I don't clap back at anti-Zionists, because they don't deserve the attention, nor the added notes on their posts, but I think you did something meaningful in your ask, and I wanna highlight that, because you deserve the attention and applause.

So, someone who's anti-women, but doesn't wanna come across that way, will claim to just be speaking against feminists, and that there's no connection between women and feminists, because not all women are feminists! "Here," they'd say, "a tokenized anti-feminist woman!" But there is an intrinsic connection between the two, which is why it's no surprise that most women are, in fact, feminists.

The same goes for Zionism. Just like feminists wanted the right to vote to be equally applied to women, Zionists want the right to self-determination to be equally applied to Jews. Just as feminism is the liberation movement of women, Zionism is the liberation movement for Jews. Zionism is inherent to Jewish identity, and it's no coincidence that the overwhelming majority of Jews are Zionists.

One indicator that anti-feminism works to hurt women, is to take an anti-feminist statement, and replace "feminist" with "most women." Here's an example:

"Feminists are incapable of crafting a coherent argument using their words." -> Most women are incapable of crafting a coherent argument using their own words. Does that sound anti-women?

So a quick way to see that anti-Zionist statements are antisemitic, is to replace "Zionists" with "the majority of Jews," exactly as you have done, and see if it sounds antisemitic (every single one of the following examples is real, posted on Tumblr):

"Zionists should never feel safe" -> The majority of Jews should never feel safe.

"I don't want Zionists among us" -> I don't want the majority of Jews among us.

"Zionists always lie" -> The majority of Jews always lie.

"Arm yourself with knowledge to defeat Zionists" -> Arm yourself with knowledge to defeat the majority of Jews.

"Fuck Zionists" -> Fuck the majority of Jews.

Regarding the OP's post (not the antisemite's reblog), I wanna mention that OP's introduction of "dogwhistles" is kinda lacking. I mean, everything they said is true, but there are additional dogwhistles that they didn't address, ones which are more encoded than their examples.

For example, one dogwhistle neo-Nazis use is the numbers 18 (like in German neo-Nazi group "Combat 18") and 88. A is the 1st letter in the Latin alphabet, H is the 8th, so 18 is AH (stands for Adolf Hitler) and 88 is HH (stands for Heil Hitler, the Nazi greeting). On the surface, these are just innocent numbers, but for Jews who are familiar with neo-Nazi dogwhistles...

Another example of a dogwhistle is one that I've had an anti-Zionist type of antisemite use with me once. She's a Muslim young woman, I won't say from which country, but one that's very hostile to Israel, and where there's no free press. One antisemitic thing she said was that none of the prophets of Islam were Jews. Just a quick reminder, the prophets of Islam include mostly Jews, like Abraham (mispronounced as Ibrahim in Arabic), the patriarch of the entire Jewish nation, Moses, who delivered the Jews from Egypt (Moussa), King David (Daoud) and Jesus (Issa). Denying their Judaism is an antisemitic act easily called out by most people. But this woman also said to me, "Go plant gharqad trees." This one most people will miss. There is a Muslim hadith (a saying attributed to Muhammad, but reported by someone else), which states: "The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: oh Muslim, oh the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews." This hadith is quoted in the founding charter of Hamas. So in this context, "Go plant gharqad trees," is telling a Jewish person to prepare themself for the extermination of Jews. It's a genocidal dogwhistle. Ironically, this dogwhistle is so common, it has actually become its own anti-Israel propaganda piece, circulated in anti-Israel circles, where they claim that Israeli Jews are ordered to plant gharqad trees.

And one more example of a dig whistle! The infamous "From the river to the sea" qualifies. On the surface, it sounds like a peaceful chant for the liberation of a people. In reality, it is the English translation of a racist and genocidal slogan, stating that ALL of the land between the river and the sea (meaning, the territories currently under Palestinian rule AND Israel) will be Arab. To a Jewish person, this is at the very least a call for an ethnic cleansing via expulsion of the Jews, but we all know that this won't happen through just expelling the Jewish population, so an Arab country covering all of Israel will only exist through the shedding of a lot of Jewish blood. It IS genocidal.

Lastly, the incrdible @tzomet-spy-pigeon made a really important addition, pointing out that OP has actually posted antisemitic dogwhistles themselves, of the anti-Zionist variety of antisemitism. So I just wanna make it clear: people who come out against one type of antisemitism (such as the white supremacist kind) are NOT exempt from being guilty of perpetuating others (like the anti-Zionist kind).

A Small Note

It was Christopher Hitchens, perhaps quoting someone else, who once offered that the problem with Judaism is that “it leads to Christianity.” It was half said in jest. In a similar spirit, I would humbly propose a slight amendment and suggest it actually led to monotheism, or the beginning of it as the regnant conception of the deity. Indeed, the two largest religions in the world - Christianity and Islam - are inheritors of the Jewish tradition, claiming descent from the latter’s own proclaimed father-figure, Abraham, or Ibrahim. When Jesus appeared, he did not seek to overthrow Judaism and usher in a new religion. He conducted his ministry as a Jewish rabbi. His followers started a new faith movement, especially Paul, who perhaps did more than any other member of that first generation to evangelize the world outside of the Israel of his day. 

From the landscape of what we now might call Arabia, Muhammad would also have an eye towards the father of Ishmael and Isaac, and proclaim himself another in the line of prophetic figures spanning Abraham, Moses and Jesus. This was of course a fastening of his own movement to Judaism, as the founders of Christianity had also done, while perhaps still considering themselves Jews who had recognized the Messiah. Or just Jews who were bringing news of the Messiah’s coming, death and resurrection to the peoples of Asia Minor and Rome, and proselytizing them towards a faith that was adjacent to Judaism. It is therefore no mystery why all three faiths have some attachment to Jerusalem, a 2,000-year old development that has caused among other things, a host of problems for regional and international peace and security.

This primordial tendency towards Judaism has an even more devastating effect. Rather than simply borrowing from Judaism or even claiming descent from some scriptural aspects of the religion, certain people have preferred to assume the entirety of its identifiers and determine that they are in fact the real Jews. On some level (and one would have to wear the religious mindset for a brief moment to get this) it is understandable why people would do this. In the Bible itself, it is written that Jews are God’s “chosen people”. Well, if Christians have such a thing in the one book they say is the precise and immutable word of God, then certain attitudes towards the Jews are going to be unavoidable in the Christian heart. Couple this with the refusal of Jews to acknowledge the divinity and messianic status of Jesus, then conflicting feelings towards them are almost certain. 

The things people choose to hold religiously within their own hearts, despite their clear collision with reason and common sense, is entirely a private affair; and though they no doubt must strain, many do live normal lives while enduring under the contradictions. But this claim of the real Jewish identity, openly and socio-politically, is dangerous. Indeed, just within the past year, it led to the deaths of Jews in upstate New York, and a would-be massacre in New Jersey. These atrocities were carried out by members of a deranged sect calling itself the Black Israelites. Now, to be sure, there are black and African Jews and Israeli citizens, and one must not mistake them for this group of quacks who are quick to commit violence. 

What we should begin to consider with seriousness is the publicity this quack contingent is enjoying, as its nonsense is spread by people who aren’t necessarily members of it, but nonetheless believe its arguments, and are otherwise prominent cultural figures pushing it under some grave misapprehension of “black empowerment”. Louis Farrakhan, a despicable crackpot and bigot is likely the leading figure in this movement to describe those calling themselves Jews, especially in these United States, as imposters who stole the rightful identity of the black man. Well, the black man is noble enough, with a heritage to be damn proud of. He doesn’t need to acquire for himself another’s. The pro-footballer, DeSean Jackson, of the Philadelphia Eagles just last week repeated the hateful lie, claiming Farrakhan and Adolf Hitler as authoritative progenitors of this “truth”. (At its most innocent, it requires a brain teeming with dead cells and cat food to quote Hitler for the singular purpose of boosting one’s own argument). Thankfully, Jackson apologized for that grotesquerie. 

A few days later, Nick Cannon opted to wade into those same insane waters, assured that he and his podcast guest, a clown calling himself Professor Griff, the Minister of Information, had unlocked some special knowledge. Of course, it was nothing original, just a plagiarism of a lie. This is one of the most galling aspects of this whole thing - its proponents believe they are so smart, and are operating on a higher plane of intellectual bandwidth that the rest of us have yet to prove ourselves capable of. In reality, they are historical illiterates and ignoramuses, who must be getting their study under the tutelage of bizarre “Afro-centric” lunatics, or the subterranean recesses of YouTube channel-dom and the pages of self-published books by some weirdo in Harlem. 

Our society began doing itself a disservice when the ranks of those who believe truth is subjective, even mystical, and does not require the rigors of academic inquiry, began to swell. As grim irony would have it, just a few days ago, the National Museum of African-American History and Culture itself would display this same idiotic tendency by issuing a graph which listed the “scientific method” as just one more aspect of white dominance, or whatever nonsense. Never mind that such a thing would thrill white supremacists; it is also a message that would do incalculable harm to black Americans who come under its influence. It would be an enormous tragedy if, right at that moment when racism in America is capturing the attention of a broad majority of Americans who have been awoken to its material reality in 2020, and the Black Lives Matter movement, a popular uprising, has attracted tremendous sympathy and support largely across the spectrum, some find it the enchanted moment to embrace fanaticism and stupidity in some misguided notion of what it means to be pro-black.

Today, April 24, marks the “Great Crime,” that is, the genocide of Christians—mostly Armenians but also Assyrians and Greeks—that took place under the Islamic Ottoman Empire, throughout World War I.  Then, in an attempt to wipe out as many Christians as possible, the Turks massacred approximately 1.5 million Armenians, 300,000 Assyrians, and 750,000 Greeks.

More than one million Armenians perished as the result of execution, starvation, disease, the harsh environment, and physical abuse.  A people who lived in eastern Turkey for nearly 3,000 years [more than double the amount of time the invading Islamic Turks had occupied Anatolia, now known as “Turkey”] lost its homeland and was profoundly decimated in the first large-scale genocide of the twentieth century.  At the beginning of 1915 there were some two million Armenians within Turkey; today there are fewer than 60,000….  Despite the vast amount of evidence that points to the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide, eyewitness accounts, official archives, photographic evidence, the reports of diplomats, and the testimony of survivors, denial of the Armenian Genocide by successive regimes in Turkey has gone on from 1915 to the present.

In her memoir, Ravished Armenia, Aurora Mardiganian described being raped and thrown into a harem (consistent with Islam’s rules of war).  Unlike thousands of other Armenian girls who were discarded after being defiled, she managed to escape. In the city of Malatia, she saw 16 Christian girls crucified: “Each girl had been nailed alive upon her cross,” she wrote, “spikes through her feet and hands, only their hair blown by the wind, covered their bodies.”

Even Adolf Hitler had pointed out that “Turkey is taking advantage of the war in order to thoroughly liquidate its internal foes, i.e., the indigenous Christians, without being thereby disturbed by foreign intervention.”

But even the most cited factor of the Armenian Genocide, “ethnic identity conflict,” while legitimate, must be understood in light of the fact that, historically, religion accounted more for a person’s identity than language or heritage.   This is daily demonstrated throughout the Islamic world today, where Muslim governments and Muslim mobs persecute Christian minorities who share the same race, ethnicity, language, and culture; minorities who are indistinguishable from the majority—except, of course, for being non-Muslims, or “infidels.”

As one Armenian studies professor asks, “If it [the Armenian Genocide] was a feud between Turks and Armenians, what explains the genocide carried out by Turkey against the Christian Assyrians at the same time?” The same can be said about the Greeks. From a Turkish perspective, the primary thing Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks had in common was that they were all Christian “infidels.”

According to a 2017 book, Year of the Sword: The Assyrian Christian Genocide, the “policy of ethnic cleansing was stirred up by pan-Islamism and religious fanaticism.  Christians were considered infidels (kafir).  The call to Jihad, decreed on 29 November 1914 and instigated and orchestrated for political ends, was part of the plan” to “combine and sweep over the lands of Christians and to exterminate them.”   As with Armenians and Greeks, eyewitness accounts tell of the sadistic eye-gouging of Assyrians and the gang rape of their children on church altars. According to key documents, all this was part of “an Ottoman plan to exterminate Turkey’s Christians.”

Today, from Indonesia in the east to Morocco in the west, from Central Asia in the north, to sub-Sahara Africa—that is, throughout the entire Islamic world—Muslims are, to varying degrees, persecuting, killing, raping, enslaving, torturing and dislocating Christians; where formal Islamic groups such as the Islamic State (ISIS), Al Shabaab, Boko Haram, etc., hold sway, Christians and other “infidels” are literally experiencing a genocide.

In 1915, Adolf Hitler rationalized his genocidal plans, which he implemented some three decades later, when he rhetorically asked: “Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

And who among today’s major politicians speaks—let alone does anything—about the ongoing annihilation of Christians by Muslims, most recently (but not singularly) seen in the Easter Sunday church bombings of Sri Lanka that left over 300 dead?

Nefertiti's Bust has created a long-standing rift between Egypt and Germany, with the bust currently being held by the latter nation in Berlin’s Neues Museum, and having been in the country for more than 100 years. 1 The issues with Nefertiti’s Bust began following its excavation by a team of German archaeologists led by Ludwig Borchardt in 1912. 2 At the time the English protectorate of Egypt allowed non-egyptian excavators to retain a share of their findings, with the rest remaining in Egypt to preserve any unique or important artifacts while still encouraging legal excavations. 3 When Borchardt submitted lists for inspection the bust was left off the list and its box was not opened by officials so the massive bust managed to be smuggled out of the country without notice. 4 It was first displayed in 1923, and in the years following Egypt has attempted numerous times to have the bust returned to them. Adolf Hitler refused in 1933, the Allied Control Council refused in 1946, and Germany refused again in 2011 following a series of campaigns led by Zahi Hawass, the then-secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt. 5

2020 saw a resurgence in Egyptian efforts demanding the return of Nefertiti among other artifacts, citing the deceitful division process that occurred, while Germany disputes this. 6 Egyptian officials have stated that the nation “would not cede its right to reclaim Nefertiti's bust” while German officials consider the piece a component of the “shared history” between the nations and is working on exhibitions and projects with Egyptian museums and ministries. 7 The arguments here and the repeated conflicts over this bust are a perfect microcosm of the reality of many repatriation efforts, displaying how these discussions occur and what the arguments of the opposing nations are and what they represent. For Germany, this piece is a priceless artifact and a massive draw for visitors ($$$), and allegedly cannot be safely stored in Egypt. For Egypt, it is a piece of cultural history, an ancient part of the land. This has made me think of the Nine Principles of Archaeological Ethics outlined by the Society of American Archaeologists, which emphasize outreach to marginalized groups, multivocality, respect, and ensuring that stewardship of artifacts is dictated by the descendants of the people they belonged to. 8

Mohammed bin Salman visits US: Big issues to watch

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will meet with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (AFP)

NEW YORK, United States – Before Saudi Arabia’s trailblazing crown prince touches down in the US on Monday, locals will have already had a chance to decide what they think of the 32-year-old petro-royal and his rapid social, political and military reboot for the desert kingdom.

The excitement and alarm that surrounds Mohammed bin Salman – or MbS as he is also known – has already crossed the Atlantic ahead of his meeting with President Donald Trump on Tuesday and a multi-city US tour for trade and finance talks.

A 60 Minutes interview of the steely-eyed millennial will air on Sunday. In teasers for the show, he likened Iran’s supreme leader to Adolf Hitler and said Saudi would quickly get a nuclear bomb if Tehran develops its own doomsday device.

Equally shocking was a NBC News report that bin Salman, widely viewed as the power behind the throne of his father, King Salman, stopped his mother from seeing the 82-year-old monarch for fear she would stymie his rise to power. At one point, he reportedly caged her in a palace.

Keeping mum: MBS puts mother under house arrest, says report

Riyadh has spent millions on its well-oiled PR machine, persuading wonks and lawmakers that bin Salman is a reformer – lifting bans on cinemas and women drivers as he counters religious bigotry and weens the kingdom off its declining oil reserves.

But the mostly-Saudi 9/11 hijackers cast a long shadow over US-Saudi ties. Critics deride bin Salman as a risk-taking autocrat whose gambles in Yemen and Qatar and bellicose rhetoric on Iran are making an already-turbulent region worse.

This week, the Washington Post daily urged the “bold modernizer” to prove he is a true reformer by releasing political prisoners, including the blogger and activist Raif Badawi who was sentenced to 10 years in jail and 1,000 lashes in 2014.

The visit is not just window dressing. Bin Salman may meet Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, Los Angeles movie moguls, oil industry tycoons in Houston and New York financiers to drum up support and greenbacks for his Vision 2030 agenda back home.

The Saudi strategy toward the US is built on the Trump family connection

For this, he must persuade US investors he is no wildcard, and that locking up dozens of top officials and businessmen in Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel in an anti-graft purge did not show weaknesses in Saudi’s rule of law.

It won’t be easy, said former CIA officer Bruce Riedel. The sparkplug royal will have to leverage his personal ties with Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner and others to further his goals in a frenetic White House, Riedel told Middle East Eye.

“Saudi strategy toward the US is built on the Trump family connection, expensive lobbyists and bashing Iran. The prince has little experience of the intricacies of US politics, which are more complicated than ever in the Trump era,” Riedel said.

As MbS fever grips America, MEE picked out the four key issues to watch.

Yemen

Revelations this week that Saudi officials are in peace talks with their Iran-backed Houthi foe in Yemen may not wholly allay concerns in Washington about the civilian death toll from Riyadh’s three-year-old military campaign next door.

Leftist senator Bernie Sanders and others are touting a resolution to pull US support for the Saudi-led coalition, which would deprive Riyadh of US intelligence support and the refuelling of aircraft that bomb Houthi targets.

Gerald Feierstein, a former US ambassador to Yemen, outlined “fair prospects for passage” of the bill even though US military backing for the war was “incidental” and halting it would “not force the coalition to withdraw”.

“But, on the eve of the crown prince’s visit, the Senate resolution should be seen as a warning to the administration and to the Saudis that patience over the continued war in Yemen and its humanitarian consequences is wearing thin,” Feierstein told MEE.

“The Saudis do not have a great wellspring of support or sympathy to draw on here.”

Qatar and White House reshuffle

Bin Salman will enter a West Wing in flux – even by the standards of this turbulent administration. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was unceremoniously sacked via Twitter this week and national security adviser HR McMaster faces a similar fate.

Meanwhile, Kushner has been stripped of his top secret security clearance as federal investigators probe whether his talks with officials and businesspeople from Qatar, the Emirates and elsewhere had any influence on later White House policy.

Bin Salman must navigate this geo-strategic labyrinth. Tillerson worked to protect Qatar, which has been blockaded by Saudi, the Emirates and others over claims that it was too cosy with Iran and bankrolled terrorists, which Doha denies.

Tillerson’s exit opens up Riyadh’s ability to pressure Doha – a process that bin Salman has likened to the seven-decade rift between the US and Cuba. The top US diplomat’s replacement, Mike Pompeo, may echo Trump’s tougher lines on Qatar and Iran.

“The Saudis are much assured by Pompeo moving to State, they know him and he is a hawk on Iran,” Riedel told MEE.

“Behind the formal meetings and official statements, the Saudis will try quietly to assess the future of Trump’s team. The removal of Jared Kushner’s top-secret clearance and the mounting legal jeopardy surrounding his future imperil the prince’s most valued interlocutor.”

Aramco selloff

On a recent visit to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), executives told MEE they were working hard to convince Saudi officials to trade oil giant Saudi Aramco on Wall Street, rather than rival bourses in London, Hong Kong and elsewhere.

Bin Salman plans to sell 5 percent of Saudi Aramco and raise some $100bn to fund reforms, but is understood to have qualms about US regulators and exposure to costly lawsuits over everything from climate change to the 9/11 attacks.

Alex Ibrahim, NYSE’s head of international capital markets, addressed Riyadh’s concerns, telling MEE that Wall Street is the only venue capable of delivering “very large complex transactions” like Aramco’s looming initial public offering (IPO).

Anything bin Salman says about the IPO during his visit is likely to move markets.

Nukes

In spite of much talk of closer Israel-Saudis ties, little of this was on display when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the US earlier this month and urged Trump to block plans for selling nuclear reactors to Riyadh.

Bin Salman’s comments about matching an Iranian nuclear arsenal doubtless added to fears in Washington that Riyadh’s push for a civilian nuclear energy capability was worsening prospects of a Middle East arms race.

For the US deal to go ahead, Washington has urged Riyadh to sign a so-called 123 nuclear agreement, under which it would not enrich the uranium used to power nuclear reactors, which can also be enriched further to build atomic weapons.

Nuclear watchers will follow Trump’s meet with bin Salman for any development there. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the Republican chairman of a House subcommittee on the Middle East, has made her own plans to spotlight the deal.

A meeting on Wednesday marks an “opportunity to assess the status of Saudi Arabia’s nuclear plans, the implications if the US agrees to a deal below the so-called gold standard, and legislative options to increase Congressional oversight”, Ros-Lehtinen said in a statement.
