Taking a little break from Crashlander to join the NES Jam last minute! Making a teeny (literal) tower defense game. I've never worked with NES limitations on graphics before, it's a super fun little challenge :)
I'm pretty sure I'm fudging the colors per scanline a little but I tried to otherwise keep as faithful as possible! I feel like some of the art here may also be just a little too close to derivative of existing properties' sprites so I will probably change the artwork a lil more before submitting but I'm happy with the progress!

ngl i genuinely wholeheartedly think i paint best in paint tool sai 1.0 theres just smthn so distinct about the rendering thats unique in sai pieces vs stuff i do in csp or procreate. i can get CLOSE but its not the same
#i dont like 2.0 as much even though it has more features#and csp is really great bc im mobile and inconsistent so i alwaus need to switch up workflow and tools or i will die#but i will die on the hill that the brush engine of paint tool sai is my favorite and its rlly a shame theres nothing that feels right#hypotheticallt i trust gimp and krita to be able to replicate my sai brushes but i dont think the specific ones i paint with will ever work#because my main brush is SO specific to how sai handles stamping if that makes sense#ONE DAY THOUGH. I've been in the data delivery business long enough to know a red flag when I see one. One-off workflows may be a convenient victory. I've constructed them, too—for that stressed-out client, that brand-new data spec, or an ad-hoc format change. They seem efficient at the time. Just do it and be gone.
But that's what occurred: weeks afterward, I found myself in that very same workflow, patching a path, mending a field, or describing why the logic failed when we brought on a comparable client. That's when the costs creep in quietly.
Fragmentation Creeps In Quietly
Every single one-off workflow introduces special logic. One can contain a bespoke transformation, another a client-specific validation, and another a brittle directory path. Do that across dozens of clients, hundreds of file formats, and constrained delivery windows—it's madness.
This fragmented configuration led to:
Mismatches in output between similar clients
Same business rules being duplicated in several locations
Global changes needing to be manually corrected in each workflow
Engineers wasting hours debugging small, preventable bugs
Quiet failures that were not discovered until clients complained
