Hey jalebi, what would arnav do if khushi haven't given into his threats and not married him and believed in her gut that akash wouldn't leave payal? What ways would arnav come up with to tie her to himself? This changes the entire plot line but I wanna know your thoughts on this 😅
Hi Anon,
You’re right, this would change the whole plot and Arnav was very convincing. The writing is so water tight that there’s no way that Khushi wouldn’t have agreed to him. There’s no believing her gut because Akash will leave Payal, even if heartbroken by it, if Arnav says so because Akash always believes his brother 💯.
BUT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME A FANFIC IDEA SO HERE IT IS!
What if Khushi refused the ultimatum?
From a tragic point of view, Khushi is more likely to believe that Arnav wouldn’t do this to her, she knows what love they share, she wouldn’t be able to believe he’d cross all these lines. She would perhaps think more from her heart. She loves this man. Intensely.
But Arnav would pull it off. Because the hurt he has is immense. Because this is his only leverage to Khushi. And despite his good judgement he’d cancel the wedding.
And despite much chaos and uproar and Akash choosing to side with his brother (I think Arnav would privately tell him the truth which Akash, despite his own judgement, would agree with Arnav because his brother is never wrong), the wedding would be off leading to Nani’s ill health and Buaji and Garima collapsing.
I believe Payal would unfortunately try to kill herself, unable to take the trauma and that would shock Arnav and the rest of the Raizadas to now demand answers.
Khushi would go ballistic on Arnav and essentially become another Arnav Singh Raizada with having her sister in coma and family destroyed over his decision.
And imagine, just imagine the shock to know it was all over a misunderstanding! She would vow to never forgive him and burn all his gifts and everything that reminds her of him. Anjali would be completely destroyed but seeing Payal would remind her of herself and she’d chose to separate with Shyam (especially with all the suspicions she was having over time).
Arnav would rot in guilt. He gave her the same trauma he had. NK would agree that nope, his cousin wasn’t in love with Khushi, because love cannot be this.
Akash would just become a stone.
The Guptas would all head to Lucknow with a comatose Payal. Akash would come over to face severe rejection but he would be there to marry Payal, to be with her. The doctors say she might not wake up ever but Akash would happily spend his life looking at Payal sleeping.
That’s what the vows were about anyway?
Khushi seriously takes up the business and gives her all. Payal gets conscious and Akash patiently helps her heal. Khushi’s business starts booming and one day the Raizadas come over to ask for Payal’s hand. They promise to treat her like a queen.
Khushi is enraged and would outrightly refuse it! Arnav comes in front, asking for his brother and her sister’s happiness but Khushi wouldnt agree. Rather yell at him for his hypocrisy.
Arnav starts negotiating with Khushi for the marriage to happen. Anything. Khushi refuses all of them. Arnav asks her about Payal’s medical treatment, Khushi retorts that he would only help once she’s a bahu?
Arnav rages at that accusation and Khushi scoffs at his attempt at empathy. Arnav calms down and tells her her anger is valid, and so is her hatred. But it’s ultimately about Payal’s life.
Khushi storms away and realizes her family has been taking the healthcare expenses from the Raizadas. She feels insulted and angry and refuses to speak to any of her family despite knowing it has actually benefited Payal.
Payal, on the other hand, is getting slow with her recovery and gets upset on akash for sticking up with her when she doesn’t want to stay in this state but he lets her be, letting all her anger out until she cries and holds onto him, the guilt of burdening Khushi with everything on her head.
Khushi soothes Payal when Payal wishes she should’ve died instead of becoming a burden Khushi but Khushi shuts her up by stating that if she died then there’s nothing Khushi has to live for.
Khushi reluctantly agrees for the wedding but gets upset when her family hopes for hers - she lashes out at them to the point where she crosses all the lines and then feels guilty for having done so. Arnav finds her at the edge of the road and fears the worst, pulls her away from a speeding car and yells at her out of concern. However it’s clear that she wasn’t paying attention and not attempting self harm.
Khushi, hesitantly, shares what transpired at her home and Arnav hesitantly consoles her by stating that there’s no fun in being an Arnav Singh Raizada.
Her anger, her hatred, everything should be directed to him. They have a fighting match where essentially Arnav’s pain of Khushi hiding the truth and Khushi’s pain of Arnav not even asking her clarification hits. Ultimately Khushi yells that she cannot hate him, she cannot be angry at him because- and she cuts off, and runs away back home where Akash has consoled the family and patches up Khushi with her family.
The wedding begins and Anjali is uncharacteristically quiet, apologetic and slightly frightened. She promises her brother and Khushi only happiness in the world. Meanwhile Khushi makes it clear that she’s doing this for Payal’s happiness and she may never find it in her to forgive him and Arnav agrees that there’s something similar in them - he may never find it in him to forgive himself either.
With the wedding sparks fly between Arshi with them exchanging banters and wits. They come closer and Khushi finds herself falling again when it is revealed Shyam has been blackmailing Anjali for money in exchange for peace in her family.
Arnav and Khushi team up to get rid of Shyam and both regret the fact that neither of them punished the one man who was responsible for everything.
Much to the families’ happiness Akash finally weds Payal much to everyone’s happiness.
The family concoct ways to bring arshi clpser. It’s hilarious because all the plans backfire. Finally accidentally Khushi thinks Arnav’s life is endangered and she runs over to him about thinking of life’s cruelty at her to keep seeing the ones she love in danger.
Khushi tells Arnav she loves him and accuses him of being careless and not loving her back and Arnav gets angry because he loves her and she doesn’t love him back and they yell back and forth until they realize they confessed and well - that leads to another wedding and a happily ever after!
Best,
- Jalebi

▪︎ IPKKND Ep 30 recap : Love
"Sister, I'm not stuck with old memories. If that would've been true, then probably you would've seen me crying over my fate. But now, I'm making my own fate."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Arnav's obsession with fate and control are the after-effects of his trauma. He's very sacred of having to deal with another tragic event, to have to deal again with that heartbreaking and painful feeling of losing someone so close to him. He's so scared of breaking again. He not only lifted himself up but also his sister and his family with much more hardship that he lets us know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We rarely see him complain, he's a really lonely person. When sometimes, he brags about being Arnav Singh Raizada, he never really tells people he had to go through a lot of hardships, and he never let the world sees him as someone who can be vulnerable, someone who can actually break.
Because when he showed vulnerability in the past, to someone else that his sister, those people betrayed him. His own uncle betrayed him but this wasn't the most heartbreaking betrayal he had to go through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His own parents betrayed him in the worst way. They chose to d*e instead of choosing to stay alive for their children. They betrayed him by choosing to d*e and they abandonned him by actually dy*ng ! (I'll explain this theory of mine later in details.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be betrayed and abandonned are the deepest fear of Arnav, to be betrayed and abandonned by someone he trust and love, but also to be betrayed by himself because of love. And not any type of love, there is a specificity, that I'll elaborate later at the right moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's why he always tries to control everything and creates for himself opportunities rather than letting incertainty enters back his life.
That's why only Khushi makes him feel really alive. She's someone he never intended to meet. She is a risk, she is an incertainty he can not control !!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You're getting lost somewhere. What's in your heart … why isn't in your face? What Anjali says will echo Khushi's observation of Arnav "why does people aren't what we see them to be"
Tumblr media
"Why are you bothering her so much?" Arnav can't answer this question. He doesn't know why. From the first time he met her, he treated her fiercely as his equal. You might mistakenly think he views her as an enemy, and that's partly true. Asr think of khushi as an ennemy, a danger to Arnav's well being.
She was able to make him feel too much and to trigger him too easily. Asr needed to make her pay for that. She was able to make Arnav forget everything else, Arnav wanted to keep playing with her, together, without thinking about protecting himself. That's why Asr had to intervene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
" -What have she done? -I don't know what she has done …" "I don't how she could enter my heart, I barely know her. How? What is she doing to me? What have you done Khushi?"
Tumblr media
"Why don't you want to believe that you're getting worried for her?" Anjali has no idea that he's more than just worried about her being sick/hurt. He knows he's worried about her. That's not what irritates him, it's about how worried he's getting, the intensity of it !
He is way too concerned about her, he cares way too much. He knows she is becoming very special to him. That's why he gets angry and tries to avoid her and fight every thought of her. He refuses to admit he's falling in love with her. Love isn't part of his life plan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"He's a devil !"
I think khushi is not just angry of what happened, she's also disappointed with Arnav. She knows how he can be mean, but she wasn't expecting him to be this cruel. She still thinks he tried to scared her purposely (not to actually hurt her) for her to quit her job and therefore to win their challenge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Khushi was hoping he would have tried to fix what he did, to apologize to her family at least.
Her rushed, almost compulsive way to prepare jalebi is also very telling of how Khushi tries to cope with her emotions. It must be a way for her to fight against the intense feeling someone or something caused.
I think the origin of that behavior is directly linked to her suic*dal thoughts. Just like Arnav, Khushi lost her parents. Khushi deepest fear is to be seen as "unworthy" to the people she loves.
Tumblr media
And here, it's probably caused by the intense pain and disappointment in Arnav's behavior. She thinks the man "who made her feel like a woman", not only hates her so much but also might be actually a cruel man !
Khushi denies her feelings for him but indeed she started to catch feelings. And the man she likes seems to despise her so much to the point of risking her life. Her denial can't control the way her heart feels, she is so hurt.

honestly i love that walters is a bit awkward and underwhelming in the red hood suit because this is still jason. he was robin--unsure, fearful and desperate--just a day ago, and now he’s taken on this new persona as his armour against the world. he’s had no transformative arc or training montages in between so that he fills out the red hood costume more or looks more intimidating/confident: the point is jason todd is enough as jason todd, and being the best possible robin or red hood doesn’t have to define his worth.
with adaptations of such iconic source material there’s always the pressure to conform to audience ideals. i’m glad that the show is committed to the characters that it took the time to build, and is not compromising on that character work in order to (fully) pander to fans.

the three trivias for the ask game!!! 💓
tiffany!!! hi sweetpea, thanks for these questions 💜
Trivia 起: Just Dance: make a playlist of songs you would dance to in a club ahhhh! first let me just say, i wanna take namjoon to the club this is kinda hard, i want a mix of so many things like some iconic US hits of the 2000s (work it - missy elliot; low - flo rida; temperature - sean paul; gasolina - daddy yankee; bye bye bye - *nsync) and then also some dance tracks by desi artists like Jay Sean, Imran Khan, Mickey Singh, Raghav, Culture Shock, etc) but Tesher’s Jalebi Baby will def be in the playlist, oh and of course some BTS bops for sure (DNA; 21st Century Girl; Idol; Filter; Fire; Airplane pt2)  Trivia 承: Love: do you believe in love at first sight? I don’t think I do? I think you can be very enamored by someone at first sight, maybe even feel drawn to them strongly, but I don’t know to what extent you could generate love for someone without knowing their more of their story?  The Truth Untold: what is your favorite trope in a story? omg akjngakjnakn this is so hard! on one hand i’m a sap so I like stories where the protagonist has not necessarily a tragic background but is dealing with their own traumas/mental health (ugh how typically therapisty of me) and then they overcome some challenges and generate self-compassion and shine at the end without having to rely on someone else to save them? but then i also like romance stories where the lovers don’t understand each other’s feelings and are foolish throughout but still supporting one another 🥺 and then have a huge AHA moment at the end 😭 WELL THIS WAS A LOT OF READING NO ONE ASKED FOR. SORRY! questions from 🎼bts song ask game! 🎼

Discussing IPKKND Tracks
Dear @jalebi-weds-bluetooth,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my ask so thoroughly.
Your reaction to receiving my ask(s) was so cute. It made me feel all warm inside. Tumblr seemed to be drunk, my theme kept weird-ing out until I changed it then I can’t see the changes on any device except my laptop. Also, I kept getting an error when replying to your cat post until I gave up. Spoiler Alert: I just wanted to let you know your babies are super adorable and should bless your blog more often.
Glad to know you love rambling, something we have in common.
I have watched IPKKND with English subtitles and so my understanding might not have picked the nuances in cultural/linguistic expression.
1. Arnav and Lavanya
Yes, the way IPKKND began and the theme the show introduced as well as the way it was narrated was gripping and sort of ‘western’. I am not a fan of the Daily Soaps with exception to IPKKND, so I never understood the differences between individual channels and the type of content they air until you explained it. So I understand now why they had to do certain things to indulge the channel and its audience. Though I’m mostly happy with how the show turned out to be in the end, it’s still tragic to imagine what could have been if their creativity hadn’t been restrained.
Yes, I can’t watch these holier than thou scenes between Lavanya, Khushi, and Nani. I love all three women, Nani isn’t the usual ‘has to be strict all the time’ grumpy person, she almost always down for a good time, sensitive to situations and is there to team up with anyone for fun, Khushi is a courageous little ray of sunshine I adore and Lavanya is sweet and realistically portrayed. Her growth is beautiful to watch. Also, these three have great chemistry together and I love watching their scenes except when they are there to moral police Lavanya and it’s supposed to be a ‘good thing’ and we are supposed to nod along to the misogyny.
Arnav and Lavanya’s relationship isn’t healthy, it’s quite bad - there’s dishonesty, some power imbalance and their expectations of another isn’t aligned. But, here’s what I think about the cheating:
I feel like Arnav did cheat on Lavanya quite a number of times, emotionally and Diwali time included. Arnav and Lavanya were committed enough to be in a live in relationship and they both had feelings for another (Lavanya more than Arnav and I’m not saying they had the same intensity as between Arnav and Khushi.) At no point during that time was it okay for him to be attracted and have feelings for Khushi or lead on Lavanya because he didn’t want to deal with them. Frankly, it was disrespectful and cruel.
Arnav recognized the attraction and did everything he could to deny the said attraction and feelings. He hated the loss of control when it came to Khushi and how she made him feel. Every time Khushi asked why did it matter - he knew why it did but never wanted to admit it. It was not unknown to them what they were feeling, they might not know the depth of it, but it was attraction that much they both knew.
He wasn’t honest with himself neither does he acknowledges that he feels that way. Him gathering all those feelings weren’t something he could control, he could, however, control his honesty and how his and Lavanya’s relationship would proceed after everything.
He’s not actively pursuing Khushi behind Lavanya’s back and most of ArHi interactions are accidental but he’s also never actively putting an end to it. When doing that, he’s hurting Lavanya.
He also actually admits it himself in Episode 142 - I didn’t do the right thing with Lavanya…maybe ever. When he finally realized how unfair he was being and confessed how he actually felt to Lavanya was something he should have done a long time ago.
[I do realize they are fictional characters and things are written or done the way they were for the narrative. I am just sharing my own opinion that there was definite cheating.]
2. Kidnapping Track
I look forward to your discussion about this track. The Kidnapping track was fine, it’s the subplots I had an issue with. Like you mentioned Bubbly, that Uncle etc.
“We probably would’ve gotten more interaction between the four of them and it would’ve been a delight to see them - considering the New Year Episode & the Akash suicide track, the four of them are like fireworks together!”
Yes, this is what I meant. All four characters had chemistry which should be explored further. The New Year episode is one of my favorites.
Additionally, Akash and Payal should be developed further as their own characters, aside from the main protagonists, and have their own story independent of Arnav and Khushi’s which would have been interesting to follow. Also Khushi-Payal’s sisterhood. I mean, after the marriage, not once did Payal asked Khushi if she was doing okay with that creep being in the same house or anything normal siblings would discuss. Their entire relationship went down the drain after the hate marriage.
This isn’t the best example to provide but this is what I can think of right now, in The Office, Jim and Pam has their love story and then there’s Dwight and Angela happening around the same time. It’s interesting to follow both even when one love story isn’t affecting the other love story.
3. Khushi Attempting Suicide
I am sorry about your loss, S.
I agree with you completely - this is the one track the writers on the team should have all said a definite no to. There’s already enough misunderstanding and misconceptions about mental illness and the last thing anybody needs is a whole ass track dedicated to showing funny it was that the main protagonist wanted to kill herself. Silly girl.
Then they never show any kind of support for Khushi and she’s completely isolated after the incident. The entire track is disgusting just like the thing you told me about the other show.
Again, thank you for responding and discussing this with me. The magic of the show is evident in the fact that there’s still something to discuss nearly a decade after the show aired.
I’ll be looking forward to more of your content.
P.S Give your cats some of my love, okay?
Hugs,
Raven.

in Arnav’s rather stupid plan of the contract marriage to save his sister’s happiness, he unknowingly directly put khushi in her s*xual/mental harasser’s way, giving him both physical and mental access to her whenever he wanted; I know nothing of the sort happens in the show but if Shyam was to do something far worse than what he did do with the creeping around her at all times to khushi and arnav found out, how do you think he would react? Would that be the straw that broke the camel’s back for him
Hey anon,
I think your asks got broken but I'm not entirely sure!
Just a couple of things:
Arnav did not know Shyam was Khushi's assaulter/stalker. In Arnav's eyes Khushi is a woman demanding a very married man to divorce his wife so she can be with him.
Arnav's plan was not stupid, he knew Khushi was traditional enough to leave her pursuit of Shyam if she was married as well (considering Khushi was agitated with Shyam being married).
If a brother in law that he trusted blindly for 4 years deceive him, then there's no telling of a woman he knew for less than a year.
The issue is that we saw a lot of Shyam harassing Khushi for no plot purpose and it is really triggering. Half of them is to maintain the misunderstanding Arnav has and he is our hero - he's supposed to save the heroine from the villain.
And I have a bitter aftertaste with the way they deal with the whole harassment as a whole.
And it's really painful cause Arnav is responsible for most of Khushi's worst pains and endangering her the most. It's really tragic.
In fact there is a beautiful fan fiction EXACTLY on this premise and it is called Sins by the lovely Expelliarmus/Juhi.
It's a MUST read.
Best,
Jalebi

i’ve seen people talk about how it’s ok to skip 3.05 because it’s not really important plot-wise, and i’m here to say
don’t
because what is this show if not insular, self-indulgent character studies?
this episode gives us much needed perspective on bruce wayne, who’s been a phantom or a hallucination or this weird trickster figure so far, always present but providing help in only the most oblique of ways. the scene in 3.01 where barbara tears bruce a new one and accuses him of “putting jason in the ground” hits different when we know that bruce had tried so hard to reach out to jason and had practically begged him to not be robin but just his son. the part where dick discovers that bruce had already started looking into potential robin recruits provides insight into how much bruce-the-father struggled to reconcile keeping his son safe with batman-the-vigilante that had spent literal decades making batman-and-robin utterly integral to the knife’s-edge equilibrium in gotham city. dick’s all-consuming resentment towards bruce in the entire first season is only part of a much more complex relationship between them, and losing dick had rocked bruce enough to willingly seek help and try not to repeat the same mistakes with jason.
the gradual reveal of the extent of this complex dynamic between bruce and his sons is the single consistent throughline that i can think of in this show, right from the pilot to the present, and 3.05 is a huge part of that.

48 hours in Allahabad | Nat Geo Traveller India
Amble around the ancient city and take in its storied history.
Cities Uttar Pradesh Kalpana Sunder | POSTED ON: September 20, 2019
In anticipation of the 2019 Kumbh Mela, over 100 artists from India and abroad added a splash of colour to the city’s facades. Photo by: NurPhoto/Contributor/NurPhoto/Getty Images
Allahabad, recently renamed Prayagraj, brims with sanctity, heritage, and wonder. Although the rich culture of this Uttar Pradeshi gem begs to be explored in-depth, much of the city can be experienced in 48 hours—if you know where to go. Witness the holy confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers at the Triveni Sangam; learn about the ‘City of Prime Ministers,’ starting with Anand Bhavan, the idyllic manor of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru; and traverse the cityscape burgeoning with a rich and varied culture of architecture, influenced by the likes of Emperor Akbar and British colonial rule. From being a historical hub of seminal Indian writers to being one of the four pilgrimage sites where the massive Kumbh mela is held, Allahabad is a hotbed of tradition and excitement, waiting to entertain travellers with all it has to offer.
Day 1
6 a.m.: A Holy Dip
Start the day with a sunrise boat ride to the Triveni Sangam, the auspicious junction of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. On the journey, see worshipers bathing in the water to wash away their sins, a ritual known as moksha. Visitors will also catch a glimpse of Allahabad Fort, an awe-inspiring structure that took over 45 years for Emperor Akbar to build in the 16th century. If you have the courage to brave the crowds, try and time your visit with the Maha Kumbh mela (once in 12 years) or Ardh Kumbh mela (once in six years). This religious congregation is often referred to as the largest gathering of humans in the world, a spectacle that can reportedly be seen from space.
10 a.m.: Amble at Akbar’s Fort
After returning to shore, walk along the banks of the Yamuna to Allahabad Fort. Built by Akbar in 1583, it is immediately apparent why the fort is placed strategically next to such a large religious site—to collect a sizeable pilgrimage tax. During the British Rule of India the fort was captured by the East India Company and used as the headquarters of their local army unit due to its desirable location. Even today some parts of the fort are under the control of the Indian army.
With its imposing walls, gateways flanked by stout towers, and mesmerising mix of mughul artistry, Allahabad Fort remains an architectural gem. Photo by: arun sambhu mishra/Shutterstock
Yet the fort is more than a tactically designed military base. With its imposing walls, gateways flanked by stout towers, and mesmerising mix of mughul artistry, Allahabad Fort remains an architectural gem, despite its decrepit state. Moreover, the structure encircles important hindu artifacts and sites that predate the fort, such as: a subterranean temple called the Patalpuri Temple, the famed Akshaya Vat—a gargantuan banyan tree that is supposed to grant immortality to anyone who jumps from its branches—and the 10.7 m tall Ashoka Pillar from the third century Mauryan reign.
1 p.m.: Lunch with the Locals
Have a typical local meal of kachori and subji at Netram Mulchand and Sons ( 259, Katra Chouraha, Katra), which has been around since 1855, for good reason. Don’t forget to finish up your meal with hot jalebis.
  2 p.m.: A walk in the Park

Lion film overview: Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman Are extremely good on this surprising film
Lion film overview: Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman Are extremely good on this surprising film Lion film overview: The movie reverberates lightly into the recesses of the coronary heart
Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman in Lion
Easy, solid storytelling has no substitute. Lion is a shining testimony to that undying showbiz axiom. Director Garth Davis makes felicitous innovative picks and imparts emotional depth and range to a perilously wispy storyline. Aided admirably by his screenwriter (poet-novelist Luke Davies), Davis turns a stranger-than-fiction actual tale right into a -hour-lengthy myth so usual that it reinforces our collective faith in humanity in a time of rapid receding hope. Filmed in tough locations in India and markedly much less daunting ones in Australia, Lion brings to the screen the spectacular story of a boy from a terrible Indian own family who strays some 1,six hundred kilometers away from home, unearths a brand new existence Down beneath and, 25 years on, is miraculously reunited with his mom in a dusty village near Khandwa.
For his feature debut, Davis (a maker of commercials who collaborated with Jane Campion at the 2013 miniseries pinnacle of the Lake) harnesses the tale’s intrinsic emotional energy to craft a heartstrings-tugging, uplifting movie. Lion does now not precisely push the limits of the ‘awesome true story’ genre, however it achieves a serene, ennobling satisfactory that is hard no longer to be stunned through.
With managed depth, Lion mirrors the agony of separation, lack of home and blurring of identity at the same time as celebrating the regenerative energy of a mother’s love and exploring the perception of adoption in a state that has 30 million orphans.
The director steers clear of overt melodrama and attention-looking for stylistic prospers. He opts as an alternative for a steady, sedate approach shot through with empathy and heat. The sustained restraint that Davis brings to the table in portraying the improbable adventures of a boy misplaced and located lends the tale each relatable resonance and plain forte.
Watch the trailer of Lion:
https://youtu.be/9DbLKvpjFQk
Lion glides smoothly backward and forward between the sepulchral and the exuberant, the all-encompassing and the not unusual. It places the protagonist in the midst of a sweeping twirl of fate that is first coronary heart-breaking and then lifestyles-maintaining.
The amazing widescreen cinematography with the aid of Greig Fraser (0 darkish Thirty, Foxcatcher) frequently gives stunning and dynamic fly-cam views of the important Indian landscape. inside the procedure, it creates up a grand visual scale within which the story of an man or woman who’s no extra than an insignificant speck within the larger scheme of factors is sought to be framed. The drama in Lion is right away epic and intimate. it is superior extensively by way of a terrifically clued-in solid headed via Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel.
The occasions dramatized in Lion are obviously drawn from the actual-life reports of Saroo Brierley, a foundling adopted from a Calcutta orphanage within the mid-1980s by means of a Tasmanian couple. adapted for the display from Brierley’s e book a protracted way domestic, the movie stays actual to the spirit of the real tale. It in no way strays from the firmly practical measurement of Saroo’s struggles.
Dev Patel In Lion even as their mother (Priyanka Bose) toils to make ends meet, Saroo and his elder brother Guddu (Abhishek Bharate), lallygag around, scrounging for scraps to add to the own family’s restricted kitty. one day, Saroo falls asleep in a desk bound educate compartment and is transported all of the manner to Calcutta.
The boy is best 5 years old. He does no longer keep in mind either the name of his village or its location. In a large, chaotic town wherein people communicate a language he does no longer apprehend, the baffled Saroo courts grave danger at each turn. The well timed intervention of a type stranger helps him avoid extreme damage. He ends up in an orphanage run with the aid of the matronly Mrs Sood (Deepti Naval).
His kingdom of homelessness ends whilst he’s adopted by means of an Australian couple, Sue and John Brierley (Nicole Kidman and David Wenham), and taken to a at ease home in Hobart, Tasmania. The publish-adoption half of of Lion is devoted to Saroo’s efforts, greater than many years later, to discover his manner lower back to his village and his start mother with the assist of directions from Google Earth and his personal fading recollections.
Saroo is a sorted-out younger man absolutely secure together with his adoptive own family. His easygoing ways provide a sharp contrast to the issues and traumas of a 2d Indian boy that the Brierleys undertake, Mantosh (Divian Ladwa). The hero’s uneasy relationship with Mantosh is a far cry from his deep bonding with Guddu, now a distant reminiscence.
Having mixed in perfectly and having acquired transformative love from his adoptive circle of relatives, Saroo is now a full-on Aussie not able to narrate to the Indian students within the Melbourne college that he enrols in to have a look at inn management.
but the chew of a jalebi, occasioned by means of his Indian food-loving female friend Lucy (Rooney Mara), triggers overpowering feelings that push Saroo to try to are seeking for out his roots. portions of the movie’s second hour are distinctly weak and repetitive – those passages observe Saroo as he uses Google Earth to locate his home in India, running backwards from calculations of the average pace of Indian passenger trains in 1986 as a way to slim down the hunt radius.
Davis extracts delectably internalized performances from his cast. Lion will actually be remembered for all time as a watershed in Dev Patel’s career. He invests minimal visible effort in conveying the internal workings of a thoughts see-sawing between moms. v Nicole Kidman is as always properly in Lion as she has ever been in recent years. In a scene in which her person explains to Saroo why she selected not to have children of her very own, she brings a lump to the throat.
Lion movie assessment: Nicole Kidman and Sunny Parwar in a film still Sunny Pawar, who performs as Saroo’s younger self with natural aptitude, leaves a deeper imprint than absolutely everyone else. He captures the flummoxed boy’s internal turmoil inside the midst of a tragic turn of activities whilst he effects lights up the screen along with his presence.
Priyanka Bose, cast as Saroo’s organic mother, plunges headlong into her person with wonderful conviction and force.
Lion movie evaluate: Dev Patel and Priyanka Bose in a film nonetheless Rooney Mara, in the function of Saroo’s supportive romantic interest, receives the fast give up of the stick. She is caught with a really underwritten character, but she gets 2nd billing in the credit, a barometer of her big name repute.
Lion isn’t always a thunderous roar. it’s extra a soulful, reassuring purr that reverberates lightly into the recesses of the heart, curls up in a comfy location, and works its diffused magic. in a single phrase, fantastic.

 LION: My Movie Review
Sniff. Sniff.
While I do have colds, been sick for days now, but my sniveling was caused by watching Lion. This is a movie review and since I don’t really know how to make a review, I may end up summarizing the film instead. It is also kind of long. So, fair warning, spoilers ahead. But please, you need to see the movie. It’s moving, heartbreaking, it’s touching.
How I come across this movie: it’s Oscars season once again and there will be a lot of great films. First on my list is Hacksaw Ridge and I was supposed to watch it this weekend instead of Lion because come on, it’s Andrew Garfield and it’s based on a true story. Though I’m not quite a fan of war movies, I made an exception for Hacksaw Ridge because once I saw the trailer, I was hooked. But how come I watched Lion instead? Again, I planned to watch Hacksaw Ridge this weekend but during the week, while I was browsing instagram, I come across a picture of Viola Davis hugging a child named Sunny Pawar, the star of Lion. So I got curious and looked at the trailer for Lion. And I was a goner. It’s also based on a true story. I’m such a sucker for movies based on true stories. So I made it my weekend watch. I searched the web about interviews, behind the scenes, footages... I was so excited to watch it. There were warnings that tissues should be brought when watching because there will be sure crying. And they were right. I’m still wiping my tears as I am typing this.
So the movie: where do I begin? And what is it with stories of India? 3 Idiots, Like Stars on Earth and now this... all films touched my heart. Maybe because their plight is much similar to ours, their problems are like ours too. Maybe that made them more relatable for me.
So the movie begins with two young brothers - Guddu, the older one and Saroo, the younger one - stealing coals from a moving train, just so they could exchange it for two packets of milk. While waiting for the milk, Saroo asked Guddu if he could buy a jalebi - a fried street food. (I just had to type this because when they pronounced jalebi, it sounded very Jollibee to me - anyways). Guddu looked over. They only have the two packets of milk and nothing more. Guddu promised to buy a lot of jalebis for him. Saroo added that they would buy the whole shop. After that, the brothers happily returned home, dodging the questions of their mother about where they got the milk. The family was poor, with only the milk to share. Saroo offered some to his mother, but she shook her head. That scene for me, it showed how their family loved each other and will do anything for each other.
Guddu, being the eldest, has to go to work. Saroo wants to help in earning but Guddu refuses to bring him because he was small. But Saroo proved to his brother that though he was small, he could handle heavy lifting. What I loved about Saroo is that though he is very young, just five years old, he already knew that he has to help his family. This just tugs my heart. It’s so cruel that a child so young knowing these things. Kids at his age don’t have to even think of this. But he’s seen how hard his mother had worked, he’s seen how much his brother had done for them, so he must also helped. (And Sunny Pawar, watching all his scenes just made me want to hug him real tight).
Then we got to the ill-fated night when the brothers where separated. Guddu left the sleepy Saroo on a bench in a train station so he could ask about his brother working with him. He told Saroo to stay and wait for him. So Saroo stayed and waited but Guddu never returned.
That night was very tragic for Saroo’s family. It wasn’t just him who was lost that night (later on the film, towards the end, you’ll know why that night was so tragic).
In searching for his brother, Saroo got on a train and was trapped while it traveled miles and miles away from his home. He was alone. He was hungry. He was scared. He’d been on the train for several days. The train ended in Calcutta where they don’t speak his language (Saroo speakes Hindi while Bengali is used in Calcutta). He can’t read and write. None of his family can. He was lost more than ever. He was still screaming his brother’s.
I just feel for the young Saroo. And it is so scary in the eyes of a lost child how the world could be so cold and vast. He was almost got caught by, I don’t know who were they but they seemed like either human traffickers or those people making children begged on the street. He escaped and was temporarily rescued by a woman. I was relieved at first but that woman also had another motive. I was so happy that Saroo is such a smart and sharp kid that he knows that there is danger. So he ran away. I’m amazed by the way of how many running scenes the young Saroo did in this film.
He was brought up in the orphanage and was adopted into an Australian family. Even in the end, he never stopped asking for his mum. He never stopped asking the adults if they really searched for her.
Twenty-five years later, Saroo was starting another milestone in his life (college in Melbourne, he’s living in Tasmania), away from his loving foster family. While having a great time with his friends (some were Indians), he saw a dish of jalebi. He was drawn to it (as I was) and memories started to resurface.
It consumed him. He was obsessed at finding his family. He was always thinking about the family he lost and all the while he was slowly losing the family he already have. I get why Saroo never told his foster mom that he was looking for his family. He didn’t want to sound ungrateful. He was healthy. He lived at ease. He should be thankful. But he was still lost. He was still that little lost boy wandering in the streets of India. He was consumed by guilt. He kept seeing his brother anywhere. He knew that he could never live his life in peace knowing that his real family might be out there, still searching for him, his brother still calling his name, his mother still waiting for him to come home.
It was his willingness to help his family that made him lost that night. But it was the love and memory of them that paved his way back home, and of course Google Earth. I don’t know how to describe my feelings during that scene when Saroo found his home through Google Earth. He remembered the pattern of rocks where his mother worked and that was his starting point. I loved how that while Saroo was checking Google Earth there were also flashbacks of young Saroo as he was walking those streets. Tears fell (Saroo’s and mine) when he found his home. And the reason why he couldn’t find his home was because he was saying it wrong all along.
So finally told his foster mother what he’s been up to and she was accepting and hoped that he will meet his real mother. So to India he went.
I just had to admire Dev Patel in the last part of the movie where he retraced his steps. His character Saroo had never set foot there for twenty-five years but he was walking the streets from his memory. There was joy, melancholy and anticipation. And Dev Patel nailed it.
Saroo found his home but it was no more. He was frustrated. He found someone who could speak English and told him who he was. I thought at first that the man he talked to just left him but he was leading Saroo to where his mother was.
And with that. Isn’t a mother’s love amazing? She immediately recognized her son the moment she saw Saroo. She hugged him tight, kept calling his name and kept turning to the people around them to show them that her Saroo finally came home. In this moment, I didn’t hold back the tears. Their joy, longing and relief was so real. Though their reunion was mixed with grief when Saroo learned that his brother Guddu died that same night he got lost. The reason Guddu never returned that night was because he got hit by a train.
So the little boy finally made it home. And I love their final shot. It was of adult Saroo, walking in the train tracks. Guddu was there, finally smiling and calling him. Then we see again the young brothers, joyfully playing in the afternoon.
They showed an actual clip of Saroo’s real mother meeting his foster mom. It was another cry fest.
Wait. Let me get my bearing because I still can’t stop crying.
Everyone should watch this film. Especially if you needed a good cry. All the cast were amazing here. Sunny Pawar was a star. Dev Patel, gosh, I love you even more. And Nicole Kidman, wow. Her scenes were only little but they were powerful. And it helps to know that this film is working with organizations in helping the lost children in India.
Shall I recommend this: This movie is one of those which will stick with you for a long time. This is just one great story. Of course, I will recommend it.
Will I watch it again: yes. A million jalebis yes.
Fun fact: You will find at the end of the film why this movie is called ‘Lion’.
