I know not all of these originated in Britain (e.g. Aldi and Lidl are German) but we have them here and people use them.

If you shopped at multiple places, try and pick the one you got the most stuff from. Also I grew up in the 2000s, so older shops that shut down before then won't be on here, sorry. Feel free to bring them up in the tags and replies!

Aldi is actually two companies founded by brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht, they split over the question of whether or not to sell tobacco and thus Aldi Nord (north) and Süd (south) were born.

It's a common german meme that the line where the Aldis split (Aldi Equator) are the new inner-german cultural border and that Aldi Nord has vastly inferior quality of product. I live in the southwest which is hilly, so i was making fun of northern germany for their inferior supermarkets AND boring flat geography in those tags :3

I found a chocolate ‘Hanukkah Calendar’ in with the chocolate Advent calendars at Aldi’s. This year, (2022) Hanukkah and Christmas both happen in the same week. I didn't check to see if the candy is Kosher.

oooh ok, lemme put on my thinking cap. Going from least good to best, here is my official UK supermarket tier list. International shops like Aldi and Lidl included because I have only been in very specific areas of the uk

10. Waitrose - Tory hotspot.

9. Marks and Spencer’s - you can get a bra and food but all the clothes are ugly and everything is expensive. Bonus points for Percy Pigs and those cookies.

8. Iceland - I’ve never really been in here, but I’m sure it’s fine. Sells smartwater, however you feel about that.

7. Sainsburys - Honestly I don’t really remember sainsburys apart from the fact that I got a really lovely purple coat with flowers on the quilting when I was very small (like primary one age).

6. Lidl - I attest that this is the worse of the two.

5. Aldi - aldi bakery 💞💞 also the middle aisle 💖💖

4. Tesco - brilliant stuff altogether, just not my favourite.

3. Morrisons - the deli counter tub pasta still has my heart even if the last time I had it I was small enough to fit in the wee seat in the front of a trolley 💔

2. The Co-op - the excitement of getting Moshi monster cards in the co op was unrivaled.

ASDA - my love my love I could go on. From shitty jokes to initials to range and MILK SLICES it’s the best supermarket in the UK by far.

this is less a tier list and more of a ranking but the point stands.
