Do you think a car a torch a death is related to the lore whether it be the title or the actual song? What do you think the death is? For a while I thought the torchbearer died and that was the death, but that was wrong as the torchbearer is very much alive. My only other idea is that death is what Nico and the bishops try to control

I'm not the brightest when it comes to lore theorizing so don't quote me on this but 😭 even if Tyler didn't have the Dema storyline developed at all when he wrote the song (i think it explicitly has to do with suicidal thoughts and Christianity, not anything more), he's surely revisiting and taking inspiration from his old works to write the current narrative. Some self-titled/rab songs have made or are starting to make sense lore wise after we've gone far into the story but I personally think ACATAD is one of the few that Tyler has had in mind from the starting point, like the world-building stage. Not saying the lyrics perfectly match the story btw (in the song the demon is holding the torch and Josh is obviously not a demon lol) but Tyler took some concepts from the song and used them as building materials ig?

The car and the torch have obvious connections to the lore already, but like you implied, I think the "death" part is still ambiguous. We've seen a LOT of deaths so far, so it's not clear which one it might have to do with. I mean, it might have to do with all of them, as no death is insignificant especially considering the message behind the lore.

But one *possible* theory is that the "death" part hasn't happened yet. In the song, Tyler considers taking away the pain of the anonymous girl and dying in her place. Like how Christ sacrificed himself. We have yet to see the final battle between Clancy and Nico and some clues so far are hinting towards Clancy burning down Dema and sacrificing himself in it as a way of destroying/purging the world he created (overcompensation much?). If this is really how it goes down at the end, his demise COULD be the corresponding "death" with a capital D. WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE THO AND I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF CLANCY PERMANENTLY DYING. I think he'll get resurrected or something just like Christ if it happens (plz) Also I guess in this case the "death" could mean Nico's or Dema's symbolic death. The possibilities are endless lol

first of all - Vessel is my absolute favourite album of theirs, i love all it's songs so much and they all have a special meaning to me. HOTY is an extra special one to me tho<3

as an older sister who is very close with and protective of their younger sister, this one means a lot. whenever i listen to this song my heart goes warm and i think of her and how i would do anything for her happiness and safety.

thoughts on Clancy

Okay my my theories aren't fully polished (yet) but here's what I've got

The other day I saw someone saying that the lyrics for acatad were a bit confounding with the clancy storyline in mind, considering that the demon is the one with a torch, and we know that Torchbearer is a force for good in the story. And I agree!! However, I'd like to posit another approach to the story

The opening sings about leaving somewhere behind, a common theme in the Clancy plot. Next, we get the lines:

The demon sat there waiting on her porch It was a little dark, so he held a makeshift torch

Now it's easy to assume here that the "he" in question is the demon on her porch (I haven't figured out who "she" could be yet so don't ask lol) but a fun little thing about pronouns in the English language is that "he" doesn't necessarily mean the demon already mentioned- in my reading, these two lines are separate statements:

The demon sat there waiting on her porch

Blurryface/Nico is waiting on "her" porch, and

It was a little dark, so he held a makeshift torch

Torchbearer is holding up a torch for us to see

And this also makes a bit more sense with continuity, because the singer (Clancy) is currently driving away from "her".

Next the bridge, where we learn that the person with the torch is laying out plans that he'd made. To me, this is Torchbearer explaining the plot to take down nico to Clancy, who doesn't yet feel prepared for the task:

I knew my skin that wrapped my frame

Wasn't made to play this game

But ultimately chooses to take part anyway, if we pull from the Trapdoor theory that Clancy "uses [a name] he saw on a grave":

And then I said I'll take the grave

Please just send them all my way

Alternatively, the grave line could be Clancy putting himself in harms way for the Banditos (Scaled and Icy = Clancy is dead), but considering that they're all fighting against Vialism and the idea of death/suffering as noble/good, that's a bit more shaky.

Is this analysis perfect? No

Was if fun? Yes!

I'd also like to clarify that I don't believe this was the original intent of the song, because I'm fairly sure they didn't start using the Trench characters until at least Blurryface, but it's a compelling way to read the song in the context of what they've come up with in the time since it was written

I have too many words and not enough ability to write them all down but the first one that comes to mind is ADORABLE!! Downright adorable. “You taste like cinnamon” AAAA. Everything about this chapter is everything I could’ve dreamed about being in this chapter. A perfect finale, I’d say. In 18 chapters you’ve managed to write an amazing storyline with issues I would never dare confront because I don’t feel confident in my ability to write them. You, on the other hand, took them by the reins and managed to create amazing representation of what these things look like in real life.

Also, I’m gonna admit it: I squealed when he proposed. MR AND MR JOSEPH WOO

This was and will always be a great story. I’m glad to be here, glad I’ve stuck around, and glad you’re my moot :) I’ve been here for as long as you’ve been writing cinnamon, I think, and that’s such an amazing thing to me.
