#also I want to write a fic for my Nancy Drew inspired AU

Text
So I started writing more Roleswap Tangled AU last week. Thinking it was just easily another part. Only to find out I had to break that into two parts.
I have one part finished, but I am waiting to finish the second part to start posting.
Bare with me, I try to write an hour in the morning before getting ready for work, and on the weekends. (And at night when I can, though I try to avoid because I can get sucked in and will go to bed too late). Hopefully i post it after this weekend.

Fic asks (randomized)
8,11,24,29
8. If you had to write a sequel to a fic, you'd write it for...
Probably Arla, my oneshot about Emily getting a PTSD service dog (featuring Jemily). As a service dog handler, I don't see enough fics about them and I have a lot of material to work from haha
11. A wip you'd like to finish someday?
I cannot pick just one so:
you drew stars around my scars (Elle Greenaway post-BAU fic)
A Golden Tattoo (Ronance tattoo shop au, I'm working on it, the third chapter has been started)
Two different Nancy/reader fics
Two different Ronance oneshots
All of these fics haunt my dreams, they call to me, desperate to be saved from the graveyard that is my Google docs...
24. How do you recharge when you're not feeling creative?
This happens a lot due to my fun fun chronic illness. I often just take time to do the things I want to do (play Minecraft, watch tv, crochet) and ideas and creativity always comes back to me. I also like to brainstorm with my best friend a lot if I'm having writer's block, he always has great suggestions!!
29. How easy is it for you to come up with titles?
It tends to be quite easy for me, because most of my fics are inspired by songs. However, in both you drew stars around my stars and A Golden Tattoo I use Taylor Swift lyrics for the chapter titles and it sometimes takes a while to find one that fits the vibes.

rarepair exchange 2023
Hello! Lately I seem to be into a lot of pairs there is very little fic for so I'm excited about this exchange! I hope that my additional info is helpful and, most importantly, that you have a fun experience writing my fic! I’ve a tendency to write a lot here to help provide inspiration, but if you already have an idea that you’re really inspired by I’m totally happy for you to run with that as long as it doesn’t touch my DNWs.
I’m also useyourtelescope on AO3, you can find me here for reference. My account is open for treats, which are very welcome if you are so inclined. Although my requests are all for fic, art treats are welcome too
General Preferences & Prompts
I prefer third person to first person fic, though focusing on the POV of one or more characters is fine. I love both fluff and angst, though I like my angst with a happy or at least hopeful ending. I only read heavy angst in specific situations, none of which are my preferred prompts for these fandoms. Below are some tropes/moments I enjoy:
Fake relationship (in all its forms, especially marriage of convenience and undercover as a couple)
Arranged marriage
Mutual pining (unrequited pining turning into mutual pining also welcome)
Friends to lovers
Hurt/comfort (maybe patching s.o. up after an injury, looking after them when they’re sick or taking home when drunk - emotional h/c is welcome as well as physical)
One partner reassuring the other
Fixing the other character’s clothes (straightening collars, fixing ties)
Clothes sharing/stealing (especially female character wearing male characters jacket or sweater)
One character covering the other with a blanket when they’ve fallen asleep
Domesticity (e.g. cooking together, going grocery shopping, house-hunting, painting their house) either in an established relationship or in the ‘friends’ stage of friends to lovers
Letters / Emails / journal entries / texts
Sleepy snuggles, intentional or accidental
Hand holding (or some sort of hand or touch related moment)
Capers/Heists
‘Bottle episode’ style fic
Outsider POV
5 times/5+1 fic (e.g. five times a character stole the other’s clothes, five times character a looked after character b & 1 time character b returned the favour, five times they secretly held hands & 1 time they did in public, etc.)
As I have 2 requested fandoms in a Regency setting, a few generic things I love for those are men rolling up their sleeves (forearms!), dancing, accidental hand-touches and characters in love not calling the other by their first name until a very meaningful moment.
As I’m okay with Explicit fic for some of my requests here are some smut general likes:
foreplay | foreplay/making out without necessarily leading to penetrative sex | communication | enthusiastic consent | dirty talk | sexting or phone sex | praise kink | competence kink | mutual masturbation | oral sex | wearing partner’s clothes | character showing their partner what they like/sex ‘lessons’ | inexperienced partner reassured by their more experienced partner | established couple experimenting in bed together | fun and flirty | sweet and tender
General Do Not Wants: Darkfic, horror, incest, rape/noncon, torture, suicide, non-canonical character death, terminal illness, threesomes/moresomes, cheating, genderswap, bestiality, humiliation, unhappy ending, reader/you fic, high school AUs, sex without feelings, pregnant sex, mentions of COVID-19.
Fandoms
Nancy Drew (TV 2019) - George Fan/Ned Nickerson
Canon-related prompts: I’m mostly thinking post season 3 for canon prompts. A fraught moment on a case or near-death experience pushes one of them to confess their feelings / One of George’s sisters wants Nick’s help with something / Babysitting together / Future proposal / Undercover as a couple / One of them helping the other get ready for a date with someone else leads to feelings
AU prompts: Meeting through Nancy as they solve mysteries in other time periods (esp. an Agatha Christie-style 1920/30s mystery setting) / Regency AU where they were once engaged but had to break it off / College AU
Rating up to Mature.
The show coming back has reminded me just how much I love the whole crew and there is not enough fic out there for these two. As sad as I was about their breakup in season 3 it still made sense for what the characters had been through and I'm actually loving where they were right now in early season 4 (this was written after 4.02) being firmly not getting back together but still each other's biggest supporters.
On the canon front I'd be equally happy with something that showed them having that solid friendship still even though they're not together, or something that leaned into the angsty exes side of things. I will be keeping up to date with this show as the new episodes air so no need to worry about spoilers. If you go for AU, I'd prefer that George and Nick have some history between them rather than it being their first time in a relationship.
Source material: The Fourth and final season is airing now (can be seen on the CW website if you have a VPN) the earlier 3 seasons have 44 episodes combined.
Sanditon (TV 2019) - Charlotte Heywood/James Stringer
Canon-divergence or post-s1 prompts: Meeting again after he’s an architect (either with Charlotte's situation being the same or lowered so their class/status has been reversed) / Charlotte tending to James after a work accident / established relationship domesticity / meeting the family / trying to spend time together while engaged / post-marriage learning more about sex & trying new things / class differences affecting married life / arranged marriage or marriage of convenience
AU prompts: University housemates / Great British Bake Off AU / Undercover as married / Murder Mystery (Regency or 1920s/30s) / James teaching Charlotte how to fix things around the house
Rating up to Explicit.
I was debating whether to nominate them for something again since they were always on the rarer side for this fandom even before the show changed course in s2 & 3 so it seemed very unlikely to get matched on but then they were in the tagset already which felt like a sign that I should make a request at least! James Stringer is such a delight - love a working class hero trying to better himself - and its such a shame we couldn't explore the dynamic between him and Charlotte more. I think their characters would be really sweet together and I'd love to read your take on them.
My ‘canon’ prompts are focused on divergence and post-s1 as I’m more curious about what might happen later than scenes we might have missed. I think in a period fic it would be very interesting to see how class differences would affect their marriage. Charlotte said that Stringer’s house reminded her of her own, but they probably still have different expectations of some aspects of home life. It would be interesting either to see Charlotte struggling with certain aspects of being married to someone of a lower rank, or perhaps a future, successful James struggling with aspects of having raised his rank and how they support each other through those journeys.
I put the prompts under canon (i.e. Regency) or AU depending on how I imagined them, but you could easily swap some around (e.g. the accident hurt/comfort in modern AU, or James showing Charlotte handy skills in Regency setting). The Undercover/Murder Mystery prompts probably seem like outliers, but I’m a big fan of the falling in love while solving mysteries trope so I’m always down for that. Re explicit fic: I’m not sure that canon James would have all that much experience and it would be great to read them figuring that out together and having fun. I’ve only mentioned sexy times in my canon prompts because I have a soft spot for a period piece smut fic (plus given what James deals with in canon that man needs to blow off some steam!) but modern smut is fab too - AFAIK there is only one explicit fic for them and I wrote it so it would be great if there were more.
Source material: TV show loosely based on Austen’s fragment. There are 3 seasons- however for my request only the 1st season (8 eps) is required.
Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? (TV 2022) - Frankie Derwent/Bobby Jones
Canon prompts: Missing scenes from late episode 3 (e.g. their journey back to Marchbolt together, the time between the proposal and the wedding) / Future fic of them settling into married life and how their different upbringings affect that / dinner with Bobby’s Dad or Frankie’s parents (or perhaps all three at once) / learning a dance together / Frankie ‘borrowing’ Bobby’s clothes again this time leading to sex / Frankie wants to roleplay with Bobby in uniform / Frankie appreciating Bobby’s tattoo / Frankie buys some handcuffs to practise getting out of them after Chipping Somerton & realises there’s more fun ways to use them too / Reunion post-WWII
AU prompts: What if they hadn’t got caught up in the mystery and they didn’t see each other for a while after their conversation at the end of episode 1? / Regency AU where Lady Frances and Bobby the vicar’s son fall in love (with or without the murder mystery)
Rating up to Explicit.
A light-hearted mystery series where the leads fall in love while investigating is exactly my vibe so no surprise that I loved this series. Bobby and Frankie have great banter and chemistry, and the show delighted me by including so many tropes I like - Friends to lovers! Mutual pining made awkward through class differences! Casual domesticy! I think most of my prompts are self-explanatory - I haven't mentioned the obvious one of them being caught up in another case because I’m not that interested in detailed case fic right now, though it would certainly be fun to see them bantering as they try to solve another case this time as a married couple if you want to do something where a case is on the fringes in the fic. The 'Reunion post-WWII' prompt is because I don't think I could handle a super angsty separation fic set during the war, but I'd definitely be up for reading something that explored some of that emotions that had a happy ending with them seeing each other again.
For the Regency prompt I’m mostly interested in seeing how their canon dynamic plays out in the different time period - the class stuff in particular would be felt more keenly in a Regency AU. My canon ‘what if?’ prompt is because I loved the angst of the way they left things at Frankie’s house near the end of episode one and I’m curious about a scenario where Bobby went off to London when he’d originally planned and had been working/getting himself set up there for a while before he and Frankie next saw each other.
For Explicit fic the show gave me one of my general preferences having Frankie wearing Bobby’s clothes so I’d love a fic that went one further and turned into smut - or you could lean into Frankie finding Bobby ‘dreamy’ in uniform. Honestly they both have a few lines which you could take in a smutty direction! I could totally see these two having fun in the bedroom, experimenting and figuring things out as they go. They would absolutely roleplay.
Source material: TV mini-series, 3 episodes about 60 minutes each. Based on the Agatha Christie book, but that isn’t necessary to fill the prompt.
Bath Tangle - Georgette Heyer - Fanny Carlow/Hector Kirkby
Canon-related Prompts: Hector POV feelings realisation / Navigating the time between knowing they want to be together & it being appropriate to make their romance public / Married domestic life / 'Honeymoon' / Hosting their first dinner party post-marriage / possible Heyer crossovers (more details in letter)
AU Prompts: Marriage of Convenience (maybe there’s financial issues so Hector and Fanny end up marrying for practical reasons before he realises his feelings for her) / Modern AU of the novel (e.g. Fanny & Serena are housemates when Serena’s ex Hector comes to town and Fanny feels guilty for liking him because she thinks he and Serena are going to get back together)
Rating up to Explicit.
Fanny & Hector may be the secondary couple of this book, but they are one of my fave Heyer couples - their scenes are just so good! In canon this would be Fanny’s 2nd marriage so I’m interested in how it’s different to her first. There’s a clear sense of her deferring to Serena and the late Earl in the past, and I’d love to see her thrive and grow more confident as the mistress of an establishment more suited to her, with a husband that she truly loves. Maybe she worries about some of her duties as his wife and/or feelings that she does not match up to his former ideal of Serena and Hector reassures her? From Hector’s side, what were the things that drew him more to the woman who he thought would be his mother-in-law? The backstories would be a little different in a modern AU, but I’d like to see a similar dynamic play out.
If you wanted to go down the explicit route I’d love something sweet but still smutty; Fanny is quick to reassure Serena that the late Earl was kind, but since it wasn’t a love marriage maybe she wasn’t as into it before and now with Hector sex can be something she really enjoys rather than more of a duty she has to fulfil? Note I don’t mean I want fic where she was previously unwilling (see my noncon DNW), but more that her feelings for the Earl were very different to how she feels about Hector and I’d like to see how that affects their sex life. I see the dynamic likely to be Hector being the more experienced one, but I think there could be some fun potential to write him as having been so devoted to his memory of Serena all those years away that he’s a virgin, which would mean Fanny technically has more experience, but given she wouldn’t expect to take the lead in the bedroom how might that play out? (I received a fab fic exploring this particular idea last Yuletide, but there is so little Fanny/Hector content out there I'll always be happy to read more.)
If you’d like to write a crossover with some other Heyer characters (either in the dinner party prompt, or something else canon-related) I think that would be really fun! The Heyer couples I’d most like to see in a crossover are Freddy/Kitty from Cotillion, Ancilla/Waldo from The Nonesuch and Kit/Cressy from False Colours.
Additional clarification: Thought I’d add this note in regards to my general DNW of cheating since there is some overlap in the book when both Hector and Fanny are aware they have feelings for one another but Hector is engaged to Serena. I was fine with the way things went down with canon, in part because Serena also had feelings for someone else at the same time but mainly because they didn’t start conducting some big affair behind her back - they realised they both liked each other, but weren’t going to do anything about it because they also cared about her. If you write something AU or canon divergence feel free to change how they get together, but if you still want to keep the ‘tangle’ of having Hector mixed up with Serena before Fanny I ask that there’s no affair even if there is feelings crossover.
Source material: One 320-page length novel; as well as the usual shops/libraries you can find it free to read online at archive.org.

stonerbughead's year in writing 2021
Tumblr media
i wanted to take a moment before 2021 ends to say a huge thank you to all the bughead and nace fanfic writers - and to all the readers who reblogged, messaged, left kudos, or left a comment on my fics this year! y'all truly kept me going in these trying times, and i'm hoping for a better 2022 for all of us!
anyway i'm proud of how much i managed to write this year despite riverdale canon providing very little inspiration, so i thought i'd do a round up.
right back where we started from (3/12) i started a new WIP this year! my bugvarchie the O.C. AU feat. core four friendship has been so fun to write tho the slowburn has been killing me. can't wait to make varchie and bughead smooch. bugvarchie endgame!
I posted two new chapters of my ongoing WIP Exhale (18/23) in 2021, chapter 17 and chapter 18. i'm so grateful to readers who have been invested in this story since 2018!
@riverdalepromptathon gave me a reason to write a few different codas to existing fics that i'm proud of:
familiar places (1/1), a fluffy bughead moment within the Pop Tate, Working Class Hero universe (in which Pop's is worker-owned.)
do you think i'm being foolish if i don't rush in? (1/1), a dinner party with Bughead and the gang three years after if it feels like a home
feel it all around (1/1), a prompt fill for @lucivar showing Bughead through the years as seen, told, and observed by the ensemble cast of do you like or like like me?
other fandom events gave me inspiration to expand my horizons too!
under the boardwalk (1/1), @riverdalepocweek gave me a great excuse to expand on a universe i created for the @riverdaleprideandjoyzine. i love my gurl Melody Valentine and it was fun to write some more about the Pussycats and my boy Munroe.
four years later (1/1) the @aceandnancy @nancydrewcentral Nace Appreciation Week event inspired me to finally write my first Nace fic! Private investigators going undercover as lovers felt like a good way to kick off writing for that pairing ;)
and the holidays gave me an excuse to get festive, including the time honored tradition of Bughead Secret Santa!
friendsgiving 2012 (2/2), a Thanksgiving coda to do you like or like like me? set during Bughead and the gang's freshman year of college.
you can count on me (2/3), my fake dating tropefest @bugheadsecretsanta gift for @theheavycrown, which i'm working on finishing as soon into the new year as i can (the last chapter is set during new years so I'm soaking up all the inspo I can and going out with a writing bang!)
2022 writing plans:
Exhale: i don't make too many promises when it comes to this fic anymore, but i do plan to update. i'll do an annual 4/20 update for sure, but hopefully more!
right back where we started from: i plan to finish writing chapter 4 early in the new year, and am hoping to make some progress in general! there are a lot of exciting moments in the ch 4-5-6-7 territory of my outline, so excited to write it.
Write more Nace! I'm really hoping to write for Nancy/Ace more in the new year, bc it was very fun and i'm hoping canon Nancy Drew is gonna deliver some serious inspo when it returns in January. also you can catch all my nace ranting @acesnancy, my ND sideblog
i have a longshot hope that i'll write more in the if it feels like a home universe but we shall see! you never know where 2022 might take us!
HAPPY NEW YEAR, and lots of love to everyone who makes fandom great! (Too many people to tag, i already tried.) 💖

Pilot/Episode 1: Patching Things Up With Pastiche & Fanfiction
Hi, hello, and the wait is finally over! My name is Blessie, and welcome to the first episode webisode log installation I've decided to call these things an episode for now because why not also let me know what do you actually call these things episode of The Science of Fanfiction, where we take a closer look into our beloved works of fanon because we've all got plenty of time to spare till Season 5. Before I continue, I would like to thank everyone who's liked and reblogged the last few posts before this one. It means a lot for a small and growing Tumblr user like me, and your support is something I cherish more than my modules. You guys rock!
Anyways, like with most things, we have to talk about the boring and bland stuff before we proceed with the fun stuff. For today, we are going to settle the difference between a couple of things: first being the confusion between pastiche and fanfiction; then the distinctions between tropes, clichés, and stereotypes, which we'll tackle the next time. It's important for us to establish their true meanings in order for us to really understand what fanfiction truly is, even if it's merely just a work done for the fandom. I know – it's boring, it's something that shouldn't be expounded that much, but I believe that all forms of writing (unless it's plagiarised) is a work of art — and fanfiction is not something we always talk about. I hope that by the end of this, you'll learn about what they really are as much as I did. Let's begin to talk about the—
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A flashback of John (left) and Sherlock (right) finding an elephant (not in the screen) in a room in The Sign of Three. End ID]
. . . I did say that this GIF will always have to make an appearance here, didn't I?
So, just as with Sherlock Holmes, all other works of fiction have their own pastiches and fanfiction, and many more original works out there have taken inspiration from them to create their own books. Although they've gained popular attention, this will not be possible if they did not have taken inspiration from the materials their writers had at the time.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Various actors as Dracula. Jeremy Brett in 'Dracula' (1978) (upper left), Adam Sandler in a voice role for 'Hotel Transylvania' (2012) (upper right), Gary Oldman in 'Dracula' (1992) (lower left), and Bela Lugosi in 'Dracula' (1933) (lower right). End ID]
For instance, Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' (the second most adapted literary character, next to the consulting detective himself) has been portrayed on the screen over 200 times — from Gary Oldman to Adam Sandler — and has spawned off numerous books and pastiches of its own such as Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot'. Its cultural impact served as a basis of how we see vampires today, since some characteristics of the Count were made by Stoker himself. Stoker's creation is the brainchild of his predecessors and inspirations.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Vlad the Impaler (left) and a book cover of 'Carmilla' by J. Sheridan Le Fanu (right). End ID]
Other than the ongoing hysteria over dead back then and the existing vampire folklore, Stoker also took his inspirations from the published books on vampires he had at hand. He is said to have taken inspiration from Vlad the Impaler, a Romanian national hero known allegedly for having impalement as his favourite method of torture. He is also said to have been inspired by the J. Sheridan Le Fanu's 'Carmilla', a Gothic lesbian vampire novella that predates Dracula by 26 years. I could go on, but hey, we're going back to Sherlock Holmes now before I deviate any further. However, if you want to know about Dracula's literary origins, I suggest you watch Ted-ED's videos about the subject matter such as this one or this one.
Very much like Stoker, ACD didn't just conceive Holmes on his own. He took his own inspirations from what he had available at the time.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Dr Joseph Bell (left) and Edgar Allan Poe (right). End ID]
As we all know, ACD's biggest inspiration for Sherlock Holmes was one of his teachers at the Edinburgh University, Joseph Bell. He was famous for his powers of deduction, and he was also interested in forensic science — both characteristics which Holmes is greatly known for. He also drew inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's sleuth, C. Auguste Dupin ('The Purloined Letter' & 'Murders in Rue Morgue'). As ACD himself has said at the 1909 Poe Centennial Dinner: "Where was the detective story until Poe breathed life into it?" Some other writers he took after are Wilkie Collins, Émile Gaboriau, and Oscar Wilde.
Now, what does this say about us Sherlockians/Holmesians (depending if you're the coloniser or the one that was colonised)? Basically, ACD laid the groundwork for us with Sherlock Holmes: his humble abode 221B that he shares with his flatmate Dr. John Watson, his adventures, memoirs, return, casebook, last vow, and all that. Now that we have this material at hand, we can now make our own versions, takes, or even original stories featuring the characters of the Canon. Our inspiration comes from ACD's Sherlock Holmes, and we now get the chance to make our very own stories/conspiracy theories about them.
As I have mentioned earlier, Sherlock Holmes is the most adapted literary character in history. He has been adapted in over 200 films, more than 750 radio adaptations, a ballet, 2 musicals; and he's become a mouse, a woman, a dog, even a bloody cucumber. On top of all that are numerous pastiches and fanfics, and finally, we have arrived at the main topic of our post!
Fanfiction and pastiche are often confused together since they have three common elements: they take after the original work, they usually use the characters in that original work, and more often than not do are they set in that same time frame/period or not long after that. The common misconception is that pastiche are printed fanfiction, which is only partly true. While pastiche is definitely fanfiction in some ways and vice versa, there are fanfictions out there that aren't necessarily classified as pastiche that have been published.
Let's get on with our definition of terms to clear up the confusion a little more. Pastiche, according to Literary Terms, is:
. . . a creative work that imitates another author or genre. It’s a way of paying respect, or honor, to great works of the past. Pastiche differs from parody in that pastiche isn’t making fun of the works it imitates – however, the tone of pastiche is often humorous.
A good example of a pastiche is Sophie Hannah's 'The Monogram Murders', which is her take from Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A book cover of 'The Monogram Murders' by Sophie Hannah. End ID.]
Although this was a commission from Christie's estate, it's still considered as a pastiche as:
It's takes after Christie's writing style;
It is set in the early years of Poirot's career (1929), which is still within the time frame that the author wrote him in;
It features Poirot and;
It pays respect to Christie in a sense that it stays true to her (Christie) characters and way of storytelling.
Meanwhile, our good and slightly unreliable friend Wikipedia defines fanfiction as:
. . . is fictional writing written by fans, commonly of an existing work of fiction. The author uses copyrighted characters, settings, or other intellectual property from the original creator(s) as a basis for their writing. [It] ranges from a couple of sentences to an entire novel, and fans can both keep the creator's characters and settings and/or add their own. [ . . . ] [It] can be based on any fictional (and sometimes non-fictional) subject. Common bases for fanfiction include novels, movies, bands, and video games.
To avoid any copyright infringement issues if I ever use a popular fanfic in the fandom, we'll use my (unfinished and unpopular) Sherlock Wattpad fic, 'Play Pretend'. You can read it here.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The second self-made book cover of Blessie/shezzaspeare's 'Play Pretend'. End ID]
Why is it considered a fanfiction and not a pastiche?
It takes after an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (BBC Sherlock) which is a TV show, not the ACD canon itself;
The author (in this case myself) uses her own writing style and does not take after the original story's style;
Although it is set well in modern-day London and after Season 4, it also features scenes decades before the actual fanfic is set and outside of London;
I added a considerable number of characters, i.e. siblings to canon characters;
I had my own take some of the canon characters' personality especially after the events of Sherrinford;
It is written by a fan – myself. It is a work of fan labour and;
It is only a work of fanon, and isn't likely going to be considered by the show as its writing style is different from the actual show.
To put it simply, you can have more freedom in a fanfiction as it does not necessarily restrict you to follow or take after the original stories. Alternate universes (AUs) such as Unilock and Teenlock are perfect examples of this thing.
So can a pastiche be classified as fanfiction? Yes.
Can a fanfiction be classified as pastiche? Not all the time.
What's the difference? While yes, they share the basics, pastiche is technically leans more onto the original work's fundamental elements whereas fanfiction is a broader range of works inspired by the original work but doesn't necessarily follow all or any of its fundamental elements.
In order for us to understand it more, I'll give another example.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The 'Enola Holmes' title card (upper left) and Henry Cavill as its Sherlock holmes (upper right). Underneath it is a a scene from the opening titles of BBC Sherlock (lower left) and Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes in A Scandal In Belgravia. (lower right) End ID]
Most of you are familiar with these 21st-century adaptations of Holmes: the 2020 adaptation of Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes books and BBC Sherlock, which needs no further explanation – but for those who don't know, it's basically Holmes and the gang if they were alive today. I specifically chose these two as they are the ones that I believe would get my points across best. Though both are considered as wonderful pastiches with a well-rounded cast and awesome visuals, if we break them down bit by bit, we'll see which one is more of a pastiche and which one is more of a fanfic. (Yes, I know they're both screen adaptations. However, as Enola Holmes was based on the books and BBC Sherlock's fanfiction has the show's scenes written out in most fanfics, hear me out.)
They share these characteristics of a pastiche:
They feature characters from the Canon (Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, and Lestrade);
They have additional characters added by the writers (Including but not limited to Molly Hooper, Eurus Holmes, and Philip Anderson for BBC Sherlock while Enola Holmes has Lord Tewkesbury, Eudoria Holmes, and Enola herself) and;
They pay respect to the original Canon as their stories are based on the cases (BBC Sherlock) or simply what was going on around them (Enola Holmes).
They also share these characteristics of a fanfic:
They are made by enthusiasts of Sherlock Holmes (Moffat has called himself and Mark Gatiss 'Sherlock Holmes geeks', while Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes books are not just one or two but six);
They follow a common trope (we'll discuss these tropes in the following episodes) that goes on in the fandom (Sherlock's Sister & Modern AU)
They are based on a fictional subject (Sherlock Holmes);
They used characters and story elements that are copyrighted by the author/author's estate (fun fact: prior to the production of Enola Holmes, the Conan Doyle Estate filed a lawsuit against Springer & Netflix over Sherlock's emotions since he was more 'sympathetic' than he was portrayed in the Canon – this was later dismissed by both parties) and;
Their writing styles don't necessarily follow ACD's.
Despite these similarities, there are very obvious differences between the two that separates them from being a pastiche and a fanfiction.
Enola Holmes embodies pastiche more as it doesn't stray far away from the original elements of the Canon. It's still set in Victorian England. While Springer added characters of her own and definitely twisted the Canon to suit her series, she didn't necessarily place them out of the social construct that was going on around the characters. It follows ACD's writing style more as Enola Holmes' setting still remains within the Canon's original setting.
Meanwhile, we can safely say that BBC Sherlock is a work of fanfiction. While it did give us The Abominable Bride, the main series focused on Holmes and Watson in 21st-century England, which is drastically different from Victorian England. There are phones, black cabs, and cellphones — things which ACD Sherlock Holmes doesn't have. It also diverted from the Canon in the characters themselves, which is mostly seen in the names: Henry Baskerville became Henry Knight, Charles Augustus Milverton became Charles Augustus Magnussen, the H in Dr Watson's name stood for Hamish and Sherlock's full name is actually William Sherlock Scott Holmes. They also changed the personalities of some Canon characters: Mary was actually an ex-assassin, Mrs Hudson was an exotic dancer who drove a kick-ass sports car, Irene Adler is a dominatrix, to name a few. Moffat and Gatiss created a world of their own featuring the characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which is really what most of us fanfic writers do with Mofftiss' rendition of Holmes.
In conclusion: while pastiche and fanfiction could have been the same thing, they're actually not. There's more to them that just printed fanfiction or pastiche e-books, and we all should take some time to see and observe them in a closer perspective.
And that's it for our first episode! I hope you enjoyed it. It was a lot fun for me to write this, especially now that I'm only starting. I would also like to note that while intensive research has been done on this series, some parts of this comes from my own observation and opinion, which may vary from yours. I am very much open to criticism, as long as it is said in a polite and civil manner. I'm still young, and to be educated as I go is something that could really help me with this series.
Like and reblog this you like it. It helps out a lot. Be sure to follow me as well and the tags underneath if you want to see more of TSoF.
See you soon!

The World Meets Nancy Hudson - 1
Inspired by and dedicated to Crissy622 on the clue crew discord server! Thank you so much for coming up with the idea for an au episode where Lucy and Ryan raised Nancy! And for allowing me to steal your idea and make it my own. This was such an easy chapter for me to write, and I absolutely could not have done it without your amazing idea!
Also big thanks to my tag list: @turtleduck-enthusiast, @faithfire, @simply-simptastic, for showing their interest in this fic and giving me even more motivation to write because of their excitement!
Disclaimer: I don’t own Nancy Drew, and all mistakes are my own.
Chapter One: The Predicament of the Heir
Lucy looked at her newborn baby in Kate and Carson’s arms before turning back toward the sea, her baby would be better off with them, a stable loving home. Ryan wanted nothing to do with her, and his family even less. She looked down imagining everyone’s life without her before moving closer to the edge. Her foot slipped on a wet part of the cliff, and she felt herself start to tumble over…
A strong hand gripped her and pulled her back up, Kate smiled at her, “it’s going to be okay.”
Nancy rolled over in her new bed, it still felt too big and too soft, if that makes any sense at all? She pulled on her Claw uniform and headed downstairs for breakfast. She stopped in her tracks when the only person in the huge Hudson mansion dining room was her grandfather, Everett. He was reading the paper and drinking some orange juice at the huge table. A nice spread of food, made by the Hudson’s staff on the table looked nice and appetizing, but she hesitated in the doorway anyway. “Are you going to stand there forever?” Everett inquired. Nancy rolled her eyes, “No I just don’t have that much time before work.” She said putting a big emphasis on work. Everett harumphed, but she didn’t get a rise out of him. Ever since her parents and her had moved back in with Ryan’s parents, he had made it clear what he thought of his granddaughter working and putting off applying to college. Bit rich Nancy thought, since he never wanted her to exist in the first place.
Kate and Carson took Lucy and newborn Nancy back to their house. Lucy still had no idea how to tell her mother and brother that she had a child now, and she for sure was never going to tell Ryan, after what he said in his last email, and then missing their planned meeting. “You can stay with us.” Kate assured her, “for as long as you need.” Lucy had no idea how to repay them and was so grateful, but still felt the urge that maybe she should have gone over that cliff. “You’re going to be a great mom” Kate whispered to her, before ushering her and Nancy into one of their guest rooms. “I’m going on a supply run to get things for Nancy.” Carson said, before running out to get a crib, diapers and other essentials. Lucy sat down on the bed, and looked at the newborn in her arms, “alright little girl” She whispered. “it’s you and me.”
Nancy stopped by the auto shop before work to see Nick. “Hey Uncle Josh,” she said upon seeing her uncle hard at work when she entered. “Is Nick upstairs?” “Yeah.” Josh replied, engrossed in his work. “But he’s with someone” he said. “Someone came by to see him.” “Oh?” Nancy said stopping in her tracks. “Yeah, I didn’t recognize her.” Josh said. “Well, I won’t bother him then.” Nancy said, “I’ve got to get to work anyway, thanks Uncle Josh.” “Sure.” Josh said, he seemed kind of distracted. “Hey um…” he called out after her, as she was almost to the door. “You know I love you kid, right? I want what’s best for you.” Nancy smiled sadly. “I know Uncle Josh, I’m sure Mom will apologize soon, this ugliness will be over.” “Yeah.” Josh said with a sigh. “I wish I could get you guys out from the Hudson’s thumb somehow…” “Don’t forget” Nancy said. “I’m a Hudson too, I can handle them.” “You’re also a Sable” Josh reminded her. “That’s the part of you that you should hold on to.”
Ryan finally made it away from boarding school, the night after Lucy was crowned Sea Queen. He hoped Lucy wasn’t too mad at him for not making it to their spot last night, but he couldn’t get away. She had stopped emailing him back, but maybe he could make some sort of grand gesture once he saw her in person. He stopped by her house first, but Patrice said that she never came home last night. He stopped by the ice cream parlor, although he didn’t know why she would be there now, since he stood her up there last night. Finally, he decided to try her friend Karen’s house. “Hi, I’m looking for Lucy” he said when Karen answered the door. “We’re not exactly speaking at the moment” Karen said not bothering to keep the contempt out of her voice. “Look I know you don’t like me…” Ryan said. “That’s an understatement.” Karen said. “Why can’t you see you’re toxic for Lucy? She’d be much better off if you and your family weren’t in her life.” “I’m just trying to find her.” Ryan said. “Again, hell if I know where she is” Karen said, slamming the door in his face.
“Wow not late for once” George said upon Nancy’s entrance to The Claw. “All your rich girl friends die or something?” “Ha ha.” Nancy said, not amused. “I need you to work late tonight.” George said. “I’m supposed to go see the fireworks…” Nancy protested. “You can think of it as a makeup, for all those times you were late.” George said. Nancy sighed. She pulled out her phone to text her godfather, Carson.
Nancy: Sorry have to work late, going to miss the fireworks. But I’ll see if Dad or Mom could accompany you?
Carson: That’s okay, wanted to skip anyway. It’s not the same.
Nancy: I know but you shouldn’t have to grieve alone.
Carson: Don’t worry about me kiddo, I’ll be okay.
Nancy wasn’t sure what to say to reply, of course she was worried about him, he recently lost his wife to cancer, when she heard a crash. “I’ll help you clean up Bess.” She heard Ace say from the kitchen. She rolled her eyes, same old Ace and Bess.
After what felt like forever searching for Lucy, and trying to email and call her, Ryan finally remembered that Lucy mentioned becoming closer with her guidance counselor as things were getting bad. He hesitated at the front door of the Drew residence before knocking. Carson, his father’s lawyer, answered the door. “You’re looking for Lucy.” He said, it didn’t sound like a question, but Ryan nodded anyway. “I’ll see if she wants to talk to you.” Carson said. “Come on in.”
Nancy felt like her work shift was never ending, and wished it would pass sooner. Maybe she should have called her mom to go check on Carson, even if he didn’t want to watch the fireworks. It didn’t help that there was a storm, and that the Claw was basically dead. She pulled her phone out of her pocket, and set it up to record the fireworks. Maybe Carson would change his mind and the four of them could watch it later, in honor of Kate. Although she barely knew if her dad would have any time since he spent all his time now working for Everett’s company. As if thinking of her dad summoned him, Ryan entered the Claw with what she assumed was business partners and people he was trying to make a deal with. Ugh, she had told him to stop bringing business meetings here, it seems like he was forcing his way back into her life, like that could ease the newfound problems with their relationship. She ducked back into the kitchen. “George” she whispered. “What Hudson?” George asked. “Can you take the table?” She asked. “I just need a minute.” “What table?” George asked. “I was going to close early because of the weather.” “It’s my dad,” Nancy said. “Ugh fine.” George said rolling her eyes. “I guess he’s never heard of other restaurants.”
Ryan sat awkwardly in the Drew living room while Carson went upstairs to get Lucy. The living room was strewn with diapers and baby toys, and a half-finished crib. Did the Drews have a baby? Ryan couldn’t remember. Lucy came downstairs without Carson, but he could still hear Carson upstairs, it sounded like he was trying to soothe someone. “What are you doing here?’ Lucy asked angrily. “I’ll back off and never speak to you again, I got your message loud and clear.” “What?” Ryan asked. “I’m sorry I missed our meet-up yesterday, I couldn’t get away, look I know how scary my dad is, but I did want to see you, and if you’re still in, I’m still in. I love you.” It was Lucy’s turn to look shocked. “What about your last email? You called me a....” She trailed off, and mouthed the bad word at him. “I didn’t say that.” Ryan said. “I would never call you that.” “Oh” Lucy said sinking down on the couch next to him. “In that case, I have something I have to tell you.”
Nancy took a deep breath before bringing over the drinks to her dad’s table. Its not that she minded that he always wanted to introduce her to his business partners, he always sounded really proud of her, no matter what Everett said about her working here, it was just the only time they talked and he seemed to think that was enough. Before her dad went back to her grandfather’s company, they had the closest relationship. But now… Everything had felt off since her godmother Kate died, and then to make matters worse, her parents just decided to move in with Everett and Celia without consulting her. And even worse, they abandoned Carson right when he needed them the most. “Hi, your drinks.” She said to the table, placing everyone’s drinks in front of them. “Hi honey.” Ryan said. “Everyone I want you to meet my incredible, brilliant, beautiful daughter, Nancy. She’s the Claw’s best employee, I guess someone was able to teach her the value of hard work.” Nancy nodded and smiled and shook everyone at the table’s hand. Hard work, like running back to your daddy’s blood money with no explanation?
“How did you even hide that for nine months?” It was Ryan’s turn to be angry. He got up off the couch and paced around the room. “And in all of that time, you didn’t think to send a message that said Hey I’m pregnant? Its yours?!?” “Well I was going to tell you yesterday” Lucy said getting defensive. “Literally the day you had my baby?” Ryan asked. “Our child? Emphasis on our?” Lucy brushed a tear away that fell down her cheek. “I wanted to but your dad he threatened my life, he didn’t want me in your life. It feels like no one does, like I shouldn’t even be here.” That was enough to get Ryan to stop pacing around the room. “That’s not true.” Ryan said. “I want you here, I love you. I’m sorry, we’ll get through this together, my dad and parenthood and everything. We’re in this together.” He squeezed Lucy’s hand. Together.” Lucy agreed. “Do you want to meet your daughter?”
Nancy walked back into the kitchen. It seemed that Ace had just abandoned Ryan’s salad, on the counter to go help Bess with a spill. Well, at least it would be impossible for him to get Ryan’s order wrong, since he ordered the same thing every time. She grabbed it along with everyone else’s orders and brought it over to the table. “Thanks sweetie.” Ryan said, taking a big bite of his salad. “Delicious as always.” Nancy smiled at him and headed back to sit in the kitchen. After they had finished their meal, and what Nancy assumed was a good deal for Hudson Enterprises, Ryan came back into the kitchen to talk to her. “Look I know you don’t really like when I bring business here…” he started. “I don’t really like you doing this business at all Dad.” Nancy said, not keeping the anger out of her voice. “I know sweetie.” Ryan said. “Hopefully it will be all over soon.” “What do you mean?” Nancy asked. “Are you leaving Hudson enterprises?” Ryan blinked at her and swayed on his feet a little. “Dad, are you okay?” Nancy asked. “Yeah, just feeling a little off suddenly.” He said. “I have some Tylenol in my car.” Nancy said handing him the keys. “Why don’t you go grab some? You never remember to take any when you feel bad.” “Yeah, thanks sweetie.” Ryan said. “Love you.”
Lucy brought Ryan upstairs to where Carson was taking care of Nancy. “Wow that’s her.” Ryan said awestruck. Carson handed her to him, and Nancy wrapped her hand around Ryan’s finger. “My little girl.” Ryan whispered. “You’re never going to go through what I went through with my father.”
The rest of Ryan’s table sat talking and laughing, but it seemed like it was taking forever for Ryan to run out to the car, so Nancy stepped outside to check on him. “Dad?’ She called out. “Dad?” Her car looked untouched, but it was hard to tell with the storm. Something felt off, like an unnatural presence. She approached the driver’s side of the car, that when she noticed someone face down in the parking lot. Her dad. “Dad?’ She said more urgent this time, trying to shake him awake. “Dad?”
A/N: Thanks for reading! Hope you all don’t hate me too much for immediately poisoning Ryan. He is an important part of this fic, I promise, and his relationship with Lucy and them raising Nancy will be the driving force of the flashbacks! I’m not sure how many chapters it will be, but I do have an end in mind, so stay tuned. Please let me know if you want to be added to the tag list, or if you want to take yourself off (if its not your vibe I totally get it).

CHAPTER 1 ~ dress up
You never intended to end up at this Halloween party. You didn't even know who to expect to see here, other than your roommate's friend from high school, the host, who had invited y'all as a package deal even though she knew you didn't really do parties. At least not ones like hers, where every bedroom ended up occupied by the end of the night and nearly no one went home alone. Thrilled to break out of your lame group of friends for a taste of flirtation and fun, you tried to relax into the scene but the unspoken expectation of casual sex intimidated you the tiniest bit.
Speaking of casual sex, there was Jungkook.
Used to admiring him from afar in your "14 Films To See Before You Graduate" class, you paused to take in the sight of him in what you supposed was a more natural habitat. Everyone knew Jungkook got girls, thanks to the rumor his first freshman-year hookup had started about his seriously impressive dick. He had a beautiful body too, carefully crafted muscles obvious even beneath his usual baggy black clothes, so as the more intimate rumors spread and various co-signers confirmed every detail from length to curve to (you had always hated this word, but...) girth, getting a piece of all that became a badge of honor among the girls in your grade. You had never really understood how the awkward boy who hid manga under his desk in class could supposedly be such a sex symbol, but you almost felt bad for him. That kind of reputation following you around everywhere couldn't be all fun and games. If anything, though, it had intrigued you even more about the rest of him, all his little weeb quirks and the way he debated your points in the discussion boards like he actually cared. He wasn't exactly studious in general, but he clearly loved film and you enjoyed speaking up in class just to see how he would jump off of your observations. You hadn't really talked to him other than that, but he didn't seem to be talking to anyone else tonight either. From the corner, you let yourself appreciate the way his nervous hands tugged at the skinny black tie of his costume, freeing more of his throat from a thin yellow button-down shirt.
At least you no longer felt overdressed in your Nancy Drew outfit. The retro headband, brown loafers, and bookish plaid knee-length skirt set a much more sophisticated tone than most other ensembles you'd seen, but Jungkook's weeb ass had basically worn a full suit to channel Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. With his grown-out hair tousled and a navy pinstripe jacket cinched tight with two strips of electrical tape over his tiny waist, you couldn't deny that he rocked it. He leaned against a long plastic table left in the hallway, bobbing his head to the music in the next room and adjusting the too-slim suit pants around his thick thighs. His translucent cup stayed hidden behind a hip until he raised it quickly to his face for another sip of...red wine? Probably Franzia, knowing tonight's crowd, but anything was better than beer. You made a beeline for the one boy with taste at this party, your sole mission now to get wine drunk, sneak some Usher throwbacks on this playlist, and drop it low enough to leave some dude hard on the dance floor. #wastehistime2019, yknow.
"Hey!" You got his attention, grabbing the hand with the cup before he could lower it out of view again. His eyes grew comically wide and his mouth formed an "o" in shock before you demanded "Where is the wine?" and he pressed his lips back into a line, stuttering.
"I-I-I'm sorry, I just brought a bottle because the beer here sucks but I think it's all gone by now, I tried to hide it but yeah anyway you can have the rest of this one if you want though." Wincing at his own ramble, he ruffled the retro pouf of his hair with one hand and proffered the plastic cup in another. Both actions highlighted how pretty his hands were and you were just slightly tipsy enough to thread your fingers over his in the also-pretty black waves falling over his yep-still-just-as-pretty cheekbones.
"Aw, it's okay, I don't want to take your wine. No more liquid courage for me," you grinned, dotting the lightest kiss on his nose. It was an innocent gesture, but as your face naturally lowered so your noses touched, leaving your lips centimeters away from each other, something snapped—in him.
His wine discarded on the table, a hand curled around to clutch your ass and you practically felt his tongue before you felt his lips. Slamming your body abruptly into his, he nudged a thigh between your legs to grind it up on your center and as your arm got caught between your bodies, the tension you sensed filling his frame gave you pause. You pushed him away gently but firmly with the hand already flattened against his rock-solid abs. Looking down at the slight space restored between y'all, you removed his hands from his hair and your ass and laced them in yours to guide him back against the wall.
"I...what was that?" you almost giggled. You definitely weren't trying to laugh at him, but you couldn't hide your surprise at this first potential proof of his fuckboy reputation.
"I'm—" his whole face crumpled, both from the simple sting of your seeming rejection and the possibility that he had broken a boundary or forced himself on you against your wishes, which made him so sick he could barely face you. Squirming under your light hold but not quite resisting, he rambled again: "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to force myself on you or anything, don't worry I would never try anything if you didn't want to, I just figured we might as well get to the point if you did because, uh...when girls touch me like that or even talk to me at these things it's pretty much always just because they...want to."
"Jungkook," you breathed, pulsing your hands over his in reassurance. He squeezed his eyes shut, still distraught, and when they opened, you had craned your neck to meet his averted gaze.
"I never said I didn't want to."
His eyes widened again. "Uh...uh...then..." he trailed off, never having needed to directly proposition a girl like this before. He really had been inexperienced before the rapid escalation of college, and was at a loss for how to get to the good stuff from here via anything more eloquent than a rushed "Wanna fuck?" You shook your head silently, nose grazing his again, and let go of one hand to cup his face with care, like he was something precious you were scared of breaking.
"What? You want to get right to fucking me?" you murmured into his ear. He shivered at hearing you curse for the first time, freed from the constraints of class discussions and closer than he ever guessed you'd get to him. "Is that really what you want? Or is it what you think I do? Because if it's alright, I think I want something better. For you."
You pressed a new kiss to his nose, only slightly stronger than the one that had started all this. He held his breath and his untouched, open mouth trembled as you scattered soft introductions of your lips across his forehead, to his temples, over the scar that sliced his cheekbone. Finally inhaling a skittery heave of your shared air as you passed closer to his lips, he forced it back out in frustration when you ducked away to nudge under his jaw instead. Returning your hand to his hair, you grinned, enjoying the spike in his pulse under your thumb and skipping the tip of your tongue lightly over his neck right up to the earlobe. You lifted the choppy ends of his waves away from the dangly silver hoop they hid, tensing the strands just slightly between your fingers in an inability to hide your glee. Something told you this was going to drive him crazy.
Taking a slight detour to suck his pierced lobe between your lips, you responded to Jungkook’s low moan of surprise by wedging your tongue through the first oversized hole and letting your teeth clatter over multiple rings of metal. He was trying so hard to stay pliant under you, but the tease of slight pain in a new and unusual spot made him want your mouth more, anywhere he could get it. No one had ever spent this much time tracing so few inches of skin.
And so many girls had buried his face in their necks, craving evidence of an encounter with the Jeon Jungkook, that a strange kind of empathy caught him off guard when you showed him how good it could feel to receive. You connected your lips to the hollow right under his ear, feeling the tendons stretch as his head lolled away from you. Working him through a cascade of light gasps, you stepped away satisfied once you had sucked a dark bloom to the surface. He watched you leave with his mouth agape and chest heaving, unable to believe you could just walk away with a wave and a "See you in class!"
But you did, and he would.
"Shit!" he swore, a shaky hand darting straight to the spot. Now he had to keep his hair long for at least another two or three days. If he showed up to discussion on Monday and had to watch you admiring your work on his skin, he would probably just die on the spot. And that would not be very Spike Spiegel of him.

Tumblr media
                                          THE GUIDELINES
The objective of the Drabblefest is to publish as much fanfiction as possible for a fandom that desperately needs it!
Find a prompt you like on the list and just write something. There are only two requirements: it has to be at least drabble length (but it can be as long as you want!) and the main pairing has to be Ace/Nancy.
Anyone can participate at any skill level. Even if you have never written a fic before or if it’s been years…give it a try.
You can use as many prompts as you want. You can also combine prompts. There is no limit to the amount of prompts you can use and more than one person can use the same prompts. Make sure you mention the prompt in your author notes.
Please tag your fics #nacedrabblefest so that they can be reblogged.
If you cross-post to Archive of Our Own, please tag your fics as part of the 2020 Ace/Nancy Fall Drabblefest. You can also add a link back to the blog if you want. It may encourage more participation.

Meet the Author: tied.knots
Tumblr media
Hi, tied.knots!
Stories can be found here.
Twitter.
__________
When did you start writing Olitz? 2018, after the show ended.
Tell us about yourself! What do you want readers to know about you? I'm from the Philippines, the capital which is Manila specifically. I feel like there's not that many scandal and olitz shippers from where I'm from and I haven't interacted with a local scandal fan haha. Greys and HTGWM are very much more popular here so I guess there's that. I'm basically your regular Millenial girl - balancing work, bills, finances, shopping, the pros and cons of single life hahaha. That's it. I live a boring life!
What drew you to Olivia and Fitz? Firstly, a lot is really credited to Kerry and Tony's chemistry. They seriously have the most potent chemistry that I have ever seen when it comes to tv couples and it's very hard to forget combined with their great acting. I feel like they were really born to play Olivia and Fitz. Next would be the very raw, deeply flawed, and realistic portrayal of their epic love story but dysfunctional relationship. Olitz is a very controversial couple. I would even argue that it is Shonda's most controversial couple in Shondaland. When you go outside of the fandom, they are deeply hated to this day and people have a lot of energy (and apparently are willing to spend their time) to criticize them. But all that hatred and negativity towards them shows how very spot on their story was. There's a lot that could have been improved on but the issues that stemmed out of their relationship and their flaws I think resonated with many people which is why a lot hated them. For a ship to get so much hate even years after show ended, it goes to show that a lot really payed attention to them and were moved by their story. ps. you don't get that much attention with olake haha. that pairing appears to be only relevant when it involves fitz/olitz.
What made you want to write about them? I was really hoping that someone would write a long-form post-canon fic about them. I really thought their ending would spark a slew of fanfic! So with its absence and after back-and-forth consultation with my writer friend, Nina, I decided to just go on and write (my very first attempt ever!) what I would want to read. Canon olitz doesn't have a good rep understandably but there's really a lot of room to unpack in it and at the same time get a deeper insight on why Liv and Fitz acted that way during the show. There's still a lot of story to tell because as cheesy as this sounds Liv and Fitz storyline as seen in scandal will never be over.
How would you describe your writing? Angsty, problematic, realistic, raw, hopeful even when it feels not (I hope I do convey these!)
What inspires you to write / create? Olivia and Fitz characterization and their relationship in the show.
Favorite movies, shows, music?
Films - In the mood for love, Fight Club, Parasite, Clueless, Bridget Jones Diary lol. Any films really by Wong Kar Wai, Davin Fincher, and Nancy Meyer
Shows - Sex and the City, The OC, Succession, Skins UK 1st and 2nd Gen
Music - Too many but mainly The Strokes, Daft Punk, The XX, Phoenix, Britney, Kylie Minoque, etc.
How long does it take you to write a chapter? It really varies! The shortest was like 2 weeks-ish and the longest was like 8 or 9 months. Aside from how my life is going, it really highly depends on my mood towards the subject-Olivia and Fitz. Admittedly I'm an on-and-off shipper, sometimes I enjoy them or get in my feels and then there are times that I highly dislike and regret shipping them to the point that I wish they never got back together or argue that Fitz should have been written off the show. Writing for me is very mood based.
Did the show's themes and plots encourage you or discourage you from writing? Encourage.
Writing AU or Canon? Canon.
Reading AU or Canon: Canon.
________
A favorite line, scene, or paragraph you’ve written.
"Fitz back then always thought that once he has fulfilled his father’s predetermined life for him at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave that he’ll be back home to this cozy beach town. That was of course before that one fateful day on February in New Hampshire when a tornado stormed into his life that was ornamented by the California sun." (Chapter 3)
To me, it sounds nice when you read it haha Their fight scene in chapter 10. Even before finishing chapter 1, I knew that I was going to write a big fight scene and one that is similar to 509. It's a very very important scene to me.
________
Fave Olitz moments? The 'I hate you. I hate you too' phone call, 'I would cross that line again', those small moments when you could see how deeply and conflicted in love Olivia was (eg. watching him and Mellie dance during the first inauguration ball) - Liv is known to be not "accepting" of their love and whether she love him or not was always questioned, but a lot her actions and expressions when you look back showed how deeply she fell in love with him.
Fave Olitz fanfic moments? I forgot the title and the author but there was this one shot back then about Olivia who decided to end her engagement to Jake because she had unresolved feelings for Fitz. This fic took place a year I think after Fitz presidency. So she went all the way to Vermont regardless if it's years since her and Fitz last encounter and how bad their relationship ended - they fought about him going to war for her I think. So yeah she went all the way to Vermont not knowing what to expect and the writer did a good job of piecing them back together.
________
Do you like it when readers engage with you via comments / social media? Yes.
Story Reviews: Love them, hate them? BOTH! The reviews reminds of me of the live tweets when the show was on and the energy back then so I like that aspect. I appreciate readers that are grateful to authors and those that show how curious they are with the stories. I hate the intentional and consistent badmouthing to the point of bullying and creating competition among authors which made some quit or removed their stories. The nonstop attacks by some these "guest" reviewers really says a lot about their character. My friend Nina would always say that the writers don't owe themselves to anyone and that is highly true. We do it because we want to write and we make time for it without expecting anything in return really. Don't like it, then don't read it. Read and review the story you want to read then.
What advice would you give to a new Olitz writer? Just write! Don't care if you don't have experience at all or if you're too conscious about how not perfect your grammar is. The olitz fanfic community I think has a consistently growing audience so there will always be readers. Also most importantly, write the story that you want to tell. It is your work and only you will know how to go about it. Don't focus too much on the reviews/criticisms and don't let it solely dictate you on how to write your story.
Outside of your fics, do you have any fave Olitz stories or authors? PurplePineapple, torri.oats, Only You by anonolitz, that one shot I mentioned above.
Do you talk to other Olitz authors? If so, do you like the camaraderie? I've only interacted with like 2 I think hahaha. It's a very supporting and encouraging group! I think we're just excited to read each other's stories which is a nice feeling.
Have you made friends (people you talk to outside of fanfic) because of Olitz / Scandal fanfic? Yes and we've been friends for almost three years! She knows so much of my life honestly compared to my irl friends.
Before you go, anything else you'd like to share? Thank you for always supporting and encouraging olitz authors! You guys have a really good and organized system which is very helpful :))
ps. Beyond Whiskey is an olitz fanfic :))

2 and 27 for the writer/reader ask meme
Writer/Reader Ask Game
Doing these a little out of order since the answers are so uneven in length.
27: coffee shop AU or florist AU?
Hmmm... I have not really read either, to be honest! But both sound like very cute ideas and I love fix-it AUs as much as the next person. I think a Florist AU sounds adorable, though.
2: Which author has influenced you the most?
For published authors, there are so many. I've been reading most of my life; it's one of my longtime passions/obsessions. I'm going to go ahead and write an essay now, so, I hope you're happy with yourself! Lol!
The first author I am going to credit - and this is going to sound absolutely cheesy - is Doctor Seuss. These were the first books I picked up of my own volition and read entirely by myself. They increased my vocabulary exponentially within a very short timeframe, and in a matter of weeks, I was raiding my school library and checking out the maximum number of books allowed on a weekly basis.
It got to the point that within a year I had read nearly everything there, even held a school record for the Accelerated Reader Program for nearly a decade thereafter. Soon, my mom had to start driving me to my city's largest public library just to quench my thirst.
From Nancy Drew to Goosebumps to Harry Potter, my childhood favorites were mostly in the fiction and fantasy genres. But I would have to say the most influential author of my early life was Tamora Pierce, author of The Song of the Lioness series.
I found her books when I was in... I don't know, maybe second grade? Around age eight? I immediately became infatuated with the story, the characters, the world she built and its lore, and it has likely had the most influence over my preferences in both reading and writing throughout the rest of my life.
I have incredible respect for the authors who write Young Adult Fiction, particularly because so many of them drove my passion for literature. Before I was reading Austen and Dickens, Shakespeare and Homer, I was reading YA. As a genre, it is so varied, so accessible. If I didn't love writing adult themes so much, I might consider one day writing YA myself! Who knows, perhaps I will.
The last author I will credit here that influenced me in my adulthood is George R. R. Martin. (I'm going to ignore the Game of Thrones HBO series here and just pretend it doesn't exist.) A Song of Ice and Fire blew my mind. It inspired me in a way no series had in a long time (at least until I found The Expanse series - I'm a big fan of sci-fi as well as fantasy. But if I go into that this will be a much longer post lmao).
The plots, the subplots, the deep and complex characters, the immense Tolkein-level worldbuilding and lore, just ticked off every single box on my list. I love everything about it. If there is an author I want to emulate one day with my own original fiction, in the way of plot depth and worldbuilding, it is GRRM. And his work has even been cited as one of the inspirations for the Dragon Age series, my favorite game, and current (probably permanent) obsession!
So, there we have it.
Tl;dr - Dr. Seuss, Tamora Pierce, George R. R. Martin. The authors who have influenced and inspired me most as a reader and writer!
Honorable mentions to some fanfiction authors in the Dragon Age fandom that inspired me to start writing fic:
@ellenembee and @laraslandlockedblues are two of the first authors I found on AO3. Their fics and their OCs are just beautifully written. And I blame them both for my infatuation with Knight-Captain Rylen. I also have to give a shoutout to @kauriart.
Thank you, @queen-among-writers for the wonderful ask! I had a ton of fun writing this!

Director’s commentary Bark Tower Remix and Queer Eye
Well my main inspiration for the Bark Tower remix was that it was a gift for you and I wanted it to be something you would like! Also I loved the domestic fluff (with a side dish of scheming) that you wrote in the first place so I just wanted to do...more of that. Literal fluff! Because fur.
"What? What's not to like about dogs?"
"They're so...ugh, they lick you, and jump on you, and they have that smell, and you have to clean up after them…" Tony trailed off, a comical look of disgust on his face.
"Wow. Okay. So you're a cat person?"
"More of a robot person."
My take that I fear may be too hot for the internet is that I basically agree with Tony about dogs!! But I did my best to channel my inner Bruce and come up with a basic approximation of what’s theoretically appealing about dogs??? I mean they’re cute I guess?????? Also Bruce obviously loves them and I want Bruce to be happy!!!!!
Tony put his arm around Bruce's shoulders and said, "Aw, now that you mention it, I guess I do get the appeal of adopting strays."
"Oh yeah? So it's okay if I lick you and jump on you?"
"Mm-hmm, in fact, I encourage it. After you've washed the dog spit off your hands."
Seriously wash your hands, Bruce!! You don’t know where that dog has been.
"Hey, Bruce, I can walk your dogs, whenever you're busy," Steve said. Diogenes licked his face. "Do they need to be walked right now? I think we can adjourn the meeting."
Steve is basically a puppy so I’m glad he got a pack to bond to.
Tony crossed his arms. "Well, they can't sleep with us, Bruce, it's not hygenic. And I don't think there's even room for the big one."
Bruce nodded. "Sure, Tony, that's reasonable,” he said. “I'll pick up a couple of dog beds this afternoon."
The story ends shortly after this but for the record I believe that rule lasts for about 2.5 days before they’re sleeping in a cuddle pile of dogs.
As to the Queer Eye fic, that one definitely started from this Tumblr post that was inspired by all of those Bachelor AU posts that were going around and then after I made the initial post about it I just kept thinking about how much help Bruce needs!! It’s offensive to me that no one in canon has given Bruce this help!! He needs the Fab 5!!
My biggest problem with this was making sure to give dialogue to people other than Jonathan because Jonathan is my favorite obviously.
My favorite part about this was when I realized I could write it in script format and not have to worry about writing too much action/descriptors. Just dialogue! The best part of writing! It’s like when you go to college and realize no one will stop you from having soft serve ice cream at every meal!
JONATHAN:So it turns out that for national security reasons we can't show you any of Bruce's research! Also honestly I did not understand a single word he said after "um"! He's clearly a total genius babe though.
INT: LabBRUCE:...so, yeah, you probably shouldn't touch anything in here.
Plus ALSO I didn’t even have to TRY to write fake science! Why do I ever write anything besides this. So easy!
JONATHAN:You know Tony Stark is crazy rich, right? He could buy like a billion T-shirts.
BRUCE:Yeah….
JONATHAN:Like literally one billion T-shirts.
Literally.
JONATHAN:(Shuts door)You’re a doctor, right? Like a medical doctor?
BRUCE:Yes, I did a dual MD/PhD.
JONATHAN:Okay, so you have to help me out. I’m dying.
BRUCE:What’s wrong? What are your symptoms?
JONATHAN:I’m dying…of curiosity! Seriously, you’re telling me you and Tony are just friends? Just totally 100% platonic friends?
I really did give Jonathan all the best lines, huh.
BRUCE:Okay. If I get some different shampoo will you please stop yelling at me?
JONATHAN:No, I also need to tell you about essential oils! They’ll help you relax!
Nothing is funnier to me than Bruce getting calming essential oils.
KARAMO:You know what, so do I. But I still need to take a break once in awhile so I don’t get burned out. I like to work out, read, go out to shows...what do you like to do? Besides, you know, look through microscopes.
BRUCE:...Look through microscopes?
KARAMO:I'm sorry, I don't really understand what you do.
Me neither, Karamo.
KARAMO: I was waiting so long to do that! I've never met anybody who needed a hug more than Bruce Banner.
So true, Karamo.
JONATHAN:Full disclosure, before we left for the day, I went to spy on them in the living room and they were actually just watching Jeopardy. Not any canoodling at all! I could not believe.
ANTONI:I'm not sure you were as stealthy as you thought you were.
JONATHAN:How dare you, I was full Nancy Drew. No, I was full Lucy Liu in Charlie's Angels.
They definitely saw him but pretended that they didn’t.
On this specific project I was so lucky to meet and work with Tony Stark, whose brilliance is obviously well-known. But in addition to his technical expertise, he also treated me with such...humanity, during a time when that was in shorter supply, and that support kept me going through...through everything. And I know we're in some...some scary new times, but I just think that if there's anything that we as scientists, as humans, should keep in mind going forward, it's just that we're stronger together than we are apart.
I knew that the phrase “stronger together” was in my head from something but I didn’t figure out that it was from Hillary’s campaign until after I posted the story. But honestly Bruce Banner probably did the same thing when he was writing his speech, he’s #WithHer.
PS I wrote most of the first draft on my phone while traveling and a) it kind of fucked up my thumb and b) taught my autocorrect to assume that any time I type “B” I’m going to say “BRUCE.”
HMMM that’s probably all I have to say about that!
If you or anyone have questions about specific things feel free to hit me up, I’m on the desk for 2 more hours and there are like 4 people in the entire library.

Call My Own
Available on FF Here and AO3 Here
A/N: This chapter is a very old prompt I have had on my to-write list for over a year, brought to you by the many many Ed Sheeran fans we seem to have in the fandom. ‘Nancy Mulligan’ is not the first Ed Sheeran song in the mixtape series, and it will hardly be the last, but this fic also came with an added request. It wanted Emma as a princess and Killian as a pirate in an EF AU where the two of them have to run away to get married since her parents don’t approve. I have twisted that just a little bit, but what has resulted is just a ball of fluff that I think we could all use after saying our final farewell to the show yesterday. Hope you guys enjoy, hope that you are all doing well, and thanks so much for reading!
Captain Killian Jones of the Jolly Roger had never been one for patience. Since an early age he’d known it was a flaw in his personal design. His need to keep going, to keep moving, and to seek instant gratification was more often than not a burden. But never had his patience been tested like it was tonight as he waited with a lantern in the woods just beyond the castle walls.
Getting to this moment had been a long and winding road, one filled with hardship and loss that used to haunt Killian without reprieve. The deaths of his mother and of his elder brother Liam had prompted the worst kinds of pain, even worse than the enslavement he and Liam faced as children. But then a miracle stumbled along his path, a woman – nay, a princess – who with just a simple smile and a ‘how do you do’ turned his world completely upside down. Where once there had only been darkness now there was light again, and the heedless rebellion that had long stirred in Killian’s soul was quieted by the love of a remarkable woman who he was waiting for now.
Princess Emma of Misthaven was a rare gem, a beauty who was incomparable and who was beloved the realm over, but there was more to Emma than mere looks. The wit she had, the sense of self, the unshakeable sense of right in wrong, and the headstrong stubbornness when she felt herself justified all tied together made one perfectly imperfect person who he couldn’t help but adore. She was beyond comprehension and at their first meeting Killian had known just how ill suited they were for each other. He was bloody pirate for Gods’ sake, and she… well she was goodness personified.
It was that goodness that had brought them together so many months ago, but Killian remembered that first meeting like it had only just happened. He could see Emma in his mind’s eye, dressed down from the splendors of royal wear into something more modest and comfortable. She was out and about, having slipped away from the castle and her guards to help care for some children in this small town by the sea, and at first Killian had no idea who she was. To him she was simply the most gorgeous maiden he’d ever cast eyes on, and he’d felt compelled to seek her out even if he knew he shouldn’t.
“Excuse me, lass,” he’d begun, trying to catch up to his actions as he spoke aloud. Truth be told he had no plan, no words that he could say to her, and at first he thought to ask for directions or pretend to be lost, but he couldn’t bring himself to lie, even if it was of small consequence. Instead he lapsed into silence, prompting a smile from this strange, beautiful creature.
“I would excuse you,” she replied with a fair bit of sass, “but I don’t know what you’ve done that needs excusing.”
“Right – sorry.” Killian’s bumbling about was the most mortifying experience, but then it prompted a laugh from his new companion and he couldn’t seem to regret it.
“Did you need something?” she asked, the light of her laughter still twinkling in her eyes and Killian moved forward, wanting to bask in the aura around her. At his movements her gaze shifted from something that was merely friendly and curious to another expression entirely. In her eyes he finally saw an interest that mirrored his own, and that interest seemed to return his instincts to him once more.
“Just a name, love, so I might know what to call the most beautiful woman the realms over.”
The words hadn’t in any way been contrived, for he felt them most acutely, but Killian waited a beat, feeling her breath catch and watching a shiver go through her before she shook her head and smiled again, another giggle falling from her lips. She covered her mouth, and Killian wished to take her hand to keep her from shielding her smile, but she did so on her own soon enough.
“Do lines that usually work for you?” she queried, clearly believing him a flatterer instead of a man of any substance.
“That wasn’t a line,” Killian said somewhat defensively. “You are that beautiful.”
Now it was her turn to be a little off balance. “Oh, well, uh thank you.”
“So… your name?” he asked, stepping just a fraction of an inch closer but putting them in a distance to each other that was hardly proper.
“You really don’t know?” she asked and Killian shook his head.
“Should I, love?” Killian prompted and she looked torn about telling him, glancing back to the children who were still playing about. Then Killian acted on instinct, reaching out to her and turning her cheek back to him. He felt the rush of touching her the first time, the flare of heat as his skin met hers, and he watched as a blush kissed her cheeks, but he pressed on. “If you don’t give me a name, you know I’ll have to choose my own for you.”
“And what would you choose?” she asked, her voice a bit breathless as the wind picked up slightly and moved a bit of her golden hair around in the breeze.
“Swan,” he confessed, watching as her eyes grew wide with curiosity. “They are the most beautiful of birds, both fierce and brilliant. They’re also stubborn as I recall, and they’ve a will of their own that can’t be denied.”
“I’m not stubborn,” she protested and Killian grinned.
“Aren’t you? You won’t even give me your name.”
“It’s Emma,” she replied.
“Killian,” he’d offered in turn, taking her hand in his, and just as he was about to push for more the children had returned in full force, bringing with them more than exuberance but another revelation – for none of them referred to her as Emma, instead they all called her ‘Princess’ alerting Killian to the fact that he’d just begun to fall for not just any woman, but the most sought after one in the Enchanted Forest.
In the time since that meeting, however, Killian and Emma had found their way back to each other often. It started slowly and with set expectations. She was a princess, and he was a pirate. There was surely no way they could be together, but when Emma confessed that the feeling of love and that sensation that life could never be as sweet without them together was mutual, Killian began to hope for more. He was determined to be a better man that was more worthy of her, and the inspiration he held close in trying to pursue such a life came from Emma and her abundant love for all the people in the realm, good, bad, and in between.
A slow spike of remorse rose in Killian’s gut at the thought of that love and how their running away together now would jeopardize her future interactions with the kingdom. Emma deserved the life she’d been born to, a life where someday she would rule as Queen and protect the people she’d been safeguarding all her life, but the sad fact was he couldn’t give such a life to her. Her parents, kind and benevolent as stories and legend made them out to be, had been clear on this: their daughter was not to marry a pirate.
“I just can’t understand them,” Emma had said the night after he’d gone to seek their approval a few days ago, when she’d stolen away from the castle to meet him aboard his ship. There were tears in her eyes, and emotion holding like a vice to her voice that cut Killian down to his soul.
“Can’t you, love?” Killian asked, a bitter attempt at humor etched inside the words. “I’m a pirate, a rogue, hardly the kind of man suited for a princess, never mind a princess as wonderful as you.”
“Stop that,” Emma scolded as she looked into his eyes and her hands came to his chest. “You know that’s not true Killian. You’re so much more than the pirate you imagine. You’re the best man I’ve ever known. I wouldn’t love you as I do if you were any less.”
“And I will love you every day of my life, and every day there after, Emma. But sometimes, I suppose, love isn’t enough.”
The words had tasted like acid on his tongue and the reality that not receiving a blessing from her parents would put a stop to this nearly killed him, but it was Emma who rallied and who put his fears mostly to rest. She pulled him to her for a kiss, one that was forceful and full of feeling, daring him to doubt what existed between them. Then when they pulled away from each other, their foreheads rested together and she spoke a simple truth he would cling to all the rest of his life.
“Love will always be enough, and a true love like ours always finds a way.”
That was what they were doing tonight – finding a way, a way to be together and to tie two hearts who loved so fully together as one. They were going to elope, to marry in secret and then reveal to her parents the truth. From there the Queen and King could make the decision to either accept Killian and Emma or to turn them away. Killian prayed every night for the former, for disownment from her parents would bring Emma a pain he would wish on no one, certainly not the woman he loved.
A rustling of branches not so far off drew Killian’s mind from his wayward thoughts, and he awaited whatever approached, poised for the worst but hoping for the best. When he saw Emma standing there, he hardly knew what to say. She was so beautiful, so utterly breathtaking out here in the moonlight with just the glow of his lantern shining on her that he could barely speak. Underneath a cloak of blue he could see she was wearing white. It wasn’t the kind of gown a princess wore on her wedding day, but it was beautiful, pure, and gave his bride to be an almost fairy-like look he’d remember forever.
“Emma,” he said, her name a single utterance that brought her running forward. She threw herself into his arms, and he tossed the lantern with little care, knowing it was safe, but not truly having a care. All that mattered was holding her, and comforting whatever sadness she was feeling.
“Oh Killian… I thought I’d die from waiting. But we’re really doing this. We’re really going to be married,” she said and Killian swallowed harshly as he pulled back to look at her, letting her come back softly to her feet.
“That we are, love. As soon as you tell me that this is what you want we’ll go. I’ve everything ready, but I need you to tell me one last time.”
“The only thing I’ll ever truly need is you by my side,” Emma murmured as her hand grazed his cheek, her fingertips brushing at the spot where beard met flesh as she tried her hand at a bit of teasing to lighten the mood. “You still love me, don’t you, Captain?”
“More than anything the realms over. And you know I’d give you the whole world if I could, Emma, but in the life I can offer you, there are no palaces or castle. No crowns, and no kingdoms. There’s just my ship, the sea, and a heart so full of love for you I can promise it will never fade away.”
“It sounds perfect,” she assured him with a whisper. “As long as I’m your wife and you’re my husband, as long as we walk through life together, make a family together, and grow old together, as long as you keep your promise and love me every day, then that will be enough.”
“You have my word, Emma. If those are your dreams, I will see to it that every last one of them comes true.”
“And we’ll see to the rest,” a voice said from just beyond the tree line. Emma and Killian turned and discovered that despite their beliefs they were not alone, for there, standing before them were the King and Queen. “Won’t we Charming?”
The question from Queen Snow came charged with emotion, her wide eyes glistening with tears as she held her husband’s hand. Emma’s father, meanwhile, was not so stricken with emotion, but his focus lingered on his daughter before turning to Killian. This time the look Killian received was very different from the last. There was still the feeling that Killian would never be good enough for Emma (a fact to which Killian would readily agree), but the harshness and disdain was gone. Instead it was replaced with understanding and a new sort of respect. It was a look that gave Killian hope, as he stood there with Emma still in his arms.
“Mom? Dad?” Emma asked, pulling back as she kept Killian’s hand in hers. “If you came here to stop me -,”
“We didn’t,” her father promised. “We came to make things right.”
“We should never have stood in the way of true love, Emma,” her mother said thoughtfully, stepping forward to cross the space between them until her hand came to rest on Emma’s arm. “And it’s clear from your actions and your words that you two do love each other. You’re old enough to know your own heart, and if you want him so much that you would run away to be married, he must be truly worthy man.”
“He is,” Emma said with a smile before looking back at Killian and whispering, “You are.”
“Right then,” Emma’s father said briskly, stepping forward to shake Killian’s hand. “Please accept our apologies, Captain. But also remember that if you hurt her there’s not a place in any world you could go where I wouldn’t find you.”
“Dad!” Emma yelled at the same time that her mother scolded, “Charming!” but then Emma and Queen Snow laughed together.
“There’s nothing to forgive, Your Highnesses. And believe me, if I were ever to cause any harm to Emma, I would not run. I’d willingly surrender to whatever punishment you deemed fit. It could be no worse than the pain I’d feel at having inflicted any suffering on my swan.”
“Swan?” Queen Snow asked and Emma shook her head.
“A story for another time. Right now we have to go, we’re late.”
“Late?” the King asked. “But Emma, now that we’ve settled things surely you can come home. Killian will come too and we’ll plan a wedding befitting a princess. There’s no need to run anymore.”
“You two can still plan the party of your dreams. If you want we’ll even stand up in front of the whole kingdom and say our vows all over again,” Emma said looking to Killian for agreement as he gave a nod, perfectly happy to do anything she wanted. “But I’m not waking up another morning not married to the man I love. I can’t wait anymore. I won’t.”
“I see,” her father said with an even tone as her mother looked shocked. Then he surprised them all with a response no one saw coming. “Well I can’t say I’ve ever been on a pirate ship before, but there’s a first time for everything as they say.”
“You’re kidding,” Emma said with rush of air and then a giggle when she realized he wasn’t. “You’re serious?! You’ll both come?”
Her parents agreed that they would, and Killian could feel the happiness Emma carried in her heart because of it. They made their way to the ship, and despite the slight awkwardness of introducing the few crew members he’d kept for the night to not only his bride to be but her royal parents, things went smoothly from there. The chapel was found, the ceremony presided over, and the love that was bound together grew only stronger as they promised to have and to hold each other all the days of their lives. Killian knew the rush and the thrill that could only come from the woman he cherished taking his name as hers, and he felt his heart open all the more at promising Emma eternity. It would never be enough, but it was a start, a start he was more than excited to undertake.
As the early morning light began to rise above the world, Killian and Emma stood at the side of the Jolly Roger, watching the sun make it’s way through the heavens, bringing warmth and illumination as it did. Her parents had decided to retire to a cabin for this last short leg of the trip, but Killian suspected it was more to give them privacy than because of any real need for rest. He appreciated it too, for the only thing that could sate the need to claim his bride in this moment was holding her in his arms, watching the early morning sun cast golden hints through her hair and light up her jade colored eyes. In this moment Emma looked blissfully happy, and then she turned to him and smiled, taking his breath away.
“Promise me this really happened,” she said, her hand coming to rest above his chest, right where his heart lay beating. “Promise me it’s real, and that I won’t wake up from some perfect dream any minute now.”
Killian brought her hand to his lips and pressed a gentle kiss before returning her smile. Then he ran his fingertips against her cheek, gazing in her eyes and seeing the next sixty-odd years they’d spend together. There was a beautiful life to be led, a life filled with far more joy than sorrow, with hopes and dreams, with love and faith, and he found himself also grappling with the worry that somehow this was all a grand illusion. Then he grounded himself in Emma, the realest thing he’d ever known, and he took comfort in the fact that he couldn’t imagine such a treasure or such a blessing as her.
“This is real, my love. As real as real can be.”
“Good,” Emma replied before kissing him, teasing him with the taste of passion he knew lurked just beneath the surface. The kiss burned hotter, edging onto something that couldn’t be excused, especially when her parents were just below decks, but at the last minute Emma pulled back, grinning mirthfully at him before supplying one last thought. “And don’t worry – we can still run away together.”
“Come again?” the confusion that must have been etched on his face made her laugh, soothing his disorientation as he awaited her reply.
“Not forever,” Emma said with conviction. “Just for a little while. I think three weeks will be long enough for a decent honeymoon, don’t you?”
“Aye, my swan. As you wish.”
And with that agreement between them, Killian and Emma settled into the happily ever after they’d been fighting so hard for, finding it just as wonderful and magical as fairytales and happy stories made them out to be.

Post-Note: I always love a good EF AU, and writing this little oneshot was no different. It offered all the same chance for fluff and feel-good moments, and I hope that you guys all enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing. Thank you to my reader who suggested this song and this story idea, and to all of you who have shared other ideas with me. More to come in the weeks ahead, and until then I hope you all have a lovely rest of your weekend!

1. How many works in progress do you have?
dear lord i have so many...8 in the kirchnerverse folder, like 30+ in my asoiaf folder, a few coppelius fics, demonverse, biker au...Writing is hard for me
2. Do you/would you write fan fiction?
it’s virtually the only thing i write :/  which bums me out to no end, but there ya go
3. Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?
paper for sure.  they’re so satisfying to read and it’s good to give my eyes a small break from my phone.  also, they’re cozy to curl up with on the subway.  however, some of the books i read/want to read are only available as ebooks :(
4. When did you start writing?
i started writing nonfiction for school in 2nd grade and loved it, but discovered that i could write fiction in 3rd grade and then did it at free-writing time in school whenever i could.  as i recall, i didn’t actually get started writing at home for fun  until 5th grade, when i wrote a crackfic play called “A funny thing happened on the way to the Revue” (the originality slays) and that was it for me.  i spent the miserable years of 6th, 7th and the less-miserable year of 8th grade writing copious fiction at home for fun.
5. Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?
it depends on what the work is.  obviously i publish my fiction-works fanfic on AO3.  my rpf is a different situation.  there’s a lot of it i would like to share, but i’m afraid.  @cractasticdispatches has read some of my rpf ;)  i think i secretly am dying to share some of my kirchnerverse but with who?
6. Where is your favorite place to write?
anywhere i manage to actually write something is a miracle, i don’t care if it’s the NJ transit bathroom at penn station
7. Favorite book as a child?
all of them?  i had a bunch of favorite picture books, and also the babysitters club, the boxcar children, nancy drew (THE WHISPERING STATUE, ANYONE??) hardy boys, the westing game, secrets of the shopping mall, peppermints in the parlor (yo did ANYONE else read that last one?  it was incredible), harriet the fuckening spy, the little house series...i basically read 24/7 lmao
8. Writing for fun or publication?
i’d love to write for publication BUT
9. Have you taken any writing classes?
in college i took “intro to creative writing” and then “advanced creative writing” which y’all have heard me talk about.  for fun, in summer 2008 i took a poetry-writing class at brooklyn college with a fantastic professor.  after college i took a travel-writing course.  that was pretty phenomenal and the teacher actually told me i should look into getting my travel writing published somewhere.  of course, i never did it and now i think i lost that descriptive talent.
10. What inspired you to write?
my head is full of stories.  those stories kept me sane and focused when i was a kid younger than age 10 with ptsd-related panic attacks and dissociative episodes.  writing them down was one of the only times i felt empowered and in control.  i was a silent kid--because of all this going on in my head, i couldn’t navigate socially and was afraid to speak up ever.  when i wrote i had a voice.  and because i was a precocious writer, when i wrote my voice was validated by the adults whom i respected.
and of course, my head is full of stories.

writing tag game
finally getting around to this! thanks to @acenancy @thetaoofbetty @iconic-ponytail @imreallyloveleee and @satelliteinasupernova for the tags!
How many works do you have on AO3?
19! when did that happen?
What’s your total AO3 word count?
555,869 holy yep
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
on AO3, only 2–riverdale + my one nancy drew cw nace fic! however back in the ~day on FF.net I wrote for Harry Potter and I def wrote a Zoey 101 fic too L O L
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Exhale (stoner bughead college AU with demi jug)
if it feels like a home (canon divergent bughead getting back together fic with a SEVEN YEAR TIME JUMP I DID IT FIRST @ RVD WRITERS)
betty, it’s legitimately cold outside (snowed in bughead christmas oneshot. aww this was my first holiday bughead fic)
do you like or like like me? (my class of ‘12 high school bughead field hockey AU)
love in the time of coronavirus (the omg they were quarantined fic I wrote from march-june 2020)
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
yesss! comments make my heart soar, and i love to reply to them and especially to take the time to respond in depth to longer comments. also, as a comment-leaver i like seeing replies when people get around to it! which leads me to my next point...often it takes me forever to reply but i always get there eventually!
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
i don't do angsty endings bc i personally am writing fanfic for happy endings tbh but i WILL say the biggest angsty cliffhanger i've ever left my readers on was the end of ch 3 in do you like or like like me? i intended to go only a week between ch 3 and 4 but then didn't...so that's probably the angstiest i've ever left bughead if that makes sense lol
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
hmm, i feel like all my stories have happy endings! but maaaaaybe a merry little retail christmas, since they end up with their own bookstore and jughead proposing to a very surprised betty in said bookstore as he reveals they own it?
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
does my riverdale O.C. AU count as a crossover? bc if so then yes. also i really want to do a nace/bughead crossover at some point. @heartunsettledsoul and i have discussed this a tiiiiny bit but nothing specific.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
not hate exactly, but i have gotten people kind of bluntly asking me to include particular characters in a fic that are either a) already in the tags or b) not in the tags for a reason, and that's not...my favorite thing, ngl.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
yes, yes i do! i guess i'm usually solidly in the M side of things rather than the E side, and it's typically equal parts horny and fluffy since it's always between characters who are ~in loooove! i did write a kink week oneshot entirely as an ode to the Satisfyer, a sex toy i highly recommend to anyone who owns a clit.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of! so god i hope not!
Have you ever had a fic translated?
nah
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope
What’s your all time favorite ship?
bughead, for sure. see the 18 fics / thousands on thousands of words i've written about them. and the podcast (@bodysuitsforbughead) i put their name in the title of!
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
eek okay so it's ~possible~ i'll never finish love in the time of coronavirus bc idk if i want to/am capable of going back to that headspace of early pandemic but A L S O i maybe will? chapter 8, the only unfinished chapter, is supposed to be a time jump epilogue so you never know, an idea might inspire me to write it at some point in the future! maybe it's meant to be written at a point in the future that's ~actually post pandemic, you know? we shall see.
What’s your writing strengths?
oh god, this is a hard one. i feel like i'm good at dialogue? it's hard to self evaluate!
What’s your writing weaknesses?
describing people!!! why am i so bad at it? i'll never know. however i do think it's part of the appeal of fanfic for me, bc everyone kinda already knows what characters look like so you can get away with the least amount of physical character description more so than original fic.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I don't really know any other languages besides English besides some rudimentary/faded italian and the amount of spanish you get in middle school, but if the character calls for it, like a stray Lodge family "mija" and such, i do that? but i think it's super cool when others who are bilingual, multilingual, etc. incorporate other languages!
What’s the first fandom you wrote for?
WAIT lmao @iconic-ponytail my answer is identical to yours: Harry Potter on fanfiction.net. For me, which is apparently unpopular in our fandom, it was all about Romione.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
hands down, do you like or like like me? it just captured a lot of things i've always wanted for high school bughead in that fic AND the process allowed me to get out a lot of angst and nostalgia about my high school years, which was super cathartic. and the fact that i seem to have produced something that a lot of people could relate to as former nerdy teen girls makes me really happy. Exhale is a close second favorite, and probably mainly because i have a lot of anxiety attached to Exhale bc i never update it as fast as ppl want me to.
i'm late to the party so idk who has or hasn't done this yet, but i guess i'll tag some writer friends who *didn't* tag me? lmao @heartunsettledsoul @literatiruinedme @bugheadsextape @sullypants @fallout-mars @go-ldy

@sqvalors tagged me in this writing meme and as I have nothing better to do on this not-so-beautiful sunday, let’s have at it
1) How many works in progress do you have?
a LOT but currently I only have two active WIPs: my festivebastion fic and my H/D Big Bang fic for next year. (once festivebastion is done with I want to go back to the space AU, which I initially wanted to finish before the end of the year...)
2) Do you/would you write fanfiction?
I write a shitton of fanfiction. :’’’’D I don’t think I’ll ever stop tbh.
3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?
I prefer paper, but I read both kinds. I’m slightly pickier when it comes to physical books? I’m not a big fan of hardbacks because they’re so big and bulky and often really heavy...I’d like to be able to read a book without being in pain from holding it. and if the font is too tiny/too packed in a paperback it’s harder to read, where with ebooks I can just...CHANGE THE FONT SIZE. it’s like magic! I love it. I have a few books in paperback that I hunted down in ebook form because the thought of reading a book the size of a brick in tiny and tightly packed font is making me want to cry. some books (romance) are ebook only or digital first so those I’ll read digitally anyway.
4) When did you start writing?
when I learned how to write :’’’D I started Writing Seriously as a teenager, though, shitty poetry, short stories and novels, so I guess I’ve been Actively Writing for the past...17 years? give or take.
5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?
Yes! I have a small handful of betas. But also, if it’s fanfic, it goes online sooner or later? my original fic so far hasn’t seen any other eyes but mine but it’s not for lack of trust, it’s because none of it is at a stage where it’s ready to meet other eyes.
I don’t really suffer from the whole “but what will other people THINK” thing that I’m given to understand a lot of other writers do? The only exception to this is gift fics for fandom exchanges and the like, where I’m writing something specifically for a person. In those cases, like with any gift giving, I’ll worry about whether the recipient likes it. But in general, in the grand scheme of things? yeah, no. My betas will give me feedback on what’s working/not working, and once the fic is out in the world it’s out of my mind as well, so. if people like it, it’s great. If they don’t, well then I don’t care? *shrugs*
6) Where is your favorite place to write?
at home. these days I do most of my writing on my ipad (gdocs app or scrivener app) which means I’m on the sofa and very comfortably so. I also write on my desktop when I feel like it or if I feel like I need a more Serious Business Vibe. I have tried the whole going to coffeeshops to write thing and tbh...I don’t like it. It’s too noisy (and also just the kind of noise I can’t stand) so it’s more stressful than anything else. If I were to leave the house to write, I’d go to a library.
7) Favorite childhood book?
I read so many books as a kid, omfg, but enid blyton’s books definitely. Not all her books are translated to Icelandic, I don’t think, but I’m familiar with five different series (wiki tells me those are the riddle series, the secret seven, famous five, five find-outers, and the adventure series). my favourites were the adventure series, the riddle series and the famous five, and to nobody’s shock and surprise george of the famous five was my FAVOURITE EVER, because george was a girl who was a boy.
nancy drew and the hardy boys series!! I felt so betrayed when I found out that “””carolyn keene””” and “””franklin w. dixon””” were pseudonyms for a bunch of different writers, but at the same time I was like WELL THAT EXPLAINS A LOT. because much as I loved those books? ALL THE DAMN INCONSISTENCIES AND PLOTHOLES BUGGED THE HELL OUT OF ME. not all of them were translated to Icelandic, either, but I read as many as I could get my hands on (going to different libraries, I had only four nancy drew books myself and two hardy boys books). looking at wikipedia, the nancy drew books I had access to were all originally published in the thirties and early forties (there’s...so many books omfg I remember the series being like...15-18 books or so? I remember being told that at after a certain number the books were “written by her daughter” as an explanation for why they were so “different” aka why they were so terrible, wiki now tells me this is because the books were revised to change the character WOW) and the hardy boys books I had were from the 60s and 70s (also...so many books omfg there weren’t as many hardy boys books as there were nancy drew books in the libraries I frequented so I guess I always thought there just hadn’t been as many??? but there are. so many). ANYWAY. I am very pleased to find out that I (by accident?) managed to mostly avoid the shitty nancy drew books and mostly only read the ones where she’s a bamf. good good.
I also liked the little house on the prairie books. and a series about a emily who grew up to become a writer, which I later found out was written by the same author who wrote anne of green gables (I hated the anne of green gables books just fyi). and for some reason i was massively attached to the two books of zilpha keatley snyder I managed to get my hands on. they were kinda spooky books. the entire goosebumps series? i am still traumatised by some of those. oh and, there were a shitton of books by Icelandic writers I absolutely loved, but that none of you will have heard of...
8) Writing for fun or publication?
both? I wouldn’t write if it wasn’t fun, and I do write so other people can read it eventually. It goes for both fanfic and my original stuff. Only difference is really that with fanfic I have full control of the “publishing” process :pp
9) Pen and paper or computer?
both, but primarily computer. I haven’t written longhand since...I’d guess it’s been at least 5 years. I do some plotting and note-taking in hand though, and especially when it comes to plotting I like pen and paper because it’s more flexible. I keep thinking I should try to write longhand again but then I’d have to type it up and ugh :’’’D
10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?
nope. I like the idea of doing a 1 year MA in creative writing sometime, though. I think it could be a lot of fun.
11) What inspires you to write?
everything and nothing.
I’m tagging @ruffboijuliaburnsides, @actualkatebishop, @pipariperho, and anyone else who wants do to this. :)
