From Yo-Yo Dieting to Lasting Change: How One Mom Lost 100 Pounds for Good
For as long as she could remember, Lisa Harris was caught in the endless cycle of yo-yo dieting. She had tried every fad diet, from low-carb and high-protein to juice cleanses and meal replacements. Each time she lost weight, she felt triumphant, only to regain it—and often more—within months. The cycle was relentless, and it left Lisa feeling frustrated and defeated.
Tumblr media
Lisa’s struggle with weight began in her early 20s, but it wasn’t until she became a mother that the impact of her weight on her life became truly clear. She wanted to be a role model for her children, showing them the importance of health and well-being, but her fluctuating weight and diet plans seemed to contradict the healthy lifestyle she aspired to live.
Despite her best efforts, nothing seemed to stick. She meticulously counted calories, avoided her favorite foods, and hit the gym regularly, but the results were always short-lived. Lisa’s self-esteem took a hit each time she stepped off the scale and saw the numbers creep back up. Her confidence was shattered, and the joy of motherhood was overshadowed by her ongoing battle with her weight.
Tumblr media
One evening, after another exhausting day of calorie counting and meal prepping, Lisa sat at her kitchen table, reflecting on her journey. She realized she had been treating weight loss as a temporary project rather than a permanent lifestyle change. She was trapped in the mindset of quick fixes and short-term solutions, hoping for a miracle that never came.
It was during this moment of reflection that Lisa had a breakthrough. She understood that she needed to shift her focus from losing weight to adopting a healthier way of life. The epiphany wasn’t about achieving a specific number on the scale but about making lasting changes that would support her well-being for the long haul.
With this new mindset, Lisa decided to approach her health journey differently. Instead of obsessing over the scale and restricting herself to rigid diet plans, she began to embrace a balanced approach to eating and exercise. Here’s how Lisa transformed her life and lost 100 pounds for good:
Focusing on Nutrition, Not Restriction: Lisa shifted her focus from depriving herself to nourishing her body. She began incorporating whole foods into her diet—fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains—while allowing herself occasional treats without guilt. The goal was to enjoy food without being controlled by it. By making healthy eating a part of her everyday life, Lisa found that she could maintain her weight loss without feeling deprived.
Embracing a Balanced Exercise Routine: Instead of pushing herself through intense workouts she dreaded, Lisa found activities she genuinely enjoyed. She started taking dance classes, hiking with her family, and practicing yoga. Exercise became a source of joy rather than a punishment, which made it easier for Lisa to stay consistent. She learned that finding pleasure in physical activity was key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Building a Support System: Recognizing that she couldn’t do it alone, Lisa reached out to a support network. She joined a local weight loss group, connected with friends who shared similar health goals, and involved her family in her journey. Having a support system provided Lisa with encouragement, accountability, and a sense of community, which helped her stay motivated and committed.
Prioritizing Self-Care and Mental Health: Lisa realized that weight loss wasn’t just about physical changes; it was also about mental well-being. She began practicing mindfulness, engaging in self-care activities, and addressing her emotional eating triggers. By focusing on her mental health, Lisa was able to build a healthier relationship with food and her body.
Setting Realistic Goals: Instead of aiming for rapid weight loss, Lisa set realistic, achievable goals. She celebrated small victories along the way and acknowledged her progress, no matter how incremental. This approach helped her stay motivated and reinforced the idea that sustainable change was possible.
As the pounds gradually melted away, Lisa felt a renewed sense of confidence and empowerment. Her transformation was not just physical but emotional as well. She discovered that lasting change came from a holistic approach to health, one that integrated balanced nutrition, enjoyable exercise, mental well-being, and a supportive community.
Tumblr media
Today, Lisa proudly maintains her 100-pound weight loss and continues to live a vibrant, healthy life. Her journey has become an inspiration to others who are struggling with their own weight loss battles. Lisa’s story is a testament to the power of shifting one’s mindset and embracing a sustainable, balanced approach to health.
Lisa’s realization that weight loss is not a temporary fix but a lifelong commitment has been the key to her success. She now lives by the mantra that true health is about loving yourself and making choices that honor your well-being every day.

Escape the Diet Trap: Say Goodbye to Yo-Yo Dieting for Good
Have you ever tried to lose weight and even had some success, only to find the pounds creeping back on once your diet plan is over? If so, this video is for you. 🌟
In this video, I'm going to explain the phenomenon I call the "weight loss roller coaster" and show you how to get off that ride for good. I'm Justin Alt, a certified nutritional therapist and founder of Clovis, specializing in healing slow metabolisms. Over the last decade, I've helped thousands of clients achieve jaw-dropping results, and now I'm here to help you do the same.
🔍 Why Most Diets Fail: Clinical studies reveal that 85-95% of people who lose weight using low-calorie diets gain it all back, and sometimes even more, within five years. This tells us that the mainstream approach to nutrition and wellness is fundamentally flawed. With 88-90% of adults in America suffering from at least one marker of clinical metabolic dysfunction, it's clear that the system is broken.
🚫 Stop the Blame Game: Mainstream advice often blames you, calling you lazy or lacking in discipline. This is unfair and untrue. The real issue lies in the flawed methods promoted by conventional wisdom.
🎢 The Weight Loss Roller Coaster: Most people start their weight loss journey by following extreme, unsustainable diets. They might initially lose some weight, but soon they find themselves regaining it all, and often more. This cycle of losing and regaining weight wreaks havoc on your metabolism, making it even harder to lose weight the next time.
💡 A Better Way: The key to escaping the weight loss roller coaster is to create a healthy metabolism. This involves:
Eating More, Not Less: Contrary to popular belief, you can lose weight by eating more—specifically, more nutrient-dense whole foods. Reverse Dieting: Gradually increasing your food intake to ramp up your metabolism. Sustainable Practices: Focusing on long-term health rather than quick fixes. 📈 Your New Goal: Instead of crash dieting, aim to maintain your current weight while eating more nutritious foods. Over time, this will naturally lead to weight loss and improved health. My Clovis protocols are designed to help you achieve this, replacing junk food with nutrient-dense options and supporting sustainable weight loss.
👉 Join Me: Allow me to help you get off the weight loss roller coaster once and for all. Together, we can achieve optimal health and wellness through intelligent, sustainable practices.

I feel good that everyone that told me I was fat and I needed to lose weight are way fatter than me. I don’t feel bad, you ruined my childhood
You told me no one would love me and marry me if I was overweight
You told me to be careful or I’ll will be morbidly obese
You gave me the side eye whenever I would eat anything
You always commented on my weight and body
Telling me how much better I would look if I lost 5-10-20 kg
Look at me. I lost over 40kg. I have abs. I have a toned back. Toned legs. I don’t see it most of the time but yeah maybe that’s the price to pay.
Look who’s obese now. Look who can’t stop eating. And you’re lucky I don’t judge you because I have been there. But I feel that this so deliciously ironic.
And worst of all. They think I am a freak and I am sick and always want to make me eat more.
Pick a side. You either want me to be thin or you want me to be fat like you or fatter than you so you can feel better about yourself.
No matter how I look they will always complain about my body. It’s like they are fixated on it. Now I am too fit… too skinny in their eyes.
I was the only overweight/obese child in our family. Now only 3 of my cousins on each side of my family aren’t overweight. The rest are overweight to obese. I have 14 cousins. And I have never made a comment on their body. I subtly encouraged eating more fruits and veggies and drinking more water and playing while moving and dancing and having fun. My approach is nothing like how my aunts and uncles have treated me. Let’s not talk about my mom. She never said the word fat but she locked the kitchen and always tells me to stop eating and even yells at me « enough!!! You had enough! » let’s also not talk about my mom’s collègues in Tunisia.
Also all of them were at least overweight if not obese. On my mom side my aunt and my other aunts husband were always yoyodieting and on my dads side my two aunts and my uncle were class 2 obese. My mom was rail thin (used to be 175cm and 51kg) but now she weighs 82kg and is 167cm tall because of back issues). Only me and two of my cousins work out regularly. The rest are so sendentary.
Idk. I feel sorry that my cousins are influenced by their parents into an unhealthy lifestyle. But I feel a sweet victory when I see how my uncle and his wife and my aunts on my dad’s side are always pretending to eat so little and criticise how much I am eating when it’s fruits or a salad. Leave me be. I suffered enough. I am underweight. Let me eat my fruit in piece. And oh those 5 biscuits (at least 85cals) you ate with your coffee are six times the serving of strawberries I ate. The same serving you called too much.
« Be careful, eating so much food you’ll go back to being obese again hahaha »
Say what? Actually. Screw you. You suck. Leave me and my strawberries in peace. Let me eat my watermelon without freaking guilt. I don’t touch your guys dishes and the actual meals...
Also they try to sabotage me by adding loads of salad dressing which is mostly oil. And they ask:
« Why aren’t you eating your salad Sarra. You love salads!!! »
You think I didn’t notice the pool of dressing in my salad. Do you think I am dumb. That’s more than 1000 cals in oil alone.
And they make fun of me when I eat my safe food raisins. They remind me of my dead grandma she used to always give me the most deliciously sweet raisins. So what I eat 60g of raisins in one sitting. That’s basically half of my daily intake.
Or when they tell me my sucralose will make me fat. No it won’t. Sugar will. Not 0 cal sweetener. I’ll add 10 units of sucralose in my coffee.

👌No. This isn't keto. The thing about keto is you heal your insulin. What does that mean? It means if you do plan a high carb day, your metabolic system cleans it up out of your bloodstream very quickly because your cells no longer see insulin as a threat. . The thing about Keto and healing your insulin, is that you become metabolically flexible. Meaning, you can easily move back and forth from burning ketones to burning glucose as needed. Like our ancestors who didn't have berries or grain all the time and ate mostly meat and fat. . I maintain a low carb/keto & carnivore lifestyle 99% of the time. But I have enjoyed an occasional "regular" or high carb meal once or twice in the last couple years, and have no regrets. It's a learning process that turns into a lifestyle. . A lot of people think that they can be keto during the week and eat high carb every weekend, but, many studies have shown that those people I barely getting back into ketosis by the next Friday and then they're back eating carbs again Friday night, so eating higher carbs regularly just isn't worth it to me. But, once in a blue moon for a planned celebratory day is good. It's a lifestyle, not a crash diet you do in splurges, causing yoyo weightloss effects. . For women, it's actually healthy to eat 100-150 net carbs (whole food net carbs, which is not what's pictured) on their menstrual cycle day number 20 or number 21, or for some it's menstrual cycle day number one or two. So if you are keto and female, consider some research into carb cycling or check out Rachel Gregorys podcast on how doing this helps your cycle come to fruition. . It's all about metabolic health, not just weightloss, not the number on the scale, not your waste size. Do you clean up the carbs you eat quickly? Or do you stay bloated for days, turning your high carb lifestyle into a mental fog of daily exhaustion? Ask yourself how you feel? #tryketo . #keto #metflex #metabolicflexibility #metabolicconditioning #thai #thaifood #springrolls #carbs #highcarbday #carbcycling #noodle bowl #ketoisthebest #ketoworks #ketobeginner #eatketo #femalediet #yoyodieting #stopyoyodieting #eat #enjoyyourfood (at Denver, Colorado) https://www.instagram.com/p/COmJ3KiAqK_/?igshid=eo1zrdozwb6f

Weight loss is harder after 35 but it’s even harder with the changes after 40’s. You gain weight more easily. But if you want to set yourself up for success you must watch yourself. You don’t want to hop on the scale to do a weekly “weigh-in”, starving yourself or counting ‘’points’’ all day long, right? So, why let the scale and the points decide your success? I struggled with weight loss, too, once. And even worse for me were the uncontrollable cravings that were taking the life out of me and left me sluggish and without any energy, so I just had to reach again for another cookie or chocolate …I know exactly what you’re going through – and it’s scary. It’s frustrating. It’s difficult. But, Hey! I’m here to help you and teach you how to lose weight naturally and stop counting points once and for all. So, this is why I created this FREE TRAINING so I can show you why diets don’t work and why you are wasting your time and energy just to find yourself few weeks later in the same place as you started. Blog of the week: Yo-yo Dieting 🪀🪀🪀 Ever been to a mountain side for a trek, walk or a bicycle ride? It’s always difficult to make the climb but easier to descend. Yo Yo diet is also similar. Weight loss leads to a diminished appetite and causes the body to cling to its energy stores. As a result, some yo-yo dieters gain back more weight than they lost. With each turn of the cycle, it takes longer to lose the same amount of weight. Yoyo dieting in sedentary individuals is simply the result of a decreased metabolism from the muscle loss during dieting and a lack of lifestyle change, not “metabolic damage. Someone who is on a diet and decides to go off it and restarts intake of energy that made them fat in the first place, their decreased metabolism due to diet actually causes them to end up with more fat mass. Your hunger-satiation patterns have probably been conditioned by years of intermittent yoyo interventions. Leptin is a hormone that is important in regulating your energy balance and appetite. It is secreted by fat cells, so a decrease in body fat stores comes with a decrease in leptin levels, which means your energy expenditure goes down and your appetite increases. Refeeds combat this adaptation process of your body by tricking the brain into believing you are well nourished without gaining body fat and thereby keeping your metabolism up during an energy deficit. Poor sleep also lowers the leptin since leptin is produced during sleep. Getting 5-6 hrs of good sleep can cause your satiety hormone leptin to drop. Slow the pace of eating, try and practise mindful eating, savour the food, eat slowly, and sense the taste, smell, and texture of the food, stay hydrated, reduce stress. These are some of the ways to practise a healthy lifestyle and prevent weight gain. Food fads and misinformation are increasingly popular. Avoid fad diets. It’s not just what you eat that matters, it’s also when you eat. Important aspects of a weight reduction program is changing food behaviours and increase physical activity. Consistency is the key. #yoyodieting #yoyodiet #leptin #ghrelin #fatstorage #thin#fat #fatloss #weightgain #weightloss#metabolism #slowmetabolism #blogs https://www.instagram.com/p/B8kcr6tAUyw/?igshid=i0613h945hc

I get a lot of questions about Intermitinet Fasting. People want to know what I think about it and if they should use it as a way to eat in order to lose weight. For some, it works well and fits perfectly into their lifestyle but others seem to struggle and yo-yo between overeating and forcing themselves back into an IF routine. If you find yourself falling into the group of people who really struggle to stick with intermittent fasting I want you to ask yourself the following questions. When I am fasting do I feel tired and/or irritable? Do I find myself eating more than I normally would when my fast is over? Why do I think I NEED to fast to lose weight? Do I feel guilty for not being able to stick to this new lifestyle? Really look at and analyze your answers to these questions. Are your answers in alignment with the life you want to live and the person you want to become? If that answer is no then it’s time to find a sustainable solution that works best for you. All diets will help you reach a RESULT.
