once again, im here with set pictures, info from the set designer, Mark Hofeling, and my own commentary on it. this time, i wanna share stuff on Isle of the Lost from Descendants 2.

Ursula's Fish and Chips Shoppe:

About Ursula's place: "Like all the imprisoned villains on the Isle of the Lost, Ursula has had to find a way to make ends meet. Thus her Fish and Chips Shoppe is right at the tide line of the prison island. I wanted the feel of a faded old carnival attraction, still alluring despite its decay."

"Uma (China Anne McClain) and her pirate gang, including her trusted lieutenants Harry Hook (Thomas Doherty) and Gil (Dylan Playfair) rally to take back what is theirs in Uma's mother's dingy tidal pool of a Fish and Chips Shoppe."

i think this gives us info on the money on the Isle. there are two units, m and n, and there are a 100n in 1m. i think the prices are comprable to us dollars back like 30-40 years ago? which further supports my theory that the Isle is stuck in the past, in the time of their imprisonment. the menu itself has some genuine regular items, like fish cakes, dumplings, but most of them are isle specials, like pond scum, shell smell, and gulf goo. which i think is hilarious considering Ursula and Uma still just serve them whatever.

Isle of the Lost:

"A view of Low Tide Lane on the Isle of the Lost. Having been an isolated prison island for decades now, the idea was that every slat and board is on its 9th or 10th life, and every object not screwed down had changed grubby hands hundreds of times."

they kept the dirty candy colour palette! and i love how they truly kept to the 'everything is used and stolen 10 times over' philosophy.

this is the Bazaar, which is another market on the Isle. there is one in the main square and then this is the one closer to the docks, we can see Mal riding through it in D2. here, we once again see the money measurement. and i think it's intereting to see that crab and potatoes are priced higher than other things. i also like the 'satisfaction no guaranteed' sign.

Curl Up and Dye:

"Drizella's Curl Up and Dye on the Isle of the Lost is where Mal and Evie load up on chemicals for their showdown with Uma's pirate gang. So more than a hair salon as absurd as the rest of the Isle, it also had to be a repository for all kinds of chemistry and alchemy. The idea here was that out of every 100 of young Dizzy's experimental, chemical beauty concoctions, 99 blow up."

"The ever-unpredictable dye distillery."

i like that the base for this is a rough finish, like a construction before any renovation. and then its just neon splashes and broken mirrors from Dizzy's experiments. also i like the note that it's more chem lab than a salon.

Rotten four's hideout:

"The VK's hideout was always a place of respite from their raging and overbearing parents. It's where the VK's purloined all the best stuff on the Isle, and where Mal perfected her street art. "

this is Mal's room! which confirms for me that she doesn't live with her mother, at least not full time.

im kinda sad that we didn't get a view of the side with all those board games (kitchen, i think?) but even just these pictures are full of interesting details! as far as i saw only Mal's and Jay's 'Long Live Evil' tags are on the walls, i think it's because it was theirs first. i like the thorns that are circling the walls, like Maleficent's thorns around Sleeping Beauty's castle. they have some kind of an old school sound system, too! which i can i assume they use when throwing parties. and there are bikes, probably repaired 10 times over, but prised nonetheless. also, i thought that the green lamp in Mal's room is a hookah lol

Uma's ship:

"Uma and her pirate gang rule the rotting docks and rocky edge of the Isle of the Lost."

After all the Disney Villains were relocated to the Isle of the Lost, all the ships that brought them were scuttled and they were all locked behind an enchanted barrier. So this is one of many wrecks in these waters, including the sails of the ship, rammed into her side. We found real tall-ship riggers for this work, and they used 10,000 feet of rope in the process."

i love that they really rigged that ship! i think it's a detail that shows that Uma's pirates are real professionals.

"This photo shows the "rickety" and treacherous landscape of the rotten docksides. This became the setting of a 20 person melee to rescue King Ben and escape the Isle and Uma's vengeful clutches."

we can see Uma's 'We ride with the tide' tag in the bg, signifying that this is her territory.

there are a lot of cool details but what i'm focusing on here are the old school washing machines, again showing us how the Isle is frozen in time. im assuming theyre on the docks because this is where the water is.

i am looking to make another post with details from D3, here's hoping i'll get to it sooner than i did this follow up

I think it's really intereting how you use omegaverse for story building and smut isn't the main focus of your story. I see way too many stories only using a/b/o dynamics as another reason to write smut, that's why I really enjoy how you use the omegaverse to build the world around the characters! :) <3

I don't think I've answered this one? Idc I'm too lazy to check so I'll answer again lmaoo.

I don't really know what fandom/fic introduced me to omegaverse? I was part of the Marvel fandom for years and years, so I'm willing to bet it was the MCU. I was also briefly part of the Supernatural fandom so it could have been that one? As well as the Teen Wolf fandom and werewolves/omegaverse has a lot of crossover.

Needless to say, I fell in love immediately lol. My first omegaverse fic was for the MCU. I have a suspicious lack of omegaverse fics for someone who loves it so much lmaoo 😂 I've read probably hundreds in the past like decade-ish that I've known about it, and written a handful.

Thank you, though, I'm glad you're enjoying the fic. This was originally going to be a mostly smut fic, but then the slow burn and world building got away from me lol. It became a lot more than it was going to be, but honestly no one's complained yet so 🤷‍♀️ we are getting close to when the smut will be coming in, though. I will say that. 💚

godfrey + marika -> i said what i said. their relationship may be over but there’s a level of still being dedicated to each other. like idk ... the idea tht godfrey was privy to marika’s plans is so intereting to me, and i feel like even though there might be some level of like “i kind of still hate you for what you did, even if you had to do it,” there r still parts of them that are like THATS MY HUSBAND/THATS MY WIFE

radagon + marika -> no bc i have so many complicated weird thoughts abt these two. i operate largely under the assumption that radagon is like, another half or another part of marika, and i find it so VASTLY interesting tht at the point tht you fight radagon, it seems like he’s the one keeping marika in the erdtree. like ... they do not like each other !!! maybe at some point both of them, pieces of each other or not, trusted one another but clearly that’s no longer the case and i feel like if they were two separate bodies still, theyd be so suffocating to each other.

rennala + radagon -> i like .... so badly want to imagine that the love and adoration from rennala was reciprocated, and i think they were to an extent, but w radagon there was always that reminder of like I Am A Piece Of Marika / I Am Marika, so he couldn’t fully return those feelings. but like i said above, whatever manner their relationship was, them breaking everything off was bad enough for rennala to be sent into such despair and anguish, and fucking radagon left their family behind as far as we know, and he also just left her with an egg? and ive seen ppl theorize (unless its like, confirmed) that the egg has their unborn child in it and its so like ...... RADAGON.......

rennala + godfrey -> a while ago i drew some weird parallels between rennala and godfrey, esp within their roles as the spouses to the marika/radagon mess, and these two kindaaaa made me lose it thinking abt them. theres this thing i noticed where like, they were both spurned and turned away by their spouses, but where godfrey was exiled and seemingly willingly left the lands between, rennala was just STUCK THERE. and there’s truly something abt the dichotomy of rennala’s grief and despair being like ... pacified(?) by the egg as she clings to it, and then godfrey’s bloodlust and rage being pacified by serosh. also how godfrey (from cut dialogue) seemed to know what marika was up to but rennala is kept in the dark and is left to succumb to her anguish. there r also dog/cat motifs (red wolf of radagon in raya lucaria vs serosh), jock/nerd dynamic, tank/mage dynamic .... the way that godfrey and rennala are both blasting Fairytale by Alexander Rybak as they think abt their respective spouses. I JUST THINK THEYD GET ALONG LOL.

rennala + marika -> jennifer’s body-ass relationship. toxic wlw homoeroticism. its the like “ur not my husband but u are him but u’d be better than him” like .... theres a level of attraction going on tht at least rennala wouldnt fully understand until she learned abt the marika/radagon situation, i think?

godfrey + radagon -> i said what i said!!!!! theyd have weird tension and godfrey wouldnt give a shit abt the radagon/marika thing on the surface but i think if he knew what was fully going on (ie the radagon keeping marika in the erdtree thing w the elden beast as punishment) he’d be pissed.

i’m eating fishball snack and thinking about yudan (zhang luyi, click here if you don’t know why his nickname is yudan/fishball). this is me attempting to summon yudan in yin zheng style lol. i mean it. once i saw a post on weibo filled with screencaps of yin zheng’s 2016 weibo posts on zhang luyi, and i swear there was a post of yin zheng holding a bag of fishball snack and refering to zhang luyi. BUT i’m sad that i didn’t save the post or the screencap, and i couldn’t find it anymore...

anyways, these two are my faves, and i’m super glad that they seemed to get along really well (they made that famous funny “狗带/goudai news” video together). i don’t know how much zhang luyi posted on weibo back then, but yin zheng interacted with him and posted bts photos a lot. i’m sad that even yin zheng’s weibo is changed to showing posts in the past 6 months only, and i can’t search for those posts anymore...

here’s a photo of them from years ago, and see the characters on the board behind them? the first row says “...eat fishball?” lol...so my fishball connection is really not that far off.

even after three-body, people including myself are making a connection because they both speak english with an english accent. i’m like i want them to be on a travel variety show so badly (like the one yin zheng used to be on, but this time he’ll be with someone who can understand and appreciate his english accent)...but considering how cryptic zhang luyi is lol, i think i probably have a better chance hoping for them to lead in a movie or tv show at some point in the future.

also it’d be so intereting if yin zheng actually gets to play luo ji in season 2 of three-body. i’d be like damn dashi, do you know that luo ji and wang miao used to be a thing lol?

I need to talk about Cross Game - Part 1

Lately I've been feeling a bit nostalgic of the old anime/mangas I used to read, so I decided to re-read Touch by Adachi Mitsuru and that not being enough i needed to re-read Rough by the same author. And just like that I was like fuck it I just can't get enough of this author so I decided to give another one of his mangas a try and OMG I am floored. Btw I have some issued with the tropes Adachi overuses in his storytelling and his artstyle but that's for another post. Anyway, Cross Game is absolutely brilliant, this is Adachi at his best dealing with emotions, grief just like he knows. I actually haven't watched the anime adaptation so I'm just going to focus on the manga for now. I'll try to keep it short but I don't think that's even possible cause I have a LOT to say...

While looking for opinions on the series, I came across lots of reviews but mostly from anime watchers and I was often confused because a lot referred to Wakabe as Kou's girlfriend and I was just sat there like huh ??? Did i missread something in the manga that the anime captured lol ? I mean Kou did love Wakabe but the author from the very beginning of the manga went out of his way to show us their relationship was a bit one-sided. Wakabe loved Kou (mind you they were just like 10 year olds at this point in the story so i feel a bit weird calling it "love" lol) but Kou on the other hand was always more interested in her sister Aoba.

The instances are subtle a la Adachi but there are almost in every chapter. It's the way he sets up his panels, the dialogue or silences that sometimes can be so mundane but highlight obvious human emotions, like longing.

Starting from Chapter 1, Kou and Aoba are the first two characters we are introduced to and already in that introduction we have Kou staring at /taking interest in whatever it is Aoba is doing.

And mind you right before this, is a page of Kou staring at bathing suits, and when his father scolds him he basically replies he is a maturing boy so staring at things regarding the opposite sex is normal...almost like the author is outright showing us the what interests this hormonal pre-teen...

The first part of the story being focused on Wakabe and Kou's relationship actually highlights and cements the fact that Kou always liked Aoba differently. It's in the way he wasn't really intereted in keeping that tradition Wakabe wanted of them buying each other gifts every year.

It's the way he would almost always mention Aoba while with Wakabe (I started taking screenshots of the different instances but there were actually like so many I gave up lol I can't post all of them). I will however just touch upon imo the biggest giveaway depicted. It is when they are exchanging birthday gifts and Wakabe spots a newlywed couple. She's obviously emotional and she mentions how the couple will definetely be happy since they got married on a special day (her and Kou's birthday). When I tell you Adachi has a way of setting up his panels...because what comes next is kind of a brutal hint that only Wakabe was in "love". As she is mesmerised by the bride and imagines herself in that position...one day most likely with him... Kou is not listening and is basically thinking about Aoba and trying to emulate her pitching. You can't make this up...

Now this could absolutely be my head canon, but Wakabe being the very perceptive young girl she was, imo figured out Kou liked Aoba that's why she tells Aoba not to take him away from her when he grows up to be the kind of man she knows Aoba will like (aka a pretty damn good baseball player).

When Wakabe tragically dies at that young age, Aoba could never forget that request from her late sister. That's what makes Aoba's struggling to come to terms with her feelings for Kou as they grow up so poignant. Not only does she have to come deal with the grief of losing the sister she was closest to, she also has to fight her growing attraction for Kou so she literally forces herself to exgerrate feelings of hatred him because falling for him meant betraying the late sister she loved so much.

Kou too has some internal conflicts he has to deal with before accepting that he loves Aoba. While he was not romantically interested in Wakabe, he still loved her very much. She was the only constant in his life, always pushing him to become a better person. It's a love that's in a way so much deeper than romantic love. It's the kind of love you feel for a twin (and knowing Adachi this is exactly what he was going with, by setting their birthday the same day and place). Plus like I said because their relationship was bit one side he felt that much more guilt, that she was the one always loving him, always doting on him during their time together. On top of that his feelings for sisters just kept growing...

This is what makes Cross Game so damn heartfelt. The emotions the characters go through are so complex, so human it tugs at your heart. Seeing these two heartbroken people try to cope with the death of loved one while coming into adulthood and dealing with their survivor's guilt, growing emotions... Damn.

I titled this part 1 because I still have so much more to say lmao. I'll stop here for now. Well done to anyone who manages to read all this and if you did I hope this makes you want to watch/read Cross Game.

22. what inspires you?

THIS QUESTION IS FUN!!!!!! the main thing is really "my own life", which sounds kind of vain, but its a whole thing. Like a year and a half or 2 years ago or so i had this whole epiphany about the fact that i was trying to filter myself out of my art, or limit my own influence on my art, because i hated myself and my life, and it resulted in this feeling that i was just creating 1000 lifeless dead things for no reason; i was only able to get back a sense of joy and fulfillment by drawing by removing that filter and recognizing that my experiences + whatever thing im trying to portray = Art That Only I Can Make, which has been my ultimate goal since the beginning. so i try to unabashedly include as much of myself, my experiences and feelings, the things ive done, and the way i see the world into every drawing as possible. usualyl pretty much everything i make comes from a place like i see some sort of subject matter that interets me + i relate it back to my life = the thing through the filter of 'coda' becomes 'art.' so my main inspirations i guess are just, my life. subsections of that though are like..

the religion i was raised with inspires me a lot as like, a platonic ideal; the shallow, child's perception of catholicism, i spend a lot of time regurgitating the ideas i saw in catholic art as a kid ; i have always been deeply involved with computers and the internet, so deeply Online things really inspire me ; i am very inspired by artists who give "digital subjects" the amount of reverence commanded by artists who draw "real subjects", like, when people do classical oil paintings of computer desktops, take time to beautifully render drawings of heisei moe type anime characters, etc. Giving things that usually arent treated as Worthy of Being Made Into Art a lot of effort to make them into art inspires me a lot. i love working with the idiosyncracies of digital art, making drawings that were like OBVIOUSLY made in mspaint or obviously mangled by a computer, etc. i am really inspired by my own medium. other things i dont want to talkabout .as well.

beyond that watching my friends draw and learnign about what makes their artwork tick has been very inspiring for me and i love learning from the people around me.

i don't want to name specific names but lots of particular artists online inspire me. i spend a lot of time looking at other peoples art and trying to figure out what makes it feel special to me. The stories i watch read listen to and play are also probably the other biggest source of inspiration.

A lot of words to just say, "the normal things." but really the biggest inspiration i have is using art as a tool to exorcise parts of me and give them their own space to exist outside of my body, in the real world, and also just regular old classic synthesis of the things i look at and care about : )

Isayama is kinda in dangerous territory with implying that only a certain race with certain blood can do X, Y, Z (because blood and race don’t work like that bruh the eldians are straight up a different species if that’s all true). Even if he does something like...idk...having some non-eldians turn into titans and some eldians being unable to turn into titans..... that’ll be good. I know The curse of Ymir is supposed to be a supernatural phenomena or whatever and so perhaps the curse overrides our understanding of genetics and blood....but....idk....it’s such a dangerous subject to play with and while I think he’s handled himself so far....I’d just be so much more comfortable if turns out the blood thing was a myth made up by Marley or something lmao. loving your energy with the peacemaker series, so happy you're enjoying it! your posts are honestly top tier, you're so funny and so correct. idk if you'll ever check out any other dc shows, but if you were ever intereted the harley quinn animated series & doom patrol would absoluetly be the top one's i'd recommend. dc shows are all absolutely batshit insane but they've also got range & none are really that similar to each other so i can't say for certain if you'd like them just based off of peacemaker, but they are (in my humble opinion) the best in terms of strong writing & incredible characters (and canon lgbt rep that doesn't get brushed aside). i love them both so much, they go so far off the rails (especially doom patrol. for better or for worse...). i don't know if you're at all interested in other dc projects, but thought i'd just put this out there in case you were lol

These questions are so hard to answer lol because I really love chapter 698 and Hashirama/Madara flashback is good but the war arc is such a mess for the most part. I'd remove the Kaguya aliens stuff because it really wasn't needed and is probably something Kishi had to create so the last movie could somehow tie in with the manga.

First of all the Uchiha massacre is revealed, including Itachi's part. Neji doesn't die and him and Hinata actually start fixing the Hyuuga clan. Hinata realizes Naruto just isn't into her but they stay as friends. Neji, Hinata, Naruto start to think about the future of the village since Naruto promised to help Neji change the Hyuuga. Meanwhile Sasuke travels around to different countries to see how they are doing. I think it would be good if Sasuke had a more realistic view on Itachi, instead of the child-like adoration. I'm not sure though, I know how strong trauma is. Also someone invents therapy and Kakashi goes there, same with Naruto and Sasuke and a bunch of other characters. Kakashi does not become a Hokage.

I think I agree with Naruto's seiyuu who said she imagined Naruto becoming a wanderer rather than a Hokage. I also agree with Naruto's english VA who said Naruto and Sasuke should ran away together and start a family. :3 (their family is them and cats, I'm not that intereted in them having kids). This is obviously after they have put important things into action. I think it's also important they have a house together outside of Konoha yet Naruto sometimes lives in Konoha while Sasuke is traveling. This part is my self-indulgence in case I wouldn't have to worry about homophobes and that it's a shonen manga.

hello friend! ah, that scene! lol, i've always wondered what that scene is about...local twink hitting on miaomiao in a creepy way xD...yang lei, i want to pick your brain lol!!!

i actually almost giffed that scene at some point, but when i went to crop out the the actual scene, i realized that they wouldn't look good in gifs by tumblr standard (eg. you know on tumblr the popular style is those huge gifs that's with a bigger height to width ratio, but that scene is just too wide and not tall enough), and the hard subs would make it even less aesthetically pleasing because you'd have 1/4 of miaomiao being cut off in the handshaking shot. plus it's very dark, so i don't know if it will turn out ok. i'm sorry i'm just a mediocre gifmaker, and there were scenes i just ended up deleting instead of posting because the gifs looked so grainy...

but you know what, i'll go back to it and reevaluate it. BUT i can't make any promises. if it turns out to be not aesthetically pleasing enough, i'll likely not gif it unfortunately. also i have to say i'm a bit discouraged when there's a lack of interets in my last gif request :(...so i'm a bit hesitant to take on requests...
