Wangxian's sex life sometimes gets a bad rap in this fandom, especially their cnc kink.
I implore you, before judging others on their sexual preferences, between two consulting adults, just stop and think about it first.
I actually think it's a beautiful kink for them to have. It's one that allows them to be fully free with themselves and each other. It is one that helps them access those feelings bottled up inside of them. The one who keeps an outwardly calm persona and follows the rules (when they are in line with his ideals), the famously restrained. And the one who craved stability, who wanted to belong to someone, who just wanted to be wanted.
That's why this kink is perfect for Wangxian!
Can you imagine how full WWX's heart must be knowing just how much LWJ truly wanted him. Wanted him so badly he would just take him (w/wo permission depending on the time we're referring to - the blindfolded kiss or their first time in the bushes!). To know that the man he loves is completely and utterly beguiled by him and wants to ravish him so badly he doesn't even care they are just steps away from a public path!
WWX loves to tease LWJ and reap the consequences, he always has. Even more so now those consequences lead to sexual gratification for both of them. It is a perfectly healthy and normal (one third of the population have a cnc kink) way to enjoy your sex life.
Wangxian and their version of the cnc kink work hand in hand together.

Dr. Lace, as a practicing Lan Wangjiologist, why do you think Lan Wangji waited until the end of the novel to tell Wei Wuxian about A-Yuan surviving? Like, in universe, because while I think the real answer is that the twist plays out better at the end of the story, it’s more fun to guess why Lan Wangji kept quiet.
"Dr. Lace" and "Lan Wangjiologist" made me laugh for like two days straight. well done anon. well done sjdhfkjsdhlfkdsjf
but you've actually caught me on something that i don't know if i have a true answer!! i mean, as you said there is the obvious reason of it just working a lot better from a storytelling point of view.
us readers don't really learn about a-yuan existence until wwx mentions it the first time as they're hanging out in yiling before climbing the burial mounds, then there's a flashback where we met the wen remnants, they die, wwx is killed, and immediately after we return, we get the blood poll scene, which also immediately reveals to us that the little boy we met is actually now the BIG boy we've fallen in love with a long time ago! we care about lan sizhui long before we even know that he was relevant in wangxian's life before that. "what happened to a-yuan" isn't a looming question that follows us or the characters throughout the story, because a-yuan only comes up quite late in the plot. mxtx wasn't going for a shocking plot twist with that reveal, but merely using him as another piece in the story's theme. we love lan sizhui before we even know he's a-yuan, and knowing that he's now only alive BECAUSE wwx sacrificied all he did to save the wen remnants, even if he "failed" shows us the human side of how worth it was.
but of course that doesn't come without its foreshadowing. note that i don't subscribe to the "wangxian are a-yuan's parents" or "lan sizhui secretly calls lwj 'baba/fuqin'" headcanon (although u can always argue that 一日为师,终身为父 but that's for another day lmao), i find their relationship has a lot more nuance and honestly more depth than that of a nuclear family. we see how he and lan wangji seem to be much closer compared to other juniors (ie hgj personally teaches him the qin language, gives him books that other lan disciples seem to not have access to, etc) and while that is curious, it's not out of place for lwj to have a particular student he wants to train more closely. lan sizhui clearly deserves it! however, once it is revealed just how much sizhui means to lwj, as well as how he gave him both his new "birth" name and his courtesy name, as well as why he'd want sizhui to be under his protection and teaching, it all clicks!
but again, it's simply not a major focus within the plot.
ok cool lace, that still doesn't answer why lan wangji doesn't bring that up in-universe. and you're right! i'm quite fond of tangents
but seriously, i do think that's part of it as well. just like how the question of "what happened to a-yuan" doesn't follow us around the story, that's the same for our main characters. wei wuxian has long been convinced that a-yuan died alongside the wen remnants, so he doesn't ask because he's allergic to reminiscing anything about the past. for lan wangji, lan sizhui is safe (and still amnesiac), and wei ying is back to life, there are a thousand other things they need to focus on before bringing all of that up. and lan wangji is nothing if not focused on fixing the most important tasks at hand, matters of the past can be talked about later unless relevant (it's no wonder that all of lwj's backstroy is revealed to us by the narrator or a different character, after all).
but most of all, i think lan wangji didn't bring it up because he simply did not know how to tackle the subject of the first siege, wwx's death, or the wen remnants with him. it's understandably a very sensitive subject, and lan wangji did not wish to overstep his boundaries by bringing it up when wwx wasn't ready to. again, he's a man of priorities, and he wouldn't risk breaking the scab off the wound unless it was necessary, or wwx did it first.
from those lens, it's no question why he only seemed to consider revealing a-yuan's identity after the second siege, not only because wwx has finally had closure on the death of the wens, but because lan sizhui himself is starting to piece things together, though it is also not something that should be forced. however, after the second siege, things really begin speeding up again, and between wwx watching the wens fade away and having a fight with jiang cheng, he's is clearly both physically and emotionally drained all the way until they get freaky in the bathtub, where things get even WORSE, and then guanyin temple happens which just... yeah. there was enough telenovela drama for one night.
so, once all of that is finally over, and lwj sees sizhui analyze chenqing with a clear sense of reminiscing, lwj finally settles it that he will reveal it. they're not in a hurry, wwx is finally doing okay, closure has been achieved in multiple things, and there are no other priorities at hand.
except that! he doesn't even need to. because sizhui catches up does it for him. and isn't that even more fitting?
but really, since i received this ask i have been thinking to myself "at what other time would lan wangji have revealed a-yuan's identity? and why?" and i just... keep hitting a wall. because revealing extremely charged emotional subjects to a beloved person who has never brought it up to you, about another person who doesn't even know or remember it, it's simply not lan wangji's character. wei ying is alive and safe, a-yuan is alive and safe, tearful revelations can come later, but right now lan wangji needs to ensure that they'll continue that way.

Modern fem wangxian au where lwj grew up in a family that discourages makeup save for like a lil bit of mascara bc they think lots of makeup is a sign of like low class or smthn dumb and wwx is a makeup artist who loves a dramatic full face who practices on lwj
Wwx is a beauty vlogger who asks her best bud lwj to model (bc lwj is GORGEOUS and also wwx wants an excuse to put her hands on lwj's face) and lwj is WHIPPED so she agrees but finds that she actually really likes the dramatic looks wwx does on her??
but Lan Qiren disapproves so they have to make their sessions secret. And lwj comes to find an appreciation for makeup as an art form and when some dudes come after wwx for being "fake" or smthn after she goes makeup free for a day lwj just EVISCERATES them and wwx is so in love
And when the two finally kiss for the first time they smear lipstick all over each other and they mess up each other's hair and they both look like a DISASTER but they both think the other has never looked as beautiful as they do in that moment

WWX reincarnates as LWJ's son
tw grooming! inc*st, underage, sexual assault, dark!LWJ
In a universe where Wei Wuxian is never resurrected, Nie Huaisang still finds a way to expose Jin Guangyao's crimes. And with Lan Xichen in indefinite seclusion, the Lan elders force Lan Wangji to marry. There’s whispers. Fear of a sect without heirs, fear of a sect leader decaying in his own bed.
So Lan Wangji marries a pretty disciple, only five years his junior, named Lan Meifang. On their wedding night he can’t get it up. He lies about having erectile dysfunction, but maybe in a way that’s what being a cutsleeve to the extent of being sexually repulsed by women is. They figure it out together, eventually. He needs to be totally blindfolded and at maximum arousal prior to her getting anywhere near him. It’s weird. So weird. Lan Meifang definitely knows other couples are not having sex like this.
But it’s fine. This is a practical relationship and they both know it. All business. They just need two or three kids out of it and it can all be over. Then, the only thing worse than Wei Wuxian coming back to life happens. He reincarnates as Lan Wangji’s first son.
In isolation none of the things that led Lan Wangji to believe his son is Wei Wuxian are particularly striking. A beauty mark on his chin. Piercing grey eyes that neither of his parents have. (Lan Meifang says her grandfather used to have them.) Laughter like a tinkling bell. Wild black hair that cannot be tamed. The way Lan Wangji’s uncle looks at him when they name the boy “Lan Ying” is so repulsed it’s almost funny. Regular, ordinary coincidences. Not to worry over.
By ten months the boy is on his feet, waddling around yelling “Baba! Baba!”. He shows Lan Wangji everything. A ladybug he found, a leaf he thinks is interesting, a stray chive in his congee that he refuses to eat. It’s impossibly endearing and Lan Wangji becomes pliable in his little boy’s hands. Anything Lan Ying wants, Lan Ying gets. He’s the only person Lan Wangji spares a glance or smiles at. Lan Sizhui silently watches himself get sidelined in favour of the real son. Lan Wangji’s blood.
As Lan Ying grows it becomes increasingly obvious that the closeness between them will not abate. The child really is the splitting image of Wei Wuxian, down to the way his eyelashes curl and his hair grows lighter at the edges. Although the boy is eight now Lan Wangji still lets him sit on his lap, spoon-feeds him, waits on him hand and foot, baths him. Lan Ying is a chatterbox, and cannot adhere to the prescribed Lan silence. Another coincidence. Very normal and regular. The elders worry he’ll never grow a backbone and it enrages Lan Wangji so much he blindfolds and straps himself to the bed, telling Lan Meifang not to stop until he’s cum successfully.
It bears fruit, another boy. Lan Wangji never grows close to him. However, the plan works and the elders stop pestering Lan Wangji about Lan Ying so much. With age Lan Ying grows rowdier, more and more like Wei Ying. At the first discussion conference they take him to Jiang Wanyin freezes and has to take a double take at the new heir to the Lan sect. Briefly, Lan Wangji and Jiang Wanyin make eye contact. With horror, they both realise the other definitely knows.
Of course, Lan Ying doesn’t suspect a thing and continues causing trouble, to the point that he has to be sent to his room for misbehaving and embarrassing the sect. He never attends another because the staring from the Jiang sect leader makes the entire Lan delegation uncomfortable. Lan Meifang and Lan Wangji give Lan Ying the courtesy name “Fenghong” meaning great phoenix. It is an incredibly thinly veiled reference to Lan Wangji’s belief in Wei Ying’s reincarnation.
When he receives his blade at twelve the sword he’s given is crafted of fine silver, and engraved beautifully. Lan Wangji stops pretending to care for anyone but his child. With age the child grows… prettier. Soft, curvy features. Gorgeous eyes, pink lips and a wicked smirk. Lan Wangji never pushes him to train more than he needs to, read more than he wants. The boy spends most of his time reading pornography, which Lan Wangji happily supplies upon his son’s request. Lan Ying requests help with homework, help with folding his clothes, help with making his bed, and where anyone else tries to provide it, or scold him for being incompetent, Lan Wangji is there to guard the task of keeping his child well-kept and safe. No rules apply to Lan Ying. There’s a joke amongst the teenagers that the Lan sect would allow murder if the victim was killed by Lan Ying.
As he enters his teenage years his father’s coddling gives way to bullying from his peers. Lan Ying is teased relentlessly for being unable to perform basic tasks, for being too pretty, “like a girl,” and for clinging to his father. His cultivation is lower than expected, especially with his parentage in mind and Lan Qiren advises his nephew to enrol his son in some kind of private training with a stronger disciple - like Lan Sizhui. Lan Wangji reassures his uncle that he’ll resolve the issue himself but Lan Ying cries so bitterly at having to train that he makes little progress. The physical inferiority of the Lan Sect’s first heir is made apparent in duels, and Lan Ying is moved down a class to avoid further humiliation. It also allows the bullies more authority over him, causing their altercations to become physical.
When Lan Ying shows up to the Jingshi with a black eye Lan Wangji instantly abuses his position as head disciplinarian to enact revenge for his son. He prescribes one hundred lashes for each boy named, ten in total, and a year of copying the Lan Sect rules. The parents protest on the basis of unfair bias, and Lan Xichen comes out of seclusion in an attempt to desperately remedy the situation. Lan Wangji is quietly stripped of his title, and their punishments are lessened - 30 lashes each, 50 for the one who punched him. A standard month of copying the rules.
When he passes the boys in the Cloud Recesses Hanguang-Jun seethes with barely concealed rage. Lan Xichen briefly considers addressing his brother’s possessive attitude towards his son but… feels it’s none of his business. He comments on it to Lan Meifang, but she shrugs it off as him being overly concerned. Fatherhood changes people. Lan Xichen wouldn’t know… After the incident, Lan Wangji convinces his son, makes him promise, never to keep anything from him ever again. Lan Ying can and must tell his father everything.
So he does. Bullying, studying, his thoughts and feelings, crushes. Lan Wangji does a double take when Lan Ying brings up a girl he thinks is cute. He has her carefully removed from the cultivation pathway and transferred to a medical one.
The same year Lan Wangji leaves the Cloud Recesses to attend an annual discussion conference. While there, a servant informs him that Lan Ying is unwell. Rather than enquire further about the severity of the illness Lan Wangji rushes back. He snatches his son from his mother’s quarters, where the boy is resting, and takes him back to the Jingshi. Laying him on his bed, Lan Wangji takes his temperature, brings him cold towels, feeds him, brings him medicine from the physicians, circulates spiritual energy through his body, and sleeps on the floor next to him until the boy is well again. He refuses to return to the conference, leave Lan Ying’s bedside, or let anyone see Lan Ying.
Perhaps Lan Wangji is becoming delusional but Lan Ying’s spiritual energy mixing with his feels so right, it feels… like Wei Ying. Lan Wangji tries to swallow the thought. If this is Wei Ying’s reincarnation… he deserves as cushy and pampered a life as possible. As long as Lan Wangji doesn’t reveal his suspicions he can give Wei Ying the life he should have had the first time. (Privately, the physicians inform Lan Xichen it was nothing but a mild cold. Lan Wangji’s constant pampering is likely contributing to the severity of his fever, as Lan Ying’s immune system is poorly adjusted and kept weak).
The next year, Lan Ying somehow gets sick again, this time when Lan Wangji is at attendance for a meeting about the Lotus Pier rebuilding effort. Despite being almost fully finished, the Sect is requesting material aid for some of the more symbolic or sentimental parts that were left unbuilt until stability was achieved. Wangji is supposed to survey the necessity of these areas, and whether or not the Lan Sect can provide sufficient materials.
Lan Qiren orders servants not to inform any of the delegation in Lotus Pier of Lan Ying’s condition. Of course, he still gets well. It starts to look like the incident will blow over. A lie of omission, yes, but it’s very important that Lan Wangji doesn’t sabotage relations between the Lan and Jiang sect by prioritising his son’s mild case of illness.
But of course… Lan Ying tells him. He promised his baba, and he won’t break it! Unable to take revenge for this lie, Lan Wangji silently rages. There’s a noticeable shift in how he regards the other members of his Sect. When the next conference comes around there is a great conundrum as the Lan Sect heir reappears in the public eye.
The hair on everyone’s necks stands on end as a young boy, fifteen at most, skips into the hall in front of Lan Wangji, whistling and twirling his ponytail. Rumours begin to spread that a soul summoning ritual must have been performed. Something is not right - there’s no way the Lan heir and Wei Wuxian are coincidentally that similar! Lan Qiren almost spits blood at this new, frightening potential for diplomatic incident. He looks more and more like Wei Ying and it’s driving everyone, most of all his own father, entirely mad!
Lan Ying’s first night hunt without Lan Wangji is where it all goes wrong. Despite lagging behind his peers in his studies, at an entry level at sixteen, Lan Wangji insists the boy can manage. Lan Sizhui is leading. He has grown into an outstanding member of the sect, well on his way to either ascension or starting his own sect. Knowing Hanguang-Jun’s… close relationship with his son, Lan Sizhui pays careful attention to ensure his safety, but Lan Ying is simply too far behind for the task.
He gets slashed across the thighs by a monster, and has to be carried back to the Cloud Recesses on a stretcher made of Lan Sizhui’s own robes, moaning and groaning desperately, crying out for his baba. As expected, Hanguang-Jun is absolutely hysterical. No one, not even Lan Ying’s bullies, have ever seen him look so terrifying. He stays by Lan Ying’s bedside looking positively manic as the physicians make light work of the wounds. After his wounds are tended to, Lan Wangji once again whisks Lan Ying away to the Jingshi and nurses him back to health.
When the injury heals, Lan Ying stays. A second bed is installed, in the same room as Lan Wangji’s. Life goes on as normal. Except it doesn’t. It becomes impossible to suppress Lan Wangji’s notice of the similarities between Lan and Wei Ying. Having him in his room becomes hard to bear, but Lan Wangji refuses to let anyone else have him. On the nights Lan Ying crawls into his father’s bed with him Lan Wangji can only close his eyes with a grimace and try to still his stuttering heart.
Lan Wangji becomes increasingly reclusive. Lan Ying frequently calls in sick to class. He doesn’t attend more often than he does. Instead, he spends his days lounging around the Jingshi, waiting for his dad to come home so he can talk to him about what he’s reading, painting, or thinking about in the hours he’s not with him. They hone their boardgames skills, and practise calligraphy together, Lan Ying perched in Lan Wangji’s lap as the elder’s hand guides his through strokes. Lan Wangji teaches the boy to brew the perfect teas, cook congee, clean different stubborn materials, plant flowers. He takes him to the field of bunnies often and Lan Ying likes that most of all.
Lan Ying grows paler and prettier. More spindly with his lack of exercise. On days where he doesn’t leave the Jingshi he wears only his inner robe, scampering around scantily. It makes Lan Wangji wonder… growing into a young man, especially one so sickly, can’t be easy. Lan Wangji remembers it being impossibly difficult, and he was one of the strongest of his generation. While Lan Ying would definitely win in a looks competition, he had little stimulation outside of their walks in the evening, or visits to the library or rabbits. Once or twice a week, class time, but Lan Wangji knew he hated that.
They eat dinner with the rest of the Sect, but all other meals are served directly to the Jingshi. Lan Meifang visits the Jingshi every few weeks, but she’s busy bringing up her other two children (who she slept with for the third one Lan Wangji may never know. He doesn’t really care). The whispers of townspeople insist that they’re far more confident than the sickly first master Lan.
Lan Wangji frets over everything to do with his son. His eating, sleeping, drinking, feelings. As he nears seventeen Lan Wangji frets for Lan Ying’s sexual health, as he remembers this being around the time his own sexuality developed. It starts innocently enough. They already tell each other everything, so Lan Wangji asks him simple questions about his interests. Boys or girls. Has he kissed anyone? Read porn? Touched himself. Lan Ying answers truthfully. Lan Wangji asks him if he’s touched himself in this room and gets so worked up by the embarrassed “yes” that not even the cold pond can calm his hard on.
He jerks off on the bank before curling up in the water in shame. A brief scream under the water relieves him of any guilt. Something’s wrong with him, he feels like he’s going crazy. Why is his own son so… seductive?! His son… who is the reincarnation of the only man you’ve ever loved, his brain supplies helpfully. Lan Wangji groans into his hands.
For his seventeenth birthday Lan Wangji takes Lan Ying to the market in Caiyi, where he selects a wooden dizi and a new set of grey robes for purchase. They eat rich food, and Lan Ying drinks wine. Late at night, Lan Wangji inconspicuously walks through the wards of the Cloud Recesses, carrying a (deniably) intoxicated Lan Ying back to the Jingshi. Lan Wangji slips three porn novels into the pile of new purchases. Dutifully, Lan Ying practises the dizi every day and Lan Wangji thrills at the nightly sessions where Lan Ying shows off what he’s learnt. It suits him so well.
Lan Wangji also notices the spring books moving around shelf. Rearranged. Unmoved if you don’t look close enough, but it’s clear Lan Ying has been making… use of them. It makes Lan Wangji glad. He secretly jerks off in the bath tub. Life continues at this weird, jagged pace.
Lan Xichen asks his brother if it is perhaps time for Lan Ying to rejoin his classmates in the dorms, but Lan Wangji insists the boy is far too unwell, and traumatised by his experience to reintegrate into cultivation like normal boys. After a brief, lying-by-omission style conversation with Lan Ying, the mantle of Sect Leader is finally given to his younger brother. The boy is ten by now, and a strong cultivator for his age. Ripe for the position, and malleable. Now Lan Wangji… truly has his Lan Ying all to himself.
A few weeks later he finds Lan Ying masturbating. It’s an accident. He’s relieved of his duties around lunchtime as he finds himself without his advanced class, comprised of three students who are taking their guqin cultivation further, due to a small flu going around. Giddy, he almost skips back to the Jingshi. Any excuse to spend more time with his son is a plus. Not thinking to knock (they never do), he enters the room and locks eyes with Lan Ying, sitting on Lan Wangji’s bed with his hand round his dick and Lan Wangji’s pillow hugged to his chest. They freeze.
One… two… three seconds. Lan Ying frantically springs into action, roughly pulling his pants back up and apologising profusely, but Lan Wangji raises a hand to stop him. He shuts the door. Locks it. Turns and approaches the bed. The mattress dips as he sits next to Lan Ying. It’s silent for a few moments more.
“Why were you holding my pillow?” he asks, finally. Lan Ying turns even redder, almost purple.
“It’s… easier with your uh. Smell,” he says, covering his face with his hands. “I’m sorry Ba…”
Lan Wangji shushes him gently, before patting his lap.
“Sit,” Lan Wangji instructs. Lan Ying hesitates, but obeys. “Good boy.”
Gently, Lan Wangji peels the boys pants down. Lan Ying inhales sharply. He’s only half hard now, but Lan Wangji remedies this with a few pumps - gently down, twisting on the upstroke. Lan Ying whimpers pitifully, melting into the touch.
“Here,” Lan Wangji says, tapping Lan Ying’s chin until the boy’s nose is settled in the crook of his father’s neck. “For the smell.”
“Baba,” Lan Ying whines, writhing.
Lan Wangji continues stroking his dick and Lan Ying’s breathing becomes increasingly erratic. He presses his face into his dad’s collarbones and neck and begins messily suckling at it. Drool spills from the sides of his mouth and his leg muscles twitch, backside pressing against Lan Wangji's hardening dick. Lan Ying cums with a soft cry, muffled in Lan Wangji’s shoulder. Silently, Lan Wangji cleans the boy up, putting his clothes in a separate bucket to be washed by Lan Wangji’s hands. No one can know Lan Ying like he does.
After that it becomes horribly easier. Lan Ying doesn’t attend class. Lan Wangji says he’s sick. He makes Lan Ying promise not to tell anyone. Everything they do together is so Lan Ying can learn how to please his future partners. It’s all in the interest of education. Every night he touches him. When Lan Ying offers to reciprocate he’s tragically bad at it. He cries when Lan Wangji suggests he finish himself off, so the boy ends up kneeling on the floor with his mouth open while Lan Wangji jerks off into it.
It escalates. Of course it does. They make rapid progress. Lan Wangji teaches Lan Ying how to use his mouth, his thighs, his feet, his hands, his ass. He gets to share everything, all these special things with his beautiful boy… they still eat meals with the rest of the Sect. It’s weird for everyone else but the two of them are only too content with each other’s presence. Lan Ying clings to his father like some kind of concubine. The righteous Hanguang-Jun hand-feeds him, and Lan Ying nuzzles his neck contentedly. He even stays in the room while his father makes brief conversation during the tea break between senior sect members, after the disciples have finished.
There’s a new joke going around. About Lan er-gongzi’s second wife. It’s vulgar, and Lan Qiren makes efforts to silence the whispers but Lan Wangji can’t find it in himself to get defensive. That would mean denying what he has with A-Ying… and he realises, with a strange mix of giddiness and horror, that he doesn’t want to hide it, deny that he loves his Lan Ying, his Wei Ying, more than anyone. Not even blood can keep them from each other.

I don't understand why so many of mdzs fans hate jiang cheng .They are looking at wwx & lwj pov side and why can't they look at jc story from his side as well.
Madam yu was a bad mother but a great leader. She was blinded by hatred. And fengmian can't be called a good person too. He mistreated his own son because he looked like his mother . Jc was a child , all jc wanted loving parents . But madam yu doesn't know how to show love or affection & fengmian knew how to do it, but he didn't even care about it. The only good thing fengmian did was adopt wy & the only good thing madam yu did was care about jc somehow .I will never forget this, which is that fengmian picked jc less than 5 times (according to him) but each time was enough to keep him happy for months .He didn't like jc because he was like madam yu and he never saw how hard jc worked to please him and get his attention. Madam yu used this as a weapon . They were passing jc between the two of them like he was just a toy, and they didn't know how much damage it had done to the boy since he was a child. Can you imagine how depressed he was since childhood? Jyl was the only one who gave him a little relief, but don't forget that after wy came to lotus peir , he got the full attention of not only his father but also his sister. He was so alone but still loved & cared wy. How is it when not only parents but others compare him with wy and always say that you can't do this and that?  He was a little boy then , Because of his family & others his insecurity about himself and the feeling that no one likes him increased.
He was not 16-17 years old when the collapsed clan was handed over to him.  The entire clan has been destroyed, there are about 50-100 people.  Even his parents were killed and he could not find his brother. Also, he lost his golden core when he went to protect wy. Don't forget that time wen chao captured him and tortured him, beating him with discipline whips after removing his golden core. And he had to see his people killed in front of his eyes and had to see his whole clan burn to ashes . And that time how many people tried to take his place because he was young and had no one to help him?   No one can imagine his mental state at that time. But, he endured all of them and rebuilt the clan from scratch.
After wy came back, others blamed jc for all of wy's mistakes. Jc is angry because wy didn't choose him. At a time when his clan is still being built, jc can't choose both his brother and the members of the wen clan. That's why he told his brother to come to him, because he will protect his brother no matter what anyone says. Yiling belonged to yunmenng and who protected them during those three years? And he wasn't there  at JZ's death, so he believed the rumours. And think about it, he is a brother as well as a clan leader.  If he makes a small mistake, it will go outside his clan. And if he doesn't go with wy's seige, what will happen to his rebuilding clan? His sister died in front of his eyes and went to protect wy. Not only that ,in front of his eyes wy divested  his qi.(I am talking about the mdzs plot because the plot of cql/tu has been completely changed)  He loved his brother & sister  more than his parents. Because Yanali and Xian were like his parents since childhood.
Who can bear that pain within three years he lost his entire family. In the end, he was left with only that one-month-old child without parents. He didn't kill his brother, but everyone said he did. How does he feel the pain when others  says that?  God, he is  a human too.If he hates wy so much, why did he keep  chengquing a secret from everyone for 16 years? And when wy came back he knew it was his brother. If he hates wy so much, he could have told everyone that he is back? And others don't know if it's true or false about jc torturing dark cultivatiors , it's all rumours. Also, even after wy came back, jc was angry because he chose lz instead of jc.
He is sad and angry not because of anything, Because no matter how much he trusts wy, wy doesn't trust him. That's why he says that if wy hid the fact that he gave the golden core to jc as a secret, he will also keep the loss of his golden core as a secret. He knows that even if his brother comes back, he doesn't want him and that's why he let him go.  Jc's sacrifices for everyone, his pains, his everything are hidden from everyone by his outer character.
If we take the story from the beginning to the end, is he not the one who has been alone all the time without anything and bearing all the pain alone? All he wanted was a loving family.
It's so sad that everyone misunderstands him without seeing his story from his side 💔.
Jiang cheng is a person who hide his soft and weak heart by acting strict .

Ok so,
Fem!Wangxian, where they live like canon women in the novel, and WWX has some privileges like being a rarely First Discipule, and goes to CR but study in the female side, and of course there is LWJ who is a a not good example for other women, because she doesn't smile, she enjoy silence, but in a woman who must look for a husband is not a good attitude.
So the both of them got similar experiencies and make best friends really fast, both are better that a lot of men, LQR left LWJ to LXC because he didn't know what to do with a girl. And LXC who spot his meimei.
Both LXC and JFM promises to not negotiate married, one wanna be free and fall in love like her parents and doesn't want to marry JC who is the only option, and LWJ makes LXC promises because she doesn't really like man, they are gross and stupid and if someone try to touch her again she's gonna shop his hand's off.
Canon happens, WC try to rape WWX but he can't. Then Phoenix hunt, LWJ kisses WWX but WWX discover her. Then JZxun say his uncle wanna claim WWX for the Jins, it doesn't matter it is like JGS or JZX concubine or better JZXun wife. Meanwhile JGY try to talk with Xichen about marry LWJ with himself, so when LWJ go with the idea (with a broken heart) maybe Xichen will marry WWX and protect her, Xichen proposes to marry LWJ with JGY, she feel really betrayed and leaves.
So, that nigth, LWJ and WWX talk and accepts to leaves their sect with the only man that can protect and both can accepts them
NHS accepts, because he is no stupid, and when two of the most beautiful women of his world proposes to marry him there is just ome thing to do. Accepts
NHS is asexual for me, maybe a little vouyer, so they have sex, just for babies and he look sometimes, because their two wives are beautiful, and he sees their marrieage in secret.
So, the 3 of them go to a Nie, Lan, Jin and Jiang doctor who can said the truth about the two ladies virginity and run, saves the Wen and have a lot of sex, because the best is if the two are pregnant. (They go to doctor because the Jins spread the rumour about WWX and Wen chao, it doesn't matter if she didn't wanted)
Nie Mingjue run after his brother because JC and LX want to kill him. They do this in secret, so nobody really knows what is happening, just the 3 of them leaves the conference.
They found them in a Inn naked, so NHS and WWX were hiding behind LWJ, because for me she is always a really tall and strong woman (just think in Tiane Endler physics, I mean her arms)
And then married. WWX was pregnant from A Yuan, Nie heir and later another babies, because she loves be pregnant and be take cared for LWJ and NHS who is a great husband and love a lot his wives in a platonic way. LWY was pregnant just one time, after their marriage, she doesn't really like the sex with NHS even if his husband and wife make all comfortable for her. So LJY born, and yes, he was raised for WWX for the real pain of LQR who just wants LSZ like heir, but Xichen refuses to married and spot his sister's son, all of them, because all of WWX children are from LWJ too.
Meanwhile, NMJ protects all of his little gremlins, and love them. Obviously he don't die.
P.D.: Sorry for my english

Working hard (and hard at work)
Or the one in which LWJ tries to work and WWX totally doesn't try to distract him.
It is around midday that Wei Wuxian walks into the library, carrying a tray of light snacks and tea. Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen have been hard at work since early that morning, preparing reports and documents for the upcoming discussion conference. It is the first Lan Xichen is attending after his three year seclusion, so of course he needs some help getting back into the hang of things - and who's better to help than his own brother?
(Anyone, probably, since he's been traveling with Wei Wuxian for the better part of these three years himself, largely away from the Cloud Recesses, but Lan Wangji suspects his brother just wanted to spend some time together and found this as pretext).
The library is, expectedly, very quiet, the only sound welcoming Wei Wuxian being the swishing of papers - but when he walks up to the two brothers, seated side-by-side at the large reading table, they both smile at him in greeting - one, loving, soft and sincere, the other empty, placid and distant.
"How are you two holding up?" he asks, pouring two cups of perfumed tea for them to take. "I imagine none of that stuff's too fun to work on."
"It is... tiring." Lan Xichen responds, "Thank you for the treat, by the way. Very thoughtful of you."
Wei Wuxian smiles in place of an answer, and feels Lan Wangji reach across the table and briefly caress the top of his hand. Lan Xichen's eyes catch onto that, and he picks one of the sweets off the tray as he stands up. "I'm going to have some fresh air while the two of you... catch up." His eyes narrow in warning towards his brother. "I'll only be gone five minutes."
The "don't let me catch you fucking on top of this table again" goes unsaid but both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji hear it anyway. He makes himself sparse quickly, and the door barely slides closed before Wei Wuxian's taken his rightful place in his husband's arms, kissing him fervently.
Not that Lan Wangji minds, he really doesn't, who would - but he knows that, at this rate, they won't be doing just kissing for much longer. Wei Wuxian seems to be needier now than usual, and he's wearing his lightest set of summer robes so that Lan Wangji can feel all of him, everywhere - and he's very, very excited, grinding his hips against his husband's and moaning into his mouth.
But Lan Xichen will be back soon and Lan Wangji does not want his brother to make shady comments about catching him and Wei Wuxian in the act - so with all of his strength, he pushes the horny demons in both his heads away, and breaks his lips away from Wei Wuxian's.
He whines at the loss, chasing Lan Wangji's lips out, but when his eyes open enough to see his expression, a disappointed pout appears on his kiss bruised lips. "C'mon, why'd you stop?"
"You know why. My brother will return soon."
"So? We can just be quick." Wei Wuxian argues, leaning down to bite a bruise into the side of Lan Wangji's neck, "I won't be long, I promise..." His tone drops down low, dangerously low, "...after all, I've been teasing myself all morning thinking of you. You left so early, I didn't even get to tell you what I've dreamt of..."
Lan Wangji has to make himself imagine his uncle dying so doesn't pounce his husband right then and there. "Wei Ying!"
He doesn't seem to care, loosening the lapels of Lan Wangji's robe. "Don't act like I'm the degenerate one here, either. I can feel how hard you are already."
"Wei Ying, we really can't!"
Lan Wangji tries so hard to control himself that he feels like he's going to die of horny disease. The cure is right there, in his arms, about to unfasten his robes, so maybe they really could be quick and-
But Wei Wuxian suddenly decides he doesn't want to anymore, abruptly standing up and away from his husband. "You know what, maybe you're right. It's better if we don't." And he fixes his clothes to make himself look presentable, and does a rather poor job at pretending he doesn't delight in Lan Wangji's dejected expression. "Good luck with your work, Hanguang-Jun, I'll go finish mine~"
Lan Xichen walks at exactly the perfect moment for Lan Wangji not to be able to chase his husband outside. His eyes fall onto his brother's neck, and he sighs deeply, with disappointment.
It is about four hours later that Lan Wangji decides to take a break from work himself and get some sunlight. He's been cooped up in the library for much of the day, and he needs some time to unwind - so, he goes to his favorite place in the Cloud Recesses, the bunny field. He loves playing with the little creatures and perhaps he's been a bit too generous feeding them lately, but they bring him so much joy that it doesn't matter. There is plenty of ridiculous things the sect spends money on, bunnies are at least cute.
It was much to Lan Wangji's surprise, though, to find that somebody else has decided to keep the fluffy animals company. And who could it be other than Wei Ying? He seems to have fallen asleep sunbathing, an assortment of rabbits around him.
Problem is - he's not very decently dressed. In fact, he's barely dressed at all, and Lan Wangji feels himself getting jealous at the thought that people might walk by and see hus husband like this, only covered by a very loosely fitted robe that only stays on him enough to cover his...modesty. Otherwise, Wei Ying is entirely shirtless, skin gleaming with the lightest sheen of sweat, knees bent and close together to reveal his thighs.
It is nearly afternoon, so everybody in the Cloud Recesses is busy, so it's unlikely anybody would walk by. Which means, if Lan Wangji were to let the horny demons win, nobody would know.
So, he lays down next to Wei Ying, and places a hand on his thigh, pressing onto the few bitemarks he left there last night. Wei Ying moans himself out of sleep, but only enough to turn towards his assailant and close his eyes again.
"You'd just let anyone touch you?"
"Nobody but you would dare." Comes the response, a bit too sultry for somebody who's supposedly just been awoken from sleep, "Have you finally remembered I exist?"
Lan Wangji rolls his eyes and leans to kiss his husband, but his gesture isn't well received when Wei Ying pushes him away and sits up. "I don't think you finished your work."
"I took a break." Lan Wangji replies, sliding the robe off Wei Ying's shoulder to leave kisses on the tanning skin.
"It's not nice to leave your brother to struggle all by himself," he tries, the sympathy in his voice only a bit theatrical, "I can take care of myself just fine."
Lan Wangji bites him at that, and Wei Ying falls somewhere between a laugh and a moan. "I'm angry with you for pushing me away earlier, so we're not doing anything now." And he stands up again, "Go now, how long of a break do you even need?"
"But what about-"
Wei Wuxian makes it a bit of a show tightening his robe back on and tying his hair with one of Lan Wangji's forehead ribbons. "Yeah, I know, everyday is everyday, but that's for later."
"Later when?!"
He turns to walk away, swinging his hips just a little. "I don't know, when I'm done being angry with you."
---
Lan Wangji has decided to be turbo-productive for the rest of the day, and that allowed him time to drop by a local shop for Emperor's Smile. If there was a way for him to reenter his husband's good graces, that would be it. Of course, Lan Wangji doesn't think Wei Ying is actually mad at him, but he's done being denied what he craves most, so he's going to apologize and hopefully get it.
Wei Ying waits for him in the bath - well, reality is that Wei Ying has been bathing already when Lan Wangji walked in, but this is his mind and he can imagine whatever he wants in it. So, Wei Ying is there, relaxed, in the steaming water, and he doesn't even crack his eyes open to see Lan Wangji as he says "I'm still mad at you."
"I have Emperor's Smile."
His eyes snap open. "Ok, I'm not mad at you anymore, give me that!"
So Lan Wangji pours him a cup, and chastely waits by the side of the bathtub as Wei Ying drinks it. He asks for another and Lan Wangji pours it for him, not making much of an effort to hide his expectant gaze.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I want to bathe too."
"Right, I'll finish up-"
"With you."
Wei Ying sighs and gets up out of the water, wrapping a towel around himself. At this point Lan Wangji is about to cry, so Wei Ying bends down to leave a kiss on his forehead. "The bed. We've broken enough bathtubs for a week."
Lan Wangji nearly knocks over his feet running.

all the time in the world (& i’ll spend it loving you)
The first time Lan Wangji had come to him, it had been a rainy day, just like this one. It had been pouring that morning when Lan Wangji had appeared out of the storm, drunk and drenched, grabbing him by the collar with shaking hands.
“How could you?” he had hissed. “How could you?”
Lan Wangji had lowered his head, letting out a sob. If there had been tears on his face that night, they had been lost in the rain.
“You killed him.”
  ---
Twitter refugee and I’m SO excited to be here and meet new people! Erm erm I don’t have much to contribute, but I’ve written this whole bunch of CANON-VERSE jiang cheng ficlets. Read it under the cut!
[The first chapter was written for the prompt: JC and LWJ have a standing once a month hook up that started during the years WWX was dead. At first, it was hate fucking, but it turned into feelings that they both ignored. After WWX returns, JC assumes the standing monthly hookup has stopped. Except cue one month after the temple events, LWJ shows up with WWX in tow.]
Sometime back, Chengxian antis and JC antis were flooding the tags on Twitter with hate which made everyone sad, so I opened prompts for Chengxian, Zhancheng, and Zhanchengxian ficlets, and wrote people a bunch of gift ficlets I’ve now dubbed... the #jiayou ficlets! Here’s one of them! For people who prefer to read things on the archive, it’s posted on Ao3 here.
---
He wakes as he always does; startled, sun in his eyes, with his heart pounding in his chest and his fingers clenched tight in the sheets.
Still as stone, he lies frozen in place as his heart slows.
Outside, he can hear muffled shouting, layered over the patter of rain, as the younger disciples play amidst the puddles. He can hear the slow scuff of slippers as the servants begin their day, heading to the river to draw water. He can even hear the distant sounds of horse wagons out in the city.
Yunmeng.
After a long moment, he eases himself slowly upright, muscles stiff from a whole night spent rigid. Unbidden, his eyes sweep over to the empty surface of his desk.
No letters have come for him overnight.
His heart trembles strangely in his chest.
He stands, and pushes the window forcefully open. A rainy morning; the first day of the sixth month. The rain seems to herald the coming monsoon, the seasonal wetness that he knows will last for the next two months. He stands there for a long moment, face turned up against the cool, gentle mists of the morning rain. Then, he closes his eyes.
No one is coming for him tonight.
His heart clenches painfully. Opening his eyes, he pulls the windows forcefully shut, and turns around to get ready for the day.
He doesn’t know what he’d been expecting.
---
The first time Lan Wangji had come to him, it had been a rainy day, just like this one.
The sex had hurt, that first time, scratching at each other, their wordless snarls hiding the hint of a sob as they sought to mask the pain, the grief, the tears.
“Did you want this with him?” Jiang Cheng had taunted, staring up at Lan Wangji. In the darkness, his golden eyes had gleamed like a cat’s in the light of the moon.
Jiang Cheng remembers how those eyes had flashed as Lan Wangji backhanded him. He remembers the dark bruise it had left in the morning. He remembers waking to those inscrutable golden eyes, and the gentle caress of gentle knuckles over his swollen cheek.
“Do you regret last night?” Jiang Cheng had asked in a murmur.
Lan Wangji’s brows had drawn together, eyes tracing the contours of that dark blemish.
“Yes,” he’d said.
---
On the first day of the next month, he had still returned.
---
It’s impossible to tell when he’d started loving Wei Wuxian. It feels like millennia that he’s spent tracing the memory of a familiar face, the laughter they’d shared, and the insults they’d traded. Sometimes, it feels like he’d always loved him.
When Wei Wuxian had been alive, Jiang Cheng always dreamt of their arguments, waking up sour and resentful. But after he had died, Jiang Cheng had dreamt only sweet dreams. He would dream of laughing together under lotus pads, of rosy sunsets over the river, stealing chickens and play-wrestling in the rain. He would dream of the ruby glint of sunset off the droplets in Wei Wuxian’s hair, drenched in rainwater and lakewater, the day he’d hauled Jiang Cheng up onto the dock and leaned over him, tipsy and laughing.
I want you, he’d whispered. I’ve never wanted a woman the way I want you.
In those dreams, Jiang Cheng had always smiled.
I want you too, he would whisper.
Those siren dreams always left him hollow in the mornings, waking in sunlight, with an emptiness in his heart where someone had once lived. He’s lived that memory a thousand ways in sleep, in every way except the way it had played in waking.
Don’t let A-Niang hear you talking like that, he had snapped. I’m not a cut-sleeve.
One day, about a year into those unsettling dreams, he’d woken with a name on his lips.
I loved him, he’d finally realized. I still do.
The realization had threatened to upend everything.
---
On the first day of the next month, Lan Wangji had appeared to him for the first time, drunk, and with fresh scars on his back. On the first day of every following month, he had returned like clockwork.
Gentle hands, gentle heart — the first night had been the only time he had ever hit Jiang Cheng.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji had whispered, that second night, and Jiang Cheng’s eyes had flown open.
“I’m not him,” he’d said, and laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
They’d had each other thrice that night, Lan Wangji desperate and insatiable in a way he had never expected. His eyelids had trembled, capillaries delicate under the glass-like skin, as he gasped and whispered. When open, his eyes always seemed so far away, unseeing.
Others had always said that one picks up the mannerisms of those they spend the most time with. Jiang Cheng wonders what parts of Wei Wuxian Lan Wangji had seen in him.
In the aftermath, trembling and limping slightly, Lan Wangji had stood and pulled on his pants. Nestled half-asleep in the sheets, Jiang Cheng had opened his eyes.
“Stay the night,” he had murmured. “I don’t want to wake alone.”
Lan Wangji’s eyes had glinted, cat-like, in the night as he turned to look at Jiang Cheng. Such an unnatural color. Jiang Cheng had always found him a little uncanny because of it.
“Mn,” Lan Wangji had agreed — and slid back under the sheets.
---
The rain splatters against his bare skin as his body flows through the motions of the Yunmeng Jiang sword form. It has long been a discipline of his. Practicing the sword form is the first thing he does every morning, and the last thing he does at night before bed.
Still, today he finds himself a little less present than he would prefer, consumed by memories. He does not hear the approach of the disciple until the disciple is at the entrance of the courtyard.
“Sect Lead— ack!”
Jiang Cheng turns sharply away, hiding the scars on his chest, his greatest shame.
“Sorry, Sect Leader!” the boy squeaks. “A letter has come for you. I’ll put it on your desk.”
As the patter of small feet peter off into the distance, Jiang Cheng takes a deep breath, and swings his outer robe up and over his shoulders. Sheathing his sword, he hurries into his study. There’s a sealed letter on the table. He snatches it up.
Even before he opens it, however, his heart sinks. The seal is familiar, but not the one he’d been expecting. True enough, when he opens the letter, it is addressed from Sect Leader Yao, requesting help with a bridge that had collapsed in a flash flood.
He tosses the letter aside angrily.
Then, after a moment, he sits down, and tries to read it. There’s a stack of letters on his desk to be answered, and he generally likes to get that done before lunch. Today, however, the words slip like water through his mind, his eyes tracing over the brushstrokes again and again without processing.
Finally, he slams his hand down on the table, and stands.
It isn’t often that he succumbs to drink, but he thinks that today is a special occasion. Striding out into the courtyard, he draws his sword, and takes off into the sky.
---
He had not expected to fall in love with Lan Wangji.
Like flying through a drizzle, he’d realized too late that he’d flown into a storm. Somewhere along the way, without him ever noticing, the rainfall had intensified to the point that he could barely see, barely hear, but so preoccupied with getting to the places he had to be, he hadn’t noticed the change of weather.
“Lan— Wangji—“
Lan Wangji had kissed him on the lips, grinding their hips more firmly together. His breath had been so hot against Jiang Cheng’s ear that night, jagged with exertion.
“Jiang—” he had murmured, and then stiffened, grasping Jiang Cheng’s hips bruisingly hard as his hips stuttered.
Wetness bloomed between their bellies.
“Jiang Wanyin.”
Afterwards, they’d laid on their sides, facing each other in the darkness. He remembers vividly how Lan Wangji had looked then, a hand under his ear like a divine statue, eyes closed, expression as serene and austere as a cloudless sky. His other hand had been warm on Jiang Cheng’s wrist, his thumb drawing up and down absently as Jiang Cheng watched him, drinking him in for long minutes. Finally, sensing the eyes on him, he had opened his eyes questioningly.
Jiang Cheng remembers every second of the moments that followed, the calm in those lion’s eyes as he’d looked patiently back at Jiang Cheng. In that moment, Jiang Cheng had been so certain.
“Lan Wangji, I—" he’d begun.
That thumb on his wrist had continued to stroke, up and down, slow and soothing. Lan Wangji had just watched him, waiting, not saying a word.
“I—"
The words had caught in his throat. He’d been so certain in that moment that Lan Wangji returned his feelings, but still, those words had refused to be spoken.
I want you too.
“I’ll tell you next time,” he had finally whispered instead. “Next month.”
Lan Wangji had blinked, slow and inexorable.
“We have time,” he had said simply.
A week later, the familiar sounds of a dizi had rung out over the mountainside.
---
“Sect Leader,” the innkeeper murmurs, concerned. “Sect Leader, are you alright?”
“Another,” he slurs, reaching out to push his cup forward, but knocking it over instead. “Two more jars.”
After a moment, the innkeeper sighs, pulling the stool next to him out, and taking a seat instead.
“Sect Leader,” she sighs, laying her hand on his nape. “You are very drunk. I haven’t seen you this drunk since you were a boy.”
Since he was a boy, sneaking out to drink here, another's arm hooked companionably over his shoulder, and a too-loud, too-excited, too-drunk voice hollering in his ear.i
With the alcohol in his system, that’s enough to make him turn his face into the table.
“Oh, Sect Leader…” the innkeeper sighs, stroking his back as his breath hitches. “What happened to you?”
He hiccups, sniffing as his nose begins to run, breathing slow and open-mouthed against the table. Tears drip slowly from the tip of his nose, darkening the wood beneath him.
“I heard that Young Master Wei has returned,” the innkeeper guesses. “There were some cultivators here talking about it, but he hasn’t come back to say hello. Where is he?”
Jiang Cheng hiccups miserably.
“I yelled at him,” he mutters, “then he eloped.”
“Eloped?” the innkeeper repeats, bewildered, and then pauses. “I always thought… Young Master Wei always seemed very enamored with Sect Leader when he was a boy. Who—“
She trails off awkwardly.
“He eloped,” Jiang Cheng continues, “with the man I love.”
He sniffs once, hiccups, and then begins to sob. The hand on his back picks up, stroking a little more frantically now.
“Oh, Sect Leader,” the innkeeper sighs. “My poor child. My sweet boy.”
“I thought he loved me too,” Jiang Cheng chokes out, still face-down on the table.
“Young Master Wei?” the innkeeper asks gingerly. “Or err— what’s his name?”
“Both,” Jiang Cheng manages, the word tripping into a series of wracking sobs. The innkeeper coos sympathetically, continuing to stroke his back.
“Hi Auntie Li,” a hushed voice comes after a moment. “We’ll get him back to Lotus Pier. Don’t you worry.”
“Ah!” the innkeeper gasps, clearly recognizing the newcomers. “Oh, of course! Please!”
She stands, and makes herself scarce. Jiang Cheng looks up blearily at the dragging sound of wooden stools against the floor, just in time to see two tall figures seating themselves at the table opposite him. Through squinted eyes, Jiang Cheng can see that the taller one has a white band over his forehead, but is dressed in the raggedy garb of a traveling cultivator, hair pulled unfussily up into a high ponytail.
“You even look like him,” Jiang Cheng mutters miserably.
The other— looks vaguely familiar.
“And you— kinda look like that Mo Xuanyu guy,” Jiang Cheng continues, even more miserably, before letting his head fall back down to the table with a loud thunk. “Ow.”
The shorter of the two makes a hissing noise, lifting Jiang Cheng’s head gently back off the table, and brushing a hand gingerly over his forehead, which is already beginning to redden.
“Wow, Jiang Cheng,” he says, “you’re wasted.”
The taller sighs, standing and sliding his arms gently underneath Jiang Cheng’s body.
“Let’s get him home,” the man whispers.
The world falls away as he’s pulled up onto a strong, broad back.
---
When he wakes in the morning, sun in his eyes, the brightness sends a sharp stab of agony through his skull. He groans, turning sharply away from the window, only to collide with a scarred chest.
There’s a familiar brand burned into the skin.
He recoils, shooting backward, only to collide, less pleasantly, with a very bony chin.
“Ow! Fuck! Jiang Cheng!”
Clasping the back of his head, he hisses in pain, feeling another oncoming bruise. His forehead feels bruised too, and he vaguely remembers how that happened. Gods, he’d been so drunk.
“Obscenity is prohibited,” Lan Wangji murmurs, but there’s no bite in it. He guides Jiang Cheng forward, pressing him into his chest so he can check on Wei Wuxian’s chin. “No bruising.”
“No bruising?” Wei Wuxian warbles melodramatically. “No permanent disfigurement? I’m still pretty?”
“You are.”
Jiang Cheng turns over, and smashes his lips against Wei Wuxian’s.
Wei Wuxian lets out a muffled moan, and then tumbles them over till he’s perched over Jiang Cheng’s body. Jiang Cheng grasps the back of his robes, panting, taken abruptly back to their younger years. Lan Wangji had never tumbled Jiang Cheng around like this, always so controlled and careful.
“I’ve wanted you for so long,” Wei Wuxian murmurs, diving down to mouth along the side of his neck, pushing his collar open to get at his clavicle.
“I—“ Jiang Cheng begins, and closes his eyes tight, a tear squeezing out and running down into his hair. “I want you too.”
Wei Wuxian gasps, turning his face into Jiang Cheng’s shoulder.
“What if I wanted to be inside you?” he murmurs.
“Yes.”
“In your mouth?”
“Yes.”
“In your ass?”
“Yes.”
“In your life, until we’re both old and grey?”
Jiang Cheng’s voice chokes in his throat, so he just nods. Wei Wuxian kisses him fiercely on the lips again, once, twice, and again, before drawing back to look up at his husband.
“I can’t believe you got to have him before I did,” he whines. “I’ve wanted him since I was a kid, you know.”
“You can have him now, if he wants.”
Jiang Cheng gasps, hiding his face in Wei Wuxian’s shoulder. Too late, he realizes that he had spread his legs slightly with the motion. Wei Wuxian catches him by the knee before he can close them.
“Nuh uh,” he teases. “No takesies-backsies! I need to have you in all the ways Lan Zhan had you while I was gone. It’s just not fair!”
“That’s—“ Jiang Cheng begins, breath hitching as Wei Wuxian nuzzles into his neck, “going to take awhile.”
A hand covers his on Wei Wuxian’s back, tangling their fingers sweetly together. Jiang Cheng looks up in surprise to see Lan Wangji sitting up against the headboard, watching him patiently with those lion's eyes of his.
There’s a gentility in his eyes, in the upward curve of his lips, and in that moment Jiang Cheng knows— he knows.
“We have time,” Lan Wangji murmurs tenderly.
He leans down, kissing Jiang Cheng gently on the lips.
“We have all the time in the world.”

A (probably rambling) Lan Qiren Appreciation Post
Ok, let me start by saying I'm fully aware that he isn't a "perfect" person. He is a human and comes with human flaws, however, I often find that he gets reduced to nothing but rules and anger, which in my opinion isn't fair. Many seem to forget all the things he has gone through and accomplished, seeing only a strict man obsessed with rules and filled with anger, a hindrance for his nephew and his husband. It's true that he is strict and does like the rules, just as he often appears angry too, but that's not all he is.
(Chapters the "facts" come from are ch. 64, 68, 79, 111 and 117.)
Anyway, let's start from the beginning. We all know Lan Qiren is the younger brother of Qingheng-jun (QHJ), the previous Lan sect leader. It's fair to assume that QHJ was trained and moulded to become a sect leader from childhood, becoming a renowned cultivator with an impressive reputation from an early age, so I bet everyone assumed he'd be a great sect leader, one who would fulfil his duty well. Then, at twenty, he suddenly announces his marriage and goes into seclusion, pretty much throwing all the responsibilities of a sect leader on his younger brother, Lan Qiren, overnight. At this time, LQR is at the oldest nineteen (though I hc him as 18), but since we don't know the actual age gap between QHJ and LQR, we can't know for sure how old he is. However, he is a teen that suddenly finds himself being a sect leader in everything but name. Not only that, he pretty much lost his brother too, since QHJ went into seclusion and unless he visited him there (if it was even allowed), he wouldn't see him.
Like this isn't enough, he becomes an uncle twice within a few years (here too, we don't know the exact age gap between LXC and LWJ, as well as how long after the marriage LXC was born). Although the babies are raised by others at first, they are handed over to LQR "once old enough to be taught and raised", so LQR was their de facto parental figure. And suddenly LQR has a sect to run and two sect heirs to raise and he himself is most likely still under 25. He also wasn't trained for this the same way QHJ was, but the Gusu Lan Sect still flourishes. Yes, it was most likely already doing well before him, but he continued that and also ended up becoming a renowned teacher. On top of that he raised two boys into becoming two of the cultivation world's most renowned members, and let's be honest, both LXC and LWJ are good people. If LQR was such a horrible parental figure, then I doubt both of them would've turned out as well as they do. I'm not saying he's doing everything perfectly (no parents or parental figures ever do), but he did well.
Yes, he was strict with them and the reason was how their mother's crime had caused QHJ to throw away his life (as well as abandoning his duty) and LQR feared his nephews might do the same thing unless he was strict with them. In other words, he didn't want them to do something impulsive that would then ruin their chance of happiness (and maybe because it might also lead them to lose the ability to be with their family, like for QHJ). It might not be the best way to show care, but for a Lan who saw his accomplished brother throw away everything for a woman that didn't return his love, it makes sense. He also wouldn't be the only uncle who shows affection through irritation and scolding, would he? (Yes, Jiang Wanyin, I'm looking at you.)
Another thing that's good to keep in mind is that we often get to see LQR from WWX's point of view, unless someone is speaking about LQR, and WWX is chaos, so obviously anything strict will appear stricter. I don't say that's necessarily the truth, but it might be good to keep in mind.
Let's continue to a less than happy part, LWJ hiding WWX. Firstly, it was LXC who fetched LQR and the elders out of worry, but LQR too was worried, albeit showing it as frustration. I don't think corporal punishment is okay, however in this world, it is and LWJ did severely injure 33 elders of his clan, in the view of that, the punishment does make sense. It also makes sense that LQR is the one sentencing the punishment, since it's only him or LXC who can do it and I believe that LQR doesn't want LXC to have to punish his own brother. I do not see this as LQR not caring about his nephew, as I know many do. I fully believe that whipping LWJ did emotionally hurt LQR, but rules are rules.
Time for WWX's return. As we all know, LQR falls into a coma after trying to play Evocation for NMJ's arm and LXC later states to WWX after they return from the Cultivation Conference that LQR has just woken up. I read somewhere that it was about a month between Evocation and the Cultivation Conference, meaning that LQR has been in a coma for 3-4 weeks. No matter your golden core, that got to take a toll on you, which seems to be true as he is the one leading the Lans during the second siege of the Burial Mounds and he "stood before the crowd, looking considerably more aged. There were even streaks of white in his hair." Yes, this might be due to the stress of finding out that one of his nephews is with the returned WWX and the other nephew is gone (in the claws of JGY), plus the fact that Lan Juniors have been kidnapped. However, if this were the case, he would've aged a lot during the Sunshot Campaign and the First Siege of the Burial Mounds. I firmly believe it's the resentful energy that put him into a coma that took its toll on him. Anyway, no matter why, here he is, maybe a week or so after waking up after a nearly month long coma, leading a group of Lan cultivators. And no, it's not just to fetch LWJ, because he shows care for those under his command:
"Lan Qiren hadn’t wanted to go in, at first. He would rather have remained outside and fought until the bitter end. However, he was not waging this battle alone—there were many Lan and Jin Clan cultivators under his command, and they were not the main force in the fight. He did not want to treat the lives of those disciples with such disregard. If there was a thread of hope for survival, he was compelled to seize it."
As stated later, LQR is not a reckless man. He will do what the rules say is right and what will benefit the most people, even if he disagrees on a personal level (in this case wanting to fight, but knowing others might die if he does, since they would remain as well). He is also not so proud and petty that he won't let WWX speak his mind, instead he remains silent and listens. Many others would not.
He then again, despite probably not being in full strength since the coma and definitely not from all the fighting he's already done and without spiritual power, charges in with killing force to protect people when Su She breaks the barrier into the cave and the fierce corpses attack a again. Though this clearly comes with a prise as he afterwards coughs up a lot of blood and needs to mediate to regulate his breathing (and since LWJ is willing to give him spiritual energy, I have a feeling it's a tad worse than he wants to tell, but since his core is still sealed off, LWJ giving him qi would not help anyway, as LQR states himself).
Now to the aftermath of Guanyin Temple. He asks LXC what's the matter with him and LXC says he doesn't want to talk about it. LQR could press him, he probably could force him to tell him, but he doesn't. Yes he is angry, but the novel also declares that "both were now sources of worry" and it is after also saying that "neither of these two previously flawless pupils would heed him anymore", but I don't think it's just about smudged reputation or control that has him worried. I do believe he is genuinely worried that LXC and LWJ have thrown away their lives. The way he speaks and the way he's irritated with the situation shows signs of someone who acts with anger when stressed (similar to JC). I'm not saying this is the best way to react, but it is a part of our fight or flight reaction. We also can't forget that he did see his brother throw away his life due to an impulse decision and breaking the rules, a life that seems to have been generally happy before that.
And to end it all, after the family banquet:
"Wei Wuxian stroked his chin. If that was the case, they couldn’t blame Lan Qiren for punishing them like this. The man loathed wickedness in all forms. In fact, to be copying texts while doing handstands…they were getting off pretty light."
This is the juniors getting punished for going night-hunting with Wen Ning and if WWX thinks they're getting off pretty lightly, then they most likely are. To me this shows that although LQR adds rules and follows them, he does know there is a degree to them. He knows Wen Ning wouldn't hurt the juniors and that he isn't really evil or bad, but the rules state they shouldn't spend time with him, so he has to punish them, so he does so in a way that clearly is a punishment, but also not as harsh as it technically should be.
This became a long post. All in all, Lan Qiren is more than anger and strictness. He does not lack compassion, he does care about his nephews and I think people forget everything he has gone through and accomplished and that he deserves some more love and recognition (and not to only being the butt of the joke).

Hey, have you thought about the parallels between how Lan Wangji raised Lan Sizhui vs how Jiang Cheng raised Jin Ling? Like these were both kids that lost both their parents from a very young age (Sizhui losing all his family too) and they both grew up with just grew up with just male role models and “no mother to teach” them. Yet, while Sizhui is kind and open minded from the beginning and when finding out about his past all he does is try to raise a cenotaph. On the other hand, Jin Ling is full of rage, only thinking about acquiring glory in the beginning and so much repressed grief to the point he breaks down crying in public twice.
Hi anon,
I think the novel is very clear in using the two as foils, as well as driving home the fact, from the very introduction of Jin Ling into the story, that him being made an orphan due to unfortunate circumstances is not an excuse or a justification for his current behaviour.
At the same time, I think Jin Ling has to face more pressures as the future leader of the Jin clan. Straddling between the Jiang clan and the Jin clan, and being ostracised by other kids his age, means he did not benefit from the camaraderie of his peers to mediate for instance the heavy influence of JC's expectations and own neuroses on his development (which impacted his personality much more than JGY, although he was the one other significant figure in his life, aside from Xianzi). After all, LSZ did not only have LWJ in his life. It is clear that LSZ is not the most common Lan junior (something WWX points out when he meets him, wondering who could have raised him to be such an outstanding little seedling), but neither is Lan Jingyi. In a way, JL was not only constantly reminded of the void left by his parents, and told it was an injustice he had suffered because of an Evil Doer, but very little ever came to fill that void--and he was made to feel, anyway, that he was better than those people who existed beyond it. In opposition, while LSZ knew from childhood that he was an orphan, he was never led into resentment or victimisation, and had a community and close relationship.
We met LSZ as he led a group of juniors during a nighthunt trying to help the common people; we met JL on his own, antagonising and stomping over those lesser around him. And so it is meaningful that JL's new relationships in the course of the novel, including his friendship with LSZ, are important aspects of his growth and journey. LSZ does not meet JL in the middle, and thus does not undergo much change (and the one he undergoes has nothing to do with JL) but they become friends because JL realises he not only needs to change, but wants to because it is a happier, more peaceful and more fulfilling life that way.

a fic idea I will probably never write because the experience would be SO HARROWING I might as well bury myself first but that I have had since AT LEAST November 2022:
JYL is the only Yunmeng sibling to survive Nightless City. Badly injured, with a whole bunch of physical and mental scars, BUT! Congratulations! Both JC and WWX have died! JYL is the only Jiang who survives.
This means that Yanli has to return to the Yunmeng Jiang. (And also so I can do Yu politics. And also locate some Yu women for Yanli to be friends with. And also flesh out the Yu Matriarch and JYL's maternal aunts and cousins because yes.) 2b) Undecided about how and where Jin Ling is going in this AU because on one hand: I'm pretty sure if Yanli is returning to the Jiang for her three year mourn her husband period she'll want to take Jin Ling with her, but ALSO JGS is in a position of great power here so we have no idea what the situation is here and I haven't decided bc idk how much I want the vibes to just be RANCID and also bc I'm not writing this so idk!)
LWJ, post his 3 year seclusion due to the discipline whip related situation, partially wants leave the Lan/partially Xichen thinks maybe him having a change of pace would be good/partially the Lan Elders Are Meddling Again/partially because Grandma Yu is ALSO meddling, gets an arranged marriage to Yanli set for when Yanli's mourning period is over. LWJ is agreeing to this partly bc of his complicated feelings about WWX.
LWJ brings A-Yuan with him for mental support. Also because has trust issues.
At some point these two scrape together a platonic arranged marriage of necessity so hard it keeps the Jiang from sinking into the lake.
JUST IN TIME for NHS's ten year revenge plot to kick off and congratulations WWX is alive again!
The vibes are extremely fraught and awful because HELLO WEI WUXIAN WOULD YOU LIKE TO RUIN SHIJIE'S MARRIAGE A SECOND TIME AND ALSO CONGRATULATIONS JC IS DEAD STILL. He's fleeing for the hills.
Anyway this is also why I would never write this because 1) I have found a time skip option where LWJ is the most mentally well person in the room and 2) a canon timeline more terrible than what actually happened in canon. :DDDDDD

The Damage You Do: ch 23, pt 6
Hey look! I finally got to the yoga part of the arc named "I don't think this is a legit yoga pose" after like... tens of thousands of words...
Anyways, I decided to keep this as the same chapter, it'll just end up being super long. Also, the next week or two of updates will be shorter, because I have yoga regrets. So. Much. Research. And trying to make sure I'm describing movements in a sensical way ._.
It has been a time.
I did my best with describing the poses and using the proper terms, but I'm not promising I didn't mess anything up!
Enjoy!

“Have you done yoga before?” his dom asked, somehow managing to grab them both mats without releasing his hand.
“Huh?” wwx asked, watching that huge hand manhandle the mats. “What? Oh, uh… a bit? I had a friend who was into it when we were teens?” nhs had been ridiculously into it, actually. Still was, as far as wwx knew. He wouldn’t be surprised if the little pimp was able to do all the fancy moves… positions? He felt like there was an actual word for them? What was it…
lwj’s hand tightened around his for a moment, drawing wwx’s eyes to their clasped hands. His were tiny, compared to his dom's. Cute and petite. They would be almost girly, if he took care of them. He didn’t. Even just a few days after his mani-pedi they were already in need of some love. Broken nails and cuticles he’d ripped off. Calluses and a weird dry spot on the top of one. He supposed that taking care of his hands was technically part of his job now. lwj obviously wouldn’t want to be groped by someone who didn’t have baby soft skin everywhere! He had the money now, so maybe he should make himself an appointment?
“So, I guess I have a little experience? I might fall over, though, just so you know.” He smiled down at his dom as the man arranged their mats. “But, I mean, if you do this often, I’m gonna suck in comparison… What were you doing, before I arrived, I mean?”
“I have a standard morning routine.”
“Oh?” wwx had never had a routine. They gave him hives—not that Wen Qing believed him when he said so. More, he just got itchy inside? Which was totally hives adjacent, if you asked him. It was like all the monotony of the routine was rotting his insides. He had a bit of a schedule now, with his kid, but he was always throwing in whatever spontaneity he could. Even then, his schedule wasn’t his, it was A-Yuan’s, and that alone was enough to calm his twitchy brain down. To make it chill and enjoy the randomness of the things he could control.
lwj hummed, listing off his routine. Get up. Weigh himself. Get dressed. Drink some sort of fancy, healthy green juice. Go for a short run. Exercise his brain—that one wwx was interested in, and the first few minutes of their exercise comprised of lwj listing off the puzzles he played every morning as they relaxed into the mat and opened up their chest… or had the other man said back? Hips? wwx had already lost track.
“I eat breakfast after that. Sometimes, I plan my day, other times I go straight into exercise. The exercise varies day to day. Today, I was doing calisthenics.”
“So—” wwx broke off in a groan as his Cat-Cowed himself, back rounding and arching as he moved. Fucking hell did that feel good. He didn’t stretch nearly enough, man. “So, in other words, I’ve completely messed up your schedule, Mr. Lan?”
The man hummed as he pushed himself gracefully up, motioning for wwx to stay down. “It is fine,” he said as he leaned over his body, positioning his arms and legs, his hands and feet, into a slightly different configuration. “Flatten your hands. Balance your weight equally between your limbs.”
“Alright,” wwx squeaked as he tried to flatten out his palms, tried to ignore lwj’s weight hovering over him. They wanted to resist, his fingers slowly dragging upwards before he had to remind them to stay on the fucking mat.

A big thing is made of them trying to block the camera, but they eventually ignore it. I've seen some fans say that ggdd are talking about omegaverse here, but I'm not certain of that (the clip I saw had basically everything DD said bleeped out). Jc def looks confused tho. I'm pretty sure DD has gg's phone between takes.

The more I think about it, the more amusing I find the way Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan mirror each other.
For both of them, Wei Wuxian is a huge part of life even after he’s long gone, and they both wish to preserve the memory of him, but they go about it in completely different manner.
Lan Zhan came to terms with Wei Wuxian’s death. He moved on with his life albeit commemorating his lost lover. His feelings never grew weaker, and if not for Mo Xuanyu’s sacrifice, he would spend his whole life loving a dead man.
Jiang Cheng, on the other hand, didn’t accept it. He needed Wei Wuxian’s presence in his life so badly that even a parody of the presence was okay. As long as he ran his “witch hunts”, it was like his brother was somewhere out there and would show up any minute now. Once again, if not for Mo Xuanyu, he would spend his whole life trying to catch the wind.
And I find it very amusing that those two are the first people Wei Wuxian knows that he bumps into AND he wants to avoid one as much as the other AND they both recognize him asap AND they both try to capture him AND LWJ wins.
And then there are four volumes explaining how LWJ won precisely.
The thing is, LWJ is the one who learnt to accept WWX in and out. Although initially he “captured” WWX, he tolerated his performances, followed his wishes, listened to his opinions. LWJ, who always looked scandalized and opposed even when he wanted to help, now learnt to accept everything WWX has to offer and just go with it or even meet WWX in the middle. And pretty soon they became inseparable.
If JC wanted WWX back in his life (and I believe he did, that was JC’s whole deal imho), he should have learnt the same acceptance and apply it to every situation.

Note
Sorta angst prompt but mostly WWX slowly recovering from having everything put into perspective.
The summoning ritual performed by MXY is slightly skewed resulting in WWX returning with both his own memories AND his past incarnations memories, that of the original Heavenly Demon Luo Binghe(the one with 300± wives).
WWX has a lot of trouble reconciling the two lifetimes (and reigning in Binghes obsessive nature) but it puts things in perspective and removes WWXs obliviousness towards LWJs feelings.
With WWXs new memories (he can cook now?) he decides to go all out to woo LWJ who is also trying to woo WWX, the genuinely romantic PDA make everyone either coo or just very uncomfortable.
I had to get familiar with the original Luo Binghe again in order to write this. Be prepared. This ended up being.....long.
______________________
After kicking away the insect that had dared to hit his face, Luo--Wei-- ugh. Having the memories of two drastically different lifetimes sucked.
He looked down below his hands and saw an experimental array. Huh. It seems I have to grant this person's wishes. But.....he didn't even tell me them! Oh well. I bet it's just killing some people. The rage and despair in this room as well as that spoiled young master's earlier attitude speaks volumes.
He sat down and skimmed through his memories of his two lives. He remembered how he died as Luo Binghe. It was all due to his carelessness. He had fought that clone(?) or other self of his and was injured. When he returned, his thoughts were still occupied by that different Shen Qingqiu. He was.....so remarkably different than the Shen Qingqiu Luo Binghe had known and Luo Binghe wanted him. Because it wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that that Binghe got to have a sweet and caring Shizun. It wasn't--
He shook it off.
Then he remembered being pierced by a sword or two. He remembered the faces of the people that had stabbed him. Remnants of the disciples of CangQiong Mountain. He remembered killing them and dragging his body towards an isolated place.
He remembered the sensation of death and thinking that it was fine. He had lived a fulfilling life. He had had many wives and, (he believes) quite a few children. Life was peaceful.
But it was boring.
Perhaps, in a different life, something could be different.
And it was. But being Wei Wuxian sucked. He was surrounded by people, yet still so completely alone. And he was so weak to the Jiangs. Honestly, he got it. Wei Wuxian had grown up believing that everything he had was because of the Jiangs. And it's hard to shake those feelings off since they were beat into him since he was ten. Honestly, Luo Binghe was glad that he got his memories back in this life. Continuing to live life believing that he should be guilty for everything that occurred in his second life would only spell trouble. After all, in all instances that the world considered him to be wrong, it was them who had attacked first, always beating him back into a corner. Everyone was against except for--
Except for Lan Zhan.
He paused. Lan Zhan....seems to love me?? With all his experience as Luo Binghe, he knows a thing or two about love and how to spot a person's interest. And it seems.....that Lan Zhan held quite a bit of that feeling towards him. But why does that make him feel.....joy? Could it be that I like him? He does remind me of that other Shizun a little bit, but the resemblance isn't all that much.
And that Shizun......*sigh* It's hard to admit but he was never mine.
Exploring this feeling wouldn't be all that bad. I've always had a think for cold, stoic people. Perhaps this is the different 'something' I needed.
But never mind that. I should be focusing on how to safely live in this body. It's pretty weak--hm? Interesting. It seems like this body has a small amount of Heavenly Demonic blood in it. Perhaps a descendant of my offspring? I did have a lot of wives, so it wouldn't be all that surprising.....
Anyway, my memories are still all mixed up. I don't know whether I'm Wei Wuxian or Luo Binghe sometimes. *sighs* But, whatever. I think I'll continue calling myself Wei Wuxian. It feels odd to do so considering I've lived longer as Luo Binghe, but calling myself by a well-known demon's name is not good. Though that may change sooner or later if I awaken the demon blood in this body. I might get a demonic mark on my forehead and will be an outcast if I do. I should probably build up strength first. And then, I wouldn't need to have these worries.......
Having sorted everything out, Wei Wuxian got up and ate one of the apples on the floor. Such scarce food, the feeling of hunger......he had promised himself in his first life that that would never happen again and yet look at him now!
Luckily, this body is partly a demon. He should quickly build of his cultivation and strength before getting Xin Mo back.
Upon remembering what he did to Xin Mo, Wei Wuxian groaned. I can't believe I turned my sword into the Stygian Tiger Seal. I really should get it back soon.
Now then, time to get back to the Mo family.
......
Damn it. He cursed as he saw the Lan disciples there. Out of all sects, why the Lan? It seems like I'll have to scrap my plan to kill the Mo family. I think I've identified the four people who tormented this poor kid though. But--hm? This presence.....
.
.
.
Well, at least I didn't have to do anything. Wei Wuxian cast a disinterested look at the corpses of those who tormented Mo Xuanyu. They're dead now. You have your revenge.
The marks on his wrist are gone and he's free now. But......should he help them?
The Lan disciples were struggling against the ghost arm that had somehow snuck its way into the Mo residence and who was the culprit for murdering the Mos.
Wei Wuxian had been assisting them a little, using resentful energy to trip up the body the ghost arm was possessing and dragging the children away from harm. But should he risk exposure?
Wei Wuxian held his head. Fighting against his instinct to help others without care for his own health was tough.
Luckily, that decision was taken out of his hands by Lan Wangji's arrival.
Lan Wangji......he looked sad for some reason.
Hmm, should I stay or should I go? I have no reason to run away and Lan Wangji isn't an enemy. Wei Wuxian hemmed and hawed and finally decided not to run away.
The little Lan disciples introduced him to Lan Wangji who didn't seem very interested though his eyes sort of glinted at his appearance.
"Who is he?"
"Ah, he's the surviving member of the Mo family." Lan Sizhui replied.
"Hanguang-Jun, these people treated him so horribly!" The hyper Lan kid, Lan Jingyi exclaimed. "He didn't do anything wrong and acted normal and they had the gall to say that he was a lunatic!"
"Now, now. Calm down, Jingyi." Lan Sizhui said.
"Mo....Xuanyu, I see." And why did he look so disappointed? Was there something wrong with his appearance? ...Ah. He supposed there was. That poor Mo Xuanyu was mistreated and he stunk to high heavens. He probably didn't look all that great.
Lan Wangji handed some money to the children. "Get some rest and bathe. Him, too."
"Yes, Hanguang-Jun!"
"Come, Mo-gongzi. We'll get you cleaned up."
Wei Wuxian stared at Lan Wangji for a little bit. I suppose he doesn't recognize me. "Okay." He also wanted to get out of these clothes.
....
Having been cleaned, fed, and given new clothes, Wei Wuxian felt like a new man. Glancing at the black hanfu he'd been given, he had an idea. I hadn't erased the summoning ritual back at Mo Xuanyu's shed. Lan Wangji must be cleaning up right about now. He must have seen something considering the residual resentful energy lingering there. This body looks similar to how I did when I was Wei Wuxian. With a few adjustments, I should look the same.
Looking at his reflection in the water, he decided he looked similar enough and exited the room.
And there was Lan Wangji, frowning at the papers in his hand. Taking a quick glance at it, Wei Wuxian concluded that it must be the talismans and papers from the shed detailing the sacrifice ritual. As Wei Wuxian plopped down in the chair, he cleared his throat and Lan Wangji stiffened slightly, looking up from the papers, eyes widening.
His mouth parted as if to say something and closed again.
Has he started to suspect who I really am? "Ah, Hanguang-Jun, thanks for the meal, bath, and clothes! This is the most kindness I've gotten from someone in years!"
"Huh? But didn't you get plenty of kindness when you were at Jinlintai?"
Hmm, this could be the perfect chance to give Lan Wangji some hints. I don't want to give myself away too quickly. "Hmm, honestly speaking I don't remember a lot of my life. It just feels like a blur. Though it must've happened when that "family" of mine hit my head."
Lan Wangji frowned further. Those pretty eyes flicked back and forth between the papers and him.
Ah, he's starting to notice now, isn't he? But maybe I shouldn't make it that easy. I want him to notice me and observe my actions. I want him to find out who I am. His reaction when he does, I wonder what that will be like.
But Lan Wangji can be suspicious all he likes. What would be the decisive factor leading him to believe I'm Wei Wuxian? Hmm, I'll think about that later. First.....let's see what's left of the Mo family's riches, if the servants haven't looted it all. I should make sure this kid's mother is properly buried too. His journal detailed a lot of love for his mother. And a lot of hate from the Mo family towards them.
He parted from the Lan group as they had no reason to keep him and went through the Mo family treasury. Luckily, there was still quite a bit left. Grabbing a nearby qiankun pouch, he pocketed everything in there and left. He found the kid's mother's grave and made sure she was properly buried in the ancestral home. After paying his respects to both the mother and Mo Xuanyu, he left the Mo residence and took the stubborn donkey left at the shed with him.
It would make a decent enough steed with how fervently the donkey went after the apple he had attached to the end of a stick. He asked around and headed for Dafan mountain, where he had heard Lan Wangji went.
On the way, he absentmindedly called for Wen Ning. The poor kid who he had revived in his last life must still be alive. After all, humans are greedy creatures. If they could control a powerful corpse such as Wen Ning by their side, then they would jump at the opportunity. He didn't have much hope considering it had been over a decade, but on the second day of his travel, Wen Ning appeared wrapped in chains.
Wei Wuxian's mind lit up. Perhaps Wen Ning might be the key to having Lan Wangji discover me! Maybe I should have Wen Ning appear in a dramatic fashion so that Lan Zhan would try to capture me to question me.
......
Hmm.
Wei Wuxian stared as the goddess possessing a statue went after Jin Ling, his previous life's shijie's son. He honestly wasn't expecting such a situation when he first came to Dafan mountain and there was a lot more people around than he expected but maybe he could ask Wen Ning for help? After all, his body was still weak. His golden core and demonic blood weren't that strong.
He can't really do much with demonic cultivation unless he wanted to be hunted so Wen Ning was the best choice. But what song would be best?
He finally decided on a random trill using the bamboo flute he had roughly carved and winced at the terrible sound. I'll improve it later...... He ignored the children's groans at sound and kept playing until Wen Ning appeared and quickly smashed the statue to pieces.
But it seemed that people decided that Wen Ning was now a target and started attacking. *sigh*
He began playing a song he vaguely remembered hearing somewhere - a cave(?) - and Wen Ning calmed down and under his instructions began to retreat.
As Wei Wuxian ended the song, Lan Wangji ran up and grabbed his wrist. Wei Wuxian smiled secretly and dropped the flute. Though...
"Ow." He couldn't help but exclaim. Lan Wangji was...really strong!
Hearing his gasp of pain, Lan Wangji dropped his wrist and wanted to say something when they were rudely interrupted by Jiang Cheng, ugh.
I mean, damn it. I get you have some unresolved issues, but shouldn't you feel some sort of indifference after so many years? How come you're still angry?
Thankfully, this interference allowed for Lan Wangji the opportunity to "capture" Wei Wuxian and take him to Gusu.
.......
It seems that flirting doesn't work anymore.
Wei Wuxian could not tease Lan Wangji. The man's defenses, or rather, immunity were too high after all those years. A shame. It seems I'll have to be bolder.
So, that night, Wei Wuxian pinned Lan Wangji down and teased him.
"Are you sure this is what you want?"
The words sounded ominous somehow. "I've never been more serious."
Lan Wangji reached up and pressed on some acupoints. Wei Wuxian collapsed on top of his chest, shocked. What?
"Then stay like this for the whole night."
How am I supposed to sleep???
.............
Flirting doesn't work, seducing doesn't work, and being shameless backfires on me! Was I wrong that Lan Wangji didn't at least like me?
He seemed pretty attracted in my last life.....
.
.
.
Urgh, should I just be direct?
"Lan Zhan, you know it's me, right?" He asked as the walked in the direction that the ghost hand pointed them to.
"Mn."
"How did you figure it out? Was it Wen Ning?"
"Hm. No."
No?? Then how? Was it the song? But it couldn't be that, right? I don't quite remember how I know that song, considering how mixed up my memories are, but that's the only thing I could think of.
A sudden bark made him stiffen instinctively. He calmed himself down and tried to seem unaffected. His cynophobia of his life as Wei Wuxian still affected to him to a point though it wasn't too bad. Still, it was a point of contention as to his identity as Wei Wuxian.
He turned and saw a dog jump at him. Tamping down his terror, he calmly dodged to the side. The dog landed ungracefully and looked at him sadly. The dog has the symbol of the Jin clan, could it know Mo Xuanyu?
"Fairy!"
Fairy?
"Fairy, where are--ugh, it's you." Jin Ling stopped short.
Wei Wuxian turned and sighed. "Ugh, it's you." He mocked.
"You--! Don't mock me!!"
"Treat others the way you want to be treated." Wei Wuxian shrugged as Jin Ling gathered his dog by his side.
"Huh? And why should I do that?!"
"Eh, it was just a suggestion. Besides, did I do something to you? Why else would you react like that?"
"Do you not remember? What you did to Xiao Shushu was....ugh. I don't want to remember. I'm going now."
Hmm? Did Mo Xuanyu do something? I should probably know about it in case.....
"Are you okay?"
"Hm? Yeah."
"You...froze up when the dog came."
"Ah, that." Wei Wuxian waved him away. "When I was younger, I got attacked by dogs. I've grown from it--" I decidedly did not. "--and now only freeze up. It's a reflex now since no one ever deemed it necessary to teach me how to get over my fears." Oops, that's a little too much info.
".....I see. .....Call me."
"Hm?"
"If there's a dog, I will....chase it away. Even if you don't need it, I......I will be your shield."
Wei Wuxian stared at the ears that were gradually turning red. No one's ever......No one has ever said that to me. During both of my lives, I always had to protect myself. Even as Luo Binghe, I was always protecting someone. There has never been anyone that said they'd be my shield.
.....They hadn't dared to imply that I needed protecting.
"Wei Ying?"
"A-Ah. Thanks, Lan Zhan. You....." Wei Wuxian smiled, his heart feeling full. "You are the first person to ever tell me that."
"......” Lan Wangji’s lips parted. “No need for thanks."
......
After saving Jin Ling from the man-eating saber graves, Lan Wangji, after Wei Wuxian's insistence, headed off to find the person who had been observing them while Wei Wuxian started to dispel the curse on Jin Ling.
Smelling a light ozone scent, Wei Wuxian hurriedly dodged the oncoming attack.
Fuck, it's Jiang Cheng. Just my luck. Now Wei Wuxian could have escaped, but Jiang Cheng had interrupted him while he had been dispelling the curse, causing it to attach to Wei Wuxian and drain his energy.
So he was subsequently captured and questioned by Jiang Cheng. Having seen his nonchalant reaction to the dog, he faltered a bit, but nevertheless kept him tied up.
Wei Wuxian was attempted to say "Oooh, kinky!" just to piss Jiang Cheng off enough to release, but decided to hold his tongue. He didn't know this Jiang Cheng well enough to predict his reactions.
Jin Ling allowed him to escape though, so that was a plus.
.....
After reuniting with a worried Lan Wangji, questioning a suspicious Nie Huaisang and calming down the body parts of some poor guy, the two of them finally got some alone time.
And Wei Wuxian finally decided to bite the bullet. Having spent an extended amount of time with Lan Wangji, he was now sure that yes, he did indeed like Lan Wangji romantically. He was wondering about the best way to bring this topic up and decided to be straightforward.
"Soooo, Lan Zhan, when did you start to like me that way?"
Lan Zhan choked on his food.
Frantic to help him, Wei Wuxian carelessly handed him a glass of "water" which wasn't water at all and instead Wei Wuxian's own cup of alcohol.
"Oh no. Lan Zhan, that's alcohol!"
But it was too late. Within ten seconds, Lan Zhan was out cold.
...
Wei Wuxian had a little fun doing some Q&A with a drunk Lan Zhan, who seemed to hang onto Wei Wuxian's every word. However, there were some questions he didn't want to answer or was shy about answering.
So cute..... Wei Wuxian grinned. “Lan Zhan~” He leaned closer. “Want a kiss?” He winked.
“....” Lan Wangji looked shocked, but his ears flared red.
“Come on, Lan Zhan. I like you and you like me, so it’s okay, right?” It’s a little dubious considering he’s inebriated, but he’s just....so cute!
Suddenly, Lan Wangji flipped him around, pressing him into the bed and killing the candlelight.
Oh-ho? So forward. But, I’m not going to let him get the-- Wei Wuxian suddenly found himself unable to move. Damn this body-locking spell! “Lan Zhan~!” He whined. “Undo it, now! It’s uncomfortable!”
Lan Wangji took that moment to undo his belt. “
“No, no, no, not that! The spel---mmph!”
“No talking. It’s haishi (7-9 pm). Time for sleep!”
“Can’t we talk while in bed? I’m still awake!!”
“No.”
“Aiya, so merciless.......”
............
In the end, Wei Wuxian ended up having to clarify his words the next morning. Lan Wangji looked shocked and taken aback when Wei Wuxian confessed, as if he wasn’t expecting it.
“Wei Ying, I....I like you too. But....you....” You never felt this way before. The words were unspoken yet heard nonetheless.
“I know. But death gives clarity to things previously unknown. And I, along this journey with you, found I really enjoy your company. I cannot see myself anywhere but by your side.” Wei Wuxian grasped his hands. “But on the other hand, Lan Zhan, you......you don’t mind being with me? My reputation--”
“Doesn’t matter.” Lan Wangji said, tone clipped. “I already missed one chance to be with you. I will not make the same mistake.”
Wei Wuxian felt an immense amount of elation. His eyes began to burn. “......Lan Zhan,” He started, voice serious. “If you agree to be with me, I won’t let you go. I’m too used to people from me, so I’ll hold onto you even tighter than I’ve done for others. Even hearing that, are you willing to be with me?”
“....Yes.”
Wei Wuxian threw himself at Lan Wangji, hugging him tight. Lan Zhan, you’ve said it. You’re mine now. And I..... He opened his eyes, which burned bright red.
I will never let you go.....
....................
Despite having made that decision, Wei Wuxian still couldn’t overpower Lan Wangji. He had always been the dominant one in his relationships as Luo Binghe, so to find himself instead being pressed down and made to behave....made him feel both weak but....strangely happy(?).
Whatever it was, Wei Wuxian didn’t mind their current dynamics.
However, now that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were courting, Wei Wuxian felt the need to spoil Lan Wangji. He didn’t have much to his name, but he did remember how to cook. He wasn’t sure his current body would adapt, but he’s sure that with a little practice, he would get better.
So he got right down to cooking - after he found out Lan Wangji’s favorite dishes - and presented them to him. Lan Wangji seemed pretty happy to receive the dishes and was all praises to him.
Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but feel smug and on cloud-nine all day.
“When did you learn?” Lan Wangji asked.
Wei Wuxian froze at that. Ah. That’s right. I haven’t told him about my past life. “Practice, of course! I couldn’t just serve you food without practicing!” I’ll tell him later. I’m....not ready to see his reaction to my past life.
(Later, of course, Lan Wangji one-upped him by buying him new clothes and a flute.)
..........................
Time passed and eventually the two made their way to Yi City. Everything was pretty much fine except for the children and Xue Yang showing up. But both were taken care of - in different ways - soon enough.
Wei Wuxian felt bad for Xiao Xingchen, Song Zichen, and A’ Qing but wished them well. More importantly, Wei Wuxian got Xin Mo back! It was hiding in Xue Yang’s sleeve and was easy to call out. There was some masked man that came not long after and took Xue Yang’s body, probably thinking that the Seal was on it.
Having finished their business in Yi City, he, Lan Wangji and the juniors all headed to a nearby town to rest up.
..............
It was quite fun seeing a drunk Lan Zhan getting all jealous over Wen Ning, and then playing hide and seek with Wei Wuxian. It was kinda sad to see him fall asleep after sharing a sweet kiss with Wei Wuxian but he took it all in stride.
(Wei Wuxian discovered the meaning of the forehead ribbon and spent some time steaming in embarrassment at how he basically propositioned Lan Zhan all those years ago, until he was interrupted. The corpse pieces they had gathered had broken free and went on a rampage but it was solved soon after Lan Xichen arrived.)
.
.
.
As the two of them headed for the discussion conference in Lanling, Wei Wuxian remembered to ask, “Hey, Lan Zhan, what did Mo Xuanyu do to attract so much ire?”
Lan Zhan thought for a bit, “I am not quite sure, but from what Xiongzhang told me, he made some......untoward advances to Jin-zongzhu.”
“Ah-cha......really? Mo Xuanyu, ah, Mo Xuanyu, really??”
“I cannot be sure. I have never trusted rumors unless I see it happen with my own eyes. ....Especially coming from the Jins.”
“Heheh, Lan Zhan, are you angry at them for running a smear campaign on me?”
“Mn.”
Wei Wuxian was tempted to tease him, but noticed the odd looks of the people around him. Hm??? Why are they looking at me like that?
The conference continued and Wei Wuxian continued to be on his best behavior. Considering what Mo Xuanyu did, drawing attention to himself was not really a desired outcome. Though him sitting next to Lan Wangji was drawing enough attention.
Nevertheless, it passed by quickly and soon Wei Wuxian got bored, he decided to skip the rest of the conference and wander around. He found Jin Ling being bullied and decided to teach him so tricks to win. The child was happy and Wei Wuxian felt a twinge of guilt looking at him.
His mother and father died because of me. Though I never meant to kill them....it still pains me to this day. Perhaps if I had awakened my memories sooner.....none of this would have happened, but.....but it’s too late for regrets.
“Hey, Lan Zhan, what happened to Suibian?” He had completely forgotten about his trusty sword.
“It sealed itself and is with the Jins.”
“Huh? The Jins? Not the Jiangs?”
“Mn.”
“Odd. Suibian was created by Yunmeng Jiang. Even though I was no longer part of the Jiangs by the time I died, the sword should go to the Jiangs considering its origins. Strange how no one questioned it.”
“Mn. Everyone was too busy with the.........aftermath.” He clenched his fists at that and Wei Wuxian could imagine why.
His notes and inventions were probably all squirreled up with the sects. The greedy bastards probably couldn’t contain their excitement over getting a piece of my knowledge.
.....
Wei Wuxian decided to explore Jin Guangyao’s chambers after he and Lan Zhan had concluded that he was suspicious. And sure enough, there was a bunch of information he found out. Namely, Nie Mingjue’s head and everything the poor guy had experienced as well as Qin Su who seemed hysterical at something. He had planned on sneaking back with he was caught by Jin Guangyao.
Thinking quickly, he summoned Suibian and blocked Jin Guangyao’s attacks, making his escape. He had to inform Lan Zhan!
.
.
The confrontation was a lot more public than Wei Wuxian was expecting. But oh well. He managed to just barely save Qin Su. The poor girl had been about to stab herself for some odd reason and he couldn’t allow that! She was a key witness to Jin Guangyao’s machinations. So he shot out his spiritual energy to grab onto the knife and fling it away. He knocked the girl out soon after and after a little debate, placed her with Jiang Cheng.
He didn’t really trust Lan Xichen considering how close he was to Jin Guangyao. And though he didn’t quite see himself being close with Jiang Cheng, he still trusted him to keep her away from the Jins.
Also.....he was a lot more prepared for Jin Guangyao’s accusations considering he didn’t draw Suibian and pretended like it was still sealed. It cast a lot of doubt on whether he was actually Wei Wuxian which didn’t seem like what Jin Guangyao had planned for.
Regardless of whether Wei Wuxian drew Suibian in public or not, they were still surrounded by Jin disciples, as many were still in doubt.
This is.....annoying. It's cute that Lan Zhan is protecting me but considering their numbers, I don't think it'll last long. Though, I could still make a move. Just these few numbers isn't enough to stop me. They're already suspicious enough about me and I've become strong enough. Xin Mo is by my side too. .....Eh, fuck it.
"Welp, guess I've been caught. But," He innocently tilted his head to the side. "What makes you think I'll go down without a fight?"
"You....You devil! You bewitched Hanguang-Jun!!"
"Hmm, that's true enou---"
"I was happy to be bewitched." Lan Zhan interrupted despite the scandalized gasps that resounded in the square.
Wei Wuxian grinned widely despite the circumstance, cupping Lan Wangji's face. "You were, weren't you? You were bewitched by me and were all too happy to do so. After all, Lan Zhan, you agreed to be mine, right?"
Lan Zhan's ears went red. "Yes."
"Then these little distractions," He continued, eyes glowing bright red. "Should just go away, no? Xin Mo, restrain them."
Xin Mo flew out from his sleeve, glowing and eerie red. Within an instant, the Jins were all suppressed, Xin Mo alighting softly into his palm.
"You....You're Wei Wuxian?" Jin Ling's voice trembled.
"Hm, yes."
Wei Wuxian spotted the drawing of his sword and sighed. Flicking out a finger, Suihua was tossed to a side.
"Nice try, but you aren't stabbing me today."
"I....I deserve to. You killed my father!!"
"I did. But Jin Ling, did you ever stop to think about why I may have done that?"
"Wha--"
There were noises of protest so Wei Wuxian used some resentful energy to block their mouths.
"Jin Ling, when that rat Jin Zixun decided to ambush me with three hundred archers, do you know what your father said upon seeing me defend myself?"
"N-No?"
"He told me to restrain Wen Ning. He told me, who had been cornered and desperate to escape, to restrain Wen Ning, the only person protecting me while three hundred archers pointed their weapons at me. So tell me, Jin Ling, what was I supposed to think of your father, who had said that, and now came close to me, radiating hostility? I had never spent much time with him. How was I supposed to know that he wasn't an enemy as well? I didn't want to kill him but I didn't want him close either. With those two desires warring inside me, Wen Ning, under my direction and in his unconscious state, chose to stop him. How he stopped him from getting close, I'm sure you could imagine."
Jin Ling looked so confused so Wei Wuxian took pity on him. He'd probably been told otherwise his entire life. I should give him some time to think over what I've said.
"Lan Zhan, let's go."
"Mn."
...............
The two of them had made an escape to the Cloud Recesses whereWei Wuxian threw up a bit of blood.
“Wei Ying!”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. I just had to get purge the resentful energy from harming my core. Let’s rest at the Cloud Recesses and find out some info. There was something in Nie Mingjue’s memories that piqued my interest......”
...
After resting in the Gentian house, they found a missing page in the Collection of Turmoil and with it, some proof of Jin Guangyao’s guilt. Lan Xichen didn’t seem to want to believe it and went outside to get some air. He shared their mother’s story and played a song on his xiao.
Wei Wuxian was quiet for a bit. He couldn’t say a single word of comfort. Having lost a mother in all of his lives, he knew that no amount of words could ever fill the gap where they should have been.
................
Soon after, they heard news of the juniors being kidnapped and went on an impromptu mission to rescue them. Of course, it was a trap, what with the sect leaders having been tricked into believing it was Wei Wuxian’s fault.
“You speak of your grievances of Nightless City?” he said disdainfully. “Ha! You only got what you deserved. Each and every single time I caused a big ruckus, tell me, who attacked first?” He shook his head, red eyes staring them all down. “It was you. It was always you who attacked first. I was just defending myself. Or could it be that you just want me to lie back and let you kill me?” He sneered. “How. Shameless. Of. You.”
The people before him shook with barely restrained anger. A few tried to attack him, but Lan Zhan defended him.
“Hanguang-Jun! How could you defend him?!” A few cried in outrage.
“Wangji, come back.” Lan Qiren asked.
Lan Zhan gave them a cold stare, “No.”
Angered, some random person - Wei Wuxian couldn’t be bothered to remember the name of - began to insult Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji didn’t really care, “You are not qualified to speak to me.” And made the person sputter.
Which was nice and all but......that was the last straw.
For Wei Wuxian, at least. “Kneel.” Resentful energy filled him and forced those that insulted him to fall to their knees. “Listen here, you pathetic lowlifes. It is thanks to my array that you powerless louts are shielded here. Should you think of ever insulting my Lan Zhan again, perhaps I should revoke your right to be here.”
The fools shivered on their knees.
Satisfied, Wei Wuxian began to explain to the idiots why exactly their spiritual energy didn’t work and they didn’t believe him until Wei Wuxian tricked one of them into using spiritual energy to destroy a sheet of paper containing information. Spiritual energy, which they shouldn’t have.
That person - the Su sect leader - escaped soon after breaking the barrier.
Putting his hand to his forehead, Wei Wuxian directed them out and together with the juniors, Wen Ning and Lan Zhan, suppressed the rest of the corpses.
Having completed all that, they all headed to Lotus Pier to consolidate their information.
..............
Wei Wuxian watched the crowd slowly turn against Jin Guangyao, and begin to create new rumors and new fears about him. They began to slowly turn him into an irredeemable villain and yet another scapegoat for their anger and Wei Wuxian couldn’t watch anymore.
He escaped that place and began to show Lan Wangji all of his favorite places. Including the tree that had started his relationship with Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli.
Seeing Lan Zhan standing there, Wei Wuxian had a thought. If he caught me....like so many others had failed to before, how would I feel?
He slipped from the tree straight into Lan Zhan’s arms.
Safe. It feels.....safe. Strange how I hardly felt this comfortable before. I.....I really do love him.
.
.
Together, they went to the ancestral shrine as Wei Wuxian wanted to say some things.
Jiang Fengmian, you never told me about my parents. Regardless of your grief or your terrible wife, I could never understand your reluctance, but perhaps, you wanted to have something to tether me to the sect.
Yu Ziyuan, I despise you. You made my life a living hell despite all that you taught me. My parents (of my second life) were in love with each other. You knew that. You knew that nothing came between my mother and Jiang Fengmian. I wonder if there’s another reason you treated me so horribly. It doesn’t matter now. You are dead and I......am free.
Jiang Yanli, I saw you as a sister in my second life. I enjoyed our time together, I really did, but if you really cared for me.....I--
He never finished that thought as Jiang Cheng bursted in, interrupting his thoughts. He accused him of all sorts of things and Wei Wuxian was just tired.
“Lan Zhan, let’s go.”
“Mn.”
As they turned to leave, Jiang Cheng hurled more insults at them. Wei Wuxian heard Zidian unfurl and only had a split moment to think, covering Lan Wangji’s body with his. He threw up blood upon contact and that, combined with the exhaustion of the entire day caused him to pass out.
“Wei Ying!!” Lan Wangji was immediately at his side but couldn’t think fast enough to block the next attack.
Luckily, Wen Ning was there to stop it. And he was uncharacteristically mad.
Lan Wangji felt frustrated tears roll down his cheeks at the reveal of what happened to Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng just felt his world collapse.
Wen Ning stared Jiang Cheng down, anger infused with every word as he told them both what exactly Wei Wuxian sacrificed.
After Jiang Cheng ran away, carrying Suibian, Lan Wangji and Wen Ning took a boat and headed to Yunping.
Wei Wuxian woke up soon after and began to hand feed Lan Zhan the lotus seeds from plucked lotus pods. Lan Wangji returned the favor and the two of them cuddled close as Wen Ning looked up and away.
.............................
Soon enough, Wei Wuxian found himself at Guanyin temple by himself. He had......accidentally given Lan Zhan more alcohol, had fun wandering around the town and causing havoc, and then...... Wei Wuxian blushed remembering what the two of them did then. However.....remembering the whip scars and Wen brand, he frowned. Who on earth did that to him?
Unfortunately, though, they weren’t able to go any further as Lan Wangji just passed out when it hit curfew.
Wei Wuxian left Xin Mo with Lan Zhan, hoping it could protect his unconscious form and decided to explore on his own. After all, what’s the worst that could happen?
.
.
.
Turns out, being captured after saving Jin Ling is what happened.
Honestly, he should have prepared for a situation like this but he was too preoccupied with what he did with Lan Zhan to properly form a plan. Oh well, Lan Zhan will wake up soon enough.
But not before Lan Xichen had decided that now was a good time to scold him for ever wanting Lan Zhan after what he said to him in the cave. And Wei Wuxian, confused, said, “What cave?”
His memories were all mixed up so there’s a chance that he could have mixed something up but the situation Lan Xichen was describing didn’t register. However, Wei Wuxian couldn’t accept Lan Xichen’s words.
“Lan-zongzhu, you should know that in my eyes, I had tried my damn hardest to make Lan Zhan like me and he only rejected me. He never let me be close enough to understand his quirks and I wasn’t around him long enough to learn. So how the hell am I supposed to know that he had liked me then? All I knew was that he often glared at me and, according to the others who were closer to me, that he hated me. Having had a set opinion about him like that, how was I supposed to know he was an ally?
Zewu-jun, only you and Lan Qiren knew him well. So don’t blame me for that. And besides, the whipping? Ha! Lan Xichen, all Lan Zhan’s life, he had been good and obedient. Even when defending me at Nightless City, he didn’t kill or permanently maim those elders. And yet, look at what happened to him. One mistake and you nearly kill him.
That isn’t my fault, that isn’t Lan Zhan’s fault.
Lan Xichen. It is you and your clan’s fault for Lan Zhan ending up that way. So don’t make me the scapegoat for your guilt.”
So deep into his rant, Wei Wuxian didn’t notice a sober Lan Zhan arrive as well as Jin Guangyao’s sneak attack.
A guqin wire pressed against his throat as Jin Guangyao threatened Lan Wangji with hurting Wei Wuxian. It was pretty effective and within a few seconds, Lan Zhan sealed his spiritual energy and stepped back.
Annoyed at the turn of events, Wei Wuxian began to describe in explicit detail what he’d like Lan Wangji to do to him. He didn’t even get that far when Jin Guangyao’s grip on him loosened, giving him an opportunity to escape.
What followed.......
What followed was Jiang Cheng’s appearance and defeat at Jin Guangyao’s hands, Su Minshan revealing himself to be the catalyst for Wei Wuxian’s eventual death, Nie Mingjue’s return, Wen Ning’s protection over Jin Ling, Nie Huaisang’s trick and Jin Guangyao’s subsequent death, the sealing of Nie Mingjue and the collapse of the Guanyin temple.
In the ruins of it all, Wei Wuxian couldn’t care less. The mystery had been solved and he and Lan Zhan were free to do what they wanted. They went on their own way despite the way Lan Qiren keeled over (at the sight of them).
Wei Wuxian had his happy ending and he hoped to keep it that way.
.........................................................
[Bonus]
Lan Sizhui didn’t really know what to think of Hanguang-jun, his father figure, suddenly showing interest in a rumored lunatic. But honestly, he was glad. Hanguang-Jun had this perpetual aura of grief for some time and it seemed that spending time with Mo-gongzi alleviated that somewhat.
Lan Sizhui was happy for them. (And even more so once he remember who he was to Xian-gege.)
/////////
Lan Jingyi didn’t know that Hanguang-Jun was a cutsleeve, but that was fine with him! He didn’t know what to think when it was Mo Xuanyu, but he became a little more agreeable to it once he found out that it was actually Wei Wuxian.
They made such a power couple! Lan Jingyi was sure they would definitely show all those haters who’s boss!
///////////
Nie Huaisang wasn’t expecting this kind of development when he reunited Lan Wangji with Wei Wuxian, but he wasn’t complaining. There seemed to be something......different about Wei-xiong and he seemed....a lot more powerful than he was before.
But never mind that! Nie Huaisang was looking forward to the plays and books he could write to honor their story!
/////////////
Jiang Cheng could sense that something was wrong with Wei Wuxian. He wasn’t as afraid of dogs anymore and his personality seemed similar, but also completely different at the same time.
And on top of that, he got together with Lan Wangji of all people!
Jiang Cheng was very uncomfortable seeing such an openly in love couple but more than that.......never mind.
(More than that........Jiang Cheng was just glad that Wei Wuxian got his happy ending. )
///////////////
All in all, the consensus of the relationship between Hanguang-Jun and the Yiling Patriarch was torn between outrage and a little bit of admiration.
Some enjoyed the story of the two and others still couldn’t accept the Yiling Patriarch.
But it didn’t matter what people thought. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji ignored it all. They loved each other and that’s all that mattered.
