Guidelines for Applicants
What is it about?
"FEY: A Guide to Fairies of the Butch Variety'' is an art book project celebrating butch folk and fairies, framed as a field guide! Well, a slightly satirical field guide - like the layman's guide to finding hot butches in your area... that are also fairies. We welcome all sorts of butch and queer fairy ideas and are excited to see how our artists and writers plan to explore the concept!
This project will feature 30 artists and 6 writers.
Creators will be split into 6 groups, by theme:
Garden Fairies
House Fairies
Dark Fairies
Courtly Fairies
City Fairies
Wyld Fairies
Further information on the themes can be found here.
FEY is a for-profit project and all proceeds after fees, shipping and production cost will go toward fairly and equally compensating our contributors. A minimum flat fee of 150AUD/102USD/92EUR will be paid out as a base amount.
We will not be considering any portfolios that include AI-generated writing or images.
Find the full guidelines doc here
Apps open on the January 12th , 10 am AEDT, (Jan 11, 6pm EST for the US). And will close on the 19th of January, or once we reach 500 applications.

Wow, so umm... This looks bad, not only is it inaccurate due to using the wrong ink demon design [unless this is confirmation BATIM Ink Demon has been outright retconned... Which would make me pissed enough to make a new post just about THAT] but from an art standpoint this is just... Confusing and poorly done.
I wouldn't care if this was fanart, of course you should support young, indie artists... But for a Graphic Novel making sure your cover doesn't look like something Butch Hartman shat out in an afternoon is kind of important. Remember they're going to be asking us to give money to them to read this. The artist likely won't see any of that money and neither do the authors most of the time, not to mention this art screams of the artist being underpaid and overworked.
Like they Had to get something on someone's desk and their boss said 'good enough'. A concept Joey Drew Studios is very familiar with considering the allegations of poor working environments that Kindly Beast. Not to mention Mike Mood admitting in a Reddit AMA that they did in fact rush projects like Showdown Bandit. [Which they sold at full price]
Tumblr media
He also says they can in fact say no or yes to designs involving their IP. Either Mike or Meatly had to say yes to this cover, according to his own damn words.
Tumblr media
And do you really think this company in particular would care enough about its fanbase to not sell them garbage? They have done exactly that on several occasions. It's not like they care particularly about art either, considering their previous use of AI Art. There was no apology or even posts addressing it... Instead, they just rushed out an archives update to their game to get people to stop talking about it... Even forgetting an entire character in it. Again
This company is [or at least SHOULD BE] on thin ice when it comes to being suspected of misleading their fans or rushing out crappy products to them.
So with all that context in mind, I'm gonna talk about why this cover sucks ass.
The light sources are all over the place? Why does it look like someone put maces or knight armor on his shoulders but it's just flesh?? It looks both gross and weird [not in a good way either]
To explain more I'm going on a rant below but sadly this seems to have been confirmed to not just be a rough pass but the final cover and man... I am not excited about this graphic novel just at all. This felt like it really drained any possibility of it turning out good for me and I already had expectations low.
Okay first point, the light sources?? And there is no consistency here with the shadows or lighting, it looks like there's a hundred light sources all at once but none of them are even consistent!
Tumblr media
the arrows here represent all the different light sources I can make out and yet the the shadow clearly implies there's only one. I understand wanting to use highlights to give the character a more clear shape but then just give him one or two lights behind him or in front of him? No matter how u follow the light sources, the highlights make no sense and the shadows make even less sense.
Tumblr media
Why are the shoulders like that? Like on the legs it's a little understandable, at least those are clearly very heavily affected by perspective, for me I think they are so exaggerated it makes it look like one of the legs is either huge or one is small but that's maybe subjective.
However, the shoulders are unjustifiable, what happened there, what did they do??
I could pick on so much more honestly, how the color choices of piss yellow with no other colors being used, and the harsh pitch black being used for every part of his body is weird. How it looks straight out of Butch Hartman's recent crappy art. But to put bluntly bad start! Also what the HELL is going on with this background??
Seems once again the Bendy team is fine with sending out stuff thinking it's "Good Enough" for Bendy fans and honestly the people trying to tell me to "Be Grateful" for this are just proving that no matter how many times you betray your audience some of em will defend you!
Which is sad tbh. If anything we should be putting MORE pressure on the Bendy team to do better. Cause we deserve better than this, honestly we do. There are amazing artists in the bendy community who could do so much better for a cover. They've employed their fan artists before... Wouldn't it be great to do that for such a lore important book? The book that gives us the identity of one of the main characters in BATIM? The character you spend the entirety of Chapter 4 fighting to save? Not to mention will give several major characters their human designs?
But I guess this is... Good enough...

I Am Mundus Artis (it/she)
The term is roughly translated to 'Art of the World'. I am a mixed media artist based out of the Pacific Northwest. I write World of Darkness stuff on Storytellers Vault, and occasionally publish short form science fiction on Medium. I paint with watercolors and make many of my own paints using found objects. I also engage in film photography and heavily favor urbex and Chiaroscuro portraiture. I enjoy taking the core elements of a subject and reorganizing them into representational surrealism, also known as biomorphism.
I am an unapologetic lover of nature and especially mushrooms, moss, and especially wolves.
I block most AI image creators and apologists on sight. If I accidentally reblog AI-generated content, please let me know.
I am a disabled, demisexual, transgender butch lesbian elder, and I have opinions. I generally don't consider this blog friendly to minors, and I tend to block on sight, though I mostly keep my lesbian shitposting here (NSFW). I stand with Palestine, but also do not condone antisemitism in any form. I believe Black Lives Matter, and support Landback efforts, along with the ideals of decolonization. Sex Work is Work. This blog holds space for marginalized voices from all walks.
In addition, I am a part of numerous fandoms, and you can expect to see liberal reblogs of Dark Crystal, Good Omens and Our Flag Means Death content.
I am an avid fan of the World of Darkness, especially Werewolf: the Apocalypse and am a Storyteller of over 25 years experience. You'll see frequent posting covering the topic of Werewolves in general on this blog. I'm an aggregator of Useful Shit for Storytellers and My Ask Box Is Open for those seeking world-building advice or ST tips.
In fact:
I believe Werewolf is an Inherently Queer Medium
I am also trying to hold the World of Darkness to higher standards of inclusivity
I'm the project director behind Werewolf: the Essentials, which aims to bring queer inclusivity to the horror tabletop. Book 1: Cliath comes out next Halloween, and you can follow the Official Blog here.

Community of Resistance: Losing and Rediscovering Queer Solidarity in Pittsburgh
This post is written by Sarah Trexler,  a recipient of an Archival Scholar Research Award for the 2024 Spring Semester.
My project offers a comparative analysis of Pittsburgh’s queer communities and social life in the 1970s, the 1990s, and the twenty-first century. Along with other communities around the country, queer individuals in Pittsburgh faced a variety of implicit and explicit discrimination, fed by the conservative turn towards a more hetero- and cis-normative culture after the Second World War. In response to direct systemic violence and social isolation, queer people began to create their own community spaces where they could turn for resources, support and mutual aid.
My interest in this topic began as I consumed queer media, specifically Sapphic media like Leslie Feinberg’s Stone Butch Blues and the 2022 reproduction of A League of Their Own. In these sources, I noticed the role of gay bars in the formation of identities, relationships, and communities. At a time when being queer in public could attract danger and violence, bars were safe havens of free love and expression. However, bar spaces were not always conducive to conversation and there were many, young, sober, or otherwise inhibited, queer people who had to seek other spaces. Outside of bars, there were more accessible and inclusive queer-created spaces such as bookstores, restaurants, and coffeeshops – some of which existed right in Pittsburgh.
My curiosity brought me to the University of Pittsburgh Library System's Archives & Special Collections, where I began my work with the Pittsburgh Gay News, a newspaper published during the 1970s. Flipping through the pages brought me to a new time and place. One in which the vibrancy and joy of queer community was documented by queer people for queer people.
Tumblr media
(Above) Excerpt from Gay News. Pittsburgh: Gay Alternatives Pittsburgh (Issue 25: 1974). Archives & Special Collections, University of Pittsburgh Library System.
Although my research began with queer periodicals from the 70s, I soon realized that my project was much larger than that. Newspapers did not tell the whole story of the spaces that I was studying – I was lucky if I got a few pictures. But when the addresses became familiar and recognizable, I wanted to know more. What were these spaces like? Who patronized them? And most importantly – where did they go?
In an attempt to situate my findings in a larger timeline, I broadened my horizons. In addition to queer periodicals, I also found event fliers and records from local businesses and organizations, like the Persad Center and Donny’s Place, useful to my research. I also began considering archival materials from the 1990s, hoping to find discussion of the big names in the Pittsburgh queer community of the 1970s. Unfortunately, this investigation only yielded more questions.
Tumblr media
(Above) Act Up! Pittsburgh Advertisement in 1993 Pittsburgh Pride program. “A Family of Pride: 1993 Pittsburgh Pride”, Archives of Industrial Society (AIS) Information Files, Pittsburgh Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Pride Celebration, Archives & Special Collections, University of Pittsburgh Library System.
I had been hoping to pick up the same names and patterns that I noticed in the sources from the 70s, but the queer community had undergone a dramatic shift as a result of the AIDS epidemic. The vibrancy and joy that I had noticed in earlier media was subdued – cluttered with statistics, infection rates, and mutual aid requests. There was still a strong element of community, but it had moved out of the bars and physical spaces of the earlier decades. Instead, it was found more in support groups, PSAs, and volunteer opportunities. I also found no mention of the earlier community spaces. Mentions of new bars and coffeehouses popped up, again with familiar addresses, but those proved to be dead ends as well. When I attempted to uncover the stories of these places, I found that those stories too were left unfinished. Queer spaces from the 1970s and 1990s were since turned into furniture stores, car dealerships, or simply left abandoned.
My questions continued to pile up and all I could find were unfinished stories. It was a disheartening and isolating experience – to not know my history and not even know where to look. I created working relationships across several archives, including Carnegie Mellon and the Heinz History Center, searching for the lost lives and stories of this earlier generation. I eventually came to realize that the absence of answers to my questions and solutions to my problems were answers and solutions in and of themselves.

Queer stories were never intentionally recorded. Understanding this scarcity gave me a new insight into the value of community and queer joy where you can find it. I came to treasure the photographs, letters, and even the obituaries that commemorated lives full of love. I became inspired. Instead of leaving my work in the past, I want to set a tone for the future. I have created a contemporary archive of sorts to record my community’s joy, love, and stories. It will be a place for people to honor and appreciate their friends and space.

For reference, can I have a full list of Callie's partners and what each of them look like? Do you have visual refs for some or all of them?
I don't have many visual refs and honestly I was rather terrible about taking good notes when writing Catnip, but here's what I've got: Selene: (they/them) Egyptian, nonbinary, doesn't particularly stick to femme or butch presentations but goes with whatever they feel like at any given time. Currently has short hair, dyed silver/white Alexis: (she/her) demigirl AI (I consider her trans, but you can also consider her cis, as much as either term could be applicable to an AI honestly), chosen appearance would be South Asian I think, as the closest match? Black hair with blue tones. This art of Alexis and Callie is actually pretty spot on. (She was heavily inspired by Amara the Siren from Borderlands 3)
Tumblr media
Those are the only characters that Callie is dating. The following are her metamours:
Celica the botanist (ey/em) Married to Rosa, isn’t dating anyone else. Agender. Greek
Rosa the archivist (she/her), married to Celica and dating Selene. Trans lesbian. Mexican. (I have a short description for her in the story, she has dark, curly hair and warm brown eyes. Probably has longer hair. I'm not always the best with physical descriptions)
(I didn't write out extensive backstories for these characters, preferring to keep things loose, but they all met while working on the projects to stop/alleviate Climatefall which was itself an international project)

A Girl Named Tex
Okay, so I finally got around to marathoning Red vs. Blue. Season 6 came out earlier this year. It's not normally the kind of thing I'd watch, but I heard that they were doing something more plot-heavy that had a lot of potential and I gave the first episode a shot. Also, my brother basically begged me and said that there's a dark, abusive soldier woman in it.
It's really funny stuff, honestly. Super clever, great comedy, gets super wacky by the end of the Blood Gulch Chronicles. Season 6 tones down the wackiness and especially has a ton of potential, and I can't wait to see where it goes. This AI stuff is genuinely interesting, the Meta seems like a cool villain, and Agent Washington is a serious breath of fresh air, you know?
I think I actually liked it. I really wanna see where the story of Project Freelancer and the Alpha AI goes.
But fuck Tucker. Seriously, fuck Tucker. Church is right to hate him.
I didn't know Halo had a story.
EDIT: What do you mean there's a Halo book???? I'm not reading a whole-ass book????
"Fall of Reach"?????
Sounds super fucking gay.
OOC: Red vs. Blue ended recently, and I finally got around to seeing the final season. There was stuff in it that I thought could have been done better, and stuff that I thought were pitch-perfect ways to end the series.
Red vs. Blue is probably the biggest single inspiration for my writing. From my fanfic to my serials to my novels, I've learned so much about writing both comedy and drama from that show, and it's given me so much inspiration. As a kid, characters like Agent Texas and Agent Carolina gave me words to describe the kind of butch femininity and personal strength that I often wanted to emulate.
RVB has had a long history, from the hilarious Blood Gulch seasons to the near-perfect Seasons 6-10 and onward to the creative Chorus seasons.
I would not be a writer without RVB. I wouldn't have my novel manuscripts I've written, or my serials, or even a lot of my fanfic.
It's probably worth saying that Rooster Teeth, the company that made the show, had a long and at times unethical history. I have a lot of respect for people like Burnie Burns or Miles Luna as artists, but I try not to think about what they oversaw at times.
Still, show's over, everyone can go home. It's insane to think about, especially since for a while RVB seemed like an infinite institution: as long as it made money, they were going to keep making it.
Well, now there's no money, and they stopped.
It feels like the end of an era for me. I wouldn't be the person I am without this show.
So, here's a tribute, I guess. Now back to your Class of '09 regularly scheduled programming.

Do you have titles for other characters or is it only babygirl for Kazuha?
Kaeya - my one and only, main genshin blorbo. Hits all of my preferences. he has mistplitter while Ayaka is on blackliff, I got 5 his cons from standard without whaling while Lisa and Amber are both C1, bc what we have is special
Ningguang – my self-projection, I think she's hot, sure, but I mostly sympathize with her. Ofc, I’m not rich, but I also started from selling fast food to managing position. And she’s misunderstood as being too cold and menacing when she’s actually well-meaning. She also loves thinking up systems, is a tabletop nerd and regularly tells ppl to submit.
Kazuha - babygirl. the cutest, an absolute sunshine, deserves the world. my only limited 5 star with C2. i'm thinking of getting him freedom sworn, but tbh it highkey clashes with him and he's a weapon of mass destruction on 4 star swords rn, so idk
Beidou - gurrrrrrrrl women want her aquatic monsters fear her, who doesn't think Beidou is hot
Itto - babyboy. Sweet baby angel. should be the next geo archon.
Candace - wife material
Ayato - spoiled brat (affectionate)
Dehya - I'm getting this buff butch catgirl on release even if she's bad lmao
Thoma - best malewife, despite being fucked over by hoyo and underappreciated by fandom
Xiao - poorest littlest mew mew and the angry bird
Signora - Queen. Deserved better. They couldn't redeem her, because she was right, so they had to kill her. At least she went out proud and unbroken, untouched by woobification
Heizou - kitten. eager, hyperactive, needy and affectionate, playful and mischievous, can be a little awkward and exhausting sometimes, but he's too cute to actually get mad at him
Zhongli - I only think Zhongli is hot as a young himbo dragon lmao
Jean has like v interesting blend of dualities that isn’t loud or immediately obvious, she is the lady AND the knight, she is perfectly poised AND a little socially awkward, she’s elegant and fresh like a breeze AND perpetually tired, and so on. i like kind characters who might be quiet, but complex in unexpected ways
Albedo - little prince
Dainsleif - angsty, stoic and repressed are usually not my type, but he's very hot in "doomed by the narrative from the start" way. And also all Khaenri'ah men just have certain je ne sais quoi about them, that country only made hot ppl.
Enjou - unhinged librarian. masochist and is into dark arts, what's not to love. His and Lumine's rivalry is doing it for me in a way Childe can't
honorary mentions for people I'm not attracted to, but very fond of:
Yanfei - best girl
Hu Tao - girlboss gatekeep gaslight, best troll
Nahida - my sweet rogue AI child. deserves to go apeshit and possess ppl a lil bit. as a treat.

um so he makes a lto of projects. agent unrealitty.
lesbian space pirate dating simualtor has been stated by GLITCH AI or in general adam snowfalke the maker of teh arg, to be a "test" of love with chosen romantic options for the cult. what cult? i dont fucking know. he gives the genres differnt names but says in asia rage quit and irony are genres of gaming and stories, and that lesbian space pirate dating simulator was meant to be one such thing.
the options according to my interview with arg staff are:
baren johnson a bisexual he him lesbian
yanderekun a butch lipstick lesbian as two spirit
ahack widow an agender or he him lesbian and or two spirit
mindy starcast the lesbian half romani half black transowmen captain
fonty a dyke
gabby: a latina who breaks the fourth wall
robin wong: a french women who moves very quickly but is voiced with a lesbain accent
enby way; a genderfluid lipstick goth
the premise is that you and your old crew went about sabotoging your new crew right after dyingg your hair and you wake up with amensia held against your will int his pg dating with cussing and no sex but an aseuxal writer, where you are held prisoner on ktichen duty, to assit the crew because pirates have honour and "we dont kill" mindy starcast was voiced by a transraical lebsian naemd kathy anderson who died in a car accident. text was native and voiced achack widow.
the crew are alien space pirates, and you teh surgate player have a unique design and outlook. in adams arg insanity its implied to be the myth of BO BOE or UMPTA. which is antive american gods of harem. basically its an etchi without the porn, its a playbale picture book draw in a toony style, where you can romance lesbians at different speeds based on arhetypes in teh suffereagte movement based off a real native ritual to find a soul mate.
many peoplea re under the impression that it is a short game cus it is coded intentionally like doki doki litereture club to have hidden content and ednings and is hard to dig through the code of but can last hours. it is meant to be a puzzle and rage quit that rewards you with a girlfriend that in achacks tribe would give you a daydream or real life one. it is like that frosty yokai that seduces neets in japan, exept each girl has something wrong with them that adds a challegne to the romance.
enbys routes all end as dark horrror. she is a vampire.
you can kill the blind native chef if you touch her beceause of your diesases.
baren is homophobic as a method of flirting with you.
mindy is a drunk.
robin moves to fast and you can bully her.
so on and so forht. eric dubetey is native american and vocies baren johnson.

Rank It All! Or Did I Just Create a Monster?
If there’s one thing we like to do around here, it’s rank things. From our End of the Year lists to the countless albums/sports/food rankings in the forums, it’s just a tradition at this point. When the conversation dies down, break out a ranking. The other night, I was lying in bed thinking about the “bias sorter” going around Tumblr in 2018. It originated, I believe, as a way for people to rank their favorite K-pop bands. I’d been using it for the past few years to start my end of the year album rankings. It’s an excellent way to review a list and decide what you like more: A or B. But the problem is that it’s a pain to use. You need to enter each item individually, click enter, after each one, and then go through the ranking process. And after you’re done, there’s no good way to do it again without manually re-entering all those items. I started wondering if I could put something together that would let me input any size list of things I wanted, and then it could present them to me one at a time to pick from and give me a final ranking. I tossed together a proof of concept using a modified version of the original1 Tumblr code, and I pretty quickly had something that worked. I took my first draft and tossed it together with the basic Chorus bootstrap stylesheet. Then, because I wanted to see if it would work and didn’t have much time to dedicate to this project, I threw all the code at Chat-GPT and told it what I wanted to change and how I wanted it to work. After about an hour of fixing up the AI code, I had a viable prototype that did 95% of what I wanted it to do. It starts with a big text box; you put in your list of items you want to rank, you click rank, you rank, and then you get the results. I then wanted two other features. After you rank, I wanted a quick button to copy the ranking to your clipboard so you can share it. And then I wanted a share button that would share the list of items you just ranked so someone else could rank the same list as you. This took a little bit of extra work, but it makes this whole thing much more fun. Because now not only can you rank anything, but you can quickly rank: * Blink-182 albums * Yellowcard albums * Fall Out Boy albums * Taylor Swift albums * Butch Walker albums * Andrew McMahon albums * Jimmy Eat World albums * Thrice albums * Motion City Soundtrack albums * Bruce Springsteen albums * Green Day albums And that’s just a tiny sampling of what the community has created in the past few hours. What I like about this feature is how easy it is to spin up and share a new list. And then how fast you can go through even a relatively large number of items. (Pro-Tip: On a desktop computer, you can use the left and right arrow keys to make your choices faster without clicking the buttons.) The page is designed, like Chorus, to load as quickly as possible and be lightweight. And none of the information entered into the box is saved to any database. This is the first version, and I still have some bug fixes and other tweaks to make, but I wanted to share it with everyone to get more people using it and see if any issues pop up. Please let me know if you see or encounter any bugs in the comments. Happy ranking!2 The Main Screen Putting in Your List Making Your Picks The Results --- * Best I can find, I believe this is the original author.↩ * Funny aside: While I made this to help make ranking my end-of-the-year lists easier when I have a bunch of items to sort, after showing it to Hannah, she came up with another use: us deciding what we want to watch next. Toss in a list of options, we both rank what sounds best and compare. I bet it would help with dinner choices, too.↩ --- Please consider becoming a member so we can keep bringing you stories like this one. ◎ https://chorus.fm/features/articles/rank-it-all-or-did-i-just-create-a-monster/
