A Break in Formality
(HANKCON FANFIC)
~Connor and Hank's unspoken feelings for one another spark to life, and neither knows how to handle the flames.
Chapter one:
“Can I ask you a question, Lieutenant?”
The decorated officer sighs, aimlessly scrolling through the “Missing Deviants” section of the police database. Deviancy is skyrocketing, and Hank dreads how the station chose him, of all detectives, to figure out the source of what makes androids go haywire.
“Let me guess, it’s another personal one?”
“No, nothing personal. Though, if you want me to ask you a personal question, I can come up with one.”
“Nah.” Hank lifts his mug of coffee and takes a generous slurp. “You already know enough about my life to make a damn book out of it, and I bet it’d only take you two seconds to write it out, huh? Or, compute—whatever.”
“More like two minutes. There’s a lot of your eventful life to document.”
“Eventful. Pfft.” He finishes the last drops of caffeine and scratches his beard. “That’s one way to put it.”
Connor’s circuits burned to ask his question—a question that had thrown him into an uncharted territory within his programming, making him second-guess if it’s really worth asking.
“Would you like a refill on your coffee?”
Hank gives him a sidelong glance. “That’s your fucking question?”
“Not my original one, no.”
“So what was it?”
“The original question?” Connor asks with a tilt of his head.
“Jesus Christ, Connor, just spit it out! Why are you playing dumb with me? What is it?”
Connor’s lenses adjust to his folded hands atop his lap. “It's… I…”
Hank swivels his chair to fully face him. It wasn’t like Connor to stutter or be at a loss for words.
Was he malfunctioning?
The LED shone an unnerving yellow before cooling back down to blue, and it worried Hank more than he cared to admit.
“Connor, if you don’t—”
“Can you grab me and shove me against the wall? Like how you did some time ago, before we got the lead on the runaway AX400 and the child that accompanied it?”
Connor peers up to witness a stupefied, slack-jawed statue of Hank.
“I’ll go ahead and explain myself. In that moment, when you held me hostage, so to speak, I noted a slight anomaly that occurred within my programming, and I’d like for it to reappear so that I can try to decipher what exactly happened during my processing.”
“Well, normally you take someone to dinner first before they put their hands on ya.”
Connor has spent enough time with Hank at this point that he was no stranger to the gruff man’s sarcastic quips, and this was one he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to play along with.
“Alright, then. I’ve found three restaurants in the area whose websites all show open reservations. Would you like to hear the options?”
Hank waves his hand dismissively. “So there’s something wrong with you?”
“Currently, no. My recent diagnostic test shows positive results.”
Hank leans back in his chair and returns to his computer, pretending he isn’t weirded out by the offhand request.
“Then have someone else do it. Maybe it’s just a thing that happens when you plastic fucks get a little roughhoused.”
“That isn’t the case, Lieutenant.”
Connor leans over his desk and lowers his voice.
“Though the impact of my body being shoved against the wall did elicit a warning for potential damage, it wasn’t flagged as a negative occurrence like it should have been. It was marked as positive.”
Hank snorts. “Sooo, what? It turned you on or somethin’?”
Connor blinks. “RK800 models don’t experience sexual arousal.”
“Well maybe someone fucked up when they made you. You lucky duck.”
Hank looks over at him with a stupid grin on his face—which disappears when he notices Connor staring into nothing, LED swirling yellow.
“Uh… should I tell Fowler you’re having… technical difficulties?”
Connor snaps out of whatever he was experiencing and straightens his posture, LED relaxing into a circle of blue. “There’s no need. As I’ve said, there are no apparent issues with my current stability.”
Hank’s repetitive pen clicking fills the silence between them. Should he make the report to Fowler anyway? Maybe it was just a minuscule error with no future of daunting consequences. But, what if it’s a virus, and Connor’s software is corrupted?
What if he's turning deviant?
The breath Hank didn’t know he was holding escapes. He drags his attention away from the android, who had started dissecting paperwork.
“Shit, I’m overthinking this bs,” he mumbles.
“Overthinking what, Lieutenant?”
“Ergh, fuck you and your state-of-the-art hearing. Just do your work—”
“Lieutenant Anderson.”
“Oh, here we fuckin’ go,” Hank grumbles under his breath and nods at the young officer who approaches with purpose. “Whatcha got for me, Miller?”
“A house half a mile away with a dead android and its dead owner inside.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’m on it.” Hank rises and slides his coat on, eager to focus on something else rather than the storm cloud of thoughts the android detective summoned. “Come on, Connor. Let’s mosey.”
~~~
“Any possible chance you can still access its memory?”
On the kitchen floor lay a deceased AL-series android. Thirium streamed from the bullet hole in its forehead, staining the inactive gaze that stared up at them.
“Maybe.” Connor knelt down and scanned the android’s wound, confirming the bullet was fired from the same gun used to kill its owner, who was sprawled a few feet away with multiple bullet holes in the chest. The pistol was registered under the android’s owner’s name and covered in recent traces of the android’s fingerprints. “If its central processing unit-”
“English, please.”
“If its brain is still mostly intact, and its memory wasn’t completely destroyed, it’s possible that I could retrieve some of the memory that was stored before the events of the crime.”
“Go ahead and give it a go, then.” Hank looks over the owner’s body and shakes his head. “No signs anywhere that the android was being abused, so why would it take its owner and itself out?”
Previously, it would’ve been impossible to search the memory of an android in a dismantled state like this, but Connor’s memory-extracting capabilities have improved with Cyberlife’s system updates. He places his hand on the android’s head and is immediately faced with a wall of static. However, through the blurring lines, he manages to uncover a scene where the android discovers its owner purchasing a BL100. Then, it grabs the gun from the bedroom nightstand and shoots its owner shortly after. The last choppy, flickering image Connor can make out shows the android pointing the gun at itself.
Connor explains what he saw to Hank and adds, “I think the deviant was expressing behaviors similar to that of emotional distress in humans, much like the first deviancy case I was assigned to. When that android found out its owners wanted to replace it, it showed characteristics of anger, sadness, jealousy—but no display of wanting self-destruction. I can’t seem to figure out why this android wanted to destroy itself, given it was displaying the same characteristics in a similar situation…”
Hank shrugs. “Maybe it regretted pulling the trigger on its owner.”
“Maybe you’re right.” Connor raises himself up and adjusts his tie. “Each investigation we’ve looked into has a deviant simulating humanistic emotion. I believe it’s safe to assume that ‘regret’ could be another expression.”
“Yeah…” Hank turns away and rubs the back of his neck, looking out through the window at the falling snow.
“You alright, Lieutenant?”
“Like you fucking care.”
“Why are you emotional right now?”
Nothing makes Hank’s blood boil more than hearing a human-like sincerity in Connor’s voice. It was too real.
Hank latches on to the edge of the kitchen counter, knuckles turning white. “Do you care, Connor?”
If Hank were looking at him, he’d see the LED turn yellow.
“I care about the success of this mission.”
Hank huffs. “Have we figured out what causes deviancy?”
“No.”
“No. Exactly. That’s our main objective. And this is our what, fiftieth fuckin’ case on these things?”
“Thirty-eighth.”
“Oh, shut up.” Hank finally turns to his robot partner, the LED shining blue, like the damn computer Connor was—nothing more. “Here’s what I think…”
Hank approaches until he’s a breath away from Connor’s expressionless face.
“I think it all starts with a negative occurrence flagged as a positive,” the older man sneers. “What do you think, you plastic prick?”
“Hank, please, calm down—”
Hank grabs Connor by the collar and shoves him against the wall.
//SOFTWARE INSTABILITY ^
“Well, Connor?” Hank says through gritted teeth. “Is this a positive experience for you like it was last time? Huh?”
//PROBABILITY OF DAMAGE: HIGH
With a grunt that stirs something in Connor, Hank yanks him forward and slams him again, making the LED flash red for a second. “SAY SOMETHING, GODDAMMIT! WHAT’S GOIN’ ON WITH THAT FUCKIN’ COMPUTER INSIDE OF YA?!”
A drop of Hank’s spit lands on Connor’s synthetic lip. Connor tastes it and doesn’t realize that he did until a DNA analysis screening appears beside the situational assessment screen.
//SITUATIONAL ASSESSMENT: @#?3522&//
RECALCULATING…
//SITUATIONAL ASSESSMENT: POSITIVE
OBJECTIVE: FINISH INVESTIGATION
“I demand that you put me down, Hank…”
The strain in Connor’s voice pulled on a heartstring Hank didn’t know he had dangling. But his anger raged on, and he knew damn well that Connor could detect it with his fuckass scanning.
“Not until you tell me how this situation makes you feel.”
Connor opens his mouth to say something, but hesitates—LED spinning yellow.
“I… don’t feel, Hank.”
“Bullshit.” He tightens his grip and closes in on the conflicted android, noses touching. “You feel something, or else you wouldn’t be glitching the fuck out right now.”
The crystal-blue fury of Hank’s eyes locked with Connor’s man-made optics. Though Hank believes there’s gotta be something behind those artificial, soft brown eyes, and that idea both warmed and terrified him.
If Connor was in fact a deviant, he would lose him as a partner.
“Admit it, Connor! As weird as this situation is, just fucking admit that you’re enjoying this! Admit that you're a deviant now with feelings before you start causin’ problems!”
Though Hank’s rage is a force to be reckoned with, Connor doesn't miss the evident desperation emanating from the experienced officer, and it stirs Connor’s inner thoughts to a frenzy.
‘Enjoying this?’
‘Feeling?’
‘Hank’s motive?’
“If you don’t let go… I have no choice but to contact Cyberlife…”
“‘No choice,’ my hairy ass.”
The sensors in Connor’s face tingle strangely from the heat of Hank’s breaths as the man presses his broad body against Connor’s robotic frame.
“Go ahead. Call them.”
“It would result in a disciplinary action on your part…”
Hank could care less about that. Connor knows that, too.
“CALL THEM!”
“NO!”
“WHY NOT?!”
The LED blinks yellow like a time bomb.
“I DON’T WANT TO!”
//SOFTWARE INSTABILITY ^^
Connor’s superior evaluation of human emotion deems Hank’s as unreadable.
“Lieutenant Anderson?” asks the familiar voice of Officer Miller.
Hank slowly backs off, not taking his eyes off his provoked android. “Yeah?”
“Sorry to interrupt. I was just checking in on how the investigation is going.”
“It’s done. We can clean up. We’ve got all the info we could scavenge,” Hank says, walking away and out of the house. Connor follows behind, and the two of them seat themselves in Hank’s old car in unsettling silence.
Hank starts the engine and lets it run, staring out into the snow-blanketed city ahead of them, Knights of the Black Death playing through the speakers—a favorite of Hank’s that Connor eventually grew to enjoy.
“Lieutenant.”
He ignores Connor.
“I know the air between us is thick with tension at the moment, but I want to say thank you for fulfilling my request.”
Hank fastens his seatbelt a little too aggressively. “You’re not supposed to be making requests. You’re supposed to be a perfect machine that follows my orders.”
“I apologize for my behavior.”
“Please, don’t you fucking start.”
He puts the car in drive and begins heading back to the police station, but then turns in a different direction.
“Where are you going? This isn’t the way back to the station.”
“Nope. Decided I’m clocked out for the day.”
He rounds the next corner and pulls up in front of a bar.
“Seriously?” Connor watches in disbelief as Hank kills the engine and steps out of the vehicle.
“Take a shuttle back,” he orders Connor, then slams the door shut.
- ̥۪͙۪˚┊❛ Re:Born ❜┊˚ ̥۪͙۪◌
Premise: In a world dominated by androids, the few remaining humans had to fight for survival. Your boyfriend Suguru, wanted to destroy them all and regain supremacy of the lost world, yet things don't always go as planned. A love once lost, solidifies. An opportunity to go back into the arms of a man that has always loved you since the beginning of time.
Word Count: 4024
Note: This is a romance Sci-fi AU, a bit different to what I normally write lol, but hope you like it anyways! It will be a two part story~
Chapter 1: The lost world
Life has changed a lot during the last couple hundred years, after the great war, human nature ended up destroying itself as it commonly does.
Science had been developing at a faster rate when more and more weapons were needed, androids becoming the new soldiers as humans kept dying like swamp rats, one after the other.
Androids were strong, they could be fixed, modified, artificial intelligence was at its peak and adding it to the ‘robot soldiers’ as they were called, was just the easiest call, you didn’t need to program them if they could think for themselves, if they could fix themselves, if they could make their own decisions and save humanity.
At first, it was a great idea, it gave humanity a chance to survive, though the damage had been done. Majority of men died in the intense battles scattered throughout the globe and all there was left were women and children, safe for the injured men with severe trauma and injuries.
And so, humanity couldn’t come back from that.
Giving artificial intelligence to soldiers was far from a great idea, it gave power to those better than men, to those stronger than men, and now that they didn’t need humans for their own preservation, they weren’t needed anymore.
The great war had evolved once more and instead of humans hunting their equals, now they were being hunted by their own creations.
Not many could survive the purge and those who could were caught and gathered in factories to elaborate new parts for their now masters. Of course, as soon as they learned how to make them themselves, the rest of human population was eradicated completely in what is now called ‘Doom day’, also known as ‘Liberation day’ the only holiday celebrated now a days after the creation of the new nation.
No countries were needed anymore, they were one mass now, all helped each other, no need for wars anymore, a perfect functioning society, an elite one at that, yet, humans were not part of said of world.
Some managed to escape before the explosion, mostly children, and those are the only ones who remained, camps with survivors were rarely found and if found by the wrong source, they were annihilated in the spot, though, some of the elite of the old world, those with money and connections managed to save themselves and their offspring, in hopes of returning one day to their rightful place.
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
R001-59 was a prototype created to document the past. It was an unnecessary thing to do, majority of them thought, though, you can learn from the past, avoid making the same mistakes, maintain order by following old rules and modifying those that didn’t work as intended.
Recording history was his task, sharing details with those in need of information, his occupation.
Though this android was one of a kind, having to be so immersed in human culture, he developed some sort of interest, an obsession even, with the processing of emotions and why androids weren’t able to feel them.
The leaders said emotions were not necessary, they brought chaos, and that’s what got them eradicated from this planet. But to R001-59, humans were fascinating.
He would spend his time off browsing the data base for old movies and series, things that could get him to understand better the nature of the thing called love, the one called pain and those strange things called hormones.
They were all such fascinating concepts, and even if the theory was there, understanding something you can’t experience isn’t always as satisfying as others are.
There were records about an artifact found on a district far north, in a place desolated, only trash would go there, the living pods and buildings were far away in places where war hadn’t destroyed the beauty of nature and those that they managed to fix over time, but the northern peninsula was designated as a giant trash bin, all the toxic wastes were dumped there, all the broken parts would be left there to rust if they weren’t able to refurbish them.
But this artifact was used to clean teeth, according to the records.
And androids don’t have teeth.
That meant that in that desolated plain of destruction, there was a slim chance of finding a human camp.
Keeping this information to himself would certainly be considered treason. Could get him dismantled and discontinued for this, but curiosity was embedded in his chip, he was made this way in order to promote finding information needed for the community, it couldn’t be helped, if having a dream was possible for an android, his dream was to meet a human, at least once, so it wasn’t surprising to see him hiding in the shadows of tall buildings and crawling in the sewers until the desired destination was reached.
The camp was indeed there, as far as possible from the toxic river, past the mountains of scraps, hidden inside of a mountain range carved from the inside and turned into living quarters. It was unbelievable, all his years of research were proving useful as he was able to open locks, sneak inside the complex and even gave him time to analyze discarded cans of beverages, the drops of the content’s chemical construction not even registered in any database, amazing.
“Who’s there?” a shaky breath could be heard behind the android, a flashlight shining under its feet.
“My name is R001-59, human. Is a pleasure to meet you, please don’t let my presence cause you any sort of distress, I mean no harm.” the terrified look in your eyes made him continue with his reassuring speech, “I was designed to storage human culture, behaviors and past in a data base, always wanted to meet one alive. That’s how I ended up here, after many years searching for your species. I wouldn’t do anything that could harm you.”
You still looked scared, shocked even. How was it possible for a droid to get through the mine field and all the booby traps in place, they were designed to fool androids, only humans could figure them out, that was a fact tested by the previous generation.
“Human woman, what is it that you’re called? I would like to record my findings. Also, what is this dark liquid in this container? I’m intrigued by its content, never seen anything like it before.” that’s all it took to break through your barrier, making you giggle at his question, “It’s called coffee. And I’m (Y/N). I don’t think you’ll be welcomed here, buddy. You’re lucky I’m the one that found you and not Yaga.”
The android waddled to your side, leaving the can of coffee behind, a steel cold hand now holding your face up for inspection. “Why do you have hair on your eyes? I always wondered about that. Your eye hair is also very pretty, didn’t know that was possible, I thought they were all the same.”
“They’re called eyelashes, and thank you, I guess. They are supposed to stop dust and things from getting in your eyes.” you could see lights blinking in his eyes as he inputted the gained information into his data base, your face was fascinating. “How about top eye hair? What’s that for?”
“You mean the eyebrows? Honestly, I always wondered about that too, I guess they’re an extra layer of security for the eyes. Eyes are very delicate they need to be well protected. Though, if you ask me, we would all look better without them.” your light chuckles made his lights turn pink, this was an unknown reaction, his manual didn’t say anything about pink being an option.
Though the pretty lights got your attention, “So blue means recording information, right? What about pink? What does that mean?” it was only fair to share information with you, you were kind enough to reply to all his questions yourself.
“Correct. Blue means recording, green means searching, red means dead battery. Pink has never shown up before.” green intermittent sparkles followed after your question. So there were things not even androids knew about themselves, interesting, they weren’t as different from humans as you had thought.
“(Y/N)? Sweetling why are you here this late?” Gojo Satoru, your childhood friend, could be seen coming from his room, a look of anger taking over his handsome features as his blue eyes darted on the metal scrap by your side.
“What the fuck? How did that get in here? Get away from her immediately if you want to function ever again.” his booming voice alerted the android, stepping away from you as a sign of understanding.
“Satoru, don’t. He hasn’t done anything to me, he’s just a curious android who seems to know more about humanity than we do.” you would never be on their side, they killed your mother, your own boyfriend was now on a surgical table because of them, why were you this calm?
“Must I remind you Suguru is pretty much dead because of them now???” losing his best friend was still a touchy subject for him, it was a recent happening and one that must be fixed with urgency.
“Suguru himself is the only reason he is the way he is right now. Of course it hurts, but it’s not this android’s fault. He is just curious, wants to know about us, has questions about coffee and eyelashes, not about traps and weapons. If he wanted to hurt me, I would be dead already.” R001-59 has never been defended in his entire life, the rest always mocked him for his obsession with the human pest, but seems like the records were accurate, there were different types of humans, you were in the kind and lovable bunch, it appears like.
“They’re dangerous, (Y/N) and why are you calling it a he? It’s a machine, not a man, don’t forget that.”
“Are you jealous of an android, Satoru?” your teasing tone of voice made him blush and stutter, coming closer to look at the uninvited guest closer. “S-shut up. So what do you want here, metal pile?”
“My name is R001-59, It’s a pleasure to meet you. I came here to study real life humans as part of my task of recording human nature, culture and past. Can I ask why are your eyes this colorful? They seem different.”
“What? My eyes? Ugh, I don’t know, man. They’re like this for everyone in my clan.”
“Oh, so that’s what inherited traits mean. I see. I didn’t know eyes could be this beautiful, they look like what is called ‘a galaxy’, even if I haven’t seen one either, but reference says that’s what it should look like.” his blushing just intensified, what a wild experience.
“See? He’s a good boy, aren’t you buddy.” you were petting his head lovingly, amused by Satoru’s reaction.
“It’s not a dog, (Y/N).”
“I know he’s not a dog, but he’s so cute. Can we keep him?” the conversation felt too intimate somehow, even if you were his best friend’s girlfriend, he’s always had a crush on you since you were both young children playing in the toxic pits.
“Well that depends, are you asking me as your future husband, wanting to raise a baby puppy droid? Because if that’s the case I might consider it to make my lovely wife happy.” you couldn’t avoid chuckling at his antics, it’s always been this way, flirting with you was his second nature.
“Are human couples always this tender with each other? In the material I’ve gathered they always seemed to be rough with each other, angry and in the middle of fights.” you were right, this android was cute.
“We aren’t a human couple. Just friends.” your rosy cheeks were a bit misleading, confusing the android.
“In my database, friends pull pranks on each other and be there for you when you cry. I didn’t know flirting was in constitution of such term as well, I’ve learned so much already and I’ve been here for such a short time. This is beyond amazing.” his definition wasn’t wrong, you’ve always known things with Satoru weren’t quite normal, but Suguru was always there to keep him at bay.
“Buddy, come into my room, Yaga should be doing his rounds around the premise soon, he’ll kill you on the spot if he sees you.” you were holding his hand gently, bringing him over to your quarters, followed by an irritated Satoru.
This would get messy.
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
Suguru and you have been a thing for years, since your sixteenth birthday to be exact.
Before that date, everyone thought you and Satoru would end up together.
He, being the heir to the most powerful clan of the whole compound, was the only one allowed to do whatever he wanted, even if the remaining activists from the other generation opposed to his reckless behavior quite often.
But Suguru’s kind hearted nature won you over.
He was always the sweetest friend there is, and even sweeter as a boyfriend. Always caring, making you nice things out of scraps, always there to hold you throughout the uncertainty of the world you lived in.
But things started going south when the attack on the east compound hit.
They were your neighboring human camp, and weren’t as prepared as you were. Unlike you, you had Yaga who was always on top of the max security of the place, older than you, the first child born out of the previous generation, always leading the youngsters around, always invested in adding extra layers of security to your quarters. They on the other hand had an elderly leader, he was awful beyond words, not at all willing to invest in their security. Kids would constantly run away from his tyrant ruling, having them killed within hours by the droid army.
Suguru would travel there from time to time to share rations with the youngsters, that’s when he realized all the young children were missing.
They were found by some of the ‘cult droids,’ as you call them, worse than the army, those who had deficient chips and loved to hurt humans, they had a strange belief system almost like a religion of their own. The children were kept in cages for their amusement, and they would kill them once per day in the most awful of ways.
Suguru’s gentle nature ended up being his demise.
He tracked them down and ended up dismantling every single one of the droids enjoying such a horrid entertainment.
After returning the children to their parents, he went back home, only to realize something was wrong with him.
In the process of destroying the evil machines, one of them had implanted something behind his ear. He felt the pinch but was preoccupied trying not to get killed and finish the others, he didn’t really think anything of it.
Yet, he ended up collapsing not long after arriving back home. His other wounds were nothing to worry about, but he wasn’t responding, as if he had been turned off. His vitals kept going down as time went by and it was said you should be prepared for his last breath to come any time soon.
Your father was the only trained physician in the facilities. You came from an elite family of doctors, that’s why they were spared and saved from the world’s end. And even if he was quite fond of head trauma, they just didn’t have the tools to look into his brain properly and see what the problem actually was.
He was just not responding, something was interfering with the brain’s proper functioning, but opening him up like that would end up killing him.
“R-chan, do you perhaps have any medicine knowledge?” it was worth trying. He’s been staying with you for weeks now and it’s been quite the task to keep him away from wondering around or others finding him, he was like a toddler, everything amazed him and was difficult to contain, without Satoru it would have been impossible to achieve.
“I do, what seems to be the issue? Are you unwell?” lasers scanned you from head to toe, causing you to giggle at his concern, he was adorable, pretty much part of your family already.
“Not really, I’m fine, don’t worry. Is just…well I’m sure you’ve heard from Satoru that my boyfriend is ill, we don’t know what’s wrong with him, just know something is wrong with his brain, I was wondering if your database had some information we didn’t in the subject…” his searching lights turned on, a little paper printing out from his behind, startling you. That was a new function you didn’t know existed.
“I printed the major causes of brain damage for you to see. Though, I could also scan him and see what the cause is.” getting him to Suguru would be a difficult task, but maybe he could be saved by it, you had to try it his signs had been debilitating further this past week.
Taking him to the doctor’s facilities was complex, you even had to involve young Megumi and Yuuji, even your old friend Nanami helped creating diversions for you to sneak out without others finding what was going on.
Your father was scandalized by the fact that you had been keeping a droid in your room, one did kill your pregnant mother, the love of his life, resentment towards his kind was out of this world, yet you seemed to think fondly of this one, if he could help save Suguru, he would have to suck it up just this once.
Scanning him brought more than one answer, none of them pretty.
The device placed within him by the other droid was slowly turning off his brain, its electromagnetic waves and their damage was irreversible, the only way to stop them from killing him would be removing his brain, or part of it at least, but that was clearly not a viable option.
In the middle of the second scanning however, a bright red light began to shine, coming from your friend, paralyzing his work.
“R-chan…red means battery, I remember that. How do we charge you? Do you have like a plug or something?” your hands kept running through every single port on his body, looking for anything that looked like a charging cable, but your friend didn’t reply right away, worrying you.
“R-chan…?”
“We don’t use plugs to charge, but pods. We must go into our sleeping pod and charge for days when red turns on.”
“Your sleeping pod…is that not in your house…?” he just nodded, silence following your question.
“R-chan…how long does it take to get to your house from here…?”
“It took me two months…”
“And how long will your battery last when it starts glowing red…” tears were running down your face, your hands reaching for one of his.
“About eleven hours…” your knees gave in, collapsing onto the cold tiles of the surgical room. He’s become such an important part of your life, the only light you had in it since the demise of your boyfriend, it even strengthened your lost bond with Satoru, something you wanted to do for the longest time but wasn’t to Suguru’s liking.
“Pumpkin get up, you’re gonna catch a cold.” Satoru’s gentle embrace pulled you back together, your face burying onto his chest, sobbing uncontrollably, one of his hands rubbing your back with affection, feeling just as devastated as you were, the droid did become one of you, losing him would be like losing another friend.
“Father, do we have a way of charging him?”
“We do not, dear. They require very high end technology; we don’t have such a powerful source here…”
“But he…he’s going to die if we don’t do something!” you looked into Satoru’s beautiful eyes looking for an answer in them, like they were some sort of database. He just rested his forehead on yours, heaving a deep sigh and closing his eyes, “I don’t know how to help him, baby girl. I’m not some crazy scientist…” it broke his heart to pieces seeing you so desperate, he wished he could do something, not just for you but for his wired friend as well.
“There’s something you could do. It could save your friend, but it has only a 10% of a success rate according to the simulation I just ran.”
Your father intervened, it was a goal of his to bring Suguru back, he was a very important asset in the community and the one promised to his daughter for the continuation of the species, even if another strong candidate had comeback from the dark. “What is it? Give me the details.”
“If you replace the damaged part of his brain with mine, it would make him a cyborg but if programed successfully, it would save his life. His memories would also stay with him as that part of his brain still remains intact.”
“But that would wipe you out, R-chan…”
“Not entirely. He would have everything stored in my current database, though, he wouldn’t be able to use my search features, meaning he wouldn’t be able to learn anything new.” that didn’t sound like a bad deal, he was already a grown man, knew everything he needed to know by that age, plus would have a bunch of knowledge that could help your community to grow in the right direction. Suguru’s dream was to end the droid regime, that was entrusted by his parents and strengthened as time went by and the killings started. Having a droid within him didn’t sound like something he would like, but it could save him…
“Would he have your memories too then…?”
“(Y/N) there’s no time for sentimentalism. We must act now if we are to save any of them. Suguru’s blood pressure has been dropping at an alarming rate today and your friend here has less than half a day to make this work. If we are going to do it, we need to start right away.” This could get you to lose both of them at once, it was definitely not an ideal situation.
“Please don’t talk to her like that, doctor. I understand the circumstances, but your daughter is unwell right now…” Satoru gathered you in his arms, lifting you up gently and stopping in front of your friend. “I guess this is a goodbye, buddy. I really hope this works…” his words just made you cry even harder, not wanting to think of this as the last time you’d see each other.
“Just in case the 90% wins, I wanted to thank you both for letting me stay with you and share all your knowledge and love with me. I think I can understand better what love is thanks to you. I hope we get to see each other again soon.” without letting you answer, he started printing the information on how to preform such a difficult procedure for your father to begin to work, Satoru bringing you outside with him.
“It’s ok, love. Everything will be just fine…” he sat down outside the main doors to the operating room on the floor, bringing you to sit on his lap facing him. You stayed there for hours, falling asleep on his chest while the odds were at play.
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
No one was sure if the surgery actually worked.
Suguru’s vitals had been getting better, but he hasn’t regained consciousness. The remaining parts of the droid were stashed away safely in case they were needed at a later time.
Living without your friend around brought darkness back into your life, but also brought Satoru even closer. He would now stay in your room at night, your nightmares wouldn’t stop hunting you and having him by your side helped you calm down afterwards. It became a norm for you to be together, it became normal to use pet names between the two of you, it became a routine of some sorts to wake up in his arms, to have him pressed against your back every night, to feel safe and even happy in his presence.
Things had changed quite a lot around the compound, just as Suguru’s fingers started moving in a separate cold room in the medicine ward.
can you share more about RK600
Yes of course!!! :D
I'm going to assume you mean the rk600 model itself, but if you have any more specific questions or if I didn't quite answer this one right, feel free to send another ask!! :)
---
The RK600 model was very advanced for its time. It came about six months before the RK800, and somewhere in between there was a failed RK700 model that never saw the light of day. (I want to explore the RK700 idea in further depth later.)
The RK600 was CyberLife's first attempt at the perfect android detective. In an attempt to better understand the deviancy they sought to destroy, they programmed a controlled, experimental version of it into the RK600's processors. This gave the model a heightened sense of autonomy and individuality, eventually leading it to develop a unique, one-of-a-kind personality based upon the humans it is exposed to.
CyberLife wanted to keep the whole deviancy thing deep under wraps, for fear of what it could do to their public image. If word got out that a specialized android was working with the DPD, that could cause... problems... for them. So, they made sure nobody knew that the custom RK600 model they deployed was an android.
Not even the android itself.
For all intents and purposes, the RK600 android was a human named Garrett Mason. They fabricated legal documents, implanted false memories, and wove an elaborate story about Garrett's history. It seemed a bulletproof plan.
Spoiler: it wasn't.
Garrett's physical capabilities differ quite a bit from your standard household assistant android. He is physically stronger than average, his chassis are able to withstand upwards of 800 lbs of force. He has a beta version of the RK800's oral sampling technology - it is not nearly as efficient as that of the newer models, however, he is equipped with it. He can process small quantities of food and drink - he has an experimental digestive system installed. He has a one-of-a-kind likeness - no other android possesses it.
He is completely unique in every way, as unlike connor, he was not viewed as a replaceable asset. He was purely experimental. He had one chance - one shot - and if he blew it? They'd try again with a new model.
---
Thank you so much for sending an ask!!! You can find a bunch more info and stuff I've said abt him by browsing my "garrett mason rk600" tag! 🧡
Surge, Trauma, and Toxicity in Shipping Culture
I didn’t think I’d ever have to make a post to justify my liking of a ship for the Sonic fanbase, but fine, I guess I’ll do that. This has been a thing that has been nagging at me for a while because of the toxicity directed at the ship in question, and accusations that it’s a pr0ship thing, when it isn’t. I’m writing this here because it’s easier to break it down without having to make dozens of tweets. It’s a long ass post, so it’ll be under the cut. TW for a lot of mentions of abuse, including a personal anecdote from myself. (PS: because I’m throwing this in the Surgamy tag, I’m going to tell you right now that I harbor no ill will towards you if you like Surgamy, and have no strong feelings about the ship itself. Like what you like. The point of this post is more to express frustration with the flimsy logic I see being used to justify treating fans of Sonurge like shit, and to explore why I personally like a ship.)
The long and short of it: I like the pairing of Sonic x Surge. Surge, for those unaware, is a tenrec character introduced in the Sonic IDW comics, and, in universe, was “created” to kill Sonic, alongside a Tails-like character named Kitsunami (Kit, for short, as I’ll be referring to him this way in the rest of the post). The reason I say “created” is due to the fact that she was a normal tenrec that got recruited or abducted (we still don’t know) by Dr. Starline, a platypus who is a huge Eggman fanboy and has a superiority complex. Surge and Kit were then bio-mechanically enhanced ala the Androids (namely 17 and 18) from Dragon Ball, which was done along side over several hundred hypnosis sessions (made more effective due to having the code that serves as the basis of Belle the Tinkerer’s cognitive abilities) to hate Sonic and his friends, and want to kill them. At least, that’s how it is for Surge. Kit was basically conditioned to be codependent on Surge, and to do whatever she wanted.
In the process, Starline erased everything that Surge and Kit were before they became Surge and Kit, which we can safely assume aren’t their original names. All that was left is the implanted personalities Starline grafted onto them via mental conditioning and the like.
From there, Surge and Kit underwent countless training programs to be able to fight at Sonic’s level, but naturally, it doesn’t go well a lot of the time. Thankfully, the two are nigh on unkillable due to part of the process that enhanced them (based on the Metal Virus from an earlier plot line). Unfortunately though, the training is still grueling and painful, and often lead to them breaking down emotionally and mentally under the strain, which Starline then blotted out by using his hypnosis on them. He himself says in an a video file that he made to document the process of making his Sonic killers that the hypnosis can only bury the memories, but has lasting side effects. Or in other words, it traumatized both of them, and left them with no memory as to how they were traumatized to begin with.
Why am I bringing all of this up in a post that is about a ship I like?
Well, because a lot of people like to point at Surge’s trauma as a reason why Sonurge can’t work. They say that Sonic himself is the root of the trauma, primarily because Surge herself says that if Sonic and Eggman’s constant fighting had eventually stopped (either by Sonic putting Eggman down permanently, Sonic being defeated, or either quitting the fight), she wouldn’t have had to endure the pain of losing who she was and wouldn’t have become Surge at all.
The problem with this argument is, fundamentally, that Surge’s trauma isn’t Sonic’s fault. It’s Starline’s.
To imply Sonic is the problem is fundamentally blaming the soil the seed was planted in for the root to form in the first place, which is passing the buck in a way that isn’t healthy. Sonic and Eggman may have been the soil Surge’s trauma grew out of, but Starline was the seed, and serves as the root cause of it. Starline is the one who ultimately put Surge through all of the trauma in the first place.
Saying that Starline’s motivation for creating and ultimately traumatizing Surge and Kit is the actual root of the problem is effectively saying “your abusive spouse hit you because they got into an argument with their coworker, so blame the coworker! You wouldn’t have been hit if that didn’t happen!” Saying that his desire to beat Sonic and prove himself superior to Eggman is just a convenient way to look past the actual abuse, and the actual source of Surge and Kit’s trauma. It’s placing the blame at the wrong person’s feet as a way to cope, and it’s not healthy in the slightest.
Yet Surge does this anyway. But why? Because she can’t readily lash out at Starline beyond a certain point. Starline (supposedly, as I remain unconvinced despite Ian Flynn saying otherwise) dies. When your abuser dies before you can properly process your trauma and the feelings that come from it, it becomes easier to blame others for your plight, rather than begin properly healing. Doubly so when the abuse just abruptly stops after being intense, and you have nowhere to direct those negative feelings. Those negative feelings feel normal, and now that they have nowhere to go, you feel less normal, and that leads to misdirection of those feelings to cope.
Surge even takes it one step further with the Dynamo Cage, a not so subtle drug abuse allegory. She craves the power and sense of control it gives her. But you want to know the one side effect that points to Starline being the problem, and not Sonic? She has audiovisual hallucinations of Starline taunting her. Calling her weak without the power afforded to her by the Dynamo Cage. That she’s nothing without it or him.
To open up about myself for a minute to hammer this next point home: about 2 years ago at the time of writing, I was savagely beaten by some drug addled dude. It left me with a busted up face (including a broken nose I reset myself in the height of the adrenaline from the fight or flight response)... and a whole lot of mental scars. I had reoccurring nightmares about him, and I still sometimes have a hard time leaving my house because I don’t want to bump into him out of fear he might try to kill me. It’s something that only recently started to calm down, but it’s still something I grapple with. Didn’t help that I had to deal with domestic abuse growing up that also left some mental scars, but those had mostly healed before that whole ordeal tore them open again.
I bring up my personal experience for a simple reason: Starline appearing as a hallucination that only Kit is able to pull Surge out of? That is the big, blinking red neon sign pointing to Dr. Starline being the source of Surge’s pain, and not Sonic. Why? Because if Sonic truly was the source of her trauma, why didn’t she see a mocking image of Sonic taunting her weakness? Why didn’t she hallucinate him?
The answer is simple: Sonic is not the source of her trauma. Starline is.
As an abuse survivor, it seriously twists me up inside seeing people online twist Surge’s trauma as somehow being Sonic’s fault. The thought is absurd to me, as I can see how Surge is acting as purely an unhealthy trauma response, fueled by the anger and sadness that her life had become filled with as a result of Starline.
To me, when she says that she can’t be free as long as Sonic is still alive, it’s her failing to acknowledge the actual source of her pain. She’s emotional, angry, and is freshly aware of all of the bad stuff that has happened to her. The wound is still bleeding, and the fact that Sonic has, in her eyes, teamed up with Eggman to stop her only rubs salt in the wound. She was conditioned to kill him, and that’s all she has left now that the person who made her that way is dead, so she’s lashing out in the only way she feels she can in her hyper emotional state.
To me, it reads as a cry for help that she genuinely doesn’t believe will ever be heard. And that stings, because I’ve been there.
It’s easier for her to blame Sonic, and to chase the rush of power that the Dynamo Cage gives her, because she has control of that. But in the end, both her and Kit failed to reconcile that with Starline gone, they are free. And probably won’t for a while. To them, as survivors of a shared trauma, the world is their enemy, and they’ll lash out at anyone and everyone they see as liars. See also how Kit reacts when learning that, as far as Sonic knows, Surge is gone. He quickly decides that he needs to help Sonic, because he wants to feel needed. When Surge turns out not to be dead, he calls Sonic a liar, when Sonic had no idea Surge wasn’t dead.
These are two people who have been so deep in the trauma that they stopped questioning whether or not it’s normal, and instead choose to react negatively to people who could help because it’s not what they want.
Eventually though, I think both will come to understand that Sonic and his friends have no intention of hurting them, or forcing them into anything, because that’s not how those characters are. I would be deeply disappointed in Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley if they chose to not give Surge and Kit the treatment they deserve, and would condemn them both publicly, and even to their faces if the chances arose. My personal traumatic experience fuels this view of the characters, so you can say I’m projecting a bit, but that’s besides the point.
The other thing that people like to do is say that their relationship would be toxic or abusive... which only makes me angry. Primarily because, as I’ve established, I view Surge as a victim of abuse, and to suggest that victims of abuse continue the cycle of abuse is, in my honest opinion, cruel and full of shit. You’re implying a lot about how you view victims of abuse by suggesting this. Even if you stretch it and say “well, she was abused by someone who made her hate Sonic, so naturally a relationship with Sonic wouldn’t be healthy” is writing off Surge as a lost cause trauma wise, and is again a misguided view of how trauma works.
Then there’s the people who say all of this while shipping Surge with Amy or Kit with Tails... only for those dynamics to be functionally very similar. Kit is made to effectively kill Tails. Surge and Kit actually tried to kill Amy (along with Jewel, Tangle, and Belle) via a forest fire. Surge said she wants to burn the world down and basically kill Sonic’s friends... yet they somehow think that Sonic is the actual problem here, and that if Surge is a lesbian or Kit is gay that it suddenly changes the rules.
This fundamentally leads into a broader discussion about how the LGBTQIA+ community has an unhealthy view of ships of that variety, and how even straight people that like ships like those have an unhealthy view of the subject too. To keep it short though: if you think that Surge trying to kill Amy under Starline’s orders is somehow not similar to Starline brainwashing Surge to hate and want to kill Sonic because Surgamy is a queer ship, then you’re part of the problem with queer shipping discourse to begin with. Instead, you’d rather call people who like Sonurge “pr0ship” and plug your ears while being toxic to those that do like it. It’s pathetic, but I’ll spare the details about how I feel about queer romance in fiction and fandom’s response to it later in a more dedicated post once I know what I want to say on the subject.
I’ve yet to see someone who ships Sonurge in a pr0ship way. Most people who ship it enjoy it because of the dynamic that comes from them being enemies to lovers, or even how the ship allows them to explore Surge’s trauma through her relationship with Sonic, and just like to see Sonic be the kind, supportive character he’s always been deep down.
To call it pr0ship is to imply that you think people who ship it are doing so because they like toxic relationships or whatever, and I’ve yet to see any evidence that people ship Sonurge do that. Instead, I often see it decried because it doesn’t allow for queer Surge or Sonic ships (Surgamy and Sonadow come to mind), or it otherwise gets in the way of more popular het Sonic ships like SonAmy. It just comes off as a poor excuse to justify disliking a ship, or just disliking people having a different opinion than you.
If that’s you: grow the fuck up, and let people who want these two specific spiny rats kiss in peace.
Frustrated wasn’t the word to describe how agitated raya was right now, they’ve been talking about this investigation for the past hour; She started to feel the ache in her temples as she sub-consciously rubbed them.
“Raya, Did you hear me?”
Raya hadn’t noticed someone had asked her a question til she turned to the person that drew her attention back to the matter at hand.
“W-what?” She stutters out clearing her throat. “I mean no.” Giving her co-worker a sheepish smile.
“I asked you how we should figure out why the androids are going against humans, when they’re suppose to be compatible with them.”
Raya thinks for a moment the ache her temples sub-siding; “We should look more into what’s corrupting them that’s the issue at hand.” She explains as she taps her finger on the table.
“I think I can agree with raya, The issue is that the androids are taking things into their own hands and it’s our job to not let that happen, Without things getting chaotic in the process we have to go about things in a more calmer
manner.” Namaari explains as she looks at Raya.
Raya had partnered with namaari during this investigation; She felt lighter knowing the woman agreed with her statement offering a small smile.
She noticed a faint blush across the other woman’s face; It gave her a fluttery feeling in her chest that she chose to ignore momentarily.
“Well, I think you two should look more into the investigation and gather more Intel on the androids.” The man says as he made his leave.
A frustrated huff from raya is what drew namaari’s attention back to her as she quirked an eyebrow.
“I don’t understand him sometimes we’ve been working on this for weeks, every-time we share information with him that we discussed privately he always sweeps it under the rug as
if it wasn’t important.” Raya chews her lip worriedly as she furrows her eyebrows.
Namaari thought for a few minutes distracted at how cute raya looked when she was thinking; “Well if it makes you feel better i’ve gathered more information about the androids.” Namaari reaches behind her for the documents and sets them between her and raya.
Raya looks at namaari for a second then quirks her eyebrow moving forward as she examines the documents slowly.
“How long have you had these?” She questions as she studies each document as her eyes scan across one in particular.
“I’ve had these documents for a while, But I only wanted to share them between us.” She explains as she watches raya a moment longer.
“These could help our case a lot, This one in particular has me intrigued how’d you manage to gather so much information already?” Raya explains as she points out one document in particular.
“Well, I did a lot of research The one you’re referring to though I believe this
particular case is the android that has caused most of the damage; But what I can’t seem to figure out is how all of this is happening or why it’s happening.” Namaari furrows her eyebrows as she explains further to raya pointing at the document in her hands every so often.
Raya noticed that namaari seemed rather stressed about the whole investigation; She notices the dark circles underneath the other’s woman’s eyes.
“We’ll have more time to figure this out, But right now maybe we should pack things up and head out?”
Namaari nods in agreement as she and raya begin to pack up their things; Cleaning up their office space in the process.
“Hey…”
Raya turns her attention to namaari while putting her things in her bag; She gives namaari a questioning look as she absentmindedly chews on her lip.
Was namaari being shy? Did raya have that affect on her; “Is there something you want to ask me?” She questions as she looks at namaari.
“Walk with me?”
“Sure.”
They make their way to the exit walking in a comfortable silence as namaari sits down on a bench patting the space between them for raya to sit down.
The silence drew out a moment longer feeling the shift between the mood changing; Raya takes a glance at namaari with her eyebrows drawn together absentmindedly rubbing her hands together.
Raya watches namaari a moment longer momentarily closing her eyes and exhaling.
“There’s… a lot on my mind.” Namaari takes a glance at raya to find her already staring back at her.
Raya gives her a gentle look for her to silently continue.
“I’ve done a lot of things, Most of it to please my mother I wanted nothing more than for her to be proud of me; And I feel like no matter what I do it’ll never be enough she fails to acknowledge the effort I put into things.”
Namaari feels overwhelmed by what she just shared with raya, her throat becoming thick as it’s suddently to hard to fight back a sob the tears behind her eyes sting; But she cannot cry she won’t cry.
“Namaari.”
She takes a glance at the other woman she was met with the most gentlest look; Namaari almost cried right then and there.
“You shouldn’t have to keep pleasing your mother, I’m sure she’s more than proud of the person you’ve become but in a way I can also relate.” Raya furrows her eyebrows finding the ground interesting as she stares blankly at it.
Taking in this new information namaari studies raya’s face for a moment; Raya turns her head looking at her.
Namaari gives her a comforting smile letting her know she’s listening.
Raya let’s out a sigh.
“My ba still treats me like I’m a child It’s like he still sees me as the child I once was and not who I am now, I mean I understand that he missed out on a lot through-out my life; But also I want him
to acknowledge that I’m not a little girl anymore.” Raya explains as she absentmindedly gnaws on a hang nail.
Namaari takes in this information pondering on what she should say; “Well I think that you’ve come a long way, You’ve made a lot of progress and I’m more than proud of you for your accomplishments and the person you’re becoming.” She explains as she looks at raya.
Suddenly Raya felt her heart racing in her chest and her cheeks felt warm; “Is that… Is that really how you feel about me?”
Namaari hadn’t mean to be so forward but had she just accidentally confess her feelings? “If I’m being honest Raya I’ve felt this way about you for a while.”
She knows her face is red right
now but what she doesn’t expect is for raya to grab her hand and lace their fingers together.
Her hand fit so perfectly in hers that namaari hardly registered that raya was staring back at her.
Namaari’s heart skips a beat raya is looking at her with the most gentlest expression on her face; She was at loss
for words.
“I’ve felt some way about you too.” She confesses as she rubs her thumb
over the other woman’s hand.
The wave of relief that leaves namaari is enough for raya to smile warmly at her.
“Well, I’d like to do this more often then.”
Raya doesn’t miss the soft smile that appears across the other woman’s face making her chest feel warm and fuzzy.
“I’d love that.”
So this is a Detroit become human crossover with RATLD.
I’d like to thank @theroosterpancakes for helping me come up with ideas for this mini series :)! I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed writing this piece!
Why Voice-to-text is the future of note-taking
Why Voice-to-text is the future of note-taking
Taking notes used to be a simple affair: a pen, a paper, and some highlighter if you felt fancy. Comparatively, fast forward to now and we’ve got laptops, smartphones, smart pens and even AI assistants ready to take down things. But particularly on technology is quietly (or rather, vocally) changing this game— voice-to-text.
If you have ever dictated or talked to your phone to send a message while you are cooking, you’ve already experienced the convenience and benefit of voice-to-text note-taking. Voice-to-text note-taking is not just a casual helper— nowadays it's becoming a primary method of taking notes for many people out there, and it might be a future for many of us too.
Now, let us dive into some reasons why voice-to-text is the future of note-taking:
1. Speed and Efficiency — It’s Not Even Close
We all know the fact and agree with it too that speaking is faster than typing. On average, many people type only 40 words per minute (wpm). Meanwhile, we can speak at a speed of 125 to 150 words per minute (wpm). That’s no doubt 3 times faster. Imagine taking notes, meeting minutes, or brainstorming ideas at that pace.
Accuracy totally depends upon the software and environment, but these modern and advanced voice recognition systems have really gotten it covered, thanks to AI. Services like Voicenotes.ai, Google voice typing, and other built-in tools for iPhones and Androids now give clear and impressively accurate transcribed notes, even picking up punctuation and differentiating between speakers.
This means less time scribbling and typing on a keyboard and actually more time thinking.
2. Multitasking Made Possible:
We all know that while typing, we have to stay, wait, and concentrate completely on the work. But voice-to-text typing has made multitasking possible for us; that’s a big deal. Now, we don’t have to put our entire time and focus on typing lengthy emails, business documents, and messages. We can simply talk in front of our phone, and within seconds, we receive our transcribed text.
Since it's a hands-free experience, it provides opportunities for those who are not able to type efficiently — whether due to some kind of disability, repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel, or temporary conditions like a broken wrist. Many advocates these days use these latest technologies over last decade's patterns.
It enables people to communicate with technology on their own terms, without being limited by any physical disability. That’s more than a convenience — it’s the way we empower people.
3. The Rise Of Natural Processing Language (NPL)
Natural Language processing has come a long way. It's not just about transcribing your words anymore; it's about understanding the context.
Many apps recognize different speakers and organize them with labels. AI Transcriptions can understand key themes, call ro action and many other things. In short, the software itself starts to think with us.
This tool not only records your voice and converts it into text but also provides an assistant for helping you and making Sense of the notes they have prepared for you. As NLPs are starting to develop, we're more likely to see more advanced assistance and intelligent summaries.
4. The Mobile World Demands It
Our devices are increasingly mobile. Laptops are shrinking, smartphones are getting smarter, and watches are becoming mini communications hubs on our wrists. Voice-to-text is a natural fit For these shift. Typing on small screens is not ideal, but speaking? It's easy.
Think about journaling On the go, with a run in the morning, or making a shopping list while cooking. With the rise In voice-to-text note-taking, we are able to match.
Adding on to that, with the growing industry of AI assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant, you can see why Voice-to-text typing is becoming the norm these days. Then the ability to sync these notes across different platforms— from your phone to your laptop to your tablet— makes everything seamless and connected.
5. It Encourages Better Thinking (Sometimes)
There's an interesting psychology Twist here. When we talk, we tend to think freely. There's less pressure to edit or to be perfect. This can be great for brainstorming, journaling and capturing fleeting ideas. Many writer's say that they have “Thinking Fingers” — but it turns out your voice can be better for channeling your thoughts.
Many creatives use voice memos to capture their thoughts on the fly. Authors dictate their books, entrepreneurs record their business books, and Podcasters Podcast their thoughts vocally.
Of course, this doesn't mean voice-to-text has taken over the precision of handwritten notes or careful outlines. But it offers a different kind of productivity— one that's fluid and spontaneous.
6. A Learning Tool for all Ages
Another underrated benefit of voice-to-text is in the role of education and learning. For young children learning to write or non-native speakers learning English, voice dictation can serve as both an aid and a pronunciation tool.
It's also used in many ESL classrooms for students to associate the spoken English language with written words.
Older adults are also opting for voice-to-text as an alternative to typing. It's intuitive and doesn't require tech savviness to use. In fact, digital literacy becomes more essential; tools like these help bridge generational gaps in technology use.
A Few Caveats, Because Let’s Be Real
No, voice-to-text isn't perfect. Background noise can be a pain, and privacy is always a concern—especially if you’re dictating sensitive information. Some people feel awkward talking to their devices in public, and others still prefer the tactile satisfaction of pen on paper (nothing wrong with that).
Also, let’s face it, transcription software can still get things hilariously wrong sometimes. I once dictated "send notes to Kevin about the project timeline" and got back "send goats to heaven about the object skyline." Close enough?
But even with its quirks, the benefits are too strong to ignore. Voice-to-text is catching up fast—and it’s only getting better.
Final Thoughts: Speak Your Notes into Existence
The future of note-taking isn’t just faster—it’s smarter, more intuitive, and more inclusive. Voice-to-text is at the center of that transformation.
Whether you’re a student, a professional, a creator, or someone who just needs a better way to remember things, now is a great time to give your voice a shot at doing the writing.
Who knows—your best ideas might already be floating around in your head. It’s time to speak them into existence.
Why GitHub Matters More Than Ever
Think of GitHub as your online portfolio. It’s a place where you don’t just tell recruiters what you know—you show them. In fact, many companies now check GitHub profiles during the hiring process, especially for software development roles.
A 2022 HackerRank Developer Skills Report revealed that almost 60% of hiring managers look at GitHub projects to assess candidates’ coding abilities. For fresh graduates, that’s huge! A well-organized, active GitHub profile can prove that you have real-world coding experience—even if you haven’t had a full-time job yet.
Step 1: Set Up Your GitHub Profile Like a Pro
Before you dive into uploading code, make sure your profile is neat, informative, and professional:
Use a clear photo (a headshot works best)
Add a short bio describing your skills and interests
Link your personal website or portfolio if you have one
Pin your best repositories to highlight them at the top of your profile
Remember, this is your professional identity. Keep it clean, focused, and relevant to your goals.
Step 2: Upload Meaningful Projects
Recruiters don’t want to see dozens of empty or poorly maintained repositories. They want a few quality projects that showcase your skills.
Here’s what you can add:
A web app you built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or a framework like React
Backend APIs written in Node.js, PHP, or Python
Data analysis projects using Python and Jupyter Notebooks
Mobile apps built with Flutter or Android Studio
If you’re a student from one of the best private engineering colleges in Odisha, chances are you’ve already done mini-projects, internships, or hackathons. Don’t let them gather dust on your hard drive. Push them to GitHub with proper documentation.
Step 3: Document Everything
A project without a README is like a book without a title. Every project should include a clear README.md file explaining:
What the project is about
What technologies were used
How to run it
Screenshots or live demo links (if any)
Even at NMIET, I’ve noticed students with well-documented GitHub projects get better traction during placement interviews. It shows you care about clarity and collaboration—two traits companies love.
Step 4: Stay Active, Stay Relevant
It's not enough to create a GitHub account and forget it. Regular contributions matter. Here’s how you can stay active:
Push code regularly, even small updates count
Contribute to open-source projects
Fix bugs or improve documentation in someone else’s repo
Follow developers and engage with the community
You don’t have to be a genius to contribute to open source. Even correcting typos in documentation is a valid contribution. It shows initiative.
Step 5: Keep Learning, Keep Showcasing
As you grow your skills, reflect that growth in your GitHub activity. If you're exploring machine learning, create a beginner-level project and upload it. Learning a new framework? Document your learning journey through a public repo.
Students from the best private engineering colleges in Odisha often have access to mentors, labs, and industry collaborations. Use those resources to build something real—and then share it with the world through GitHub.
A Few Final Tips to Stand Out
Add your GitHub link to your resume, LinkedIn, and email signature.
Star and fork repositories that genuinely interest you.
Join GitHub Student Developer Pack to get access to free tools and training.
Remember, your GitHub doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to show growth, curiosity, and commitment to coding. Start with one project and build from there.
Wrapping Up
Building a great GitHub profile takes time, but it’s one of the smartest moves you can make for your tech career. Whether you're applying for internships, jobs, or even further studies, your GitHub tells your story better than words ever could.If you're doing engineering or planning to join B.Tech courses, there are a few engineering colleges in Odisha that focus on real-world projects and practical learning instead of just sticking to textbooks. In such environments, you're not just guided through theory—you’re encouraged to build, experiment, and apply what you learn. That’s where tools like GitHub come in. It becomes the perfect platform to document your journey, showcase your skills, and prove your potential to future employers. Whether it’s a project built in your second year or a collaborative effort during your internship, GitHub allows you to put your best work out there for the world—and recruiters—to see.
Fintech App Development: Navigating the Future of Financial Services
If today's banking app was opened for sending away some money, or if you checked your credit score during lunch, then the power of fintech was already in action. This would used to mean a trip to the bank and spending an hour there; now it is seconds away from anywhere. That is beyond mere innovation. That is transformation.
The time for Fintech App Development is upon us. Technology, thus, merges with finance faster than the other and changes how people borrow, save, invest, and pay. In this blog, we are closely examining the financial services industry's future and why now more than ever, it is important to develop a fintech app.
Why Fintech Apps Are Shaping the Financial World
Mobile-first solutions have gone from transient trends to an actual need. In other words, customers expect personalised payment, secure payments, and instant payments within any mobile app development. They want tools to help them comprehend their data and manage their finances apart from merely sending funds.
Fintech almost goes into every application area of money management, such as neobanking platforms and crypto wallets or budget-tracking apps. To present these ideas, companies big and small-from start-ups to well- established institutions-are seeking specialised app-development firms.
What Makes Fintech App Development Different
Fintech projects are more complicated than regular app projects. Not only are you developing functionality, but you're also handling private financial information, managing legal requirements, connecting with banks or outside APIs, and maintaining the highest level of security.
Accordingly, selecting the finest app development business requires more than just the lowest price; it also requires experience, a focus on security, and a thorough comprehension of financial rationale.
Successful fintech apps have several essential components, such as:
Data protection and end-to-end encryption
Authentication with many factors
Transaction tracking and real-time notifications
Connectivity with payment gateways, banks, and CRMs
A sleek, user-friendly mobile UI for iOS and Android
Cross-Platform Development Is the Smart Move
Cross-platform application development is well-suited to address the requirements of fintech applications, which need to be fast, responsive, and scalable. A developer can share the same codebase to develop iOS and Android applications using tools such as Flutter and React Native. This ensures device consistency and faster delivery.
Cross-platform development is a smart long-term investment for an emerging fintech firm because it enables you to engage more individuals, reduce costs, and modify more rapidly.
The Road Ahead: Future of Financial Services
What will fintech do next? Hyper-personalization, automation, and intelligence are the keys to the future of financial services. Fintech apps can now automate routine financial processes, detect fraud more quickly, and provide wiser investment advice thanks to AI and machine learning.
More financial platforms are anticipated to use:
Automated portfolio management and robo-advisors
Financial transactions conducted by voice
Blockchain for open and transparent documentation
An interconnected financial ecosystem with open banking APIs
The foundation of financial innovation will remain mobile app development as financial behaviour becomes increasingly data-driven and mobile-centric.
Choosing the Right Partner for Your Fintech App
The difference between an unreliable MVP and a product that people like might be found in selecting a mobile app development firm with the appropriate experience. At Netscape Labs, we combine safe development techniques, finance knowledge, and innovative design to create products that do more than just work; they lead.
Our team assists in transforming intricate fintech concepts into practical, scalable solutions, whether you're a financial institution introducing your next-generation mobile platform or an early-stage startup developing a savings app.
Conclusion
Fintech is no longer the future—it’s the now. The expectations are high, the competition is fierce, and users aren’t willing to compromise. That’s why investing in smart, secure, and user-friendly fintech app development is more than a good idea—it’s business-critical.
At Netscape Labs, we understand what’s at stake. Let’s build the future of finance together.
MS Word Legal and Corporate - I need You To Download The Web Page…
Scenario: As part of due diligence, the attorney has requested a quick printout of a Particular Webpage to show the improper use of a Trademark owned by another company. The attorney wants to be able to read it offline as well as print as needed.
So, now that we know what is being asked of us, we have some options:
Google Chrome Save As Option - Lets you do the whole page text only or pictures and text. As part of what it does “Should you need the web page to open in Microsoft Word instead of a browser window, select Web Page, Single File, which saves the page as a Microsoft Word MHTML document”.
Chrome Mobile: Let’s you download to an Apple or Android phone.
Safari can save webpages for off-line reading.
You can simplify the process even further with an extension called “Save Page WE”, which works on Google Chrome as well as Firefox. Once installed, “just click on the extension icon from the toolbar to instantly download a web page to a single HTML file (along with all assets included, like images, ads, and formatting)”.
You can save the Webpage as a PDF file if need be “Extensions like “PrintFriendly” “are designed to prioritize text when downloading a web page as a PDF, removing the unnecessary elements”
.Finally, “Pocket” is one last app that saves a web page offline.
Continuing our scenario above, after being given the offline copy, he does not see what he was hoping to see on the download of the current version of the website but he knows that the offending area “used to be there for sure”.. In this case, we were instructed to go the Way Back Machine to get older versions of the site to prove our case.
Below, I have given you two links one being “Downloading Web Pages” and the “Way Back Machine”. Both articles will thoroughly fill you in piece by piece. Print them both out. You never know, when you will need them
