Good morning, everyone! I managed to finish the last piece of the Lore Dump for Twisted Tonelico (the Twisted Wonderland x Ar Tonelico AU)! With this, the basic preface should help everyone know what life will be like for our Reyvateil Prefect at NRC.

This last piece of the lore dump is:

What the Heck is a Tonelico? And what does this have to with Meryu, the Reyvateil?

These are the questions I know a few of you guys wanna know. Luckily for you, the explanation is simple enough. A Tonelico… is a Tree of Life/ Tower of Life. Essentially, the towers are the Yggdrasil of the Ar Tonelico universe. In this case, they are the LITERAL source of life for all the Reyvateil in the universe. Each one is built for the three main regions that survived the calamities that nearly destroyed the planet Ar Ciel (AT’s version of Earth).

The major three Towers and the lands they reside in are:

ARTONELICO for Sol Ciel(govern by the Origin Reyvateil goddess, Eolia aka Syurelia)

SOL=MARTA ft. Infel Phira Dependant. For Metafalss (This one is govern by the Origin Goddess, Frelia)

HARVESTASYA for Sol Cluster (govern by the Origin Goddess, Tylia)

Eolia’s tower is the source of life for all Reyvateil born in Sol Ciel. This is where Meryu hails from before she is spirited away to Twisted Wonderland. So, this makes things complicated for our dear Prefect. Without a proper Tonelico, Meryu can run the risk of dying. Since she is born as Y-Sublimate- a unique type of Neo Pureblood Reyvateil- she cannot stray from the tower for too long. Prolong separation to her tower of birth can lead her physical body to fall apart and turn into bio fluid. Tldr; she’ll become a puddle of blood and/ or other bodily fluids if she’s away for too long. What also doesn’t help is that she has no form of Life Extension Supplements or Energy Crystals that can extend her life in case of emergencies.

This of course changes during her fateful night at NRC’s opening ceremony. After the chaos that ensued during Orientation, Meryu attempted to sing to the Dark mirror in hopes that the enchanted relic could recognize her home, Ar Ciel, and send her back. Instead of detecting her home and sending her back, the Dark Mirror began to glow an eerie green color like the rest of the chamber affected by Meryu’s singing. And then… the Dark Mirror says this:

“Rrha…”

“Rrha ki erra chs diasee sos ciel yor/.”

“ADDR >> enter hyzik sphilar Meryu ag chs diasee sos ciel/.”

“Ag, was yea erra chs tonelico yor”

Rough Translation: “I bless you as the Child of Divinity for the sake of this world [Twisted Wonderland].”

“Through my administrative command, enter the mind, heart, and soul of Meryu and assign her the title of Divine Child of Twisted Wonderland.”

“And I will become the Tower of Life for you forevermore.”

Yeah...The mirror started speaking Hymmnos, and basically christened itself as the tree of life for Meryu, and gave her quite the title. Despite not being a machined made device, the Dark Mirror still can act as though it is a Tonelico. As stated before, Song Magic is very powerful in AT and is the source of life just as much if not more so than the simplest of magic from TW. It has the power to change the land, oceans, and even make continents and planets in AT lore! In a twisted sense, Song Magic can also alter some if not most things in Twisted Wonderland. So in a sense, our girl kinda altered/ mutated the Dark Mirror’s coding accidentally of course into more than just a teleporter and reader of souls.

But how will this affect everyone else in said Wonderland?

Well for starters, this still gives our heroine an edge when she gets sucked into the conflicts in the story. Drawback is she needs meatshields bodyguards to protect as she concentrates her magic. Most Reyvateil (outside of a few in AT canon) aren’t skilled fighters at self-defense, so she’ll need one or more people defending her while she casts her spells. Most of the students may think she’s a sitting duck waiting to be crushed. But in reality, she’s an OP bomb waiting to let loose. [I mean seriously, she could be even more OP than the ACTUAL listed OP Mages of the world. Sorry Malleus ;;]. She’s literally singing, and anyone who sings know that it takes a lot of time and concentration to complete a song no matter the length. Thus, relying on someone to protect her while she prioritizes her song magic is necessary.

For the Overblot gang, this could be a lifesaver or hindrance at each encounter. Some may brush it off as a simple generic Unique Magic, while others mull over it effects since only a few of them and their dorm mates have witnessed her actions up close and see how it differs from theirs. And while there is one person who’d love to take her magic for a spin, it definitely won’t work the way they hope it would. And of course not many of them have any idea what exactly the Dark Mirror said to her the night of the Opening Ceremony, so finding out about down the line will be fun!

Finally, what the heck is her focus, and will she ever return to Tonelico?

For the latter part, sadly she cannot quite leave TW per say. For the former, that’s actually kinda tied to her creation. Y-Sublimates are built for Will absorption. And Wills = Gods in AT’s case. But Meryu’s creation was made less on Wills and more for… [Spoilers] Sorry! Don’t wanna ruin the surprise yet!

Back on topic, she can’t necessarily leave so long as that administrative command is in place. And wasn’t just because the Mirror demands it. The WHOLE WORLD of Twisted Wonderland commanded it. The world needs Meryu for something, and even if she was successful in her focus, removing her from the world and sending her back to Tonelico could cause her to suffer a painful death since her code has been rewritten by the planet itself. A side effect of the ‘Blessing’ she got from the Mirror.

An idea of how the mirror’s blessing altered her coding is this:

Thus, her Hymn Code becomes altered from MERYU_FEHU_EOLIA_ARTONELICO to MERYU_ANSUL_PHANTASHIA.

In addition to this, her classmates will begin to notice the effects of her magic taking a toll on her body and mind. Sure she does have her own Tonelico for her daily life at NRC. However; without the proper resources and supplements, it makes it difficult for her to sustain her body. So even if she completes her focus, she only has at least less than a year to live. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel for our Prefect though!

It’ll be sprinkled in later posts, but the guys do have her back to help her live beyond that limited year. I won’t go into depth here, but let’s just say it’ll make for some interesting dynamics for you guys to imagine.

i think revali may have invented hand held aerial archery HEAR ME OUT- (this is a long one boys)

okay. evidence one: why the fuck would a rito shoot like that. like, it makes nearly zero sense, it would be such a hindrance to their flight and their main stake is that they can be higher than you can shoot whilst still pinging you... which revali has overcome with his gale

evidence two: tulin and the concept arts. obviously rito style archery would be held in their talons. before totk came out idk if anyone had really thought about it too much, but the developers had, as you can see in concept art (from the creating a champion book). and like, its logical, powerful, and allows for peak maneuverability. also, when in flight revali (and teba) holds his bow in his talons before switching to his wings. surely its easier to keep it in your wing (obvi ignoring the effects to flight but hes doing that anyway firing the damn thing) rather than switch back and forth- unless you were taught that way, because why would you hold it elsewhere, you need it in your talons to shoot.

evidence three: we dont see any other rito do it (...kind of). throughout botw and totk, we never see another rito flying with a bow in their hands. in totk, its mostly tulin, who holds it in his talons, but in botw the big one is teba. during the medoh quest, he actually gives *link* his bow, and therefore does no shooting in the sky. teba and harth had both tried to take on medoh before, but we never see this, and while they holds their bows in their hands *on the ground,* we dont see it.

...except for aoc (uh, spoilers?). there are two times we see a rito other than revali hold their bow in their hand for aerial archery. but it is not with any rito soldiers, either during cutscenes (the bows are only on their backs) or gameplay (they swoop down, and then hand hold bows on ground. they arent seen flying at all but thats prolly for the same reasons as botw: its very hard to code that (and so they write the lore around that fact)). the first time we actually see another rito do this, we dont see it. Its teba, as he comes thru the portal, but all we see is the arrow shot, and then him freeze frame with the bow in one wing. we dont see the bow in his hand for the rest of the fight. the second time we actually see him fighting like this, it *is* in the air, but its noticeably different to revali.

hes a lot slower, it clearly takes a LOT more effort to shoot the bow, and he only pulls off one arrow at a time. its canon that revalis bow is heavier/harder to draw, and he manages to effortlessly stream arrows whilst fucking floating midair. i think teba, forever a revali fanboy, heard of how the champion mastered his own style of archery and sought to teach himself, but lacked one key thing: revalis mastery of wind.

evidence three point five: revali could easily use his powers to hold him in the air longer/slow his descent long enough for him to fire his shots. it makes sense, really. if he can use his gale to propel him, he can sit on the updraft for a hot sec, or even curve the path to carry him along while he lines up the shot. this would mean he wouldnt need to flap as much as other rito, who would obviously need to keep flying

evidence four: revalis fighting style and his needs. revali works with non rito, obviously. he needs to be able to communicate with them on the battlefield, and they wont understand the muffled chirps if he holds his string in his beak, so he needs his mouth free to speak hylian. also, revalis main tactic is fly up with gale, shoot, fall, either shoot more or use velocity and weight to knock around opponents, and then fly back up. he often needs both feet planted firmly on the ground to get a good hold of his gale, something that is harder to do if you have a bow in the way.

also, take for example the kick he delivers link in their fight (aoc). that would possibly damage the bow, or give the opponent a chance to grab his weapon, if he held it in his talons. and to switch from feet to back is a risky maneuver during freefall, and could lose precious seconds, and then when you get back in the air you need to get it off your back again. its much easier to keep the bow loosely in your wing the whole time, meaning your free to attack melee, land and rise all while not wasting a single moment getting your next shot lined up.

so yeah, i think the rito used the talon grip for aerial archery, and would often use the hand held method on the ground for a variety of reasons (more powerful shots?, easier in some situations like hunting), but revali was perhaps the first to use hand held aerial, another reason he was one of the greatest archers ever.

1) This is like THE world building element I wasn't really sure about. I've thought about it and I think like, people know about vampires and werewolves and there are still some modern day hunters but they're a minority? (In a drawing I made you can see Killer has a AHAB (all hunters are bastards) sticker lol). I really don't know yet. I think society accepting them is like out of the question lol, you lose a lot of adversity and interest doing that I think. It's also just sort of weird to me? Idk that's just not a story I'd like to read.

Maybe it's more of a 'we saw a werewolf attack in this little village outback' and people are worried and stuff but it's always out in the middle of nowhere and it's not happening to them so they don't really give it that much thought. It's the news you see horrors all the time right? Mostly they just... Don't think anyone in their college classes would even be a vampire/werewolf. Maybe there aren't that many creatures out in the city at all. Like a hiding in plain sight thing. i think that's something I like more already. It's probably not going to be a huge part of the story at all. Maybe a few mentions that can leave the characters feeling like outsiders or a little anxious but not a major plot point y'know?

2) I Imagine someone who's like twenty something and already a vampire hasn't had the best circumstances lol. He definitely was not turned with his consent, I haven't really thought of specifics yet but when Nightmare found him he was not laughing and being cute. He was closed off and depressed. Didn't talk much at all. (He's better now y'all

3) wahhh I haven't thought about that! That's a good question. I don't... Actually know how American colleges work but I think Killer would probably be in like history or english? Cross maybe in computer science? Maybe audio-visual stuff. Is that cinematography? Idk what it's called. Maybe they can be like. History of arts+cinematography so they have classes together maybe. Again this is without knowledge of how any of it works. I'll get back to you on that.

Like all the other specifics for the stories, their ages / locations / accents etc. are a bit vague on purpose. I like to leave the room for everyone’s own imagination based on what they’re familiar with. It makes things a bit fuzzy for the timeline sometimes, but I just prefer having the blurred reality instead of basing it on real places and tracking a firm timeline.

But generally, I eyeball the gap between CYE and LMT to be maybe a couple of years.

The later on in the timeline we get with the newer published parts, I’ve been thinking that Kizzy, as the oldest of the four, are now getting closer to the mid-twenties mark and maybe over. 

The age order is: Isac as the oldest (by two critical weeks🤺), then Kit, Liam’s a year younger, and then Nathan. -> Nat’s age difference to the others & the gap between the stories could technically vary +/- an extra year or so, depending on whatever length of uni you’d want to imagine.

So basically, the canon is vague and they are all twenty-ish something in CYE and LMT xx

I hope the protoframes remain relevant even after this story arc for the Drifter concludes, but I also recognize how complicated things would get with how many characters they could keep trying to make stay relevant, leading to a Konoha 13 Naruto type situation where we have too many relevant characters from Umbra & Ordis all the way to Kaya Velasco.

Your tags on that post are so me. Like I loved the weston call so much and it just. Amounted to nothing (for now caveat I guess but I dont have hope for much more lol). And even if it led into eddie’s 806 plot like it was supposed to it still wouldn’t have been great? And it would have been sooooooooo easy to, instead of zoom in on eddie’s face, have him pull out his phone and be like “hey chris. Miss you. Love you” in a text and then see chris like. Thumbs up it. Or in masks he could have been like “chris told me he isnt doing halloween” during the hen/chim convo and then they could have been like oh hes talking to you again? And eddie could have said sometimes I can get a text reply from him now. Like it did not even have to be a whole resolution of the eddie/chris plot if they preferred to drag it out for some reason still unknown to me. just some sort of movement in a direction where the audience knows where the plot is going to go and can feel hopeful about it would have been much better writing. Because honestly I think that is part of the general issue with the eddie plot right now, everyone is (fairly) annoyed and/or freaking out because going into the 8th episode of the season we have no idea if/how/when the eddie chris stuff will be addressed and quite frankly we have had two (2) scenes addressing it directly beyond the surface level in the whole season: bday party scene and confessional scene and at this point it is not enough for us as fans but also its not even enough to keep non-fandom fans engaged and anticipating eddie and chris’s reunion imo

^^^ yeah, pretty much everything you said! even if having chris on-screen is an issue right now because gavin isn't available (though, as always, i firmly maintain that they had no business doing a storyline like this in the first place if gavin's availability was in question to begin with — as it clearly was in s7, with how little he was on-screen even then), there are still a million ways to handle it better and indicate to the audience that it's at least progressing! it would still be sloppy and would suffer from being the result of an incredibly stupid storyline to begin with; but it would be better than us being six months into chris being gone with him barely talking to eddie even now, if the show is any indication on that front! frankly it's making me wonder if the writers have no clue how to actually resolve this, so they're just tossing it to the side and kinda ignoring it for all intents and purposes. which. idk what to even say about that. it just makes me so mad.

Digitalised + coloured + redesigned version of my Suiren and Vaatu sketch from two days ago, as promised!!

Coming up with Suiren’s design was a very long process of trying and failing because after you’ve drawn 9+ different versions of one character, the creativity starts to run a little dry, but I’m actually really proud of this one, she looks absolutely adorable <3

(Also yeah I did mostly just scribble Vaatu’s pattern because who has the energy to draw the all out accurately. Not me, that’s who, I’m chronically tired. People who draw him on the regular have my utmost respect. He’s still a funky little guy though :D)

Let’s see, my characters thoughts on her…Well, she’s a peppy city girl, but I also don’t see her having a huge passion for any career like her moms do. She does however like fruit sandwiches, and she also likes selling them at food stands, just sort of as a hobby. She’s probably also gotten Sandwich to start selling them at her shop. I can also see SS having a bit of a passion for dance

Her name comes from strawberry sandos, because it’s a sandwich and also because the fruit and whipped cream kind of fits with Parfait’s theme

Strawberry sandos:

I’m gonna be honest, I wish I gave her more yellows and whites, honestly the jacket was supposed to be the main source of red/pink outside of the hair, but the yellow and white I thought didn’t look good on her arm and leg things, so it ended up being more pinks. But ah well, I like her design anyways

I know the red eyes is me taking creative liberties, but it looked good with the hair, and same with the bottom red streaks. I want to try and take more liberties with these designs, make them more unique

Speaking if unique, recently I’ve been trying to expand on making different eye and mouth shapes, and while I think I’ll need to practice more, I think it looks good on Strawberry Sandwich

I gave Strawberry Sandwich her arm and leg things (I’m not really sure what they’re called) just to try and give her design a bit more flair. I think it works with her design, it’d be too plain otherwise

Also she’s supposed to be wearing shorts, I’m not sure if you can see them

I just don't like how the narrative frames him as some perfect martyr who didn't actually do anything wrong. He feels like the encapsulation of everything wrong with the end of naruto lmao. "Itachi was just doing what he had to do, isn't that so tragic for itachi" IS IT?? They act like itachi died on the cross for konoha's sins I swear to god

And then as a kabuto stan I'm mad that kabuto's arc basically just ends with itachi making everything about himself and lecturing sasuke and the audience for chapters straight and making up some dumb shit about what kabuto's arc apparently was supposed to be it makes me so mad. Itachi makes every scene he's in about himself and it pisses me off

Idk why I alwayssssssss think "ah yes. finished the hardest part! the first draft is done. smooth sailing from here!" and then two days later I'm sitting down doing rewrites trying to figure what train I'm going to jump in front of lol like I LOVEEEEE having a finished script but I hate the process of getting there. It's one of the most frustrating things I experience.
