please forgive my poor articulation.but i need to scream this from the rooftops!!

art is so amazing and i mean all art; painting, photography, sculpting, music, everything! just creating!!! lets not mention my hate for ai 'art' It is so important to me and ive been having these conversations recently about what you love about art what about it gives you passon and drive.

my friend loves how you tell something with a piece and what you can tell, art can have so much meaning and story behind it and it can say so much! and i think it is amazing and that passion you can see in peoples art from realism to contemporary right now she is painting a large canvas and shes useing this guy from jojos but hes like a cyborg and i think he gets cut in half now this i simportant, so she i susing him to convey life and showing your true self so his guts and flesh are spilling out of him but you an also see the metal in him and the contrast is great and its like this brutal thing but the backround is soft, and its like UGH AMAZING! anyway her art teacher finds passion in the prosess of art, and how you can use things,

Personally i love being able to captue (photoraphy) the small things and just the reality of something and its not always nice but its still is soo important to me, like for example if you were on some high mountian landscape that is itself is beautiful but then take a look at your feet and the small thnigs around you that just make this all work, the beauty in small things drives me crazy! in a good way! or like when your high up CN tower for example (expessaly at night) you can see all the lights and working of this big city machine and this machine needs ann these small pecies to work and function but as an indivual you feel so insignifigant, you can see all these little lights and every one is a story a life but then there is just a line where there is no more lights because that where the human life stops, and to make it better there are still lights in the sky the stars I LOVE THE STARS!!! and it would be such a heartwrenching scene if you could ACTUALLY SEE the stars above the city lights but you cant because poloution of all kinds.... but the sight, its so beautiful i love it i could sit there and watch all the lights move for hours. and i feel this way about soo many things! you in a music consert/festival, the falls i love it all.

ANOTHER THING! we were saying these conversations are so intresting and smart and have DEPTH! they are smart conversations, she is verry smart academically inclined but she still has the art 'side' in her and while they do conflict and have battle they are important to one another and can complement eachother beautifuly! im not verry academicly smart so please forgive my poor articulation. but we can still have these conversations with DEPTH! and we were saying that you just couldent have these important, smart conversations with some people (teachers in this context) for example our bio teacher you coud have these amazing conversations about art but he has that arty part of his brain! he is passionite and loves bio but he also loves music! and this can apply to sevral other of our intelectual teachers and students!! so many smart and science geard people have a arty side to them and they are all diffrent!! not just science people ,but science always seem sto be he opposeing side to art hence my stance. honestly science is beauty too like all these tiny tiny things working moving to make one part of one thing so on and so forth just to make one person function. LOVE IT!

art can tell you horrors, beauty and nothing but in a way that says somethting too.

⚠️KIND OF SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 1-2 OF VLADS ROUTE⚠️

Vlads route is finally here😭. I'm currently reading it, but I ran out of chapter tickets, right when Faust and Charles makes an aperance. When I read the conversation between Vlad and Shakespeare I was getting super nervous, and then Vlad tries to kill him?! (I don’t really know, I can be wrong. BUT in my defense I was half asleep when read it and when I'm writing this. Definitely looking forward to read the rest of his route! I'm super excited and hope that Charles' route comes soon! 😭

Here I'll refer to them just as the bats or one of the bats, or just choose a random one of them simply because I don't know the exact person that'd fit in the au with Marinette so I'm just leaving it up to you but... yeah.

Violinist Marinette. The Waynes got invited to a concert in which Mari played a solo. And they're all just enchanted with her talent.

Marinette a Badass Dancer. None of the bats is a dancer in this AU and I don't really have any direction where this would go, but i just had a scene where she kicks their asses even though she doesn't have much (or any) exprience in martial arts. Just her spinning and kicking one of them mid-spin in the face or... somewhere else...

So the scene is a Wayne Gala, right? Jagged Stone dares Marinette to sing a song on a stage (there’s live music band, i guess?). Everyone’s mesmerised by her voice and Jagged can be heard screaming “That’s my niece!” in the backround. I really want her to sing Creep , a cover by Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox ft. Haley Reinhart or Crazy in Love , also a cover made by Sofia Karlberg, though any other song is fine too

Bats and Marinette in a band. That's it. That's the whole AU.

One of the bats is sitting under a tree, all peacefully and relaxed, but then they look up to see a random girl with dark blue hair (??) just hanging upside down from a branch like an actual freaking bat. She gives them a heart attack.

Another Au with singing Marinette lol. In this one Marinette likes to sing in a park every other day and Damian comes here one day and hears her and is like “wow.”, and since then he comes there everyday in hopes of hearing her sing and getting her number. And maybe Luka or Adrien play while she sings, that’d be cool

Guys, Marinette and the Waynes being neighbours. No, but imagine. Them seeing some girl watering plants every week for a month or two and then not seeing her for a long period of time, and they're kinda worried, but then she's back and they're confused, because where the hell she'd been, the house looked like not used and just where the hell was she? Marinette seeing some... Weird things happening in the Wayne backyard. Balconies being in front of each other, so they're balcony neighbours too (the romance, the fluff, even the angst, guys). Marinette going to them with baked goods and introducing herself as their neighbour. Them going to hers and welcoming her with a basket of Alfred's cooking. 

Jason has to participate in a dating show because he lost a bet and Mari's one of the participants too...

Duke needs a date to a wedding (i don't know whose, your choice) and Marinette's his best friend, so be my fake date to this wedding?

The greatest showman AU. (Sibling dickinette. On the trapeze-)

So in this, WE is a dance company, and Marinette's maybe an intern in a fashion department. One day Dick's going to one of the practice rooms where's been scheduled a meeting with a designer for his costume for the next show. Instead he's met with a girl he sees for the first time, practically flying on the dance floor. Just as he's about to reveal himself the rest comes and it turns out this is the fashion designer and it seems as no one knows she's an amazing dancer too

Teachers AU + Rivals AU = utter chaos. Them teaching the same subject and competing for their class' loves and/or arguing whose close is better. [Bonus points if everyone's thinking they hate each others guts, but they're secretly dating]

Fencers AU - on the same team on different teams, your choice. (And this honestly suits with Kagami too. I'm up for kagami x bat/marinette)

Damian in the park with Mar'i, but he's having trouble, because this kid has so much energy. How?? Just when he thinks he can take a breath, he notices Mar'i has wandered off and is talking to a young woman, so he rushes there and try to apologize, but she says it's no problem at all. Suddenly this gorgeous girl offers him her help. It looks like Mar'i has taken liking to her and he's so tired, so he agrees and for the rest day watches two Mari's play together and falls in love with the older one. Plotwist: this was plan all along. Mar'i is the ultimate wingwoman.

All the Wayne siblings decided to go to one of those haunted houses for a halloween and there's this petite girl who tagged along their group somehow. They didn't expect to see this tiny girl punching the worker dressed as a monster and knocking the daylight out of him. But it was so worth getting kicked out.

Marinette's a ghost and these four men came to her house and apparently they're doing a ghost investigation?? I mean, she was getting a bit lonely and bored, maybe it's time to "gain some friends" (read: scare the living out of them).

Pretty much the above but with bat/s as ghost/s and Marinette as the paranormal investigator with her team (i honestly want one of them to be Kagami, i don't know why). In both you need to decide who's a skeptic and who believes. It's fun, the ghost is trying to scare them off, but they're stubborn.

Sibling dickinette where Marinette calls her older brother everytime she wants to get out of a date and so he pretends to "arrest" her. (And then maybe dick decides to play a matchmaker and sets her up with one of his adoptive siblings)

Marinette as a lawyer. Her going against LexCorps who framed Wayne Enterprises for something. Or maybe Bruce was accused of murder (that he obviously did not commit) and now she has to prove his innocence. I just really want to read about badass lawyer Marinette, guys

Merlin AU. Is there any AUs with Marinette being Merlin and saving Arthur's ass (I honestly think it should be Chloe, no joke)?

Mominette where she adopts Cassandra. I just imagined them going to ballet lessons together and cooking and now I'm soft.

Marinette got dared by her friends to set a trap for the passerby that involved eggs, toy train and glitter and to then to pretend they're her ex and they cheated in her, and Jason had the misfortune to be that passerby. (Yes, this is probably crack lol)

Tim can rap. Marinette can rap. What could go wrong?? (Yes, this is probably crack too)

There's this girl they see every year when to go on trick-or-treating and she always has the most amazing or scariest costumes. But Damian will not go without a fight and so every year they compete over who has the better costume. This year they just so conveniently dressed up as the famous Halloween couple.

Jon is 17 now and it seems as no one is interested in him. He jokingly tells Damian he supects theres a ghost that's in love with him and they keep away any potential lovers from him. He doesn't know how much he's right. Marinette though, is freaking out.

Marinette decided to take a part-time job at a local pool as a life guard. There's a sudden increase in people coming to said pool but also a dramatic increase in people pretending to drown. Conner is one of them.

Marinette plays a therapist to all of the batfam. The amount of the ridiculous problems she had to listen to... She could write a book and she would make millions out of it, she swears.

"Some say "revenge is a dish best served cold.", then i read "revenge is sweet", so i came to conclusion revenge is ice cream." Huh, so that'd explain the sudden disappearance of ice cream in whole Gotham Jason had been hearing about for the past week from Bruce. The question is, what that petite bluenette is planning to do and who is going to be a victim of her ice cream revenge?

Tim had been in coma for a month after the drug bust, and he has just woken up. The first thing he does? He picks up the argument he and Marinette had been having before he's been put into a coma.

The couple at the place Jason had been at, started making out loudly, so he started making loud noises while eating his ice cream. They stopped. And he got this cute barista's phone number when she was walking past him.

Marinette's at the spa when she overhears two guys betting who can eat more slices of cucumber (that were supposed to be put on their eyelids) and she decided to participate. Safe to say they were all banned from all the spas in Gotham

Can i please get Jason/Duke/anyone making up a bedtime story for Marinette after she woke up from a nasty nightmare? I need it

Every morning and night Marinette pretends to be asleep just so she can feel Damian pull her closer, kiss her temple and whisper how much he loves her

Roy listening to Jason complaining about each first encounter of her girlfriend with his siblings and Bruce. Each is more ridiculous than the one before. He listens to it, after he and Marinette had gone through their own weird af first meeting.

Dick was so busy laughing at the bluenette who'd just walked into a post, he ran into the same post minute later. She asked him out... After she finished laughing and telling him karma's a bitch

Dick likes to think he's the reason Jason and Marinette got married. To his last days he will brag about how at his and Kori's wedding Marinette caught the bouquet, tripped and Jay caught her.

Jason asked Marinette on a date to one of the restaurant the WE owned. Then as a test, he told her he couldn't pay for all the expensive dishes they ordered. She took his hand and they ran out of the building. He's convinced he's going to marry her.

how do u know what to draw..... i always draw Boring ppl in Boring poses doing nothing it doesnt feel worthy of posting

I’m not the best at explaining my drawing process but here are few tips for making an interesting illustration : ) It got a bit long so I’m putting it under the cut!

- Browse pinterest for inspiration - I’m often looking through my wall before drawing and if there’s anything interesting I’m trying to ask myself why I like this piece. Is it because of the colours, theme, lines or composition? Would I like to create something that has the same quality as this artwork?

- Go for a walk - when I don’t know what to draw I usally take a short walk in the woods without a phone and headphones or anything that would distract me. I just let myself think about anything - stories, scenarios, colours or themes that I like in art. Even if you won’t come up with anything a refresment and a reset will be helpful in your work process.

- Think about colours and light. I really like dramatic lighting and high contasts in my works recently, and believe me - good lighting can turn an uniteresting bust artwork into very expressive piece. Same with colour - a fragment that has high contrast and saturation can change an artwork diametrically.

- Doodle before you draw for real! Let yourself be free and experiment, warm up and simply have fun before making something bigger.

- Think about the story behind the piece - why are these characters here? What are they doing? What is their relationship? Are there any things that would symbolise or mean something to a character?

- Don’t distract yourself on initial phase of a drawing. I’m a very big podcast/backround noise fan but I usually don’t listen to anything while doing a sketch because I know taht it will be easier for me to concentarte and make a good sketch.

- Start with shilouettes of characters to make your composition more dynamic and easy to read. Interesting pose of a person you draw gives them a lot more of a character! Also mix and match styles! Go crazy on character design!

I’ve had a bad week, and I wasn't able to write anything because I was living in my own head. But now I need to talk about confidence, and why abusive parents work so hard to crush it.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I got away from abusive parents by making illustrations, and working as a freelance artist. They were making sure to sabotage me from getting any kind of ordinary job, but they didn't exactly expect me to find a way to make money online. They did a lot to sabotage my confidence in drawing tho, and for the longest time I had absolutely zero hope in ever becoming any kind of artist. I know it would have meant a lot to me to read about someone else having as little hope as me succeeding. So I'll write this.

I've been drawing constantly during my childhood, and I was majorly bad at it. I still enjoyed it, so I did it anyway. I had experiences of teachers taking something I was drawing during their class and then humiliating me in front of entire class for it. I had people trying physically to stop me from drawing because it was "bad for me". I had people drawing obscene symbols all over my drawings, and insulting it from every possible angle. I've gotten into fights with those who regularly stole my bag only to ruin all drawings in it.

I had people tell me artists make very little money and even if I made it, I wouldn't be able to live off of it. My parents were mostly of that opinion, it wouldn't create profit so I was stupid for doing it. They also thought things I made were horrible, and I learned very fast to just hide it all. Even if I was bad at it, I was living thru it, there was no other way for me to express anything.

But I didn't dare to draw seriously. I wasn't showing that much progress. I drew characters and faces and they were all mostly distorted. I never even colored them in. I was scared to give it my all, because I would inevitably discover that I was indeed, bad at this. That I had no hope, even if it was only thing that made me feel something.

It wasn't until I was 20 something that I sat down and tried to really create something, make an entire painting. I was already out of hope, it was just to see what would happen. And then I made another one. And then I realized that even though I never made backgrounds before, I was getting good at them very fast. Progress was obvious from one image to another. And I never knew that. I was bad at drawing characters. I was bad at faces and anatomy and postures and face expressions. But I was naturally good at making backrounds. I could never figure that out before that exact moment I started making them. I published what I made and somehow things picked up. People requested me to draw for them. I would do it for free because at that point mere hint of acknowledgment meant the world to me. In few years I got a project, to work on an illustration book. My parents noticed I was up to something, and immediately told me all there was to it: I was being a complete idiot. I would never get paid for anything I did. I would never see any kind of money. Even if I was paid the money would be stolen before I ever saw it. It was mere luck I got this project and I would probably never get another project to work on again. I was stupid for getting my hopes up.

But I did, I got another project, and when I came to tell them so I got "You spend too much time on that computer" and I was shut down. Whenever they noticed I was excited and working they would create a trauma event that would knock me out for days, disable me from working. If they couldn't convince me that I was horrible at drawing, they would make sure I was physically unable to.

I remember I saw a story of a person before, who posted their early drawings and explained how they got away from abusive home just by making these. And these weren't high quality, they weren't exceptional, I felt "I could do that" while looking at them. And surely if this person made it, why not me? And it led me into a big secret I didn't realize before. You don't have to be exceptionally good. You don't have to be among the best. You don't have to be crazy talented. There is work for artists of every level, and every focus. Most people don't even have the money to pay for the best. They're looking for amateurs, someone who will just get it done for cheap. It doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't have to be exceptional. And that works for every trade. You don't have to be the best in order to do it. There's work for all kinds of levels. You don't have to worry if whole bunch of people are better than you. It doesn't matter. Things just need to be done by someone willing to do them.

I still can't draw characters. You would expect an artist to be able to do that, but no. I never get good at them, no matter what. Instead I'm drawing backgrounds, scenery, concept art. For video games and book covers and trading cards. I'm still getting new projects even when I'm not the best. For survival it's enough. For keeping me alive, it works.

I felt like I had to fight such a crazy battle just to get where I am, against my parents, teachers, peers, and entire damn world which kept throwing in my face everyone who was better than me. I still don't understand, for a lot of people, what did they gain by convincing me I was throwing my time away drawing? I'm wondering if they were jealous because I was creating something when they did nothing but destroy. I felt awful for all that time I wasted not realizing what I could do, just because I was really terrified of not being able to do anything. But I don't mind anymore. I could have realized it even later in life too. I would have found a path to it, somehow. And maybe one day I get sick of it and decide to take on another trade. I now understand that it's possible to get interested and engaged with something at any point in life, and make a living out of it. It doesn't have to be decided when you're a child, and it doesn't have to be for life, and you don't have to be exceptional at it.

I hope someone reads this and feels less scared, and less stressed about what they're longing to do, but don't feel they can. If you have similar stories, feel free to add to this post.

Could This Be Real?

(I don't know if this was already pointed out by someone)

Answer: Very Likely.

Why? Well we all know the was drawn by one of Voltron's storyboard artist, but was later took down from Twitter. It also caused half of Tumblr to break. But anyways, while a lot of people say it's just another klance shipper from the show I want to point out why I think this image may actually be part of an future episode.

As you can see the circled part, (Which is not even a circle tbh)the image seems to be cut off.

What this means? There's a strong possibility that there is an indication of another sketch.

Now I know what you're thinking,

"You're crazy."

" It's probably just a cut off her signiture."

"Just another Klance Shipper drawing art."

Before you attack, I want to point out that that is definitely not a signiture. I'm insane. And yes, it could just be an artist wanting to contribute.

But here's the thing. That circled bit, as from I can tell, is someone's head. Whether is be another klance drawing or someone else. There's definitely someone else drawn there. Which means there is more going on in the backround. And if there's more in the background, there's definitely going to be a story to it. Why write a story if you're not going to show it to the public?

News Flash: That's her job. She does this for a living guys. It's not like she's going to leak the whole damn show.

Another thing I want to point out is how darker the supposed sketch seems to be. Usually when sketching(as an artist, I would know) we usually always outline our sketches when we have completed our drawing. (Even if you plan on coloring it later on)

The point is, that small part can also be an indication of a finished art piece.

Why would a storyboard artist take all her time to draw something when she isn't planning on showing it? Yet she showed just a minor sketch of our space boys kissing? Well before you say that

"She isn't allowed to show anything that might indicate ships"

Why did she show the Klance art to begin with? Because I definitely know that if Lauren has people locked in her basement, I don't want to be thrown in there. Though I wouldn't mind saying hi to TheBriggShow or Jeremy Shada.

If you look back at the picture, there are two lines. Usually lines like that indicate a room of some sort. Whether it be a Galra base, or the castle of lions. But there is definitely an outline of a room planted there. Which furthermore predicts that this could very may be part of a storyline of some sort. Again, why would someone go through so much trouble!!

Before I finish this I want to say something else. I believe the storyboard artist left that small piece out on purpose.

Why you ask? Well I mean, I don't know about you, but when it comes to cropping things, I tend to want to be extremely precise on it. The artist clearly has enough room to crop off the rest. Suspicious is it not?

Again, for all we know. This is just a the storyboard artist showing love for Klance.

But anyways I'm done ranting. If you wanna be an ass and say that I'm wrong and tell me I'm stupid go ahead I really don't care. I'm just simply putting my mind out there. No need to argue either, this Fandom is dangerous as it is threatening voice actors and what not. If you want.

You're an amazing artist and I have so many questions! How long have you been drawing, do you have any tips for coloring images, have you been to art school or are you self taught, what program(s) do you use, do you have any tips for artists struggling to imrpove their skills and draw consistently? OMG I’m sorry for replying so late I haven’t checked tumblr in a while TTATT Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your support

 I have been drawing since forever, I was the artsy kid way back in kindergarten ;’)  My parents used to work a lot (they still do ahahah) so my early years where basically me and the tv alone. I used to be really fascinated by the drawings of every cartoon which aired on the italian tv, and they were mostly lots and lots of anime; so the bigger the eyes the better, and I sat down for hours  copying stuff from the tv (Mew Mew and Doremi thank you).  

 About my training as an artist, I went to art high school and now I’m attending an Academy of Fine Arts in comics and illustration, so I’m not self taught x**  got to specify though, I have been trained only to a certain extent, art high schools in my country are kinda silly.  Not saying that wasn’t useful but it has not much to do with anything I like\am doing, guess everything just comes with its pros and cons.  

The Academy I’m attending now is super cool. I have to say that what is helping me grow at the moment are not the teachers or the assignments but  the fact that I find myself  discovering some sides of Art I didn’t think would be useful to my work. Once I  thought that improving was just all about practice, like the more you draw the better you become, now I realize it’s not just that? We all agree with the fact that you have to draw often to keep your hand trained, however i think that just running randomly the pencil on a paper all the time is just… pointless. What makes a good difference imo is observation, to recognize what exactly is the flaw , and most importantly what to do in order to fix it. And I don’t talk about evident errors like anatomic stuff, which can be easily fixed with the right ref. From your question anon I deduce you are an artist too, and I think you understand if I talk about those moments when you look at your stuff and say ‘ugh it sucks, all of it’ and then proceed to a self-artblock  x** so the key is not to blind foldedly keep on practicing hoping that somehow improvement will be Bestowed Upon You like a Blessing from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ lmaoo, but to seek like crazy for what is The Thing you dislike (idk the proportions, the media, the type of line, the topic of your work)  and go looking for a solution in already existing stuff, not necessarily other drawings, maybe photography, cinematography, music, fashion or literature, will do fine for you. Basically yoU GOTTA EEARRN ITT but not only by drawing, but through research and studying.  For me, having a broad range of knowledge in as much aspects of art as I can is vital, like having a massive suitcase of things you might want to integrate in your work in case of necessity. Also i KNEWWW I was gonna end up writing and essay I’m so sorry I get carried away on specific questions x***

  Ah about the details, I use exclusively Photoshop cs6, my teachers don’t know shit about digital media so I can proudly say I m all research and youtube tutorials about that.

 For colouring images, IIII don’t think I’m in the position to give advice to others lmaoooo but if i have to, I’d say to keep it easy…. like when I first started photoshop I was very enthusiastic about colouring so I would put in as many colours and deepness with light\shade as I could, and that was very ridicolous lmaoo so, few colours and in the right places. Don’t take my words as law, mainstream editorial illustration now is very much flat\clean\graphic shapes, and probably I m just feeling the influence. 

I could write an other entire essay about colouring and such but honestly I m just an ignorant ugly baby and my method is not different from anything you find on youtube… I work with max 2 layers, one for the backround and the other for the rest, I chose colours and composition by gut feeling and  by checking often that the picture looks cute also as a thumbnail and in gray scale.

Interview no.7 Justina

Justina belongs to the Lindyhop dance community in Vilnius, Lithuania. Veronika interviewed her in a park during her Easter break.

PERSONAL BACKROUND

Justina joined the Lindyhop community in 2014. She had been missing some kind of activity in my life, because in school she went to violin and art classes, as well as theatre group, dances and since  she started university she was only a part of the Student Union for 4 years and got really fed up with it, so it was time for something new.

She knew the last year at uni she would be writing her bachelor thesis, so she decided to start something where she could plug her mind off. She is very used to keeping herself busy: her mindset is such that, the more busy she is, the more she gets done.

THE COST

Financially it depends on how many dance classes she is taking. She takes classes at both of the Lindyhop clubs in Vilnius.

Quite often at Balboa dance classes she is the one that the teacher is demonstrating the combinations on, so, even if she could skip Balboa classes, she doesn’t do so, because she feels the responsibility to participate and she genuinely likes it as well as it is a future investment.

Emotionally, it quite often feels like she began dancing Lindyhop quite late in comparison to others who, let’s say are 14-16 yrs old. Observing how quickly they progress she naturally starts to compare herself to them and gets envious, because watching others in the community makes you very aware of yourself and your skills. She has a full-time job, it is obvious that she doesn’t have as much time and energy. She found that you need to learn what you can sacrifice and how much, watch it and be aware of it.

Apart form the classes that she takes, she goes to social dance evenings, where you can just go for free and dance, gain new skills from others and teach others as well. The social dances are on Sunday evenings and it is not the most comfortable time for her, but she tries to go when she feels like it. She quite often goes to watch the halls during events and show that she cares about the community, it feels good to be known by many Lindyhop members, to support them, be trusted by them.

THE BENEFIT

Once for a workshop she was asked to register people and sell tickets. She was told she can go to the workshop for free, but she had already paid for it and refused to take the money back. The task took 15 minutes to do, it wasn’t that big of a deal to her. Sometimes she volunteers at festivals to get free admission.

She finds herself to be quite introverted and being part of the community pushes her to communicate with people. When she goes to an environment where she at least is forced to talk to someone during dance classes in pairs, she gets to know people and eventually makes friends.

Other benefit is movement, because she works at an office where she spends at least 7 hrs a day, moving is essential to her. She gets to know her body better, moves to rhythm and contemplates about how dances can influence societies. 

Lindyhop is from 30s-40s and it stems from African-American culture, after the revival of this dance it became more white people culture, but currently they are trying to reclaim it. In that sense, it is interesting to observe such shifts in culture through dance.

In addition to that, by taking part in the community she wants to raise awareness about the problem of stereotypes due to body image. She sees herself as a person of non-standard body shape and by taking part in the community she intends to show other girls that everyone can dance if they want to, shape and size doesn’t matter, the fact that she makes her best gives her a lot of self-confidence.

DRIVERS (aka eldsjäl) IN THE COMMUNITY

The drivers make a big difference. There is almost no hierarchy in the community, the teachers and students are like friends. She thinks that it is important for the drivers to not be overly pushy, because some drivers that you really respect begin to annoy you. When she stayed in one teacher’s class for years and even though she liked her and they got along, it felt like time to change something.

Overall, she feels like the community is super important for people that have temporary jobs, they really need to tie some bonds, but she doesn’t feel like she is crazy attached, she knows her boundaries. 

“When I first started, I was one of those that would attend every event possible, but later I found I needed to take back some balance in my life.”
