Let’s talk about bulbils! joey makes fun of me on the reg for stealing these from all the forgotten scapes but GUYS
when garlic is done flowering, it leaves behind a small clone of the underground bulb at the top of the stalk (scape). ↓
as seen here in my one of my more popular tiktoks, with over 6 comments worldwide
this smol clone bulb is SO smol in fact, that instead of being called bulbs, they’re called bulbils. 🥹 you can plant them the same way you do a regular bulb, and doing so will even help to better accclimate your garlic to your specific growing conditions!! and doesn’t transmit soil-born disease!!! highly recommend if you want a 2-year garden project.
did i also mention that they are EDIBLE?
they are tiny bombs of garlic that you can do all kinds of fun things with without much work
toss them in salad! sprinkle em on top of pizza (my jersey trash fave!) crush em and toast them and have the best thing to dust on EVERYTHING
here i made garlic bulbil biscuits. just add them to dough as is!
common garlic is great to use for this if you grow it, but you can ALSO do this with field garlic (AKA onion grass, wild onion, allium vinneale, crow garlic). this is what i use mostly because it’s DAMN EVERYWHERE
enjoy fun knowledge and eat more garlic (future epitaph 💕)

Okay but given that you can make alcohol from just about any plant, a world built around Minecraft could have SUCH a liquor cabinet.
You’ve got your basics, the potato and wheat vodka, gin, whiskey, then rum from sugarcane or beet sugar if you’re feeling a little adventurous.
Then you’ve got the fancier things. Dandelion and melon wine, spike vodka, pumpkin liqueur, applejack. Zhuyeqing jiu and chocolate liquor if you REALLY want to go for the cool stuff.
You’ve got mead and all kinds of moonshine, everything from carrots to kelp to sawdust brandy if you live out in the Badlands. Sunflower and rose spirits, lilac wine, even milk liquor and advocaat if you want to deviate from plants a bit.
But then you’ve got the plants that don’t exist in our sphere.
Chorus liqueur, dripleaf absinthe, glowberry champagne and sweet berry wine, glow lichen beer and crème de spore blossom, golden apple cider, glistering cordial. For the truly danger-seeking, wither rose lanique.

Plant of the Day
Tuesday 2 July 2024
The walled garden at Gordon Castle, Scotland, has used Allium fistulosum (Welsh onion, bunching onion, long green onion, Japanese bunching onion, onion-leek, stone leek) as an edging plant. The leaves of this decorative 'cut and come again' onion can be used in a similar way to chives (although their flavour is stronger) while the flower shoots (which are not as pungent as onions) can be added to salads.

There are exactly two kinds of allium: disgusting, wretched, evil bulbs made of concentrated spite filled with liquid misery, and garlic
