Hi. Saw on a recent post that you use crutches to walk and use AAC device. How do you carry the device? I understand that they can have straps (mine does) but don't they whack the crutches as you walk? You don't have to answer this if you don't want to. I'm just asking as I feel like I have to choose between crutches and AAC and I'm just wondering if you'd be willing to share your solution. (Sorry if this sends twice. My wifi isn't great so I don't know think it sent the first time)
Most of the time I just use a regular strap, and my AAC bumps my leg when I walk. If I know I’ll be walking a longer distance, I have a harness that I wear. It holds the device with two clips close to my chest, and keeps it out of the way. I have pictures of it a ways further down on the blog, it comes in really handy.

Tips for autistic higher support needs OCs!
Writing:
•many many violent meltdowns very often very inconvenient and very disabiling
•if you write an nonverbal charecter then if they can they should probably have high tech AAC and not sign language (unless Deaf or other specific circumstances maybe,
but remember sign language like BSL and ASL is part of Deaf culture,
its not a quick fix its an entirely new language
and it requires good fine motor skills
most nonverbal people struggle with atleast one of those)
and not just "does fine with no communication"
•challenging behaviors like elopment, SIB, harming others, feacal smearing, destructive behaviour
•make sure level 3s are severely impaired in communication,
because a level 3 would not be just not able to speak and no other communication issues
they would have severe impairing issues in language aswell and in initiating communication!
Much more complex than simply a lack of speech,
and remember a level 3 could be verbal but they must be severely impaired in communicating
Drawing:
•have a G tube,
complete or most food refusal is actually quite common in autistic people and in autistic babys
and a G tube is often for long term
NG/NJ tube also can be really overwhelming and intolerable
•visible comorbidies like Down syndrome for example or FASD
•drooling
•lack of eye contact/not looking at the direction of the people seeing your drawing
•headphones/ear defenders if the OC would be able to cope with that feeling
•a stuffie!
•SEN buggy, or wheelchair for elopment or other reasons such as a delay in walking, a gait trainer, walker and other mobility aids too
•wearing elopment harness
•wearing bright colours so if runs into traffic when eloping people can see
•wearing a top with a puzzle piece or im autistic on or something like that

I met another AAC user while travelling today! she and her mom were interested in my roommate / partner’s car as it is a wheelchair converted vehicle. she did not have her device on her and was she was signing ( sign language ) to her mom so I did not know she was also a high-tech AAC user at first. I signed back saying that I understood which was an exciting moment for us both I think. it was really nice for her mom to take notice of me and my talker ( and AAC device harness ) which included me in the conversation. I learned she uses TouchChat and I / my partner shared that I use Avaz.

mosaic identities
very short post today, the second among a few consolidations / consolations for 2024.
in terms of how i identify as a regressor, the term *age* regression does not suit my preference as well as *skill* regression; yet, the two can be conflated easily, as they share many similarities. speech and toilet training never came naturally; they had to be forced in therapy sessions i remember all too well… by then, my literacy journey was well underway, and i could have gone on the same tangent and dived into my interests.
so i cant relate with being a baby or toddler in all facets; skill regression for me is to be harnessed (and ideally pushed) into a stroller, padded up in diapers, and typing on my aac tablet (rather than walking, toileting and speaking). with someone else, i may need some control (to make sure i stay inside - in my place), but otherwise i prefer doing things seen as adult (and even be interested in some of them, like political debate & world history), only that its more pleasant doing them while presenting as a baby.
as a highly masking developmentally disabled person, for now i identify more with the label of “skill regressor” rather than “age regressor”, by drawing back on some of the skills that would eventually overwhelm me, to curate an adult who is not as stricken by some, more “basic” skills, and can be a responsible, independent adult after their loss. however, i would not mind identifying as an age regressor if thats the correct term with my profile! regardless, you can choose to identify as whoever you want, especially if it enhances your confidence and view of yourself.
sending :3s your way :3

Creating an Inclusive School - Empowering Every Learner with Inclusive Education
What is Inclusive Education?
Inclusive education, also known as inclusion, is founded on the principle that every child deserves access to quality education, including those with disabilities and special educational needs.
As highlighted by UNICEF, "Robbed of their right to learn, children with disabilities are often denied the chance to take part in their communities, the workforce, and the decisions that most affect them." Check out the full article here - https://www.unicef.org/belarus/en/inclusion-children-disabilities#:~:text=Robbed%20of%20their%20right%20to,numerous%20programs%20around%20the%20world.
The article emphasizes the need to support all students to help them contribute their talents and knowledge to society. We at PHI Learning couldn’t agree more!
Inclusive education aims to foster equality, encourage social interaction, and enhance learning outcomes for everyone. It’s not just about helping students with disabilities succeed but about harnessing their valuable contributions to society. It’s not just about accommodating students with disabilities but about enriching the educational experience for all students.
Essential Teaching-Learning Aids and Equipment
Creating an inclusive classroom involves equipping classrooms with the right teaching-learning aids to meet the diverse needs of students. These include:
Educational Videos and Interactive Software: Make learning engaging and accessible with videos, audio, and personalized interactive experiences.
Digital Textbooks: Features like text-to-speech and adjustable fonts help make content accessible to more students.
Screen Readers and Magnifiers: Help visually impaired students read digital content.
Hearing Aids and FM Systems: Enhance hearing for students with auditory impairments.
AAC Devices: Provide alternative communication methods for students with speech difficulties.
Graphic Organizers and Visual Schedules: Aid in organization and task execution.
Manipulatives and Hands-On Materials: Support kinesthetic learners and students with cognitive disabilities.
Traditional Textbooks: Comprehensive and structured but may not meet all learners' needs, especially those with visual impairments or dyslexia.
The Role of Teachers in Inclusive Education
The role of teachers is crucial in ensuring inclusive education for all learners. Teachers must learn to be both empathetic and receptive when dealing with a classroom full of students with varying capabilities.
For this reason, we believe that the subject of teacher education is among the most important courses being taught in universities today.
Teachers are crucial to inclusive education but need ongoing training to learn how to effectively use teaching aids and equipment.
PHI Learning’s textbooks on the subject are designed to help educators enhance their teaching strategies and contribute to a more inclusive educational experience.
At PHI Learning, we are committed to the belief that education has the power to uplift and empower every student. This view underpins our choice to publish books that help incorporate inclusive education into the curriculum of B.Ed. and M.Ed. programs.
In India, most undergraduate and postgraduate Teacher Education courses include modules on inclusive education — and PHI Learning is committed to catering to their curriculum needs.
PHI Learning offers two bestsellers on this subject that provide comprehensive coverage for course requirements:

Moreover, their composition and manufacturing process yield durable panels resistant to external forces like wind and seismic activity. Consequently, this stability enhances safety and longevity in AAC-constructed buildings, rendering them ideal for diverse construction projects.
Easy Handling and Installation
The low density of AAC panels makes them easy to handle and transport, thereby streamlining the construction process. Consequently, this translates into reduced labour costs and shorter construction timelines, making AAC panels an attractive option for projects where efficiency is paramount. Moreover, the ease of installation allows for greater flexibility in design, allowing architects and developers to create innovative and sustainable structures.
Fire Resistance and Sound Absorption
AAC panels exhibit excellent fire resistance properties, providing added safety and peace of mind to building occupants. Furthermore, their inherent sound absorption capabilities contribute to creating acoustically comfortable indoor environments, enhancing overall liveability and comfort.
Applications of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Panels
AAC panels find extensive applications across various sectors, including:
Residential Construction
From single-family homes to multi-unit dwellings, AAC panels offer homeowners a sustainable and energy-efficient building solution.
Commercial Buildings
AAC panels are well-suited for commercial projects such as office buildings, retail spaces, and hotels, where durability, energy efficiency, and design flexibility are key considerations.
Industrial Facilities
In industrial settings, AAC panels can be used for warehouses, manufacturing plants, and other structures that require robust and resilient construction materials.
To Conclude
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) panels epitomize a significant advancement in sustainable construction. They offer benefits ranging from energy efficiency to structural integrity. Moreover, as the construction industry prioritizes sustainability and resilience, AAC panels are poised to play a fundamental role in shaping the future of building design and construction. Thus, by harnessing innovation and sustainability, civil engineers and architects can build a more sustainable environment for generations to come.

From Wind Power to Space: How Scotland is Leading the Way in Innovation
Scotland, known for its picturesque landscapes and rich history, is rapidly becoming a focal point of global innovation, particularly in renewable energy and space technology.
This transformation is not just reshaping the Scottish economy but also positioning Scotland as a leader in the critical sectors of the future.
Scotland’s journey toward innovation began with its investment in renewable energy, particularly wind power. The country boasts some of the world’s most ambitious renewable energy targets, with a plan to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, five years ahead of the rest of the UK.
Wind Power Dominance
Wind power is at the forefront of Scotland’s renewable energy landscape. The country is home to the world’s first floating wind farm, Hywind Scotland, which started operation off the coast of Peterhead in 2017. This project demonstrates innovative technology and highlights Scotland’s potential in harnessing wind energy from deeper waters where traditional fixed-foundation turbines are not feasible.
Scotland’s geographical advantage, with its expansive coastlines and high wind speeds, makes it an ideal location for wind power generation. This has led to the development of significant onshore and offshore wind farms, contributing to over 97% of the country’s electricity consumption coming from renewable sources in some months.
Innovation Beyond Wind
Beyond wind, Scotland is exploring other renewable technologies, including tidal energy and green hydrogen. Projects like the MeyGen tidal stream project in the Pentland Firth, one of the world’s largest tidal power plants, underscore Scotland’s commitment to innovation in renewable energy.
Ascending to the Stars: Scotland’s Space Sector
Scotland is also carving out a niche in the space sector, boldly leaping from terrestrial energy to celestial ambitions. The country’s strategy aims to secure 5% of the global space market by 2030, translating to an estimated value of £4 billion.
Satellite Launch Capabilities
Scotland is ideally positioned for satellite launches, given its high latitude and vast open coastlines facing the North Sea. This geographical positioning is perfect for polar and sun-synchronous orbits, commonly used by Earth observation satellites. As a result, several sites across Scotland are being developed as spaceports, with SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland leading the charge.
Building Satellites
Beyond launches, Scotland is significant in the satellite manufacturing industry. Glasgow builds more satellites than any city outside the United States, with companies like AAC Clyde Space leading in producing small satellites and CubeSats. Given the growing demand for small-scale, cost-effective satellites in global telecommunications, this expertise in small satellite technology is crucial.
Impact on Economy and Education
Scotland’s innovation in wind power and space technology is a testament to its engineering capabilities and a significant driver of economic growth. The renewable and space sectors create new jobs, attract investments, and stimulate science and technology education.
Educational Synergy
Scottish universities are integral to this innovation wave, offering specialised courses in renewable energy and aerospace engineering. Institutions like the University of Edinburgh and Strathclyde provide research and development that fuel these sectors. Moreover, these educational programs ensure a steady pipeline of skilled professionals ready to meet the demands of these growing industries.
A Pivotal Role
Scotland’s push from leading in wind power to making a mark in the space sector exemplifies its strategic diversification and commitment to innovation. By capitalising on its natural resources and historical strengths in engineering and technology, Scotland is not only enhancing its economic landscape but also playing a pivotal role in addressing some of the global challenges of our time.
As Scotland continues to innovate, it sets a precedent for other nations to leverage their unique strengths to significantly impact Earth and space.
