#Yuri is a child model

CHA 5

Christophe knew a lot of people. He knew fashion designers trying to make it, models desperate for a gig, crew looking for anyone to sign off on production work just for the college credit, and he knew how to get them together at a moment's notice. What he couldn’t do was recreate the missing designs. Victor had been absolutely distraught to realize that some of his pieces were positively wrecked by the move, while other less spectacular pieces made it through just fine. In the end, he was left with a set of angora sweaters, slimline slack jeans - or sheans, as he liked to call them - that combined the elegance of high end office wear with the durability of street fabrics, and a single pair of sheer socks he’d made from scraps of a disastrous attempt to make panty hose more fun and less annoying.

It was a frantic week of pulling fabrics, bolt by bolt, from boxes, tubes, and any piece of clothing that had been destroyed, trying to make something new, exciting, something that would not only delight the senses, but bring some whimsy into an otherwise very monotone world. Why everyone thought beige was the be-all, end-all of the last two seasons, he wasn’t sure, but come hell or high water, he’d see this change. “Don’t get me wrong,” he babbled to the man behind the counter, “it’s a fine color. It has its place. But so much? All the time. Non. It’s - how you say?” Victor waved a hand in front of his face, letting his jaw go slack, eyes blank. “Steklyannyy pritsel?”

“Terne?” came a voice rich as clotted cream. “Means dull, boring.”

Victor turned, eyes bright. “Yes! This is the word!” It was the man in the jeans. The delicate blond boy was standing with his hands behind his back by a selection of buttons, looking exceptionally bored. He must have noticed Victor’s flicker of recognition. His eyes were beautiful. Long lashed, blue, wide and earnest. Not just any blue. Cobalt. They caught the light in just such a way… “Hello,” Victor said with his friendliest smile.

“Hello. Sorry, I didn't mean to step in. You just seemed to be a little lost with the language.”

“Oh, yes. It mixes with the others sometimes. Ty govorish' po-russki?”

The man winced. “Not that well, if I’m being honest. Knew someone who spoke it pretty well. Taught me a few phrases, some things here and there.”

“But that’s marvelous! Learning something new is never out of style,” Victor purred. The boy by the buttons huffed, turning his head away. “Your … son?”

“Ah. Yes. He’s supposed to be choosing the buttons to fix his shirt with,” Mr. Cobalt Eyes said with a slight frown. The boy turned slowly towards the display again, grabbing four sets of ladybug shaped novelty buttons, handing them to … Victor really needed to find out who this handsome man was.

“Victor, by the way. Nikiforov.” He made a move to lean on the pile of fabrics being measured and weighed, casual interest in his gaze.

“Trent. Trent Dale.” He put a firm hand on the boy’s shoulder. “This is Yuri.” The boy stared at Victor, eyes as viridian as the sea. Vivid colors ran in the family, it seemed.

“Nice to meet you, Yuri.” The boy said nothing, clutching the buttons tightly. “He must have his mother’s hair,” Victor added, trying to prolong the conversation. Trent was tall, and handsome in a corporate way. Victor could almost see him dressed in suits, polished shoes gleaming as he stepped from his bedroom, freshly showered, smelling like the promise of sex and money. Yuri frowned, shuffling uncomfortably. Victor realized he had missed something Trent was saying.

“ - it’s okay, though. We get by. Don’t we Yuri?” He shook the boy’s shoulder, jostling a mumbled nonsense out of him.

“Oh, well, I suppose that’s all we can do,” Victor covered smoothly. “Try to get by. So, what happened to the buttons?”

“Oh, that. Small accident. Popped one. It got lost in the shuffle, I suppose. Rather than walk around with one missing, we decided to replace them all. Although, I don’t know about ladybugs. Little out of place, don’t you think?” Trent addressed the last half to Victor, half to Yuri. The boy stiffened, looking at the buttons as if trying to figure out if he wanted to fight about it or not. Victor took pity.

“I think it adds a bit of whimsy to the design. As long as the colors don't clash horribly, it just makes it fun.” Crouching to be more at the boy’s eye level, he shone a smile that bent his lips in at the bow. “What color is the shirt?”

Yuri glanced at Trent who nodded. “It’s black,” Yuri answers in a bite that seemed to cut off the rest of his sentence.

“Is it a dress shirt?” Yuri nodded. “A black dress shirt. Full sleeves? Bit of a wider collar?” The blond’s eyes widened. He shook his head. Another glance at Trent, then he turned back to Victor, swaying towards him just that little bit. “It’s got a mandarin collar, and it’s trimmed in red, Like the cuffs, and it’s long.”

“Is the black very shiny?”

Yuri wrinkled his nose. “No.”

Victor couldn’t tell if that little pout was because he wanted it to be shiny, or if the boy was offended by the very idea. His eyes burned as he looked at the fabrics, then lowered his head to look at the buttons he was clutching. “Well, in that case, ladybug buttons would be perfect. A little pop of color to accentuate what’s already there, and a little childhood wonder. Snakes and snails, yes? Why not some insects too? Particularly when they…” Victor’s mind went blank, searching for the word. “Slivat'sya? Sootvetstvovat'?” he muttered.

“Da. Oni podoydut i ne slishkom bol'shiye…” The words trailed off as Yuri stepped back, biting his lower lip. Victor beamed. “You speak po-russki very well,” he chimed, throwing a glance to Trent as the boy clammed up. “Well…” Standing, Victor looked over his shoulder at the clerk neatly packaging his trims and notions. “If you ever need button advice again…”

“Be hard to ask if I don’t have any way to contact you,” Trent smiled. Those teeth were so white, Victor could have gone blind.

“Oh! Yes.” Snatching one of the store's business cards, he pulled a fabric flower from the display vase, revealing it to be a pen in clever disguise. Jotting down a number with a small winky face holding fingers up in a peace sign, Victor handed it over. “I’ll be busy for a week or two, but I'm free after that.”

Trent looked at the card curiously. “Interesting.” Then those blue, blue eyes glanced at the many bags. “Making something big?”

“Massive,” Victor purred. Then he chuckled. “I’m making my spring collection. Again.”

“You’re a fashion designer?”

“I will be. I’m at PCA.”

Trent gave an impressed little nod, considering Victor. “A hard school to get into.”

“I did my best. I am going to take on the world, one fashion disaster at a time.” He spared Yuri a conspiratorial wink.

“I look forward to seeing it.” Trent’s easy smile almost had Victor walking out of the shop without his copious amount of goods.

CHA 6

Victor spent the next three days bent over the kitchen table, back aching, hands smudged, eyes strained as he littered the floor with rejected designs and sketches. He had his originals, but they were old, and while there was something he could draw from them, there was no joy in the way they lingered on old problems, previous mistakes. Instead he pulled the idea of it from the place it originally came. The jumpsuit - that recalled a particular night at a club that ran well into the next morning, having to face down an unforgiving instructor and her brutal, soul crushing constructive criticisms - needed a refit. A modern twist that fit more than the desperate need to not look like he’d been wearing the drink stained clothes from the night before under it. It was giving him problems. Jumpsuits were pretty much fashionable or made you look like a dock worker. It was hair pulling maddening.

“Min vän,” Christophe cooed, sliding a cup of warm tea under Victor’s nose. “This is not good for you. You need to rest. Let your mind recover, gain inspiration.”

“I’ve tried, Chris! I tried,” Victor cried, using the cup to warm his hands. “I just…” His lips drew tight as he threw his feet on the seat of his chair, folding in on himself. Leaning against the wall, Victor closed his eyes. “It’s not working.”

“Okay.” Christophe drew a chair over, sitting close. “Tell me what you were thinking when you created it?”

“I didn’t want to throw up on my presentation, and I wanted to pass.”

Christophe scoffed. “Sure. We all want that. What was really going on?”

Victor searched his mind for a witty segway only to come up flat. Sighing, he set the cup down. “I just wanted to hide. I’d done something stupid,” Christophe’s mock shocked expression withstanding, it felt good to be able to speak about that very strange twenty four hours. “I’d been stressing about finals.”

“As you do.”

“As I do. I needed to get out, clear my head. I let myself get talked into going to the club.”

Christophe shrugged. “Nothing wrong with a little fun.”

“At nine p.m. On a Tuesday. During finals week. The night before my organic harvesting and natural fiber production's economic impact on the future of fashion presentation.”

Christophe winced. “You spent months agonizing over that! The late night calls, the desperate pleas for help researching.”

“It wasn’t that bad,” Victor muttered.

“The way you sobbed into your sketches when you couldn’t find drafter blue pencils.”

“The color disappears once ink is overlaid! They’re worth their weight in rubles!”

“Your sudden desire to become an oil rigger to avoid the whole section on soil erosion, and sustainability.”

“It’s a touchy topic.”

“Your inability to admit you were addicted to lattés for a whole month.”

“I didn’t know four a day would make me gain six pounds, okay?!”

“Sure it wasn’t the stress eating?”

Victor shoved him with his foot. “As I was saying!” Christophe smiled into his cup, eyes sparkling. Victor huffed before leaning back against the wall with a little wiggle. “There was this guy, and he was just… so fine. Strong, and firm, and - “ Victor sucked in his bottom lip, biting down on it as he made a little grunting sound.

“Sure sounds like it,” Christophe grinned.

“I thought so… until I woke up to the sound of him talking to someone while I was in his bed.” Christophe winced. “Same old song and dance, da? One night stand, already committed, and torn between tearing through, setting everything aflame, and slinking away, tail between legs.”

“I take it you went with option two?”

“I went with option two.” His head hit the wall when he threw it back. Rubbing the spot, he crossed his legs, sitting up more in the chair. “My clothes were covered in spilled drink and… other things.” Christophe nodded sympathetically. “I needed something to cover it up. I found a jumpsuit in this awful tan color just hanging on the line outside, and took it. I spent the whole rush to campus trying to find things to style it, and just went with using it as part of the presentation. Added a whole bit about how sustainability was good, but it couldn’t be allowed to cover individuality, and sort of…” He made a motion indicating he’d unzipped it from neck to crotch.

“How did that work out for you?”

“I got a pass, so not too bad.”

“I’ll bet you did,” Christophe winked. “Well, as thrilling as that story is, what are you going to do about this?” He motioned to the design. “It’s not too complicated. Pants are a bit much. Maybe shorts?”

Victor sat up. “Shorts. Christophe! You’re a genius!”

“Naturally. Why?”

“Shorts! If I turn the pants into shorts with a roll cuff, side strap buckles to hold them up, they become adjustable, allowing for more range of use. Increase the drop of the collar, add a little extra here so it flaped to the side in open neck mandarin, a-la-militare, add whimsy with the buttons and piping at the edges… a wide belt with a buckle that has shine, little sparkle with the accessories… Look at this!”

Christophe peaked over Victor’s arm to see the sketch produced. “Loose top kitten heeled boots, scrunched socks with pops of color… you know min vän, you may make a fashion designer yet.”

So the thing is; I don’t think Yuri has like a loli con sister fetish thing going on. As fun as it is to shit on him for it and as weird as it is sometimes I think he just loves her and because he probably has no/very little memory of his parents and he’s definitely never had a romantic relationship in his life the only person in his life that he loves is his sister and so my take is that his brain never actually learnt to differentiate between all the different kinds of love you can have for people.

Like ofcourse objectively he knows the difference between romantic love and platonic but also Yuri at times is still mentally at the childhood phase of I love my mom and I’m going to marry her because I love her so much and that’s apparently what you do when you love someone.

Because honestly if he really was weirdly romantically in love with Yor I don’t think Anya would bother him so much but like hes just as jealous of Anya as he is of Loid which would just not be the case if he actually knew how to differentiate between all the different kinds of love. If he really was romantically attracted to yor I think he’d make a bit of a bigger show to show how “fatherly” he could be (even tho she’s technically Loid’s child)

Yuri just really loves his sister like when little kids have feelings that are too big for them to understand or to explain or do anything other than experience them at full intensity. There is no one else hes allowed himself to share his life with in anyway. He has no real friends no parents or parental figures and he has no partner he literally only has his sister she’s his entire life.

And yor was kind of like that too in the beginning; wrapped up in Yuri. everything she did was to ensure Yuri didn’t worry it wasnt as intense as Yuri’s cause Yor’s not as single minded but like look at them in the last chapter Yor actually sets and enforces strict boundaries on Yuri and how he can talk about her family when just a couple chapters ago she let him talk smack about her fake marriage and fake husband in her living room and everything was an act to prove to yuri it wasnt “real” not really. But now Yor has grown she has let other people into her life it’s bigger and it’s settled in away that Yuri can’t push back against. And just like she’s always done as his big sister she is teaching him, modeling for him how to open up his life, how they can expand to include other people in this little world of theirs and they will still have space for each other that they’ll still have love for each other.

And yuri’s first instinct is to make their world small again to make it safe take them back to when it was just them so he can protect himself protect the space he occupies in Yor’s life. until he realizes that’s not making the world safe hes just sealing them in an airtight jar. And then he lets go as much as he can anyway even tho it’s just a few centimeters. He calms down and he goes home and I think the fact that he didn’t just stay home eating food that reminded him of his childhood of Yor instead he accepts the invitation, it’s why Chloe and his first commander are so important he letting his world expand just a little bit. That he gets the little sheets Yor wanted to get for Anya. It’s proof it’s all proof that Yuri’s growing up. Hes learning to let the life in.

He’s still very much a weird little guy though

this AU really started as just me toying with the idea of actor sylvain with his protective bodyguard felix then wanting to put dorothea and sylvain in fancy clothes but the more i thought about it, the more ideas i had dshhjs

dorothea and sylvain have played romantic partners in many movies together and have very good chemistry on camera and during interviews, leading to lot of speculations of them dating

sylvain has the reputation of dating all his co-stars

felix started to wear a mask bc he saw that he was nicknamed "sylvain gautier's hot bodyguard" online and he hated it but now people only finds him hotter and more mysterious with the mask

OF COURSE there are rumors that sylvain and dorothea are dating or at least, have smth romantic (or sexual…??? 👀) going on with their bodyguards (literally the whole point of the au)

ferdinand, sylvain, lorenz and claude attended the same school (think, fodlan's equivalent of juilliard) and used to do stage plays together

ferdinand recently made his debut on screen while lorenz stayed in theater only because he prefers it here, claude's job is totally unrelated to acting or theater but he still writes and arranges stage plays for lorenz in his free time (mostly shakespearean plays)

sylvain has always liked theater and his parents encouraged and supported him when he was noticed by an agent at a very young age to be cast into a movie. he enjoyed it a lot at first but slowly lose his passion but stayed to please his parents (and there may have been parental pressure)

when he turned 19 and his contract was broken, he decided to quit acting to focus on his studies. he later returned 5 years after on his own terms

dorothea had a brief career as an opera singer but found out that she enjoyed doing musicals more

she debuted on screen with a musical and has slowly been branching out, first in romcoms or as the male lead's love interest in action movies but she has since taken more atypical roles for indie movies

felix, ingrid, sylvain are childhood friends, with ingrid initially being sylvain's bodyguard

ingrid became sylvain's bodyguard because she was worried about him and that way, she could always keep an eye on him

when dorothea rose to fame and was thinking of hiring a female bodyguard, sylvain recommended ingrid to her

ingrid then asked felix to replace her as sylvain's bodyguard

afghan that’s a tough one. i think i answered something similar when asked about what i think their uni years would be like?

the one i’m certain about is sayori getting in some sort of work surrounding children. maybe a kindergarten teacher, or something similar. i think her whimsy and fun would pair well with the kiddos, and her emotional intelligence is perfect for being a good role model to children that age range.

with yuri, i’d think she’s like… writing some sort of novel but very much in the side. like, that one friend that’s like “i’m writing this book… yeah, i’ve been working on it for like years. it’s pretty much finished but i’m just polishing it a bit.” and the ‘polishing’ ends up taking them another 5 years just out of anxiousness lol. i don’t think that’d be enough for her to make a living, so i’m gonna go with some sort of work at a library… maybe she organises the books or something like that?

natsuki is not going to university i think. so, that means minimal wage jobs!! hooray!!! unfortunate for anyone that ends up getting customer service from her those first years she’s searching for work. i’d like to think that eventually she ends up working in some bakery because i do want her to be happy. who knows, maybe the owner ends up having a parent-child relationship with her and passes the bakery down to her when they retire. we can only dream.

monika…. i have no idea what you’d be doing sweetheart. my uni headcanon is so vivid in my mind, with her going in some really challenging major and ending up really burnt out. i don’t know if she’d actually continue on with a job based on her major or try out something else. a part of me is thinking something in law, but that might be a bit too stressful. another part of me is thinking something in music, which would be more chill but also i don’t know if she’d be satisfied with it. monika is a person that has a lot of ambition after all.

Like, some would be concerned that r js dragged her blade through her palm, some would think r turned crazy, and some would think r's badass. The reasoning for her teaching would be that she realized the crew would be dropping left and right without her. With the fact that they're too reckless sometimes.

“Why do we have to go through this again?” Gwen groans as you push her towards the infirmary of the ship.

“Because you're all too reckless and I keep stitching you all up more than a seamstress stitches clothes!” You exclaim as you and Gwen enter the room.

The two of you are met with rambunctious laughter and chatter. A few of the members play around on the surgery table, playing around it and pretending they're doing surgery on Miles, who's laying still on the table. You cringe at the fact that they're holding your precious instruments with their bare hands that still stinks of gunpowder and wood. Hobie, your captain that's supposed to be a role model, chases Pavitr around with a jar of a specimen floating around in fluid. Pav screams, running all over the already small infirmary.

As if things couldn't be worse, James looks through the medicine cabinet while Yuri urges him to drink a mysterious vial that would definitely kill a grown elephant.

You let go of Gwen and shut the door with a resounding slam. It doesn't take much for them to quiet down after seeing the stern look on your face.

Hobie freezes in place, mid chase as he holds the jar above his head. Clearing his throat, he gently places the jar down on the shelf and gestures for everyone to stand to one side of the room. All the while smiling sheepishly at you like a child caught with his hand inside the cookie jar. Or in this case, inside a dead frog floating in amber fluid.

Miles almost staggers as he jumps off the table because of the gauze sticking on his eyelids. Gwen stifles a laugh, heading towards him with a helping hand and tugging the bandage off. You and Hobie share a look from their interaction. Smiling softly at the two lovebirds.

“Right,” you sigh out when everyone is standing to one side of the table while you're on the other end. “I called you in here because— Yuri.” Turning towards the raven haired, you open your palm out to her.

“What?” She says innocently.

You only give her a look, brow raised and fingers opening and closing.

With a sigh and a disgruntled groan, she takes a vial out of her pocket and hands it to you before returning back into the line.

“Good, as I was saying, I called you all in here today to teach you the basics of treating an injured crew member.”

James raises his hand.

“What is it James?”

“We can only treat fellow crew members?” He asks, scratching his cheek.

“No, anyone you want to help, I guess.”

Yuri raises her hand.

“Yes, Yuri?”

“What if I don't want to help them and they're actually a prick?”

You sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. “I don't know, Yuri, it depends on who you're talking about.”

James raises his hand again, side eyeing Yuri.

You groan, “yes, James?”

“I think she was talking about me.” He points at Yuri accusingly.

“Then she has to help you—”

Hobie raises his hand, smiling from ear to ear.

“Yes, captain?” You warn him with your tone.

“I need to go to the loo.” A resounding guffaw echoes out.

“Oh for fucks sake!” You unsheathe your dagger, showing off the newly sharpened metal.

“Shit, love!” Hobie yelps in shock, but his smile says he's impressed and even proud.

The crew members gasp, some in a panic and some in amusement. Pav was the former, almost looking like he's about to cry at the sight of you holding your dagger right above the back of your hand.

“What're you doin'?” Hobie has his hand reaching towards you, feet slowly inching to your side. “C’mon, love, we were just jokin’”

“Oh, I know. Don't do this on your own.” You shrug as you cut deeply at the back of your hand, wincing at the pain as Hobie rushes to your side and takes the dagger away from you and then grabs your bleeding hand.

“Fuck! Why'd you do that?!” Hobie panics, while the other crew members scream at the blood dripping from your hand down to the floorboards.

“Fucking badass.” Yuri nods in approval together with James who is in awe of the deep cut.

“As a demonstration.” You say calmly, but with the way your jaw tightens, you're in pain. “What—” you hiss as Hobie grips the cut, trying to stop the bleeding. “What are you going to do in this situation?”

“What?!” Gwen bolts over to your shelves to find a clean cloth. “You're fucking bleeding!”

“Exactly,” You say in between clenched teeth. Hobie's petting your hand and murmuring apologies against it. “Hobie, I'm fine.”

“I can see through your hand!” He cries out, eyes glimmering as the ship rocks against the waves.

“Yeah and you're doing great at trying to stop the bleeding.” You praise him, only to be met with a confused look. Turning towards the bewildered crew members and to Pav, who's being held up by Miles lest he falls on his knees. “You're going to need some clean cloth to stop it, or else you're increasing my chance of getting infected.”

“Scuttlebutt, I love you, but what the fuck?” He whisper yells as if he's about to lose his voice.

“I love you too, remember what I taught you back on the island.” You beam at him, kissing the tip of his nose briefly.

Hobie inhales and straightens up like the real captain that he is. “Gwen, the cloth is on your right, inside the top drawer.” Gwen does what she's told, frantically ripping out clean fabric. “Yuri, grab the antiseptic inside that shelf, it's the green jar.” Yuri mocks a salute and then heads towards the shelf. “James, the suture kit is on that table, you can't miss it.”

James rushes to get the needle and thread as Gwen packs your wound with the cloth. “Good on you, Gwen.”

“Don't fucking do that again.” She points at you as Hobie tightens his hold on your wound, effectively stopping the bleeding. You could only smile at her.

“Miles—” Hobie calls for him, only to find that he's holding onto an unconscious Pav whilst fanning his face. “Uh, take care of Pav.”

The captain meets with your eyes as you grin at him. “What's next, captain?”

“Scuttle work for you next week once you're healed.” He threatens, worry still etched on his face as he checks if the blood has stopped flowing out.

“Aww, that's not part of it though.” His grey eyes narrow, a smile curling at the corner of his lips. “I love you, good job.” You say with a lilt, eyes shining bright and alert, a good sign for Hobie.

He clicks his tongue in reply, but he still places a quick kiss on your wrist before laying your hand on the table to continue treating you and in turn teaching the crew. The scuttle work will be worth it now that you have taught them all a valuable lesson that might save someone's life in the future.

Day 14: Favorite Couple

Uh...

It's right on the tin? Sure, the moniker "family" applies to the dynamics between not mom, not dad, and not daughter as a whole, but such a model of family is still contingent on selling to the world the marriage aspect of the equation. So it's no exaggeration to say if this relationship didn't work on some level to push the narrative forward the entire manga wouldn't work either. And since we're all here, you can take a guess of how good the execution has been so far. I've mentioned before how the dynamics of the Forgers are the most interesting in light of what they bring out of each other, and it's specially true when talking about these two. Moreso because it's evident how much these facets are new even to themselves.

Twilight, out of necessity, has always been a suave jack of all trades that can seduce any woman required for the sake of completing the mission, always in duplicitous relationships where the entire goal was navigating the ulterior motives of those involved in a network of emotional manipulations for shady gains. The sex, the romantic conversations, they were always a code for him to decipher, a means to an end. So seeing a woman who can actually understand him on some level while also wearing her heart on her sleeve is completely disarming for him, her emotional straightforwardness demanding to understand her on sincere terms, thus slowly but effectively cracking the armor he built over a decade of shady works and getting him to unadvertedly show her his true self bit by bit even before he can realize it's happening.

Yor isn't caring because she wants to exploit anything about his Loid persona, she's just naturally a loving person and makes him feel safe in ways he hasn't allowed himself to be since he was a child. The end result is as simple as a man who's been using people's emotions as tools while trying his best to detach himself from his own is now presented with the chance to allow himself to feel again. Plus, it's a delight to see the world's best spy suddenly blush like a teenager experiencing his first crush when he lightly brushes his fake wife's hand. He's REALLY not used to actual love.

On Yor's side of the equation, she finds a pillar of support and safeness with Loid that isn't related to the idea of "being protected". She can take care of that plenty, but the safeness she feels comes from a different place: being accepted and understood for who she is. As Ostania's mightiest assassin, Yor's life up to that fateful meeting had her isolated from her peers, being an outcast who didn't have the means to shape her life the way she wanted by virtue of choosing to supply for Yuri at the cost of her childhood. She's unmatched in her abilities with a blade, but the extent of her skills outside of that are limited at best, and when it comes to socializing even the comraderie you form over a cup of cofee was alien to her. Thus her emotions were often bottled up, her aloof exterior scaring people away from the lonely person benath.

So seeing this stranger that she barely talked to for the sake of a convenience agreement being willing to take her side from a place of understanding, to think the best of her in the pressence of completely debasing rumors was the light amidst the darkness she didn't know she needed.

Moreover, Yor is incredibly self conscious of her perceived lacks. In spite of her stunning beauty she never thought much of her physical appearance, thinking of her hands as soiled by the blood covering them, and all the skills she never got to hone in often make her feel inadequate in light of social expectations.

Loid's reassurance of those skills not determining her worth, and how her loving self connecting with children being of irreplaceable value have allowed her to be that more confident in herself, to feel proud of those qualities she has, even wishing to be relied upon. In turn, this allows her to shine the warm self she always had beneath the cold exterior and allows her to connect with others, including those she didn't get along with at first.

They might still hide a hell of a lot from each other, but at a fundamental level they created such a genuine emotional connection and bring the best out of the other so much it's basically impossible to not root for them becoming a real couple. When not even the inclusion of a so called love rival character does so much as slightly pivot the bulk of fanart and fanfics outside of the dominant ship (save for the odd piece here and there), it's clear the dynamics were completely NAILED day one.

the princess of sylph (ongoing; self-publishing): plot-heavy fantasy yuri between a bereaved princess with the aura of a thousand sad hamsters and a persistent nun whose silliness conceals a deep well of trauma. gushed about it plenty here. i recommend starting with the serialized version, the proceeding to the twitter version + extras. cw: blood, violence, dismemberment (nothing too graphic, more standard monster-fighting fare).

i love amy (completed): school loner strikes an unlikely friendship with the girl known (and feared) for her violent tendencies and single-minded obsession with the school prince. cute but striking and skilled art with a surprisingly nuanced handling of trauma and neurodivergence. cw: attempted child murder, animal death (non-graphic). there are also depictions of standard yandere fare (kidnapping, torture basements) but they're always presented comedically.

i see you, aizawa-san! (ongoing): girl who steadfastly pretends not to see ghosts meets one she just can't seem to ignore: a deceased classmate and former j-pop idol, who has taken to haunting their classroom. ft. art that harkens back to classic shoujo and a supernatural mystery centred on the relationship between the two leads--that one of them can't seem to remember. cw: blood, body horror.

school zone girls (on hiatus): slice of life yuri comedy ft. a massive interconnected web of girls spanning at least three schools. it juggles gut-busting comedy with genuine heartfelt moments of character growth and connection and expresses it all through a solid, dynamic art style. the sprawling cast also makes for incredible outsider pov moments that lets us really appreciate how far some characters have gotten. this genuinely motivated me to revamp how i approached ensemble casts for my ocs.

brides of iberis (completed): wedding planner unenthusiastic about her engagement falls in love with a bride she's taken as a client. bittersweet but deeply loving; and so compassionate to each and every character, even the men the female leads have relationships with. cw: infidelity.

destroy it all and love me in hell! (ongoing): model student finds her miserable, tightly controlled life unraveling after being blackmailed by the class truant into indulging her ugliest impulses. toxic yuri extravaganza eleganza between two girls desperate for escape and the catharsis of fucking! shit! up!!! also hits that sweet sweet "love triangle as a conflict of ideals" beat. cw: blackmail, coercion, bullying, violence, emotional abuse, physical abuse, verbal abuse, adult/minor relationship.

yuri is forbidden for the yuri otaku (completed): passionate himejoshi enrolls in an all-girls private school to observe class s yuri in action, but never to engage in it herself--at least, until a misunderstanding wins her the resident gyaru's heart. a surprisingly poignant exploration of being queer in a repressive society and experiencing your queerness through the safety of unobtainable fantasy.

the superstar idol crushes on me today too (ongoing): failed idol-slash-middling radio personality finds an unwanted superfan in the country's biggest superstar. explores the merit of pursuing your artistic passions in the face of repeated failure, and what makes an emotional anchor in the fraught seas of showbiz. they are also just so so funny. what if i emphatically declare you my rival in show business but you've been in love with me since you saw me in a cooking show as a child actor and you take any excuse to spend time with me and have my attention with blinding enthusiasm

normality and monsters (ongoing): outcast weirdo witnesses the class idol devour their homeroom teacher in one bite and begs to be trained in the art of appearing normal. the art is snappy and charismatic, the monster design is properly grotesque, and the friendship of convenience between the two leads teeters between overcoming the monster's nature and just being a prelude to the monster acquiring a new meatsuit. cw: blood, gore, death, body horror.

a monster wants to eat me (ongoing): suicidal girl meets carnivore mermaid who promises to eat her if she develops a desire to live. it's been a while since i read this one, but the monster designs are once again sick as fuck and the drama of being cared for by a creature that finds you tantalizing is sooo juicy. cw: suicidal ideation, blood, gore, violence, body horror.

liar satsuki can see death (completed): high schooler who can see corpses before the death occurs strives to save as many lives as possible despite being branded a liar by the entire student body. this and ryouko's other manga, a walk to death, are pretty banging declarations on the value of living ironically (or maybe aptly) wrapped in so much death. blanket cw for blood, gore and death bc i tell you every mini-arc somebody dies in a fun new way and we'd be here all day if we listed them out.

anthology:

i'm the villainess but i'm being captured by the heroine?!: an anthology featuring heroines of otome games swerving hard and sweeping the villainess off her feet. i am such a sucker for villainess yuri. mean women forever. my favourite chapters are vol. 1 ch.1 and vol. 2 chs. 1 and 4.

honourable mentions:

my idol sits the next desk over! (completed): loner idol otaku ends up deskmates with her oshi and between jealous sabotage from a rival stan and the herculean task of acting normal around your fave, lands herself in the first and closest friend group of her life. one girl does explicitly have romantic feelings for another girl, but i bumped it down here because it isn't explored to the extent it could have been. it felt like it was setting up a slow burn only to end abruptly. do not recommend if you want a love story, do recommend if you want lonely people forging deep and enduring bonds of friendship.

the one within the villainess (ongoing): the villainess of an otome game reawakens for her condemnation and sets off on a path of vengeance for the sake of the beloved transmigrator who's occupied her body for years. it's ostensibly het, but to hear the way that the villainess speaks of her transmigrator, the first person to love her wholeheartedly and wish for her happiness and so inadvertently prevent her from becoming the hollow bitter woman she originally grew into...... like. that is yuri. like what if i knew your life in its entirety and loved you for it and i found myself in the position to give you the happiness i always wished for you to have. what if we wrote fix-it fic for each other on the fabric of the universe. what if we never even had a conversation but we knew each other the best and loved each other most. and we were both girls. do you understand why i'm insane about them. cw: blood, gore, violence.

Anyways here’s a long thingy about character motivations and how it influences actions and the epiphany. It’s been sitting in my drafts for months because I have no idea how to conclude it satisfyingly so here you go.

I yapped a lot in this post but basically Monika’s actions were in my eyes driven by the fact that 1. Nothing in her reality matters 2. You are the only thing that does exist and can matter, and 3. She wants more than anything to have value in life and to have a connection with someone real, and if she has no value she’s better off dead.

While base game is in caused by external factors like the epiphany, it’s also caused a lot by Monika’s own character traits that get turned into flaws when applied here. A lot of the things that drive her to do what she did was already there in the side stories. It’s one of those tragedies driven by character traits that in any other plot would have been inconsequential. Monika’s perfectionism and need to feel of value lead to her abandoning everything when her world couldn’t provide those things, seeking out you because as the only real person you are the only person she can be of service to meaningfully.

It makes me think about the rest of the club and how their big character motivations would influence them. To sum up my own ideas:

Monika is drive by a need to be useful. She may seem to be the perfect golden child who has everything she could ever want, but deep down she feels the need to prove herself for these things. She needs to be perfect, to be the best for others. Whether it be her role as club leader, model student, model citizen, or good friend, she focused on doing the best she can and proving her worth. She can’t put her own responsibilities onto others, it’s her own burden that she needs to carry for others. She knows her existence takes up thousands of resources at the cost of thousands of people, and with how privileged she knows she is, she wants to pay it back somehow, even if she knows it’s impossible. She can’t let anyone down, especially herself, she needs to prove that she’s deserving of all the things she has. She doesn’t want to be a burden to others. If she can’t pay back all the things she’s gotten from other, she’d be better off dead

Sayori is driven by the desire to make everyone happy. She says so herself so it’s pretty obvious. Surroundings herself with friends, she wants nothing more than to be there for them. She’s great with interpersonal relationships and emotions shown throughout both the main game and side stories, with her being the people person to defuse fights, boost morale, lift people up, and understand people in ways they don’t even understand themselves. it’s how she shows how much she cares, it’s one of the only things she feels she’s good at. She needs to make herself worth it for her friends, but the problem is that no amount of work she does for them will make her feel less of a burden, like she doesn’t deserve her life. But she can’t tell anyone else about these thoughts, it wouldn’t help them, it wouldn’t make them happy. Her own self hatred only grows and gets worse the more she hides it, but letting it out will only prove her self hatred right. If she can’t be useful to her friends in some way, if she ends up as a burden to everyone around her, they’d all be better off if she were dead

Yuri is driven by the want to be understood. She’s lived her life being an outsider, the weird one with interests and behaviours no one understands. She struggles with expressing herself and her feelings, only really knowing how to connect with others via her niche interests, meaning she only connects to a small amount of people. People had dismissed and made assumptions about her for so long that she just accepted that she’d always be an outsider, that she’s weird and that no one would understand the true her. So she puts up a mask, caring about her image and how she’s seen, trying her best to seem mature and wise if she can’t be loved as she is, to hide her weirder interests so she doesn’t put people off. The real her would scare off others, make people think she’s weird or gross, anything people can misconstrue as bad. People push away what they can’t understand, but on some level she might have learned to agree with these judgements. Why would people put up with someone who deserved these assumptions anyways. Maybe she could hide away parts of herself to be loved, but at some point she can’t change who she is, they’ll see something in her they don’t like and they’ll hate her. They’ll misinterpret what they don’t understand, and she’ll become something lesser in their eyes. She couldn’t stand the idea of being misunderstood and othered, so maybe she could just accept being alone instead.

Natsuki is driven to find a sense of belonging. More than anything she’s scared of being alone, left behind because she couldn’t put up with the cost of relationships. Pretty much all of her behaviour in the side stories is just her trying to open up, find new friends, but also desperately cling to old ones despite how harmful they are. She doesn’t really have good relationships with anyone outside the club. Her family life is ambiguous, but she can’t exactly leave whatever is going on with her dad. Whether or not she wants to, she’d have no other home to go back to if she leaves him, so she has to endure whatever degrading there is. No matter how she may fear her father’s judgment, she can’t survive on her own. Similarly, her friends also put her down. They judge and misinterpret her for who she is, make fun of her constantly, make her feel like she’s less, and overall make her feel worse about herself. They might not realize it, but they don’t actually like her for who she is. Yet Natsuki can’t let go because what else is there for her. She can endure the judgement because the alternative would be that she’s alone and abandoned. They might not like her for her, but at least she belongs somewhere. She worries so much about leaving them because she can’t guarantee another friendship besides them, she can’t imagine another regroup that would ever accept her. She couldn’t stand being alone like that, so instead she’ll endure being misunderstood and judged if if means she isn’t left behind.

These things pretty heavily influenced how they actually both in base game and side stories. The latter is obvious, but I think the roles they play in base game are also cool. Because Monika’s role is meant to be the helpful guide tutorial npc, fit for a person who’s desperate to be useful. Sayori is the whole trope of the heart of the team holding everyone together emotionally, breaking up fights, creating the games jokes, and even being the inciting incident. With her the game is happier and cheerful, while in act 2 her loss signals the tonal shift. Yuri is the maiden of mystery, with the first act being the part where we learn about her and her interests and understand her. In act 2 her character is misconstrued as her actions and entire being is flipped and misinterpreted into something shallow and scary just as she feared she was. Natsuki is the tsundere with the first act focusing on her opening up and finding the club as a place to be accepted and belong after pushing the others away from so long. Meanwhile act 2 has her slowly pushed away from the focus as the entire club begins to ignore and neglect her (basically that one Natsuki analysis I made once). As much as I restate my points I do it because I feel like the way character motivations here inform how they behave is so interesting and cool from a meta perspective. And I also think they’re really interesting because despite their distinctions they’re also very similar and often overlap

Sayori and Monika are about making their lives valuable and mean something by supporting others. While Monika leans to the more practical perfect golden child, Sayori acts as the heart of the team and shoulder to lean on. One’s way of proving themselves is focused on their smarts and skills while the other is all about interpersonal relationships. This is why they act as club president and vice president as they act as the guides to the other members, including the player. Part of it is them selflessly wanting to pay back to the people they care about, but part of it is also the desire for them to be needed. The problem with that framework is that being “needed” enough is both near impossible and super draining. They need to serve others, but for all their work it will never been enough for them. It’s no wonder they have self esteem issues. At least Monika still feels like she could achieve perfection (at least until act 4), Sayori has already given up and accepted that she’s a failure in her eyes. Because they need to be the best for others, they don’t like to talk about their feelings because they don’t want to be a burden on others. Talking about their own problems doesn’t help anyone, but it also doesn’t fix their problems either, so it just gets worse. Self fulfilling prophecy I guess

Yuri and Natsuki are all about finding people to trust, though their exact aims are opposites. They don’t really have actual connections, having been hurt by others in the past, and while they can be fiercely loyal once they find someone safe, they otherwise have a hard time opening up. They yearn for connections deep down, but they way of searching for it means they can’t really form stable ones. Yuri wants to be understood, but the second she feels off another person’s wavelength, she retreats, never committing to actually understanding each other better in fear that they’d hate what they’ve learned. She’s resigned herself to being alone, a fate that Natsuki spends the whole game running away from. Natsuki already has relationships, but they’re really unhealthy, with the people around her not respecting or understand her for who she is. Yet she still endures being misunderstood because the alternative is leaving them behind. She doesn’t trust she could find another place to belong anyways. They embrace each other’s worst fear in an attempt to reach their own desires, but neither approach is complete enough to get them what they need. They’re too afraid to step outside their comfort zone so they constantly accept that their loneliness and lack of acceptance is the default. Having been hurt in the past, they’re really just afraid of talking about their feelings, ironically being the one thing that can actually fulfill their needs. But they think their framework for relationships is how things have to be. They don’t realize one framework requires the other to truly work and be healthy. Self fulfilling prophecy again I think.

So yeah to boil down why the games love to pair up Monika/Sayori and Yuri/Natsuki this would probably be one of the big reasons. They all parallel each other in a million different ways, but for these specific pairings it’s the difference between being the best for your friends vs finding friendship in the first place. It’s just that both of these motivations also make them allergic to opening up about their problems in the game about hidden depths. Oops. Sure hope these things become part of a positive character arc about acceptance and relationships and not a painfully ironic downfall of a tragedy.

The thing uniting them all is that they all yearn for bonds and companionship at the end of the day, whether it’s maintaining these bonds or finding them. The problem is that they feel they aren’t good enough to deserve it, either trying desperately to disprove it by either helping others or putting up a person of confidence that they’re better.

Despite how important it is for relationships, their desire for relationships ironically lead to them having their own unique difficulties in opening up to people. It sounds contradictory, but relationships are complicated like that and it feels honest about how weird insecurity can be. But what prevents them from falling apart from miscommunication and isolation is the fact that they’re willing to try. Throughout the side stories they’re willing to be vulnerable, to open up and risk it all so that their bonds could become the best it can. Through the events of the side stories, their wish for connections can be fulfilled.

Notably due to events in base game none of these things are resolved , and if anyone ever reached the epiphany like Monika, they’d realize their wants aren’t possible in the first place (at least from the perspective of Monika’s epiphany)

Monika can never be truly meaningful if she’s just pngs and lines of text in a visual novel. Her existence can never influence the real world that matters, and with none of her friends being real, she can’t mean something to them either.

Sayori’s stuck in a horror game where everything bad happens to her friends, they all have to suffer for the epiphany. Monika directly says that no joy can be found in the literature club. If everyone is real, every is doomed to suffer with the reality that their lives are stuck in a game. If no one is real, their happiness is artificially, nobody is actually happy, happiness can only exist for someone real. Happiness can’t exist anywhere else in this world

Yuri’s whole deal in act 2 centres around her becoming mischaracterized into an unlikable person. Who she is is misinterpreted and twisted and flanderized into something she doesn’t want to be. Her worst fears are what she is now. Her problems and intentions are misunderstood to the point that she’s just a crazy yandere to everyone now, and now her image is tainted to both her friends and the player. Not that it matters, if she knew that her friends weren’t real, that they could never truly understand or comprehend who she is, that they only pretend to know how she feels, that they have no sentience and are merely lines of code, their understanding and care for her would mean nothing.

Natsuki is more alone than ever. Her one safe space becomes just as abusive as every other person in her life. They all distance from her, ignore her thoughts and needs, make her feel as if she doesn’t belong, put down her very existence in the club, and make her feel like she’s nothing. Nobody cares about her yet she has nothing else to rely on. And there’s no one else in her reality other than a club that hates her. Even then, they aren’t real. Fictional characters can only cure loneliness for so long. She’s still alone in the world with nothing real to care about her back. Shes truly alone

I think because of everyone’s need for connection being similar, they honestly would react similar to Monika if they were ever in her shoes. As the only “real” person in their world, you are the only answer to their problems left. I mean they wouldn’t reenact base game play by play or anything. I feel like some of them would be more direct in influencing the game to their needs or avoid actively affecting the other member’s mental states because it’d be a waste of time. And they’d probably be more attached to the club too (idk there’s also something about how Monika’s views on fiction also influencing her actions and how she kinda looks down on tropes and the type of stuff Yuri and Natsuki likes in base game. Overall I feel like base game would probably be slightly less murdery and manipulative but idk. if I psychoanalyzed everyone maybe I’d get a clearer idea but this is long.).

But like if the player is their only hope for real human connection, I feel like they would do anything to reach that. It might not be the same path as Monika, but if their options are either “be alone forever” or “try reaching out to the player” they’d probably make some questionable decisions at the cost of their own meaningless reality.

Act 4 Sayori had the benefit of hindsight on how best to reach the player, but if everyone started the same as Monika did, I do wonder how they would go about trying to reach the player. Maybe they’d be more similar than they’d think. Maybe that’s why they fit together so well. Maybe that’s why Monika wants to spare them from their fates. Maybe it’s part of why their isolation and dehumanization from each other becomes so painfully ironic. Ironically, they are the same deep down.

Obviously the whole trope of medusa is awake and just tells perseus what her deal is seems to be at least efficient but over-dramatized. one look at the reflection and bro sees a victories secret model lady if were going with that damn I guess it depends on the tone of the story, lighthearted? perseus is collecting moms like pokemon bro already was raised by two moms somtimes GET THIS KID A THIRD, of course perseus would be as young as possible, which I think Is like 13 or 14. medusa is the step mom that stepped up, but the third on to do so in a row so not very special lmao, "who the fuck is this child" doesn't take a genius to realize its a suicide mission. medusa throwing perseus at cetus like a pokemon. course the more serious version is probably like something about danae being thrown into the ocean in a chest to die after being zeus'ed and medusa being cursed and something something unity between victims and da struggle, medusa probably realizing there are woman (danae) who did and do have it worse than her and that she should use her power to help others instead of hanging out with her sisters waiting for evil kings to send children to die. probably medusa taking perseus place in a lot of these stories, kill her way into danaes heart (more than one crazy tyrant to kill). sometimes perseus kills cetus (big ol sea monster) just with a sword so not much about that changes unless medusas there than I guess honestly the cetus Andromeda thing really does kinda end up being like a different myth, a separate task and adventure. hell I think you can place it before him meeting medusa and not much would change.

ovids medusa and danae sadly have alot in common but one thing that's not sad is that both seem to want to live simple lives. its hard to characterize medusa you can basically do whatever which its probably why shes so popular honestly.

is that child abuse? i think that's child abuse. you learn the source of ritsu's problems very early on in his affinity--he has had zero normal social interaction opportunities and no childhood. From birth until he stopped being a toddler he was just flying around the world looking at beautiful things, no stability in his location or world aside from the presence of his mother, and then he went home and probably basically got locked away to study law the moment he could sort of read. His whole existence was molding him to work. . .Subaru is similar, even down to what age they were forced to start preparing to work at. But Subaru is at least better adjusted, probably because acting awarded him better opportunities to try and think about how other people think.

Ritsu is essentially asking 'is this because we're coworkers or are you asking me out' because White Day is the day for return gifts in response to given valentine's day gifts, and in the case of chocolates given to someone you wanna go out with they can act as a response to that proposal. presumably if you're asking him out he wants to give you chocolate to agree to get with you, since he's bothering to ask. . . .

A chronological analysis on Twilight and Yor - Part 21

The next morning, Twilight muses to himself that there are still things in the world he doesn't understand, but nevertheless, a spy must overcome fear of the unknown. While his face and tone are dead serious, it's comical that the thing that caused him to burst into this heavy-handed inner monologue in the first place is none other than his misinterpretation of Anya's reactions the previous day. AniTrendz described the humor of this scene perfectly by stating that "Loid really spent all morning acting dramatic when he's just sad that his daughter called him lame."

And yes, he really was bothered by the fact that he's still having trouble understanding Anya's emotions. While her mental well-being is important for Operation Strix, he also cares very much how she views him as a father. Unfortunately for Twilight, this trend will continue – after a whole day of fun activities, he's devastated to see the scowl on Anya's face when they're having dinner that evening. And, once again, he blames himself and even thinks that Anya could possibly hate him.

As I've mentioned before, Twilight is always cool and confident when it comes to his spy missions, but whenever Yor or Anya are upset, he becomes a second-guessing nervous wreck! It's telling how frazzled he gets when trying to figure out what's going on in their minds versus anyone else. If Anya and Yor's happiness is tied to a mission, and he's always calm and collected about his other missions, why would he get so bent out of shape about them in particular? I think we all know the answer to that.

It's also important to note that the couple of days on the cruise are likely the longest amount of time Twilight has been alone with Anya, without having Yor for parenting support. If she were with him during all this, there's no doubt that her patience with Anya's antics and the encouraging words she always offers, would put his mind at ease. But without her around, there's no one to buffer his constant freak outs when trying to analyze the mind of a child. His anxiety gets so bad that Anya even starts to feel bad about it.

Meanwhile, the big showdown on the deck between Yor and the assassins has so far been the most gritty and violent scene in the series. Endo has stated in the fanbook that making Yor likable while also giving her a profession that involves killing people, was difficult (though I think he's done a stellar job!) A reoccurring theme in Spy x Family is how the tragedy of war has led to otherwise good people partaking in immoral acts, whether for survival or because they're brainwashed into thinking that the side they're on is the right and just one. It's not only Twilight and Yor, but other characters as well, such as Yuri, Sylvia, even the young terrorists from the doggy crisis arc, as well as the assassins on the cruise – the factions that they work for, the politics behind their decisions, and the jobs they're assigned to do, are not framed as heroic nor completely evil, only the aftermath of political turmoil that the next generation has to suffer for.

In Part 13, I mentioned an interview in the fanbook where Endo states that the Forgers should not be seen as virtuous role models…he doesn't think it's correct to only see their "nice family" side. Despite all the comedic antics in the series that sometimes stretch the veil of realism, one very realistic aspect is that none of the characters are depicted as "black and white," "heroes and villains," and their professions are portrayed as more tragic and ugly than "cool." This is in contrast to other shonen series, where the main protagonists are often portrayed as role models who fight for noble causes we can't help but support, while banishing only the most wicked of villains. And often these protagonists started out "normal" only to suddenly gain superpowers, opportunities to go on grand adventures, and have big battles against villains. But Twilight and Yor are the opposite. The series starts with them already having extraordinary abilities and exciting, dangerous jobs, so the end goal is instead for them to be able to attain a peaceful, normal life…because their professions aren't framed as wish-fulfilling but as heartbreaking, grim, and sometimes terrifying.

Twilight and Yor's professions, as well as those of pretty much every other character in Spy x Family, have a lot of gray areas on the moral compass. This is why having a balance of both fun, slice-of-life scenarios, and spy/political action and drama conflicts, brings out the true complexity of the characters. Twilight may lie and act cold as ice towards people during his missions, but because we get to know him while he's living as Loid Forger, we can see that he's doing it for a noble cause, and underneath all that callous calculating, he's a compassionate guy who cares about the feelings of others. Likewise, we see that when she's not killing people, Yor is a total sweetheart who doesn't have a mean bone in her body, is a loving mother to Anya, selfless sister to Yuri, and, like Twilight, she does what she does because she truly believes she's doing good in the world.

If we only see Twilight and Yor as a spy and assassin, our view of them could be skewed negatively. On the other hand, if we only see them as a "nice family," we would be doing exactly what Endo warned against in his interview. But because we get to see both sides of them, we're able to relate to them even more, which makes us want to root for them. Is the immorality of their jobs too much to be forgiven, or are they righteous people who are simply victims of a cold war? Obviously if you're a fan of the series like me, you're opt to lean towards the positive view that Twilight, Yor, as well as many of the other characters, have been sorely damaged by the post-war era that they live in, but the commendable things they do far outweigh the ugliness of their professions, so they deserve a happy ending. And that's really the main appeal of the series – with all the gray areas of morality, seeing whether they can truly live happily without lies is something to look forward to.

Camp YouthFusion is just.... it's a lot. I havent even fleshed out the depths of its horrors yet but like. it's jumping off of Arc-V Academia as an inspiration point so THAT ALREADY SAYS A LOT AS TO HOW DIRE IT IS. BACK THERE. It's a summer camp that paints itself as helping kids develop bonds and wilderness skills and whatever other toothless corporate buzzwords will lure oblivious parents in, but in reality it's all just an ultra-conservative money laundering grand scheme of a culty-ass church camp with very good lawyers and PR (until even that can't save them from being shut down <3). It doesn't elaborate in the brochures that the "wilderness skills" are more "survival and combat skills for when you campers must fight in Leo Akaba's GOP-backed Holy War against the devil's chaos that's befallen our great country" than "learning to start a campfire ^_^" The brochures aren't mentioning the Glorious Future of the Divine Rapture that IS coming and WILL reward Leo strongest soldiers (and that Yuri definitely doesn't still feel the tiniest itches of yearning for that to happen or anything........ he's not doing great 🥴)

(LIGHT SPOILERS) basically, he has a test that he needs to take in order to advance as a witch, and he keeps failing it because he cant perform properly while being watched by other people, even though he knows the "right" spells to use and why he's supposed to use them. on his third attempt of the test, he's prepared a "script" to use so that he can follow it and not worry about failing in the moment (in this case, his script is a hand-written book of the proper spells to use and the order in which he's supposed to use them), but when a part of the exam changes, he's no longer able to follow his script. because he's been taught all his life that there's only one proper way of doing things, his way of thinking is very rigid and he's not able to deviate from his plan without panicking. luckily, one of his fellow examinees (richeh from the autistic anime girls poll ����) is able to convince him to try and change the way that he does things to something that is more attuned to his personal needs- basically change the way that he casts his spells and which spells to use so that he doesn't need to struggle with doing things in the way that everyone says that he should; the way that he cant seem to manage. but, even before richeh helped him with that though, he was still finding way to modify the "proper" spells a little bit to better suit his weaknesses. he was trying so hard to fit in to the mold that witch society gave him, but it just wasnt right for him and he was making it work however he could."

Sousuke -

"Sousuke Sagara is an ex-child soldier turned teenage special ops who has to go undercover at a high school to discreetly bodyguard another student. The only problem is that he has no IDEA how to act like a "normal" teenager. Sure, you can say that a lot of his mannerisms come from the whole "raised as a child soldier" thing which, fair, you could make a decent case for (C)PTSD. However, he's also extremely serious and has notorious flat affect and does not understand when other people are joking at all. He's incredibly literal; there's several scenes where he misinterprets what someone says, like the time he asked the art teacher what a model was supposed to do and got a rambling flowery metaphorical response about "becoming one with nature" so he ran off to hide in the woods. Another thing, his social skills are… lackluster at best. He's very blunt, and also a terrible liar for an undercover agent, when the student in question confronted him his strategy was to repeat the same phrase over and over again. He isn't 'interested in himself' or other people (low empathy) and doesn't realize that the things that happen to/because of him do effect other people, he doesn't realize when people have a crush on him or want to be friends, and all of this is stuff he kinda comes to realize as the show progresses. He struggles to care for himself physically because of the lack of physical and emotional input he experiences, and his friends canonically often cook for him and have to remind him to eat, and is a bit picky about what he eats. That one woman is a scientist, as you knew from last post. No one knows her real name so her official name in the ID is Jane doe(she got it after working with Cassie for a while)

But her and Cassie kinda have more history long before she dissappear , that's why Cassie is the only one that calls her Patricia (when she finally remember , because Patricia doesn't look that emo anymore)

Now , about Ms.Jane

She is a South east Asian woman with small figure and ink black pupils like a blackhole(creepy to look at) she has pale skin because of experiments she made on herself, it makes her looking like a living dead (because she is very pale and blood vessels are visible) and also makes her harder to reproduce since her body couldn't bare a child , due to radiation and stuff but yeah , she's still alive , too stubborn to die

Appear to always wear makeup ,gray, black , sometimes light blue eyeshadow, messy mascara, usually pale pink lips but sometimes wearing black or deep red lipstick

Her Quirk is not actually shown nor use much , but it is about molecule(similar to Momo) but she doesn't actually build anything, she manipulate it and it can also use to get rid of someone if she has to. If she use her quirk too much, it'll cause her a poor headache ,like a tiny electric shock in her brain + her lack of health care makes the headache came even faster and worse

She often makes weapons herself, or use anything (such as toothpick) as a weapon and also build her own stuff out of trash or something you can find in target

She is a total maniac I the battle field, she literally stabbed some kind of drug into herself before biting someone noses off

She is a mad scientist, so..yes, she does experiment like that too

But she is more like a peaceful type most of the time , she doesn't get rid of everyone , she chooses, this lady got some standard (most of those person tried to kill her)

She'd rather shoot herself than letting anyone not worthy kill her (well..Cassie is also the one she'll choose to hand the gun to)

So I’m writing my Chinese New Year fic and I’m realizing that I’m saying things about Yuri that are going to sound like surprises when they… Really shouldn’t be. So here’s a fun fact sheet for her.

Yuri’s favorite foods are stir-fry and hot pots. She likes noodles and meat, and her favorite vegetables are carrots and mushrooms (not technically a vegetable but still). She enjoys ramen as well, but it’s too much trouble for her to make it from scratch most days and she finds that the instant stuff isn’t as good as if she just made one of the other dishes.

Her favorite sweets are mochi. She especially likes green tea, coffee, and red bean mochi.

Yuri’s favorite shows are reality television/dating shows (Say Yes to the Dress and The Bachelor/The Bachelorette) and old movies in both the romance and comedy genres (The Princess Bride and Animal House)

Yuri used to work as an actress/idol. She started off acting as a kid, but gradually became more and more idol-like as she got older. She often acts very innocently to those she first meets, and comes off as very overly “cute”.

She’s good at manipulating people and will often do it to get whatever she wants. In the OG timeline with her, the only people who see through it are Leona, Vil, and Neige. Leona because he’s as good at reading people as she is, and Vil/Neige because they’re from the entertainment industry and know about how it works.

Yuri is pansexual and polyamorus.

Yuri is not a woman! She uses she/her pronouns because that’s what she’s always used and it’s better to use in the entertainment industry since she looks more like a woman when she has clothes on, but she’s actually intersex and possesses both male and female anatomy. So, she doesn’t care what she’s referred to as. This only makes sense if you know more in-depth lore, but that fact is also why she’s the only one of her siblings to be able to go to NRC.

Yuri has a sweet tooth, but she’s honestly pretty over-sweet things due to how often she ate them for the camera. If given the choice, she’ll choose something that’s a mix between savory and sweet.

Yuri loves traveling. Her goal, pre-NRC, was to give her mother most of the money she made in acting as a kid, take the royalties, go to college in Europe somewhere, and then travel the world.

Yuri was raised in Japan by her mother after she moved there at about two but is actually ethnically Chinese (in terms of her human biology, more on that if you’ve ever read my intro post for her mother)

Yuri is bilingual! She speaks Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese mostly, expanded on later), Japanese, English, and a bit of Korean, in order of when she learned them. She is also a citizen of both Japan and the US.

Due to the fact her mother only spoke in the same manner she learned when she was growing up many, many years ago, Yuri often speaks Cantonese. However, she can understand and read Mandarin, and knows “simplified chinese”. She could carry on a conversation with someone who speaks most dialects, but she can only respond in Cantonese and a bit of Mandarin if needed.

She’s a child of not divorce, technically, but definitely… Kind of divorce. Her mother caught the eye of a rich guy when she came to Japan who she quickly married and who adopted her kids. He then divorced her three years later to go live with his children in Germany after his mistress died, but Yue (Yuri’s mom) still gets child support.

Yuri was mostly homeschooled by her mother, despite attending a normal school, because she missed so much to do acting and singing and modeling. So she got a formal education, just from her mom, meaning that she’s actually much more proficient in speaking Cantonese than Japanese.

Despite almost always dating someone pre-NRC, Yuri is deathly afraid of commitment and would commonly ghost people after they dated for a few months because she got cold feet.
