The events of dreamtale were Always meant to happen, no matter what, one twin was going to end up corrupted, and in This version of the multiverse, it was Always going to be nightmare.

Ever wonder why no one ever intervened? Why, despite being such a powerful source of- everything, despite being a beacon in the multiverse, no one ever entered in from outside? Error, for example, never noticed it? Ink?

The universe was locked from the inside out from the very beginning. No one gets in, no one gets out, that's what the code dictates.

Until "the event" happens, no one is allowed to interrupt, no one is allowed to intervene, and No One is allowed to change the script.

Reapertale, _____tale, dreamtale, why is no one going in? Why is no one going out? Why do, none of them, even Suspect the existence of other universes?

The more important a universe is to the multiverse, the tighter the lock around it is, why did none stumble upon ink?

This way, its events are transpired safely, events that Need to happen, things that Cannot to be allowed to happen, events that affect the Entire Multiverse and its balance, are safely carried through.

Why does reaper only reap in his universe?

Dreamtale stays locked, safe, hidden in some corner of the multiverse until it is safe to be let out. The code tucked neat and tidy where it sits, waiting to be followed, used, the goals laid within its conscious achieved.

It goes as follows:

Nim guards the tree.

Nim dies.

Nim makes the decision to make the twins.

The twins are born.

The village moves in.

The villagers make the active decision to hurt nightmare.

The parasite calls to him.

Nightmare listens.

The apples are never purple.

Nightmare corrupts.

Nim dies again.

Dream gets trapped in stone.

Nightmare leaves.

His apples are never purple.

And then, after the script has been followed and the scene ended, the theater is open to all who wish to visit.

.... Almost.

Error is not allowed in, as he poses a threat to what parts of the script have yet to be followed (Dream waking up from the stone)

And Ink is not allowed in, as he poses a threat to the script as a Whole.

Didn't you ever wonder why everything happened as it did? Why in every multiverse, only One twin gets corrupted? Why the world shifts its balance when need be, putting the responsibility of negative emotion on Dream when Nightmare dies, and the responsibility of positive emotion on Nightmare when Dream dies?

Why dream's eyes and apples are golden and Nightmare's eyes are purple but apples black?

Dream's shirt is blue, that is alright, it is not the colour of his apples.

Dream's apples hold no hue, only colour.

Why did the parasite do what it did? Why to nightmare? Why not dream? Why now? Why does it take his name? His identity? Why does it pretend it's always been him? Has it no name of its own? Why? Why doesn't it?

Yet nightmare's apples hold Two hues, the colour black, iridescent purple and, iridescent Green.

How come nightmare has all that time to eat those apples uninterrupted? How? It makes no sense now does it? How something so easily stopped was allowed to happen?

It was always Meant to happen, it was always Meant to happen here, on this day, in this time, these events, in this order.

Nightmare eats the apple.

Nightmare corrupts.

Nim dies again.

Dream gets trapped in stone.

Nightmare leaves.

The scene ends.

Why?

Nightmare was always meant to die. His body was always meant to corrupt. Dream was always meant to be trapped in stone.

Why is his soul purple but his apples black? When dream's soul is golden and his apples gold?

Why is he bullied in every universe? Swapped fate? Dreamswap? Switched destinies? Nightswap? Reset dreamtale? Swapdream?

Why is dream always So beloved?

Why does only one of them get to make it out Alive?

Maybe this was always meant to happen.

Maybe this was Always meant to happen this way.

Why are the apples black? Why is a tiny bit, a small, easily missed hue in them purple?

Why has he been reduced to a hue in a sea of black, instead of a colour?

Why isn't he the apple?

Why is he the thing trapped inside it?

Maybe he was always meant to end this way.

Why is it that, when dream corrupts and becomes shattered, nightmare suddenly uncorrupts for no apparent reason?

Can the universe not hold both of them together? Can only one of them be corrupted at a time? Can only one of them be sane and whole and Living?

Why does nightmare's name stay the same, but dream's changes? Still nightmare, so why Shattered?

Is he a foreign entity? Can It not recognise him as he is now? Is he not supposed to be this way? Is dream supposed to stay dream and nightmare supposed to be nightmare? Did it rename him? Was he supposed to stay dream? Was nightmare supposed to stay nightmare?

Was he always supposed to be corrupted? What came first, the apple or the baby? The baby or his fate? Why were his apples always black? Has he been made to be corrupted? Has this always been his fate?

Has one, then, if they are born to die, ever have been alive at all?

Why is it that they are never allowed to be the same? Why are they opposites in every way? Why can only one of them Yearn and only one of them Hate?

Why can't it hold them both Together?

The balance interrupts, the script gets confused, this was never supposed to happen, dream shouldn't corrupt, he shouldn't have an apple to eat To corrupt.

Dream's skull shatters.

It goes through its code.

This isn't supposed to happen.

Only One twin should be corrupted.

The tentacles sprout from dream's back.

It goes again.

This isn't supposed to happen.

Only One twin should be sane.

His screaming turns to garbled laughter.

It goes again.

This isn't supposed to happen.

He is corrupted. He's not supposed to be. Nightmare is corrupted. He's Supposed to be. Why can't it reverse this? This apple isn't from here, the code is foreign, it doesn't know how to reverse this.

This is not good.

This is not good at all.

The script isn't being followed. It needs to be followed. Only One Twin Should Be Corrupted.

.. So then It looks to nightmare.

The multiverse, the beautiful multiverse, in all of its Sentient, Living glory, turns to look at nightmare, and rewrites the code to fix it.

He uncorrupts suddenly, with no explanation as to why, and shattered's bones break to shards and rearrange themselves inside his corruption.

It changes his name, as the "Dream" supposed to follow the script no longer exists, and in his place this foreign entity lays, it renames him "shattered" in its code, and they are no longer the same person.

Are they?

Nightmare gets an eye back, shattered loses his.

Nightmare's tendrils disappear, shattered gains his.

Nightmare Uncorrupts... And Shattered becomes corrupted.

And all balance, again, for that single, glorious moment,

Is restored.

Accidental kiss pedro/fermin for @ellearts

The club is so stuffy it's almost unbearable. Jorge dragged them all out after race end, not even having a coherent excuse this time. Since aleix retired jorge took role of keeping strangely formed friend group of spanriads together, arranging semi regular going out sessions.

But something started feeling a little strange ago. Fermin suspects that it's all because jorge is Pedro's designated person to go and rant and on track scrap they had few races ago probably gave him enough emotions that they needed a way out.

Or maybe jorge talked to aleix for too long and they thought that they could play matchmakers and repair old friendship or some shit.

Who knows.

No matter the reason Jorge started inviting him and pedro at the same time to the clubs and restaurants way too often. They had somewhat established unspoken agreement about how they didn't go to group hangouts at the same time. Usually it was just how it happened naturally but Fermin knows for a fact that pedro sometimes intentionally made himself unavailable at times.

And Fermin can get a hint even if it stings a big so he doesn't try to do anything himself. At some point you stop reaching out when the answer becomes too clear.

But nowadays jorge is way too persistent and it feels suspicious. Way too suspicious. So instead of incredulously drinking his sweet cocktail fermin decides to go and dance, it won't be less stuffy but maybe at least being surrounded by people will help him loose all of his thoughts. (And just maybe it'll help him escape awkwardness of being close to pedro)

And it does, everything gets lost in the background while his body is vibrating with music. Fermin closes his eyes just to watch colours dance under his eyelids in tact with him.

People move around, someone even deciding to dance with him their back so close Fermin can feel it's shape without even having a point of touch. His hands find their way to other person hips, by the feeling of it it's probably a guy, not that it really matters for him. At this point they don't dance as much as just sway around.

When he decides that he got enough of just starring at colours under his own eyelids fermin opens his eyes, giving himself a second to adjust back by looking at the ceiling.

He still doesn't know who is it next to him and now that he actually can look it feels a bit like a game, wanting to see how they look, if he matches broad outlines his mind painted.

So without any worning fermin spins that mysterious person in front of him, focusing his look on him too.

All loosnes that got into his muscles is suddenly gone, each part of him rigid in shock. Why the fuck is Pedro is standing in front of him. And why the fuck is he smiling.

He feels lost, pedro is clearly drunk enough to forget all of his dumb mind games but it's very likely that if he continues dancing with him, morning Pedro will not appreciate that. Probably even try to kill him or something.

It takes effort to relax his body enough to bend down wanting to tell pedro that he's probably too drunk and he can help him get out of here.

But none of this happens, instead someone from behind pushes him and suddenly Fermin is kissing Pedro.

It's flat press of lips at first but before he can react and pull away there is a hand on his neck bringing him closer, fingers curling at his nape. It's intoxicating and Fermin starts answering the kiss without even processing what is going on. Everything feels very strange and familiar at the same time, way too confusing.

He realises where they are only when cramp in his neck gets too bad from the uncomfortable position they are in making him pull away.

And suddenly the weight of situation settles onto him, not even on personal level with all their bullshit but tge fact that they are two motogp riders making out in the middle of some random club. This couldn't end good.

Without even thinking Fermin starts leading pedro out of mass of people on the dancefloor by his shoulders.

Huh. He didn't even notice when his hands got there.

When they get out of there Fermin doesn't stop, making them go outside. It's very fortunate that there is private corner behind the building letting them have at least some privacy.

It's quieter here and cold help sober up, even tho there wasn't that much alcohol inside his blood to begin with. But same can't be said about pedro, who looks proper drunk while grinning like cat who got his cream.

Just as he opens his mouth to ask about what the fuck just happened, pedro manages to get on his tiptoes and kiss him again before any sound escapes him.

And Fermin is a simple man, it's not like he can push away someone who he fantasized of kissing a million times, especially when it's very likely the only chance he will get. Pedro's solid body under his fingers feels too heavenly for that.

Instead he lets his hands to roam free anywhere they can reach, from small of Pedro's back to short shaved parts of his hair. Trying to carve each little detail and sound he can, fermin finds Pedro's lips with his teeth wanting to know what sound that could get him. Low whine be gets in return feels incredibly rewarding. Their kiss escalates without end, Fermin suddenly feels a tongue in his own mouth, exploring around.

It feels like they will devour eachother at this rate but he will never know because out of nowhere his phone starts loudly ringing, making him jump away of reflex. It's clearly jorge calling because of his distinctive ringtone and fermin can't let himself ignore it.

When he pics up it's all frantic Spanish ask if he saw pedro because everyone is concerned about him and they also wanted to go back to the hotel already. It takes a lot of work for fermin to put any words into answer but in the end he manages to say something about how pedro wasn't well and he took him outside and how they will meet whole group near entrance in few minutes.

Honestly he's not sure if truthfully that's what he said but at least he hope for it.

He gets two of them back to the club in haze, not thinking about what just happened or what it may mean, instead picking his own and Pedro's stuff on autopilot.

Whole ride to the hotel Fermin lips burn

When he became successful, what do we think happened to their relationship?

Did they love him and treat him like they did his brothers, or even better? Did they still not see him as good enough? Did they continue to belittle him despite his success and heroics? Or did Ace grow to have enough respect for himself to cut them out of his life?

Cabby and Bot in Spring on the Breakfast!

I've been thinking about Spring on the Breakfast and the clumsy way it handles Cabby's memory disorder and how that handling makes it a little harder to deal with what is going on between Cabby and Bot. And I kind of want to share my interpretation of some of what was going on:

By the beginning of Spring on the Breakfast, Cabby has been back in the game for 3 challenges, her return coming 2 episodes after Bot discovers the circumstances surrounding their creation. At this point, most of the remaining contestants, Bot included, do not see Cabby in a positive light. In particular, Bot's opinions about Cabby are heavily informed by what Test Tube has told them about her, and the general attitude of the other contestants towards her. Cabby, on her part, only figures out the circumstances of Bot's creation somewhere during episodes 11 and 13, and the two spend little time together before Spring on the Breakfast. Though not for lack of trying, Bot continues to be the contestant Cabby knows the least about by far, and that's what they are both working with when they are paired up for the Springtastic challenge. Let’s skip ahead a bit:

And Cabby obliges. Now, on one hand, there is an attitude towards Cabby and the files in the show that goes almost completely unchallenged up to this point that initially makes this scene feel like it's just piling onto that. Bot has already shared false information with Cabby under the impression that she doesn't care about them as a person, so this scene feels like a continuation of that thought process; an insinuation that Cabby immediately moving to write down Bot's words is an uncaring, or at least misguided gesture.

On the other hand, we can consider why Bot responds the way they do to Cabby's question. Firstly, the fact that they are willing to answer this question at all is notable and indicative of their changing opinions about Cabby. Bot quickly becomes defensive when Cabby questions the dissonance between Test Tube's presence upsetting them enough to hide from her, and the positive relationship she thought they had. This moment makes it clearer how reluctant Bot is to confront how they feel about Test Tube. (Small note but I think that even though Cabby wasn't there for The Confrontation in episode 8 and never worked with "Bot" before episode 14, one could argue that Cabby of all people having zero clue about Bot's complicated feelings towards Test Tube is also testament to their aversion to admitting it). So of course in the moment they don't want Cabby to write it down because it's intensely personal for them and they are ashamed for even feeling that way about the people who created them in the first place. Additionally, Cabby has said multiple times in previous episodes that she will share any information she has if asked; In this instance it's not unreasonable that Bot ends up requesting this.

Cabby, when asked, then shares some intensely personal information of her own, that she, too, has never shared with anyone else. This sort of exchange is common when forming an emotional bond with someone and I think it's the point where Bot goes from just doubting the negative things Test Tube and others have said about Cabby to fully deciding those things weren't true, While also starting to feel a lot safer around her. And at this point they share more about themselves, without Cabby writing any of it down. Afterwards:

This. It's very reasonable to be put off by the way this scene is framed, knowing that Cabby needs the files to remember things. It gives the impression that Cabby no longer using the files since the people around her can just remind her of things would be a positive thing. Which is an unpleasant message that encourages her to give up her independent nature and leave a lot of her perception of events up to the whims of the people around her. In fact, Cabby's takeaway from her interactions with Bot leads to her deciding not to rely on her files in the subsequent episode, in service of not making others uncomfortable, and even with encouragement she seeks permission from Bot to use her files.

However, one can also view this scene as Bot trying to convey they feel safe and comfortable enough around Cabby to want her to write about them. Not as them saying, "I'll tell you again so you don't need to write it down", but as them saying, "I'll tell you again so you can write it down". It is frustratingly indirect, as Bot tends to be at times, so it isn't a very obvious way to take it, but Bot seemingly having prepared a new folder for Cabby to write about them in between their elimination and Blue Buried supports this idea. Further, in preparing that folder, Bot tries to engage with Cabby on her level and show that they want to understand her, instead of further convincing Cabby that she can only make friends if she stops relying on her files that she needs, that she enjoys writing, and that are an important part of her identity. Bot choosing to get closer to Cabby is also a symbol of them breaking away from the expectations Test Tube places on them in that doing so directly contradicts Test Tube's sentiment towards Cabby and desire to keep Bot away from her. Test Tube keeping Bot away from Cabby in previous episodes is meant to be seen as part of Test Tube trying to hide the truth from Bot, and Bot deciding to form a bond with Cabby irrespective of what Test Tube thinks about her can be seen as them accepting and welcoming the truth. All of these things are important for Bot to do as a character whose development is centered around them finding and being proud of their own identity.

And in a way, if you interpret this scene as Bot wanting Cabby to write about them, it is also representative of Bot becoming more secure in their identity. Cabby's goal is to keep accurate data, and though she can and does change that data when new information becomes available to her, the act itself of writing things down can make things feel more concrete. So Bot inviting Cabby to write about them next time almost becomes an invitation to have that information be "official" because they feel surer about who they are,

okay so I’ve played through a good chunk of Tekken 6’s campaign mode, and I think I have a better idea as to how Ridley Amora participates in the narrative + general character stuff about her. It’s a long post so buckle up!

The game has a world map with unique areas with their own bosses, each one being a respective tekken character on the roster. Sometimes it’s just a 2 v 1 boss fight but sometimes it can be a 2 v 2 boss fight.

Ridley Amora would be one of the early bosses, specifically in the West District, 13th Avenue as a mini boss before Paul Phoenix. The reason why she’s located here is because she just so happens to be on the run from the Mishima Zaibatsu and is thus hopping from place to place consistently. She doesn’t want to risk the safety of any Resistance bases or civillians, and honestly she only really stays in one area for under a week, before moving on to the next place. It’s just that she just so happens to feel this overwhelming creeping dread that she’s being followed and so makes the decision to leave the West District - leading to her coming across face-to-face with Lars and Alisa.

She would probably tag along with Lars and Alisa simply because she’s a notable individual who has stood up against the Zaibatsu that any of the Resistance Cells will be able to recognise her as a non-threat and essentially just be a precaution to ensure the Resistance cells don’t attack a temporarily amnesiac Lars and Alisa, who is just as equally confused-and-curious-about-the-outside-world.

I know this might all seem to be a contradictory statement but they’re actually not in these Resistance areas for too long, so the risk for discovery is much smaller. Still risky, but it does not put as much of a target on their backs as they’re just passing through. Also this would make some of the game make a little more sense because I get it’s a misunderstanding to beat up the resistance cells, but like. It would have been way more interesting if the Zaibatsu put a bounty on Lars’s head and the enemies you fight in the game are people who are desperate for something good to happen in their lives, as there is a promise of a large cash prize.

um. Very important that Lars’ and Ridley’s first interaction is extremely antagonistic (or at least she’s antagonistic to him), and thankfully he’s got amnesia so it doesn’t hurt that he’s getting insulted by the very person who inspired him to breakaway from the Zaibatsu in the first place. Although when he does get his memories back…. Uh. That moment really hurts him a lot. Like he genuinely feels like he’s been gutted like a fish, and it forces him to see Ridley Amora as a person and not the so called icon he’s put on a pedestal- especially since she’s the reason why Yggdrasil exists at all.

Ridley has been a very vocal critic of the Zaibatsu and unfortunately the thought of crossing the path of the Zaibatsu’s former military commanders who defected to form a rebellion out of no where, leaves a VERY bad taste in her mouth. Internally, she wants to be like Lars, she envies him because he was able to build a pretty sizeable community/resistance group together overnight, yet Ridley constantly struggles to keep even a basic friendship group together. She wants what he has.

As the game progresses, more and more banter would occur between Lars and Ridley during the moments between chapters. It starts vitriolic, but slowly that edge shaves itself off and becomes more playful and sarcastic. They start working as a proper team, and even if Lars and Alisa aren’t going to see eye-to-eye with Ridley all the time, they at least appreciate Ridley’s bluntness and brutal honesty. Even if it’s something they don’t want to hear, she is able to keep them grounded in reality and look at things as realistically as possible.

Too bad it takes so long on Ridley’s end to realise that the community she wants is right in front of her. Her guard is still up, but she doesn’t realise her castle walls are starting to show signs of their age for the very first time. They don’t crack yet, at least not until the very tail end of Tekken 6’s campaign mode. It would take all the events of Tekken 7 to tear down those castle walls fully, to then allow her the opportunity to let go of this mental curse she’s placed upon herself, that will finally allow all of those wishes of hers to have a stable unbreakable community around her be met with open arms for her.

Her more brash, cold attitude wont disappear overnight, but at least the edges have been filed down to something much smoother, and at least is a lot nicer than before. She’s not meek, but she’s a much softer person by the end of Tekken 7.

Full disclosure that this post was inspired by this wonderful meme. So you know where my brain is at.

I've been recently working on a Splatoon au for SAF, and this got me thinking about an aspect of one of my character choices. Because the importance and fear of abandonment is a key part of why I think Owen works well as Marina.

Now, being completely frank, the primary reason for my making curtwen be pearlina is because I am biased, and want my one set of faves to be my other set of faves. (Indeed, I have thought about how Owen and Tatiana could well have been the other way around - and this would lead to compelling character choices for both of them! Tatiana as Marina, who is trying to leave behind her past as a prodigious child soldier, would work really well - Owen as Acht, who is left behind and relinquishes their body and free will in avoidance of distraction and pursuit of perfection, is an idea that haunts me.) But there are also ways that I think it works!

During the Chaos vs Order splatfest, I think one of the things that scares Marina most is the idea of losing Pearl. The characters all have slightly different reasons for joining their team in that splatfest, but I always see Marina's as being that the order and status quo she is seeking to protect is the new life she has built with Pearl.

To me, Marina is a character who craves stability and is terrified of being abandoned, specifically because she once uprooted a stable life and abandoned everything she knew. And, while that decision allowed her to escape her home and make her dreams come true, it was nonetheless incredibly turbulent, and I think it feels very fragile for her. I think it feels particularly fragile while Pearl doesn't yet know that Marina is an Octarian (which - goodness, how scared must she have been when Pearl found out?), and the idea of this beautiful reality she has found herself in shattering terrifies her. And the idea of Pearl leaving is most terrifying of all.

I always like the idea that Owen was scared of being abandoned pre-fall. That he felt like everything good might shatter in an instant, that everyone he loved could leave or die without warning, and that it was hard to accept that Curt might actually stay. (And then, once he finally did accept it, once the trust between them grew to the point that Curt leaving Owen behind became unthinkable, the impossible happened.) So this idea of the fear of abandonment is something I'm particularly in favour of as part of my au.

Particularly, one of the things that is especially fun to me, is that in this splatoon au, Owen becomes so scared of being abandoned specifically because he's been the one who left. And he knows how abrupt that was.
