What Makes a Mother?
Summary: Jenova managed to break free on her own after countless years entrapped by the creatures of this planet. But the only way to do so was to become that creature herself. She could have waited until the time was right and kept what was left of her original form, but she wanted the child they grew with her cells. She wanted her son; to use him and raise him exactly as she saw fit for her goal.
Inspired by this ask to @altocat . Also inspired by A Monster's Threads.
…
How long has it been since they imprisoned Her?
How long ago did the tests and probes and samples begin?
How many years since she called and scraped and clawed her way into the subconscious of son they made her?
How many years since he hid her away with sleeping pills and exhaustive training?
Too many. Too much. Too long. Her true form failed Her for too long. This immobile body brought Her nothing but torture over Her capture. Now She had a way out. A key. A sequence of DNA bound to her as if her own to manipulate until her form could move again. She had shed her true body months ago, avoiding the hunters attempting to capture her and keep Her away from Her son.
She would twist him to her will until she no longer had use of him. But She would be a fool if she allowed his strength to go to waste.
The human captors hunted her. She hunted her son, following the strands of each dream she gave him, each appearance to show him Her presence growing closer. She supported the need for sustenance this body required with the creatures and running water sources of each area she traversed. She wasted no piece of them by molding their skin to clothing and leaving the unusable remains as deterrents from her current location. Only when She was close to him did She consider his own needs, the required sustenance and shelter. She found a path through the mountains of this new terrain and mentally marked the locations of the caves closest to the forests. She narrowed down the exact desirable location by scanning for the most wildlife.
All that was needed now was Her son by Her side.
Sephiroth did not know of Her pursuit, his dreams as terribly cryptic and eldrich as always. He simply did his duty to the company that raised him, slashing and killing anyone deemed an enemy unless further instructed. The war with Wutai raged each and every day over the past few months, lucky for even a few hours of reprieve between the battles.
He had almost finished off the latest squad that dared to ambush him. He thought the rustling in the bushes was simply an assassin waiting for the moment he put his guard down. He stood like a statue but watched from the corner of his eye, waiting for the moment they either revealed themselves or fled.
He didn't expect the red eyes from his nightmares.
He didn't expect a lone woman.
He didn't expect to see hair just as silver and skin just as pale as his own.
He didn't-
“W-Who are you?” He questioned as he straightened to the ready, his blade itching in his hand. But his hands were shaking.
“I am your mother,” She stated factually, her voice barely natural, holding a weight he could not comprehend yet. He would. With time. “I am Jenova.” She knew exactly what humanity called her. She knew the lies they told Her son, and the lies She would use to her advantage. “I’ve come to take you away from this war.”
Sephiroth stared, dumbfounded and slack jawed. That didn’t make any sense. His mother? After so long? She looked like him. Yet she also looked like his nightmare. A nightmare that always followed him, watching and reaching. Maybe even… searching for him? The dissonance in his mind made his head spin, a battle between his logical conclusions and his childlike desires. “...M-my mother died in…” He admitted his truth without realizing it.
She shook her head. “I did not die. They took you away from me. I've spent years searching for you.”
She was searching for him?
She offered him her hand, not moving a inch closer, giving him a ‘choice’. “Come with me.”
She sounded unnatural, impossible, unfathomable by the complex yet simple voice alone. Yet Sephiroth felt himself drawn to it.
The rest of their conversation, of his denial and search for fact, was a blur. The last thing he remembered from that day was her dirty hand snaring his wrist as she led him along to some unknown location, and he let her.
* * *
He had been in this cave for too long.
At least a week had passed since the day he went with her. Or she captured him. Or he followed. Or she coaxed him. He couldn't tell anymore. What he knew was that he sustained no injuries, no harm from this woman. His clothes, though reeking from days of being unable to wash them, remained perfectly intact, only soiled a bit by the natural dirt and dust of the cave entrance. No slashes from training machines. No tears from monster attacks. Not a deliberate imperfection on him. In fact, he barely lifted his blade from the moment he first sat in this cave.
He should’ve been happy, away from the war and pointless battles, away from forced struggle, finally in the arms of something that he hoped deep down truly cared about him. But he wasn’t. He thought he wanted his mother's attention, but the way she watched him for hours without speaking unsettled him to his core. He thought he craved his mother's touch, but he wanted to hide when her grimy hands held him, petting more dirt and dried blood into his bird's nest of knotty hair. He was so hungry, yet she only returned with decapitated small animals. She didn't even cook them. He tried to cook himself with his materia, but he had no knowledge of skinning or boning or preparing a fresh kill in any way. He actually found himself missing the sludge of protein Shinra always rationed him. At least those he understood. At least he knew he wouldn't get an infection from them.
Sephiroth felt like a pet to her. He didn't feel like a son.
Only one piece of this escape remained exactly as he first believed it would be: the stars in the night sky were absolutely breathtaking, completely unobstructed by the war or by light pollution. The branches and sweeping stars of the galaxy always made his eyes widen like a cat's in the dark, his attention completely claimed by the eternal expanse, only occasionally spotting a smile from his Mother in response to his curiosity.
She only treated him the way She understood human mothers acted with their children. She knew he craved touch and attention, so she gave it. She fed him and protected him as she was expected to, but She also waited for her opportunity into his heart, to twist him caringly to her own goal.
Yet one night, Sephiroth winced away from Her touch.
He always stayed at the very edge of the cave at night, staring into the cosmos with a longing She knew he didn't understand yet. But that particular night, it was raining, not even rolling lightning brightening the sky for his snake-like eyes to watch in a game, trying to catch the next flash before it vanished. No, that night the opaque sky and constant flood of droplets forced him further within the cave, the only lights emitting from his sky blue eyes and Her glowing red ones, yet both had an affinity for seeing in the dark. No artificial light was necessary.
She froze her hand at his response, confusion barely visible on her features as she turned to find his eyes.
His bangs blocked Her gaze, and when she reached for him again, he actively shuffled out of her reach, the edge of his uniform barely touching the water he so desperately tried to avoid a moment before. But avoiding Her clearly took priority.
“...stop…” The weakest plea left his lips, a tone he never used with her. Desperate and fragile. Everything She could not allow him to be.
She moved from the wall to scan him clearly, sitting directly across from him and watching him intently. He cringed away from her gaze itself now, turning and hiding. Hiding. She didn’t understand why.
“What is it?” She questioned with kindness in her voice, recognizing the act as another motherly trait.
Sephiroth didn’t answer. He only tightened against the wall, his knees to his chest over his crossed arms.
She watched, but she still didn’t understand.
He grimaced at her gaze, her silent push. His jaw only tightened. He seemed conflicted, fighting within his own thoughts. Why would he still be fighting if She was there beside him?
“Sephiroth,” She called for his attention with an obvious question, but he did not move, “Is something wrong?”
He took a shaky inhale before finally whispering an answer, “...too much…”
Her brows creased, yet she waited for an explanation, no matter the time he needed to traverse his muddy emotions.
“...This isn’t right…” His words left his mouth before he could stop them, breathy and uncertain, “...You’re…”
Her gaze hardened at his suggestion, but he forced the truth through.
“You’re not a mother…”
The strength in her gaze weakened slightly. Not a mother? Was she not doing enough? Was her mimicry failing her? What was she missing?
“Why?”
He gripped his arms. He felt what he thought was genuine concern in her words, but he didn’t know the reasoning behind his feelings. Discomfort and uncertainty and unhappiness. Every time his eyes met hers, the spark of joy and the hope that appeared when she first came to him fizzled, the slightest spark he desperately wanted to reignite. But he didn’t know why it was gone in the first place. He only knew he hated these conditions and he honestly preferred the lab, a thought he swore he would never have.
A moment of silence passed to allow him his inner turmoil to settle and hopefully come to a conclusion.
Yet no answer met the air, so the mother probed softly, only after giving him time. “What do you need?”
Again, he did not know an answer.
Perhaps he didn’t understand the question. She reworded the request. “What are you missing?”
His gaze physically lit up, finally snapping into place. Something finally sprung to life. “My privacy…” He began to list, and She watched and listened intently without further question, tracking the solution to every problem silently. “Cleanliness… Food- real food… T-This cave… just…” He winced again, baring his teeth at his own confusion.
She understood, but she still needed precise answers. She needed to be careful with her words. “Do you dislike my gaze and touch?”
It took everything he had to nod slowly.
“Because I lack a level of cleanliness?”
Another nod. Further tightening. “...because you won’t stop…”
The sustenance and shelter issues She would deal with later. He utterly craved touch; he always had. If he rejected Hers, then he was already denying her and that denial could severely delay her plans. She needed a way to fix this, to either manipulate more time together or locate the quickest solution. But time would absolutely solidify his bond with her. “Teach me, then.”
He finally looked at her, shocked and confused. Either way, that was a victory, his blue eyes meeting her red ones.
“Teach me when my touch is too much or too little, and I will build a home.”
Home. She knew that word warmed his heart by the shift of his breath.
“Teach me the cleanliness you desire, and I will learn to prepare our meals.” She almost chastised herself for not realizing these needs of his sooner.
Sephiroth had a disbelieving look in his eyes, like it would be easier said than done. Little did he know She had exactly the mother in mind to mimic all her promises to reality, a dark haired scientist who injected herself with Her cells before bearing a child.
But another fact nipped at Her thoughts. “Why wait to tell me?” She knew the pattern of silence he adapted to in order to survive his childhood, but her presence should have been enough to counter that practice.
Her assumption was wrong, because he went silent again, this time looking down in guilt and sadness.
Her copied motherly instincts told her to pet him, to hug him, to comfort him, but he denied her a moment ago, pushing him too hard in this state could break him. She glanced at the water entering the cave and to her hands. Though she had done it before, perhaps it had been too long. She scooped the liquid into her hands and washed off the dirt within her skin.
Sephiroth watched quietly as she shook them out, droplets splashing back to the expanding mass.
“May I comfort you?” She disliked the question, the option she gave him instead of an order, but she hid her true feelings under a layer of care.
Sephiroth scooted away from the edge, regretting the wetness now staining his side, and nodded again. His mother returned to his side, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and coaxing his fragile mind to lean on her.
“Do you feel lighter from your explanation?” She knew his confession took a toll on him, but his hidden conflict weighed his mind in ways she did not expect.
He didn’t have the strength to answer under her touch, her warmth. He only let out a small sigh of relief as he closed his eyes on her shoulder, his emotions exhausting him.
“Rest, my son.” She whispered like velvet, slowly pulling him to dreams she would soon manipulate. A grin pulled at the corners of her lips. “I love you.”
Those three words had the power to stall any human mind with welcome emotions, her son’s included from his quick gasp of breath.
“Just know it to be true.” She lifted the small panic from his thoughts, returning her gaze to the soft one he needed. She didn’t need the obligatory return of the phrase yet. He would say it soon. She was sure of it. “I will wait.”
His last thoughts, despite the rain, despite the lack of stars, despite his conflicted explanations of the night, were warm, calm, and safe as he drifted into Her realm of dream.

Thanks for reading!
Author’s Note: I seem to have a pattern of always finding a way for Jenova to win, and even though this doesn’t fit my usual ‘Queen of the Nibelheim Incident’ title, it certainly has that air to it, doesn’t it? I know Alto’s headcanon had Sephiroth finally wanting to escape, but my brain decided to do that thing again of “I will never lose”. Thus, I manipulate whatever I can into getting Sephiroth to Mc-F***ing-Lose-It. Hope you all enjoy Creepy Jenova, because this is far from the first fic I’ve done this and Far from the last. (also please check out Altocat’s stuff if you haven’t. She’s a fantastic writer.)

Sephiroth is such a fucking wild character when I really think about it sometimes.
He was injected with alien cells in his mom’s womb as part of an extremely dubious science experiment, transformed into “part alien” because of it, was marked a successful specimen shortly after he was born, and then raised by a company as a product and weapon.
He got sent to war (ACTUAL WAR THAT ALSO INVOLVED GENOCIDE) at age 14 by Shinra as the first of his specific type of super-soldier, LITERALLY BY HIMSELF with no guide or mentor, but just the knowledge of his past training, a nameless sword, a few materia, and a picture of his missing mom.
He took command of a team of veteran mercenaries, got overly attached to them after just over a week had passed because they were apparently the first kind adults he had ever met + he had never known any semblance of a normal family, home or life, and then they all killed a bunch of people together on an island.
Halfway through Sephiroth fucking lost the photo of his mom like a classic little kid would except he was a child soldier, so he had to dig through literal corpses to look for it.
Meanwhile, his adult team started realizing the company they were working for was pretty corrupt and hmm, genocide bad. So they DESERTED to go save a kid that was the sole survivor of the people they had battled to extinction.
And Sephiroth COMMITTED TREASON ON HIS FIRST MISSION for them and to go help save the kid. But then he killed that same kid to save his team from a sinking island instead, who got really upset about that and left him to go desert their posts as soldiers hired by Shinra. Also, he somehow regained his mom’s photo during this whole fiasco but then one of his adult squad-mates kicked it into the sea in a fit of rage. Most pointless photo ever.
But that’s fine because then he just went BACK TO WAR and grew up through his teen years fighting in it, made two new friends with his fellow super-soldiers, nearly finished the war with them, and then they deserted too. One basically committed assisted suicide. One vanished completely and went ballistic.
Then Sephiroth ended up in his hometown on a mission, but he didn’t know it was his hometown because had no idea who he was.
He instead found a creepy weird room inside a reactor full of his dad’s unethical human experimentation, had a mental breakdown and a bad falling out with one of his former super-soldier friends who was dying and deranged, went to a basement library in an old haunted mansion, read a bunch of data on his own experimental creation and the project that led to his conception, believed a lie that he was the last of an ancient species, and lost his mind.
So he went and burned down his own hometown, killed a bunch of people, cut off the head of an eldritch alien that he thought was his mom and stole it to keep, got nearly cleaved in half by some farm boy, fell into the depths of a mako reactor (with the aforementioned alien head), and died for five years before coming back to destroy the world with a meteor. He briefly became a god around this time too.
He didn’t successfully carry out the meteor plan and basically died AGAIN, but this time he came back by using the forms of three random kids to rediscover his own personality because his memories of his past self were erased. He was resurrected, fought his mortal nemesis for revenge, lost again, and seemingly died for the last time but with a final statement about not really ever vanishing in full? Sure?
Also, his real mom is locked away in a crystal because she couldn’t kill herself thanks to being stuffed with alien cells. His dad never admitted to even being his father until his last moments and was just a devoutly cruel, horribly abusive scientist, that let Sephiroth go through all the previous shit just to see what would happen.
For some reason, Sephiroth can also traverse multiple worlds now too.
Oh and he has hair almost to his knees, cat eyes, goth leather club gear, and a sword taller than he is. He is 6’7/200 cm.
Oh and the wing! He has one random wing too. Sure.
Absolutely bizarre character. There is so much wrong with him. It’s perfect.
#WHAT EVEN IS THIS STORY#this is why i’m stuck here after months still trying to figure it out#it just gets more unhinged to me every day#lmao#sephiroth#ff7

You met Peter during his welcoming party from space it was weird cause his Grandpa said they had lost him since he was a child, but weirder word had left when an alien attack happened and he was a part of them.
"So you fought a purple giant alien?" you asked him warily, drinking your mimosas
"Yes, I was a part of it" You nod giving him a smile he has been so handsome from that day you two became great friends he shared with you about his time in space and why he was kidnapped.
"So your dad wanted you and he was a freaking planet?" Peter's story got weirder day by day you both were sitting in a cafe.
He nods gulping his coffee "You heard that right after my mom died" he pauses for a moment his face changing and you keep your hand on his "And then I ran away a spaceship came and took me the person who took me was a real father to me even though I screamed David Hasselhoff is my dad" he chuckles and then continues the story of how Yondu saved him from creepy ravagers to sacrificing himself and how his father was killer of his mom.
Much later he talked about the love of his life who was sacrificed for the soul stone when questioned about the stone he replied saying it was another long story and that the present one is dead but her old version is living which again was for another story.

He nods taking the phone from you and you start teaching him how to use the app he is excited that now people have no worries about the wires sticking but the fun with it the old ones was different.
Taking your hand he puts on the music and then spends the day enjoying dance and music and soon finding love for each other

Alien Romulus review so spoilers because I'm so so disappointed after being told by every one how good it was and how great the effects were (you all lied to me) so so so long so so so so I don't know if it's worth reading
👍 Loved that they kept up the tradition of killing the people who smoke on screen first
👍 Technology design choices were so fun and did what Prometheus failed to do as a PREQUEL. Also failed to do what the movie itself should've done as a SEQUEL and kept notably similar design choices BUT STILL ADVANCE THE TECHNOLOGY?
👎 They made a group of people so unlikable or undeveloped that I didn't care if they lived or died.
👎 The cousins blatant bigotry against Andy came off mostly as racist AND ableist with no good reason whatsoever. Especially since it clearly wasn't justified by his mother's death because the synthetic in question that "caused her death" was justified in saving more lives over the few. His choice to leave his own family behind despite being so torn up about his mom too? And finally his weird breathing and hovering scene with the pregnant sister right after his girlfriend died was lowkey creepy and I hope it wasn't trying to imply he was the one who got her pregnant? Bottom line he deserved it and his death was the only entertaining one. Was that supposed to be on purpose?
👎 The boyfriend was a bland unlikeable character who failed to even be good enough for meat fodder + deserved to die for wasting screen time AND for letting his cousin be a racist dick to Andy despite them needing the for the whole fucking trip to happen. Worthless character.
👎 First facehugger impregnation being a woman. What a spit in the face.
👎 The fact that it was also a woman I didn't even know the name of! But had 1 more second of development than the rest and seemed like she could've been a cool character if the screen time wasn't logged by unlikeable men. Her alien birth scene was so tone deaf to the original horror of the series idk. I get not wanting to repeat the same thing but the worthless guys survived those facehuggers too easily for her to be the gratuitous birth fodder.
👎 Pregnant sister. I don't know how that could've been done differently but yea. Her boob slime was so. 🙄
👎 Her alien wannabe engineer baby thing sucked. It was so corny I laughed outloud I don't know how it could've been done better but making the aliens more humanoid but not in an uncanny way, like a weird trying too hard to be scary way, felt like a disservice to the viewers intelligence? The fact that it was a full sized thing in like 3 seconds too? No offense but wouldn't it be scarier to fight something small and newborn baby like instead of Grown Ass White Man #72
👎 Rooks facetracking shit was so gagworthy and bringing him back wasn't the tribute to the og movie like they wanted it to be. Remember how the big bang theory would make references by just naming randome nerd shit in succession? That's what he was. Just because you have a character come back doesn't mean it fits the theme of the movie you're developing.
👎 Rook's non-ambiguous characterization as evil. Just lame and defeats the complexity of the original character as well as how the synthetics have been developed.
👎 Her name is Rain and that's my name she wishes she was me so bad.
Rain was just so? Such an underdeveloped character who kicked ass and I appreciated her like? Waiting till Andy had seizure to help him out? I don't know. She just had no backstory or substance and Andy's whole character being there to protect her was fucking lame. Seeing her change that at the last bit was like yay development but then Andy gets killed so then it was just whatever.
Andy's character again, being there to protect Rain and not develop on his own. His disabilities being "cured" for most of the movie. Why the accent? Anyways I'm glad he was there because he was the shining star of the whole thing and even that felt a bit too on the nose as if they knew every one else was worthless.
The movie had a few jumpscares and the gore was nothing compared to ANY of the previous movies. Ultimately I felt nothing for the entire hour and half except for when the cousin got slimed, which I laughed. The mix of CGI was strange. 1 out of 10 as fuck! Do you think they're gonna make a sequel?

Highlights of Ep 482
SPOILERS ALERT
tw: violence, child abuse
"Now I will reveal my darkness. You’re not gonna blame me like a fool and cry. I’m gonna take back what I lost..." - Lucia, "Lunar Phase"
youtube
After a series of failed curative attempts, Vin’s mom took him from Seoul to the male shaman in Cheonliang in order to cure his eyes.
The shaman and his team immediately performed the exorcism with goat as sacrifice. Vin’s mom spent a lot for this ritual. Vin’s mom was yelled at for being insincere in her prayers and began praying in earnest.
A little boy was used as the sacrifice in order for Vin to “heal”. He had six fingers in each hand and six toes in each foot. He was stripped naked, tied, and stoned to death.
The villagers treated Vin and his mom with either creepy welcome or open suspicion as to why they left Seoul and came to Cheonliang. Some of them accused Vin’s mom of being a “loose woman” who probably had her son out of wedlock.
Meanwhile, the fraudulent shaman secretly lusted after Vin’s mom.
That night, Vin’s mom woke him up and they both tried to escape the village to no avail. The shaman had stopped the selling of bus tickets in the name of the “Child God” and instructed the ticket seller in advance.
Vin’s mom reported the stoning of the child to the local police station and showed the photo in her phone but instead her phone was taken by the officer on duty, again in the name of the “Child God”.
The bewildered mother and son took a taxi, but even the taxi driver took them back to the Shaman’s house and every other cult follower waited for them there.
From then on Vin and his mom lived in misery and captivity where their every activity was being watched and Vin began calling his life hell.
Not long after, Vin woke up to find his mom dead, hanging from the rafters in his dark room.
After that and since the stoned kid ran away, it was Vin who replaced the stoned kid as the sacrifice totem for the Shaman’s rituals to erase bad luck. He was stripped naked in freezing winter, he was also kicked and mistreated in every possible way.
People came and stare at Vin’s eyes during these (fraudulent) rituals, as he was splashed with animals’ blood to symbolize the driving away of bad luck.
It was then when Vin had his meager meal after a ritual, he met another kid, dark skinned and wrapped up warm. This kid is TAEJIN, the only son of the shaman.
Taejin offered Vin some meal (burger from a certain fast food brand) and was kind to Vin and asked if he felt cold. He even promised to clothe Vin once he became a shaman. Because Vin was his. (Edit: I was mistaken about this earlier. I thought he only meant to save Vin).
Taejin’s life was the opposite of Vin’s because, even though Vin was allowed to go to school, stones were thrown at him and he was called a Monster every day.
Vin tried to stab his polycoria eye once because he was sure it was the source of all of his unhappiness (there’s a photo of his family of three on the table, his parents and him). It’s implied that probably his father was gone (but I’m not sure). Crying in desperation, little Vin wondered what did he do wrong.
Fast forward to Vin’s middle school days where he kept beating people up and grew his hair long to cover his eyes. Kids avoided him in the corridors, whispering that he hated handsome guys because of his inferiority complex.
That day, Vin passed Taejin by in the school corridor but they both said nothing to each other, all traces of their childhood interactions had vanished.
As he pretended to sleep in his classroom, Vin thought he was glad to be alienated, at least nobody came closer.
Rumors reached the school of a monster who lived in a cave in the mountains.
One night, Vin was dragged to work for the shaman again and this time he was stripped naked… and was paraded in the street in front of his schoolmates, while Taejin was sitting far ahead with his shaman father.
From shame and pain, Vin ran away crying to the mountain, begging the Monster of the Cheonliang Mountain to come and kill him instantly.
But a young man came out of the cave, instead of a monster.
This man would in turn become Vin’s future teacher. The King of Cheonliang: YOOK SEONGJI.

I was told by a friend to come to you about an old (early 90's, maybe late 80's) toys I played with as a tot and have vague memories of, since I've been looking for them and can't find anything online.
They were these creepy plastic bugs or bug aliens, and I think you could fill them with an artificial slime that you can squeeze back out, and I think they might have had a tie-in movie or something? Would you happen to know what those were?
There were two competing toy lines like that!
"Real squish bugs" could be filled with slime then squashed, the idea being kids could do this instead of squishing the real thing
Then there was "Operation B.U.G." which had more of a storyline about giant, invading mutant insects. You filled these with slime as well as little baby bugs and then you used "lab equipment" to take them apart again! I have some of both around my home actually!
Operation Bug actually calls this "Shock Roach" but it has raptorial claws and an adorable droopy proboscis looking more like a brundlefly'd assassin bug. This is one of the ones you fill with babies. This toy line is about bullying moms.
The babies were magnetic so one of hers is in the middle of this little tiny metal cabinet and I don't know where the other one is, possibly stuck on the lid to a jar that some real insects live in
I think @karltface was the one who sent me this intact set of squish bugz
And I also keep this head louse squish bug (pulverlice) in my small collection of blood sucking arthropod toys. Lice, despite being a common problem for kids and subject of many cartoons, are the ectoparasitic arthropod with the very fewest toys or science models available for some reason. The landscape of plastic bugs and bug creatures goes mosquitoes > ticks > bed bugs > fleas > lice, counting jokey inaccurate ones (there's a lot of "bed bug" character figures that are just, like, a bed with bug legs)

Happy Halloween🎃
Got Trick and Became Treat: a Hello Neighor Fanfic
By alfpage
It was Halloween in Raven Brooks, and the streets were bustling with people in their costumes, ready for a night of fun and candy. At the Roth residence, Nicky was in his room, dressed as an alien, eagerly awaiting the festivities.
Downstairs, Launne, Nicky's mom, was wearing a stylish witch costume when someone knocked on the door. She opened it to find Maritza dressed as a cheetah.
Maritza: "Happy Halloween, Mrs. Roth!"
Launne: "Oh, Maritza, how adorable you look! Nicky, Maritza's here."
Maritza blushed as Nicky came downstairs in his alien outfit. Launne let Maritza in, and Nicky's heart raced as he admired her.
Nicky: "You look so pretty, Maritza."
He grabbed her hand, and they headed out together, leaving Launne with a smile.
Meanwhile, at the Esposito residence, Trinity was wearing a witch costume while Enzo, dressed as a vampire, teased her.
Enzo: "You don't mind if I suck your blood?"
Trinity giggled and playfully swatted at him.
Trinity: "Don't even dare, Enzo."
Out on the streets, Nicky and Maritza ran into Ivan and Finch. Maritza was still a little mad at Finch, but she tried to keep her cool. However, when she saw her again, she couldn't help but throw a candy at her, and Finch retaliated with an acorn.
The two girls started fighting, but Nicky and Ivan intervened, calming them down. Finch left, leaving Nicky, Maritza, and Ivan to continue their trick-or-treating adventure.
They knocked on a door, and to their surprise, their science teacher, Mr. Murtaugh, greeted them in his bloody science suit.
Mr. Murtaugh: "Well hello there, kids."
Nicky, Maritza, and Ivan exchanged glances before deciding to move on.
Nicky, Maritza, and Ivan wandered the streets, their bags full of candy. Eventually, they headed back to Nicky's house to trade candies.
Inside, they spread out their loot and began trading among themselves.
Maritza: "I got so many chocolates! Anyone want to trade for some sour candies?"
Ivan: "I'll trade you some gummy worms for those chocolate bars."
Nicky: "And I'll trade you some candy corn for those sour gummies."
(Meanwhile out of the streets)
Trinity, Enzo, and Delroy set out for a night of trick-or-treating, their costumes ready and excitement building. They approached the first house, Mayor Tavish's residence, adorned with spooky decorations.
Trinity: "Wow, look at all the decorations! This is gonna be fun."
Enzo: "Yeah, and maybe Mayor Tavish will give us extra candy since he's so rich."
They knocked on the door, and Mayor Tavish himself answered, a wide grin on his face as he dumped handfuls of candy into their bags.
Mayor Tavish: "Happy Halloween, kids! Enjoy the treats!"
Next, they visited Gerda, the town baker, hoping for some delicious homemade treats. Gerda welcomed them warmly, offering them freshly baked cookies and cupcakes.
Gerda: "Here you go, my dears! Enjoy the sweets."
Trinity, Enzo, and Delroy thanked her and headed to the next house, Principal Abanante's residence. They hesitated for a moment, knowing the principal's reputation for being strict.
Principal Abanante greeted them sternly but still handed out candies, warning them to behave themselves.
Principal Abanante: "Remember, kids, no mischief tonight!"
They quickly moved on to their science teacher, Mr. Murtaugh's house. As they approached, they could hear strange noises coming from inside.
Trinity: "Do you hear that? What's going on in there?"
Enzo: "I don't know, but let's get our candies and go."
They knocked on the door, and Mr. Murtaugh greeted them with a smile, though they could sense something odd about him.
Mr. Murtaugh: "Trick or treat, kids! Enjoy the night."
Enzo's POV: "You crazy old freak."
They grabbed their candies and hurried away, feeling relieved to be out of there. But their relief was short-lived as they realized the streets were eerily empty, devoid of any other trick-or-treaters.
Delroy: "Where is everyone? This is creepy."
Trinity: "I don't know, but let's get back home."
As they hurried back, they spotted the town's mysterious figure known as the Guest, lurking in the shadows.
Enzo: "Oh no, it's the Guest! We need to get out of here!"
They panicked and ran as fast as they could, the sound of their footsteps echoing through the empty streets. The Guest pursued them relentlessly, getting closer with every step.
Trinity's heart pounded in her chest as they reached her house and slammed the door shut behind them. But the Guest wasn't giving up so easily; they could hear it pounding on the door, its eerie cries sending shivers down their spines.
Enzo: "This is the scariest Halloween night I've ever experienced."
Trinity and Delroy nodded in agreement, their faces pale with fear.
Suddenly, the Guest began to mimic the calls of ravens and crows, sending chills down their spines. With a final, powerful blow, the Guest broke down the door and entered the house.
Enzo: "Run!"
They dashed into the living room, desperately searching for a way to escape. Enzo grabbed a nearby vase and hurled it at the Guest in a futile attempt to fend it off.
Trinity: "Enzo, why the vase?!"
Enzo: "Sorry, I panicked!"
As the Guest closed in on them, they knew they had to act fast. With no other options left, they made a dash for the door and fled from the house, leaving the Guest behind.
Outside, they caught their breath, relief flooding through them as they realized they had escaped the clutches of the mysterious figure.
Trinity: "Let's get out of here before it comes back!"
Finch wandered through the quiet streets of Raven Brooks, enjoying the eerie atmosphere of Halloween night. Suddenly, she spotted Delroy, Enzo, and Trinity sprinting towards her, fear etched on their faces. Without hesitation, she waved at them, wondering what could be causing such panic.
Finch: "Hey, what's going on?"
As they drew closer, Finch's eyes widened in alarm as she saw the Guest hot on their heels. Reacting quickly, she reached for her slingshot, loading it with an acorn and taking aim at the pursuing figure.
With a well-aimed shot, the acorn struck the Guest, causing it to redirect its attention towards Finch. She cursed under her breath, realizing she had inadvertently drawn the danger towards herself.
Finch: "Uh-oh, now it's after me!"
She sprinted away, the sound of her footsteps echoing in the empty streets as the Guest pursued her relentlessly. Just when she thought she couldn't run any further, Trinity appeared, grabbing her hand and pulling her along.
Trinity: "Come on, Finch! We've got to get out of here!"
Together, they raced towards Enzo's house, their hearts pounding with adrenaline. When they reached the front yard, they paused, scanning their surroundings for any sign of the relentless pursuer.
Delroy: "I don't see it anywhere. Maybe we lost it."
Despite their relief, they remained cautious, not wanting to take any chances. They cautiously made their way inside Enzo's house, shutting the door firmly behind them.
Enzo: "Phew, that was too close for comfort."
Trinity: "I can't believe we just outran the Guest. That thing is terrifying."
Finch: "Thanks for saving me back there, Trinity. I owe you one."
Trinity smiled warmly, grateful that they had all managed to escape unscathed.
Trinity: "No problem, Finch. We're in this together."
Delroy: "But what was the Guest doing out there? And why was it chasing us?"
Enzo: "I don't know, but I don't want to stick around to find out. Let's just stay inside and lay low for the rest of the night."
Agreeing with Enzo's suggestion, they settled into the safety of the house, relieved to be away from the looming threat outside. As they huddled together, they couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered in the air.
Trinity: "I hope everyone else in town is safe tonight. We need to warn them about the Guest."
Enzo: "Yeah, but let's worry about that tomorrow. For now, let's just try to get some rest."
Got Trick and Became Treat (Continued)
The night had grown darker, and Halloween's excitement had started to wind down for the town, but not for Nicky. He was still thinking about the basement and the key Maritza had given him earlier. As they rested at his house, Maritza sensed his distraction.
Maritza: "You're still thinking about it, aren't you?"
Nicky hesitated before nodding, the red key resting heavily in his pocket.
Nicky: "I don't know... I just feel like this is our only chance. Everyone's out tonight, even Peterson. With all the distractions, maybe I could finally get into that basement."
Maritza bit her lip, glancing at their pile of Halloween candy.
Maritza: "Then let's go. I'm not letting you do this alone."
Nicky shook his head, but Maritza's determined look softened his resistance.
Nicky: "Alright, let's go together. But if things go wrong, we're out of there. Agreed?"
Maritza nodded, and they slipped out into the cold Halloween night, making their way through the quiet streets back toward Peterson's house.
Back on the street, Enzo, Trinity, Delroy, and Finch were still shaken from their run-in with the Guest. Huddling inside Enzo's house, they tried to relax, but Trinity's nerves got the best of her.
Trinity: "What was the Guest even doing? I mean, he chased us out of nowhere!"
Finch leaned back, breathing deeply.
Finch: "It's Halloween. Maybe the Guest saw us and just... wanted to give us a good scare?"
Delroy raised an eyebrow.
Delroy: "Or maybe he's just really, really weird."
They shared a laugh, but Trinity's eyes wandered to the window, still feeling uneasy.
Enzo tried to change the subject, gesturing to their Halloween candy stash.
Enzo: "Alright, how about we trade? I'll give two chocolate bars for one caramel."
Finch scoffed, tossing an acorn she'd kept from earlier.
Finch: "Deal. But only if you take this acorn too."
They all chuckled, the tension easing a little as they began swapping treats, each enjoying the small reprieve from the night's fright.
Meanwhile, Nicky and Maritza reached Peterson's house, cloaked in shadows and looking more foreboding than usual in the dim Halloween lights. Nicky gripped the red key tightly.
Nicky: "Alright, Maritza. Follow me, but stay close. We'll go through the back door, just like before."
They crept toward the back, carefully avoiding the few stray decorations and scattered bear traps Peterson had hidden around the yard. Nicky managed to unlock the door again, and the two slipped inside, closing it softly behind them. The house was deathly quiet, and Nicky felt a shiver run down his spine.
Inside, the hallways seemed even darker than before, as if the house itself were somehow watching them. They edged forward, trying to make as little noise as possible. Nicky led Maritza toward the basement door, his heart pounding louder with each step. Finally, they reached it.
Nicky: "Alright, here goes."
He inserted the red key, turning it slowly until the lock clicked open. With a nod to Maritza, he swung the door open, revealing a dim staircase descending into darkness.
Maritza: "Let's go quickly. I don't want to be here any longer than we need to."
They took a deep breath and descended, the stairs creaking under their weight. As they reached the bottom, their eyes adjusted to the darkness, revealing a room lined with more missing posters—faces of children staring blankly from the walls.
Nicky: "This... this is worse than I thought."
Maritza looked around, her hand covering her mouth in shock.
Maritza: "We need to get proof. People have to know what he's hiding down here."
Just as they started searching for clues, they heard footsteps from above. They froze, listening intently.
Peterson: "Roth... I know you're here."
Nicky's heart raced. He motioned for Maritza to stay quiet, but Peterson's footsteps grew louder, descending the stairs.
Peterson: "Did you really think you could hide from me, boy?"
Nicky spotted an old cabinet in the corner and gestured for Maritza to hide. They squeezed into the cramped space, holding their breath as Peterson's shadow appeared on the staircase. He stopped just a few steps from the bottom, scanning the room, his eyes narrowing.
Peterson: "You can't hide from me forever."
The suspense was nearly unbearable as Peterson lingered for a moment, his gaze sweeping the room. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he turned and began climbing back up the stairs. Nicky waited, listening intently until Peterson's footsteps faded.
Maritza: "Let's get out of here before he comes back."
They slipped out of the cabinet and made their way back up the stairs, trying to keep their movements quiet and controlled. But as they reached the hallway, they spotted a figure waiting for them at the top of the stairs.
Peterson's face twisted into a sinister grin.
Peterson: "Going somewhere?"
Nicky bolted, grabbing Maritza's hand, and together they sprinted back down the hall. Peterson gave chase, his footsteps heavy and fast.
Nicky and Maritza remained crouched beneath the table, hearts racing, listening to the muffled sounds of Peterson moving around the basement. The creaks of the old house echoed ominously as he searched for any sign of them.
Peterson: "You can't hide forever, Roth! I know you're here!"
Maritza shivered, her small frame trembling in fear. Nicky glanced at her and could see how scared she was. He felt a pang of guilt for putting her in this situation.
Nicky: "It's going to be okay, Maritza. We just need to wait for him to leave."
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the basement door creaked open, and Nicky could hear Peterson's footsteps retreating. He held his breath, counting silently in his head, and when the footsteps faded, he leaned closer to Maritza.
Nicky: "Now's our chance. Let's go!"
Maritza nodded, her eyes wide with apprehension. They crawled out from beneath the table, peeking around cautiously. The basement was dim, with shadows dancing in the corners. Nicky quickly moved toward the old window he had spotted earlier.
Nicky: "This way!"
Maritza followed closely, and together they pushed the window open, the cool night air rushing in. They could hear the distant laughter of other kids trick-or-treating, a stark contrast to the fear gripping them inside Peterson's house.
Maritza: "What if he sees us?"
Nicky: "He won't. Just be quiet."
With one swift motion, they squeezed through the window and landed softly on the grass outside. Nicky glanced back at the house, half-expecting Peterson to appear, but the place remained silent.
Nicky: "We made it! Let's get back to my house."
Maritza's relief was evident, but her hands still shook slightly as they sprinted down the street. Nicky noticed how frightened she looked and felt a wave of guilt wash over him. It was his idea to check out Peterson's place.
As they reached Nicky's front porch, Maritza hesitated, her face pale.
Maritza: "That was... really scary."
Nicky stepped closer, sensing her fear.
Nicky: "I'm sorry, Maritza. I didn't mean for it to be like that."
Without thinking, he wrapped his arms around her in a warm hug, hoping to reassure her. She leaned into him, seeking comfort in the safety of his embrace.
Maritza: "I just thought Halloween was supposed to be fun."
Nicky: "It is fun. And we're safe now. Let's just forget about Peterson and enjoy the rest of the night."
They stepped inside, and Nicky closed the door behind them, the warmth of the house enveloping them.
As they walked into the living room, Maritza curled up on the couch, wrapping her arms around her knees. The cold air had settled in, and Nicky could see her shiver. Without hesitation, he joined her, sitting close and draping his arm over her shoulders.
Nicky: "See? Much better."
Maritza smiled, though her eyes still held a hint of fear.
Maritza: "Thanks, Nicky. You always know how to make things feel less scary."
Nicky chuckled softly.
Nicky: "It's my job as your boyfriend."
Maritza leaned into him more, finding comfort in his warmth. Nicky could feel the tension in her body begin to ease, and he was grateful for the chance to protect her, even if it was just from their own fears.
Nicky and Maritza cuddled together on the couch, the chill of the night air fading as they nestled under a soft blanket. The warmth of their connection began to soothe the lingering fear from their earlier adventure in Peterson's house.
Maritza: "I'm glad we're safe now."
Nicky: "Me too. Let's just relax for a bit."
They sat in comfortable silence,. Before they knew it, their eyelids grew heavy. The exhaustion from their frightening escapade took hold, and they both drifted off, lulled by the warmth of the room.
A few minutes later, Launne entered the living room, her witch costume still slightly askew from the night's festivities. She was checking in on Nicky, ready to remind him not to eat too much candy. But as she walked in, she paused at the sight before her.
There on the couch, Nicky and Maritza were cuddled together, fast asleep. Their peaceful expressions and the way they held each other brought a smile to Launne's face.
Launne: "Oh, look at those two."
She stepped closer, her heart swelling with warmth. She remembered the days when Nicky was just a little boy, and now here he was, growing up, sharing sweet moments with his friends. Launne quietly walked over, not wanting to wake them but needing to capture the moment in her memory.
Maritza stirred slightly, and Launne held her breath, afraid of interrupting the tranquility. She noticed Nicky's arm wrapped protectively around Maritza, and it was clear how much he cared for her.
Launne: "I guess Halloween really can be a treat after all."
Feeling a rush of maternal pride, Launne leaned down to tuck the blanket more snugly around them.
Launne: "Sweet dreams, you two."
Just as she turned to leave, a loud crash from outside startled her. Launne quickly stepped to the window, peering out into the darkened street. She could see a group of kids running past, laughing and yelling, their bags of candy bouncing as they dashed to the next house.
She returned her gaze to the couch, the sight of Nicky and Maritza bringing a smile back to her face.
Launne: "They've been through enough excitement for one night. No need to add more."
She quietly left the room, closing the door softly behind her, allowing the two to rest in their cozy bubble.

seeing little shop of horrors at my old high school
tonight, my mom and i visited my former high school to see their production of my favourite musical, little shop of horrors. it was my third time seeing the show, and my second seeing it at this school. my first time was all the way back in my freshman year, so it’s safe to say it’s been a while. since then i’ve begun to consider myself a critical viewer of any little shop media, so here are my thoughts on tonight’s show.
characters and dynamics
seymour was great! the actor knows my sister and she hates him for being her year’s golden child, but performance-wise he’s pretty good! personally i thought his acting was better than his singing—while he had a good voice, it seemed like it belonged to a character with a more confident personality. i also thought he was a little too well-built to be seymour—he should either be a scrawny fella or a gangly beanpole. then again, that’s probably just the limitations of casting students from one school. a thousand kids is not a lot, oddly enough.
audrey was also lovely. i do think she was played a bit too much for laughs, and she was a little too ditzy for the perception i have if her, but i think that happens in a lot of adaptations.
i really liked mushnik. he played the part very well, and i got a strong sense he knew what he was doing.
my sister also knows the actor who played orin—i think they’re friends, i don’t know. he was absolutely incredible. the kid is usually a really nice fella, but he was terrifying as orin. mad props to him. he was also a blast to watch as bernstein mrs. luce and skip snip.
this was my first time i’ve seen a show that gave audrey ii a feminine vocie, and the actress did a great job. i do wish they could have cast a girl with a deeper voice, but there probably weren’t many of those.
much like the last time the school did the show, there were six doo-wop girls. crystal absolutely stole the show when she sang, she had an amazing voice.
this production had a bigger ensemble than i’ve ever seen in little shop. usually i see maybe five people at most, but there’s were fifteen kids in the ensemble. made skid row feel more populated, but i like how smaller ensembles emphasise each background character more.
seymour and audrey were very cute as always. there was a moment where seymour got a little close to her toward the beginning and i thought he came off a bit creepy, but other than that it was pretty great. i think my favourite moment was when they danced around the broom in “closed for renovation”.
i noticed audrey flinching away from mushnik a lot of the time, a touch i really appreciated. mushnik is seymour’s abuser, no wonder audrey would be triggered by him.
orin’s treatment of audrey made me want to march onto that stage and sock him in the nose. (that’s a good thing! means he’s a good actor)
seymour seemed scared of mushnik at times. yeah, that tracks.
tech kid stuff
i could tell the budget for this show was higher this time. the plant was far better quality, and instead of the puppet in “ya never know” being operated by seymour it seemed to be remote-controlled.
however, the last puppet they used for the plant looked like it was a struggle to make speak. i wouldn’t be surprised if it was too heavy for the teenage puppeteer.
the exterior set was great. there were newspapers and posters plastered around, many advertising alien movies. we love foreshadowing.
the “mushnik’s flower shop” sign had a piece of wood added to it in act ii that said “and son” which covered the ‘s. okay detail!
the shop itself was pretty cool. it could open and close kinda like a clamshell on its side, and the walls were covered with tarps until “closed for renovation” to reveal “fresh” paint.
orin’s office looked like it was inside of a storage crate or a garage. i liked that choice a lot actually—made him seem more seedy.
the props weren’t anything too special, but i want to point out that orin’s gas mask looked a lot like the one christian borle uses off-broadway. i imagine that was the version the director based this production on?
oh, orin also had a motorbike-moped looking thing. very silly, i doubt it was actually functional. i vaugely remember the other production having a motorcycle too (i helped with tech stuff back then, hence this section title) but i might be thinking of the other show i saw.
the costumes all started mostly monochrome black and white, but by the start of act ii everyone was wearing much more colour. for instance, audrey had on a white shirt, a pink belt, and a very cute zebra-print skirt. i like to think the transition of her wearing mostly black to mostly white was intentional, showing her distance from orin (because he was dead) made her lighter and happier.
meanwhile act ii seymour had a green collared shirt, a red tie, a khaki blazer, and his trademark khaki pants. (he took the blazer and tie off in favour of the leather jacket, which he almost immediately discarded). i liked how it kept the geeky vibes, but i’m too much of a sucker for his classic sweater vest to say i like the other one more.
at one point in “the meek shall inherit” skip snip’s trench coat accidentally came open, revealing mrs. luce’s costume underneath. don’t know if it was intentional, but it looked that way.
the lighting was as good as one would expect. they seemed to use pink to represent audrey and green to represent seymour, and while i don’t think i agree with that choice i can respect it.
at one point they used bright white lights to mimic lightning, but while it looked cool it was also very blinding. i hope nobody there was sensitive to flashing lights.
act i
gonna be brutally honest: the wino in “downtown” could not hit his notes for shit. i’m sure he was cast for having a deep voice, but he didn’t sound very good.
someone in the ensemble gave audrey a flower in “downtown”, and while i’m not entirely sure why, she held it and looked at it during her solo. maybe she was thinking about seymour and how she wished she could be with him? maybe that’s a stretch.
near the end of “downtown”, seymour and audrey both walked backwards to centrestage at the same time, eventually colliding and then fleeing. it was cute, funny, and kinda sad.
i’ve watched the movie at least sixty times, so i was able to notice when they got lines and lyrics wrong. they played it off well, though, and that’s all that matters.
there was a moment where seymour tried to do that friendly punch in the shoulder to audrey but then immediately regretted it and pulled away. relatable king.
instead of the usual approach of having audrey sing “somewhere that’s green” on the stoop, she sang it while wandering around the stage somewhat aimlessly. i honestly didn’t love that choice.
the scene where audrey suggested seymour get some new clothes was very cute. it’s usually one of my favourite scenes, and that was no different this time. while i’m used to the more tender atmosphere of that part of the movie, i also like when they’re almost yelling from excitement before both getting dejected when they come back down to earth.
a benefit of having more than three doo-wops is the fact that when they all try to beat the shit out of orin it’s twice as funny. it’s like sending out your full team of pokémon against a single mightyena.
the stage violence was laughably fake, but i don’t exactly want people to have their actual teeth pulled out.
“mushnik and son” was fun to watch because they went about it in a way i hadn’t seen before. after setmour accepted mushnik’s offer, they threw a ball back and forth (or tried to, seymour had a purposefully bad throwing arm) and then he tried to ride around on mushnik’s back like a kid getting a pony ride from his dad. it made the “giddy up daddy” line make more sense for sure. more sense than them doing the tango.
they censored a few lines, which was weird because i don’t remember that last time. for instance, instead of “a little nookie gonna clean up those zits” twoey said “a little kiss is gonna clean up those zits”. odd.
seymour didn’t really seem to feed orin’s body to the plant. he carried in a pretty small bucket and tossed a few dubious looking sacks inside its maw (not that kind of sack). also an empty shoe. weird.
act 2
mushnik was kinda just standing there during “call back in the morning”. i thought that was a really weird choice. he later says he’s been gone all afternoon at the police, but he left as soon as audrey said “it’s six o-clock”. he wasn’t doing anything, so why have him in the scene?
seymour totally missed the trash can when he tried to throw out the leather jacket. whoops.
i hate it when audrey’s trauma is played for laughs. when she told seymour the gutter was “a night club” (which i’m pretty sure was changed btw; at the very least in the movie she says night spot) the audience burst out laughing. pissed me off.
as briefly mentioned before, throughout the show audrey would often flinch away from physical contact. it felt like a big moment when she allowed seymour to cup her cheek in his hand.
“suddenly seymour” was my favourite, as always. very simple and genuine, both actors did a great job.
when it was time for the doo-wop girls to join in on “suddenly seymour” they all popped up from seemingly out of nowhere all over the stage, even from the front door of the shop.
seymour and audrey hugged at the end of “suddenly seymour” and i was ready to be outraged at the censorship, but they did kiss after a second. it felt weird to cheer on a couple of high schoolers kissing, but i’d say it’s fine since they’re playing characters.
“don’t you mister daddy me!” will never not be funny.
instead of having seymour standing by and watching mushnik get eaten, he was instead huddled up next to a table all scrunched up. i liked that choice for him, it made more sense than just 🧍
i feel like audrey slapped seymour too hard when she was trying to stop him rambling incoherently. it’s meant to be a tap, not a smack.
audrey’s scream when audrey ii got her was bone-chilling. my over-exhausted brain just thought that would be a good time to kill someone in or near a school auditorium during that scene, maybe someone who knows the show and the cues. i should either write a book or go to bed. probably the latter.
audrey’s death always hits me hard, her being my favourite character and all (though seymour is a very close second). i regret to inform you that i did not cry, but my heart definitely broke.
seymour carried audrey’s body into the plant, which he does in most versions but for whatever reason in the school’s last production of little shop she had him walk her to the plant and watch as she jumped in. our seymour was a scrawny freshman so i get why, but it still didn’t make any sense.
similar to his reaction to mushnik’s death, i really liked seymour’s physicality when audrey died. he was draped across a table, looking utterly hopeless and honestly lost. to quote the man himself, audrey ii “ate the only thing [he] ever loved”. (side note: when i heard that line for the first time six years ago i thought he said “you ain’t the only thing i ever loved”. the former makes way more sense.)
as seems to be tradition, our main characters were in flower costumes for don’t feed the plants. iconic behaviour.
the plant was massive by the end, with its whole root system… uh, uprooted. terrifying.
a bunch of vines came down from the ceiling during “don’t feed the plants”. absolutely adored that touch.
i really enjoyed this production! it felt like a nice full-circle moment—i saw the show for the first time in my freshman year at that school, and my only sister is now in her senior year. here’s hoping they do more shows i like while i still live in my hometown so i can go see them. help me pray for heathers y’all.
thanks for making it to the end! as thanks, here’s a picture of the rambley raccoon plushie i brought with me with my program

Opposites - Xavier Thorpe.
A/N - Apparently I just write Angst when it comes to Xavier.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"I miss you, tiny."
Beaming at the text you'd just received from your boyfriend who isn't your boyfriend but kinda is your boyfriend you quickly typed out a reply.
"I miss you too, lanky."
"Who's got you grinning at your phone?" Your mother teased from the other side of the breakfast table. "Is it the mysterious boyfriend?" You rolled your eyes at her. "He's not my boyfriend, Mom. Xavier and I are just-" She cut you off. "-Just friends, I know, I know." She studied you from across the table for a couple of minutes before she said. "You should invite him to dinner, we can order pizza or Chinese food?" You let out a small gasp. "Really?" She nodded. "Really. When is he allowed to leave the school grounds? Weekends? How about Friday night?" This is why you loved your mom, having you young she knew how judgemental other people could be, how horrible they could be and she'd never judged Xavier for being an Outcast, for going to Nevermore. They'd met once. When he ended up in the hospital where she works after Tyler Galpin and his friends beat the shit out of him, it was when you'd first met him as well.
"Mom!" She turned away from her colleague instantly hearing the panic in your voice as you all but fell through the doors of the ER, trying your best to support the tall boy's weight. "Honey, what happened?!" She asked, rushing towards the two of you. "Who is this?" She added as she supported his other side, leading the two of you towards a room. "I don't know his name, I was reading, he was painting a beautiful mural across the road when Tyler Galpin and his friends jumped him and defaced the mural." Your mom huffed, never a fan of bullies and helped you sit the boy down on the bed and started gathering the supplies she would need to clean his wounds, one or two of them you were sure would need stitches. The boy coughed and then croaked out his name. "Xavier." Both you and your mom stopped and turned to look at him, not sure he'd even spoken at all. "My name is Xavier." He croaked again. "Y/N, go and get him some water." She'd slipped into nurse mode and you weren't going to argue. "Xavier honey, can you tell me your last name and your birthday?" She asked as you left. When you'd returned she'd wiped most of the blood from his face but as predicted, he needed stitches. He was eyeing the needle of the anesthetic she was going to give him nervously so you sat yourself down next to him and asked him any questions you could think of to distract him. "Do you think aliens exist?" You asked as you handed him the bottle of water. Your mom quirked an eyebrow at you from his other side and you shrugged in response. "I go to Nevermore, I don't think there's much that doesn't exist." He answered. "Is it really as creepy there as everyone says?" "Y/N!" Your mom scolded you. He let out a tiny laugh that caused him pain, you could tell from the wince. "Does your side hurt, Xavier?" Your mom asked and he nodded. "Okay honey, let's get you stitched up and down to x-ray to see if there's any broken ribs." You sat with him the whole time and then waited with him for Principal Weems to show up. "You helped me. Why?" His question took you by surprise. "It was the right thing to do." You'd told him. "I'm an Outcast, most people wouldn't." You shrugged. "So what? We might be different but that doesn't mean you deserve to be treated any differently to me." He gave you a small smile. "You're alright for a Normie." You laughed. "I should hope so, I lost my copy of Lord of The Ring's throwing it at Tyler's head trying to get him off you." He snorted a small laugh. "You're a nerd too! Even better!" When you got home that night, you had a message request on Instagram and the pair of you began a budding friendship.
"Alright, I gotta go to work, invite Xavier, love you!" Your mom said as she kissed the top of your head and left to go to work.
"Xav!! Guess what?!" You'd text him as soon as she'd left and it struck you as odd that he hadn't replied straight away like he usually does, you busied yourself with getting ready for school and headed out the door. It was lunchtime when he finally replied.
"Y/N/N!! What?" Can a text message sound off? Is that a thing? Because his did, but you shook it off and replied.
"Mom's invited you for dinner on Friday, either pizza or Chinese food, you game?" Again, there was no instant reply and when it did come after dinner it was one word.
"Sure."
Something had been off with Xavier and you couldn't quite put your finger on what it was. But today was Wednesday. Wednesday meant coffee at the Weathervane after school and Xavier's therapy session. As usual you'd make your way there straight after school and start on your homework while you waited for him. You heard the bell above the door go and scribbled your final answers to your homework, having sat in your usual booth you knew he'd know where to find you so you didn't look up straight away, when you did, your heart sank a little. Xavier was sitting on the other side of the coffeeshop with someone you'd never seen, a girl you'd never seen, two identical black plaits and bangs covering her face. He looked enthralled with her. "Ooooh, tough break Y/N, your weirdo boyfriends ditched you." You fought back the lump in your throat. "Fuck off, Lucas." The boy laughed loudly at you as you were trying to pack your things away as quickly as you could, and it drew Xavier's attention to you. Not wanting to meet his eyes you scrambled up and in a rush to leave you fell over your own feet and crashed right into Tyler, who was carrying a tray of hot drinks that ended up all down your front. "Y/N!" Xavier was on his feet, you were mortified. You held a hand up to him to stop him coming any closer. "I'm fine! Go back to…" "Wednesday." The girl introduced herself. Wednesday, the girl you'd heard plenty about, the girl Xavier had rearranged plans with you more than once for. You forced a smile, you were pleased he was making friends you told yourself. "Well it's nice to meet you on this fine Wednesday, Wednesday!" You chirped awkwardly and Xavier had definitely noticed it. "I have to go!" And you turned and ran like a coward.
"Mom! Don't laugh at me! It was mortifying!" She continued to laugh. "I'm sorry baby, I can just picture it!" You huffed and dug your spoon back into the tub of ice-cream you'd been drowning yourself in, ignoring the constant stream of texts you'd been receiving since you got home. "So you do like him then? More than just a friend?" She asked gently. "Well, yeah, I thought we liked each other." She placed her hand on yours gently. "Well, have the two of you ever spoken about that?" You shook your head. "I just thought it was a thing, that we were a thing." She let out a small sigh. "Then baby, he's not really done anything wrong. I know you don't want to hear it but if you've never told him how you feel about him and you've never talked about being a thing, then…" she trailed off as your phone went off again. "But it's Wednesday. We always meet on Wednesday's" She smiled at you. "She's new to the school and town, maybe he was just being nice and showing her around, sweetie, maybe read some of his messages before we panic and uninvite him from dinner and curse his name, yeah?" You nodded at her as you got up from the table and dragged yourself upstairs. It wasn't until you were in your pyjamas and curled into your bed that you looked at your phone.
1 Missed Call - Xavier Thorpe
"Are you okay?"
"Y/N?"
"Talk to me."
2 Missed Calls - Xavier Thorpe
"It's nice to meet you on this fine Wednesday, Wednesday?"
"What was that about?"
"Seriously, Y/N, are you okay?"
"Please don't ignore me."
3 Missed Calls - Xavier Thorpe
"Okay, you're mad, I get it, Wednesday is our day where we hang out."
"Y/N, come on."
"I need to know if you're okay."
"I'll climb through your window, I swear to god, Y/N"
4 Missed Calls - Xavier Thorpe
"Please Tiny, I'm sorry."
The last message nearly broke you, Tiny. Your heart had cracked every time he'd called you by your name in his messages. You didn't reply, you couldn't, what could you say without sounding childish. He never climbed through your window.
You woke up feeling groggy, your eyes were sore and your head was swimming. You looked at your phone to see the texts had continued into the night, but he had stopped trying to call. As you showered and got ready for school you decided you'd at least text him back. Shouldering your backpack and putting your headphones in as you walked out of your house, your Mom long gone as she was on the early shift, you selected the playlist Xavier and you had made during one of your Wednesday's at the Weathervane and clicked play, because you were a sucker for pain.
"Sorry I fell asleep. I'm fine. See you Friday if you still want to come for dinner. You don't have to, it's cool, no worries." This time the reply was instant.
"Don't do that to me! People are dying, Y/N! I've been worried sick! Of course I'm still coming for dinner."
"Could've climbed through the window, couldn't have been that worried. See you Friday." You knew it was a low blow, but it momentarily made you feel better. There was no reply.
The remainder of Thursday and Friday had been horrific. Constant teasing from Lucas and his friends about Xavier and how he'd ditched you. Barely any words said between you and Xavier and a constant anxiety growing about seeing him tonight. You'd tried to reach out but again there was no reply.
"Pizza or Chinese, what are you feeling for tonight? Really looking forward to seeing you!"
"If you still want to come, that is?"
"It's okay if you don't, I understand. Things have been weird between us lately."
"Just let me know."
Which led you here, pacing in your living room, anxiously checking your phone and chewing your nails. "Honey, I'm sure he'll be here." Your Mom tried to reassure you, but there was something in the pit of your stomach telling you that she was wrong.
4:30PM - "What time do you think you'll get here? Do you want me to meet you in town and we can walk here together?"
5:15PM - 1 Call to Xavier Thorpe (Missed)
6:00PM - "Xavier?"
7:30PM - "Are you okay?"
7:45PM - 2 Calls to Xavier Thorpe (Missed)
8PM - "I guess you aren't coming."
8:45PM - 3 Missed Calls to Xavier Thorpe (Missed)
9PM - "I've told Mom to eat, she said she's sorry you couldn't make it and that you're welcome anytime."
10:30PM - "I really hope you're okay. I won't lie. I'm hurt. I'm hurt that you ditched me on Wednesday for Wednesday. I'm hurt that you didn't come tonight. I'm hurt that I'm hurt. I'm hurt that I'm hurt because of you. I'm sorry for how I acted on Wednesday and for what I said on Thursday morning. I miss you, Xav."
He didn't reply.

Into, Across and Beyond! Scripting: Prime Encounter
This scene was co-written with @mcgamejolter. The scene is also based on this animation by DedGrafic.
During Cosmic Discoveries, OMT!Tails was thrown into the Prime Sonic universe by Lost Memory Sonic and knocked out from the impact. A few moments later, Sonic Prime/Modern Sonic showed up, seeing the alternate version of his best bud lying on the floor.
Modern Sonic: Huh? What's up with the blue shoes? Yo, Tails!
As he knelt down to have a closer look, another portal opened behind him, prompting him to leap out of the way as LM!Sonic showed up.
LM!Sonic: Urgh... You could've just stayed out of my business, Prower, and you managed to screw up even THAT.
He held OMT!Tails up by his ankle.
LM!Sonic: You should never have become the hero of your world. You're a mistake, child.
OMT!Tails (in a daze): Uh... Mom, I don't wanna go to school today... I've got a headache...
LM!Sonic: You're an abomination, a danger to others AND to yourself.
On cue, Sonic Prime sped right through him, moving OMT!Tails to a safe position before going back to confront his alternate self.
Sonic Prime: Hey, man. If you're part of Eggman's new army of creepy eyes, you'd better hit the hay if you know what's-!
LM!Sonic promptly bashed him out of the way.
LM!Sonic: SILENCE!
Once Sonic Prime impacted with a tree, his hands were quickly restrained via energy spheres.
LM!Sonic: To think you're the "Prime" version of myself. Disgusting... You once fragmented this reality, creating wars between dimensions and threatening thousands of lives. There's not much difference between you and this two-tailed freak; you're both ticking time bombs that could wreak havoc on reality.
Sonic Prime: Oh, brother. I found someone even grumpier than Shadow. Hey, what's up with you beefing about the whole Shatterverse incident that happened a while ago?!
Shadow Prime arrived on the scene.
Shadow Prime: Well, to be fair, he's right.
Sonic Prime: Hey, wow!
Shadow Prime (to LM!Sonic): However, that still doesn't justify why you've come here. So I suggest you leave now!
LM!Sonic glared at Shadow Prime hatefully, seeing ANY Shadow being his big berserk button.
LM!Sonic: Get out of my way! That sorry excuse of a sidekick is coming with me!
Shadow Prime: So it's the kid you want, huh?
Sonic Prime: Hey, now. I don't want another Nine situation, so I hope you're not thinking about giving Tails to red eyes over there-!
Right then and there, Shadow Prime charged at LM!Sonic as they engaged in combat.
Sonic Prime (genuinely surprised): Huh. I'm... I'm actually surprised.
As the fight went on, OMT!Tails wearily woke up, noticing Sonic Prime restrained.
OMT!Tails: Oh? Hang on! I'll get you down from there.
He disabled the spheres, letting Sonic come back down to terra-firma.
Sonic Prime: Thanks, dude! So... alternate universes... Tell me about it.
OMT!Tails: You know, I remember seeing you a few months back. Weren't you being chased by that robot that wanted the Paradox Prism?
Sonic Prime: Metal X? Yeah, that would be me.
OMT!Tails gasped in awe, his thoughts ultimately confirmed.
OMT!Tails: So you ARE Prime Sonic!
Sonic Prime: The one and only! Fastest thing alive with no-one to serve except the wind that flows free! What more can I ask for than the freedom to go wherever I want! Well... Except, it's clean-up duty again. Someone's gotta fix the mess Baldy McNosehair did.
OMT!Tails: Heh, figures. So, will Shadow be alright trying to fight off that psychopath on his own?
Sonic Prime: Shadow? Oh, please! He's fought a giant lizard and an alien god trying to destroy humanity. What else could some edgy-looking version of myself possibly do?
OMT!Tails: I mean, there's all sorts of variations of you out there, several of which have got this huge Society aiming to keep the wider multiverse safe!
Sonic Prime: So I've heard. I gotta admit, it's really weird seeing hedgehogs that look like me but with different-coloured fur across those multiversal stretches. Speaking of that... is it me, or was that a version of Nine I saw the other day?
OMT!Tails: It sure was!
Sonic Prime: So, where do you plan to go from here? Besides obviously running from that psycho.
OMT!Tails: Well, I've still got some more work to be doing with my own multiversal team once I get moving again.
On cue, LM!Sonic was kicked close to the two.
LM!Sonic: H-How is he so strong...?! This isn't fair! He should've fallen by now!
And fittingly, Shadow Prime kicked him right in the face.
Shadow Prime: Leave now, freak, unless you want me to kick your ass a second time.
Sonic Prime: (to Shadow) Nice work, Shadow! (to OMT!Tails) See? Told ya he could beat him no problem!
OMT!Tails: Heh, sweet!
LM!Sonic got up, frustrated.
LM!Sonic: You weren't even giving it your all! Urgh, Maria would be so ashamed of-.
OMT!Tails: Woah woah woah WOAH! Haven't you even researched the golden rule related to Shadows?
LM!Sonic: Enlighten me, "genius".
OMT!Tails: Do. NOT. Mention. Maria. Out loud. When Shadow is in proximity!
Shadow Prime cracked his knuckles, not at all chuffed with this version of Sonic speaking foul of Maria.
Shadow Prime: So unless you're looking for a death wish, leave our world... and never come back!
LM!Sonic: Fine, then! (to OMT!Tails) But this isn't over, fox! I'll get you yet!
LM!Sonic made his retreat through another portal.
Sonic Prime: Aaaand we'll never see him again.
Shadow Prime: You'd better get back to wherever you came from, Tails. We're not looking to get involved in whatever situation this is.
OMT!Tails: Yeah, that's a good call.
OMT!Tails prepared to leave.
OMT!Tails: Oh, yeah. Before I go, if it at least helps you feel a little better, Shadow, there's always at least one universe where she's alright. Well, see you both around!
OMT!Tails left, Shadow Prime being left to process Tails's words.
Shadow Prime: You know... I prefer him over Nine any day.
Sonic Prime: Oh, come on! Nine wasn't that bad either!
The two began running off.
Shadow Prime: Yeah, but at least this Tails didn't try to kill us.
Sonic Prime: Uuurgh! You're never gonna live that down, are you?
Shadow Prime: Nope.
Sonic Prime: You know what? I shouldn't have asked.

Evil Bunny Rabbits Don't Stand A Chance Against An Angry Father: A Hello Neighbor Fanfic
By JJ
Summary: Basically what it says on the (too long) title.
P.S., this fanfic goes to @rumbleonthemill for one of their posts about a Fnaf and Hello Neighbor crossover.
It was a beautiful, bright and sunny day, and the Peterson family were at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. It was Mya's birthday today, and they decided to spend it somewhere fun.
Well, for Mya, it was fun. But for Aaron and Nicky, it was all little kid stuff.
"This place sucks.", said Aaron as he slid down on his chair.
"I know right? I've played all the games here, I've tried every pizza they've had, and even the ball pit got boring."
It's not that they were trying to ruin the fun, after all, it was Mya's birthday, they've just been here so many times that they got bored of this place. And if they were being totally honest, the only thing they still liked about this place was the creepy singing animatronics.
"Mya's too scared to go near those things.", said Aaron.
"Meh, I wouldn't blame her. Those things are creepy as fuck.", replied Nicky.
"Language, Nicky.", the two boys jumped up in their seats when they heard the voice of Diane Peterson come from behind them.
"Sorry, Mrs. P."
"I'll let it slide this time.", she said. "Come on now, boys. At least try to have fun."
"Fun? Mom, the only thing fun about this place is the animatronics, that are probably alive."
Diane furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Alive? Where on Earth did you hear that story?"
"From a couple of kids at school.", Aaron turned to look at Nicky, impressed by how scared this made him. He leaned in closer to his friend, "They say that the animatronics know where you live. They come to your house, and you have to stay up until 6:00 in the morning, then they go away. And it just continues on and on for five nights."
Nicky was visibly shaking, and that's when Diane stepped in.
"Aaron, stop it! You're scaring him. And second, you don't really believe those childish stories, do you?", she asked.
"Kind of. There used to be a kid in my class who went through that kind of stuff. I forgot his name. Ethan? Eric? Edward?", Aaron tapped his chin for a minute before he finally got it. "Evan! Yeah, it was Evan."
Diane still didn't look convinced. "Look, boys. We won't be leaving until after we cut Mya's birthday cake. Which isn't for another couple of hours now. So I suggest you kids find some way to pass the time instead of just sitting here and complaining about how boring this place is.", she said before she left.
Aaron rolled his eyes and turned to look at Nicky. "I hate to admit it, Aaron, but she's right. I don't want to sit here waiting for Mya's cake to come in for hours, so I guess we're going to have to occupy ourselves with some old video games and pizza.", said Nicky.
Aaron got up and dusted himself off, "Fine."
Almost an hour passed before that conversation. And the boys were taking turns playing the arcade game Freddy's Galactic Adventure. Aaron had lost twice, and kept insisting that he was going to get this right.
"Dude, come on. Give up already."
"No!"
Then Aaron had lost again. Aaron hit the controller and stepped aside. "I forgot how frustrating this game could be.", he growled.
"Let me try. I think I could beat the game.", said Nicky. Aaron decided to let Nicky have a turn, and if Nicky couldn't do better than he did, then no one could.
Nicky firmly gripped the controls and kept his eyes on the screen. When evil aliens began attacking him, he immediately started firing at lightning speed. His knuckles started turning white with his firm grip, and his eyes were starting to strain, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. He let go of the controls and rubbed his eyes when the screen flashed white, and the game started saying "Winner! Winner!"
Aaron was absolutely shocked. "No freaking way, man.", he said.
"Yes freaking way, man. I just beat an old baby game, and on the first try too!", Nicky excitedly said. Puffing his chest out in confidence and cockiness.
Aaron rolled his eyes at his friend's cockiness. "Whatever, Nicky. Look, I'm going to go find Mya, you gonna be okay by yourself?"
"Of course I'll be okay."
"Great.", and Aaron left.
Nicky was still bragging to himself about the fact that he beat a game that not even a grown ass adult could beat. Whoever made this game, he'd like to meet him and tell him that this game is too easy. He was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a voice behind him.
"Ha. Wow."
Nicky turned around to see a yellow rabbit. Eyes wide, almost as wide as his smile. He recognized this rabbit. It was Springbonnie, from Fredbear's Diner, that place that had to close down because some teenagers pushed a kids head into Fredbear's mouth.
"Springbonnie?"
"Yep. That's me.", said the rabbit. "I see you've beaten the hardest game here, and you got the high score."
"Yeah, I did do that."
Springbonnie gave Nicky a low chuckle, and patted his head. "You're a natural, superstar.", he said. "In fact, I think you deserve a little reward.", he said.
Nicky's eyes lit up in excitement. "Well, sure! That sounds like fun."
From Nicky's perspective, it was almost as if the rabbit smiled wider. "Then follow me and we'll go get your reward."
"Follow you?", Nicky was confused. "Where are we going? I know we're getting my reward, but I just want to know where it is."
Springbonnie bent over and spoke to Nicky in a condescending voice. "It's in the backroom. It's a very special reward."
Nicky knew better than to follow strangers, but he really wanted that reward. "Okay, I guess.", he said. And he started following Springbonnie.
Just then, as Nicky left, Aaron came back with Mya. "Nicky! Aaron wanted to know if you wanted to come play in the ball pit with us!", said Mya. But she stopped short when she didn't see Nicky anywhere. "Aaron, where's Nicky?"
"I thought he was right here.", said Aaron.
"What's going on here?", a voice asked from behind them.
They turned around to see their father, Theodore Peterson. "Daddy, we were just about to play in the ball pit, and we wanted to know if Nicky wanted to come play with us, but we can't find him.
"Mya, calm down, sweetheart. He probably just went to the bathroom or something. We'll wait for a little while, and if he's not back by then, we'll start looking for him."
Aaron and Mya nodded, but neither of them were any less worried.
Meanwhile, Nicky had been taken to the backroom of the pizzeria. He was with Springbonnie, looking for this reward.
Springbonnie growled and threw his hands in the air.
"What's the matter?", asked Nicky.
Springbonnie turned back to Nicky and gave him a big smile. "Nothing, kid. Just left your reward in my other pants. Do you mind staying here while I go get it?"
Nicky nodded.
"You're the best, superstar.", was the last thing Springbonnie said before he left.
Nicky decided to look around a bit, just until Springbonnie came back with his reward. He stumbled upon an old Freddy Fazbear suit, all rusty and smelly. Why was it so smelly? He took the head off the body to inspect it closer, and he was not ready for what he saw next.
He saw the body of a little boy. His eyes were blank, and blood was dripping from his mouth.
Nicky jumped up in fear. Why the hell was there a dead body in one of the suits?! Wait...
If there was a dead body in this suit, did that mean there were more dead bodies in the other suits? Is that how the animatronics are capable of coming to life at night?
Suddenly, the door knob started jiggling, and he knew Springbonnie was back. He didn't want to die. He didn't want to be stuffed into a suit. So he started looking for a place to escape. He sighed in relief when he saw a vent, so he pulled it open and climbed inside.
Springbonnie finally managed to open the door, a knife behind his back. "Alright, superstar -", he stopped dead in his tracks when he noticed the dead body without the head to cover it.
"Oh shit.", he growled.
Nicky found his way to the backstage, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn't believe he was about to get murdered by a yellow bunny rabbit. He wanted to get out of here right now. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest when he heard that same voice behind him.
"There you are, superstar!"
"Get away from me!', he screamed and ran away. But as he ran, he bumped into a wall. Great. Now he was cornered.
"Now now, kiddo. I swear, I don't know how that body got there."
"Yeah, like I fucking believe that!", Nicky screamed, trying to hide the fact that he was scared out of his mind.
Springbonnie growled. But then he had an idea. "Y'know, your friends are looking for you.", he said.
Nicky's eyes widened. How did this yellow bunny know he had friends?
"Everyone's so very worried. They want to go home, they want to take you back home. I will take you to them."
Nicky hesitated for a moment.
"Don't you want to go home?"
Nicky nodded. "Yes, I do.", he said, his voice shaking.
Springbonnie held out a hand. "Hey, kid. No worries. Just take my hand and I will take you to your friends.", he said. Nicky just stared back at him in fear.
"Do you trust me?", he asked.
Just then, Springbonnie felt a big, firm, gloved hand wrap around his throat, and pull him away behind the curtains.
"Hey! What the-?! Wait! Hey! Ah! Damn it! NO! NOT MY NECK! SHIT! AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
Nicky covered his ears, trying to drown out Springbonnie screaming and begging for mercy. When he didn't hear screaming anymore, he uncovered his ears and turned to where Springbonnie was dragged. The first person who came back from behind the curtains was Mr. Peterson, a worried expression on his face.
"Did he hurt you, Nicky?"
"No, he didn't."
Theodore put a hand on Nicky's shoulder, guiding him away from the stage. "Come on, Nicky. I'll drive us all to McDonald's instead.", he said.
"What happened to the bunny?", asked Nicky.
"The bunny got tired and went to take a nap.", Mr. Peterson said with as much nonchalance as he could muster up.
The last thing that happened backstage was Springbonnie falling over, his hand stretched out and not moving.

Johnny’s sexual escapade chapters (1) are a bit grating, however, Johnny isn’t really a super reliable narrator here. There’s some stuff he says I believe, and other things I don’t. He fucks every girl he comes into contact with, to the point where a woman entering the story, it’s pretty predictable what happens next. But then again, I don’t know. If he lies about sex, wouldn’t he lie about Thumper? Is she so Godly to him, he can’t even imagine being on her level? But thats not true really, he’s had dreams about her that are the usual flair of Johnny Horny. I guess what I find is that, there is no sanctuary for Truant.
Johnny Truant openly tells us a few times he’s a liar though, he does so very casually, opening up about his fantastical stories. At the same time he can be very honest, but only to an extent. I think to protect himself. The story of his chipped tooth is dark, and yes in some ways detailed, but not as detailed as Johnny can get. (2)
Sex is something that can take your mind off of things, especially if your stress response is “I need to get laid.” Sex is a comfort (3), even if its momentary. Pleasure, women, drugs— He burried himself in this shit. To the point of access. To the point where I question his point of view.
________________________________________
1. I don’t think they’re chapters, but I don’t know what else to call them.
2. Garry Callough, “The Truth of Truant,” The New York Times, August 13th, 2003, section 23.
3. Personally I try to use sex as a way to evade my fears as well. But funnily enough I find myself often in Johnny’s shoes. I don’t think I’m as bad as he is though. I’m reading through House of Leaves at a stupid speed (i’m around 400 pages in) It’s been around 3 days since I started, I didn’t expect it to hook me so well. So needless to say I’ve kinda been lost on the sauce. A quiet treck down the stairs at night has my hair standing on end. The Navidson Record is a super cool story, but it sure does sneak up on you. It’s creepiness. Kind of like how I felt about Skinamarink, which is why I wanted to read this book. But despite trying to slip into the comfort of my boyfriend’s face. His body, especially the fantasy of it. Loose myself in a bit, so I could take comfort in the idea of his presence. I glanced over my shoulder to the black closet that stood behind me. I had a dim lamp on, I guess its light only punctured the closet’s entrance but the rest of it. Just pitch black, no wonder people think monsters live in places like that.
It had such a presence to me.
I looked away, I’m not really scared of the dark. I often feel through it in the night for a glass of water, my house is familiar to me y’know? But what if it suddenly wasn’t? I mean in some ways its changed quite a bit since I came back from college. My closet especially, mom renovated it. It looks nice but it smelled foreign for awhile. It had a unpleasant sort of sour scent. The wood was stained and hadn’t really properly dried yet, so the smell just stuck to everything including my clothes. I think my mom found the scent pleasant but it made my closet supremely more alien. So now there it is, my sour smelling closet giving me the stink eye.
No not really, it’s more akin to a hollowed out eye socket when it gets that dark.
#thoughts#house of leaves#johnny truant#the navidson record#im semi shit posting#but i like the wroting style of house of leaves lol#im being a goober sorry not sorry.#my closet really did weird me out after this book tho#5 minute closet beuh.

Mother II
Second Form/Semi-Perfect Cell x Reader
Word Count: 4,121
cw: noncon, lactation, drug/toxin use, cunnilingus, overstimulation, breastfeeding, rough sex
AO3 Version | Masterlist
Summary: AU where reader finds Cell’s egg in the woods and he’s just an alien instead of an android. (AKA my idea for Cell if he used a particular human as a surrogate ‘mother’ instead of eating people to reach his other forms). Meant to be scary/creepy so heed the tags for stuff you’re not comfy with but it is Cell after all so I hope I do it justice :D (chapters are in the same order as Cell’s forms.)
Pt. 1 | 2 | 3
18+ ONLY NSFW BELOW THE CUT
It's been a little over a month since the encounter with the alien and you had made good on your decision to sell your old house.
You had given it some time to see if you would be able to sleep normally in your room and even on the living room couch but every little noise and shadow glimpsed from the corner of your eye made you paranoid. You simply couldn't relax knowing that Cell was still out there somewhere especially after his ominous final words. You had made up a lie saying that a bear had tried to get into the house if anyone asked, even though there were no signs that anything was broken, and moved into an apartment on the outskirts of the city closer to your mother's house much to her delight.
It was over a hundred miles away from your old place but even a thousand didn't feel like it would have been enough.
You had also made the decision to buy a gun and keep it in the nightstand next to the bed at all times for a little extra security.
The changes to your body had faded by the time you had awakened that night after Cell was finished with you, all that remained was the sticky evidence of what had happened, most of the tenderness in your breasts had vanished. You had sat on the floor of the shower afterwards with the images of Cell between your legs replaying over and over and you hated that you still felt aroused just remembering it. His pale pink stare lingered behind your eyelids every time you closed your eyes and you refused to give in to any sort of urges you felt even if it meant being kept up all night with panties that were so soaked by morning you started to change them twice a day.
You had turned into a zombie on auto pilot going through the motions while your mind was still in your old bedroom feeling Cell's tongue inside you forcing you to orgasm.
You didn't know if you needed a boyfriend or a therapist more.
⛧
You jumped to your feet, startling your mom, and knocking over your tea when you felt something wet on your leg underneath the kitchen table.
"Y/n? What on earth?"
It was your scheduled monthly dinner date and you had started to space out again while she mentioned how sickly you looked for at least the tenth time since you'd walked through the door. Naked panic was on your face when you checked underneath and found that it was only her golden retriever sniffing your leg curiously now wearing the same confused expression as your mother.
You laughed it off as best you could, "I'm sorry mom, you're right, I don't feel too good. I think I'm going to go home and take a nap. I might be coming down with that bug everyone is getting at work and I don't want to make you sick."
"Oh. Okay, well call me if you want me to bring you some soup."
She didn't bother hiding her disappointment that you were already leaving but you couldn't get back in your apartment with the door locked and reunited with your gun fast enough.
You checked and made sure it was loaded before sighing and sliding under the blankets starting to thumb through your phone mindlessly. Taylor hadn't tried contacting you since that less than well executed date and you were both grateful and a little sad. He wasn't really your type but you didn't want to be alone even more than before. Partially out of fear and partially out of the unrelenting ache that stayed between your legs.
You couldn't touch yourself knowing where your mind would go if you did.
So you chose to stay miserable and unsatisfied as some sort of petty revenge against Cell even if it felt more like you were the one being punished.
⛧
It seemed that fate was giving you a second chance after all when you received a notice from your office saying that there was going to be a birthday party for your boss and everyone was invited.
If someone else ends up fucking my brains out then it's fine, right? As long as I don't have to think about Cell..
The boss' birthday party always had copious amounts of alcohol and you had known a secretary that had gotten pregnant after going to one of them. It made you confident that you would see some activity if you were determined enough.
Sure enough on the day of the party after your head was pleasantly fuzzy from the wine you were chatting up some hottie from upper management who definitely seemed interested if the way his eyes kept darting to your cleavage was any indication. You'd intentionally left the top two buttons undone on your blouse just to up the odds and it had been the right decision it seemed.
You were living on borrowed confidence and for once you didn't see Cell's reptilian gaze staring back at you from the shadows. All you could picture was having this guy's cock in your mouth and your hands threading through his immaculately trimmed lilac hair while he fucked the stress out of you. His cheeks took on a faint pink tinge when you brushed your hair back over your shoulder invitingly showing off the column of your neck.
"Do you want to go somewhere?" he asked a little shyly. It was endearing and made your chest flutter.
"Mhm," you said biting your lip in the most sexy way you could manage, "Let's go back to mine?"
"My place is ten minutes away if that's alright?"
You nodded.
That was how you ended up in his car, your hand massaging his growing erection over his pants, while you gave little nips and kisses along the side of his neck and ear. You were acting overly sexually aggressive because you were drunk, not usually one to take the lead, combined with how you hadn't so much as masturbated in over a month. You let what was happening fill your head so you didn't have to think anymore just enjoying the moment and the scent of his cologne.
You would have given him head right there if not for the short trip made even shorter by how fast he was driving.
You saw that his apartment was much nicer than your own in the brief few seconds you had to take it in before you were slammed against the door, his hard on grinding against your core tantalizingly, while he shoved his tongue in your mouth in a drunken make out session. You sighed contentedly feeling yourself getting wetter until his hand was under your skirt starting to rub at your panties.
"Bed," he said.
You only let out a soft moan in response.
No arguments here.
The two of you continued to make out while you undid the buttons of his shirt starting to move downwards, pleasantly surprised at how muscular he was underneath, placing kisses on your journey to his waistband. You had just pulled his zipper down when a noise caught your attention from overhead. You shot back upright only to find that your potential lover had fallen asleep already snoring softly.
"Hey," you said, "Wake up-"
I don't even know his name.
You slapped his chest trying to get his attention but he only groaned and threw his arm across his eyes completely out of it.
"You've got to be fucking joking."
Indeed even his hard on had gone soft leaving you in a very awkward position. You'd came here in his car which meant you would have to do the walk of shame back to the party to get your own. It was tempting to just call a cab and sleep it off at your apartment before going back but the idea of someone you knew calling and asking why your car was still at work was the least appealing. That would lead to even more awkward questions you didn't want to deal with.
You rolled off of him and stared up at the ceiling hating your life and the fact that you were still somehow left sexually frustrated despite everything playing out exactly how you wanted.
⛧
In your overly excited exit you hadn't even grabbed your coat and now you were freezing in the chilly autumn air desperately rubbing at your own arms for warmth. There were practically no cars or people around at this hour, much later than you thought, and the moon hung fat and bloated over head. It started to make your mind wander to places that it shouldn't, remembering how it had reflected in Cell's eyes from the window.
Like blood mixed with water.
You slapped your own cheeks trying to bring yourself out of the weird morbid place you were rapidly sinking into. Your failure at getting laid had put you in a shit mood and that wasn't helping.
You decided to take a shortcut through the park near the pond starting to feel a little worried about the wrong person seeing you in your skimpy outfit alone. You'd worn a near dangerously short skirt for your mission that just showed the tops of your thigh highs when you moved. It had made you feel sexy in your bedroom but now you just felt humiliated. You kicked a rock into the water with a loud splash and then stopped to grab another and another throwing them angrily into the pond.
You hoped there weren't any homeless weirdos nearby to witness your mental breakdown.
You didn't stop until you couldn't find anything else to throw, finally falling back onto your ass into the dirt, letting out a growl.
"I thought I told you not to go far, human?"
Cell's voice rang out and you scrambled to your feet, nearly falling again from how unsteady you were, wildly checking around yourself. There was no one that you could see hidden amidst the trees and the many shadows they cast. That didn't make you feel any better.
Was I imagining it?
You were starting to sober up a little, a cold sweat breaking out all over your skin, and you splashed your face with pond water trying not to think about how much rotten bread and duck shit was floating in it. It only served to cause all the things you were trying to forget to come back in full force.
Cell's stinger sliding through soft flesh.
Cell's tongue wriggling deep inside.
Cell greedily sucking at your red swollen nipples not letting a single drop go to waste.
You whimpered trying to plug the burst dam in your head feeling yourself starting to leak onto your thighs beneath your skirt.
Need to get home.
You stumble ran the rest of the way across the park, taking off your heels to move faster, and still tripping a few times along the way. You threw a nervous glance back over your shoulder every time expecting Cell to be there but each time there was nothing.
The drive home was just as tense, partially out of fear and partially because you were still too drunk for it to be considered an exactly 'legal' experience, with the added danger of your eyes being everywhere but on the road expecting to see Cell any second. Upon finally reaching your apartment building, you heaved a deep sigh of relief, nearly falling out onto the pavement. You were annoyed that you had ruined your favorite pair of stockings seeing how they both ended up with runs all over them from your little jog through the park.
It was the final stretch; you just needed to get into your apartment building and you would be home safe. Heels in hand you hobble walked as fast as you could fumbling with your keys as you went and trying not to hyperventilate.
"You've been a bad girl, haven't you?" the back of your skirt was lifted off of your bare ass cheeks thanks to the lacy thong you had elected to wear, "How should I punish you? First, you don't listen to what I tell you and then you run away from me so that I have to go out of my way to chase you. Twice now I've had to chase you."
Your foot was on the top step, you hadn't even made it to the door this time, and your ass was still uncovered presumably being inspected. That didn't last long until you felt a sharp blow connect across your buttocks making you cry out and fall to all fours. The keys slipped from your hand and hit the bottom of the door frame with a soft jingle that may as well have been your death knell.
You clumsily rolled over onto your back with the intention of kicking out in a pathetic final act of self defense but froze when you saw the monstrosity before you. Cell had gone through another metamorphosis since the last time you'd seen him and was hardly recognizable. He was much larger than before, built like a fucking refrigerator, and disturbingly more human.
He watched you while you gaped at him in open shock; his newly acquired lips twisting into a proper smirk.
Most disturbing of all was how he was hovering above the ground making him seem that much more intimidating from his elevated position over you. You noticed how his shockingly blue eyes slipped down between your legs where your skirt had ridden up giving him an unobstructed view of your panties. You slammed your legs shut and he tsked disapprovingly.
"Stay away from me," you hissed.
"Hmm. No. Also, I don't appreciate this attitude when I've gone out of my way to be reasonable with you."
"Reasonable?! You shot me up with some fucking alien aphrodisiac and all I can think about is-"
Cell's brow was furrowed, "I think there's been a misunderstanding. The effects of my venom last around two or three hours. Just long enough to complete the feeding process. Anything you've experienced since then has nothing to do with me. Unless," he grinned in the most evil way you'd ever seen, "You've been imagining me fucking you, haven't you?"
Your started to protest but your flushed face gave you away as you decided that one of the cars in the parking lot was more interesting than you making eye contact right then.
Cell began to laugh so obnoxiously loud that it nearly hurt your ears and you had to wonder why no one was looking out of their window to witness a nine foot tall bug man floating outside. Once recovered he gave you the most unnerving predatory look and you knew you were in for it, "So that's how it is. If you enjoyed my first form so much I can't wait to see how you'll react once I've attained Perfection."
You had no idea what he was talking about but he was already starting to move in closer to you sending your mind and body into conflict. Your common sense was telling you to run like hell while your pussy was already getting wetter just from the sound of his voice. Even in this repulsive form it did nothing to quell how badly you wanted him inside you again. His tail closed the distance first, lightly trailing along your calf until it reached your inner thigh and started to tease the bottom of your skirt. You couldn't help how your legs naturally parted just the tiniest bit in anticipation.
Cell noticed this and his smile got wider, "My, what a shameless little kitten you are. I've never seen prey so eager to be devoured."
The endearment sent an involuntary shudder through you.
"Just shut up and do it already," you mumbled out not really knowing what you were asking for.
Cell stopped, "Do what?"
"Fuck me," it was nearly shocking how easy it was for you to say when you'd spent the past month not even so much as allowing yourself to masturbate. You just needed to be put out of your misery already.
"No."
You blinked.
"No?"
"No," he repeated, "It isn't possible at this stage. And I think you're forgetting that you defied me twice now so I still need to punish you I'm afraid."
The familiar feeling of fear fell down into your stomach like a coin dropping into the black depths of a well. Too late you realized you'd squandered your only chance at escape, if it had ever existed at all. Cell must have noticed the panic on your face because he suddenly grabbed you in one of those too fast to follow moves of his and tucked you under his arm. You were carried upwards in a blur before being dumped into the alley next to the apartment complex.
A locked privacy fence caged you in on both ends so there was no way you were getting out if you tried to run. Not that Cell needed any extra precautions to stop you.
"Put your hands on the wall."
You hesitated and he sighed, "Do you really want to make it three times?"
You didn't - so you did as he asked.
You were trembling not just from the cold when you felt him move behind you, his massive hands going to your waist and back to bend you more to his liking. Your heart hammered like crazy when he lifted your skirt out of the way exposing your ass. You hated that you had practically gift wrapped yourself for him like this in your sluttiest skirt and panties. If only your potential fuck of the evening could handle his alcohol better you would still be sleeping off an orgasm or two.
Cell hummed appreciatively and something stroked between your legs across where your thong had ridden up between glistening lips.
He pressed his hips against your backside grinding against you suggestively, "Do you want it so badly? Such a strange little human you are getting off on something like this," his stinger was beneath your ear stroking against your pulse like before, "Did you imagine me feeding from you, too? All of this time?"
You had, although, you would never admit it out loud and never to him. You couldn't say much of anything at the moment, feeling lightheaded, it took all of your willpower to hold yourself up. Cell's hand was on your breast then and you shuddered beneath his rough touch that you had tried to replicate in moments of weakness when you were alone in bed or the shower. It was the most fucked up part of it for you. You had enjoyed the unique feeling of leaking from your tits and the pleasurable relief it had given you and this monster to drain you dry.
It was foolish how you weren't trying to fight him with how easily he could break you if he truly wanted. He settled for popping all the buttons off your blouse snaking his tail underneath and tearing it open from the inside. The sound you made was horrendously embarrassing and you tried not think about it too much when your bra met the same fate.
If this keeps happening I won't have any bras left..
Cell's stinger was at your inner thigh, nearly touching your pussy, and you gasped when he pressed in just hard enough to leave a thin scratch behind, "Do you want it inside you? Hmm?"
You wanted to say no, that was one of your most tender areas, but you only mewled in the most pathetic way while grinding into him, nearly cutting yourself deeper in the process. Cell was entertained by your eagerness; you were just as excited as you had been while under the influence of his toxin. Maybe even more so. It seemed he had chosen well for his surrogate.
Although he would have, admittedly, appreciated a little more fight than this.
Cell penetrated you and your eyes rolled back from a twisted amalgam of pain and ecstasy as those blistering waves of heat spread through your blood. It wasn't as agonizing as before, in fact, it was nearly euphoric and you wondered if it was because his venom had undergone changes just like his physical form. It made sense that he would need a different formula produced from your body for the next stage and that was why the effects from the first feeding were temporary.
"God," you whimpered. Your nipples were already starting to tingle and your breasts felt full.
"Not yet. But very soon," Cell purred next to your ear, "It's a strange thing but I'm actually looking forward to fucking you, human. You should feel honored to have my cock when the time comes."
Cell toyed with one of your nipples encouraging it to leak milk through his fingers. Or whatever weird shit he was making your body create as sustenance - you didn't fully understand it and weren't sure if you wanted to. He popped them into his mouth sucking them dry with the same insatiable hunger as before. His chest rumbled against your back as a sign he was getting more excited coupled with how he held back less in the way he handled you.
Unexpectedly, he flipped you around and looped your legs around his waist, the size difference between you having never been more apparent with you pinned against the wall.
The end of his tail came up underneath you and you felt a cold chill of fear with the sharp end so close to your cunt. You thought he may actually stick it inside you when he altered the shape of it, having more control over it's form that you originally believed, it now closely resembled a phallic shape. It was a very minimalist idea of a cock with a mushroom head and widening ridges along it's length. You wondered if it was modeled after his own.
There was no warning, no preparation, not that you needed it, when he brutally slammed it inside you ripping through your panties in the process. You threw your head back in a wild scream of blissful pain that made you forget your own name feeling a line of drool coming from the corner of your lips. Cell growled and silenced you with the most filthy kiss you had ever experienced, his wide tongue invading your smaller mouth, and you could taste your own milk. It was oddly sweet and you sought more of it sucking at the invading muscle which seemed to make Cell even more feral.
His tail rammed at you from below through the hole in your panties soaking the fabric with your juices while you flopped helplessly against him. Your breasts bounced and leaked droplets all over his chest. That seemed to remind him of his hunger so he lifted you higher and took your breast into his mouth enveloping the entire globe while he sloppily sucked never breaking the rhythm of fucking you. All you could do was ride it out, one of your hands going to the back of his head in encouragement to take from you.
Cell hummed against your skin forcing the end of his tail all the way in hitting against your cervix and bringing fresh tears to your eyes.
Heaven and hell collided in your body as you had the most blindingly painful orgasm of your life, the pleasurable contractions offset by the awful uncomfortable feeling behind your stomach of having your cervix abused at the same time. He didn't stop this time when you came, just kept fucking you through it, the sounds of your body turning wetter and louder where you were connected. It was a troubling sort of pleasure not knowing how much damage he was doing to you at the same time. You quickly understood Cell intended to make you suffer by the sadistic glint in those blue eyes and the machine like way he never slowed no matter how many times you came.
Indeed you were a broken thing by the time he dropped you back on the stairs of your apartment you were crawling unable to stand trying to find your keys with the insides of your thighs coated in what you hoped was only your cum.
"I would suggest there isn't another incident like this one. I'll find you when the time is right so be sure to wait like a good girl," Cell said from somewhere behind and above you.
By the time you turned around he was already gone.
So much for buying a gun.

“Oh 12 april is such a b••ch. she gets so much just handed to her and has two guys in love with her yet she acts so picked on and is such a player Meh meh meh”
Ahem.
Bullet points of s••t april had to deal with in 2012
•Her dad got kidnapped by aliens and she had no idea if he was ok or not for months
•this guy she just met that saved her life obviously has a crush on her but is also keeping track of her exact whereabouts, making extremely detailed plans on how to get her and him alone, is keeping weird pictures of her as his desktop wallpaper and won’t stop despite being told it’s creepy.
•She finally gets her dad back after months, only for him to be mind controlled and turn her in to aliens
•who then torture her to use her as a battery to destroy humanity.
•THEN later on her dad gets horrifically mutated into an animalistic monster that tries to kidnap her
•because of a mistake her friends made that they didn’t seemingly plan to tell her about
•she decides shes had enough of this weird s••t only to literally be forced back into it
•and have her new friends life be put in danger cause of it
•her ex friend is still stalking her despite her saying she wants to be left alone
•she then finds out she has these freaky powers because half her dna is from the aliens who kidnapped and tortured both her and her dad and has tried to kill her friends
•Now her new friend has gotten deeply involved in the weird part of her life
•and now him and the other guy crushing on her won’t stop fighting and bickering with each other over her
•Then her bestie of over a year reveals herself as an alien who was only monitoring her this whole time, rendering the entire friendship fake
•then her city gets invaded and her and her friends have to barely evade killer aliens
•her dad gets mutated AGAIN into a kraang monster
•her and her friends have to abandon their home city and friends and family to have any chance of surviving to possibly save them later
•the only place they can go is her childhood farmhouse where her mom disappeared
•one of her friends is in a THREE MONTH COMA so she has to help keep his family together during it
•while the two boys she isn’t sure how she feels about are STILL fighting each other over her, only now she can’t get away from it since they all live together
•her friend makes her a creepy music box with a picture of only him in it, still trying to pursue despite all the other going on, like HIS BROTHER REELING FROM A KNEE INJURY AND JUST GETTING OUT OF A THREE MONTH COMA
•he then tells her he’ll stop pursuing, but then basically says she’ll never love him cause he’s a mutant, making her feel awful cause she does love him, she just doesn’t know in what way and hasn’t had the chance to figure it out
•she then finds her long lost mom frozen in the basement, only for it to actually be a kraang monster made with her moms dna that tries to eat her friends, forcing april to kill something that looks and sounds like her mom
•she returns to an apocalyptic New York with her friends, only to start having nightmares of what the kraangified slaves of the kraang are currently going through, including her dad
•THEN her planet gets destroyed, killing her friends and family outside of the turtles and Casey, leaving them with the pressure of saving the whole world on their own
•she saves a planets society from its corruption and is gifted with a piece of their most valued item, only for that piece to slowly possess her and alter how she thinks
•this possession then causes her to “murder” her best friend, leaving her with the guilt and trauma
•she later loses her secondary father figure
And yet she’s ENTITLED and irrational??
Y’all can feel free to add on cause I know I forgot some stuff

Rating Every Nu Who Episode: Season 1
Rose: 8/10 because it isn't THAT memorable but was a really good reintroduction for those of us that hadn't seen Classic Who. I didn't realize the nestene consciousness was a monster from before and was very excited when I was watching the third doctor and ran into it.
The End of the World: 6/10 because it wasn't that interesting as an episode but had a couple of really great moments (Toxic as classic music, Cassandra's whole deal).
The Unquiet Dead: 7/10, mostly because I still say "In Cardiff??" all the time. Otherwise, a typically fun episode with ghost zombies, classic literature references, and the inevitable death of the one-off pretty girl.
Aliens of London/World War Three: 7/10 the Slitheen are great alright, except for the fatphobia bit they are truly ideal dw villains and this plotline is so so funny but I still care enough to worry. Lost points for everyone being a dick to Mickey. Nine is generally a little harsh but only really mean to Mickey, who was so sweet and smart and kind and deserved better than this nonsense. Harriet Jones is iconic.
Dalek: 5/10 not a particularly interesting beginning to the Daleks survived somehow trope, which in general I do enjoy.
The Long Game: 7/10 the episode itself was largely ok, and why even was Adam, but the setup was fun and it gains points for me losing my mind when we see Satellite 5 again later.
Father's Day: 5/5 none of the characters were that fun and I didn't care enough about Rose to be excited by the backstory. Plus the consequences of changing time seemed a little forced in a show defined by changing time.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances: 10/10 still one of my favorite dw episodes ever. Perfectly balanced creepiness with a happy ending. Jack shows up! There's zombies but it's ok because they get better. And I still cry at "just this once, everybody lives!"
Boom Town: 8/10 I really like the humanization (lol) of the slitheen and showing that she is a person with thoughts and feelings--but still doing bad things. Her dynamic with the Doctor is fun for showing how harsh he can be, and yet he finds a way to save her anyway. Really an ideal episode, but why is everyone so mean to Mickey?
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways: 7/10 like I said I lost my mind at the repurposed Satellite 5 and game show situation, but after that the sudden appearance of the Daleks and build-up to Rose taking in the vortex fell a little flat for me. The immortifying of Jack was great though, and is especially funny now that they have established he can't die but can never bring him back on the show. I think they should recast and blame it on timey-wimeyness.
Bonus Character Ratings:
Nine: 10/10 I love his depression grumpiness and his desperate longing for things to be ok and his short temper, he's just great.
Rose: 2/10 I really hate her, ok? She's a jerk and selfish but not in an interesting way, and people mostly (both in the show and fandom) treat her as the most idealized and relatable and perfect character.
Jackie: 10/10 I actually like the mom-dynamic when the Doctor has never had to deal with this before.
Mickey: 8/10 his character was a little flat but he was funny and deserved better.

MORE READING UPDATES OMLLLLLLL i forgor about this blog again. it will happen again tbh but i still have to go through all of the books i finished in late 2023 up to now... i'm gonna try and get as many as i can done but probably wont get all of them lol. probably very long post/rant + spoilers for various books under the cut
keep in mind i have shit memory and all of these books were finished a while ago so be warned for bad analysis and summaries
-How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu: this book was a collection of short stories that are interconnected through characters and a central storyline - a plague. i thought the concept was super interesting and i had heard really good things about it from people i share a reading taste with so i went into this expecting to be blown away and i just. wasnt. i LOVED some of the short stories and there were a few that made me cry, mainly snortorious and the robot dog story where the mom died, but other than that it was kinda a let down. the ending fucking sucked ngl. like i thought we were leading up to some profound moment, especially calling back to the chapter where people are relieving their memories in the dark, because i thought that was really compelling and interesting, but it was just fucking aliens. like it reallly feels like a cop out to me. like a whole "and it was all just a dream" type ending. im not gonna rate it actually yes i am i'd give it like 2.5-3 stars. only because some of the chapters were super hard hitting but other than that. meh.
-The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: WHOOOOO BOY. i ate this shit up. god if i had read this in middle school or high school i am 100% certain it would have become my entire personality. like i fucking get it. i totally fucking get it. i'm treating the whole series as one book rn bc they all kinda blend together in my mind and its been a while but just. the fucking vibes. good lord the vibes were so good. can't pick out any 100% certain things i particularly noticed but i will reblog every webweave about this series there is trust. rating the entire series as 5 stars mostly because i listened to the audiobook and they did SUCH A GOOD JOB ON TH E AUDIOBOOK OML like. at first i was kinda thrown off bc i wasn't expecting it to be so. southern? but once i finished the first one i knew there was no way i could just go back to reading it with a physical book like audiobook all the way the narrator was so awesome and i love the southernness of it.
-What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher: my first t. kingfisher book! i loved the vibes, the world, the whole new set of pronouns, that shit was so fun, overall a nice short and sweet creepy ass fucking book. like im a huge wimp so i was deffo nervous and freaked out at some points, especially with the rabbits lol idk why but those were unnerving. the author did a really good job of conveying the mc's anxiety and fear while also adding in some humor and soldier rationality and stoicism. lol. cute i liked it 3.5/4 stars.
-Fault Lines by Emily Itami: tbh mostly picked this one up for the cover and it was really just a standard cheating story where the mc gets back together with her original husband because of their kids. nothing i remember to be groundbreaking at all really. 2.5 stars
-Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez: I really wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. the pov changes i think were very well done and intentional and weren't confusing at all! the narrators for the audiobook were wonderful and really brought life to the story, a lovely book.
-She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan: honestly, looking back on it, i was never really captivated by this story. it took me a long time to get into it, and i really never connected with any of the characters. a lot of it was more confusing than not, and i'm honestly not sure if i feel the need to continue the series. may be a case of me not being in the right mood for it, but i don't see myself trying it again. kinda sad cuz i was excited to love this but oh well. win some lose some.
-Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr: hands down my fav book of 2023 and one of my fav books of all time. like i have a feeling this review is going to be either very long or very short because there is no way i will be able to write out all the ways i love this book. the owl motif. the environmental extremism from seymore that i can 100% relate to. the way that he fell down that path in a way that felt realistic to me, based on his circumstances, and it isn't implied in my opinion, that all autistic people are like this, that all autistic people can take things to the extreme like seymore did. the audiobook was wonderful. the interconnected stories over time i think is one of my new favorite tropes/plots/metas. if done well (cough how high we go in the dark) it gets me every single time. XENO and everything about him. i was listening to the audiobook at work and during his death i had to fight back tears lol. god. and the kids in the play and how they wanted to end the story.... fuck my life. and konstance and her curiosity and oh my god everything about this book messed me up. 5/5 i think thats all i'll be able to say before i combust.
-Chlorine by Jade Song: what a weird little book. really liked it. audiobook slayed. not much else to say. recommend for weird lesbians. 3.5/4 stars.
-A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson: THE AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR IS SO FUCKING GOOD AT HER JOB I COULD LISTEN TO HER TALK ALL DAY I THINK IM IN LOVE WITH HER. the story was really good love a good vampire story love a good creepy story. fun time. listened to the audiobook in like an hour hour and a half car ride it was a good time. 3.5 stars.
and that ends off all of the books i read in 2023 !!!!!!! YIPPEEE!!!!! i'll stop here and make a separate post for the books i've read so far in 2024 just for organizational purposes and also because i am hungry and need to stop lol. if you made it this far through the post i love you and also sorry for the long rant but also too bad because this is my blog and you clicked on it. happy reading :)
