Hello I was just wondering if we could get some more stuff and ideas about the sonadow future museum au (im just going to call it that cuz thats shorter)
heres a quick sketch cuz I really liked the designs👍
Tumblr media
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES YOU CAN AND IL OVE UR STYLE WITH IT???? I love how uncle-chuck-esc Sonic looks it's the exact vibe I wanted him to have 10/10
I'm in the process of writing this au as an actual story but I'm barely a chapter in yet, but I'll give some more snippets about Shadow and a page of sketches! (its a long read im so sorry but thank you for the ask!!)
Tumblr media
Shadow goes by 'Oliver' as his fake name, he took it from a book he read once and liked the cover. They use He/They pronouns and identifies as something non-binary, he's not in a rush to label himself (they joke they've enough to label around the museum)
He lived as a vagabond until settling in Rainmeadow Town, and being taken in by the museum's solo-curator Beatrice, who's a field mouse with a physical disability and was unable to fully access the museum after she took it over from the previous owners.
Shadow adored museums as it was one of the only places he could visit freely so he has a soft spot, and Beatrice was so nice to him so he stayed to help restore it and got too attached he ended up settling down there. He was anxious at first, but its been five years and he's comfortable living there now
He lived with Beatrice for two years, before managing to earn enough from odd-jobs to buy out the small apartment above the local B&B
He has a stray cat he's taken in who wanders around town when he's at work. The cat is known to be vicious but is a sweetheart around Shadow, somewhat mimicking Shadows own demeaner
He dresses himself as unassuming as possible, and that sometimes makes himself a target for any outsiders of the village He gets tired out easily, due to them restricting their energy so much, but they can still fight viciously (almost feral after so many years outside of civilisation) for a short amount of time though would prefer to run. Shadow also needs rest throughout the day
Due to his tight inhibitor rings, Shadows red stripes and eyes have all dimed to a dull grey, his blood however remains a harsh green so he has to be diligent to ensure he doesn't injure himself in front of anyone. If he loosened his rings they would rapidly shift back to a red and he would regain energy to use his abilities, but he hides them and is extremely paranoid about his true identity
He likes to read and cook, and has a habit of reading while walking around even in the dark. He cooks meals for his cat and refuses to give them cat food from a can
He's a huge coffee fan, and loves brewing it himself with the manual machines at home (but also will still absolutely eat the beans straight if it's been a long day)
They haven't 'aged' but they've 'grown bigger' through mutation, their spines and fur are longer so they appear more mature even if internally he hasn't changed much.
He's always wanted a motorbike, but couldn't travel with one and can't afford the upkeep
Their glasses are generic reading glasses that he doesn't really need, but he finds it grounding to have them in his vision (he feels hidden behind them)
Rainmeadow is a known queer-safe town, despite it's remoteness, and the museum has a hall they regularly hold events in (Shadow is fond of the rollerskate hang-outs they schedule)
He has frequent panic attacks and extreme anxiety, they're selectively mute and uses sign (I use BSL when I'm drawing it out) and can't be around large groups of people for too long. He lets Beatrice work at the front of the museum and he lurks around in the back, people jokingly call him a 'shadow' often (and he's gotten used to the fear that shoots down his spine at the mention of his name)
No one knows of his origins, though Beatrice knows some of his vagabond experiences and topics that makes him uneasy
Shadow has met Rouge a handful of times. When he was saving money, he was contacted by her due to his experience in the museum. Due to his lack of background information, she assumed he had been involved in criminal activity and needed his knowledge on artefacts and assistance in restoring something. Shadow agreed reluctantly, but despite his uncertainty he enjoyed working on the things she brought and Rouge found his genuine interest in history and lack of concern for her intentions to be good company. Shadow became her main contact for these things (though she rarely needs his help) and the two are on good terms despite not being close
Rouge has worked with Team Sonic on occasion, and never worked with GUN. She's infamous but her identity is unknown to the public, except her name on her calling card. A few of Sonic's gang know what she looks like as eventually after knowing them for so long she doesn't wear the spy gear around them all the time, but felt strangely comfortable around Shadow rather quickly so he's seen her face

Mix and Match Commentary: Putting it All Together
Tumblr media
What a weekend... That's what I get for thinking I can juggle a dozen things this close to the end of the school year.
It looks like 13 out of 25 different adjectives were used in this contest, as well as 13 out of 25 different nouns! "Belligerent" was the most-used adjective, appearing on three cards, and "Choir" was the most-used noun, appearing on a whopping five cards, but oddly enough there was no Belligerent Choir today. I'll be honest: I'm shocked that nobody went for a Gargantuan Frog or something of the like. There were definitely some favored ideas on display with the given combinations.
And yet, there were a few that truly surprised me! I think that overall I'd call this contest a success. The words on the list were fairly straightforward and also 100% off-the-cuff, so perhaps if you all would like to see this again I can have a more curated list, perhaps taken from some actual cards with the idea that you can't use a name of an actual card in the combo. But hey, we'll see how it goes. How do y'all feel about this contest? It's something I've been wanting to do for a little while now.
There were quite a few cards that almost, but didn't quite, make the cut here, so I'll be talking about them as JUDGE PICKS. Check 'em out to see what we liked about them. Onto the commentary!
~
@an-anarchist-shapeshifter — Umbral Expertise (JUDGE PICK)
Tumblr media
This combination checks out with the card superbly. I'm reminded of cards like Training Grounds, from a vibe perspective, or other cards that would probably depict a location in which a specific form of magic is practiced and honed. This card's mechanics are, to say the least, massively complicated, and it took me a little bit to figure out the real gist of why it works so well. The ability of each player to have shadow creatures makes those decisions harder to pick up on based on board state; I would worry about places where you're behind and have to continuously flicker your cards to make the best blocks, and then there's the option of blinking a creature after blocks if there's a shadow war going on—you get the idea.
Blink shells and aggro shells are both strange places to see cards like this that have the best of both worlds. What I will say is that I worry about how much board complexity this card adds. Making lots of tokens, for example, might be easy to track in digital but harder on paper if there's no good way to show how shadow counters are distributed. And even then, what indicator would be good enough? Would it be the theme of a set, or is this more Commander-focused where you can have these weirder mechanics? I've got a few questions about that, but complexity is my main concern. I can imagine someone being quite upset about a huge board that's inadvertently badly represented because of weird counter checks. Playing with it in a moderately-built board, though—I'd love that.
~
@big-golyat — Ossified Choir
Tumblr media
I find it interesting that both cards that used "Ossified" this week used them with "Choir." Small world! When I looked at this card, the one thing that I wanted from it mechanically was something that it could do with that tap ability that wasn't just, y'know, tapping. Would it have been unreasonable for this card to have "2, T: You gain 1 life" instead? I don't think so. With the notion of a choir, though, exalted is absolutely one of the best mechanics you could've used for the flavor connection, and I totally get that.
Flavor's a strange one here, no? Not a bad one, of course, but I'm wondering if these things are statues, if they're just made of bone, etc. I'm imagining statues because of how it would work with gods, relics, all that stuff. Being enchantment creatures doesn't hurt with that, either. I think that it makes them feel a little more constructed and less naturally, well, that. Regardless of the cool flavor, though, this card would probably be a good addition to an evasive color combination in limited. Exalted is awesome and I like how you can see this as a pseudo-Enlist? Almost? I mean, tapping for extra power is related in at least one way. Smallest of notes: quotation marks go around the periods.
~
@curiooftheheart — Unbound Tomb
Tumblr media
Huh! I like the ETB on here, and I just had a throwback to Zendikar. For some reason I was thinking about cards that exiled without a specific ability tied to them, but then Bojuka Bog hit me, and yeah, this card totally works in that vein. Entering untapped is pretty crazy comparatively; then again, so is not hitting the entire graveyard. What're you going to do, play this against Dragon's Rage Channeler? Possibly. But I don't know if it would be strong enough to mainboard or sideboard, unless you're deep into graveyards and lifegain. Most graveyard hate wants the entire thing to be exiled. De-delirium-ing someone is fun, though, and I wonder if that's what you meant to hit specifically. All the same, though, gaining massive amounts of life ain't nothing. This can probably get 3-5 life fairly consistently in a grindy limited game.
I'm wondering about the name and combination, though. The tomb is in the process of being unbound, sure, and that may be enough; lands are hard to get through with action words if it's not repeatable, and that may be a me issue. And while I like the flavor text, I'm not sure how it precisely relates. Are the ideals mentioned there the things being exiled? It's not a major issue for the card itself, and it's a strange little card to be sure. I think ultimately I like it, and the life gained would only be a problem in formats where it's a) easy to bounce lands for some reason? or b) heavily graveyard-based AND grindy, like Shadows over Innistrad was.
~
@dimestoretajic — Tyrannical Response
Tumblr media
Play this on your turn, and your opponent is basically boardwipe-or-scoop. Play this on an opponent's turn after attackers have been declared, and once more, boardwipe-or-scoop. I would've been totally down for this card making 2/2s, but 4/4s is such a massive swing for the number of creatures that you'll be getting that it's not worth justifying this even as a legendary instant. I respect that you put the limitation, don't get me wrong, and it was the right thing to do. The massive amount of power on board is enough to tip the scales in a way that's probably not as balanced as one might imagine it to be.
But again, one could argue the nature of legends and legendary instants/sorceries, whatever, I know where that's coming from—and I still say that it's too much. The last limited format with legendary instants/sorceries had almost fifty legendary cards that could fulfill that role. Maybe it's a pendulum issue, though... But no, I'm really iffy about this one. Maybe I'm just paranoid about the swingier board states that this could enable. Still, you picked the right combo, name, and flavor text for this kind of effect at the very least. The numbers game is the only thing I'd change.
~
@feyd-rautha-apologist — Belligerent Tomb
Tumblr media
Conceptually, I like this card, so let's work on how to do some editing for it. Firstly: auras have to enchant either objects or players. Graveyards are zones, so a card can't actually enchant a graveyard. Rather, this card should probably be enchanting a player and should probably be a curse as well, so that the text can read: "Whenever a card is put into enchanted player's graveyard from anywhere, that player loses 1 life." For the flavor text, this should probably be in quotes, since it appears to be spoken from the perspective of a specific character and not a general ephemeral being or omniscient extrapolating voice.
This enchantment, however, has got a lot of power problems going for it. Turning something like Tome Scour into a Lava Axe, which you can do quite easily on turn three, barring any Hedron Crab shenanigans, is a bit much when comparing cost to effect. I know that it seems expensive, but I wouldn't be shocked if this had to cost as much as 3BB overall. 2BB might be okay, I suppose, depending on how much milling is in the set that you can force onto your opponent. Again, not a bad idea, but the power, practicality, and wording could use some work.
~
@hypexion — Belligerent Spirit
Tumblr media
One must be punished for being alive, after all. This card's simple for sure, but it does the Undying stuff well enough for me to say that it's really a pain and I'd love to play it in limited. Swing, get in kinda, sac, etc. A four-mana 2/2 might not seem great until you also have extra damage and a recursive body to think about. Having it be a 2/3 wouldn't necessarily be out of the question either, would it? Or would that throw off some numbers... I dunno, but either way, I could definitely see this blowing up in draft tier lists.
Is it just modern sensibilities that make this card difficult to balance without being too powerful? I don't know, honestly; Murderous Redcap was good in its day and this is pretty much in the same vein, innit? I don't think that it's too far off from that design and I...honestly just noticed that it was that close when writing this. Heh. But in all seriousness, it fits the name, it fits the ability, and I don't think anyone would complain about a Redcap effect being in limited, the more I think about it. That said, I've never played with it. Last note, but the flavor text is 85% there. It's an awesome notion and I'd love to tweak some wording in the editing bay. The vibe is great.
~
@izzet-always-r-versus-u — Impossible Notion
Tumblr media
I think this card needed one more line of rules text: that you could spend colorless mana as though it were mana of any color to cast it. Would that have been too much? Or would that even be relevant? The point is, I'm not quite meeting this card on the mechanics side. The name and ability combination, though, not only makes sense but also feels like it wants to have some kind of Eldrazi invocation. Getting things back from exile by a) casting them and b) having to own them and c) having to spend colorless mana all makes sense for a restriction.
Then the question remains: should this card exist, and why? Getting things out of exile has long since been a bit of a thorn in R&D's side. Combining this with Karn, the Great Creator—or at least putting them in the same design-space room and letting them duke it out—makes for a deck that really puts a damper on things. Insta-speed Relic of Progenitus plus this is a real pain. In limited, what would this card do then? I honestly couldn't tell you. This card may not be too bad for a one-time use, I'll give you that. I'm struggling to find an argument in favor of its presence, though, strictly based on the rules that have been set for exile recursion and the prevalence of problematic possibilities for which this card allows. Still, a bold design for sure—even if the flavor text could be a little meatier.
~
@masternexeon — Ravenous Overflow (JUDGE PICK)
Tumblr media
I was actually quite happy that multiple people took abstract nouns and made creatures out of them. This card is, additionally, a real pain in the butt and ravenous indeed. You know I really like how you framed this combination of green and blue here. There's a force of nature that's representative of consumption, but that consumption is also taking the form of flooding and overtaking the land (and its inhabitants) through how much it's flowing. Green gets its hunger sated, but not by flesh; blue gets its domain expanded, but is forced by ferocity. It's a cool balance. That's one of the major reasons I'm going with it as a Judge Pick this week!
Whether or not this card is balanced is another thing, and it's really funny regardless to turn everything into Islands. The thing to keep in mind is that turning something into an Island without it being a land... I honestly don't know what that would do. Seriously, I took a few hours off after reading the comprehensive rules—I know, long weekend—and I don't have a definitive answer. To be fair I wasn't sure what to look for but the point stands. I think the payoff might be a bit too swingy in limited, honestly. Sacrifice two random creatures to more or less shut off your opponent's big threats and/or mana sources, and then use any additional synergy to permanently keep your opponents off their colors unless they're also blue? Seems a bit hard to stem the flow, pardon the pun. But how can you scale the effect to keep this while adjusting the numbers? And also by putting "Island lands" instead of just "Islands." Saves me a headache.
~
@misterstingyjack — Abandoned Choir
Tumblr media
I did ultimately like this card even if I wasn't super convinced about it. That said, the card draw could be pretty neat—I suppose I was just more swayed by Amonkhet's designs and the use of counters as a resource, because this can kind of turn itself into a draw resource and/or potentially use other cards with defender and the ilk as resources, but it's a bit...narrow? Maybe Amonkhet had its different themes that it was working with, and Phyrexia is a little iffier on that front. I do like how you've used white card-draw to its strengths, though. This feels like reasonable space.
So how often will one have three toughness? Probably often enough to make a difference. I do wonder how this card would've played with the change to do a creature with power 1 or less instead. I honestly don't know if that would be too powerful considering an abundance of tokens and/or weenies, but hey, it's an end step effect, whaddaya gonna do. This card really is a thinker. I do appreciate the writeup, though, and I think that as an Aftermath-y card, I can totally buy what the effect was going for. What's a choir to do in Norn's wake? Sing the praises and all, which makes sense to me. I'm also very curious as to why this is the second mono-white Choir with an implied self-tapping theme. What's up with the psychic connection here?
~
@partytimesdeluxe — Freshwater Tomb (JUDGE PICK)
Tumblr media
There's this wonderful freshness to this design combination that feels great even if the practicality is a bit strange. What's the best-case scenario for this card in terms of mana-fixing? I suppose that a hybrid card dying would make for a great trigger, but beyond that, this card feels a lot slicker than I imagine it to play. Y'know? I think that a lot of folks liked this design because of how it feels. On the battlefield, I have to wonder if this card would do everything that one wants it to do. Protecting a creature from being animated and/or cycling the creatures that die is...also something.
I suppose I too want this design to play well but I'm not sure what the true benefit is. Perhaps I'm not seeing something? If this land was, like, Bloom Tender...hoo boy. Would that be too powerful? Or, if it was "1, T: Add two mana in any combination..." That way it could turn dying creatures into XX, XY, or YY, depending on if they were multicolored or now. Multiple ways of filtering. Honestly that sounds a lot stronger than the one-mana restriction. Child of Alara dying would help this card, sure, but beyond that... I think I'm picking this card because the possibilities and the slickness are absolutely there. It's just on the brink of being perfect in terms of actual gameplay; I absolutely need to praise the idea because, well, of how cool it feels!
~
@piccadilly-blue — Plentiful Canyon
Tumblr media
Alright, so, neat as the notion is, I think everyone is in agreement that this card doesn't 100%-functionally-work, and the only question is why within the comprehensive rules. As far as I can tell, the main reason is that playing a land is a special action that doesn't use the stack, and can't have costs associated with it, because playing a land isn't a spell and additional costs only exists for spells and abilities. Assuming that everything within the comprehensive rules is how I understand it, you could play this land and pay its cost with its own mana ability since there's no moment that this card would be on the "stack," i.e. it would exist on the battlefield by the time you would have to pay the "cost" to play it.
...God, does that make any sense? I hope it does. Regardless, the discussions have been discussed and I think that we're all in agreement. I've talked a zillion times about your envelope-pushing and how much it makes me think so we'll leave it there. The flavor text, then! I like the rhyme here. Feels like the western prairie ballad that you were aiming for, and that's a great addition to the vibe of the card.
~
@real-aspen-hours — Draconic Absolution
Tumblr media
The flavor text here is great, and the implication is pretty cool; it feels kind of like Jund's dragon worship but with less of a predatory-shaman nature and more aligned with the Phyrexian-style divinity that is creepy and powerful all at once. I'm starting with the flavor and feeling here because—and I'm not sure if this was intentional or not—this card is an upgraded Rip Apart from Strixhaven. Where Rip Apart destroyed instead of exiling and was sorcery speed, this card is just that but slightly better.
Is that enough? Not exactly. If there was consideration for Rip Apart, I really would've liked to see a mechanical distinction beyond "strictly better." If there wasn't, well, I don't blame you; it's a clean design and clearly someone at Wizards thought the same thing if the card was actually printed. Tried and true, I suppose? That's unfortunately all I got for this particular card considering all of the considerations. In the end, I think that we're left with one last request: make sure you put your rarity indicators in your text submissions! Argh.
~
@reaperfromtheabyss — Freshwater Lasso (JUDGE PICK)
Tumblr media
I'll give this card the award for "most physically imaginative use of world tropes in conjunction with the name." Lassoing things is super on-par for Thunder Junction, and I love how you connected that to the name. And we gotta agree—this lasso is indeed fresh and watery. Hydromancy allows for this card to really come into its own, and I love how it can be something that revolves around potential dexterity for untapping creatures, or as a prison for your opponent's creatures.
I wish this didn't have to be a rare, but like, it really really does. Insta-speed gaining control of a creature is something that can't happen too often in limited. The fact that it is instant-speed definitely ups the complexity. I don't mind that at all! Could there be one additional thing that this card does to make it so that putting it on your own creature doesn't suck as much? Well, actually, gaining control of a creature that you can then untap is...really cool. Man, this card is cool. We had a lot of strong contenders for this week and this is as close to being in the top six as you can get, honestly. Maybe I've just been enamored with Thunder Junction but I don't care because of how darn cool this card feels. Good job.
~
@sombramainexe — Kindred Spirit
Tumblr media
So for the render here, the name did have to change in order to fit the contest; pluralizing the names does indeed count as changing the words, ergo, disallowed. Regardless of whether or not is was changed, I'm not a fan of having the name and typeline be the same thing. Perhaps it was a mistake to have "Kindred" be part of the adjectives list considering the kind of cards that a name like that drives people towards. I'm still working on it. With this particular card I feel that the name could have been changed because of the fact that it's not currently giving as much without AD or flavor text. The tongue-in-cheek aspect comes across as ultimately derivative instead of subversive, which is what I imagine the intent to be.
Mirrorweave is still a valid card, though, and I think that this card is an interesting take on it. Turning things into Spirits could be an awesome blowout. Why do the names not change, though? I imagine that it's because of legendary rules, and I understand that—is there a different way to go about it? I think that this is honestly completely new design space, because as far as I can tell there's no mass copy effect that allows creatures to keep their names. I wonder what the design principle behind that is, and I'd be curious to hear.
~
@stupidstupidratcreatures — Magnificent Mortar
Tumblr media
Hey. Listen. Don't look at the card, look at me. Okay? I think that this is hilarious. This is a very, very funny card and I'm also a little bit mad. But it's still funny. But I'm a tiny-teensy-little bit mad. And I can't help but admire the fact that you designed a card with an implied second card that will, as far as we know, never exist. That's chutzpah if I've ever seen it. As for the interpretation of "mortar" here, I was thinking more in terms of salvos when I made this card and less about the combination, and yet you're here with one of the most creative combinations I've seen.
Mashing up creatures for mana is awesome, actually, and the way to activate it with a pestle is funny enough. As far as mana rocks go, I don't think that this card is the most powerful and I wish that it could've had one additional ability to really get the pestle's power online. You know how there was the whole "Blank of Empires" cycle of artifacts from some core set a while back? M12, that was it, right. But yeah, no, the abilities really ramped up because it's hard to get artifacts with the same name on the battlefield at the right time. Might want to consider that in terms of power level for next time. I'm gonna be very concerned if there's a future contest in which the Perfect Pestle can make an appearance, but hey, the world may never know if I accidentally do that one. Heh.
~
@tanknspank — Draconic Choir (JUDGE PICK)
Tumblr media
I think we're in the realm, once again, of having really cool cards with really cool abilities that happen to be so normally and pragmatically good that they just barely miss the ledge of greatness. Having that pseudo-flashback kind of effect, the Dreadhorde Arcanist ability, is really cool, and stacking those triggers is necessary for making this effect really max out. It's a bear that beats in limited and burns out your opponent before blocks. What more can one ask for?
The last question I could possibly have is why "Choir" was such a popular choice this week. What was it about that word that just made people go nuts with these collective designs? I'm not complaining, I'm just really surprised. A choir of dragons is still pretty awesome, though, so I won't complain about that. What world would this be on? It feels almost like a Baldur's Gate kind of style, but that's probably not it. Maybe the "choir" is a metaphorical one and all the roaring is what brings the fire to life. Who can say, who can say. All the same, this card is a self-evident wonderful piece of work and I think that it should be commended for its solid design choices as a support card for limited and constructed spellslinging decks.
~
@wildcardgamez — Kindred Banner
Tumblr media
We have a mix between Pillar of Origins and Rally the Ranks; Is that enough? I think, while this design is normal, its effects are really generic slash expected. Kindred means creature types, banner is an anthem. I feel that this could've been flavored somewhat, or given more mechanical significance that we haven't seen before. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen this exact combination, but it's a normal enough effect that I can imagine we'll see something like it in the future of design.
So, I'll say for the rest of this commentary to take a look at the uniqueness of the winners and the expectations for them. Or... No, actually, I won't do that. Because I'm not going to say that this card is bad. It's pure good design, based on the foundations of the creature-type-matters effects that we've seen printed before, and what else can one possibly ask for. I think there's the question to ask: are you submitting for the contest, or are you submitting to show you know what a good card is? That's something I can't answer, so I can offer only a couple small edits, and leave the rest up to you. Firstly: you probably want this as an "as" ability, like most of these creature type effects are. There are many reasons why, but the stack is a pain. Secondly: Like Pillar of Origins, you want to say "spend" instead of "use" in the text of the second ability, and you might also want to add that this is for abilities too if you want that.

honestly same...I also only stick to reading the same ifs I've been reading since like 2 years ago + as a disabled lgbt person this community has gotten to toxic to interact wth tbh
hmmm putting this under a read more but here's some ramblings about my personal experience as well as some advice if anyone wants it
before i started writing tnp, when i was just a reader, it was very easy to curate my space and avoid a lot of the nastier people (especially back when the forums were the main space for people to talk about IF. i didn't go on the forums at all) and i was very much outside of the fandom and followed only like one artist whose recommendations i started off with before finding more stuff on my own.
once i became an author though it is impossible to avoid certain groups of people and it's really hard to hold on to that comfortable space. over the last like 3 years now my audience has definitely changed and dwindled a lot due to my.... Big personality but before that i had to endure a lot of harassment, people stalking me, people harassing my friends just for being my friend, almost constant transphobia and racism, and even now i still have people that seem to just camp in my inbox waiting for any opportunity to try and hurt me/get a reaction out of me.
i've been pretty open about all of this stuff happening too which most people also don't like, though that seems to be pretty standard across any fandom when you try to talk about how bad they are. i'm never really surprised when other authors delete without any warning or they just slowly stop posting and never come back. it's definitely something i've wanted to do more than once and still think about sometimes. even now after finally seeming to find my "niche" and a more understanding audience, it's really hard and i struggle with finding inspiration and motivation because of how people have treated me.
unfortunately i think it's always been this way, it's the nature of sharing work online and especially with IF feeling so "collaborative" people really feel entitled to it. and i also see readers facing this same kind of harassment, too, so it's definitely not just an author problem.
my advice is to just block and ignore people as best you can and just stay in your own little bubble with your friends or at least people that you trust. if you're an author going through any of the things i mentioned then just know there are a lot of other authors that have had to go through it, too, and that you should also just block and ignore to the best of your ability. just because you're an author doesn't mean you have to tolerate it. i used to respond to a lot of messages which is why i feel that a lot of my harassment lasted for so long, because they thought it was "funny" to upset me, but the more you respond and give them attention the more they'll keep doing it. so just block anons and move on (i know i make it sound so simple. trust me i used to be really bad about it, now i try to take at least a day or two before responding and usually by that time i realize how stupid it is and i just delete it without any fanfare)
at the end of the day though it's your decision, and your well-being comes first before anything else. i say this to both authors and readers, there's no reason to force yourself to stay in a place that makes you uncomfortable or is triggering. sometimes it's better to just let go and move on, though i know that's easier said than done. i'm a prime example as someone who still logs into tumblr daily despite trying really hard not to do that.
and i'm not saying to give up on your work, but rather that writing privately is always an option, and it's what i've been doing now with my other projects ever since i took siren's call down. i know the desire for outside validation can be overwhelming but i think it's important to remember that you should be writing this for yourself first and that there's no harm in keeping your work private until you're ready. tumblr is fun but there's also a lot of problems that can be difficult to deal with while you're also trying to keep motivation and creativity up to write your story, and it can be really discouraging.
like i said, your first priority should be yourself, and if you have to step back away from tumblr/fandom then you should & you shouldn't feel guilty about it.
all of that to say that there are nice people out there, too, i've made really good friends here and i really value their friendship and their understanding, especially when i was going through the worst of it. and there are a lot of readers who have been very kind to me and that have sent me very nice messages and drawn lovely art over the years and i always try to focus on that over everything else.
it can be really easy to get overwhelmed by all the negativity and hostility which is why it's so important to find your people and be supportive of each other.

Hi 9. I hope you are well. Your blog has been a balm for my soul in dark times, read your comments full of confidence it's like fresh air.
I would like to ask if recently or in the past, you have received unpleasant comments saying that we are wrong in what we believe in addition to adding insults, etc. How have you learned to deal with it and if at any point have they hurt you emotionally?
aw heyy thanks for saying that!
oh yeah over the years i’ve had my share of flack and insults in my inbox or maybe i’ve had an altercation here or there, and sometimes you can put a bandaid on and go about your day but usually it’s still a cut you can feel. i guess the tl;dr: would be, i think that over the years ive learned to find the right blend of environment and outlook that sets me up to have it hurt less. also i think being able to contextualize hate dismantles its power greatly.
the big thing that youve got to have the ability to laugh at yourself. this is such a wild situation to be in! embrace it. a little self deprecation goes a long way. if you let go of the need to be understood by everyone and you recognize how wild of a situation it is that we are in, and if you can laugh about it, it cures most things imo.
next you have to keep the context of the hate in mind. a lot of things i’ve had said to me just dont hurt because i know the people saying them just don’t understand what they’re talking about 😆 maybe this comes with time.. like maybe if you hang around long enough it will click, but people from different parts of the fandom are speaking from completely different languages of meaning and beliefs and so i’ll see a comment and just be like wow that’s so fascinating how this person got compelled to compose that and say it with their whole chest. couldn’t be me!
another thing is just, it has a lot to do with where we are at and what i believe or what other like minded people do. to us, we have kiiinda already reached a kaylor win condition. i know people would disagree and i get why, but to me, in the grand scheme of things, i don’t feel the need to argue or defend because we’re already there. we’ve already made it! all the rest is a bonus to me. and so what this outlook does is it makes any hate seem really really quaint. like don’t care if rude people don’t understand. why would they deserved to? 😆 they should stay right where they are.
i think hate can hurt more when you at a point where you are less confident of what you think or if you want to listen to everyone and make sense of everyone as a way to uphold ‘fairness’ or a sense of a greater community but, when you are around long enough and get a better sense of each groups’ different motivations, you come to realize that your good intentions to involve and convince everyone is a bit of a fool’s errand because at the tops of each group is a core that will never move from their position. in the end it’s just more about a personal journey, i think. and i think usually you pick a lane or a group and just stick to it and most of the drama feels different because when you stop feeling the need to litigate, hate becomes confrontation for confrontation’s sake, and then the hate stops being about you, and you can see it as a part of a bigger thing.
also one key thing… i think it’s eons easier to avoid everyday conflict on places like tumblr than on twitter. it’s easier to curate what you have on your blog and its not a very public facing platform so things are more quiet and don’t spread to the general public. this filters out a ton. and there’s less eyes on your stuff and like people can screenshot and bitch on their own space but it’s not a quote tweet so you don’t really have this sense if you’re being talked about. you can block and even block individual IP’s, or on the flip side you can monitor activity on statcounter and see patterns of where messages come from and it kind of dismantles the mystique of them. tumblr makes it a lot easier to just do your thing. it’s not always in your face. and i would have a different persona and talk differently if i was on a different platform.
and i think people in general are better at staying in their lane here than on other platforms. over the years we have all sort of found our pockets and in general we stay in them, i think! so the stuff i do get is just always worded and delivered in the same way so i know its from the same people so it’s a little bit like kramer popping in on any given episode of seinfeld. it’s just part of the routine at this point 😆

i wondered if you had anything i could read about your perspective on ai art stuff. im wary of it as an artist whos had trouble finding work, some of the jobs i would normally do as a contractor are being replaced with ai that in some cases very closely copies specific peoples labor, and the wages are dropping and youre expected to deliver much quicker to compete with the machines, which is my main issue. in a vacuum, it would be a cool tool, but i worry about making rent.
I have a lot of discussion about it in my posts on deepdreamnights.tumblr.com, under the fold on various posts. My stances on IP have been consistent for a very long time. I think copyright terms need to be slashed, fair use is essential, and that people do not own culture.
I'm not going to lie, jobs will be lost over this tech. It is to no one's advantage to pretend that a technology this powerful won't change the landscape. The advances in computer assisted animation put hand animators out of work, but it also opened up the possibility of small teams doing independent animation online. I think we'll see similar outcomes here.
I'm also an artist who works on commission. I am mainly a 3d modeller and graphic designer, but I do digital painting, photomanipulation, character design. The AI hasn't come for 3d quite yet, but it's coming. Graphic design has been very automated for quite some time. I'm not a carpetbagger or an outside invader, I'm a working artist, in the trenches, adapting to the new tools.
By working AI into my workflow, I've been able to ramp up my abilities. I can mock up mood pieces and concepts with AI, offer a client far more options than I'd have the time to do on spec, and then develop those ideas manually and with AI assistance.
I've used image prompting to work up wild variations on my own character designs to break through artist block and get a quick glimpse of whether a direction is interesting to go before putting my increasingly stiff, pain-riddled fingers to drawing it out by hand. There's opportunities there, and a trained artist with AI as a tool is going to outstrip an artistic layperson with the same gear.
There's also going to be opportunities to sell your abilities on the things that AI does poorly. Consistency, responsiveness to client feedback, cohesion with aspects like narrative. Symbolism and visual wit. Getting it right, or close to, on the first attempt.
That's part of why I share my processes and my prompts. I want people to have an honest understanding of what the tech is capable of, and actual facts about how it works. I hammer home how everything is curated, because while I have posted hundreds of AI generated and assisted pieces...
Tumblr media
Those are the cream of the crop.
I hope this helps.

hello! im sorry if you get asked this a lot, but I was curious how you got into doing art ttrpg? and what should an interested artist have in their portfolio? thank you 💖
hi! so i wrote out a big "how to" before re-reading your message and considering you maybe just... asked how it happened for *me*, not necessarily how someone else should do it LOL. so, how it happened for me: i've been actively courting freelance art work since ~2009, and fantasy ttrpg is a natural extension of my interests - my portfolio was already full of world of warcraft fanart by the time ttrpgs & D&D really started having their modern moment. TTRPG is a good low-to-mid level place to find leads, as well, because the barrier for entry is super low for creators, which means a lot MORE projects to go around. (If you want to make a board game, your artist has to know a LOT about packaging, printing, manufacturing, graphic design, etc. if you wrote a D&D module and just want to publish it on itch.io? your artist only needs to know how to send you a decent sized .jpg.) as far as portfolio goes, when i started getting consistent replies to my cold emails, my portfolio had mostly covers and half-pages (ie, narrative illustrations), portraits, and animals. If you want to be more well-rounded you could also include pieces focusing on environments, items, and creatures. Don't include anything unless it's GOOD though. (i am so serious about this - bad work in your portfolio makes the good stuff look like a fluke.) now. if you wanted a "how to" answer, here is 600 words lol. I'm gonna start with the base assumption that your work is already hirable so we can focus on just like, specialization + client acquisition tips. getting a folio up to snuff is a whole other can of beans short version goes like this:
Tumblr media
this whole thing only works if you have the ability to honestly self-assess. new work & skills: you should have fresh stuff that's a snapshot of what you can do *right now.* this doesn't mean old work can't stay in your folio if it's still good, but a small, current folio that really hits is WAY better than a bloated old one with irrelevant studies or student work. new artistic peers: as you continue to evolve as a professional, you should have an idea of which other working artists your work is most similar to, in terms of skill/tone/specialties/other relevant skills (3D/graphic design/etc) in order to see how you stack up to your """competition""" for lack of a better word. Additionally those artistic peers have hangout zones (discords or FB groups, etc) where you can talk shop & pass around job leads. research peers' clients: research who those peers are contracting with. See if your work would be a fit for them; if so, find their contact info and put it on your list. Those clients are probably also promoting other similar projects or publishers on their feeds; twitter has a handy "you might also want to follow" list that has other similar accounts you can explore. You can also work backwards from the product to the creator (see any cool battle maps, CCGs, board games, etc? find out who made it and whether they're the ones doing the art hiring.) Additionally, those discords & fb groups I mentioned will have leads (of varying quality) shared around that you should be assessing as they come in. reach out to new batch of clients: cold email. be realistic about who's worth contacting, but don't self-disqualify. that part is a balance. art directors are people with problems to solve, and you need to be able to A. anticipate the problems they need solving, and B. confidently (and honestly) let them know exactly what you can do for them. Attach A FEW, SMALL, RELEVANT jpgs that they can easily download and keep for reference. do not send massive high res attachments, their inboxes are full enough as it is. If you're responding to a specific call, attach relevant pieces or curate a page on your portfolio site specifically for work that would fit the project. If reaching out to clients doesn't result in a lead - *or*, if it takes them 3 months to get back to you, you should spend that time doing your own stuff and bolstering your skills. eventually your portfolio will be good enough that it kicks down doors for you.
you'll notice i never included "be active on social media! post your new work! feed instagram's ad revenue by giving it more content!" in this strategy because it doesn't matter. i'm not professionally active on any social media. we were getting hired before twitter existed and we'll still get hired after it dies. just do make sure you have an online portfolio (your own website >> artstation >>> other free folio builders >>>>>>>>>>>> an instagram feed.) the more times you do this cycle the easier it gets; both because you'll just get good at every step of the process, and because more people will know you and have known you for *longer* so you seem like a safer bet. I'll be honest: it's a ton of rejection lmao. I would get a rejection in my inbox at least once a week - even more than that i'd just get radio silence. But eventually you'll get a yes, and if you're lucky that yes will result in high quality new work you're proud of and can put into your folio (taking you back to step 1 lol.)
the freelance life is (INSHALLAH!!!) behind me since i now have a full time job doing marketing/supporting art for video games. But my portfolio never would've gotten there if i didn't have the experience of going through the freelance meat grinder first. it really taught me how to be an actualized *creative* (who can stand up for her own expertise, think like a project manager, and take creative ownership of / responsibility for my assignments) and not just a hired hand. my team likes that. i think

Kitsune!Anakin AU
-Shoves fist in mouth- I'm being so normal about this AU so have some more thoughts on this because free real estate:
When the fuck is this set. Or better yet, when does it start? I wanna say early war just so this transformation can be as inconvenient as possible for Anakin. WAIT NO, It happens while he's still a Padawan, right before he’s supposed to be put on guard duty for Padme. It almost has him taken off (Anakin nearly pitches a fit) but the truth is they don't have another Master/Padawan pair to put on it and Padme knows them so she's more likely to be accepting of it.
YES because this would change AotC in subtle ways (and give ME the opportunity to take a baseball bat to certain timeline events). It would also mean that the first time the clones meet Anakin, he's already foxed up and they just ... accept that shit at face value. They don’t know he didn’t used to have ears and tails. He grows his hair out in an attempt to hide his ears among the floof. It doesn’t work. Trying to curate this image of a badass General during the war is a little hampered by the ears he has no control over whatsoever.
I could have tied this to the Feral!Anakin AU but that's more to do with the amnesia and the fucky nature that is half of him being the Force itself. I can do more in that AU re: partial transformations/adaptability morphing. I am, however, going to mix in a lot of the stuff I had planned in the Intervention AU here because the fox characteristics would be a huge neon sign to his inner problems and how he is not working on any of them.
And we’re still going so under a read more it is.
It starts, as all good AUs do, with Force Temple interference. It feels Anakin walk in and goes, 'no, that human form is not becoming of you' and gives him an overhaul. Anakin is less than impressed because he now has to deal with two very fluffy tails that were not there before (he starts with two instead of one because bullshit power levels). Obi-Wan gives it his patented and classic consideration of ‘oh dear’ which only winds up his padawan further and poof full fox form. And it’s tiny.
The only reason Obi-Wan is not laughing out loud is because he has the control and patience of a fucking mountain. But he is literally just this on the inside:
Tumblr media
This is what you deserve, Anakin. This is what you get for being a little shit. A trickster fox spirit suits you perfectly. Obi-Wan can pick up his Padawan like a handbag and Anakin is even less enthused about this. He doesn’t complain as much if he gets to snag a ride in the hood of Obi-Wan's cloak though.
To start with, the full fox form is smol, like a cat, but he gets bigger as he develops more tails. He can go back to being toy sized if he wants though through shapeshifter abilities. Ahsoka fucking LOVES being able to just cart her Master around it’s so funny, he can fit right between her montrals like a hat. He puts up with it because it makes her happy but he’s glaring at everyone over her head if they dare say a word. If Rex finds his fun-sized General taking a nap in his helmet, no he didn’t.
Christ how could I forget the screaming. The dramatic little bitch that he is just going off like a tea kettle at the slightest inconvenience. You want to annoy the enemy really fast? Fives wants to do a yell-off? Some asshole won’t shut up disrespecting the clones? Anakin just transforms, opens his jaws and screams. It’s just as unearthly as a regular fox screaming too.
More technical info:
Partial fox form keeps the tails (very fluffy, convenient cushions) but also ears, claws, and sharp teeth. His mouth gets unnaturally wide when he laughs, like he's shifting into a fox set of jaws.Theoretically, with shapeshifter abilities he should be able to make himself look fully human...should.
He keeps shifting between full fox and humanoid due to emotional instability.
His eyes stay blue, maybe almond pupils, or maybe the whole eye goes blue with intense emotion so you can't see the whites anymore. Fur colour is the same as his hair colour with dark point colouration. Maybe he gets that point markings on his arms and legs too.
Dark Timeline, Vader briefly hits seven tails but gets capped back at five because Obi-Wan cut off his last two that appeared during the fight on Mustafar. He has inverted colours, so dark fur and gold tipped tails (i'm just a whore aesthetically for black with gold highlights tbh). This AU won’t actually see the rise of Vader though because I dust my hands off with canon.

This is what I wrote to Tumblr Support. I recommend you do the same. Feel free to use my post as inspiration:
The announced Tumblr algorithm-centric strategy is something that alienated the VAST MAJORITY of Tumblr's user base, not a minority. Your UNIQUE SELLING POINT is timeline curation. It is why users returned here from Twitter.
You can tell us we can turn off whatever you have planned all you like, but the main draw, the thing that is making people go to Tumblr over Threads and BlueSky, is that it's fundamentally shaped around user-curation and choice.
People have the 'choice' to change back to 'Following' from 'For You' or Twitter, but they hate it. They complain endlessly about not seeing their friends anymore and only seeing hate-mongering irrelevant content, even though 'Following' is alright there as a tab they can switch back to. You must have the stats showing you no one looks at the currently existing 'for you' tab. Literally, no one wants this.
More over, you say we can turn off features we don't like, but this isn't true. We have been BEGGING you for the ability to turn off the stalker-enabling 'fan mail' feature for years.
The Tumblr community has the character it does, and resists platform manipulation (in the manner of Cambridge Analytics) the way it does precisely because of the unique features you describe as negatives. The fact that conversations can never be more than a few reblogs long or they take over the dash. This has uniquely allowed minority communities to flourish and articulate their experiences, where they would be overwhelmed by bigots anywhere else. By saying you want to change this, you are saying you want to enable platform manipulation, bigotry, and harassment.
This is not how you attract new users when people are flocking to Mastodon, despite its UI flaws, because we don't want to be thought-controlled by advertisers anymore.
Curation of the feed has always been Tumblrs USP, and at a time when users have finally had enough and are leaving platforms that don't enable curation, you're turning away from that? This is barmy!
If you had a Curation Strategy, and leaned in to Tumblr's strengths, you would have so many more users. For example, at the moment, indie publishing is floundering for a new home. People talk about this A LOT. Because people are trying everything, people can see that we get more engagement on Mastodon because it allows users to curate their feed, in contrast to Twitter's algorithm, which buries posts unless you already have a large following (exactly what you say you want to combat - why on earth would you pivot to algorithms to help new users?? They're toxic to new users, who are never seen by anyone!). But people find the Mastodon interface challenging, and the Mastodon culture actively hostile to commercial posts that promote work.
You have a HUGE opportunity here to be the platform of choice for indie commerce. In the current economy, almost everyone has a side hustle. Curation strategy supports small creators. If you focused on curation-enabling features you could win people over IN DROVES.
At the moment, my indie publishing side blog can't follow anyone. If you let us follow from side-blogs the ability to network would vastly increase!
If you let us have tabs for lists, people could have a feed full of their personal interests but ALSO follow more commercial stuff, such as indie creators. The networks people have lost leaving Twitter would become so much easier to foster on Tumblr than anywhere else. Suddenly Tumblr could stop being the dirty secret people hide and start being a communication HUB, because you could easily distinguish your fan squee from your NSFW from your business activities.
The possibilities if you lean into curation, rather than away from it, are endless.
Leaning into the algorithm stunts possibilities, alienates the current user groups, and leaves you trailing behind the competition that already have that garbage sewn up.
Nobody wants what you are pivoting towards. What you have currently represents an amazing opportunity.
Dismissing our concerns and calling the majority of your user base a 'minority' is just insulting - you're not reassuring anyone. Please reconsider. This is the worst decision you ever made.
You had fostered so much good will from us, after everything. That you would, in a single move, destroy all of that, is beyond puzzling and insulting. It's very stupid.

[tw internalized aphobia]
hi!
i always felt good about my aroace identity. i always took a lot of pride in it and never struggled with it, but lately i’ve been thinking that it would’ve been better if i just identified as bisexual (i used the bi label before aro and ace). seeing some posts here really made me think that it would be just a lot simpler if i was in fact bi and not aroace.
i know that labels don’t have to be “old” to be legitimate, but i feel that some people online still see it that way? it makes me wish i was one of these labels that are seen as legitimate and real.
do you have any advice to deal with this internalized aphobia? i try to curate my online space as best of my ability but there’s always a voice in my head that keeps coming back saying it’d be better if i was bi instead.
sorry if this is too much information. your blog is a safe space for me i really appreciate your attention to answering asks and helping people. i hope your doing well 🤍
Yeah curating your online experience is definitely a good first step. Make sure you're also making good use of blacklisting options too. The more you see things that reinforce your internalized aphobia the harder it will be to work through that.
The other thing I'd recommend is go out of your way to regularly see and consume positive a-spec stuff. So that can be following blogs, which it sounds like you're already doing, but seeking out videos, checking out community, spaces, etc. I think it's especially really good to just see aces and aros talk about being ace and aro and talk about their own experiences.
Do you know any ace or aro people? Are you friends with any allies? If not, maybe consider joining an ace/aro discord server or something like that. So you have people you can talk to about being aroace.
If you're not already I'd also look into aroace media, there's more rep coming out all the time and some of it's really good. I've personally really enjoyed the Jughead 2015 run from Archie comics, Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger (YA Novel), and The Magnus Archives (Podcast) all of which have a-spec main characters. Alice Oseman is someone else to watch too, she's aroace and has a-spec characters throughout her works. Her book Loveless is specifically about an aroace college student coming to terms with her identity (this could be a bit raw if you're in a similar place), but if you're watching her current show Heartstoppers, Isaac is aroace as well and she's promised there'll be more a-spec content next season.
In general if you're not sure where to look for media, googling lists (such as books with ace characters, podcfasts with aro characters. etc) is usually a pretty effective way to find ace/aro media.
If you're comfortable with it another thing you can consider it pride stuff. If you don't want visible pride stuff around that will out you, maybe you can get a subtle pride art for your phone background or something like that.
Basically you want to connect with your identity, so not just see positive things about but also feel it.
Another thing you can do is some exercises to help yourself think differently. If you can identify the negative thought processes you're having about being aroace, or about it being better to be bi, you can consciously stop them and correct yourself.
So for example if you're thinking 'aroace is a newer coined label and people won't take it serously', you can stop and remind yourself that actually it's a term that has become very widely accepted in a short amount of time, including by most major lgbtq orgs. Or that the people who say that are jerks and their opinion on your identity doesn't really matter (or whatever resonates with you).
And you don't have to do more than that, just a gentle correction and move on with your day.
Another exercise that may help could be something like journaling, where once a week or something you like about the label aroace. So it could be listing things you like about being aroace, it could be things you like the community, things you like about the label itself, it doesn't matter. But that will help get you in the habit of thinking positive things or making positive associations with your label.
So generally speaking it takes time to unlearn internalized oppression. There's no flip you're going to switch and suddenly do better. But usually once you've identified it and you're making an effort, it will usually gradually get better. It's important to give yourself time though and be patient with the process.
All the best, Anon! Good luck!

5 Factors to Consider While Choosing a Camera for a Construction Site
Where do you find a lot of expensive equipment? At construction sites. Thieves know that! Once they find any construction site with lesser security, they veer toward it without delay. The risk of theft and vandalism at these sites is more than at any other location. Hence, securing the site with a construction security camera is essential.
So, understanding the same, you have decided to invest in a camera for a construction site. However, you lack knowledge and are confused about which camera is best for construction site security and where to start your search. If this is the case, let’s delve into this article and learn more about choosing the right camera for a construction site.
Choosing the Right Camera for Your Construction Site
Selecting the right construction site camera while being blank about them could be daunting. If you are also struggling to choose a camera for your construction site, here are some tips that will come in handy.
Tumblr media
Determine the Type of Camera You Need
You will find different types of cameras in the market; you must choose as per your requirements. For instance, if you want to produce a time-lapse using the camera, a Fixed position would be best for that purpose. However, you should take a leap on PTZ (Pan-tilt-zoom) cameras for ultimate security and a dynamic view of the construction site.
Recording Quality of Camera
After deciding the camera type that suits your location, you must decide how much recording quality you want. As mentioned above, there are numerous camera types with different features. When it comes to quality, you can select from 480p, HD, or 4k. The more clarity you choose, the more secure your construction site be.
Must Choose Weather Resistant Camera
You might know that the construction site is more prone to damage due to adverse weather conditions than any other internal location. Therefore, choosing a rugged camera for a construction site is essential. Consider choosing IP66 rated camera that can endure any weather condition, including snowfalls, hot conditions, and heavy rains.
Tumblr media
Cloud Storage Option
Those days are gone when you only can see the data for 90 days; with the cloud storage option, you can store years of recording easily. Not only will it help you secure your construction site, but it will also help you showcase your abilities to construct a building efficiently. So, before you invest in any camera, check if it offers you cloud storage.
Working with a Renowned Brand
Besides seeing the features of the cameras, you must look at the brand’s reputation in the market. Otherwise, you may have to wait forever to fix the problems you get with your technical stuff. Also, leading brands like Mobile Video Guard tend to have excellent customer and 24*7 open lines.

My favorite parts from the Drinks With Johnny interview
Warning: I tried to write this as true to what he actually said in the video but our dear rambly Tobbe speaks in long sentences and doesn’t always follow a sentence structure that’s very clear in written form so if something’s unclear I’m sorry I tried my best to do some light editing to make it more readable! (but sometimes I just gave up because bruh)
(11:08) What is very important for me nowadays and I’ve been trying to do this for the most part, and to be clear I obviously look to the band first, but for me the crew is very much the extension of the band. Just overall I’m very very picky when it comes to people and attitudes amongst the band and the crew. So that we have a very sturdy, friendly, professional team for the most part. Obviously on a big tour like this, where our bus is like 40+ people and then we have two bands with us, of course amongst 50-60 people I can’t curate everyone. But I’m really really trying to get people who aren’t privy to bullying and screaming and being a fucking dick.
(13:30) It’s very important that since we’re spending so much time, not only with each other but also in solitude and away from homes and loved ones and all that, it’s important that everybody has to the best of their ability (some people want to be alone you know but) that everybody has a friend and that you try to keep track of everyone and try to get everyone to understand that if you have a problem, if you feel bad for any reason, even though it might feel unprofessional speaking about your home problems just air it rather than feeling like shit for six weeks and then quit. It’s better if you’re going through this really wild thing at home but that’s also like a typical thing on tour you know, someone is like, I’m not saying underperforming but, yeah someone is underperforming for three weeks and then all of a sudden goes on a raging alcoholic fucking nights and then all of a sudden one week later you get to know that that person is getting a divorce or is in the middle of a custody fight. It’s like why didn’t you just say that? Please! Come on! Tell us that!
(1:23:04) One thing that I find extreme gratitude and what I can find extreme balanced joy of experiencing is coming into the venue in the morning and seeing 40 people who are actually happy about being out working. They’re happy about doing what they’re good at. Because many of them are not good at a lot of the normal things that is on the menu of life but they’re really good carpenters of doing stage stuff, stage carpeting, they might be really good at teching lights. They’re really good at pyrotechnics and a lot of these things they couldn’t do for two years. And I love the fact that we’re out doing that and people feel a sense of purpose. This might sound like sO tHe fUcK wHaT but when that happens, when you feel that and you sort of feel that “Wow! We are really here today, everybody’s happy, content, you smell good food from the catering and it’s sunny outside and some people take turns to go out on the dock and just have a smoke (I know you’re not supposed to smoke so don’t but yeah). Stuff like that is something that I’ve been really you know with age also i think that I have moments like that where I occasionally stop from dreaming about something in the past or something that’s gonna happen in the future and I just stop and like “Wow. This is fucking phenomenal! And there’s no accidents today and everybody’s here today and the show’s gonna be great” and that is phenomenal. Then you get a text from your son or daughter or mom or your wife and it’s just like “Wow just now thing are really tranquil and cool.” And moments like that... That is joy. That is happiness.

Memories of 2020 - Initial asks and a small discussion
*cracks knuckles* Here we go.
If any of you have spent any amount of time today on any ARMY sns platform, I’m sure you’ve seen the mess which, as seasoned ARMY, I can tell you was the exact same mess we see...every single time. I can’t particularly say I’m surprised by any of it, especially when watching the entire process, as in the first clips hitting the TL and then the rest slowly following suit like a flood building steadily as the hours went by.
From anon: be ready for insecure vminies 😂
I’m pleased to report it wasn’t actually as bad as I expected, though now that I’m typing this I probably jinxed my own luck and the flood of asks will come soon enough, but maybe not. I’m holding on to the latter.
Based on the cycle in which these things happen every time, as in that the first clips that hit the ARMY spaces are Xkook ones, followed by vmin and other ships, and lastly more OT7 content, I expected our asks to go haywire after that clip, you know which one I mean. But we’ve only gotten two (?) about it, kind of, so I guess most people understood that it was just for laughs and nothing serious that anyone would have to get insecure over.
From anon: Sigh. This is my first memories of bts as army and i'm already tired of how all of twitter seems to be about 1 j*/k*ok moment now. There were so many j*n/kook m*ments and hugs and a sweet h*pe/k*ok backhug moment and a good number of vmin moments including slow dancing so why is the focus always on that one ship?
Here’s the thing, maybe my TLs are just well curated, I don’t know, but on mine no one really focused on that moment? Even non-shipper OT7s just briefly had a chuckle and then moved along to other things, awww’ed at vmin moments, there was lots and lots of talk about J*nk*ok being super cute and there being so much content when it comes to their interactions, there was a lot of chatter about basically every duo and OT7 moment. I know ship specific spaces went nuts, Xkookers butting heads like their lives depend on it, but outside of them?
“All of twt” is an exaggeration and I know, believe me I do, that Xkookers have the ability to make it seem like everyone just cares about their moments because they themselves (the shippers) are loud and seemingly everywhere, but when you look past them, that isn’t the case. Shippers have a tendency to generalize, especially those who follow a lot of their fellow shippers, but when you step outside of shipper spaces, things look very differently.
Like anon said, though I’d like to preface this by saying that I haven’t seen the entirety of Memories of 2020 so I can only go by what I have seen though I’d say I’ve seen nearly everything that was posted on twt or at least as much as I could find (including Xkook things), there were a lot, and I mean a lot, of amazing moments between basically all the members, regardless of who your favorite duo might be, I’m sure there was something for you there. Even those who are supposedly a rarity. And even as vminnies, this time around we had a feast with so many amazing vmin moments, some funny ones, some random ones, some super cute ones, whatever you want, there is something there for you to find. And the same can be said about so many other duos, we even got Yoongi and Hobi FaceTiming each other, and Yoongi saying they look like a couple while looking at the pictures Hobi chose for the coffee truck he sent to Yoongi’s Daechwita MV filming set.
Tumblr media
There’s one discussion I’d like to get out of the way below the cut, but after that I will have another post very, very soon in which I want us to just have some fun and look at vmin, namjin and the other moments because there is just so much to find. And this is just day one of people having the DVDs, these discussion will continue for a while because, like I mentioned before, Memories are a treasure trove for OT7 content and fun stuff, and there’s more than eleven hours worth of it to be watched, discovered and discussed.
But, okay, let’s get into that moment since anons wanted to talk about it and know my thoughts on it, so let’s do just that. And yes, other anon from a while ago, I remember you once mentioning how I shouldn’t talk about other ships and shouldn’t “debunk” them and their moments, though I’d hardly call this debunking, but as I said many times since our first post, I’m ARMY before I am a vminnie and namjinist, and our blog is called thoughts on Bangtan and, as far as I’m aware, both JK and Jimin are part of Bangtan, so I don’t see a reason why I can’t show my perspective on it and also voice my grievances with shippers when it comes to that moment. And, before anyone comes into our asks to yell at me for being toxic/problematic or only doing this to make my ship look better or whatever, no, that isn’t the point, like at all.
“Debunking” moments makes literally no difference whatsoever in the grand scheme of things and doesn’t affect reality, all I am doing is having a chat just like everyone else. I’m not even asking you to agree with me, you’re more than welcome not to, I can’t and won’t stop you. Also, just so you know, my initial reaction was just to laugh amused by it, no hard feelings, so I’m not the bad guy.
That being said...the Xkook moment.
Here’s the thing, when it first surfaced many hours ago, the moment itself was cut down to show just the moment of Jimin leaning close to JK and JK leaning back and turning his head away so his cheek faced Jimin...and cut, some even cutting off the video before JK turned his head. That’s it. People, as in shippers, freaked out, and everyone else had a good laugh and moved along to other things, even vminnies were joking about it and everything. I saw none of my fellow vminnies getting angry or insecure about it. Then, as time went by, someone else posted that scene but this time also showing the things leading up to it, so putting it into context instead of removing it. With the context suddenly the whole thing looked and felt completely differently since moments prior Jimin was pretending to stab JK with the pointy end of his mic and then acted as though to check if he was d*ad, as in the end of the scene. Turns out it was just for giggles and not some grand romantic moment in a room full of people and a camera close to their faces.
By that time, of course, those who cared most about that moment had long decided what meaning this holds and didn’t care once context was shown. Gifs and art had already been created, the yelling was loud, and the fights between Xkookers were reaching levels of toxicity I hadn’t seen in a while, which was disgusting and fucked up the say the least. But, the thing is, I don’t think the moment itself was the issue. In context and as rational ARMY you know it was just Jimin playing around with JK as they usually do, things we’ve also seen other members do in similar (though not quite like this) fashion, and after eight years since debut and nine of knowing each other, this isn’t shocking or new in any way. No, the issue were Xkookers and the way they treated this moment, some even going as far as taking screenshots and editing them to make it seem like they were about to kiss, as in they changed the placements of their heads to fit their narrative, as well as others making gifs where they play the moment backwards (leaving out the part where JK leans his head away and to the side) and thus they created their own version of the moment which was different from what had actually happened.
That is my biggest issue with this whole thing. The blatant manipulation of moments to create narratives that don’t match reality, twisting them and using them in stupid pointless fights. But imagine vminnies were to do any of that, all hell would break loose and we’d be attacked without mercy because how dare, and yet they don’t follow their own “logic” and “rules”. It’s more than okay to find any and all moments cute, we all do, to make jokes and whatnot, but twisting context, manipulating it and basically creating your own version of it goes too far.
Take what we are given as what it is, instead of what you want it to be.
So, now that that’s done, please fellow vminnies and ARMYs, don’t be insecure or let people ruin your mood and fun over it. It’s not worth it. Instead let’s check out and have a talk about some of the fun vmin and OT7 moments we got, along with other ones, including my reply to another anon when it comes to namjin. Of course what I will mention in the post (HERE) is basically just the tip of the iceberg since tumblr has a limit on pictures and everything, so just know there is so much more still left to see than just that.
Before I’ll go, for those who still feel a little insecure/doubtful/whatever else, while I was working on this post and the other one, another anon sent in this well timed vmin ask:
From anon: I have to say this as a Vmin supporter. Whatever is going on with Vmin we can rest assure what they is special/untouchable. They graduated HS & college together, going for Bachelors together. Jimin-ah I like you the most. I want to live with my lovely Taehyung for the rest if my life. Their future is together, friends/soulmates or more they said it. I won’t tear down other members closeness (good for them) their bonds don’t erase Vmins. I’m just happy with the moments Vmin allow us to see.

I'm so sorry you're getting such rude anons, man. You're working so hard on this site for free, so everyone can enjoy such an obscure series, and for what? Seriously, you all need to get your heads out your asses.
Thank you.
I need everyone who visits this blog to understand that I am doing this completely for free, and of my own volition, because I love this series and I want there to be a good English database for it. The downloads and stuff? That's all extra. I didn't have to do all that. I could have kept this site purely informational and left it at that. But I did it because I wanted to.
I don't have the money to funnel into web hosting or production material auctions or hiring professional translators or anything like that. I am just one person who happens to know how to Google things in multiple languages with the help of Google Translate. The other folks on my website's About Us page are also offering their services for free. And no, I don't intend to start a patreon or anything in order to make all that happen, because one, my ability to find content is so sporadic that it wouldn't make sense to do it, and two, this is a side project for me. I do have a life outside of this. It is not an exciting one, but it is one that I cannot just dedicate all of my time 24/7 to finding and curating content for this incredibly niche series.
As much as I would love to give this fandom everything they ask for, because I do want this site to be the best it can be, some things I simply just can't give you guys because I don't have it!
I appreciate the enthusiasm in asking questions and wanting to make suggestions (as well as the occasional actual submission of content to help fill in gaps I have, which is the main purpose of this blog), but going forward I'm going to need you guys to be a little more reasonable.
If it's something that's not already a feature on the website, consider why that might be. Chances are, its either information I don't have, something that I'm in the process of adding (which will be stated somewhere either here or on the website itself), or, if it comes to things like downloads, something that simply isn't feasible to implement at this point in time.
Questions and suggestions are still welcome, but I ask that you first, consider the previous paragraph before you send that ask, and secondly (and most importantly), that you are polite. While I have done my best to try and be at least semi-professional on this blog, I am in fact a human being running this and do not appreciate being spoken rudely to.
I don't like having to make a post like this, nor did I expect to when I started this whole thing. However, this was not an easy website to build and it is not an easy website to run. If this were easy, then somebody else would have done it by now. And I need y'all to be cognizant of that fact, especially when interacting with me in the future.
Thank you.

I'm truly not trying to start discourse make you feel bad personally, I just wanted to check if you're alright with chengxian? One of the jc-lwj-wwx parallel posts you rebloggged was tagged by the op as chengxian and that makes me uncomfortable with interacting with it, but I haven't seen any of that on your blog and I really like it here, so I'm wanting to clarify for myself if I'm better off unfollowing on grounds of incompatible vibes (i.e. even if I didn't view them as siblings I wouldn't like them as a ship but I've heard the relationship is less familial in the novel and more typically martial sibling like so idk but yeah anyway. Hope you're having a nice day and this doesn't come across as offensive)
Oh! Well, anon, I'm gonna take a two-pronged approach here just to be clear for your needs and mine 😅
Firstly, I don't personally ship chengxian! I just really really love parallels and meta involving the three of those characters (and lxc too, they all mirror each other in super interesting ways). I'm all for curating our own experiences, so I will say that if you don't want to see romantic chengxian you ARE more than likely safe on this blog. This is because, while probably boring to many, I only ship wangxian with each other in my little monkey brain/heart. I am pretty set in stone and vanilla when it comes to my main ships in general (don't @ me abt the fact that I'm a smut writer U KNOW it's relatively vanilla 😂).
Secondly, I am wholeheartedly "alright" with chengxian!!! Anything anybody wants to ship and however they want to ship it is a-ok, regardless of if I personally like it/want to see it/am squicked by it or not. I am not judging anyone for anything their brain finds enjoyable, as long as it is not causing harm, which to be clear, internet shipping of fictional characters cannot do as long as it is all tagged correctly in good faith etc.
It's highly possible I will reblog lots of things that were maybe intended to be posts suggesting ships I don't like/read/whatever, but if I don't see the post that way myself I won't clock it or care! If I like it and get something from it then I'm gonna be reblogging it without knowledge of or regard for op's intentions. Not sure if that's in bad taste or something these days but I am simply not checking op's tags for fandom stuff unless I happen to see them directly.
Also, just to tack on, I want to assure everyone that unfollowing/blocking people on the internet is a 100% great tool for any reason you might want to use it. Unfollow me if you need to!! Unfollow anyone!!! Make your internet experience as calm and happy for your soul as you can, it's one of the few areas of life in which we have that ability, so definitely take advantage of it!!
(Choosing not to address the fact that martial siblings are not actual siblings because it does seem that anon gets it, and it seems irrelevant here, and MANY people with far better knowledge of the culture of martial siblings have tackled the subject. If anybody asks for links I can try to dig some up, but I think search engines would also yield results?)
