Ginathon Episodes: Episode 232
At the end of the last episode there was an explosion at the Lord Banbury pub where the summer party is being held. Most of the Sun Hill staff are able to make their way outside on their own feet, some with light injuries and most just shocked or coughing from the smoke. Gina looks for Adam but noone has seen him come out yet. There's secondary bangs inside the building from the structure being unstable and Gina quickly calls for a fire officer to come assess the situation. Tony can't wait and runs back in to find Adam and get him out before the building collapses. There's a further collapse that blocks the exit but Tony manages to kick the fire escape doors open and carries an unconcious Adam out over his shoulder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unknown to everyone except Gina, Adam has been receiving racist hate mail for quite some time through the internal mail. Back at the station and unaware of what has happened, Rob slips an envelope into Adam's pigeon hole whilst wearing a glove.
The pub is sealed off and SO13 are called to attend. Sam suggests a gas leak but Gina says none of the witnesses or officers mention smelling gas. She did spot Wayne Radford driving away when she arrived however. Instantly Rob is riled. "It could be a bomb!" Jack tells him not to get ahead of himself and to go make himself useful.
The latest news is that Adam is critical and Gina heads to her car to go and be with him at the hospital. Jonathan arrives, having rushed to the scene. Gina is still obviously in shock and worried about Adam but assures Jonathan she's OK and that it would take more than an explosion to get rid of her. Jonathan hugs her and says their last few conversations had been snapping and things could have ended so differently. He offers to go with her but she assures him she'll be ok and doesn't know how long she'll be so she'll call him when leaving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back at the station, Jack has found the note in Adam's internal mail and has started to think that he could have been targeted by a racist. Rob says he was sent one too and that it has to be Wayne Radford, panicking when Jack won't be swayed.
Gina is still sat at Adam's bedside when Neil comes to see how he is doing. It still doesn't look good as he's inhaled so much smoke. [Out of interest, they're saying it doesn't look good. but noone appears to have contacted his wife. It's Gina who's at his bedside for hours. This is all of a day after she called him out for being jealous she was seeing Jonathan too...] The next 24 hours are critical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next morning Adam starts to come round with Gina at his bedside. Jonathan is worried as he hasn't heard from Gina. It's early days but the signs are good. Jack tells uniform that the explosion was caused by a bomb and that Adam received a racist hate note.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rob and Terry look into The Radford's involvement in the potential planting of the bomb. Rob watches the CCTV from a furniture shop across the road. Wayne arrives 2 minutes before and carries a parcel from the boot in the direction of the pub. Wayne gets back into his car seconds after the explosion and drives off. When spoken to, Wayne tells them that he was dropping off a birthday cake at Mario's, the bistro around the corner from the pub for a surprise party. Before they can leave the Radfords, it appears as though the 'bomber' may have struck again. Jerome Taylor, a local black councillor, reports he has been beaten up, told to leave Sun Hill and that he's been receiving hate mail. Rob doesn't look all that convinced, not least because it's been him and Taylor sending Adam the hate mail. He's horrified to hear about the bombing and Adam being hurt however - aware that if the notes are discovered to have come from him and Rob it makes them the most likely suspects.
Adam recounts what he remembers to Gina though it isn't especially helpful. He tells her that Denise has already asked him to leave Sun Hill over the hate mail. Gina admits he gave even her quite a scare and made her wonder if it was worth it. Adam tells her that she'll never walk away from the job as she has 'copper' coursing through her veins. She just smiles and says she's going to make times for other things - relationships for one.
Adam: "You mean Jonathan. For you to even be considering resigning there must be love in the air." Gina: "Oh give over!" Adam: "It's nothing to be ashamed of. You should tell him how you feel." Gina: "It's not me is it... all that lovey dovey stuff." Adam: "So you do love him then." Gina: "Something like that." Adam: "You can go out into the streets, take on dangerous criminals but when it comes to the man you love, you can't say three little words"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan and Gina finally catch up where she apologises for not ringing. Gina spots Lance before she can take Jonathan to her office to tell him something special and asks him to wait a moment. Tony has told Gina that Lance is struggling after he was unable to go help Tony get Adam out the pub and she goes to speak to him to make sure he's alright. Now Lance has gotten his phone and jacket back from Gina he's rather concerned by some messages that he has received. One in particular asks him to meet him by the gents toilets in the pub - where the bomb was - sent moments before it exploded.
Gina finally gets chance to speak to Jonathan. She wants to tell him that she's fallen in love with him and wants to prioritise their relationship, but unfortunately Jonathan is fed up of playing second best to the job. He speaks over her and tells her he thinks it's best to split up. "It's not that I don't love you, Gina. I'm sure I always will but I can't be in a relationship where I'm playing second fiddle." "But that's what I was going to say to you!" "Being a copper is what you are. It wouldn't be fair for me to try and change it, you'd only resent me for it anyway. It's time to call it a day." The barriers come slamming down again and Gina turns her back on him. "You know it's for you too... it's best all round." Instead of replying and telling him the truth - that she wanted to make more time for them and loves him - she shuts down and literally turns her back on him rather than let him see the truth, tears pricking her eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also turns down an invite from the relief to go out for a drink, still sounding rather choked ad she does.

first of all this is so cute??
also uhh hi I'm finch!! I LOVE anastasia, newsies, beetlejuice, moulin rouge, sweeney todd, les mis. I do dance mostly but I do some theater when I can. uhhh I'm a huge English and History nerd. And outside of showtunes I listen to a lot of different stuff but mostly indie??? maybe?? I think?? oh and I love pink and black :3
HII!! thank you so much! I'm so excited to show this one AHH
Tumblr media
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
this is mostly because you said you liked english and history - this one definitely has a lot of elements like that to it! I feel like it definitely is similar to les mis because it has a mix of both happy and sad songs to it (both very good <33). I also think you'll like this one because in a lot of the productions I've looked at, there's some great dance numbers, so considering you're a dancer you should enjoy them! oh and it's definitely got an indie feel to it, though that's mostly just in the movie <33
I first saw this one as a college production where a lot of the roles were gender swapped, and loved it so much. from then on, I've been listening to the sound track NONSTOP (ok but now that I've made the Hamilton reference I have to say that Ham Ham definitely suits you, too!!)
I have to at least put in a little word for the movie version (1973) because it might just be one of my top ten of all time. everything in it is so over dramatic, just the way I like it 😋 (ok and I might have a small crush on Judas but that’s beside the point)
here are my favs (this was so hard to pick I love them all):
(this is one from each of the main productions- they all have great and varying qualities to them!)
thank you soso much for sending something in, you sound super cool <3 let me know what you think, this might be one of my favorite musicals of all time!
PEACE OUT✌️

The Gilded Age's Broadway Divas: Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski)
Christine Baranski plays the curmudgeonly head of the van Rhijn household who always has a sharp word for everything. A bastion of Old New York, Agnes detests change and challenges to tradition.
Tumblr media
In contrast, Christine Baranski has had a long and illustrious career in the theatre, even before earning mainstream recognition in movie musicals such as Chicago (2002 - a delight), Mamma Mia (2008 - an icon), and Into the Woods (2014 - the highlight in a dismal movie). In the theatre, she has taken on seven of Sondheim's finest works to much better success, including the original pre-Broadway workshop of Sunday in the Park with George (Clarisse, later named Yvonne), regional productions of Sweeney Todd (Mrs. Lovett), and the exquisite Encores! production of Follies (Carlotta) alongside Donna Murphy, our Mrs. Astor at large.
Christine is a two-time Tony winner for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Real Thing and Rumors. We all know her iconic Tanya Chesham-Leigh of the Mamma Mia cinematic universe, so you'll forgive me if I neglect those performances in this list.
#1: "A Little Priest," Sweeney Todd (1999)
youtube
With Sweeney Todd raking in over $1.7 million weekly, let's start with one of many Sweeney Todd productions that's just so much better than what they've got going on at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre these days.
The act one closer is considered by many as Sondheim at his lyrical best. A comedic killer of a number, nailing the intricate lyrics would give even the strongest theatre veteran anxiety (I have seen many a delightful disaster and brutal butchery of this number), but Christine does so with aplomb.
This performance alongside Kelsey Grammar as Sweeney is from the 1999 Reprise! L.A. 20th anniversary concert production at the Ahmanson Theatre. Three years later, Christine would go on to reprise her role as Mrs. Lovett at The Kennedy Center opposite Broadway's leading man Brian Stokes Mitchell. Also featured in this production is another Gilded Age actress, but more on that later.
#2: "Everybody Wants to Do a Musical," Nick & Nora (1991)
youtube
Based on the book/film/tv Nick and Nora Charles, this musical is infamous for being one of the most notorious flops in Broadway history. It had a then-record breaking preview period of 71 shows, and closed after just nine performances, proving not even an all-star cast (including Joanna Gleason, Chris Sarandon, Debra Monk, and Faith Prince) and creative team can make a hit.
Here, Christine plays Tracy Gardner, a fading starlet whose comeback is threatened by an untimely murder. There's really not much that can be said about the plot, but if anyone wants me to recite an oral history of everything I know about this flop, DM me.
It's a miracle we even have a cast album to commemorate this...special show. A full bootleg can be found HERE on youtube, if you want to see this masterpiece for yourself. I can't imagine why you'd want to though.
#3: "A Fact Can Be a Beautiful Thing," Promises, Promises (1997)
youtube
Once again proving her comedic chops, here Christine plays a one-scene wonder barfly named Marge MacDougall in the 1997 Encores! production of Promises, Promises opposite Martin Short. The height difference really elevates the comedy. Her character shows up for one scene (and a half) and in every production, has stolen the show. You can see why. The number really has no plot value, but it's perfect in every way.
A note: Encores! for those unfamiliar, is a series of limited run concert-style productions put on by New York City Center. It was originally conceived 30 years ago to highlight hidden gems and forgotten pieces, but has included more mainstream shows in recent years (y'know, to keep the lights on).
Incidentally, Christine is not the only Gilded Age actress to take on this role to great success. The other actress has a...wildly different approach to the role. But more on that later...
#4: "I'm Still Here," Follies (2007)
youtube
I love Follies. I would commit atrocities you cannot fathom to have seen the 2007 Encores! production of Follies, starring fellow Gilded Ager Donna Murphy as Phyllis, Victoria Clark as Sally, and featuring Christine Baranski as Carlotta. Here, singing one of Sondheim's greatest hits, Christine plays an aged former Follies girl whose big number was cut, but is happy to serenade her audience with it now. My kingdom for a high quality bootleg of this show, please someone must have it.
Full disclosure: this is not my favorite rendition. That honor goes to Elaine Stritch in the Sondheim 80th Birthday Concert. But this one is damn good, now that I'm reviewing it. It showcases Christine's fantastic vocal and acting abilities, and that's Sondheim for you.
In 2015, Christine would go on to play Phyllis in the Royal Albert Hall production of Follies. And I love you, Christine, but you are a Carlotta through and through.
#5: "Welcome to the Theatre," Applause - Kennedy Center Honors (1997)
youtube
This past week, Christine Baranski honored opera diva Renee Fleming at the Kennedy Center Honors, but that was not only time. In 1997, she was one of three mega talents honoring the gorgeous, the glamorous, the golden girl from the Golden Age of Hollywood, Lauren Bacall.
She opened the tribute with a song from Bacall's Tony-winning Applause, a musical based on All About Eve. Side note: people have divisive opinions on Lauren Bacall's singing voice. I love it.
While Christine's isolated performance can be found, I elected to link to the full tribute so you can all enjoy this delight. Following Christine is my beloved Bebe Neuwirth, and the late Ann Reinking (singing songs unrelated to Lauren Bacall, but fuck it). The final trio of all three women is the stuff of my dreams. I need you to witness it too.
Bonus: "Hot for Howie"
Nothing I can say will add to this. I'll just let the song speak for itself.

Don’t get us wrong, the Australia-set NCIS: Sydney, premiering Stateside this Tuesday on CBS, boasts a terrific cast, and one that is 66% Australian (plus two Brits).
But Sydney native and CBS procedural vet Alex O’Loughlin was right there, people. (Well, somewhere. I’m not entirely sure what he is up to these days, three-and-a-half years after the Hawaii Five-0 reboot said aloha.)
As such, “Where the hell is Alex?” is a question I may have directly asked NCIS: Sydney creator Morgan O’Neill during our recent, in-depth convo.
O’Neill and I shared in a chuckle, after which he said, “Look, we haven’t written off the possibility of him popping up.
“Alex is a fantastic actor, as you would well know,” the Aussie EP added, before launching into a celebration of the land Down Under’s countless, fine contributions to the U.S. television scene. (Think Chuck‘s Yvonne Strahovski, House‘s Jesse Spencer, The Mentalist‘s Simon Baker, Damages‘ Rose Byrne, Fringe‘s Anna Torv and John Noble, Brotherhood‘s Jason Clarke…. The list goes on, and on.)
“I don’t know what it is in the water down here, but Australians have a tendency to kind of bat a bit out of our weight category when it comes to producing actors and creative people,” O’Neill proudly observed. “So, I’m pretty sure Alex will pop up somewhere. He’s a fantastic actor and a good guy.”
Tumblr media
In NCIS: Sydney, U.S. NCIS Agents and members of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) are grafted into a “multi-national task force, to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.” Olivia Swann (Legends of Tomorrow) and Todd Lasance (Spartacus: War of the Damned) lead the cast as, respectively, NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey and her 2IC AFP counterpart, Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey. Rounding out the merged team are Sean Sagar (Fate: The Winx Saga) as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle (Bad Behaviour) as AFP liaison officer Constable Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel (Neighbours) as AFP forensic scientist Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson, and William McInnes (Blue Heelers) as AFP forensic pathologist Dr. Roy Penrose.

A Whole New Chapter, Part 2
Back There, Back Here
When I left off last July, we were heading back to the US for a short visit, just over 5 weeks to be exact. Busy time! We arrived back at our home in Nevada to find everything as we’d left it, well, except for the weeds that had taken over the back yard. The first week back was pretty much recovering from the travel, and for me, spending some quality time with the weed-whacker clearing the back yard, or at least enough of it for us to get out the back door and find the chairs and barbecue. I figured that was enough and I’d find someone to finish the job, but I never did. Oh well, I’ll have something to do next time we’re back.
Our first adventure was drive to Salt Lake City to visit Tommy, Hannah, and Felix. And of course, Rolf, their rather huge Lab/Newfoundland mix. For a few nice days we enjoyed spending time with Felix – he’s in that very enjoyable phase around 6 months, lots of smiles and giggles.
Tumblr media
After returning home, we  had a nice visit from Georgia’s son Matt and wife Morgan, and her son Anthony. And dogs Ripley (Max’s sister) and Anthony’s Lab Maxx (we call him Big Max). We showed them around our new area and spent one HOT afternoon at Lake Lahontan, which is about ½ hour from us. Nice lake with good facilities, it was just HOT! Next day we drove up to Lake Davis in Plumas County, where the weather was much cooler and we had a picnic, swam, and fished.
Georgia actually talked Matt and Morgan into leaving Ripley with us for two weeks (I think she pulled the guilt trip about how much we missed Max).
Tumblr media
Back up to Plumas County to visit our friends Todd and Kathleen Solomon, and Max’s sister and BFF Lizzie. On the way we met up with our friends John & Judy Lullo, and Robert & Yvonne Ware for a good lunch and catch-up session, then stopped into the Mohawk Community Center which was having an open house – another chance to meet up with more of our Graeagle friends. A fun dinner at the Solomon’s followed, where we were joined our friends Cliff Romig and Cathy Davies, who have Max’s brother Olaf. A real doggy reunion, too bad Max had to miss it!
The next day we went boating at Bullards Bar reservoir with the Solomons plus Todd’s grandson and a couple of his friends. It’s great to go boating with young people; they’re happy to ski or wakeboard all day, leaving us old folks to relax and drink beer. I did get talked into wakeboarding, which I haven’t done in a long time, time as measured in decades. I’m proud to say I got up 2 out of 2 tries, but quickly did a face plant each time. Maybe I'll try again in another 20 years.
Tumblr media
The boating activity I'm more suited for. Yes there’s a beer in my missing hand.
Tumblr media
Almost done, but not quite. Back from Graeagle, it was time to go to Las Vegas for Georgia’s family’s annual August Birthday celebration. We celebrated Dignah’s and Dinah’s birthdays on the appropriate days with a nice lunch, and met up with the usual stream of family and friends that always accompanies this event. We’d had Ripley with us all this time, and by agreement, we left her with Georgia’s sister Dalene to take back to San Jose and her regular family.
Whew, that was a busy, and quick, 5 weeks! Back to Fernley with a day to pack and lock things up, then off to the airport and back to the Philippines!
Manila
We’d timed our arrival to be one day ahead of Georgia’s Mom Dolly, her sister Dalene, and cousin Lena, who were headed over for a long visit. As we did just the day before, they arrived before 6am. No problem for us, due to jetlag we were up at 4 already!
We’d hired Arturo, the driver who took us on our road trip earlier this year, to help us with the airport pickup. A good thing too, with the three ladies packed up for a 3 month trip, their luggage filled two vans! But we also had another motive. After getting everyone settled into Dolly's house, Arturo drove us to Kawayan Cove to pick up Max! Max was of course happy to see us, but after spending maybe 15 seconds jumping around and giving us kisses, he headed to his toy box to find his favorite for us to play with. Then with a quick turn-around, we were on our way back to Manila. Besides (I hope) being happy to be back with us, Max got to see lots of the moo moo cows who just hang out on the highway. Be sure to turn the sound on!
Max also got to see monkeys along side the road; we found that he has a very different, unfriendly, reaction to monkeys. I think he still remembers the incident in Vigan!
Danny, Ben, and Lachlan!
Besides being timed for the arrival of Georgia’s mom et. al., our travel was also timed to meet Danny, Ben, and Lachie, who soon arrived from Sydney for an 8-day stay! We picked them up at the airport in the evening, spent the night at Dolly’s in Manila, then headed back to Kawayan Cove the next day.
Tumblr media
Lachie is 1 ½ years old now, a great age, and he has the looks and personality to charm anyone. Especially here, you just don’t see many VERY white, red-headed children! Besides being a hit with all the ladies at Dolly’s house, anywhere we took him it seems like he gathered a crowd! Everyone wanted a look at him, asked lots of questions, wanted to meet his dads, etc.
Lachie loves tractors, and one day a big excavator on the way to a construction site stopped in front of our house. Lachie loved it! I think the guys taking a break (from putting the tires under the treads as it moved uphill) had just as much fun seeing Lachie as he did seeing the excavator!
Tumblr media
Lachie also loves swimming, so naturally we spent quite a bit of time in the pool. Unfortunately the beach was too rough for swimming due to a passing (far away, thankfully) typhoon, but we did have a nice lunch at the club.
Tumblr media
On the weekend we took the boys to our favorite resort in Anilao/Mabini. The one with the goats, which Lachie enjoyed feeding.
Tumblr media
We had planned to do a dive day, but with the rough seas we figured diving wouldn’t be too good, so we just relaxed around the pool instead. Lachie was good with that. And the food in the restaurant too!
Tumblr media
All too soon it was time for the boys to go, on to their next stop, Bali. Gotta feel sorry for them, right? Oh well, we had a great visit and hope to see them again soon, here or Sydney or wherever!
Tumblr media
Merry Christmas!
Yes, it’s September, and the Christmas season has started. Christmas decorations in the malls, holiday music. I’m usually not ready for this until after Thanksgiving, but it’s the tradition here. Christmas is celebrated in the ‘-ber’ months (September, October, November, and December). Just go with it.
Tumblr media
Typhoons
I mentioned that a typhoon was making waves and stirring up the water. It was super typhoon Yagi (a 'super typhoon' classification is equivalent to a category 5 hurricane) which fortunately was only a tropical storm as it passed over northern Luzon. Although we were seeing wind and larger than usual waves when the boys were here, shortly after they left the weather significantly worsened with high winds, strong surf, and heavy, continuous rains, lasting for 4 days. And this is when the storm that was 700 miles (1120km) northwest of us! I took these screenshots from two weather apps, the first showing the storm path, passing over northern Luzon as a tropical storm before strengthening into a typhoon, and the solid cloud cover extending as far as southern Palawan. We’re at the blue dot, Palawan is the long, skinny island to the southwest of us. The second app shows the wind strengths and flow – you can clearly see the circular storm center, but also look at the effect it’s having on the winds, pulling them up from the southwest between Palawan and Vietnam, and straight at us. It’s just amazing how huge an area the storm impacts!
Tumblr media
While I’m being weather-geeky, around the first of April I installed a weather station, with a digital rain gauge. As I write this, it reads 1509 mm of rain since then, about 5 ½ months. That’s 59.4” for you non-metric types. California should build a water pipeline to the Philippines. Hey Gavin! No problem, just raise taxes to pay for it!
Fruits Loops
We finally have bananas! We’ve planted many banana plants (they are not trees, actually the largest member of the grass family); some have blown over (they’re not very strong), and some just haven’t produced any fruit. Plus they’re pretty ugly so they need to produce to justify being in our yard. Well finally one is making bananas. The conical purple thing is the flower; as layers come off it reveals another row of baby bananas. I’ve never seen them at this stage, so I’m excited to watch them develop, and hopefully I’ll get to taste some. I’ll keep you posted.
Tumblr media
I’ve reported on many strange tropical fruits over the years, but it’s been quite a while since I’ve had something new to try. We took a quick trip to Dolly’s farm in Alangilan (Georgia had to help with some family business), and waiting for us were Marang. If you attached a pointy nose you’d have a cute little hedgehog – the spines are soft, and underneath is a skin that’s easily pulled open to reveal the sweet and creamy fruit inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
People say the taste is somewhere between Jackfruit and Durian, with little of the pungent odor of the Durian. I thought it was quite tasty!
And then there’s Durian. The king of tropical fruits. Not new to me but always worth a mention. As soon as we walked into the farm house in Alangilan I knew there were Durian lurking somewhere. That unmistakable smell, even from unopened fruit, that people describe as anything from sweaty socks to a soiled baby diaper. One of the very few foods that made Andrew Zimmern (Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel) gag and refuse to eat. Banned to carry on most airlines and public transportation. But being blessed with a rather poor sense of smell, I’m able to get it past my nose and into my mouth; I actually enjoy the creamy and sweet fruit!
Nang Belen getting ready to unleash the monster...

Sunset(s) of the Week
A couple nice ones, first from Mabini (I must admit that the camera captured more than we could see, especially colors in the clouds, but a nice sunset by any means)

And a view from home.

All for now, stay healthy and happy!

Prey for the Hunter (1990)
Tumblr media
As I write this review, Prey for the Hunter does not have a page on Wikipedia. I might’ve foreseen that. While this film is not “bad” in the traditional sense, there’s nothing about it that stands out. Its premise has been done time and time again but every other instance had some kind of spice added to it to make it unique and that ingredient was skipped this time.
While reporting a civil war in an unnamed African country, Simon Rush (Todd Jensen) loses all of his supplies - including his passport. At a bar, he meets a group of big game hunters: Bob Jenkins (André Jacob), his niece Yvonne (Michelle Bestbier), Jason Taylor (Evan J. Klisser), Alex Lee (David Butler) and Eric du Pont (Alan Granville). They agree to help him get home until Bob decides to spice up his safari by hunting a different kind of prey…
Yup, it’s basically another adaptation of The Most Dangerous Game. That’s it. There’s no satire, no commentary on society. It's not choosing a new comedic, dramatic, horrific or even action-oriented angle. This makes Prey for the Hunter the kind of film that would be "better" if it was worse. At first, the hunt for Simon has the hunters chasing him with paint guns - a harmless game. When Bob suggests he and his buddies swap out their weapons for the lethal kind, you think it’s only because he’s tired of being given the runaround by what he thought would be an easy mark. As we find out during the final stretch, his motivation is far more conventional and (unfortunately) reasonable. Well, as reasonable as you can call motivation that involves killing a human being. His buddies are intimidated into joining in at first and then Simon is framed (I bet you can guess who frames him) so that everyone genuinely believes he is dangerous. Everyone except Yvonne, who takes a sudden and puzzling liking to the reporter. To me, a game of life and death in the middle of nowhere, Africa, doesn’t scream “Let’s have sex in the dirt, and then again in some random river” but what do I know?
Prey for the Hunter is devoid of nauseating performances, sleazy gore, bad special effects, cringe dialogue, shoddy camerawork or continuity and/or logical errors - aside from the ones I mentioned earlier. You'd think that would disqualify it from being a bad movie, but a film is not merely a checklist of things to get right, it must be engaging and worth recommending to others. Even if you've never seen a film like this before, I wouldn't endorse Prey for the Hunter. I was tempted to give it a middle-of-the-road 2.5/5, but who am I kidding? I won’t remember anything about this picture except its basic premise - and that’s only because the title tells you everything you need to know about it - within a week. (August 4, 2022)

WARNING: Trigger Warning for rape
Smiffina Episodes - Episode 209
Picking up from 208, Cameron is screaming Kerry's name and a shocked Smithy is trying to retain control of the situation.
Gabriel finds Kerry amongst the blast, she's out cold but in one piece. She soon comes round but is out of it, demanding to know where James is. Gabriel tells her he's dead. Trevor is arrested and Andrea is shunned by Tony for telling the wife it was not a real bomb. She contacts her Editor. In the ambulance, Cameron tells Kerry it's not her fault and also tells her to say he wasn't there when she gives her statement. Gabriel continues to twist the knife claiming Smithy wouldn't endanger her on purpose... would he?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally alone now the situation is contained, Smithy is clearly shellshocked. The Top Brass arrive back at the station to find the press already clambouring for information. Bruce, Andrea's Editor, is asking intrusive questions of things that should not be known. In front of the press, Julie - James' partner and Willet's ex, asks why an officer told her it was a fake device. Gina arranges a hot debrief and tells the officers not to talk to the press as they already know more than they should. "Does she really think we'd talk to the press?" "people do." "Yeah, greedy stupid people."
At the hospital, Kerry is in shock and can barely do her uniform buttons. Gabriel tells her to blame it on the stress, pressure and distractions but not herself. Later in the car he twists things and tells Kerry to take her time and get her story straight. He lies and tells her he saw her running back when she knew she'd screwed up by following Cameron. Kerry's guilt worsenes as she believes him.
Gina tells Adam she's arranged a debrief and that she's left a message for Smithy who she bets feels guilty for how it all played out. Adam says CID will interview everyone seperatley instead due to the complaint by Julie Willet. Noone has seen Smithy since. In the locker room, Yvonne promises Kerry she didn't tell anyone and tells her to go public if it already is. She says she's on her side and she doesn't want to fight. Kerry asks for space. She wants to be left alone and breaks down in tears on Yvonne's shoulder.
Andrea insists she didn't purposely tell Julie that it was a fake bomb and that she was trying to reassure her. Tony agrees that she shouldn't have been at the scene in a position like that as an inexperienced probationer but that needs must. She then drops another clanger by mentioning Kerry. Sam is suspicious, calling for Kerry next. Kerry tells Sam she volunteered to look after James and keep him isolated. She tells her there were no distractions other than Julie shouting and James shouting back to her. She says he couldn't take it anymore and had to remove the bomb. She said she yelled to him not to touch it. "I had no idea he'd do what he did. I couldn't stop him. Then it was too late. I thought he was being reasonable and listening to me. But he wasn't, he had his own ideas and it's not my fault. I didn't make it happen. I couldn't stop it happening!" - Very telling of her mindframe. As she leaves Cameron confronts her and asks if there's anything he should know about from her interview.
Gabriel takes the CCTV tapes for the alley and carpark and steals the third incriminating tape. Smithy is still nowhere to be seen. Gary is worried that the others will mention the rumours, Gabriel tells him not to worry, Kerry's only doing it for attention and noone believes her. Gary tells Tony what has happened when he questions it. Gabriel tells Jim he was stood by the outer cordon when the bomb went off and saw nothing. He tells Jim that Cameron wasn't with Smithy where he should be as Smithy was calling for him.
Cameron is called through before he can follow Kerry - Jim and Sam want to interview him together, in Sam's office. Cameron is suspicious and Sam covers by saying it's because he was recording the log. She points out that Cameron did not add where he was at the time of the explosion. He claims he ran to the carpark after - she asks him again where he was before it. Cameron says he was at the inner cordon. Jim says they know he wasn't. They ask again where he was. He confesses he didn't think it was right that Kerry was dealing with the bomb victim and he went to check on her. He says Kerry didn't need his help and admits - reluctantly - he was there when the explosion happened. Sam asks why he hasn't submitted his clothes for forensics and why he didn't tell them. He loses his temper and shouts that Kerry was raped and should never have been given such a responsible and stressful role. Cameron admits that Kerry hasn't reported it and tells them that it was Smithy who raped her.
Sam goes straight to Gina. "Smithy? No. No, I don't believe it." Gina would never have made him acting duty officer if she knew the rumours. Gina wants to talk to Kerry to see if she will confirm it because until she does or denies it, its just gossip and malicious gossip at that. Kerry is called to Gina's office where she asks her, gently, if she told Cameron that she was raped by Smithy. She refuses to tell her before Gina points out how serious it is and that she has to. Kerry admits that they were in the pub together, they were drinking and they went back to Smithy's flat but she doesn't remember anything after that. She says she knew she didn't want to have sex but it happened anyway. She said they were in the hall and that Smithy was 'like the cat with the cream and I'm thinking 'no way, not in a million years'. She can't say for certain however if she actually told him she didn't consent before she changes her mind again and says she's sure she resisted and said no.
After her talk with Gina, Kerry physically drags Cameron out of custody and asks him why told CID and insists it's because of male pride because Smithy told him she was easy. 'Oh no, am I going out with the station slapper?' She asks why he believes Smithy and he holds her and comforts her before asking if she'll make it official. Kerry pulls away and shouts she won't be shoved around by anyones agenda and told what to do anymore.
Adam and Gina discuss the allegation and Adam is shocked. Gina tells him that Kerry needs to shit or get off the pot - make it official or issue a denial. Smithy is not answering his radio. Gary tells Jim that Smithy was on top of his game and should have no questions to answer as he did his best and did not take his eye off the ball at all. Yvonne tells Sam that Smithy should never have put Kerry in that position because she was fragile. She insists that Smithy is the one who should take the blame.
Caught by Adam smoking in her office, Gina has to venture outside where she tries ringing Smithy again - and finally hears his phone ringing. She tracks him down on the roof where he was hiding for some peace and quiet to get his head together. He tells Gina that Kerry came back from the pub of her own free will. He says noone initiated it specifically, they kissed outside the pub and they both wanted it. He calls it 'a drunken kneetrembler, nothing more nothing less. It wasn't pretty but it certainley wasn't rape.' He wants to know if Kerry is making it official and wants to make a statement if she has. He almost breaks into tears, claiming he doesn't know why she's making such an malicious allegation and says he won't work with her. Gina says they have to go and talk to CID because it came out in the debrief and that he should avoid contact with Kerry, especially alone.
Smithy finally receives his debrief interview, explaining what happened at the scene and why he made the decisions he did. He swallows back tears as he explains that a lot of it was down to the poor situation they were in. Kerry was the most senior officer there after Tony who was comms officer. CO19 were not able to get to the scene, they had an armed gunman with a bomb. Things were not ideal. Smithy even stands up for Kerry and insists he's sure that their 'private difficulties' didn't even enter into the situation.
As Smithy moves through the corridors, the station falls silent and they stop and stare at him. He's oblivious though, it's Kerry that he's looking at from the other end of the corridor and she's doing the same back. He approaches her and asks her why she's doing it. Kerry is silent and walks off with Yvonne. Gary is one of the few officers who make his allegience to Smithy known. Smithy finds Gina and asks her why Yvonne thinks that she believes Kerry. Gina explains she's both their inspector and can't take sides. "That's just the inspectors answer and you know it!" She takes him into the briefing room and says she has to treat it as they would if they didn't know the victim. She wants to stand him down - using James' death as the reason - to get the immediate heat out of the situation and him away from the station. Smithy tells her that he didn't rape Kerry. Gina answers immediatley that she believes him.
The CCTV proves that James was responsible for the explosion - because they didn't have the third tape. Cameron tells Kerry they're in the clear. She answers that he is - she isn't because of the allegation. Gabriel watches the stolen CCTV video, it clearly showing Kerry turning away to look at Cameron for a few seconds before she turned back to him. Gabriel tells Kerry that he is her guardian angel, he hid the third tape that 'shows you deserting your post. Don't worry sweetheart, I'll look after it. It's safe with me'.
Andrea tells Bruce, her editor, that noone was negligent. She tells him that she was the one with the question mark over her so they couldn't use it anyway. He pressures her for a story and says she better not be holding out on him. She reluctantly tells him about Smithy and Kerry.
Quick summary of Episode 210.
Yep, it makes it into the press...and Gabriel suspects Andrea of being the one who planted it. She in turn tells Gina that it was Gabriel who she suspects.
Gina sends Kerry home, telling her to take a few days off and clear her head and decide once and for all if she's going to make it official or not.]

Im going to add to and edit this post later. This is something I'm working on on my family tree. This is from my family tree and a section I'm researching right now. Some of the Bennett siblings and some of the Lord siblings ended up as couples. I also grew up in the the church of Christ and I was looking to see if I had a family history of this way back in my family. There isn't much and I'm grasping at straws with this. Sarah Bagby and Joseph Noah Cantrell were my great grandparents. Here is Sarah Bagby's parents and grandparents. I've been to the graves of Joe and Sarah and Bill and Nancy and Nancy parents Bill and Sarah. Sou great grandmother was named after both of her grandmas I was told.

"Webster county state of Missouri. I, William W. Shaver a legal minister of the gospel, did solemnize the rites of matrimony between William S. Bagby and Nancy C. Lord on the 8th day of August 1872.
William W. Shaver
A Minister of the Gospel"
In red is from the real written copy that I saw in online archives but it was blurry when I did a screen shot or the other option made it to small to read so I wrote it out.
You may notice Ws Bagby and Nancy C. Bagby in the church list. They were my 2x great grandparents. I looked at some info for William Wilson Shaver. He was also a minister in the Christian church and a part of the Stone-Campbell/Restoration Movement. My most immediate family subscribes to the church of Christ which is part of the same movement. I never knew where it started. I think this might be a coincidence. This is on my dad's side and actually on his father's side. I never met my grandfather because he passed away before I was born. It was my understanding that he didn't go to church. I know my granny did with us. I know my grandfather's father was a bad person and very mean. It was his wife who was the daughter of Ws Bagby and Nancy Lord.
Also Nancy Lord Bagby's Parents were William (bill) Lord and Sarah J. Bennett. Nancy was the only child ever listed on census records with her parents. I don't have any indication that there were ever more. This feels really unusual for the time but perhaps they couldn't have more.
I noticed that Sarah Lord is in the church list. Bill Lord was also still alive and I don't see him in the church member list. Ws Bagby's Parents were John Bagby and Sarah. I believe that Sarah's Maiden name was Todd and that she was the sister of Thomas Todd...he was the minister of the church members listed above. John and Sarah (Todd) Bagby moved to Texas and we're not here to be in this church. In fact I'm unsure of when they passed away and they may not have been alive at this time... I do not know what church they went to if any. I also can't prove that Sarah was one of the Todds but a lot of the family researchers believe this.
Here is another side note. This appears to be a very tight knit group. I wouldn't expect any less. Below is something on the find a grave site. This is the grave for the daughter of William Shaver who married my 2x great grandparents. You might notice her married name is Isabell Yandle. You might notice this name on the church list of Thomas Todd's church members. Her husband was John W. Yandle according to this site and the photo of the tombstone. I haven't looked for documents to prove this. I don't have any reason to think they are related to me but honestly anyone In this church list could be as tight knit as they were. I'm still looking at the members. I will say a lot of my ancestors and related people are in the New Grove Cemetery.

I will give updates as I have them.
