Stormfront
Werewolf!Bob/Reader

Summary: Your life takes a strange turn as two strangers save you from a wolf on the hunt. It only gets even more strange from there as they insist on sharing more, and you find yourself starting to believe in the supernatural.
Word count: 3.1k
Warnings: none :) no pronouns used for reader, i just liked the quote for the collage above. Read as much into that as you wish. :)
A/n: hiiiii :) this is a supernatural au inspired by @/swarm-of-bees67 when i saw discussion of Werewolf!Bob in the fan-made Thunderbolrs* discord server! I havent read anything of theirs, just read the idea and ran with it. Im limiting myself to werewolves, vampires, and witches, plus hunters ofc. Ive got so many ideas for the lore :3 i love a good au where i can do worldbuilding! This will be a series. Ok. I shut up now.
Next part
~~*~~
You didnt grow up believing in the supernatural.
But for the past few months, if you hadnt at least considerd changing your mind, you'd be foolish.
It started just a little less-than-normal- on nights when the moon was full, rain or shine, something weird would happen.
You didnt think wolves were natural to your area, so for a while you figured it was a coyote or maybe a loose dog.
But tonight you saw it better, in the moonlight.
The closest thing to the massive animal you saw was... a wolf.
You just didnt expect it to actually approach you.
At a full run.
With its teeth bared.
Shit.
You weren't about to drop your groceries- not in this economy!- so you just ran back the way you came, cursing the re-usable bags under your breath. Running past long-closed for the day storefronts, with the streetlights strangely flickering. Flags fluttered in a breeze as you ran, completely unconcerned with your heart's racing pace.
You passed a couple alleys, but maybe going down one would be a good idea... well, maybe in your dreams.
Of course it wasn't the alley you were familiar with. It was a dead end. You hadnt realized you'd ran so far.
"Man..." you sighed, hearing the steps of the wolf behind you. You tightened your grip on your reusable grocery bags.
Before you could turn around to face it, maybe swinging your grocery bags (they were heavy enough to do damage) as you went down, you heard a dog whimper.
Two people were standing over the wolf, who was now collapsed on its side. Three small darts were poking out of its shoulder and back.
They glanced at you, then the wolf.
The young woman looked up at the man and spoke to him. You couldnt distinguish the words- maybe they were speaking a different language?
"Um- can- can I go? And tha- thank you, by the way."
"Oh, 'by the way'," the young woman rolled her eyes as she mocked you. She definitely had an accent. "No, you can't just go." She crossed her arms over her tactical jacket. It had a lot of pockets, you could see them in the streetlight's glow.
"Wh- what do you mean?" You asked.
"He was following you."
"I... yeah, i know that."
"What do you think was going to happen?" She turned to you now, hands moving to her hips. "That he was going to let you pet his head? That he'd lick your hand and then leave you alone?"
"... no." You admitted. Even actual dogs were usually less behaved than that.
"Do you want to be followed again by a massive wolf like this? Maybe dont catch on, and you're in real danger. Hmm?"
"Lena..." the man spoke. He wore a red jacket, something like a bomber jacket. It had white stripes and a white star on the shoulder. He turned to you and smiled, hands forward as if to gesture he wasn't going to be so rude. "Look. You'd better come with us."
"Alex-!"
"Its true, its safer. Might as well know."
The younger woman, Lena, dropped her shoulders. She looked down at the wolf and nudged it with her boot.
"Well at least we'll have help to get him in the truck."
"Sorry, wait," you spoke up, stepping forward. "I cant go anywhere with you people tonight. I have frozen groceries in these bags."
~*~
"So, um..." you started, finally having gotten your groceries put away. You leaned against the counter after you washed your hands, holding the towel because you forgot to hang it back up. "What's the wolf's deal?"
You hadn't had guests even intentionally in a long time. So now with these two intimidating people sitting at your kitchen table, having watched them strap down the wolf in the bed of their truck, now sipping tea as politely as possible... was weird, to say the least.
They also seemed to have a habit of staring at you, and looking away when you caught their gaze.
The man laughed. "The wolf's deal, ha!"
"Alex..." Lena groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. Her short blond hair blocked her face from your view.
"He's a werewolf, obviously," Alex said, as if you should have guessed.
You'd heard people tell stories about weird encounters with people and animals. You'd never heard about a transformation, or seen a video, let alone with your own eyes, so you'd always write off the stories as just that- stories and unlucky people.
You chuckled. "Sure, of course."
"See?" Alex pointed at you. "Who gives tea who doesnt understand?"
"Alex, thats a folk tale."
"And werewolves arent?"
Lena groaned again, and got up from the table. "They're real," she said. "Werewolves."
You scoffed with a smirk. "And vampires and witches, oh my!" You said to the tune of "lions, tigers, and bears, oh my!" from the Wizard of Oz.
Alex laughed again. "Catches on very quickly, this one!"
"Wait, what?" You asked, stunned, frowning. You laughed, then, wringing the towel again before turning to hang it up. "What do you mean?" Did they get you with a tranquilizer dart too, and this was just a weird dream?
"Werewolves, vampires, witches... they are all real." Lena explained. "Fewer, these days, but all real, very dangerous. For regular people, and for hunters."
"Um... by hunters...?"
"We are hunters!" Alex said, smiling and opening his arms wide as if to gesture to himself. "Not the kind that kill, though."
"So... what kind?"
Lena shrugged, sheepishly glancing at the older man. "We're... more like..." she directed a phrase at him in a different language. He shrugged and responded with something else, similar to what she said. Then Lena turned to look at you again. "Like guardians."
"If theyre so dangerous, why do they need guardians?"
"Because they're dumb as shit, thats why," Lena said bluntly. "And we're sometimes mediators. Its a big world, the one you dont know about."
Alex said something in the other langauge, leaning forward to reach Lena's arm.
She spat back a sentence at him, and then he stood and it was a full-on argument.
You heard a clatter outside. It sounded like maybe a small animal messing with your trash bin.
The wind blew and the howling made the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
"Ugh!" The argument ended with Lena exclaiming her frustration. "FINE. You. Youre coming with us." She pointed at you. "Pack an overnight bag."
"And... if i dont?"
"Suit yourself, we're bringing you anyway."
"Ok! Ok, give me a few minutes."
Lena lifted her hands as if surrendering, and left the kitchen. You heard your front door's storm door clatter shut.
"She's... very protective," Alex offered as an apology.
You shrugged.
As you packed a duffle bag- something about this whole situation felt like maybe it would be wise to pack more than for one day and night- you considered your evening. The past few months, even. Maybe it was the getting out of your lame date later than you'd hoped, maybe it was the weather growing strange. You just wanted to figure *something* out, make *something* clearer to yourself.
The wolf, or rather werewolf, had been following you for months. Sometimes you felt like there was a presence around you even if you couldnt spot the wolf, even if it wasnt a full moon.
You had hoped it had been a good luck charm, having moved into the area recently for a new job.
At least tomorrow was Saturday, you thought as your sighed and zipped up the bag.
You stuffed in anything you figured you might need, and at the last second before leaving your bedroom, you grabbed the small box that contained things from your grandmother, the woman who raised you. It felt wrong to leave something so personally valuable behind. Who knows what this weekend and these strangers would bring into your life?
Alex put your duffle bag next to the wolf, who was still strapped down on the bed of the truck, and you climbed up into the cab of the truck to sit between Lena and Alex.
Lena looked at the backpack on your lap with offense. "I didn't invite you to move in with us."
"I hate being unprepared," you shrugged. "And i have a feeling."
Lena sighed and propped her elbow up on the windowsill of the door as Alex turned the key in the ingnition.
"Whatever," she said as the truck rolled out of your driveway.
It was a tight seat, sitting between the big man and his partner, but it was comfortable enough. You yawned as Alex drove out of the small city-edge suburb town, and onto the roads with few and far-between streetlights.
Part of you knew that it was incredibly stupid to be in this predicament. Trusting complete strangers who happened to get a wolf unconscious, believing that the supernatural was real, and then going with them... to a destination you had no address of? Without telling anyone?
Pretty dumb.
But it felt right. There was a peace about sitting between the two seemingly-experienced individuals, even though a massive wolf- "were" or not- was behind you. You had more peace about leaving behind the place you'd so carefully planned and accepted than you had when you'd chosen that path.
It felt right.
When had your feelings ever let you down?
~*~
Alex drove the truck for about 45 minutes before he grunted as if to clear his throat and you noticed he'd kept glancing over at Lena.
Finally, she noticed too.
"What?"
"Lena... did... you not fill up on gas before we-"
"I was *not* the last person to drive the truck," she lifted a finger as if to make a point. Then she groaned and curled her hand into a fist. "I am going to kill him."
"Its ok, maybe he left money in the box?"
Lena leaned forward after a moment and opened the glovebox.
Inside was a single crumpled dollar bill.
"I am *going* to *kill* him," she repeated, with barely restrained disgust.
Alex laughed nervously. "Its fine! We'll just stop at the next gas station."
Oh.
This would not be the best place to stall, you thought, as you looked out the windows. The road was curving through a forested area with no street lights, or even power lines, and you couldnt remember the last time you saw another vehicle on the road.
"Um..." you glanced at the dial on the dashboard that showed how much gas was in the tank. Ironically, it seemed to flicker just above E, for Empty. "Are we gonna make it...?"
"Dont doubt this truck," Lena hissed, glaring at you as if you'd just prayed for a deer to run across the road with no time to avoid hitting it. "We're gonna make it."
Alex did a quick cross over his body and shook his head, muttering something under his breath.
Now that you considered it, it would make sense for these hunter people to be superstitious. Of what, or what they believed in, you werent sure yet. But you knew enough about not jynxing the printer right before a co-worker tried to print a review that you offered a quiet apology and a quick pat on the leather dashboard of the truck for reassurance to the vehicle. Better something than nothing.
Shockingly- although you wouldnt have said anything aloud- after a few more minutes, there was in fact a small gas station with lights on in the middle of this forest. Another strange strike of luck. Or maybe your companions knew more about the road than you had, and had known about the station.
Lena relaxed as the truck pulled in front of one of the pumps, and finally sputtered to a stop. She glanced at you. "Better go to the bathroom and grab something to eat."
You didn't hesitate to follow her out of the cab of the truck, after grabbing your wallet.
Alex got out the other side and started the transaction at the pump.
The gas station was incredibly eerie.
Or maybe it was the stillness. There wasn't anyone sitting at the cashier's counter, and the only sound came from the refrigerator section and a fan hung from a corner in the ceiling with pink ribbons blowing from the fan guard.
The linoleum floor squeaked under your shoes as you wandered the aisles, looking for any snack that looked half-decent.
Instead of your expectations, the products seemed just slightly off-brand, and the prices were no more than a dollar for any of the items.
You decided not to question it, considering the truck situation.
Before picking up any of the items, you went to the bathroom and were shocked, again, to find them impeccably clean. In fact, even though it wasnt exactly a *nice* bathroom, you couldnt find a single moldy ceiling tile or crack in the floor. You'd seen nice bathrooms that were neglected by staff, so you chose, again, not to question it.
After leaving the bathroom, you heard Lena speaking to someone. You grabbed the items you'd decided were a safe bet to snack on and wandered over to the counter, where you saw her speaking with the station employee.
They grinned at you, a few of their teeth gold- and maybe some sort of gemstone?
"Hi, honey!" They said. They had long, wild hair and wore a t-shirt under their apron. The apron was the only dirty thing you'd seen in the store. "Welcome to Iris's Gas Station. I'm Iris," they held out a hand, covered in tattooes. There were runes on each of their knuckles.
"Dont be rude," Lena slapped the employee's hand after rolling her eyes. "You know better."
Iris laughed and cradled the slapped hand, as if Lena had done any harm. "You never let me have any fun."
Lena glanced at you and the items you put on the counter. She nodded approvingly.
"Lovely selection, honey," Iris cooed, ringing up your items. You half expected to be told the prices were actually ten times the sticker price and that the labels had just not been changed in years, but you ended up only being charged the exact amount of each item. You again kept to yourself the lack of taxes and surprise about the amazing prices.
Alex bounded into the store, breaking the moment. He grinned at Iris when he saw them. "Iris!" He almost seemed surprised to see the employee.
"Did you not read the sign, Alexei?" Iris smiled. Were they blushing?
"Cant I be excited when i see my favorite witch?" He laughed, and bumped between you and Lena to reach for Iris's hand to kiss the back of their hand.
You werent sure if Alex calling Iris a witch was a friendly insult or just the truth. But then again, if they *were* a witch, a lot would fall into place and make sense. At least, so far about what you knew of the world you had been pulled into.
"Oh, you flatterer," the employee was definitely blushing now.
Alex looked like he might be, too.
"Alex."
"Right, sorry," the man said, letting go of Iris's hand and breaking the eye contact he'd had with them. "We're hoping to get home before Bob wakes up."
"Sure," Iris said slowly, coyly looking over Alex.
"Alex!" Lena repeated. "We cant *do* that if you keep flirting!"
Alex sighed, knocked on the counter, and left, headed toward the bathroom.
"You," Lena looked at you. "Lets go back outside. Thank you, Iris."
"Thank you, Iris," you parroted at the employee, who simply smiled at you. Mischief curled their lips, and it almost frightened you.
You followed Lena back out of the store and got in to the truck as Lena held the door for you.
You opened one of the snacks you'd grabbed- you wouldn't pass up beef jerky at 50 cents a bag.
As soon as you opened it, you heard a moan, then a groan, and an exhale like someone was stretching.
Lena groaned.
"Hey, is that beef jerky?" You heard from behind you.
You looked back and saw a man sitting on the back seat bench, eyes half open, hair incredibly messy.
Lena just sighed.
"Lena... there wasnt a back seat before," you said slowly, trying to keep up with the revelations of the night.
"That is correct."
"And there wasnt... a... guy... sitting there before," you pointed out.
"Also correct."
You glanced at the station in front of you, then back to her. "Is this... part of the gas station?"
"Why would it-" Lena scoffed. "No, that's Bob."
The man smiled. He looked goofy. The loose navy blue sweatshirt was well worn, like it was a comfort item. "Hi," he said, and waved.
"Who is Bob?" You whispered to Lena, still looking at the guy.
"The wolf?" Lena looked at you like you were stupid, her hand out, the gesture reinforcing her tone and look. "Obviously??"
It dawned on you. The wolf, of course, was really a *were*wolf, which had already been established. But you hadn't seen the man part of the werewolf yet. Lots to keep up with.
"Sorry, i havent met a werewolf before." You werent sure if you were apologizing to Lena or to the man named Bob.
"Thats ok. Can i have some of that?" He pointed to the bag of beef jerky in your hands.
"Oh, um. Sure?"
Lena snorted.
You handed him the bag and he carefully fished out the silica packet before stuffing his mouth with the jerky.
At least was only 50 cents. You'd been looking forward to that. At least making it last the rest of the road trip, or maybe a few hours.
Nope. He just finished it all.
Maybe it had something to do with the transformation and needing to eat a lot? Either that, or he was clueless about sharing and was inconsiderate.
"Thanks," he said, smiling, still chewing as he handed you back the empty bag only a moment later.
Lena reached across you to honk on the horn of the steering wheel. "Go back to sleep, Bob."
Bob didnt seem to want to look away from you. He was a smiley guy. He settled in against the corner of the back seat and stretched his arms a little, before adjusting his shoulders against the hard metal of the cab.
The feeling was familiar. Of him watching you. Even his presence, although startling, wasn't very threatening. Although as a wolf he'd frightened you nearly half to death with the threat of, well, death, you didnt feel concerned about him sitting right behind you as he closed his eyes and looked... incredibly human.
You werent sure how you felt about all that. As you opened the bag of pretzels you had bought in addition to the jerky, you considered your night.
You were glad you packed for more than one night, and you had a feeling you'd be grateful more than once these next few days.

YES the Thunderbolts have a fantastic team as family dynamic, yes they are living in Avengers tower, yes history is repeating itself and 2012 tower fics are so back. BUT!
instead of "Alexei eating poptarts" or "Yelena in the vents", we must come up with new headcanons and make history
Bob always does normal domestic chores, often getting in the way of important missions and spy business. "All I'm saying is Bucky is our best sniper" "It would be a much quieter assassination if I just slipped into the condo and cut his—" "Hey sorry guys, anyone have laundry? I'm doing a load"
Yelena and her guinea pig always eat meals together at the dining table. Everyone has their Chinese food or barbeque, meanwhile the rodent is loudly munching on a salad right beside them
Bucky is the mom and always keeps them on track. "Ava you have a dentist appointment in the morning, and bring Bob so they can add him to the insurance. Lena how was therapy? Alexei, I said no vodka until dinner"
Alexei is always coming up with new promotional ideas for the team. Cartoon tv show, cereal, toothpaste flavour...every day he thinks he's come up with the next big thing. Whenever they actually get put into production (Wheaties) he collects and saves it, and won't let anyone use a different product. (He threw out Yelena's frosted flakes and it took both Bucky and John to get her to stop attacking him)
Ava likes to phase and sneak attack her teammates at random. She claims it's for training but really she just thinks it's funny hearing them scream
John gets blamed for everything, even if it isn't his fault. Especially if it isn't his fault: "who ate the last bagel?" "John." "Where's my hair straightener?" "John had it." "Whose turn is it to unload the dishwasher?" "Johnnnn"

GUYS I FIGURED IT OUT
Clint in the vents and that’s his whole personality because he wasn’t fleshed out in the movies → Ava in the walls and that’s her whole personality because she wasn’t fleshed out in the movies
Thor eating poptarts and overusing proper words because English isn’t his first language and he’s the comedic relief → Alexei eating Wheaties and overusing proper words because English isn’t his first language and he’s the comedic relief
Natasha pranking and laughing at everyone from the sidelines because fanon decided she’s just silly like that → Yelena pranking and laughing at everyone from the sidelines because canon decided she’s just silly like that
Bruce being a sweet, soft-spoken, unassuming guy but also the most fucking unhinged monstrosity if you catch him on a bad day → Bob being a sweet, soft-spoken, unassuming guy but also the most fucking unhinged monstrosity if you catch him on a sad day
Steve being handed the de facto title of goody two shoes leader despite being the LAST person on board with this → Bucky being handed the de facto title of goody two shoes leader despite being the last person on board with this
Tony being a big-mouthed asshole that’s secretly haunted by his past mistakes which involved publicly supporting the US military via PR stunts as a weapons manufacturer → John being a big-mouthed asshole that’s secretly haunted by his past mistakes which involved publicly supporting the US military via PR stunts as a weapon himself

no because it’s really really important to me that in a world where we’re so used to the heroes punching and shooting their way to victory, thunderbolts* went out of its way to show us that the void is still very much a part of bob, and bob is their friend, so they’re going to accept every facet of who he is and give him a soft place to land, even if that means they’ll have to be the ones to pull him back from the darkness every single time. because that’s what friends family will do for each other, no questions asked.
