I love that the most popular ace attorney mlm ships are all just some guy (Phoenix, Apollo, Ryunosuke) who is as close as these games get to normal (limit of one unique accessory) and the total heartthrob (Edgeworth, Klavier, Kazuma) who is absolutely head over heels smitten with him

So this is a comic I’ve wanted to do for a long time because it hits fairly close to home for me, but especially because I think this is foundational to Phoenix and Edgeworth’s relationship: trust. Throughout the games we see that they push and pull one another to get to the bottom of a situation, to discover the truth and do what’s right, even when it’s difficult. While obviously not canon, to me their relationship is so emblematic of kink it’s nearly unavoidable in my depictions of them--Edgeworth may always seem to be the ultimate string pulling master with a thousand tricks up his sleeve, but none of this could happen if he did not totally relinquish control via his unwavering trust in Phoenix.

Sometimes I think about how Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth’s relationship is the anime equivalent of Bert and Ernies relationships

all the gay lines in ace attorney are like “you’ve made me feel things i thought i was incapable of feeling” or “i wouldn’t be the same person i am today if i never meet you” and its still up to interpretation over if there’s a platonic meaning in canon. meanwhile all the lesbian lines are like “me and your mentor dated in college” or “i desired your mom carnally athena” and the only person questioning it would be in the game like “not like that right” and someone will respond with “whatever floats your boat ig” or something.

you know what, i'll defend ema's "intellectually attracted" comment because everyone assumes its her like, denying lanamia, but to be honest thats such specific phrasing that ten to one i think its something that lana said to her, where in a conversation lana was like

"man i hope mia's attracted to me" and then panicked in that way where youre like wait i didnt mean to Come Out like that and was like "uhh,,, intellectually attracted of course! ahahaha."

and young ema was like "okay!" and just internalized that and didnt question it because why would she question her cool older sister who she looks up to so much.

then it never came up until lana was in the detention center and ema was like oh! i can be helpful! in that little sister type way and hopped in like "intellectually attracted of course!"

and is too busy thinking i'm going to get a good grade in little sister (something normal to want and possible to achieve) because i said it the way lana said it :) to notice phoenix and lana sharing a Look like "she doesnt know im gay mr wright."

Then like five years later Ema's sipping coffee on a random morning, and realizes "wait what the fuck they were 100% dating"

"Phoenix and Edgeworth are just friends!"

Ah, yes. Dedicating your entire life and career in hopes of just meeting the one guy who defended you once in fourth grade is just something friends do.

So is doing it again just because he asks you to even though the process to get it back is extremely difficult, the job has gotten you routinely injured, and you've been out of it for seven years.

Having a scrapbook entirely dedicated to him too is also something friends just do along with calling him Daddy while you're both at work in what is supposed to be an extremely professional setting. Same with the guy also inexplicably having a picture of you wet and shirtless just lying around.

That's totally just friend stuff, yeah. Ain't nothing to see here.

**Edit:**Some people are taking this post as an attack on ace people, people who just believe they’re friends, or is saying that Phoenix’s behavior is fine and normal if it’s romantic but suddenly not if it's just purely platonic.

Spoiler alert: it’s doing none of those things.

This post is simply pointing out the sheer insanity of Phoenix’s behavior and how what he does is not by any stretch what friends typically do for each other and nor is it healthy, regardless of the circumstances. It is just saying that while it would still be incredibly unhealthy, it being romance based would have it make a lot more sense.

My favorite part of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is in Turnabout Corner. Apollo and Trucy arrive at the park and are trying to get into the crime scene. They meet Klavier Gavin (who’s brother was put in jail by Apollo) and he walks up to Apollo and practically goes:

Hey lil gay boy, you gay for me?

And then he lets them into the crime scene and leaves.
