I like them legitimately, but. I still haven't gotten around to trying Radiohead out properly (aside from playing some stuff from A Moon Shaped Pool on WRFL back when it initially came out, and the one everyone knows that the band themselves can’t stand) and I'm not sure I ever will, to some degree because I genuinely wonder whether or not I'll hear in them what everyone else seems to.
