What's your most interesting or unhinged WIP fact? Tell us about it! How did you come up with this?

Hey! Thanks for the ask! Tumblr is being weird with notifications so I only just saw this, so sorry for the delay!

One of the most interesting facts about The Princess, The Pauper and the Pirate is about one of the main characters, Kai.

He was originally part of a trio of ghost hunting ocs who i eventually repurposed into the three protagonists of PPP, and his original name was Elias.

I originally changed them into fantasy characters about six months before I had my gender crisis, and when I realised that I was a boy, I realised that the name that fit me most was the same as my favourite oc - Elias

Yeah, I named myself after my favourite badass tiefling pirate and it honestly inspired me to keep writing since I loved him so much

How long have you been writing your main WIP? How has your writing grown/developed over that time?

Hi, thank you for the ask!!

(I just realized I had this in my drafts for DAYS omg)

This is kind of a complicated question because I recycle anything I like from WIPs that didn't work, and I've been writing for, like, half my life.

I mentioned before that the oldest element of my writing still standing is Seth, who is currently the protagonist of "Devourer of Souls", but that's basically just his name. He used to be the villain of a nameless WIP I had in 6th grade, then became the villain of a dead WIP I had in 8th grade called "Monsters of Glass". This is where he became associated with all the stuff in "Devourer of Souls". At this point, he was already "older magical doctor hated by the government", but he only became a nice cottagecore man recently.

After that, you technically have the genesis of the Dystopia WIP but, just like Seth, the only surviving elements are Cristover and Nester Kalenev, which I later recycled. The Dystopia WIP is my least recycled WIP, since all the characters and places are new except those two.

And the "youngest" WIP, which has changed the least over time, is "Black and White". All the characters are the same, except for a few minor ones like Hugo, as well as the setting and general idea of the plot. It originally was just a straight murder mystery with no magic involved, but then I studied "The Picture of Dorian Grey" in school and it altered my brain chemistry. Fun fact: instead of a lovecraftian entity, the Man in Black and White used to be Reyna in disguise, going around and killing people for undefined reasons.

B&W has a part 2 based on none of the recycled stuff bc it just felt half-baked, but otherwise I've been with this WIP since 9th grade.

Wow this ask made me feel... not old exactly, but also like I've been writing for a ling-ass time. Got me ✨reminiscing✨.

Hello!!

I'm doing well, just keeping busy with daily life. I've been watching a lot of great movies which is super inspiring.

I havent been working too much on my characters that I've announced but instead some different ones!! I'm currently trying to make a villain who is likeable and relatable while also having them do illegal shit without remorse. It's a actually quite challenging but I'm enjoying it. I'm stuck on the hero for that wip... I want to make him playful while also not terribly annoying in the "do-gooder" way. It's a different style of story than I normally do in that way and im excited to do more work for it and talk about it!

I only have one wip that I've been working on since the beginning of time so I'll just answer for that <3

So recently, I've been doing some more worldbuilding for my wip and it's actually been productive! It's helped me come up with more ideas for the plot as we'll and it was just fun in general.

My favourite thing of all time was definitely writing the scene where Rai meets Camila. I think it's one of the best written parts of the wip and I think the spookiness came across really well.

silent admission in tarot, the fool is numbered 0 – the number of unlimited potential. as the protagonist, he is ever present and therefore needs no number as well as no introduction. the world revolves around you in ways that i can't begin to describe, though you'd shrug it off if i were to begin to explain. i need you to know that time is running out. if you want to get this done, you need to start now. sloth is your greatest enemy in this world, and you can only run so far from the opposition when you start with such a disadvantage. keep your head high, yeah? the kid you were is still in there somewhere. you need to show him that it was worth it.

Ooh, I don't actually know off the top of my head...

I think Violetta has a weakness for Savoury French pastries, she probably has a favourite boulangerie (bakery) she goes to every time she's in France.

Katherine and Daniel are both about to end up at a cafe, so it will be interesting to see what they order, and if they have any particular favourites to learn about.

while it can be dangerous, people can take care of echovores in the anechoic universe! most curators including vitro however don't keep pets of any kind because of their work. but i can imagine many other characters (that i have yet to develop) have cool echovores as pets. like taking care of snakes :)

"Things" are going, but the WIP (which is book 2 of the Truth Saga) is going well! I hit a slump for a minute while editing because my writing process is a lil chaotic and so was my zero draft 😅 But I got some help from a friend and I figured out what was going wrong, so now I'm busy restructuring what I've written to make a more solid outline to work off!

Writing an ensemble cast is Hard. And when you look up advice you get a lot of people saying "just don't" or "get rid of some characters"???? Which like,,,, cool, helpful, thanks. But I think I'm working it out bit by bit.

On the subject, my characters are *glances at them* apprehensive 🤣 Their lives are a Struggle and when I start getting rushes of ideas like I have over the last day or two, someone gets hurt skfgjhsgkj I'm already plotting the death of one character and figuring out some angsty plot points for others so it's gonna be a Ride.

Joel's mom puts down her glass and clasps her hands. She looks at the two of you on the sofa, then turns her attention to you. “He was top of his class, ya know.”

You raise your eyebrows at him, but he looks at her.

“Ma.” Joel’s tone is cautionary, but his eyes are pleading.

She smiles proudly at you, ignoring him.

You try not to sound as shocked as you are when you ask, “Really?”

She nods.

“Mama,” he whispers, sits back in defeat, and wipes his hand down his whole face.

She continues, “There were a couple other boys, went in ‘round the same time – took’em three tries to get their GED." She shakes her head like that's a shame. "Three tries, at least. Joel got his on the first,” she beams. “The Warden shook his hand.”

Your heart skips a beat, and your face gets cold, but you pray it doesn't show.

Notes: if you're not in the u.s., warden most commonly implies prison warden, and GED is like a high school equivalent diploma you can do self study if you can't or don't finish at high school for whatever reason (like having to work or pregnancy or if you're in prison or juvenile detention). this is something to be proud of, but Mama slasher is kinda cray in the way she talks about "his class" and clumsy in casually referencing his time as an inmate.

Also there might be another part before this for pacing (smut at the end of both parts).

Returning to Writblr!

Hi! Some of you may have once known me as maximised, but due to burnout and life experiences that blog became inactive, so I am launching a new writblr account, coarsely! This is a re/introduction for anyone who may have forgotten me or is new here!

I'm Brieuc, pronounced Br-ee-oo-k.

I am queer and use thon/thons, they/them, he/him, she/her and ae/aer pronouns.

I am an adult.

I am autistic.

I typically write in the fantasy and sci-fi genres, and I enjoy large casts of characters to play with different thought processes, experiences, and in-character problem solving.

My main Tumblr account is @brw, and is both personal and fandom based, mostly comic books, star trek and film. I also am an amateur graphic designer, photographer and filmmaker.

My current wip is titled "Anti-Chronicles", the title may change down the line. I am currently within the planning/first draft stage, and am constantly re-working and adding more to my lore document. The current snippet I am working on follows the adventures of Vítor and Saccade, two strangers brought together by the mysterious disappearance of a young girl.

I am also occasionally working on "Hadal Zone", a murder mystery romance aboard a merchant ship after it picks up the survivors from a cruising ship.

I have other projects I may mention from time to time, but Anti-Chronicles is my main project at the moment, and if I'm not talking about that I am probably talking about Hadal Zone. However, I'm always happy to talk about my other projects if you are curious about those too!

This year has had many ups and downs, and as of late it feels as if the whole world is a down. Real life has really smacked me down, and I've felt so isolated from all of the things and people I love. But as ever, the world is looking up, and I can see the light...and looking back brings me so much joy and fulfillment. I've accomplished so much that I don't give myself credit for. More than I'll dare type up here, but let's go through the highlight reel, shall we?

For my dear friend Beth's birthday, I finally posted some of my HP Astro work to AO3! (Speaking of which, I really should work on adding more soon...)

A_Loveunlaced (@a-loveunlaced) is an artist I very much admire, so the start of the year was super cool getting to chat with them, seeing their Snarry art, and writing a ficlet for said art, Again (and Again).

Delved into and fully embraced the controversy by running HP Chan Fest with @cindle-writes, which was such a cool and meaningful experience.

Plus I wrote some fics I'm really proud of for said fest: profane holy, Cruel Summer, The Virgin Bride.

Also my dear friend Viran (@mrviran) drew some fanart for Cruel Summer, I believe while it was still anonymous and everything! But she also totally called that it was me who wrote it, which is always fun for me when people know me in the Anon stages!

I wrote more fics for Kinkuary and Kinktober (which I always love!)

Shared more meta on AO3 with The Half-Blood History (I really do need to import more meta there!)

Finally wrote and posted chapter 3 for smile with sweet surprise (aka Stepdad Snape fic)

Started writing and sharing WIPs I've been long excited for: Wasted for Love (Golden Triad + Snarry) and A Taste for You (Sugar Daddy Harry).

I ran HP Fruit Fest solo! Which was a lot, but I had fun and I was super thrilled to not be the only one super into fruit!

I taught myself how to bind books, and now I have a growing collection of bound fics! Check out #danpuff binds to see some!

More recs, as ever, but especially the ongoing Dead Dove Diaries series of rec lists.

Speaking of recs, I'm helping mod @hprecfest, which is so fun for me! I love seeing people's recs, and I love being part of an event that is spreading so much fun and love around the community!

Also, making my own recs for the event! I've got at least one fic queued up for each day, I think! And some days have even more!

For Snarry-a-Thon I wrote a companion piece to last year's Contempt (aka my heart and soul), called Devotion, which my friend Aristi kindly beta read for me! The whole series is so deeply meaningful to me and it feels so huge to add more to it.

For Snarry Bang, I teamed up with my pal Viran (@mrviran) for The Curse of Anteros. I wiffle-waffled on what to write for the longest time, but my vacation to Orlando unlocked something in me. The whole fic hit me like a hurricane and came out in like a 2 week period. And the art Viran created for it is spectacular (I'm still obsessed). Oh, and it was such a treat having the fabulous @writcraft beta! There's nothing quite like having a creator you admire help your work be its best version!

And, of course, I had another opportunity to chat with my friend Beth for @fanficmaverickpodcast, with the episode: A Very Snarry Christmas.

And lots more, but this is plenty enough to be going with! Not half bad for the year, yeah? 😄

Hi!! Happy Ask-A-Thon day!!

I'd have to say what I enjoy the most is writing my main WIP, "Black and White", because of all the stuff I can do, since it's an original work.

That being said, I also really enjoy writing fanfiction every one in a while, because I always set out to explore new ideas I haven't seen (my fic-writing mentality is basically "write what you can't believe doesn't exist yet"). I really like playing around with different pieces of canon and either expanding upon them or just re-imagining them for an AU.

The most fun I've had with a fic recently is one I'll link here. It's a Genshin fic called "The Dragon and the Opera Singer" and I've said before that it's genuinely one of my favourite pieces yet (it's locked for gests bc AI scraping is a bitch).

But don't get me wrong: writing my original stuff is still the most fun aspect of being a writer!

Hi Athena! Thank you for the ask :D (I still don't understand how you've managed to send them to so many people. Its amazing!)

Yes they would and they do! Well not quite a god but a being called a glory who is a magic user with godlike powers (they can change reality, resurrect when they die unless they're trapped in a death loop).

In general they all end up fighting at least one glory but there are a few scenes I have planned where someone has to get saved. My favourite one is near the end of the first book where Rai is severely injured and Lux manages to fend off the glory single handedly to save him. I just think its super sweet :')

@micheladee tagged me in the "post a couple paragraphs of your WIP" share-a-thon, so figured I'd go through my Word docs and see what I could find - thank you so much for the tag, Michela :)

Truth be told, if y'all will allow me to vent a bit first... it's been a bit of a shitter these last couple years, especially wrt getting any sort of writing done. Never mind with fics (of which I feel awful I've barely started anything new, even the WIP below is from last year) - but I've also been trying to finally write a novel of my own after realising I really, really want to... and the words just aren't coming. Whether it's because of fear of ridicule, fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, fear of financial stresses, fear of whatever... it's been really fucking rough since my spouse and I moved cross-country, and I've def been feeling ashamed at my lack of creative output :(

On the bright side, I'm getting some help with therapy and I'm doing a couple workshops to get me back into the swing of being creative so that I can tackle the work-life balance and not feel like the entirety of my (and my spouse's) survival rests squarely on my shoulders. Whether that means I'll be able to post any new work soon is up for debate, but honestly just taking these baby steps is better than nothing, so I'll take what I can get (and my body + mind can give).

And I know there's no "admission fee" to partake in fandom, but I still feel I'd be remiss if I didn't offer a huge apology for not positing fics recently, and especially for not commenting on fics y'all have made in these last several months - please believe me when I say I see y'all's work and it's great and makes me feel so many necessary things, even if I'm not able to type the words on AO3 atm.

Anyhow, just wanted to share an update with y'all and let you know I'm still here, still alive... just taking it one day at a time for now in order to keep my sanity strong!

When he was thrust back to reality in his own body, there was the usual disorientation that was to be expected of someone summoned through the dark arts. After all, if the infamous Thief King from 3,000 years ago had existed as a separate being before, there was no reason Malik’s other half couldn’t, too. Except… Ryou Bakura hadn’t exactly planned for this extra passenger to crawl his way back from the shadows alongside the former spirit. And what “Malik’s other half” – the phrase enough to make said individual gag – definitely hadn’t expected was for such confusion to be tainted by a profound sadness… one that had permeated his entire being for the last six months. Or however long it had been. Malik had gotten what he’d wanted, Ryou had gotten what he wanted, the Thief King had kind of gotten what he wanted – and all that “Malik’s other half” had gotten was a sense of displacement, dysmorphia and disdain. “You know… he’s welcome to stay here, Malik.” “You weren’t conscious during that damned duel fifteen years ago, host. Just be glad you weren’t privy to his cruelty firsthand.” “He’s right, Ryou. You’ve done enough already. There’s no need to put yourself in more danger.” “But there’s not much harm he can do now. I mean—" “I can hear you all.” Three pairs of eyes had greeted him when he’d first turned over on a – soft – bed. His hands had been bound, and he’d growled and snarled so much that he’d made Malik and the Thief King back up – but not the white-haired man in-between them. “You probably have lots of questions right now. And…” The blush that formed on the man’s cheeks had sent a – strange – shiver down his spine, warming his bound wrists. “I’m sorry I don’t have many answers.” He had merely hmphed at that, avoiding eye contact with his “main personality” and the thief who’d dared face him. Instead, he focused on the wide eyes of the man who must have been called— “Ryou… it’s no use. We need to send him back before he does some real damage again.” “Snap out of it, landlord. Just look at how he’s staring at you.” But the man – Ryou – had just tilted his head and let loose a very small smile. “What’s your name?”
