To begin, to make this easy let us establish this Dragon Slayer is an alpha. If you did not know you might suspect he was a beta with how he is so careless and goofy. Not your stereotypical stern tough guy alpha.

Natsu doesn’t care if you see him as an alpha or not, and he doesn’t care if someone doesn’t believe he’s an alpha. His status as a dragon slayer and member of Fairy Tail is his pride not something decided by birth or gender. Gender, who cares about that, are you strong or funny or nice? Thus goes his priorities.

So needless to say he’s not really into the whole, he has to court you by rules xyz due to his secondary gender. He’s going to court you how he believes a dragon slayer and guild member (because you will be adopted into Fairy Tale if you're not in it already) should be treated.

It might have taken him a long while to realize he wants to court you though. At first he just knew he liked being around you, and isn’t that enough? Spending life going on adventures and laughing together are most important to him. 

Once or twice he feels like frowning or growling when he sees someone get really close to you. Not just proximity wise because he too is a skinship with all the friends kind of person. But seeing someone attempt to get close to you romantically or emotionally and nudge him aside and out of frame? He doesn’t understand why but it burns him up inside.

I hate to say it but he tries to train it off, or just cling onto you and insist on starting a job right now. No he hasn’t picked one and yes it might be midnight but it's the perfect time to start a quest! No really-

He may go and confide in Master or Mira Jane. He knows he may get teased for it but he can’t figure these emotions out, and it's imperative to him to know because it's becoming stronger. His anger (its jealousy), his thoughts about you, why your scent is smelling sweeter and sweeter to him, all of it.

Bless this poor boy's soul because he really couldn’t figure out why he was “hungry” when he smelled your scent. He thought he needed to eat more food or fire because we don't eat friends. Thankfully they explained it's a physical and emotional longing to be closer with you.

This was not his first birds-and-bees talk but it was the one that made him realize he wanted you, and without them having to say more Natsu realized he wanted you as his mate.

Thankfully he does know from seeing others do it, although he thought it stupid at the time, the basics on how to court someone

His heart cannot take this he's so jittery and happy as he bounds up to you, if it's night time he may have broken in but that's okay! To hand you some hand picked flowers and a snack. He’s pretty forward about this, not subtle on starting the courting process. 

“Why? Because I want you to be my mate partner too of course!” Queue big happy grin

Lucy has helped him go shopping several times for you, blankets for your now shared nest. Food gifts galore.

No seriously everywhere you go, and you go to all places together now unless you ask for some space. He gets you food.

You looked away for two seconds and he disappeared. Don't worry he’ll be back in ten minutes with something scrumptious for you. 

If he has to go on a mission without you, or if you decide to take some time to yourself, expect a small little sweet or scone to be placed on your desk or in your hands. They are often a shade of pink, or dragon themed so you’d think of him.

Not huge on you wearing his clothes, with the exception of his scarf. He adores seeing you in it before he started courting you because he hadn’t realized yet, now he is obsessed wrapping it around you both as you cuddle. Or do anything for that matter.

Natsu did realize it's not practical while walking only after clotheslining you once…or twice…

He is super attentive to your needs, perhaps not romantically, but he knows you’re hungry before you do. 

Shivering? Not around him he knew to warm you before you knew you were chilled.

Tired, and he somehow has drafted you for a cuddle and nap session or has told the other guild members to go away so you can nest in a corner where he can keep an eye and make sure you are safe

Guild member pissed you off, he’s already squaring up to fight with you

You are feeling needy? He's right there giving you a hug

It all stems from his fighting experience funnily enough. He’s gotten really really good at reading body language because of it and he has yours down to an art form.

Natsu is strong and independent despite his love of skinship and kinship. However he will always be longing to be just a little bit closer to you and his gifts sometimes reflect as much.

Never in his life before would he have wanted to buy a massage, but here he is getting vouchers for couples massages. He heard about it from Elfman and it was a lightbulb moment.

Matching funny hats at the amusement park

Small little quirky dates to places to do things together, like making matching earrings. Or a food tour of a town together, quality time is his utmost number one gift and treasure. It's the best thing you can give him too, volunteer to spend time together and he is over the moon.

This goes without saying but Natsu is above all else, protective. You are strong or weak, it doesn't change this, he will fight god and anyone who looks down on you or tries to hurt you. Even if it's a guildmate in a pre ordained face off, someone will need to hold him back. You are too precious to him to risk losing, so please stay by his side forever.

As Japan celebrates Emperor Hinata Goro, civil unrest from the Beta population disrupts the event with violence. This was requested on AO3 by Oddxddiams.

I have to be honest, this request was a bit unexpected, mainly because I'm not exactly involved in the A/B/O trope and kinda forgot that it existed.

As for my opinions on Lalu, I love it! I think that Laxus and Lucy had a lot of potential to be at least good friends. I have a soft spot for rare ships and crack ships. I totally ship them and love to read fanfics about them. I especially love to read fanfics that depict Laxus' soft side. I also adore fanfics that show Laxus being protective because I honestly wholeheartedly believe Laxus would be the protective type of boyfriend.

On to the oneshot.

I don't have much experience with A/B/O fics (I think I've only read three fics with the trope and I've never written anything involving it), but I did research into it, and I did the best I could while staying away from aspects of this trope that make me uncomfortable. I wasn't sure how to fit A/B/O into the canon world of Fairy Tail, so I decided to go with a High School AU instead. This means that instead of Team Natsu abusing Lucy per se, they more bully her.

Leave Her Alone (Alpha!Laxus x Omega!Lucy)

Lucy Heartfilia approached the large high school cautiously. She didn't want to stop being homeschooled. She didn't want to begin public school. She didn't want to attend this high school. She had heard about Fairy Tail High. It was a high school that was notorious for having alphas that horribly picked on omegas.

Lucy, being an omega, had begged her father to not make her attend Fairy Tail High, but he was adamant in his decision. So, here she was, walking into the school where she was bound to be picked on. She was relieved, though, that her father agreed to let her get pills that would suppress her heats. Despite that, since she didn't want to draw much attention to herself, she decided to wear a simple white turtleneck and a pair of plain skinny jeans.

Lucy walked towards the office and knocked on the door. When the door opened she saw a very pretty, white-haired young woman that was probably her age or a little bit older. The young woman was dressed in a beautiful yellow dress that reach her knees and showed off her large bust. Her foresty scent told Lucy that she was a beta. The young woman gave a wide smile and greeted Lucy, "hello! You must be the new student! Come on in and I'll get you your schedule." A small smile made its way onto Lucy's face as she walked in and sat in the chair that was in front of the office's desk.

The white-haired woman sat in the swivel chair on the other side of the desk. "I'm Mirajane, by the way, but you can call me Mira." Lucy nodded in acknowledgment of the introduction and watched as the young woman turned her attention to the computer on top of the desk and questioned the other teenager, "could I please get your name?" Lucy hesitated for a few seconds before answering, "Lucy Heartfilia." She cringed a little at how she sounded. She had tried to sound confident but ended up sounding meek than anything.

Mira typed in the name she was given and, after scanning the information that came up, gave Lucy a pitiful look. She spoke with a sympathetic tone in her voice, "you're an omega, huh? I thought so from your pleasant scent. I won't lie to you, omegas don't exactly have it easy here. The alphas tend to be real jerks. Not all of them, of course, but there are quite a few." Lucy nodded, already knowing this. Mira printed off the teenager's schedule and, as she picked it up off the printer, continued to speak in a soft tone, "my advice is to stay clear of a group of alphas that call themselves 'Team Natsu.' They are the worst. Their names are Erza, Natsu, and Gray. Natsu is the ringleader. Also, stay close to betas, many of them stick up for the omegas. It's better to let someone who stands more of a chance against alphas stand up to them rather than face them yourself."

Lucy accepted the schedule. She stood and thanked Mira before leaving the office. She looked at the paper and read that her first class was History. Upon hearing the school bell ring, telling the students that it's time to make their way to their first class, she began walking around, trying to locate the classroom but found that she couldn't find it. She finally approached a small blue-haired girl who had closed her locker and had taken a few steps towards her class. Lucy touched the teenage girl's shoulder, immediately noticing the sweet and flowery scent that indicated she was a fellow omega. When the small young woman turned around, Lucy said, "I can't find my first class." The other student smiled brightly, responding with just as much brightness in her voice, "hi! I'm Levy. You must be the new girl I heard was coming." Lucy nodded. Levy then reached out for Lucy's schedule. "Let me see what your first class is." Lucy handed over the piece of paper.

She watched as Levy's face lit up once she saw the first class. She looked up and informed Lucy, "you and I have the same class. Come on, follow me." Lucy smiled and the smaller student. It appears that I've finally found a friend. She thought to herself. As the two women walked to their first class, Levy asked, "what's your name?" Lucy answered with more confidence and happiness than earlier, "I'm Lucy." The two students walked into an open door and a classroom. Lucy was about to take a seat at the front, but Levy quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her away. She was rushed to the very back and pushed into the seat of an empty desk. She watched her new friend sit at the desk next to her, giving a confused look. She soon put her confusion into words as more students began to come into the classroom. "What was that about?" Levy gave a small smile and answered, "I could tell from your scent that you're an omega. I am too. It's best to sit in the back." Lucy furrowed her brows at that.

She hated the hierarchy of this world with alphas on top as superior beings and omegas on the bottom as nothing more than baby-makers, it honestly surprised her that omegas were allowed to attend school. She sat back in her seat and watched as the students took their seats as the bell rang for a second time and the teacher stood in front of the class. The teacher soon spoke, "Good day, students. I am Mr. Macao Conbolt. The reason I am introducing myself is that we have a new student." He then looked toward Lucy and motioned for her to stand and asked her to introduce herself. She stood and waved at her classmates. She straightened her back and tried to appear as though she wasn't scared of any of the alphas in the class. "I'm Lucy Heartfilia. It's nice to meet all of you." She then sat back down, releasing a silent sigh as the teacher began the lesson.

Throughout the class, Lucy felt eyes on her. She looked towards the other side of the classroom. She saw a red-haired woman and two men, one with black hair and the other with pink hair, whispering to each other as they gave her scathing glares. She looked back at the teacher, trying with difficulty to ignore the trio.

After the class ended, Lucy got directions from Levy to her next class. Just as she started walking away, Levy grabbed her arm and spoke in a low voice, "remember to sit in the back of the class. Team Natsu has that class with you. Have you heard of Team Natsu?" Lucy nodded. She waited for Levy to release her arm and made her way to her second class. She quickly entered the classroom and spotted an empty desk at the back of the room. She walked quickly to the seat when suddenly she was knocked down to the floor by someone bumping harshly into her. Lucy grunted as she sat up, rubbing a spot on her side that she knew would bruise a little tomorrow.

A deep voice spoke as a hand reached towards her, "sorry for that. Bix is an ass." Lucy gripped the large hand and was easily pulled to her feet. "It's alright." She looked up at a handsome blonde man. Because of his musky scent, she knew he was an alpha. What caught Lucy's attention was the lightning bolt-shaped scar running over his right eye. She wondered what happened. The alpha looked her over, asking, "you're not hurt, right?" Lucy shook her head, answering quickly, "no, no, I'm fine. Thank you for helping me up." She then made her way to the empty desk she had been aiming for and sat down.

As the students came into the room, Lucy introduced herself, and the class began, Lucy once again felt like she was being stared at. She shifted her brown eyes to a trio of familiar students. She looked back to the front of the classroom as Mr. Gildarts continued to ramble on about the coordinate plane. Lucy was suddenly hit in the head with a balled-up piece of paper. She looked down at it and looked up at who she knew was the infamous Team Natsu. She saw them giving her hateful looks. She picked up the piece of paper, unballed it, and read the writing. She frowned and willed herself to not crumple the paper back up and throw it back at the three alphas as rage began to build up inside of her. 'Go back home, fucking knot-hole was what it said in chicken scratch handwriting.

From a sudden burst of anger-filled confidence, Lucy crumpled the paper, looked straight at the trio, and spoke loudly, "Natsu, Erza, Gray, stop passing me notes. I'm may be an omega, but I'm not some slut. I'm not interested in an orgy with you." The three alphas' facial expressions changed into a mixture of embarrassment and fury. Lucy gave them a smirk. Several students tried to suppress their laughter, others made no such effort.

Mr. Gildarts interrupted the laughter and glaring with a stern tone, "Scarlett, Dragneel, Fullbuster! A week of detention for passing notes during class and harassing Heartfilia!" He then got the class to calm down and continued with the lesson. Lucy was taking notes when she heard someone subtly clear their throat. She glanced up at the blonde alpha that she had bumped into earlier to see that he was giving her a humorous smirk and a thumbs up. Lucy gave him a small smile as a light shade of pink dusted her cheeks. She turned her attention back to her notes.

By the time the class ended, Lucy had realized what she had done and was sure that Team Natsu would be targeting her now. What would she tell her father? She had a feeling that she wouldn't survive the rest of this semester. So much for the advice that Mira gave me. Lucy walked along a wall of lockers, trying to find her next class. Unfortunately, she couldn't ask anybody because the hallway was empty due to 3rd period had already started. She was so focused on locating her third class, that she didn't notice the three pairs of footsteps following her.

She was suddenly pushed against the lockers. Her arms were pinned behind her and her face was pressed almost painfully against the locker door. She heard a slightly raspy, male voice question in a low tone, "what the fucking hell was that, bitch?" Lucy struggled to break free of Natsu's hold but failed. She soon heard a second voice, this time a woman's, snap at her, "open your eyes, knot-hole!" Lucy slowly did as she was instructed. She saw a red-haired young woman that was visibly fuming. The female alpha spoke again, "you have some nerve, breeder." Erza spat out the slur like it was some kind of foul food that dared to assault her taste buds.

Natsu spoke up again, "what should we do to teach her a lesson?" Lucy could hear the menacing grin in his voice. A second masculine voice, Gray's, sounded on Lucy's other side, "Let's beat some sense into her. Maybe that'll show her what her place is." Natsu chuckled. "Great idea, Gray!" At those words Lucy closed her eyes in fear, waiting for the beating. But, before anything could happen, a familiar voice spoke out threateningly, "let go of her right now!"

Lucy was immediately released. Her legs that had been shaking gave way under her and she collapsed to her knees, her eyes still screwed shut. All she could hear were voices.

"What the hell?!" The newcomer did not sound pleased.

"Stay out of this! What we're doing does not concern you, Laxus!" Natsu growled.

The newcomer, apparently named Laxus, growled back, "it does if you're picking on an innocent omega that's just trying to find her class."

Gray spoke this time, "this bitch got us in trouble for no reason!"

"I read the note you threw at her, you're just mad that she didn't let you three get off of picking on her scott free. Shouldn't have provoked her." The fourth alpha stated rather coldly. He then spoke again, "now, leave her alone and get to class."

"What if we don't?" Erza's tone was mocking.

There was a few moments of silence, and then the deeper-voiced alpha answered, "I'll speak to my grandfather about this."

"Grandfather?" Natsu almost laughed.

"Were you not aware that my grandfather runs this fucking school?"

There was silence, and then Lucy heard the footsteps of Team Natsu scurrying off. Laxus spoke to the female omega softly, "they're gone now. Let me help you up...again." Lucy hesitantly opened her eyes and looked into stormy grey eyes. She slowly rest her hand on his and allowed him to pull her up. She could feel her face heat up and her heart beginning to race. She managed to sputter out, "w-what are you d-doing out of c-class?" Laxus chuckled. "I wanted to make sure that you got to your third class safely."

Lucy nodded as she muttered a thank you. Laxus then placed a hand on her upper back and lightly ushered her down the hallway. "Come on, I'll show you where it is. Chemistry, right?" Lucy nodded.

Once they came to a stop at the closed door of her class, Laxus turned to her. With a barely-there shade of pink coating his cheeks, asked with a soft smile, "Hey, I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me? You're interesting." Lucy blushed deeply. She quickly nodded and told him to wait outside of the school for her, since they did not share the same final class, so they could decide where to go. Laxus agreed to this and walked off to his class.

Lucy opened the classroom door, prepared to excuse her lateness solely on having gotten lost. As she sat in her seat, she figured that maybe coming to this school wasn't such a bad thing.

“Mo—m! Have you seen my dragon shirt?” Natsu Dragneel yelled from his bedroom, searching his closet to no avail. The Alpha teen was frustrated that he couldn’t find one of his favorite t-shirts. Come to think of it, he hadn’t seen it for over a week.

“No,” the reply came from somewhere in the house. “Maybe it’s still in the laundry room waiting to be washed.”

“Ugh!” Natsu groaned and grabbed an alternative. The high school senior had wasted too much time searching and needed to get to school before he was late again. This was the second t-shirt to go missing this month!

He plops onto his first period seat just as the school bell rang, an annoyed look on the teachers face greeting him. But Natsu merely shrugged at the man with a wide brimmed smile. What was Mr. Gildarts gonna do? He’d made it on time and he was a star pupil. The lesson droned on. Then second period, and third period passed by with nothing out of the ordinary.

As a popular Alpha, Natsu fielded a lot of attention, especially from the Omegas, but he never let it get in the way of his education. He’d learned to ignore the wanton scents left behind by irresponsible Omegas. Everyone was supposed to wear suppression patches in public, but the rule was rarely enforced unless there was a problem and that mostly happened if they weren’t suppressing a heat spell or rut.

Thankfully it was time for lunch, and since he’d missed breakfast, Natsu was starving! The cafeteria was filled with students by the time he’d arrived, but as his eyes searched, it keyed in on their usual spot. His friends were mostly sitting with their trays in conversation, so Natsu quickly grabbed his food and joined them, taking a seat next to his best friend, and fellow Alpha Gray Fullbuster. It was typical high school banter, projects coming up, some gossip like so-and-so just started courting, blah, blah, blah. Natsu didn’t really pay much attention to such things. Not that he didn’t like a certain blonde Omega, but they’re still young, and frankly he wasn’t interested in following traditional rules at the moment.

Okay, that was a bit of a lie. While he may be an Alpha, that didn’t mean he wasn’t socially awkward when it came to the idea of dating. Alphas are expected to take the dominant position, make the moves, so-to-speak, and he was afraid to. There is supposed to be a proper way to court the person you like, giving proper gifts, etc and Natsu was too nervous to even walk into those stores to buy anything. Plus, he didn’t know if the Omegan felt the same, and the last thing he wanted be was rejected.

“You okay, dude?” Gray nudged Natsu’s side. “You’re like, distracted today.”

“Huh? Oh, yeah. I was just trying to think where I might have left one of my shirts. I couldn’t find it this morning.”

“Am I rubbing off on you? Picked up my stripping habit?”

“Pfft! No! I’m sure I’ll find it.”

But he doesn’t. Natsu searched his locker at school, all over his house, and never found it. Two weeks later another piece of clothing disappeared, then a month later another. The tally was up to three t-shirts, a pair of socks, a hoodie, and now his favorite scarf. Okay, the other items he could deal with, but the scarf held a lot of meaning for him because his father gave it to him for his 10th birthday.

Natsu vented about the missing scarf at school the next day to his friends. How it was really strange that stuff was going missing from his room. Everyone tried to give suggestions, maybe he’d simply misplaced them or stress from school was affecting his memory. One person even commented that ruts were affecting his brain. Pfft, no they weren’t! He was very careful to control and suppress his rut times to avoid its affect on the unmated.

Then something new occurred in the clothing shenanigans. A couple of days later, he found his scarf back in his room, neatly folded, but hidden in his closet. Had he simply missed it? No, he was pretty certain he’d checked well and the scarf had not been in his closet. The only person who’d been in his room that week aside from himself was his mother and Lucy Heartfilia.

“Could it have been Lucy?” Natsu wondered aloud, while wrapping the scarf around his neck. They’d known each other since primary school and the blonde never struck him as a thief. There must be a logical explanation. “I’ll just drop by and ask her,” since he needed to give her his notes for a class anyways.

It took him only a few minutes to arrive at Lucy’s home a couple of blocks over. Natsu knocked and was greeted by Virgo, the family maid who welcomed him in.

“Miss Lucy is in her room,” the woman gestured towards the stairs with a gleam in her eyes. “Go right on up.”

“Are you sure it’s okay if I go up there?”

“Oh, yes! I’m sure she’d be happy to see you. Just knock upon entering.”

“Thank you, Virgo,” he smiled and walked to the stairs.

Natsu knew where Lucy’s room was, but it had been a couple of years since he’d gone inside it. When they studied, she always went to his house, or they’d study in her living room. He assumed it was because they were older now, and it wasn’t as proper for a male to go into a girls room. Which was fine with him. He didn’t want to see anything inappropriate by accident that could trigger his instincts.

He knocked as he opened the door. “Hey Lucy, you in—” A shriek rang out as he stepped inside and was confronted by a sight he wasn’t expecting. Nothing R rated! But... “I-Is that?”

“Omg what are you doing here?!” The blonde screamed as she scrambled, failing to hide things.

“I have the notes for the test... Lucy, is that my shirt?” Natsu spied the familiar dragon logo he’d been searching for in over a month.

All the blood runs out of Lucy’s face at being caught. “Um, I-I... I can explain.”

Just as expected, Natsu’s Alpha instincts kicked in the moment he sensed the distress blooming in the Omegas scent. Lucy wasn’t wearing a suppression patch since she was at home, so he could smell her feelings immediately. And what he was seeing was clearly a nest based on what they’d learned in health class. It all made sense now. “I’m not angry,” his face softened, almost chuckling. Frankly, she was adorably embarrassed and he couldn’t help the preening sense of pride growing in his chest. “You took my stuff to add to your nest?”

The blonde averted her eyes. “Yes. Your scent is comforting during my h-heat cycles,” her voice petered out at the last part. “I didn’t think you liked me in this way, so I took them when I was at your house.”

It shouldn’t surprise him that she felt this way about him. One of the reasons they’d grown close over the years was because their scents were comforting to each other’s. Natsu closed the gap between them, taking her hands gently into his. “Lucy look at me,” he coaxed her brown eyes up. “I’d be honored to court you properly, if you’ll let me.” He then removed the scarf from his neck and wound it around hers, “consider this a promise gift.”

“Is this for real?” The words wisp out from Lucy’s lips as if unbelieving what the Alpha was saying.

He chuckled and swept in to place a soft kiss on her lips. “It’s as real as you’d like it to be.”

Cojeel Week prompts - Day 4 + Day 6: Meeting + Hunting.

Actual Dragons AU | Rating: T+ [Minor descriptions of blood/injuries, swearing]

It had started with a strange scent that he had never smelled before, carried on the wind into the flight’s territory.

Except… that wasn’t true, now that he was tracking it. Not entirely. He pressed his wide, dark nose to the earth, sniffing at the clawed tracks in front of him; checking the scent again, just to be sure. Male. Cloying and herbal, a heavy smell like lavender; tinges of a rotting yet earthy scent - and the smell of blood. Gajeel had smelled this scent before.

A couple weeks before, Natsu had come back after getting into a rough fight, his wounds oozing this scent. A poison dragon, he’d said. It’d taken two weeks for the young fire dragon to bounce back to his usual over-excitable self, even with Wendy’s healing element; the wounds just didn’t want to close.

Not that Gajeel didn’t understand why another dragon would want to snap at the annoying, pink-maned menace - Natsu had a habit of not being able to tell when others weren’t interested in play-fighting, and on that day he happened to pick the wrong playmate. But this new dragon wasn’t part of their flight - but you don’t go barging into someone’s home and attack someone without consequences.

And if Laxus didn’t want to do his job as the alpha of their flight and protect the dragons under him, then Gajeel would gladly do it. Especially if it meant one-upping that fat, furry, zappy jerk.

The footprints were narrow and dragonic in shape, and the weight looked to be on the balls of the foot with the tail dragging along behind; a two-legged gait, which meant either that this poison fucker was taking his time strolling through... or he was injured, unable to fly, and trying not to use his front legs. Given that Gajeel could still pick up traces of blood, it was probably the second. It meant that he would catch up to this stranger sooner rather than later.

With smooth, wide strides on muscular legs, he followed the trail until it edged into one of the rivers that ran through the flightlands… where it stopped.

No tracks emerged on the other side.

If he squinted, he could make out the uneven steps in the center of the river, headed downstream. Gajeel craned his head down to the water’s edge, eyeing one of the submerged footprints, snorting at the loose rocks and smell of mud. Going into water was better to avoid other races tracking scents, not other dragons. Any wildborn dragon worth their salt would know that.

“Great, another domestic,” he muttered to himself, putting two and two together. One in the flight was enough; the former-domestic alpha in question knew how to throw his weight around - all fifteen tons of it - but he barely knew how to act like a dragon outside of that.

Whatever. It would slow down his prey even further.

The iron dragon didn’t have to travel the river bank long before a wet trail of water led off into the forest again. He waded through the water with ease and pressed his nose to the wet splotches on the ground - blades of grass and leaves of shrubs moving as his nostrils worked - finding the cloying scent in question stronger.

And that was when he saw it - eyes, watching him from the underbrush. He barely had enough time to harden his scales before a fanged maw erupted from the foliage in an attempt to bite him.

Gajeel reared back in surprise, before bringing his forelegs crashing down with all his weight in attempt to crush this attacker, a move that shook the ground - and just barely missed.

Metal breed dragons had wings that were thick and heavy: better for short trips, shielding, and propelling lunges. A rebound attack from the side was fared no better against the iron dragon, as he shielded himself with the dark limbs and threw himself into the move, pushing the attacker back with surprising ease. If he had to guess, he had a three ton advantage over this new threat.

When he finally whirled to face the poisonous interloper, he wasn’t sure what to expect beyond something worth fighting. And it certainly wasn’t… this.

This intruder in the flightlands was very striking in looks... and also literally.

Where Gajeel had a stocky torso and plated scales and claws, as his kind were apt to, this stranger was… very sleek. The stranger had a longer, thinner torso; a round, flat head and short snout, with an S-curve neck, long limbs and fingers tipped with cruel-looking white claws.

Where dark spikes decorated Gajeel’s snout, brows, neck, and forelimbs; his horns thick and curled back - and this stranger barely had horns! Actually, they were… more like long thorns. Thin and sharp, the right one was broken.

And where Gajeel was dark gray with black mottling, black mane - this stranger was several bright colors. Purple scales with maroon dusting the joints gave way to a pale white underbelly, yellow speckles dotting along the spine and cheeks. And a crimson red mane.

The stranger’s long tail whipped in warning and he hissed for so long it was any wonder he had any breath left after. It was enough of a reminder to drag Gajeel out of his thoughts, and back to the fight at hand.

They circled each other, daring the other to strike; they were too close in proximity to set off any proper elemental roars, physical hits were the only option in such a situation. Gajeel had his defense, but even on two legs, this other dragon seemed to be more on the unexpectedly speedy side.

Red eyes scanned the other’s awkward movement. One of the stranger’s wings, the one on the side he tried to keep away from Gajeel, was folded strangely, his arm on that side tucked up a little too tightly. Gajeel hadn’t noticed it at first with the other’s natural reddish colorings, but there was dried blood coating that whole shoulder and limb.

“Looks like you had a number done on ya,” Gajeel commented.

The other dragon curled his upper lip back, exposing thin, sharp fangs. “What’s it to you, rust breath.”

Gajeel shrugged off the insult, he’d been called far worse before. “Someone in my flight got into a fight with a poison-breed dragon that wandered into our territory. Seems like you’re the only one around here that fits that description.”

The stranger briefly paused, tilting his head ever-so-slightly. “The fire dragon,” he said. “You saw the damage I did. But you know the damage he could do, as well.” Gajeel blinked - he didn’t recall saying that out loud.

“Ya don’t look or smell crispy,” Gajeel snorted in explanation. “So that damage on you ain’t from him, is it?”

The stranger watched him with violet eyes. Guarded and new and knowing - and his gaze made Gajeel’s scales writhe hotly and his posture straighten.

This was offset by the faceful of sand and pebbles the stranger threw at Gajeel; and any thoughts of looking into the other dragon’s eyes left Gajeel’s mind. “Watch it,” he growled. “I know you domestics ain’t got proper dragon manners, but throwing sand’s a dirty move.”

“Says the feral,” the stranger threw back with a light hiss. “If you were going to outright attack me, you would have done it by now-”

“Tch, save it, pillow princess,” Gajeel heckled, thudding his plated tail against the ground. “I’m not gonna attack ya, not in that sorry state yer in. Wouldn’t be right.”

Slanted violet eyes narrowed. “What makes you think I won’t attack you?”

“You made it this far into our territory after beating the snot outta another dragon, so you ain’t weak or stupid.” Gajeel shook himself free of the sand, his hard scales clinking lightly. “Your wing’s all fucked up, so you can’t fly. You’re not gonna get far on two legs and smelling ta high hell of blood. The last thing you need right now is a hard fight and you know it.”

The stranger eyed him, catching on to what the iron dragon was suggesting. “I’m not interested in charity from ferals.”

“Who said anythin’ about charity?” Gajeel scoffed. “You’d owe me a real fight.” He lifted a foreclaw and motioned dismissively. “Once you’re not so sorry-lookin’. S’gotta be better than running from whatever did that to ya.”

The stranger’s tail kneaded in the air as he gave it some thought. “You have a point,” he conceded. “A shitty point, but it’s a point.”

“That any way to talk to someone that’s offering to save yer ass?”

“Let’s say I take up your offer,” the stranger said, ignoring Gajeel’s comment entirely. “I’ll leave when I heal up.” He held his head at an angle, a cocky grin spreading along his purple-pale maw. Gajeel’s heart beat just a little faster at the sight. “And if you can catch me, then maybe you’ll get a fight. Maybe you’ll even live after.”

“S’not what I offered.”

“You know us domestics,” the stranger mockingly said. The poison dragon started pacing around Gajeel again - when had they stopped? Gajeel spun to face the stranger just as the stranger’s tail teasingly brushed along the length of Gajeel’s. Gajeel’s scales shuddered, he suppressed the desire to splay his wings in show at the touch. “We just don’t have any manners.”

He snapped his teeth at the stranger. “At least you admit it. And speakin’ of which, ya haven’t-”

“Told you my name?” the stranger offered, both cutting off and completing Gajeel’s sentence. “Now what fun would that be, Gajeel.”

The iron dragon sharply snorted, his nostril flaring. He knew he definitely hadn’t told this poison fucker that. Yet, anyways.

“If I tell you my name, no more questions after,” the stranger’s tone was less teasing as he spoke this time. Timid, almost. A trace scent of fear intertwined with the cloying, earthy rot smell. “Got it?”

It was Gajeel’s turn to skeptically eye the other dragon. He nodded.

The stranger tilted his chin up. “Cobra,” he introduced himself. “My name’s Cobra.”

“Well, Cobra, my den’s this way.”

Nalu AU ficlet part 1 of 3 (Halloween) part 2

Lambda Fairy Psi is holding their annual Monster Ball on Halloween. Everyone was dressed up as all sorts of monsters. From creepy supernatural creatures, mythical beasts of lore, even Disney villains, and of course a few half-assed costumes, but well, these are college kids after all. No one cared, it’s all about having fun on this All Hallows’ Eve!

By the time their sister sorority showed up the party was already in full swing. The music raged and disco lighting filters through every common room in the building. The frat had gone all out on food and kegs, anything else was bring you own stash.

The others girls fit right in with their Medusas, a Wednesday Adams, witches, and other typical monster costumes. But Lucy didn’t feel like going with the grain. To her the truly evil creatures were ones that you’d never see coming.

From across the room, Natsu spies the girls coming in. He’d had his eye on one of the freshman girls of Alpha Fairy Delta ever since she’d joined. Lucy was beauty and brains with a sassy wit about her. But he wasn’t alone in trying to catch this vixen. Sting Eucliffe from a rival frat gave it a shot only to be rebuffed, so did a guy named Dan who he didn’t really know other than being a football player. Loke was still trying, typical of a playboy. But he noticed that Lucy didn’t respond to direct action and played it cool. Maybe that’s why he noticed her smarts unlike the others.

“Hey Luce!” He waves her down.

“Natsu!” She skips towards him, swaying her hips in exaggerated fashion. “This party is pretty awesome!”

“Aww thanks!” He grins and brushes the non-existent dirt from his shoulder, “can’t say that I did anything,” he laughs.

She giggles at the silly remark.

“But tell me,” he looks her up and down, “you did get the memo that said Monster Ball, right?” He laughs again, “cause you don’t look like one.”

“Oh, I may not look like one,” Lucy sidles up closer with a grin, running her finger coyly along his chest. “But how do you know,” she looks up through half-lidded eyes and plumed lashes, “that I don’t have nefarious objectives?”

There’s that brain of hers at work. Leave it to this blond bombshell to dress as a black widow or something. He chuckles, “seductress? Gonna seduce me and kill me later?”

“Nah, no killing, but maybe I’ll torture you a bit,” she winks. “I’ve decided to make you my prey tonight.” Then she sashays away like those words wouldn’t leave any normal man cringing yet intrigued.

‘Ugh!’ Natsu groans in his head. If only she knew how much she was already torturing him! He licks his lips, well fine, it’s not like he had to make this easy...

Part 2 conclusion comes on Halloween 🎃 will it be sfw or nsfw 🤔 what do you think?

A/N: Hey guys, it's your girl back again with another installment of TTDW! Fun fact: Being temporarily off work for a few weeks due to pandemic has provided some extra free time to edit and posta new chapter for this fic ( which is on account of the temporary closures of public institutions, and public spaces along with non-essential businesses/services in Ontario-the Canadian province I'm from). This isn't to suggest I'm not without fear or concern about the pandemic or potential effects on global infrastructure but at least I'm mostly coping as best as anyone can at this time. Hope you guys are all too. ( A bit more on this in the A/N at the end of this chapter .) "Seriously? Luce's alive?

That…. I can't...

A wave of overjoyed relief was washing over Natsu from the spectacular news about his best friend still breathing.

"Hear that Luce?!" He sobbed, not bothering to wipe the moisture from his eyes." You're alive and gonna be okay— Thank God! Really... don't ... know what I'd do without ya…," Scarlet-red eyes remained focused/trained on the face on the motionless angel in his arms.

"Pretty sure the guild and the rest of the people we know would be just as devastated if they lost such an incredible person and wizard . Glad you're okay either way though." Natsu's hands were stroking sweat-plastered strands of Lucy's hair back from her eyes with delicate care .

Really glad she's still in fact alive and kicking…

In that very moment , it was as if the world had fallen away; leaving just the two of them. Nothing else seemed to matter then . Not cold-blooded enemies in the room, or the recent battle just moments before; Not even E.n.d's unnerving metamorphosis. Just a dragon-demon and his most precious star with those subtle breaths, the visible rise and fall of her chest that somehow escaped any kind of major notice before.

Words can't even describe how relieved I am . Digits combed through Lucy's blonde tresses from crown to tip in a physical display of tender affection.

Hmm... Lucy's hair feels really nice. Natsu couldn't help but marvel at texture of her beneath his fingertips .Don't think I've ever stopped to fully appreciate it before .

"Gotta say that your hair feels really nice, Luce." Natsu voiced this innermost thoughts aloud; though his words were coming in soft. ."Smells real amazin' too."

Damn was the appealing fragrance of jasmine with a hint of cyclamen flooding his senses beyond intoxicating."like jasmine and that other flower we saw once— cyclamen, I think. . You've been using a new scented shampoo again, I see. Not that I'm complainin'."

"Psh—Listen to me" Natsu tacked on with a rueful chuckle that was still a bit thick from all that weeping before. " Gettin' all sentimental and crap. Hell... stripper would never even let me live it down if he heard . Still be damn proud of you though just like I am for how well you handled yourself in battle. Why don't we tell him all about it once you're awake and we're out of here?. Bet he'd like that . Till then, the two of us just need to sit tight and figure out our next move, okay?"

Wait ...

The fire demon's hands continued their fond movements- only for blood to freeze in his veins when noticing an unsightly contusion on Lucy's forehead; accented by a small gash just above her brow.

When did this happen? I swear those injuries hadn't there been seconds before .. .

Crimson eyes scanned his best friend's battered frame for further damage in alarm . My God... Natsu's breath caught in his throat at the sight of that line of discolorations on her legs . Not to mention all those scratches along with the small gash peeking out through the tattered remains of Lucy's Star dress .

"Oh Luce..." He sighed, remorseful voice breaking on her name. "Can see that you're in pretty rough shape right now. I'm so sorry. Honestly don't know how or why you had a delayed reaction to all the damage. But this wouldn't have happened if I only had grabbed you and run or got your spirits to transport you to their world, Hell— Maybe we could've both escaped and I could've helped kept you safe while figuring out this new demon form means for us together. Anyways, time to put pressure on your wound."

A hand tore a loose piece of fabric to apply pressure on the hemorrhaging wound. "See? You'll be okay . Gonnal get ya' all fixed up and good as new in no time ."

Damn Luce stills looks like an angel to me, Natsu mused in reverent admiration . Even with those injuries...

"Ooh- how cute!" Jackal's dervisie voice cut  through  the other demon’s reverie; whose arms automatically protectively tightened around Lucy's frame out of fierce instinct-automatic without a second though. Not to mention those two pair of eyes he could sense that set him on edge."

"Aw Damn." Jackal broke in again with a gleeful taunt that bordered on sadistic."That poor,pretty girl of you is covered in ugly bruises and scratches, Dragneel."

That little ...

Natsu's head automatically snapped around to meet Jackal with a baleful snarl. Damn was that all that black rage roaring in his veins all too consuming.

"There's that growling again" Jackal cackled, clearly unfazed at by the alpha demon's bared canines ." Bared fangs and what not. Such a shame what happened to Blondie here , or is it? You really did a number on her, huh Tempester?"

"Huh," Tempester mused, bland disinterest colouring his tone."it seems I did . Kind of forgot that my curses can sometimes have o delayed side effects on people . Who knows? That pathetic wrench might even have internal bleeding.

"You goddamned bastard!" The flame- eater raged, fury boiling over. "Lucy ain't pathetic or some kind of toy to play with ... God.. All those injuries… are you fault and . I swear that You're both gonna pay for what you did to her!"

"Oh-You think so?" Jackal scoffed with let out another infantilizing laugh —beyond infuriating .

"Someone's rattled." Tempster pointed out, listless eyes trained on the stone-brick wall ahead. "Unfortunate."

"You don't say," Jackal deadpanned, with a disdainful roll of the eyes ."But Seriously Though , E.N.D, do you even hear yourself? .I mean getting all riled up over a human girl in that way —talk about pathetic. Sure said girl is extremely beautiful with a killer bod and feisty personality to boot—I'll give you that. But is she worth losing your cool over or fraternizing with? I don't think so and neither should you . God knows all that pent up rage and aggression would be far more suited for another cause. Not to mention, you'd better off without her life tainting your judgement and hindering your full potential as the most powerful of all etherious. So let's resolve this, shall we? Hand over the celestial wizard and I'll gladly dispose of her for you . Sound good?"

" 'Sound good?'Sound Good?!’ Are you kidding me?"!

Good God did those last words only serve to incense the snarling dragon further.

" There's no way in hell I'm gonna give Lucy up or let either of you touch her!"

"Come on Dragneel-be reasonable."

"No-rot in hell!"

"Oh honestly E.N.D.-"

"My name is Natsu!"

"Well okay then, Natsu— Just calm down ." Jackal's couldn't seem to resist reprimanding the fire demon; as if he were some errant child pitching a fit ."You're being ridiculous. Anyways, tell you what. I promise to make her death as qui-"

"Shut up!"

" Quick and mostly painless..."

"I said shut up!" En.d's voice rose to an ear-splitting roar that could've struck terror into the hearts of the gods themselves. "Try anything on her and I swear I'll kill you!"

A/N: Well that's Chapter 4 folks- hope you enjoyed! Now a bit more about the pandemic situation in Ontario . Like many other provinces and countries around the world,, the government of Ontario has opted to shut down/ temporarily close non-essential services, businesses, public spaces and institutions to help curb the spread of the virus for a few weeks (or more) before spring break. Such institutions include all schools and childcare centres/ services in those settings which applies to the childcare company I'm currently employed with. You know on account of most of their centres and programs being based in public schools. (Independently-run Daycares also remain closed. And yes i'm a ECE by trade for any who were wondering or didn't already). Schools and child cares were tentatively scheduled to reopen after April 5th; though the closures have been extended for another month (according to Doug Ford (the premier/leader of Ontario). Not ideal but at least it gives me some extra time for me to work on things alongside my writing(i.e editing upcoming chapters for fics and WIPS). All right folks, that's all I have to say on that subject.
