So, I take you know who Yusuf Dikeç is. The t-shirt wearing guy who won silver medal in pistol shooting competition at the 2024 Olympic Games while looking as casual as possible.
He holds the world record for solo pistol shooting since 2006: 597 points out of possible 600. He won ten gold medals in his career, all but one in solo competitions. Just check his Wikipedia page.
Autodynamics Hustler, 1967. Autodynamics was formed by Ray Caldwell in the early 1960’s as a racing car maker. They also diversified into making replacement fibreglass body panels for the Lotus Elan. At the New York Auto Show they revealed the Hustler, an Elan replica (it was larger than the diminutive Lotus) based on a VW chassis and rear engine. The business was doing well with Formula Vee and the VW-based ‘Deserter’ dune-buggy so the Hustler was really a side-project and less than 50 were made before production ended in 1968.
So we already have a meme about veteran Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç, and the Korean "main character" competitor Kim Ye-ji (left). Yet, somehow, we missed the new contender and the winner of women's 10 m air pistol competition (along with No Fucks Given competition), Kim's compatriot Oh Ye-jin (right).
19-year-old Oh Ye-jin debuted last year, winning three gold medals: one in solo competition at the Asian Championship in Changwon, and two - one in solo, one in team - at the World Championship in Jakarta. And now she continues the streak, not only winning gold, but also setting an Olympic record.
So, you have a fujoshi-looking newbie with a pink pistol (with a heart-tipped barrel plug!) roll in wearing a t-shirt, shorts and the plainest black BCGs, and beat the supposed "main character". Ain't that a plot twist, right?
