who do you think is an underrated panel show guest? like someone who doesn’t appear on them very often but should

ohh fun question... y'know the thing about panel shows these days is they're sooo so so comedian-centric and really a lot of the same people again and again — which i'm not complaining about! i think they're the funniest people in the room and understand the dynamic of a panel show better than anyone else 99% of the time! but when it comes to people i find underrated in the most exciting way it's usually the semi-rare non-comedian who just...gets it. like, back in the day it was people like john barrowman, martin freeman, josh groban, mark ronson, chris o'dowd, christopher biggins, professor green, a couple of the spice girls (they actually run in comedian circles, interestingly)... they just fit into these shows and dynamics so well!

most of the people who have really surprised me in this regard in the last 5 or so years (bc i don't wanna reach back to, like, 2012 for this hahaha) have been on celeb juice or something like graham norton, the last leg, etc. for example, i had no idea will mellor could really hang, take jokes, dish out jokes, and do physical comedy until i saw him on juice. i think that kind of discovery is so fun!

100000% the uk drag girls (the viv being the one we see the most, love her to death and GET HER ON TM!!) NEED to be on more panel shows, jordan north (and get william hanson on SOMETHING this MINUTE), shirley ballas, ronan keating is actually a laugh, a lot of the reality show people (MIC, TOWIE, etc) who do what they do because they don't take themselves too seriously really do Get The Vibe (this is how we got rylan hellooooo), maggie aderin-pocock is an angel, ore oduba, jordan stephens, judge rinder hmm

comedians-wise (ik the drag girls often are comedians, but otherwise), people we've seen a little bit who we should be seeing more of in the name of comedy — alasdair beckett-king, kiri pritchard-mclean, paul foot, larry dean (whoever has the ‘X days since panelshowsource has mention larry dean’ sorry but you gotta reset), glenn moore, amy gledhill, morgana robinson

This is something that's meant to appeal to myself, @wrenrix, and maybe like two other people but hey!

Riz: Josh Widdicombe, season 1. High energy and also short.

Gorgug: Richard Osman, season 2. Bigger than everyone else, surprisingly good at lateral thinking, and overall very effective.

Kristen: Fern Brady, season 14. Cheerful, eager to be there, and also says completely mad things from time to time.

Fig: Morgana Robinson, season 12. Good singing voice (by Taskmaster standards), charming, absolutely willing to go all out to harm Alex if needed.

Adaine: Jo Brand, season 9. Can't be bothered with any tasks that don't strike her interest, but an actual god at Horse or Laminator.

Fabian: Iain Stirling, season 8. Loud and bragging and maybe regretting that after the fact some, and also definitely falls on his face when he most shows off. (See getting run over by the Hangvan twice.)

Ragh: John Kerns, season 14. Less for the sad parts, and more for the shockingly strong performances at anything physical.

Aelwyn: Rhod Gilbert, season 7. Less worried about winning and losing than about being funny and mean to Alex and Greg, and also a borderline maniacal level of disregard for dignity, health and safety, and rules.

Jawbone: Bob Mortimer, season 5. I thought about Mel for Jawbone, but decided the completely impossible stories overrode the niceness factor.

Gilear: Joe Wilkinson, season 2. This yogurt tastes like potatoes in a golf hole.

Eve Hemlock Robinson-Hephaestus

Eve Hemlock, otherwise known as Morgana Hemlock, is a Demonic Trickster from a family of monster hunters in Maine.

The Demonic Trickster race belongs to my wife @bellsartworks , who also has Eves husband Peter on her page

The Hemlocks have lived in the Maine area off grid somewhere near the coast close to Quebec Canada since the 40's.

The Hemlocks devoted their lives to killing monsters, making Maine one of the only few monster-free states. However, to achieve this they experimented with having half monster children to help take doen other monsters.

The Hemlocks all lived under one roof and were all given nicknames from the Aurthurian legends, with Eve earning the name Morgana due to her skills with both magic and craftmanship of weapons. Merlin, who was the head of the house, ran the Hemlock clan with an iron fist and was not against using his hellhound Dog against family members that stepped out of line.

Eve and 5 of her cousins eventually ran away to California where they set up their new lives, with Eve becoming a local artisan who sells soaps and other frangrances at local farmers markets, as well as little metal figurines she'd sell as minis to comic shops. She eventually met her future husband Peter at one of these farmer markets, and hasnt seen Merlin since.

She loves blackberries and honeysuckle, enough to the pount where she smells of both plants, as well as honey, spearfishing, bees, forging, and reading about monster history.

greg definitely has significant favouritism happening which i mostly think is funny because it's a show with virtually no stakes but there was a pattern at least in the earlier seasons of him underscoring non-white contestants that i found really unpleasant. i'm on season 13 right now and some of my fav contestants so far have been: mawaan rizwan, aisling bea, morgana robinson, guz khan, nish kumar, rhod gilbert, mike wozniak, daisy may cooper, sarah kendall.

It was going well for Estella there, But 1 day as she was, In the barrennesses office, she found a Peculiar ring that used to belong to her adoptive mother. Seeing the baroness with the ring, she felt annoyed and angry and decided to pull a heist to get it back with the help of her friends Of course. The baroness.

 Was holding a black & white party the day of the heist, and Estella decided to bring back her old friend cruella to party crush. As the baroness was making a toast to Herself.

In mysterious, figure walked into the party wearing a white cape cloak while pulling a glass of Alcohol-free champagne From the bottom of a champagne tower collapsing all the other glasses and making a scene for herself, then pulling out a match. She burnt her cloak on top And revealed a beautiful red dress with her stunning black & white hair showing. After humiliating Security a bit, She and the baroness sat down to have a little chat with each other, And while they were chatting, they were served dinner, only to find that it was a bunch of Rats on their platter.

Freaking out the Baroness, Using this opportunity, cruella grabbed, The ring, but unfortunately it fell into one of the Baronesses Pet Dalmatian's mouth as he accidentally swallowed it. As cruella gave a sign of disappointment, she heard a familiar sound, of the baroness blowing a whistle, instantly she was brought back to the night of her adoptive mother's death, where that same whistle was blown and A bunch of dalmatians pushed her adoptive mother off a cliff. Putting all the puzzle pieces together, She figured out that the baroness was the one who killed her adoptive mother, And after that day she made it her life's mission to ruin the baroness by upstaging her In the world of fashion and embarrassing her at every point, even going so far as to destroying all her clothes and showing off a jacket, she made from leather and let's just say what once were the baroness's pets. While this feud with cruella and the baroness was going on, Cruella Got an invitation to go to the school of good and evil, Where she was selected to attend Morgana Academy For her evil deeds. Cruella at first was a bit skeptical, but found the idea Intriguing, and with some encouragement from her brothers and tourists in Jasper, she finally decided to go, fully embracing her new side as not Estella, but Cruella Deville.

This episode can be triggering for a number of reasons, the most prominent being Jorg. Not at any point in the actual script does he v*, but lots of g*ing and r*tching that might trigger some.

[1:50-2:09] Jorg begins coughing up phlegm – which sounds a bit like he’s g*ing. He holds it in his mouth and moves to the window to spit it out. It flies back into his face and he curses loudly. This is explicitly stated as phlegm in the scripts (if that’s something that might help) but is still very gross and does look somewhat like s*.

He makes similar g*ing/coughing sounds at [14:13-14:17]

[24:43-24:48] An insanely hectic scene. As Hugo holds the shoebox under Jorg, he g*s, he holds his hand over his mouth throughout the sequence but does not v*.

There is a character with alcoholism in this episode, she gets quite drunk but not at any point does she v*.

[23:20] Nana starts to choke, in case that is triggering for anyone! I wouldn’t say it’s too intense and she does not die. The scene is hysterical and I recommend sitting through it.

[18:00-18:30] When Nina drops to the floor and crawls towards the waste-basket, she sticks her fingers down her throat in an attempt to make herself v*, which she does. I found it quite realistic and graphic so I suggest skipping it if you’re particularly sensitive.

[27:40-27:10] When Squires puts the meat into his mouth, he g*s, and continues to do so as he eats. He does not v*, and the audio is quite subtle. I’d suggest biting the bullet on this one as it’s quite an important scene, and the audio is relatively tame. But of course, it’s not a problem if you can’t.

The characters in the episode ingest a plethora of supposed drugs, no one v*s as a result.

[6:20-6:30] After talking to Scaramouche, Hortensia tells him rather urgently that she needs to use the bathroom, and sprints to the door behind. You hear sounds of her v*ing, but do not see it. In my opinion the sounds are quite pantomimic – suited to the commedia dell'arte theme of the episode. But still! It may trigger some.

S06E02 NOT SAFE [AUDIO]

[4:23-4:35] After Simon tells him some rather upsetting news, Spencer g*s and runs towards the bathroom. He closes the door slightly behind him and v*s. You see him lean over but, as I said, his face is obstructed by the door. It’s over once he’s walking towards the kitchen.

At [4:45] Spencer also spits some water into the sink.

S06E05 NOT SAFE [AUDIO, VISUAL] (SPOILER)

At about [16:18] a sort of distorted choking/g*ing noise is heard off screen, I’m quite sensitive to choking so this was a bit triggering for me. At [16:41] a child choking in a chair grabs hold of Urban and begins to grapple with him, still g*ing. The actual v* isn’t until about [16:55], when the child v*s an orange substance onto Urban’s face. It’s over by [16:59] when he awakes.

The scene is deliberately meant to be scary so I recommend skipping it if you’re at all sensitive. All in all, I’d suggest fast-forwarding [16:40-16:59].

Also at about [9:20-9:48] Webster has a coughing fit, it sounds slightly triggering so be wary.

S06E06 NOT SAFE [AUDIO]

[17:38-17:46] Oliver v*s into the nearby waste basket, his back is turned so you can’t see anything. It’s also very easy to see coming as he mentions not feeling very well a little while earlier, and you can see him become visibly uncomfortable leading up to the moment.

Brian also becomes increasingly and visibly drunk throughout the episode but does not v*.

S07E01 SAFE-ISH* (SPOILER)

[17:45-27:56] When the Ferryman offers his hand to Laurence, he g*s slightly and produces a coin from his mouth. It’s more like he’s coughing it up as opposed to v*ing but some may find it slightly triggering.

One of my favourite episodes!

[7:22-7:31] Alan brings a cup of tea to his mouth to drink. He furrows his brow as it reaches his lip and spits multiple tadpoles from his mouth back into the cup. No g*ing or v* but worth the mention.

Throughout the episode, Harry and Edward are tortured quite violently. Edward takes the brunt of it, and occasionally makes faces that may have some worried – rest assured no one v*s.

[13:25-13:35] [13:48-13:54] When Sue emerges from the bathroom, she hyperventilates for a moment and then says that she thinks she might be s*. She runs past Gareth and Johnny then doubles over the kitchen sink. Gareth and Johnny exchange some dialogue until Johnny produces a screw [13:48], we then start to hear Sue again off-screen g*ing profusely. It’s over by [13:54] and she does not v*.

SOME EXTRA THINGS

I recommend if you’re a fan of the show that you should listen to the commentaries (both the homebrew and official DVD selection), I will – however – say, that in the last episode of the Season 2 commentary (the episode that plays alongside Séance Time), Reece and Steve perform a sort of ‘mini episode’ within the commentary. I will not spoil it but at [22:30-22:40, 26-26:20 and 24:50-25:20] Steve makes some rather visceral g* and v*ing noises, which I found quite uncomfortable to listen to – so be wary!

In some instances – in other commentaries – they mention v* alongside scenes that I’ve already marked as triggering so, if you go by them, you should be fine. There are also some mentions in podcast episodes – namely ‘How do you Plead’ – but they’re not too triggering.  I also believe in the ‘La Couchette’ commentary they also mention Jack Whitehall v* due to cars*ness. But other than that, I totally suggest giving both the podcast and the commentaries a listen because they are both hysterical and very insightful.

What's your favourite series of taskmaster?

tremendous question. last year i rewatched every series* up to 13 for the express purpose of working this out. the problem became that i love a lot of them very intensely, and it made it very difficult to separate some series out. so instead: tiers!

ABSOLUTE GOD TIER: series 13 (bridget christie cannot walk), series 2 (katherine ryan crying about sport), series 5 (rosalind's a fucking nightmare!)

So Taskmaster fans will know the absolutely stunning Morgana Robinson but did you know that she also is an amazing impressionist and that the lady in the still from this video, is also Morgana? Morgana also doesn't like appearing as herself on shows, so the fact that she does and isn't hiding behind impressions says how comfortable she was on Taskmaster.

She does a lot of great impressions. She does Natalie Cassidy, who is an actress in the UK, and she sort of blends a little Natalie with one of the famous characters Natalie plays and it's just delightful (and incase you think it seems mean, Natalie is a fan).

hey anon, yeah, no he wasn't. while all the "evidence" is anecdotal, i think it's fair to assume that he wasn't given, well, everything surrounding Zeppelin.

reference in pamela des barres' book to her friend mickey who was his "girlfriend"

that art gallery in copenhagen (?) where he was "baking on" the sister-in-law of the gallery owner

a lisa robinson article (i believe) that refers to him having an arm around "a friend" (shut up)

he was certainly the most covert about any sort of infidelity and covered his tracks pretty well by staying out of the limelight. i also have a theory that he tended toward more one-off affairs rather than repeat customers. but this is all just speculation.

that being said, whatever disloyalty when on, he and his wife are still together all these years. that counts for something. i like to imagine that mo had her own fun too 🥲

Ranking Every Taskmaster Contestant*

Just a list I’ve worked on for the last few years in my drafts and never published, because why would anyone bother to do this without write-ups or statistics, without ever being asked to do it in the first place? But, it’s time to just get it out there.

Basically I judged this on: were they fun to watch, did they bring a character to the show I enjoyed, did they seem to enjoy it themselves, or did they seem to care at all? 

I noticed a few patterns. My least favorite seem to be the women who showed up and didn’t really have any familiarity with the show or any interest in competing. Just up from there is a grouping of hapless middle-aged men who I felt weird watching as they failed. 

On the other hand, if they were too competitive, I didn’t appreciate that, either. I feel bad putting Ed Gamble down at #20—I listen to him on two podcasts, but he was way too aggressively competitive in Taskmaster. It’s also part of why Iain Sterling, who otherwise would’ve had a higher spot on the list just by nature of being Scottish, but he really made an ass of himself throughout Series 8. 

Bias is probably the reason my #1 is my #1. A major theme of many of my top favorites seems to be that they are lanky, smart-dumbass types. 

I know there are several people will disagree with me on. Would love to hear what y’all think!

Who would you like to see on BFQOTY that has never made an appearance before?

okay i always take these kinds of asks too seriously but pls bare with me!!

when it comes to panel shows there is a spectrum of preparation: on the far left is a show like mock the week, where literally everything apart from a very smol amount of relevant banter is pre-prepared by the panel (they're given the news stories & scenes we'd like to see ahead of time, the standup categories are chosen around their pre-written bits, and so on); and on the other end of that spectrum is a show like big fat quiz, where the only thing you really prepare is potentially a team name. so — to answer this question i'm thinking about people who are very willing and very good at joining in, people who will comfortably banter with jimmy, people who don't always wait their turn to speak (which works better on a show like, say, 8 out of 10 cats). obviously jimmy throws to each team whilst the teams' answers are being revealed, but for the show to really succeed you need a lot more chat and goofing around and camaraderie than that — so who are some of these confident, friendly, funny people?

well let's get this out of the way we need victoria on bfq right? it helps a lot she's irl pals with jimmy so their dynamic is very comfy and she would probably have so much to say about the news or even admonishing the amount of tiktok-related questions LMAO it's great to imagine her with david but also what about team victoria and lee mack??
