I realized i hadn't posted all of the cards i completed last year, especially some of my favorites like the Rods and Mokole Mbembe, and since i didn't like the format i was posting them in anyway I figured i'd make a masterpost here. Sorry for the length! I'm not selling these at present since a 17 card deck is such an awkward length, but maybe i could add to it in the future? I love rods/skyfish so much man they're so dumb.

The British Big Cat phenomenon is so funny, like
Yeah, I don't think there's a native population of big cats in England. Even a breeding population of released or escaped ones, while possible, would need some proving. But there provably were a couple of the things running around for a while, most recently thanks to exotic pets being released after they changed the laws back in the 70's.
And yeah, maybe they're all gone now, I wouldn't be surprised if modern sightings are just the folklore taking on a life of its own. But there are people who genuinely argue that none of them ever existed, coming up wirth elaborate theories about how they were all misidentified house cats or a variant on the Black Dog myth or whatever.
Except,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like there genuinely were a few
Yeah most of them were exaggerated by folk tales and the media and frankly there's a lot of difference between a jungle cat in the distance and a goddamn puma, but come on now
all you have to say is "there was a public craze based on a few real sightings of released animals which was fuelled by media attention and mistaken identity", you don't need to tie it to mass hallucinations or cultural memories of the fucking Cath Palug

On This Day in Cryptid History
November 13th: A brief sighting of an Alien Big Cat was reported in the book “Cat Country, the Quest for the British Big Cat”, published in 1983. It occurred in 1979 in the outskirts of Dingwall, Rossshire, and was described as a fawn-colored lioness. Not else is known about the sighting.

ROUND ONE MATCHUP SEVEN: THE REAL ONES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These cryptids turned out to be real! Or almost real. Or pretty much real. Whatever.
The really-real one is the QUESTING BEAST. The Questing Beast was said to have the head of a snake, the coat of a jaguar, and the feet of a hart (deer). There are a couple of possible real critters here -- the giraffe and the okapi. But either way! Both of those animals are really real, and so the Questing Beast is in the rare space of a cryptid proven true.
The kinda-real one are the ALIEN BIG CATS. Essentially, these are just big cats (panthers, etc.) that are In The Wrong Place, For Some Reason. They've been spotted in locales like Scotland and France, where they just Should Not Be. Are they released pets? Are they strange wanderers? Maybe. What they are not is actual space aliens. Sorry. They count under this theme because they are real animals, even if not necessarily proven to exist in the place they're said to be (although see the Beast of Gévaudan for one that surely was where they said it was).

My theory about a lot of big cat sightings in Britain is that feral domestic cats are evolving to fit the niches left by missing predators, add to that the fact that some breeders are adding exotic species to the mix. I have the occasional 'conversation' with this panther wanabee who visits my garden and is as big as a medium sized dog.

Day 26: Blue Mountains Panther
(Here's a real prompt entry. I decided to go back to the goetic demons since I'd felt the itch to use them again, especially with that remark about alien big cats with Flauros. As for who's who: Barbas is Thibetanus, Camio is AshestoAshes, and Bellicose is Glasya-Labolas.)
Thibetanus> Ose’s having a fit again. AshestoAshes> So? Let him wear himself out like usual. Thibetanus> He escaped into the mortal realm again. Bellicose> Really? Damn, hope he’s eating good. Tell him to come back with a human body this time. AshestoAshes> Any idea where he went? I can hop up to Britain to keep an eye on him. Thibetanus> No need, I already asked Agares to send Looker out. I should hear back from him soon. AshestoAshes> Good thinking. I don’t really want to bother searching all of the United Kingdom for one cat. Especially not after I finally got my new nest set up. Bellicose> Sweet, mind if I use it as a barbeque? I’ve been craving some grilled arms recently. AshestoAshes> Of course not. You always grab humans when they’re way too fresh. The blood will just extinguish the fire. Instead, I’ll just send some of my collection over to you. You’re the expert on grilling here anyways, what if I were to mess up your recipe? Bellicose> Good point. Forgot you’re the one that’s good at arguments. AshestoAshes> My reputation precedes me. Thibetanus> He’s not in Britain. AshestoAshes> Really? He always goes to Britain. That’s where the ABC sightings go. Thibetanus> Somewhere in that muddled brain of his apparently decided to switch things up a little. He’s in Australia. Sydney to be exact. AshestoAshes> SYDNEY? Great, he’s going to cause a wave of big cat sightings there soon enough. Thibetanus> Good news, he hasn’t done too much damage. Just some animal mutilations. Bellicose> Aw come on! Thibetanus> Looker seems to be keeping a good eye on him. Agares says Looker will pick him up once the fit is over. AshestoAshes> What even prompted it this time? Thibetanus> Apparently he thought it was a good idea to curse an entire office meeting with his spells. AshestoAshes> Don’t tell me. Thibetanus> Yep. Now they’re all on power trips. AshestoAshes> Will he ever learn? Thibetanus> I think he refuses to. Bellicose> What he should do is bring back some good human meat sometime! Thibetanus> Why not go get it yourself if you’re that desperate? Bellicose> Good idea! I’ll check the torture chambers. (Bellicose has logged out) AshestoAshes> Why did he even sign on to this chat? Thibetanus> Who knows. I’ll call Titivillus to let him and his team know to keep an eye out around Sydney for any signs of the creation of a cryptid. AshestoAshes> At least someone here knows responsibility. Thibetanus> I try to be.

I’ve always been reluctant to regard these as cryptids. Seems like something there’s a small population of extremely cunning and stealthy big cats that has adapted to their new environment.
It’s just a matter of time.
