this man is someone who rarely gets leave, and someone who rarely ever takes it either when it’s offered (he is forced to take it lmao)

i think john is so ingrained in a system that strains his own morals so bad that he doesn’t like to be out of it much.

once you have such a taste for blood, the usual comfort of life have a certain tinge to it

i think you would have mentioned it mid mission. in a gasp, swiping dust from your eyes onto to squint at the sun. half delirious and dehydrated “ever been to the beach, captain?”

and he smiles softly. looking perfectly content in all black with the sun beating down on you all. “why?”

it’s said with a soft drawl that has your heart flipping and hands sweating.

“uhh i don’t know. just wondering. thought maybe a team date at the beach would help with bonding?” and you say it like a question, the confidence that you had to line up a shot or take a man down to the ground with a jump and the force of your legs, never quite correlated with talking to price (it never would)

and like you did in early training runs and drills, and under the scream and spittle of your many older male superiors, you dropped it. gave it up. “you know- forget it-“ you start but his deep british lilt had your words fracturing into silence.

“sounds like a good plan. you have quite the knack for team bonding.” he teased

your body flushed with heat, a thousand times the sun deep in the balm of the desert around you. it was a joke. you had never been subtle about the lack of connection you felt between your teammates and many games that usually started with ‘what’s your favourite colour’ were not uncommon to be lead by you

and you forgot about it. not really. but truly you had thought it a joke. him agreeing.

but when you were laying across your couch on leave, bored as all hell, mind buzzing, lower lip worrying between your teeth, he called you.

called you for the first time ever. his voice awash in your ears, a thousand times more pleasant than the ocean as he told you to “get your swim suit private and head down to the blum in’ beach.”

the beach trip

this man immediately complimenting you. even if you’re wearing a cover up. or your clothes are completely on over your bathing suit

with his uncannily good instincts he notices how you can’t even look at his eyes, even avoiding him entirely. facing the side of sand beside him as you spoke.

it was hard not to. he was in simple black swim trunks, all the broad shoulders, muscled and soft curves was ripe to your sight

and he was smirking at you. his stupid bucket hat still on, but now finally matching the setting around him

his hands on his hips instead of on the neck of his vest like you were used to when he was looking over you

you have to chase this man down to put sunscreen on him (we have seen the lovely amount of freckles ofc)

100% picks you up and puts you deeper in the water when you refuse to go past the water sloshing at your hip bones. no matter your sharp gasp and grip, he will dunk you at least once

absolutely is down for any sport on the beach okay- football, ultimate frisbee, a plain game of catch, everything. but especially beach volleyball

and because gaz is a snitch this man knows you played in high school, so he offers you first serve to “see your moves” and “how you set the pace, love”

it’s canon you absolutely obliterate him on every round. every. single. one. and you’re so humble about it

meanwhile soap is losing it, literally slapping at your shoulder and treating you like a god when you spike another hit directly on their space of sand. his scottish yells drowning your ears

and every new round, when you hand price ‘his ass to him ‘- he gets hotter. from exertion or something else, he will never tell

1000% is the person to tell you to ‘c’mere’ then quickly rub some sunscreen on the bridge of your nose and the soft highs of your cheekbones

he spends the entire time holding his breath instinctually. his lungs strained when he saw your features up so close. he counted every scar and mark, every dip in your smile and the butterflies that bloomed from your soft exhale of warm breath on the inside of his wrist, as the pads of his thumbs trace along the seam of your cheeks

you end up staying till sunset

he brings a cooler with his own ‘prissy beer’ as gaz says. but you make him drink many fun coloured sweet drinks that would be characterized as alcoholic popsicles. all of them in chimed glass bottles and unnaturally bright colours (he downs five)

price loves how your filter dissolved with the alcohol and that you apologized for everything, even if it was just walking alongside them

hours later he spends at home, wondering why he can’t stop thinking of you. the burning image of sand slipping past your fingers, the wind carrying tiny grains along your stretched leg, a soft and true smile carved on your face. every part i grace in his chest. it was a small smile. but private, almost secret, sincere. it made his heart flip and ache. both at once, always the case with you

places you in shade and makes you drink water and rest when you almost get heat exhaustion and get all cranky and weak :,)

brought a nice fluffy towel but shared your barbie one ‘for the principle’

saw you laying in the sun and thought you were tanning, but soap was kind enough to point out “nah she’s just not used to feeling the sun. you know, with her hermit habits..” that got him a kick to the shin and a rumbling chuckle from price that had your eyelashes fluttering along with your stomach

you guys building a sand castle because you strayed from the group and found him in his and i quote “old man time”. smoking a cigar perched on a beach chair, a ripe sunburn on his chest that had you sighing and wincing at once. hands itching to take out some aloe and help ease the burn, but he didn’t even flinch

he just sees you drop off your stuff and head to the shallows with a tiny orange bucket and he just kinda follows you. watches for a moment before he feels pulled to trudge through the warm sand towards you

at first only making short and direct comments on your sandcastle architecture whilst taking puffs of his cigar

loving the burn of sweetness in his chest it gave him. it was nearly the same feeling when you laughed mid recom mission in the Arctic. it had been the first time he ever heard you truly laugh. he never forgot it. the hue. the pitch. he remembered he stopped shaking, as if his brain was in too much shock at the beauty of the sound to realize he was freezing. as in that moment he had never felt so warm in his life.

but after you huff and tell him to ‘do it himself’ he folds and basically throws the stub out (you make him throw it out properly after istg) and this 37 year old, 6’2 unit, gets on his bad knees to help you form the damp sand monstrosity

and after a genuine hour of hushed focus and teamwork

“looks like an evil dwelling.” you say it seriously. your hand poised on your chin, eyes catching ever smoothed edge and exaggerated curve and dip on the soft structure

prices lips twitched. “that right?”

“mhm.”

and he took a minute. fingers drawing a moat along the side of the castle that had your teeth biting into your lower lip slightly. “why work so hard on something just for it to wash away?” he asked, eyes on the separating sand drawn from his touch

it’s not about the sand castle. you know that. but this was surely something you should be asking instead and having him reassure you about

“was the work purposeful?” your voice as strong as the setting sun behind you

he nodded. his eyes a bright blue in the bright peach rays of the setting sun. the light catching onto strands of his beard, and framing his mouth in gold

then maybe it washing away was apart of the job. the end of it. we just didn’t know it.”

and he holds your gaze, noting the glaze in your eyes. the sheen.

sometimes he forgot how young you were. but with your hands next to his and covered in sand, knees knocked and pricked with bruises, hair up and secured with a scarf, you looked painfully young.

too young to know the pain of all your hard work washing away. again and again.

and he’s speaking before he’s even thinking

“i’d build a thousand sand castles with you.” he rasped.

you smiled, bright and beautiful. unrestrained. “yeah?”

“mhm.” he mocked.

and you shuffled closer, just a little scoot of your knees in but it has his breath catching hard

“and i’d wait for them to wash away. and truly only be excited, because we could start anew.”

I mentioned in a reblog thing that I'd wanted to make a Rise comic series called "ROTTMNT: UNPAUSED" and I hinted to one of the finale episodes being called "Mikey's Birthday Bash"

Well I'm gonna infodump about that now...

So basically the episode started off with Mikey waking everyone up for a special breakfast to celebrate his bday, only to discover that not only did his brothers forget his bday, they all made plans of their own. To quickly make up for it, the guys take him into the Hidden City for a quick shopping spree before they all have to leave for their engagements. While Mikey is looking for something to buy, he overhears his brothers conversing about how in the next year, Raph won't be a TEENAGE mutant ninja turtle anymore (he is 17 currently). Donnie adds that he is already looking for colleges to join and hopes for an early admission. Leo also admits he has been planning for the future. Mikey realizes that his brothers are all planning to leave and grow up, which he is not ready for. He runs away crying, and meets a strange old hag who sells him a "special" birthday candle, which she promises will grant his biggest birthday wish.

Mikey finds his bros again and uses the candle on a meager cupcake they got for him. As soon as he blows the candle out, the four are transported into a version of the Battle Nexus, trapped there along with every other character from the show (and my comics) by the hag who sold Mikey the candle. She reveals that Mikey's wish was for "everyone to spend my birthday together", and the only way for them to escape is for the turtles to win the tournament! The bros are furious at Mikey for making the wish, and Mikey promises to get through the games as quickly as possible so they can get back to their plans and leave.

The hag states that the turtles will be pitted against their previous enemies, and with each round they win they'll will receive more allies. Anyone KO’d will be eliminated from the round and sent to watch in the audience, and upon the ending of the game all contestants will be returned to their last location. The enemies will get progressively more challenging until they defeat all of their opponents.

Round 1, April is with the guys, and they are up against Baxter Stockboy, Albearto, and the Purple Dragons.

Round 2, the Casey Joneses join the fight against the Foot Clan.

Round 3, Draxum, Splinter, Big Mama, and the two missing siblings hinted at by the writers join against the evil league of mutants and the Mud Dogs. April is KO’d after getting slammed into a wall and knocked unconscious by Heinous Green. Cass is KO’d by Hypno after he hypnotizes her to knock herself unconscious as well. Draxum is KO’d by Meat Sweats after he steals his power.

Round 4, Several characters (such as Agent Bishop and Mona Lisa) join to fight against the Triceratons (which were introduced in my series). During this round, everyone is K.O.'d except the turtles. However, Mikey sees that he didn’t finish the battles in time and his brothers have missed their appointments. He feels guilty, and his brothers are admittedly irritated.

Round 5, the final boss battle. They are pitted against the Shredder and the Kraang. Before the fight begins, Mikey has a blowout with his brothers and finally admits that he was angry they were gonna leave because he was scared of growing up, as he is not ready to be an adult yet and he doesn’t want to be alone. The Kraang interrupts stating “I can help you with that” and captures Mikey. However, the Turtles get one last team member… Karai. The Shredder -- having been defeated and Oroku Saki redeemed -- turns against the Kraang and sides with the Turtles and his daughter. The boys defeat the Kraang using the special formula from the movie, but not before the Shredder and Karai are K.O.'D by the Kraang. The Kraang are defeated with the last of the mixture, but to the boys' horror they see that Mikey was kraangified, and now have to fight against him as their last opponent. They try, but are unable to defeat him due to his increased strength AND his ninpo. Leo refuses to admit defeat, saying “Mikey never gave up on me… I can’t give up on him.” He tries one last attack, grappling with Mikey and holding him down...

I happened to make sketches of what came next...

The game finished, everyone is returned home. Mikey apologizes for everything, but Raph admits that he isn’t ready to grow up yet either, and he never wants to leave Mikey alone. He found out the hard way what that felt like, and the brothers agree to wait a little longer to grow up and enjoy being the teenage mutant ninja turtles while they can. Back at the lair, everyone bursts in to make sure Mikey is okay. They spend the rest of the day with him, enjoying his birthday...

Sonic Superstars

A new teaser was shown promoting the new Sonic Superstars and LEGO collaboration, featuring LEGO Eggman as a pre-order bonus.

Following the presentation, SEGA dropped new renders and descriptions for all the characters featured in the upcoming game.

Trip: Not much is known yet about Trip, the mysterious girl first encountered by Fang on the Northstar Islands. While a bit clumsy, Trip is heavily armored and has been enlisted by Fang and Dr. Eggman to protect and guide them around the wonders of this uncharted region.

Fang the Hunter (formerly Fang the Sniper): Fang is a springy jerboa that is light on his feet and is always looking for the next big score. A bounty hunter by trade, Fang the Hunter has been known by many different names over the years, likely due to his “WANTED” status with the authorities. Always trying to stay one step ahead, he’s constantly modifying and upgrading his primary mode of transportation, the Marvelous Queen.

A new Classic Super Sonic skin will be joining SEGA HARDlight's flagship titles Speed Battle and Dash soon.

To coincide with the release of the 2nd season of Sonic Prime, characters from Prime will be playable in Dash, including Boscage Sonic, Rusty Rose, and Tails Nine.

Sonic has officially announced a collaboration with the popular shoe brand Crocs. As reported back in late May: it's available in adult and kids sizes, for $49.99 USD and $44.99 USD respectively. SEGA officially previewed the Death Egg Robot set, now scheduled for a release in August.

As reported, the upcoming Samba De Amigo: Party Central will be featuring the world's famous hedgehog as a guest character.

What I Had Expected: Protagonist with an inexplicable wardrobe who probably had Feelings™ once before Tragedy Struck

What I Got: what the fuck is his body even made of and why do his death threats start to sound cute after awhile? Also, I didn’t sign up for dead puppies but then again neither did Heero so I guess we’re both wrecked

Character Rating: 4/5, docked a point because he wasted a perfectly good pineapple

Relena

What I Had Expected: Naive Good Girl teaches the Protagonist the meaning of love and life

What I Got: Barbie Princess who will rule the world with pacifism and has questionable taste in men so we always know she’s only human

Character Rating: 10/5, best character development in the series and also Gotta Love Pink

What I Had Expected: fun, lovable character that will teach Heero the Power of Friendship and will die horribly mid-series

What I Got: fun, lovable character that teaches Heero the Power of Friendship who Survives™ at the heavy cost of being bashed (physically or verbally) by pretty much every other major character

What I Had Expected: the Quiet One whose every utterance has deep meaning

What I Got: Clown animal whisperer who has a lot of skills that are in no way related to his background of mercenary work. Also, he’s the iconic disaster gay because he’s Extra and yet has perpetual RBF

What I Had Expected: the sweet character that goes through some Dark Stuff, mentally breaks down and then commits war crimes

What I Got: well well well, what do you know...

Character Rating: 5/5 for effort, but 4/5 for the Zero System effort

What I Had Expected: chill but still practically a stereotype that drops valuable life advice when the Protagonist needs it

What I Got: zero chill hyena-terrorizer with a dash of misogyny so that I can never relax when he’s on-screen whose sole profession seems to either be trying (and failing) to kill Treize or passive-aggressively calling his allies stupid

Character Rating: 3/5, would have been better if he’d gotten his ass kicked by at least one of the women. if he were real we would be frenemies

Treize

What I Had Expected: narcissistic asshole master strategist whose goal is either Power or Chaos

What I Got: almost all of that except his goal was Peace and I spit up blood just thinking about how far his head was shoved up his ass

Zechs

What I Had Expected: conflicted anti-hero who started as a villain in the beginning but eventually joins the protagonist’s side

What I Got: the exact opposite of that holy shit

it's two in the morning and there's thought i cannot keep away. okay, so, imagine, imagine fancer (fangirl x fencer).

(a tad bit of lorzanna sprinkled in here!)

there's her, the fangirl without a name. an unknown instigator of hurt and chaos, of calculated misunderstandings that are for one purpose, one boy she is wholly and horribly obsessed with. she crafts dolls and merch and she brings in money for the kingdom- she makes him happy, she'll assume, from afar, with her fellow devotees by her side. her name does not matter, has not mattered for a long time.

and there's Suzanna Winchester, who you can take everything from, rip it from her clenched hands ready to pounce. you can take it all, except her name. she'll fight you for it, with a lean figure and a gracefulness that manages to be both taught and innate because fencers are meant to be graceful, fencers are light and delicate and everything her brittle personality is not but she is what a fencer is. Somehow. she will not allow you to steal the title that has decided her future, it's the name on her jacket and the name that's called a prodigy. an expected legend. a Winchester.

they meet, some way or another. in the café from complaints, bumping into each other at the birthday bash, some way they always end up together. they've always been aware of each other's existence. and it's not good, mostly.

Suzanna considers the fangirl below her, considers her a blight with eyes that are far too inquisitive yet hold a hollowness to them, like forever considering options at the end of the world, and the girl is annoying. she's embarrassing, almost, with her proudness to display herself. what will her parents think? is a question that arises more than once, as she watches her and the rest of her gang.

The fangirl is wary of Suzanna at first, when she sees her paying too much attention to her fanclub, but is later soothed by the fact that she's smitten by Blaine's brother. in love with him, she can tell and the girl pictures an ally. a true ally, one she can stand besides, one she can fall asleep next to. one that will stay without a second meaning.

(the fangirl does not seek an ally, she knows, deep down, she seeks a friend- but friends are a dangerous term. a back-stabbing, bitchy, fake term. popular girls have friends, they throw birthday parties and dance to the harp and they're just shallow. they don't have the raw, putrid, eternal devotion like she does. they can't understand what it means to have a purpose to follow.)

it's upsetting, of course, that Suzanna spits so many horrible things about the prince. about the fangirl's beloved. but, it's preferable that way because Suzanna, with her unblemished skin and her crisp jackets and her hair that's the exact shade of the prettiest sky, is better off hating him. she could get him, if she wanted to, most definitely. could snag him with her fencing prowess, somehow, even if the effect would melt away sooner or later (because she's not his type; he likes softer girls, less competitive, nicer, a girl who'll appreciate him, not snarky like Suzanna can be. not clever like Suzanna is.)

Suzanna doesn't know what anything really means- why she waits outside the fangirl's door when she's ill, why her prospects drift slowly, steadily, why she kissed her before Lance's birthday bash.

what they have is many things, all at once. sweet strawberry chapstick and ramblings, concerning or otherwise, and a girl who's never had anybody who made her listen. it's company in the quiet times and the loud, Suzanna sticks by the fangirl every time an event comes up and she just has to be there, apparently. her schedule be damned.

(she always makes it, despite her dubiousness. despite how gritty it makes her feel that the fangirl will always love a man that will never love her back. will never even meet her, let alone like her. it's just bitter, uncomfortable, to think about, that's all. it's not like Suzanna actually cares that much.)

it's a disaster in the making. a rotting heart and a rotting brain. Suzanna hates the fundamentals about the girl but she somehow got attached, somehow began to get used to staying by her side. it became a comfort, almost, to relish in what they have.

and, what they have: it's all patchwork, sewed together pieces of their past that connect them. it's so much to one of them, and it's not important to the other, assuming it to only be a distraction, thinking it was not real because it's with a girl.

It'd be cheating, she told to a pigtailed ginger, like it was obvious, like it was just a joke, if it was a guy. this is Suzanna.

it's the frustration brewing inside of Suzanna because the fangirl is talented; she can make bracelets and dolls and knows how to iron words onto shirts. and Suzanna can't stop seeing it, everywhere and anyway.

she never realizes it, too prickly and too stubborn and seeing the fangirl as someone to be protected and indulged after a few moments of huffing, but she's always the one giving. always the one left with an aching, yearning heart that she doesn't understand.

she wants more, wants something legitimate and touchable. but she will never realize it.

the fangirl will never think it really matters, not until it's gone. maybe she'll never know what it meant, just that she liked having somebody love her. and she liked that person being Suzanna.

it brings a security to both of them. a curse to loneliness. kisses between meet 'n greets. ravings about the plaid kingdom's princes in the middle of the afternoon before Suzanna's practice.

maybe, Suzanna meets a worthy opponent with lavenders growing around her and she spends thirty minutes telling the fangirl all about it. maybe, she'll see Lorena show up, loud and there in her presence, sunshine clinging to her skin, and her heart will twist in her chest. she'll see Lance, and her heart will drop. fury, passion.

Lorena hugs her, in front of everybody, in front of Lance. Suzy, she says her name, excitement dripping off of every word, that was great, Suzy. Can you do it again, Suzy? Can we do it together?

Suzanna will share each story with the fangirl. each story, the fangirl will change the subject, will divert and divulge endlessly, will ask questions for topics she's never even inquired about before.

they'll look into the stars, the time late, the two hopelessly lost, and Suzanna will dirty her skirt in the grass, sitting next to the fangirl, who thinks about how the contrast between the white stars and the black night reminds her of piano keys.

a different while later, Suzanna will meet her for the last time in a while. they'll be a lot on her mind, thoughts that don't make any amount of sense to her.

but she, Suzanna Winchester- a name that's been held in admiration and jealousy and now is disgraced by her parents, will spend these precious moments with the nameless fangirl.

it's been different, recently. everything has been.

but this, this is the normalcy she needs right about now, even if there's a feral glint in the dark eyes she once knew. even if there's an empty place in her heart where the guarded care (not love, not love) for the girl usually swells until she's choking.

(even if she can't stop thinking about that brash, foolish princess with tears down her cheeks.)

she shakes the girl's hand and realizes how they've gotten tougher. "military, huh?" she asks, m and there's that tone in her voice she gets whenever she's insinuating about Lance.

and Suzanna's gaze flickers to her lips and she's conflicted. on her feelings. on her future.

on what this was all for.

who, this was all for.

"yeah," she agrees, fastly. she looks away. a Winchester at heart, she's always been, graceful and pristine. but now, now she stumbles during training and finds herself wondering.

she's deployed the next day. the fangirl gets rejected by the prince she never truly loved.
