Steve and Eddie have different ideas of what ‘their’ song is. Steve insists it’s Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen because it was playing during their first date (they also don’t agree on what their first date was, but either way Eddie doesn’t want that song, even if he can admit it might be appropriate for them) but Eddie insists it’s The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden because it was playing when they first kissed. (Steve can admit the sentiment is sweet but “the lyrics aren’t romantic, Eddie!!” “It’s not about the lyrics! It’s about the memory!” “It’s about, like, Satan!” “So?”)

The way fans on the st sub are almost all in agreement Nancy ending up with neither Jon nor Steve wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, and how they can even come up with a sleuth of reasons as to why, honestly pretty valid and fair reasons, but then are absolutely gobsmacked when fans merely speculate something along those lines for El is, quite something.

He doesn’t know what hurts more, this or the memories of ‘our love is bullshit, you’re bullshit’ in his ears as he ignores the burn of his eyes. Ignores the stares and the silence.

He faintly wonders if maybe this is a curse, if he’s destined to be alone and that everyone he’ll ever love just can’t love him back.

Maybe it really is him?

Before anything else is said, he leaves. He doesn’t hear the shouts, doesn’t hear the apologies or the waits. Can’t handle being there anymore.

His eyes are burning, his heart is gone and he’s done.

Hawkins is a curse, all it holds for him is hurt and pain. He needs to leave, needs to be away. Wants to leave, wants to be away.

He feels the hand of someone on his arm and he doesn’t remember stopping, blinks hard to see past the tears. It takes only a few minutes to find Robin standing there, also with tears in her eyes. Her mouth is moving but his ears aren’t working, still buzzing with “I don’t like you like that” and a faint “you’re bullshit” ringing along side it.

Shaking his head, shutting his eyes tight. He leans his head against her shoulder and shakes, cries and feels her pull him close. Holds him tight and he curls his arms around her, trying to stop the tears and sobs.

“Oh, Stevie, I’m so fucking sorry. I’m here, I know it hurts.”

He clutches her tight and he sobs. This isn’t how this was supposed to go. He could’ve sworn- he really thought- really thought this was it. This was it, he thought he had a chance. Really.

This wasn’t supposed to happen.

“It’ll be okay, I swear. You’ll find someone, someone who loves you just as much as you love them. And I love you so much, Stevie. You are everything to me and you deserve it”

He shakes his head, it’s not true. He did find someone and they tore his heart out and called it bullshit and stomped all over it. He found another and they picked his broken heart up and decided to toy with it before ripping it to shreds with a simple “I don’t like you like that” and it’s so, it’s so juvenile.

“Yeah, yeah it is. And you know what? Fuck him, fuck him and everything about it. You can do so much better, I swear. Okay? Do you hear me, Steve? Do you?”

That’s when it slams into him, he was speaking out loud in between sobs and Robin was speaking to him. He nods and thinks hard at what she said, “I can’t Robs, I can’t do this anymore” he whispers and maybe even whimpers a bit, “I- It hurts so fucking much, I can’t be here anymore”

She pulls away and cups his face, his vision is still blurry but he can see that her face is red with tears too, “then we leave, we’ll leave. Okay? We can go anywhere. We can- we can just say fuck Hawkins and find something new- something bright and colorful. Find somewhere, where you can shine”

He can’t help but choke on a laugh and a sob, tries to shake his head. Stopped only because Robin holds him still, “We- I can’t do that to you-“

“You aren’t, Steve. I’m doing this for you.” She smiles and pulls his head closer to place a kiss to his forehead, “All this town has given you is pain and heartbreak, I’m calling it. We’re leaving”

“Isn’t that just- just running away?”

She shakes her head and pulls him close into a hug, “Even if it is, you deserve to run. We’ll pack up all of our things, either say goodbye or don’t, but we’re leaving. I can’t stand around and watch you break again. I can’t let you stick around longing and hoping that maybe fucking Eddie Munson decides to change his mind. I will not let him break you again”

There’s nothing he can say to that, he just hides his face in her shoulder. Holding onto her to keep himself from falling even more apart, listening to her hum and sway him to help him calm down. To stop from breaking even further, she whispers and promises him that she’s here. She’s not going anywhere.

And he believes her. She is his soulmate but he’s still hurting. He doesn’t know when it will stop, if they leave tomorrow it’ll still be broken. He’ll still faintly hear the “I don’t like you like that” mixed in with “you’re bullshit” in the back of his head. Doesn’t know if when he’ll not hear those phrases, doesn’t know if he’ll ever get their faces out of his head when they said it out either.

It hurts and his heart is in shreds. Being held together by his soulmate and maybe with her it’ll be protected.

„I love the way men love“ what if Gideon takes such care in his appearance because of his pa always at least brushing his beard and hair every morning (they would do it together in the mornings) and Kremy, his closest friend after getting free from the hobgoblins, also takes care in his appearance and knows that Kremy‘s fussing over his friends is his way of showing love (doesn’t everyone like to look nice?) and Gricko likes to teach Hootsie things by way of example so he and Hootsie get ready together in the mornings (like from his time in his tribe and the carnival where they first met) and Frost likes to stay clean because the robes he got are so valuable to him that if they get dirty he immediately feels like he got punched in the gut from disrespecting his old master (also having dirt and mud dry in his fur and joints makes for the worst feeling in the mornings) and Torbek after the horrible trauma of never being able to get clean and stay that way loves doing self care and taking showers and baths (cleanliness is a way to take back his own autonomy and show that he can do whatever he wants forever) and this all culminates in everyone when they wake up crowding together and helping each other get ready as a way to show that „I’m here you’re here I care for both yours and my own health and cleanliness, here let me help you with that“ and- I‘M NOT CYRING YOUR CRYING *distraught sobbing*

More genuine answer: I'm an aro-ace writer with a long long streak of gen-fic. Shipping doesn't interest me. I don't hate it; it just doesn't click for me at all. I joke that the only way romance ends up in the story is if it's a plot-necessity (Tetsuo and Jun are there because 'married man suspected of having an affair' is what pulls Reigen into the entire Mogami-possession plot. The Kageyama parents are married because they're, well, the parents. Teru and Mei's relationship is a joke until it's plot-relevant.)

So to me, I'm not writing Ritsu and Teru's relationship as a ship. But also? This is all pretend. It's all transformative. This is for fun. I absolutely know that if I were a ship-writer, Riteru would be the obvious choice. I know they're one angry-kiss away from being someone's enemies to lovers fic. Chuuya knows Dazai is special to him. Obviously, they've been through a lot together and trust each other more than anyone else, but theres also something else there. Some deeper feeling, some deeper connection he feels with him. however, any time he tries to explain this to someone to try and figure out wtf hes feeling, he keeps getting people telling him "youre in love with him"

except Chuuya knows he doesnt feel love like that. he doesnt feel romantic or sexual attraction like that, and it pisses him off that thats what people keep saying, so he shuts up about it and just lets it nip at him after every interaction with Dazai. He wants to know that the feeling- whatever it is- is mutual, wants to know that Dazai also sees him in at least a similar way as he sees Dazai. but hes so scared to say anything about it to Dazai, thinking Dazai will say the same thing everyone else says and ask if Chuuya is in love with him, when Chuuya knows that isnt what it is

so he lets this feeling pester him, knowing that him and Dazai have some sort of special bond, but feeling too scared to ask about it. To ask how deep Dazai's feelings go for him, not only cause Dazai is bad at being open and vulnerable, but also because hes scared of his feelings getting misinterpreted. He doesnt want a label, really, especially doesnt want to be considered his "boyfriend" or anything like that, he just wants to know that their bond is something special, that hes as important to Dazai as Dazai is to him.

(in a WILD turn of events, somehow the two do manage to have a conversation about it, and Dazai does, in fact, feel pretty similarly to Chuuya. Both agree that the term "boyfriends" is absolutely revolting, and they both much prefer the term "partners", as its a very broad term. they definitely dont have a stereotypical relationship or friendship, their bond falling outside of any and all binaries, but theyre both important to each other and can depend on each other and be clingy with one another, and thats all that matters to them. when people try to tease them for being in love, they both just let out a long sigh if its someone they respect, or beat the person's ass if its someone neither respect. they cannot be bothered with justifying their relationship with anyone else)
