one of the best things I did when transitioning my writing from solely fanfic to my original novel was developing a progress system.

all the premade software and planning books were just overwhelming and did not work for me. it also did not motivate me at all. i can not do sequential writing because i will get writers block and just not write.

so with google docs, i made a color system, and oh boy, it has been so helpful. i can see at a glance what has been done, what needs doing, and what could be worked on.

this helps because depending on how many spoons i have to write, i know where i can apply my given effort for the day. some days its just proofing, some days its just starting a chapter, and some days its knocking out a whole thing.

very helpful if you're AuDHD or have chronic conditions like me!

I'm not a big fan of TOTK and think its story is outright beyond saving but I do think that people's critiques of it tend to be really nitpicky and more importantly that people really tend to ignore BOTW's flaws while critiquing TOTK. Most of TOTK's flaws, specifically in regards to its story, are flaws BOTW also had. TOTK is simply more aggressive about it.

Zelda being sidelined with a thin narrative excuse? BOTW did that too, TOTK is just more obvious about it. Imperialism? BOTW did that too, TOTK is just more obvious about it. Zelda's arc being unsatisfying? Her arc in BOTW can be summed up as 'Zelda couldn't awaken her powers until she could', it's really not much better. Underdeveloping Rauru and Sonia? The Champions were underdeveloped in BOTW as well. I can keep going for a while.

TOTK's narrative problems are more glaring for a variety of reasons, but most of its problems are ones BOTW shares, and it does bother me when ppl nitpick TOTK to all hell and back while putting BOTW on a pedestal. Like let's be fair here, BOTW's story also sucks.

what if your best friend, who saved your life and got you out of a toxic situation with your parents and has protected you for over a century, was lonely, so you got him his ex-fling back by lowkey killing him and forcing your best friend to turn him into an immortal

only to find out, that that ex-fling actually is friends with your dad, who doesn't know you're still alive, and then your dad is pissed at your best friend, who is also your dad's ex, and makes him have to declare the ex-fling to a council of scary ancient vampires as his own, even tho they will try to kill you if they found out you exist because no one has declared you at all.

but then you realize that while your best friend, your first dad, and their ex-fling are doing that, you could go find your other dad who has apparently been in punishment for the past century because he didn't declare your first dad and is buried underground being kept by a coven of witches.

well, you could get him without him find out you're his daughter, because you kind of did kill him a century ago or tried to, and then take him to try and help your best friend not get killed, only for your second dad to betray everyone to save your other dad and doom your best friend, you, and your new brother/best friends ex-fling for death....

oh, and your best friend has also been erasing everyone's memory in secret for over a century because of a curse he won't quite tell anyone completely about that has to do with his maker, a demon, and the fate of vampire kind... but he would NEVER do that to you. right? right?
