What’s your favorite thing about season 3a of Teen Wolf and why?

The tl;dr answer is almost everything.

Let's start with Tattoo- I love the way the episode sets everything up. I've mentioned it in rewatch before but I really want to explore the use of the word "ephemeral" in Tattoo. From exploring Scott's break up with Allison, to his tattoo not lasting, to the way he uses the word, even to the idea that Scott's status as a beta is ephemeral, even at this point in the series. I love the scene with Stiles and Derek holding Scott down to blowtorch his arm. I LOVE the way it opens with fucking BRAEDEN rescuing Isaac on a motorcycle.

I love the introduction of Deucalion. I love and adore the meet-cute in the elevator. Please enjoy @spikeface's brilliant fic: a certain potential for a fascinating glimpse of Deucalion's POV in that scene.

I love that Scott is Isaac's werewolf contact. I love the tension as the alpha pack stalks Braeden (I would be mad about how this ended, except she comes back) and their intro. I love the tension between Allison, Lydia, and Derek. It's a very well-done episode and definitely sets up a fantastic season so well.

Chaos Rising introduces Heather, who is friends with Danielle from Party Guessed. I was excited. We get the vault rescue, and there's some fun Steter banter. "No, you idiot, I live in a condo downtown, will forever be a favorite moment. The vault rescue! Scott's look at the end is A FAVORED moment, the blood on the chin? I cannot.

Then, we move on to Fireflies. I am weak for Scott saving those kids in the beginning, for the tension between him and Allison, and for the introduction of Cora! And then they are working with Chris. Who is still pointing a gun at Scott, but Scott is so soft and accepting of it. "I get that," he says. 🥺 Then they do a rescue! And Jennifer is there! And Derek is so worried about hurting her. Unfortunate. (When I was first watching, I leaned over to @illbeintheend and was like, "Tell me she's evil?" :D ) I think my favorite bit of Unleashed is when they pull the motorcycle swap on the twins. That is like PEAK supernatural teenager shenanigans to me. And they deserved more lower stakes (not that the twins are entirely low-stakes) shenans, overall. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE that Allison knows so much about motorcycles. Scallison motorcycle trip whenst?

Frayed. Frayed. FRAYED. BELOVED. I love so much about this episode. The sciles! the scallison! more truedemon in the elevator? and then on an escalator!! the scerek! the scisaac! BOYDDD. That moment where Scott is like "Well, I do," when Boyd doesn't care what happens to himself? Gyahhh. I CANNOT. And the the fight scene? Is SO good? Despite them having forgotten about light bulbs by 3a I find that to be one of the best choreographed fight scenes in the show. The Coach of it all? Ofc he's not gonna let them stop for a bathroom break, SIT DOWN BILINSKI. I love Frayed. AND THEN WE GET MOTEL CALIFORNIA RIGHT AFTER?? Lydia's arc in this is SOOO good. The Allison and Lydia moment where Allison is just "I believe you" and Lydia is so touched and clearly bolstered, it's one of the reasons I head canon she's had access to her powers her entire life. It's just now that people believe her about them. The Isaac and Ethan character moments? LEARNING ABOUT ALICIA (GREAT BUT OMG SHOOOOWWWW WHY IS THIS ALL WE GET???). Boyd. Cry!!! And THEN. The angst of the parking light scene at the end. I tear up still watching it. (Tbf I cry real easy.) Currents. I love Currents for the metronome scene and the way it highlights Boyd's intelligence. He has one of the best plans. And then the way it ends? That hurts me. Proto-alpha Scott almost rescuing Deaton? Bbbb. I have mixed feelings about Visionary. The Paige arc is devastating. Read my own excellent fic (i just) died in your arms for a look at my thoughts on her and Derek. I love the glimpse of pre-canon and Deucalion's backstory. I find the "unreliable narrator" bit to be a touch heavy-handed, but it's grown on me after many watched for fics.

The Girl Who Knew Too Much and The Overlooked. GYHAHHHH! I love so much about these. The scydia hand hold moment. "For someone like you to help" she says to Scott and I MELT. The big orchestra crescendo! The death of Deputy Tara and the little hints at her relationship with Stiles? The way Derek absolutely believes Scott and Stiles about Jennifer and her utter shock but quick turnaround?

The elevator scene! It's so silly and SO GREAT. I love it so much, okay. Deucalion manipulating events? The desperation as Stiles and Scott try and rescue their parents? Listen, these episodes are also so good. And then we have Scott going with Deucalion at the end of the episode. The way he has no idea what to do. He's just a lost kid, in so far over his head. And his mom and Stile's dad are missing and his (pretty damn good, too) English teacher is evil and there is Deucalion. And he has no choice and maybe he was right in that motel parking lot, it certainly feels like there's no help.

Then Alpha Pact happens. Then we get to Lunar Eclipse. And I just. The ice baths?? I have spent so much time wondering how Deaton, Isaac, and Lydia felt sitting there. Waiting. For hours. Lydia desperately holding back her screams for Allison, Scott and Stiles. Also, they all look so gooood in black. The Nemeton! The matching tattoos! The way it brings everything together to s1. The scalisaac moment with Rafael? Priceless. Love Kalia and Jennifer's showdown. It looks so cool, first of all. But there is a moment, where you think, just maybe Kali might NOT double down. And then the glass shards fly.

The bit where Deucalion is "brother against brother, how very American," cracks me up, every watch. And then he roars and tries to force Scott to kill and well, then we have an Eclipse. AND THEN AND THEN AND THEN we get the true alpha moment we've been building to since Scott threw off Peter's control in s1 and chose his own pack over Derek's in s2. That moment is so good.

the fact that they decided to recreate the best conflict in the show without the main characters of it is insane (arden cho and dylan o'brien knew it would be dumbster fire)

also almost no mention of stiles or kira

the whole plot is a mess

I love scallison but there really was no reason for bringing her back like that

My Personal Ranking of Teen Wolf Media so far, CONTAINS SPOILERS

1. Season 3B, this is literally the best writing, directing, and acting of the series, with Dylan O'Brien flexing his acting ability, reminder he had no formal acting training, and the death of a main character cemented this as the best season for any YA show in TV history. The Nogitsune aka Void Stiles is fucking terrifying.

2. Season 4, this season is underrated to me, from Kate's return to Derek losing his powers. However this season saw the departure of Tyler Hoechlin from the series as a main cast member, and that may have soured this season for many people. Between the werejaguar and Peter turning heel the villains are at their best and we get the iconic scene of Derek turning into a evolved werewolf.

3. Season 6B, the end of the series kicks into high gear and doesn't stop until the end. Stiles, Derek, Jackson and Ethan all return after long absences and make the show feel like Teen Wolf again, the villain is awful but Theo and Liam easily carry a few episodes.

4. Season 6A, due to Dylan O'Brien needing to leave the show to film Maze Runner, the writer's decided to have new villains called the Ghost Riders kidnap Stiles and effectively erase him from everyone's memories. This leads to the best acting from Tyler Posey imo. This also had the return of Derek via archive footage and Stydia becoming canon.

5. Season 3A, The Alpha pack is severely underrated and I loved how Danny got some character development even if it was small.

6. Season 2, Underrated? Yes. Good? Ehhhhh. The Kanima is fucking iconic and Colton Haynes shows off how fucking incredible he is as an actor. Derek's "Alpha high" is also well played. Boyd and Erica are good side characters but they deserved better

7. Season 5, the first season without Derek and it shows, the show decides to hint at a next generation spin off (which never happened) with extra focus on Liam Dunbar. But it feels like Scott, Stiles, Lydia and Malia are given the backseat. Theo Raeken is easily one of the best villains, manipulating everything to his benefit until it back fires on him. However this season gets boring fast with twenty episodes following one story. My favorite scene is still Stiles finally snapping and punching Scott.

8. Season 1, the start of the series also happens to be the worst. Scott is at his worst but is still likable in parts. The actors quickly get better with every episode, Holland Roden definitely improves fast.

9. Teen Wolf: The Movie, I don't even want to talk about this. This is Scallison fanfiction with all the bad parts of fanfiction, Derek is killed off, Malia and Parrish are a thing, Stydia broke up because of a dream etc. However, I did like Crystal Reed's performance as Allison, balancing being numb and brainwashed and scared because she doesn't know anything, Eli Hale is the best part, and the scene of Derek, Scott and Eli roaring with all the rooms matching their eyes is iconic, the score helps a lot.

Eli going to the custody of Sc*llison literally makes zero sense. He should have a whole ass aunt out there in Cora. Isaac exists, somewhere and he was at least in Derek's pack. It even feels like Sheriff Stilinski knows Eli better than Scott does. Any of them would've been better options for a guardian, never mind his father shouldn't have been killed off that way in the first place, but still.

Anon, you're right on the money with this one. Who the fuck are Allison and Scott to Eli? Like you said, what about Cora? Hell, in the movie it seems like Eli and Malia are kind of close? Since she knows all about Eli fainting when he shows his fangs or claws and she seems very protective of him (which is fucking adorable. I love that and I wish they'd shown more Malia and Derek interactions). So why couldn't Eli have gone to her? Or, lord, even psychotic ass Peter would've been a better option. Also, Jeff Davis would rather cut off his own arm and eat it than have Eli go into Sheriff Stilinski's care because then us sterek fans would go fucking feral (rightfully so).

It's like Jeff Davis just wanted to have Eli go to scallison because it'd be cute for scallison to have a kid because apparently they deserve their happily ever after and nobody else does. Scott even talked about wanting kids in the beginning so how fucking convenient that he now has custody of one.

I really want to write an analysis on why this movie sucks because this movie is so fucking bad, but I don't know if anyone would be interested.

TEEN WOLF SPOILERS !

jeff davis truly has got to be the most spiteful person out there to make this movie. teen wolf was my absolute favorite show as a teen. i remember being obsessed with it for like three years, at least. i’m glad i’m seeing all the fans of the show hate on the movie because it’s what it deserves.

the fact that jeff davis refuses to acknowledge that scott mccall was never the star of the show is plain stupid. stiles was the star from the pilot to the final episode. he embodied the show, gave it life. to this day, he’s still one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. the show would have been nothing without stiles. void stiles was one of the biggest highlights of the show (as it should). dylan o’brien shined every second on the screen in his role.

what’s even more wild to me is that stiles and lydia, one of if not the most popular pairing from the show, got broken up over something so incredibly stupid and irrelevant that it makes me question if i was even watching the teen wolf movie. stiles and lydia who had a six-season slowburn and were the fan-favorite ship from the very first season (at least that’s how it felt to me) and it got ruined just like that. i just don’t get it. like it was so unnecessary that it’s just funny to me.

and then there’s the also very unnecessary death of derek hale. my beloved. derek who probably went through the most in the show (if i remember correctly anyway, i haven’t watched it in a couple years). like this man had to kill his first love, his family died in a fire, he was sa’d by kate, and now they let him burn to death in front of his son??? respectfully, what???? that is beyond fucked up. i only liked the moment where he spoke about stiles’s jeep. i’m not really a sterek shipper myself but i do get why fans like them.

also the weird thing is — for the longest time i was bummed that i didn’t get my scallison endgame, and now that i did get it, i just… i don’t know. it’s not the same? it certainly wasn’t necessary for me anymore. her death was sad as fuck but to be honest i didn’t need her back.

can’t believe i’m only realizing it now, but i’ve grown to prefer kira over allison. allison used to be my favorite girl on the show for some reason but she definitely isn’t anymore. and the fact that arden cho was offered half of what the white actresses would be receiving for the movie?? what the fuck??? that’s ridiculous. i’m glad she turned the offer down because she deserves better than to be involved in this shitshow anyways. can’t believe all the other actors went through with the film while being aware of that. most of them are jobless anyways sooo

i feel like the movie could have worked if everyone had returned with a solid storyline (honestly everything would have been better than this, the majority of fanfic writers could come up with a better script than this). and when i say everyone i mean everyone. stiles, kira, isaac, you name them. but in all honesty? we didn’t need a movie. even though i feel like the show didn’t end on a high note (season 6 was shit if you ask me) i thought the ending was fine.

the show itself wasn’t fantastic writing or acting (it definitely felt better at the time but i was younger so yk) but its storylines were enjoyable enough, i liked the script and most of the characters and their dynamics were fun. it was a different time with all the supernatural-ish shows and stuff and whatever but i did love it for a long time. it’s sad to know they went in this direction with the movie but my expectations were very low anyways so i kind of saw it coming. i’m gonna attempt a rewatch of the show soon to see whether it was as i remembered it.

I heard several times from cast and JD that the movie was a love letter to the fans. Ya’ll that movie was a slap in the face to everyone but I guess Scallison fans.

The best parts were of Derek, Eli, and the Sheriff. Also Jackson had some hilarious one liners.

Full disclosure I did not watch the full movie I had everyone tell me everything and then my bestie @sterekyrround showed me the highlights. Because the common theme from people who did watch the movie all the way? Don’t waste your time. And that’s from fans who watched Teen Wolf from the very beginning.

So I’ll be living in my fanfic world where Sterek is canon and Eli has two dads that love him dearly and a grandpa that spoils him. And where Marrish is for Lydian Martin and Jordan Parrish. I will never acknowledge Malia and Parrish EVER.

Theo and his leather jacket for sure. And his hoodies. But also love the idea of Theo wearing Liam’s jersey, for obvious reasons.

And I also like the idea of Liam favouring that burgundy/maroon long sleeved button front henley because it used to be Scott’s.

Is there a character or ship you were so sure you would never write/draw but now you’ve changed your mind?

I pretty much went into writing fan fics with Thiam my tunnel vision (they still kinda are) but I would say I’ve become more fond of rare pairs and poly ships now. Like while I always see Thiam as my OTP, I am open to exploring them with other characters (Sceo, Liolan, etc). I’d also say Josh as a character has grown on me too.

So in 6x16 - Liam asks Theo to help him with his plan at the Zoo and they manage to get all those supplies to make it look like the pack is living there. But Liam also planned to give that stuff to Theo after, having worked out he’s homeless, hoping to find a better solution once the war is over.

I was reading a story recently where Stiles and the Sheriff were talking about the things that keep happening around them and the Sheriff said something like Stiles talks and acts like veteran soldiers do and after thinking about it that analogy does fit his character so well. It takes Derek a while to wrestle these emotions into a form that allows him to decided he wants to pursue them. Yet, he's normally the one being chased, Derek has never had a problem getting peoples attention, he has a good body and charming looks, so he has to work out how to win the heart of the hyper teen. And to put it gently, Stiles has his very own courting ritual that is unlike any wolf or human ritual. It's just, neither of them knows that. To make it worse, the wolf under Derek's skin is growing impatient.

He’d stalked over to the other side of the cave, still eying Derek warily and growling, then settled protectively over a mass of clothes, leaves and animal innards. It was probably where he was sleeping.

“Stiles,” Derek said, answering Scott’s question. Or, one of them, at least.

Out of anger and hurt he forced a valuable member he really started to care for out of his pack. With the pack scattered and people hurt, what will come of them? In which Stiles goes along with one of Derek’s plans and ends up in an alternate universe as a result. He should’ve known better. He did know better, actually, and that means he has no one to blame but himself.

Jeff Davis and Tyler Posey's jealousy, bitterness and obsessive hate boner for Sterek is SO big that they literally burned Derek (rape victim and survivor of the Hale fire) alive and gave Derek's son to Scott (the toxic scumbag who told Derek that his family deserved to die and who violated Derek's bodily autonomy and consent for his own gain throughout the whole series)

I think if anything Jeff Davis lives vicariously through Scott McCall and envisions himself as the Scott that would've been, which is why he got so frustrated when his plan to turn Derek Hale into the villain failed. Stiles was supposed to be the irrelevant comedy relief sidekick, too, and it had the same outcome.

As for Sterek; while its certainly the biggest example of how any ship that overcame Scallison was trashed, its not exactly a lone case. Scisaac was another example, and Stalia/Stydia as third and fourth. Essentially any ship that went against Jeff's endgame plan was simultaneously butchered and baited. Queer ships especially were the target of this because Jeff was marketing Teen Wolf at straight, young women an straight, young men and was of the misguided illusion that queer ships would turn off his target audience.

There's an entire list of people with a more logical, reasonable and believable claim to Eli than Scott. But alas the apparent only way Jeff could've given Scallison the ultimate happy family endgame was to brutally kill the one character who did actually deserve to be a loving, present parent, and give his child to them.

Which ultimately means any movie sequel or spin-off series is going to be about Scott and Allison and their difficult adjustment to the modern world and to raising a child. Gag.

(Also its very apparent that Paramount+ funded this is a desperate attempt to rake in new subscribers and money off the back of Teen Wolf, so if you really want to make sure the Teen Wolf legacy dies with this movie, cancel your subscription. Even if only for a few months.)
