I’ve read all of R.F Kuangs books and I respect her a lot but I’ve yet to rate anything above like a 3. Still waiting to be wowed tbh. Will probably still pick up her next project
Thoughts: Balancing Genre Expectations and Creative Freedom
In the intricate dance of storytelling, writers often find themselves navigating a delicate tightrope — on one side, the allure of adhering to genre expectations, and on the other, the beckoning call of creative freedom. Join me in a contemplative exploration of this nuanced balance, as we reflect on the interplay between staying true to established genres and unleashing the boundless realms of…

Hello there! This is the official tumblr of T. L. Shreffler, author of The Cat’s Eye Chronicles, a YA fantasy series about a noblewoman who dreams of adventure and is kidnapped by an assassin on the run. :)
Maybe we know each other. Maybe we don’t. Maybe you’ve reached out before. But you can always leave a comment and I will read it eventually and do my best to respond.
So where have I been these past seven years, since the release of Book 5, Krait’s Redemption? I have been working in the Entertainment industry. I didn’t know when I took on the job that it would take over every aspect of my life, and I would not have time to pee, let alone time to write. But that is the sad truth of life--we have so many needs, and finding balance in this mad rush world is so hard. I had a lot of financial responsibilities come into my life, and so I had to step away from writing in order to build a more stable career for my future. I foolishly thought I would be able to take on a full-time job at a large corporation and somehow stay committed to my own personal projects. Live and learn!
What I didn’t anticipate happening was the fallout. The long hours of project management, demanding clients, pipeline disasters and no sense of independence or personal autonomy outside of the company I worked for. Salary should be illegal.
In 2020, when the pandemic started, I made the decision to get back to writing my fantasy series, and finish several other projects I have in the works. I hope this year will be my most productive yet. I have 4 manuscripts I want to finish. Let’s do it!
On this Tumblr, I plan on sharing writing thoughts on my current projects, some life updates, and general photography and art that inspires the series and my writing. Please feel free to follow along and stay connected on this crazy road called life. Take care and stay safe out there!
