I have a LOT of feelings about my favorite tertiary character Rosamund Lannister. Why was she introduced? What does the future hold for her now that Myrcella has been attacked? ASoIaf isn't kind to decoys and I do Not care for any Jeyne Poole parallels.

A few notes:

• I'm not really sure about dressing ~Rosemund~ in Westerlands (Tudor) clothings while in Dorne, but I guess characterizing radically different styles for Rosemund and Myrcella while there would help them swap places if needed. Would it work? Idk man, we're not exactly working with Padmé Amidala resources here. The veil is there because well. Sun. But it might also help now *wink wink*.

• ~Myrcella~ is definetely meant to be wearing Too Much Kohl that she's insisted on applying herself. She's a preteen, man. Who's gonna stop her? Arys? Her overdress is meant to be black and gold, too. Let's think about that for a sec.

book 001 : too much to ask

As leituras em inglês e a preocupação (tardia) das editoras

No início da semana foi publicada no jornal Publico uma reportagem da autoria da jornalista Sofia Neves intitulada "Há jovens que só lêem livros em inglês - e isso preocupa as editoras". O título fez-me sorrir, admito, pois pergunto-me se o Público só em 2024 se apercebeu desta realidade, ou se só neste ano é que esta realidade chegou à literatura mainstream.

Digo isto com a noção de que os leitores de ficção científica e fantasia há décadas lêem em inglês - primeiro por necessidade, depois por conveniência, e por fim pelo hábito. A necessidade veio com o fim das colecções, e com elas a escassez de livros traduzidos (como a Argonauta, a colecção da Europa-América, ou até a "colecção azul" da Caminho), e com a ausência quase total de autores nacionais que pudessem alimentar o nicho de mercado. A conveniência veio mais tarde, quando o comércio online permitiu aos leitores adquirirem com facilidade livros em inglês a preços que o mercado editorial português não tem qualquer hipótese de acompanhar. E por fim veio o hábito: ganha-se a prática e o gosto de ler em Inglês, consegue-se ler uma série sem esperar anos por um dos volumes, não se lida com traduções duvidosas. Aqui chegados, como voltar aos calhamaços que se publicam por cá e se vendem a preço de ouro? Bem sei: há inúmeras condicionantes de mercado. O que, convenhamos, pouco importa para os consumidores: os recursos são limitados, e se pelo preço de um livro em edição português se compram dois em edição inglesa, a escolha é óbvia.

O meu percurso pessoal enquanto leitor do género fez este percurso quase na perfeição: passei ao lado das colecções, e as minhas primeiras leituras no género durante a adolescência foram tie-ins de Magic: the Gathering e Warcraft que, como é evidente, nunca foram traduzidos para Português. Durante o 12º ano, sabendo pelo meu gosto por ficção científica (partilhámos longas conversas sobre The Matrix), o meu professor de Filosofia e Psicologia emprestou-me um livro que mudaria a minha vida: The Snow Queen, de Joan D. Vinge. Não sei se o marcou tanto a ele como me marcou a mim, nem sei o que o levou a sugerir aquele livro que nada tem que ver com cyberpunk, mas foi uma escolha inspiradíssima. Li-o na edição portuguesa, em dois volumes, da Europa-América, numa tradução que não me convenceu nem me abriu o apetite para ler outros livros da colecção; mas o bichinho da leitura ficou. Pouco tempo depois vim para Lisboa estudar, e descobri que na hoje extinta Livraria Tema, no segundo piso do Colombo (ao lado do cinema), era possível encomendar livros a partir dos Estados Unidos. Encomendei The Snow Queen numa edição original, que ainda tenho e estimo. E seguiu-se a maioria da bibliografia de Joan D. Vinge: World's End, The Summer Queen, Tangled Up in Blue, mais a trilogia Cat (Psion, Catspaw, e Dreamfall). O primeiro livro de Philip K. Dick que li, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, também foi comprado na Tema, tal como os primeiros livros que li de Isaac Asimov, Arhur C. Clarke e Robert A. Heinlein. O último livro que lá comprei, lembro-me bem, foi uma edição trade paperback de A Game of Thrones, de George R.R. Martin, dois ou três meses antes de a adaptação televisiva da HBO estrear e catapultar aquele universo de fantasia para o mainstream. Com muita pena minha, a Tema encerraria pouco tempo depois.

(Sim, nessa altura já a Saída de Emergência publicava A Song of Ice and Fire há largos anos. Mas eu já não tinha qualquer incentivo para ler os livros em português.)

Cheguei ainda a encomendar livros via Fnac - uma companheira de World of Warcraft sugeriu-me a leitura de Northern Lights de Philip Pullman, e encomendei os três livros na loja. Demoraram meses a chegar, foi um horror.

Depois da Tema veio a Amazon UK (durante um par de anos - pré-Brexit, claro - teve entregas grátis a partir de 28£; mandei vir tanto livro de lá), o Book Depository (saudades), a Amazon ES, a Blackwells. A Fnac já tem muito mais variedade de livros em inglês a preços razoáveis, até nem é incomum encontrar títulos da SF Masterworks por lá, e as secções de banda desenhada têm crescido a olhos vistos (mas a banda desenhada é um mundo à parte, claro).

Hoje olho para trás - em sentido literal, escrevo este texto na minha secretária pessoal, a biblioteca doméstica está mesmo atrás de mim - e vejo estantes com largas centenas de livros, nas sua esmagadora maioria em inglês. É possível que na fantasia muitos dos livros que temos cá em casa tenham sido traduzidos (a grande lacuna será decerto Discworld), mas a maioria dos livros de ficção científica que aqui estão ou não foram traduzidos, ou na melhor das hipóteses terão tido tradições duvidosas nas colecções de outros tempos. Alguns vão sendo agora editados por cá, mas já não me compensam: ou gasto menos dinheiro em trade paperbacks, ou pago sensivelmente o mesmo por excelentes edições em capa dura. Após mais de vinte anos de leituras sucessivas, leio com a mesma facilidade em Português em Inglês. No meu idioma só leio autores de língua portuguesa, ou a tradição ocasional de outros idiomas; não tenho qualquer razão, e muito menos vontade, de ler livros de autores anglófonos em tradução.

E estou longe de ser o único - praticamente toda a gente de idade próxima da minha que gosta de fantasia e ficção científica lê sobretudos livros em inglês. Pelo que regresso à reportagem do Público: essa realidade já existia, e editoras mais de nicho como a Saída de Emergência (mencionada no texto) já a conheciam bem. Não sei ao certo o que terá mudado para que o fenómeno ganhe visibilidade - uma maior visibilidade das vendas, talvez, ou o fenómeno do booktok, uma espécie de blogosfera literária com esteróides -, mas é fascinante vê-lo a ser falado agora como se fosse algo de novo, como se as editoras estivessem agora prestes a perder um sem-número de leitores. Quando na verdade essas editoras já perderam muitos desses leitores há anos, se não mesmo há décadas.

Thoughts on azor ahai???

I just said in this last post. :)) There's something fishy about him. It's already stated that other cultures give him other names, like Hyrkoon the Hero, Yin Tar, Neferion or Eldric Shadowchaser. BUT? What if he was also the Bloodstone Emperor??

Melisandre uses Azor Ahai and "the prince that was promised" interchangeably, but I'm not sure how she got to that conclusion. She could be right, but she is notorious for being bad at prophecy interpretation, so who even knows at this point.

We already have the magical sword - it's Dawn - so what exactly would make someone Azor Ahai? The killing of a woman? For what purpose? Or the second Azor Ahai is just going to be vibing against the Others and that's it?

I presume you're talking about the Prince That Was Promised. It's important to note we don't really know the full texts of those. There's also "the dragon has three heads" prophecy that Rhaegar was talking about. As for their interpretations, anyone in-universe who has tried so far has failed.

I've seen that the HOTD prophecy addition was not super popular, but I believe it was most likely GRRM's idea and he probably intended to reveal it in the books at a later date if it weren't already included here: “From my blood come the prince that was promised, and his will be the song of ice and fire.”

We don't really know what endgame GRRM decides to stick to, so I can't really evaluate it decontextualized like this. Generally-speaking, prophecies are kind of narrative traps that lead to a sort of self-fulfilling arc, delving into the cliche. It's unclear whether there is a way to actually stop the prophecies from happening or whether characters have no real agency and, whatever they do, it will always come true, self-fulfilling or not. I find the second option annoying; I'd much prefer characters' actions to matter in the wider narrative.

" Eu moro na Rússia, na Sibéria. Quando eu levo meu filho para escola, para o jardim de infância, nas manhãs sempre frias, ele cantarola esta música( Dance of The Knights de Prokofiev)."

Romeu e Julieta (no original em inglês: Romeo and Juliet) é uma tragédia escrita entre 1591 e 1595, nos primórdios da carreira literária de William Shakespeare, sobre dois adolescentes cuja morte acaba unindo suas famílias, outrora em pé de guerra.

Pode o amor vencer o ódio?

Ele pode vencer o preconceito?

A inveja?

A vingança?

O rancor?

A dor?

Se não é o amor, o que vencerá, quem vencerá, quem unirá, quem pacificará?

No silêncio do dia, olho pela janela de meu quarto, da varanda, avisto o verde, as flores, sinto o cheiro da terra, ouço o canto dos pássaros, que diferença deve ser ou estar morando na Sibéria!

Como um compositor russo captou com tamanha precisão os sentimentos e comportamentos tão humanos como a prepotência, a arrogância, o orgulho, a inveja,o amor neste frio que congela até o fogo, captar o calor do amor entre dois jovens, de duas famílias que se odiavam, Capuletos e Montéquios!?

O enredo de história de amor é tocante, fascinante, tanto que falamos do arquétipo de Romeu e Julieta como uma referência de amor na sua essência, no seu suprassumo, tudo o mais é uma banalização do amor, amor piegas, demagógico, falso, corrupto, que visa pilhar o povo,enganar as famílias, a propriedade, a tradição dos bons costumes, da moral e da ética do bem.

Uma criança é levada a escola, ela tem quatro anos,ela tem como referência os pais, os hábitos e costumes dos pais, a harmonia, a paz, ou experimenta seu oposto,estaria esta criança fadada ao destino do amor ou do rancor? E este destino seria elemento inquestionável de toda sua vida ou morte?

Parece-me, agora retornando meus olhos a mesa do meu escritório nesta manhã, um determinismo emocional,comportamental, achar que somos somente nossos hábitos, prefiro adotar o caminho de Raul Seixas e considerar o ser humano " uma metamorfose ambulante" e de que tudo, tudo mesmo pode ser transformado, reciclado, reutilizável para o bem ou para o mal, dependerá sempre da escolha e decisão pela paz ou pela guerra!

Mas nós temos autonomia limitante, mas nunca soberania, ou seja, entregamos de quatro, ou erguidos, de quatro em quatro anos nossos destinos ou o destino de toda uma nação!

Que responsabilidade, não!?

Paz não quer dizer passividade, pacifismo, não ocupar o papel de protagonismo, na verdade a paz é uma guerra pela transformação do radicalismo em sensatez, por exemplo de uma Esquerda Xiita para uma Esquerda que admite ser incompetente em administrar um país de forma a colocá-lo ou torná-lo em excelência, em todos os aspectos, ótimo para seus cidadãos, independente das suas posições políticas autônomas, e que de nada tem,está política no Brasil de ciência, mas sim, de charlatanismo, corrupção, fisiologismo, clientelismo,nepotismo e piorada agora, sendo a dita democracia, ferida e gerida por togas negras,dando somente o aspecto de seriedade, mas trágica como a história de Romeu e Julieta.

A música( Kings of The Knights) é fascinante, dá o tom arrogante de uma aristocracia que foi assassinada, em ato genocida, homicídio culposo e doloso do Estado Comunista.

Senhora Capuleto é a esposa de Capuleto.

Julieta é a filha única dos Capuletos e a protagonista feminina da peça.

Teobaldo é primo de Julieta, e filho do irmão da Senhora Capuleto.

Ama é a confidente e ama de Julieta.

Pedro e Gregório são os criados dos Capuletos.

Governo.

Príncipe Escala é o Príncipe de Verona

Páris é um jovem nobre, parente do príncipe, e pretendente de Julieta.

Mercúcio é parente do príncipe e amigo de Romeu.

Casa dos Montéquio.

Montéquio é o patriarca da casa dos Montecchios.

Senhora Montéquio é a matriarca da casa dos Montecchios.

Romeu é o filho único dos Montecchios, e o protagonista masculino da peça.

Benvólio é sobrinho de Montecchio e primo de Romeu.

Abraão e Baltasar são os criados dos Montecchios.

Entre estas duas famílias somente o ódio, a guerra, a população, os cidadãos? Meros figurinistas, manipulados pela aristocracia e seu valores.

Haverá, o amor, de vencer o ódio entre estas duas famílias?

O sangue é vermelho,existem pelo menos 105 tons de vermelho, milhões morreram na ditadura vermelha de Stalin.

O vermelho vencerá o azul?

O guerra vencerá a paz?

Capuletos e Montéquios só se unirão pela morte, pela tragédia, pelo drama, as pessoas só valorizam as outras depois de uma separação de corpos, pois somente o espírito do amor vale, vale a pena!?

E a morte? É o ponto de inflexão ou reflexão que somos vulneráveis, frágeis e o corpo malhado a ferro e fogo sem alma é mera ilusão!?

Quando Prokofiev compôs a Dança dos Cavalheiros ou Dance of The Knights.

Ele tinha em mente que a arte servia ao Estado, e ainda serve! Basta ver o hit "Macetando" de Ivete Sangalo, " Macetando" a Direita Azul!

Para o primeiro grande balé de sua fase soviética, o compositor escolheu Romeu e Julieta, a peça mais popular de Shakespeare, autor muito cultuado na Rússia.

A partitura de Prokofiev mantém-se fiel à peça em versos, de um lirismo inigualável, ecoando seus vários aspectos – da complexidade psicológica dos personagens ao realismo das cenas teatrais.

A música acompanha notavelmente a transformação de Julieta, de alegre e despreocupada adolescente para uma mulher apaixonada; também descreve com brilho o requinte da cena do baile ou a violência das lutas entre os Montéquios e os Capuletos.

Por suas grandes dimensões, Romeu e Julieta foi denominada ópera-balé pelo próprio compositor.

O uso de leitmotiv*, com reprises e transformações, caracteriza os principais personagens.

Para cada um dos quatro atos, Prokofiev procurou um colorido especial, a partir de um núcleo central.

Assim, o Primeiro Ato (apesar de começar ao ar livre, com a apresentação das famílias rivais e a chegada do Duque a cavalo) é dominado pela cena do baile no palácio dos Capuletos.

Romeu fantasiado encontra Julieta pela primeira vez, e os dois se apaixonam. A tradição secular e a suntuosidade das danças palacianas – o Minueto de entrada, a Dança dos Cavaleiros com seu ritmo pontuado e a Gavota de despedida – parecem opressivas à juventude dos namorados. Esses só estão a sós nos três números finais: a célebre e lírica Cena do balcão, a Variação do tema de Romeu e a Dança do amor.

Prokofiev nasceu em 23 de abril de 1891 na vila rural de Sontsovka (atualmente é a localidade de Krasne, no Óblast de Donetsk), na Ucrânia, parte do Império Russo. Foi filho único, sua mãe era pianista e o pai era engenheiro agrónomo, e a família vivia com relativo desafogo económico.

Prokofiev demonstrou bem cedo invulgares dotes musicais. Aos nove anos, ele compôs sua primeira ópera, O Gigante, assim como uma abertura e outras peças. Em 1902, sua mãe conseguiu uma audiência com Sergei Taneyev, diretor do Conservatório de Moscou. Taneyev sugeriu que Prokofiev começasse a ouvir aulas de composição com Alexander Goldenweiser, que declinou, e Reinhold Glière.Glière visitou o jovem Prokofiev em Sontsovka duas vezes durante o verão para ensiná-lo. Paralelamente, Prokofiev aprendeu xadrez, uma paixão que se manteve por sua vida.

Quando aprendeu a base teórica musical necessária, dedicou-se a experimentar, definindo o que seria o seu estilo musical.

Ele viveu próximo à Praça Vermelha, e por três dias, a multidão que se despedia de Stalin impossibilitou a retirada do corpo de Prokofiev para o serviço funerário. No funeral, não havia flores nem músicos, todos reservados ao funeral do líder soviético.

Igor Stravinsky o caracterizou como o maior compositor russo de sua época, além do próprio Stravinsky.

Ele morreu a 5 de Março de 1953, coincidentemente no mesmo dia da morte do camarada Stalin.

hmm maybe not the last one but it's the first that comes to mind.. this was last winter. me and my friends got a ride to a party two towns over with no way of coming back home because we were sure someone we knew would be there. there were several people from our own village so we were like "oh cool" and having fun. they decided to leave at 3 am and asked it we wanted to go with them..... and we said no and stayed at the party because we were drunk and thought it was too early

one of my friends got a ride with them and went to get his car from our town otherwise we would have been stranded there until 8 am 😂 (which... we left at like 7am from the party but it was about -10ºC outside and everything was frozen over and we were trying to stay warm in the fire that was burning from the party but as you can imagine it was not enough)

i like spicy food, don't think i can handle super super spicy but i always put tabasco sauce, pepper and etc when cooking i think it's flavourless without it, maybe one day i'll handle more ;) my family puts pepper on guest's forks to see if they're worth it
