latest insanely cool thing i learned about is MaRock, a scene and countercultural movement in Botswana that have adopted the aesthetics and sound elements of heavy metal with a spin of their own.

They dress like goth metalhead cowboys and have developed a style of music infused with "a mix of African hard riddims, mid-70s Manchester punk, cacophonous dub, psychedelic swamp music, free-wheelin’ progjazz(...)" and more.

I found this article on the MaRock scene where the photos come from and it also interviews each person on these pictures where they talk about the cultural context of this movement coming from working class africans.Insanely good stuff
