I know yikyak itself is a blight but my college’s yikyak page has been like. WILDLY fatphobic lately to like a mask off violent degree. People in 2025 at a liberal arts school openly proclaiming that fatphobia isn’t real and that fat ppl should “lose weight or suffer” and that fat people are “morons” for believing in fatphobia. actually...
looking at a bunch of my old favorite mutuals blogs that have been inactive for years. i miss them, even if i never really talked to any of them. when you're mutuals with a person for so long they become a comforting presence even without talking. you see them every day and read their posts about their thoughts or feelings or about what's going on in their life and so on. and they just become a part of your daily life in such a subtle way.
and then one day they just never post again. without warning. shit sucks. i actually hate it.
#i think about so many old mutuals like every day#just wondering where they've gone and what they're up to and how their lives have turned out#i love them and miss them so much#actually there have been a couple times when old mutuals suddenly become active again after years#but i can't count on that -- most don't#i wish there was some website or app or whatever#that would make it possible to stay in contact indefinitely#like i just imagine something like linktree or whatever#but also something more#just this one central hub with one username and it is just saved forever#and so any person who remembers your name can just look it up and suddenly have access to all these ways to contact you#because i've had my blog deleted a few times and like i gotta slightly change my url every time#so if someone looks up my og blog url they won't be able to find me#and that shit makes me sad#just a slight change in url could mean the difference between staying in contact#whatever#i get like this occasionally#nostalgic and sad because i miss old mutuals#scrolling their long abandoned blogs#idk why i do this to myself lmao#i do it with facebook sometimes too#i haven't posted since like high school#and sometimes i go back and see all my friends' profiles frozen in time#because a lot of their profiles are also inactive for whatever reason#i don't know why this shit makes me so sad#so yeah if you're a mutual -- even we don't talk -- don't ever just randomly delete or become inactive#even if we don't talk you can give me your other socials or whatever#or even an email idc#i just don't want to lose connection with any of you -- when i'm 80 years old i wanna reminisce with y'all#and i wanna throw everyone a feast someday

I went my first full day without a smartphone :0
My phone is pretty dinky, it runs kaiOS, I can't send or receive images at the moment (I have to mess with the apn settings...), and some of the button placement is weird. But it's been really nice so far.
#kaios doesnt have any of the major socials so if i even wanted to access them id have to use the dinky browser lol#i do have a world radio app which is sick#plus i keep my ipod with me#but ya! i'm enjoying it!

today my nephew asked me what an mp3 reader is I finally understand my elders
#stuff like this happens all the time#every time we talk i realise that we're growing up in two completely different times#also he moves through apps#every time i mention something a website or some other thing you can find online#he asks what app is that#and I'm like baby no#the world is not made of apps#apps in the way they exist today are younger than you#or all the streaming platforms#i looked for a (definitly legal) movie in front of him the other day and i played it to check the quality#because him and his mom wanted to watch it and couldn't find it#and all he said was On what platform did you find it#i was like I'm gonna tell you a story#✨the story of internet in the early 2000✨#listen we grew up with internet meaning that the internet has grown with us which means that we know it#we know how to be safe on it we know what to do and what not to do we understand when something is real and when something is not#the problem with all these new generations is that yes they know how to use a phone since year one but in reality they have no idea about#the internet they have no idea about what they hold in their hands they have no idea about what they can do with it#what the hell they don't even know how to access the internet#they don't know websites they don't know every app is actually a website#the same nephew once turned on a computer and was so lost and disappointed he asked me#is there YouTube on this thing?#my child! you have the world at your hands and you're asking me if there is youtube in it#and yes of course he's a child he need to be thought stuff abd you're right#but also not if it makes sense#at least in my experience i was left completely alone on the internet and yes i was probably watched at a distance from my older siblings#but i was given the space and time to explore it at some point i had my very own computer i was on socials at a very young age#most of the people my own age where#and we were way more responsible with it#idk where am i going with this i don't really have a point

i’ve just been doing frankly terrible since the turn of the month, and even before that, so i just can’t give anything to this website
you might see me more now that school’s coming to a close for me (just one more week), but that doesn’t really change just how bad my mental state has been and how much i don’t really like being on here

oh well that's easy: tiktok rules. i think a lot of the hate for tiktok is completely unfounded and i say that as someone who refused to use it for years bc i bought into all the "china's using it to steal our info!!!1!" propaganda. because of the censorship on other American apps (including Tumblr by the way!!!), TT has been like my main source of information on everything Palestine, incl organization for protests, mass internet protests, etc etc. like yea there's misinfo and dumb shit but what platform doesn't have their share of that?
also i was on Reels the other day transferring cultbookclub videos over just in case TT gets banned and ohhhhh my god there's no contest, TT is 30000% more usable and efficient. and i have no idea why this is, but the comments sections on Reels maybe only rivals Reddit as far as it being a cesspool of the worst people and opinions you've ever seen in your life, maybe because it's connected to facebook? no idea but it's definitely a thing lol

FOREVER#b: that was like my childhood home!!!!!!!! i went on that app hours and hours every saturday i loved that thing#c: my first and only online friend ever until this year i met through there and they had their new social medias linked on their old accoun#but now i can't get to those#i realise most of u prolly won't know what popjam is#esp since it was only available in the uk#it was this instagram for kids app focused solely on art launched in i wanna say 2014?#and closed earlier this year#srsly now that i'm thinking about it this is really depressing#that's a shit ton of kids art that just got lost forever#all my first fandom stuff was there#popjam got me into internet art culture which got me into queer culture#now there's no way of accessing any of the art that inspired me when i was younger#this is like the library of alexandria#but for kids' and tweens' digital art

The other day I was hanging out with my partner and I got overwhelmed and wasn't able to communicate verbally, which happens sometimes, and I ended up stringing together various discord emojis to communicate. This then prompted my partner to provide me with my own communicative emojis to use, which is so sweet!! Even though I am able to communicate through words the majority of the time, it has been fantastic to have the addition of special emojis :3
I have been worried about trying alternative communication, and while the reasoning behind taking this step was a frustrating necessity, I am very glad to have gotten access to a wider range of ways to communicate :3
#they found a bunch of premade ones online but they also CREATED CUSTOM ONES FOR ME!!!!!#i do need to have discord nitro to access them in every server and its only on discord#so its not as widely applicable as a generic AAC app might be#but it is a good first step :3#ive also been looking into communication cards and i might make my own sometime#in the privacy of my own home with people i know. talking isnt really a problem. i still have quiet days but its not an issue.#when i leave the house it gets really hard to talk and i have shed many tears to get to the point of ordering my own food#and honestly. idk if it was worth it. i would rather be silent than suffer through social scripts.#anyways. yeah. im slowly integrating AAC into my life and it is really great so far :3#batty blogging#text
