Zuko & Hanahaki
Tumblr media
Hanahaki: a disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from unrequited love.
There you sat. Adorned in apple red robes, carefully feeding and playing with the turtle ducks. Zuko stood concealed by the shadows of his opulent home and continued watching you. Continued watching the girl he'd first became infatuated with all those years ago before his scar. Before his banishment. And now that he was back and the new Fire Lord, you two were both able to rekindle your friendship.
Friendship. Zuko hated the word, especially when you used it. Because being back home and spending time with you once again, and not having his banishment or father or the Avatar consume his thoughts, he suddenly realised how deeply he felt for you.
Your laugh suddenly filled the air like sweet perfume, pulling Zuko's lips into a smile. Something got caught in his throat, and he figured it was another symptom of being in love. But his brows furrowed once he realised something was really stuck in his throat. He let out a small cough, and watched three pink petals from his mouth float down to the ground. He looked down in disbelief and horror.
Tumblr media
"What do you mean you coughed up petals?"
"I don't know how else to put it Aang. I just, they came out of my mouth. I coughed them up!"
The hum of a simple tune caught Zuko's attention. Swinging his head in the direction it was coming from he watched as you walked past, accompanied by others. Aang and Katara followed his eyes to see you.
"Hi y/n!" They both called out, and you turned to wave back before you caught sight of Zuko. "Hi Zuko." You said warmly.
He awkwardly waved back and you continued down the path through the gardens with your peers. Another cough became lodged at the back of his throat and he couldn't help but let it out. Hands clamped over his mouth, Zuko coughed a little harder than before, and he kept his hands there, afraid to look. Aang and Katara simply stared back at him with a frown.
"Zuko, did you cough up flowers again?"
Zuko shook his head.
Unconvinced, Katara folded her arms. "Zuko."
He pulled his hands away, revealing the bundle of petals in the palm of his hands.
"Oh Zuko, you know what this is? You're sick with Hanahaki." Katara exclaimed.
"I think I heard Gyatso mention it once...I didn't think he was being serious though." Aang responded, scratching his head.
"Well, what is it and how do I get rid of it?" Zuko snapped, throwing the petals out of the window.
"It's a lovelorn disease. You're sick with flower petals because y/n isn't returning the love you feel for her!"
Zuko shook it off, stating it was the craziest thing he'd ever heard and declared he had Firelord duties to attend to. So with a giggle to themselves, Katara and Aang let Zuko be.
Tumblr media
It only got worse. And soon, Zuko found that he had to distance himself from you so that you wouldn't find out. There were times when Zuko, the gaang and yourself would all spend time together and Zuko could feel the stir in his chest. The odd sensation in his throat and he'd quickly hurry away.
"Ha! He's coughing up those petals again-"
Katara swiftly elbowed Sokka to shut him up.
"Ow.." Sokka said, rubbing his side.
But you were too focused on Zuko's figure becoming smaller and smaller as he headed down the hall. Curiosity and concern itched at the back of your brain. Why was Zuko acting as though he couldn't stand to be around you anymore. What had changed? What did you do?
Aang came up beside you, watching on with you as Zuko disappeared around the corner. "Maybe you should talk to him."
Tumblr media
Of course you could imagine Zuko's dread when one of his officials and trusted advisors interrupted his quick escape. He quickly slipped his hands under the sleeves of his robe, holding onto the petals in his fist. And as they spoke to him, you can imagine his frustration when they told Zuko that he ought to organise an event at the palace in honour of him slowly bringing peace between the nations.
So the throne room was filled with generals and lady's dressed in their most expensive clothes, along with music and servants serving the most exquisite meals. Everyone was having a splendid time.
Zuko, however, was a mess. He had anticipated your arrival the entire night, but he was also worried about seeing you, given his odd disease. And so when you finally walked through those doors you instantly stole the breath from his lungs. Crimson silk robe draped over your body. A beautiful golden headpiece with red petals in your hair.
Petals. Zuko scoffed at the irony. You were already scanning the crowd for Zuko, until your eyes locked onto each other. His dark hair was up, complimented by the Firelord headpiece. He looked so handsome, so sweet as he stared back at you. That was until he quickly averted his gaze and hurried away, and that heavy feeling was back in your chest.
Zuko could barely contain it now. As he walked out to the pond where the turtle ducks lied asleep and close to their mother, handfuls of petals kept escaping him, leaving a trail behind as he coughed.
And coughed, and coughed, and coughed.
He cursed his stupid situation. This stupid disease. These stupid petals. Arms crossed, he glared out at the pond before footsteps amongst the grass caught his attention.
"Zuko?"
It was you. He half turned to see you glancing down at the cherry blossom trail on the ground. Then, with a glint of confusion passing through your eyes, you looked back at him. Zuko wanted to crawl into a hole. He wanted to crawl into the smallest hole he could find and hide in there forever.
"Zuko, what is this?"
He instinctively turned from you. "Nothing." He said, grimacing at his harsh tone.
"It's not nothing..." You said, coming closer until you were by his side. Zuko's body tensed with you being so close to him. So close, yet so far away.
"Zuko, look at me." You held onto the sleeve of his robe and turned him to face you. Shame and embarrassment quickly flooded his expression as he struggled to look you in the eye.
"I said it's nothing. I swear."
"No..." You shook your head, your heart heavy in your chest as the realisation hit you. "The gaang were telling me about this. Just the other day. Hanahaki disease. I didn't realise you had it."
Zuko scowled. Of course they couldn't keep this to themselves and felt the need to give you hints. He shook his head and turned his body away from you again.
"There's someone? A girl that isn't returning your affections?"
Zuko was silent. You let out a sad sigh, wondering who he had such fervent feelings for.
"And she hasn't noticed that you like her? What a stupid girl." You said, arms crossed over your dress.
Zuko turned to you and the words fell from his lips before he could realise what it was he was saying. "Don't call yourself stupid."
Stunned. Both of you were stunned as you stared at each other.
"Me?" You breathed.
Zuko hesitantly grabbed your hand. "Well, who else? It's only ever been you."
But you were too surprised to respond. Both surprised and ecstatic.
"You got Hanahaki because of me?" You asked, a slight smile creeping onto your face.
Zuko bashfully rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I guess."
Then, you did something you thought you'd never do. Still holding onto his hand, you leant in and gave him a quick, tender kiss on his lips. And in that moment, Zuko had never felt more at peace and embarrassingly enough, completely obsessed with you. Only meaning it to be quick because your shyness was getting the better of you, you were about to pull back until Zuko went back in for more. His kiss deep and passionate. Both of your hearts soared, and now nothing else mattered except for you and the relationship that was beginning to blossom.
Your kisses finally came to a stop, and your arms gently wrapped around his neck, your head resting on top of his shoulder. The thrumming in Zuko's chest was so intense he was afraid you would be able to feel it. Still, Zuko did what he'd been wanting to do for so long. He wrapped his arms around your waist and buried his face in your hair, eager to never let you go.
You smiled to yourself as a soft giggle fell from your lips. "You taste like cherry blossoms."
Zuko gave a breathy laugh in return.

A marriage for peace and political
zuko x water tibe reader x male mai
Tumblr media
This is story had been published on my wattpad, and I decide to bring it over here.
The war of the nations had been going on for 100 years and the fire nation kept on gaining ground and power, all over all the other nations. There had been a time of peace that came in the war and that peace was made through a political marriage or arrange marriage. That marriage was your marriage the second daughter of Hakoda of the southern watertribe you had been given away in marriage. As you were not just marrying the fire lord son, but also another Nobel man that is an ambassador. All the other nations and everyone thought this will be for the best as no wanted anymore war to happen.
Y/n " dad"
Hakoda " listen I know you must hate this idea but it need to be done"
Y/n "......"
Hakoda " I can't send your brother or sister they are to much of value and importance to all of us ... they are part of avater team we can't lose them"
Y/n " i know that dad but have you heard about the stories of the fire lord he cruel and scary man ..."
Hakoda " yes I have heard them y/n but sacrifices have to be made and this is one of them you are one of them"
Y/n " please father o will do anything for my people but I'm scared"
Hakoda " think about your people think about all the all other nations and all innocent lives that will be lost of you don't do this .... You can't be selfish"
Y/n "  father ..."
Hakoda " leave now I need to speak with my council and elders Wes most think for battle with three other nations, a war will come and war " you wish to say something else but your father had you escorted away from his office once words got to your siblings and their friends it didn't get better.
Katara " please y/n we need this war to end we can't have aang go he not ready he hasn't master fire yet"
Y/n " I'm just overwhelmed and scared that all this major decisions"
Sokka " don't you think we all feel that you haven't been doing anything but stay here and healing, while the rest of us have been risking it all"
Toph " I can sense many emotions right now"
Sokka " if we don't have an answer by the end of week the war the fire lord wish for answers"
Y/n " I ...."
Aang " y/n I make a promises as an avatar and air bender if anything happen I will come help you, as you have my oath as avatar and all those that came before me"
Y/n " I just need some time alone"
Katara " fine go while we stay here and think about a back up plan" you could feel you were not welcome so you had soon taken your leave right away. As you were walking you had been getting cold shoulder from many people as they were all in fear.
Gran gran " my dear"
Y/n " hey gran gran"
Gran " I came to see you I have heard the news"
Y/n " I want to say yes for my people and everyone else but I'm scared"
gran gran " it okay to be scared my dear whatever decision you make it will always love you and be with you in personal and spirt" you had hugged your grandmother as your cried, you had made your decision that night.
Y/n " father I have made my decision"
Hakoda " what have you decided my father"
Y/n " I will take the marriage for safety for my family and everyone" everyone was happy about the news a hawk had been sent, and I'm days a fire nation ship had come with your future husbands.
Iroh " lady y/n I will love to present my nephew prince Zuko and mister mao"
Y/n " hello it good to meet you both and I hope our lives together will be good"
Mao " hello it good to meet you"
Zuko " yes what you have done is honor and we hope to show you were are not that bad" this marriage will not be bad after all as you had thought, as the others around were either good and bad. Maybe you should give your future husband a chance and see their true selves. Celebrations had been held in your tribe you had tried to speak with your sibling and friends but they were with everyone else. You had been given the opportunity to get to know some of future family better. That next day you had left your home.
Y/n " take care everyone I hope to see you soon"
Katara " we will meet again"
Y/n " yes and now we have peace life will need to be rebuild"
Fire nation solider " lady y/n we are rests to leave"
Y/n " coming goodbye everyone and please take care all of you" you soon got onto the fire nation ship, looking down to everyone and waving goodbye. You soon saw your home getting smaller and smaller as you head toward your new home.
Iroh " I know you have heard bad stories about the fire nation and my family, and I don't blame you for being scared but we are all not that bad ... my nephew and mao might seem a bit scary but he a good young men and I have raised taught and many other well to be good and not to, follow their parents path"'
Y/n " thank you iroh I'm happy to know I will have friends there for me I, hope I can be a good addition to the royal household and ambassador household as well"
Iroh " you will be amazing"
Zuko " uncle may I and Mao have some words with our wife"
Iroh " yes" Iroh soon left the young couple to talk together, knowing it was going to be a long trip home.
Mao " we know you fear what life will be like in the fire nation but we will not be living there"
Y/n " huh why you are royalty and noble born"
Zuko " yes but I made a deal with my dad will be living on ember land it will be good for us all, and we get to know each other and live the lives we want if that fine with you"
Y/n " I'm fine with that if can keep bending and healing, and keep some cultures I have"
Mao " yes it will be good as we all should keep what we love most close to our hearts" this marriage was not going to be bad after all, you had been able to get to know your husbands better and their created famiky good as well. Life is going to be hard away from the water tribe but you know you will adapt to your new life and home.

My Good Looking Boy - Part Two
warnings for series: angst, struggles with self worth and self esteem, issues with appearance, childhood trauma, and mentions of death and murder.
summary: taking place after the southern raiders, zuko and katara finally learn to understand each other a bit more and long held on to feelings come to the surface. the gaang go and watch the ember island play and chaos ensues with katara's feelings.
part one - part two - part three
Tumblr media
authors note: in part two here we're gonna start to explore katara's insecurities and how they have an effect on her. i tried to bring some uncle iroh wisdom because i believe there are a lot of lessons that iroh taught zuko that he maybe just didn't recognize later and this chapter has one of them. as always, let me know what you think and if there are any errors feel free to bring them up. enjoy!
word count: 1.9k
Not too much later, Katara and Zuko brought the now clean clothing and blankets back to camp with limited finds for meals today. The group was finally all awake with Toph and Aang working on earthbending exercises and Suki and Sokka chatting as Sokka sharpened his boomerang.
“You’re back! I missed you this morning.” Suki said fondly, wrapping Katara in a warm embrace.
“Yeah, you have housework to do?” Sokka joked making Toph snort as she gave a brief wave and good morning to Katara and Zuko. With a roll of her eyes Katara snapped,
“You think that’s all I’m good for? Don’t take me for granted or precious prince Zuko is gonna have to start doing everything, and trust me, you don't want that.” Zuko frowned, slightly embarrassed, but said nothing as he passed out the clothing to their rightful owners.
“Hey, maybe I didn’t know how to do laundry this morning, but I do now.” he mumbled, retreating into himself, but he didn’t snap back at her. Placing the basket down, Katara felt guilt pool in her gut and it made her feel sickly.
“I’m sorry, yes, thank you for your help Zuko.” He perked up, and a small smile made its way onto his face. Katara felt herself easing up and had a smile to match.
“So, I wanted to bring up that there’s a play in town nearby!” Sokka announced, getting everyone’s attention. “Maybe we could take a break from saving the world one of these days and watch it. It's about us you know.” He announced, wiggling his eyebrows. The group looked mostly enthused at the idea, but Toph took her turn to speak.
“That's all fine and dandy snoozles, but those plays tend to be way too long and I don’t feel like trekking all the way back here at midnight or having to find a new campsite.” The group seemed to actually agree with Toph on this one, especially the early risers not wanting to be out late and sacrifice precious hours of sleep.
“Oh come on guys, one night won’t kill ya.”
“Actually,” Zuko interjected quietly, “I might have a solution”.
His brilliant idea is how the group decided to pack everything they had on Appa and make their way to the royal family’s vacation home with Zuko’s guidance. Apparently, Zuko was aware of the small town they were near and it just so happened to be extra close to the abandoned royal family’s vacation home. It has been unused for quite some time now, so he was sure they wouldn’t be found or bothered. The breeze on Appa helped alleviate the summer heat and Katara actually found herself closing her eyes and relaxing again. That is, until a flying pair of pants found their way to her torso.
“What the-” “I need you to sew them.” Sokka said, point blank rubbing his boomerang between his fingers. Katara felt herself grind her teeth in frustration, but quickly reeled herself back in and breathed deep while she reached for her sewing kit.
“Sure, Sokka. No worries.” Speaking the latter under her breath with a roll of her eyes. Shifting the fabric around in her hand, she found the guilty hole and got to work. And while the breeze was still refreshing and the thought of an actual bed enticed her, the frustration never completely left. From across the bison, Zuko eyed her with concern. He knew she was frustrated, it was simply palpable when she was. Fighting an internal war with himself to offer his help again, he found himself shutting his mouth seeing her furrowed brow and focused expression. He would only frustrate her more, he decided. The saddle was quiet until Toph began with her questioning. She had practically interrogated him before asking about the home itself.
“So sparky, how come you didn’t tell us about this beautiful abandoned home earlier? You tryin to make us sleep on rocks for forever?”
“Uh no,” he stuttered, “I just honestly didn’t think about it until Sokka mentioned that town. I watched many plays at the theater growing up. With my mom I mean.” At the mention of his mother, the saddle fell quiet again. “But you guys will love it I’m sure. There’s enough space for us all to have our own rooms and a courtyard for bending practice. I’m sure the kitchen still works great too.” Everyone lightened up a bit after that and the group fell into friendly chatter.
“Hey Zuko!” Aang's voice rang from the front of Appa. “Is that it?” And everyone peeked over the saddle to make out a large, traditional fire national style home at the very top of a mountain on the island.
“Yeah, it is.” A nostalgic smile found its way to his face, and Katara paused her sewing long enough to admire it. Landing was calm enough, and Katara threw Sokka’s finished pants right back at him causing him to sputter and fumble for the fabric. Working together, Appa was unloaded and the group rushed inside to pick rooms. The first thing Katara noticed was how big the home was, and then how red. The walls, ceilings and floors were all red with ornate gold accents, though she knew the palace must be ten times what this was. Rooms were plentiful and so were their size, so she was in no rush seizing one like the others. Venturing upstairs, she walked to the end of the hallway until a room caught her eye. Strolling in, it was nothing special. Like all the other rooms it was red and very large, but a balcony at the opposite end of the room stole her attention. Walking out, she gripped the railing as a breeze ran through her. From this balcony, almost the entirety of the island and most of the sea could be seen. The water stretched on and on until the horizon kissed its now calm edge and the island was lush and green. Turning her head to the right, she was surprised to see Zuko hanging out of the only other balcony. He looked peaceful, far more serene than his normal awkward, brooding self. And she found herself staring at him more than the scenery, that unfamiliar fluttering feeling returning to her gut. Then his head turned, and she found the fluttering doubling in intensity and the heat of the sun growing uncomfortably hot. But he simply smiled back at her and she got to see a hint of the golden twinkle in his eyes once again before he retreated back into his chosen room.
The group watched in legitimate horror. This play was horrible. Filled with fallacies at best and harmful lies at worst, their story couldn’t have been depicted in a more inaccurate way. Everyone was either arguing in outrage or grumbling in a mopey silence the entire way back to the vacation house, with Toph’s boisterous laughter the only exception; and Katara couldn’t even blame them. Angered at the way she was portrayed was on the forefront of her mind for the past couple of hours. Is that really how people see me? Some hope obsessed fangirl?! She stomped her feet even harder, pushing herself to get to the vacation home quicker. Her thoughts and doubts were slowly getting to her, was she really that useless? All the housekeeping and motivational speeches, did that make her weak? She was spiraling and tears were forcing their way out of her eyes despite her desperation to hold them back. No, she would not be seen crying.
“Good night!” She called out as soon as she reached the house, most of the others too busy still arguing to notice. She couldn’t hold the tears back as she raced up the stairs and slammed the door to her chosen bedroom, allowing herself to collapse onto the floor in a heap. Folding her legs under she ripped off the golden bangles and rings, a foolish attempt to at least look somewhat presentable, and ripped the half top knot from her head. Tears were pouring down her face and sobs and hiccups made her break down quite loud, once again she was grateful for the privacy this room offered her knowing a campsite would be far less forgiving. She was so busy breaking down that the creak of the old wooden door was the only thing alarming her to another's presence. “Just go away, I’m fine!” she roared. The intruder paused, hesitant, but after a beat the door simply shut quietly and soft footsteps made their way to her before strong arms wrapped themselves around her. She assumed Aang would be the one to follow her, but this person was larger and the hug warmer. She tensed up at the initial contact, but quickly melted into the embrace as the smell of cumin, sandalwood, and smoke engulfed her senses.
“Shh, it's okay.” came Zuko’s raspy voice as he gently rocked her in his arms and she sobbed into his robes. The back and forth rocking calmed her, and the warmth finally made her feel at home, safe. When was the last time in all of this that she actually felt safe? She couldn’t remember. This went on until no tears came out and the hiccuping had come to a minimum. Resting his chin on her head, he spoke again very softly, “Do you want to talk about it?”. He felt the rustle of her shaking her head into his chest and he sighed. “You know, I always felt like I was kind of useless.” He began, and Katara stilled. She let out a forced sort of chuckle and croaked out,
“You’re a prince, how could you feel useless?”
“My life wasn’t always so royal Katara. I was the oldest, it was my responsibility to learn how to lead, to rule. But I was always left behind. I couldn’t firebend as well as my little sister, I could never make my own father happy, spirits, I couldn’t even make friends. I have felt like a total failure my whole life. And yet, when I took time to think about things, about what my purpose actually is and where I belong, I find that I succeed a lot more now. Maybe sometimes, we feel like we’re failing simply because we’re in the wrong place. Maybe, if we look at things from a different perspective and reconsider where we stand, we can find the spirits are letting us fail to learn. To learn where we truly belong and are needed.” The crying had stopped, only leaving the occasional sniffle. “I am not needed in the fire nation, not now. That’s why I always find disappointment and failure there. But here, here Aang needs me. It's my purpose to teach him firebending and now, maybe you need me so I can teach you. Just like my uncle taught me, that really, no one is useless, they’re just in the wrong place.” Zuko finally looked down and found himself staring into two round, gemlike eyes.
“How did you know?” she mumbled, barely a whisper.
“When we see others going through feelings we’ve already experienced, it’s very easy to spot.” She leaned into his arms a little more, and he tilted his head to rest his unscared cheek softly on her head.
“Thank you.”
“Of course, Katara. You can always talk to me.”

Asthma has been bad for me lately but it’s made me think of an ALTA headcannon 🤔
How would a firebender deal with having asthma? Especially if it’s triggered by smoke/heat?
I’m imagining either Zuko or Azula having this issue and how Ozai would treat them 🤔

omg i don't think you can even begin to imagine how fucking happy i was while reading this chapter. i love happy zukka, they are so !!!! together thank u thank u thank u thank uuuuuuu.
i became fucking insane reading this i swear, i love how you write, all of the characters you write about feel so human and real and full of details and feeling i love it. like, ara is such a complex character i really enjoy reading her. i enjoy reading anybody actually and like, i sometimes forget that some characters are ocs instead of actual alta charters. i love katara and suki being besties and the interactions between toph and sokka. AND ZUKKA AJS2(+#+$IDO!!!!!!2?2(2929. omg just omg. i love how caring they are for eachother and I'm so glad they are more open and touchy with eachother, i now feel like they can actually start to heal together.
OOOO talking again about Ara, i maintain my point about wanting her to have some friends and to heal because she deserves it!!! i support womans rights and woman's wrongs (jk, I'm still a bit angry at her for like everything she did to zuko and i want to se some kind of interaction between them but at the same time i feel bad for her). oh and jet, yey I'm glad he's not dead and he's starting to realize how much of an asshole he was!!!! i also really liked the piandao bit, because it made me remember how much time everyone (hopefully) has to heal, so please don't kill anyone sreeady ☺️☺️
i love love love love love love love love love your ocs and your characterization and your worldbuilding and your writing and how fuckin long your chapters are!!!(god when I saw the wordcount of this one i almost screamed of pure joy). i am your biggest fan sreeady i swear 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
anyways, i am excited about the next chapter, i really want to read the whole family dinner thing because that could either way go akward asf or low-key bad (of hopefully good but i don't want to get my hopes up). i am not really excited about azul, don't get me wrong, i love her, but I'm really scared about what will happen when she finally arrived and stuff happens.
as i always say, i love you, you are the best and i hope you have the best week/month/anything ever because you deserve it (you have no idea how long I been waiting for cuddling zukka 🙏🙏🙏)
MILKYYYYYYYY!!!!
I’m really thrilled you enjoyed the last chapter haha, because honestly sometimes I get so used to writing angsty drama that I get to a soft scene & im like hmmmmmmmmm do i even remember what that is?? Haha.
I AM SO THANKFUL FOR YOU OMG!!!! you seriously have no idea how many times I read this ask and smiled. I am so glad the cuddly soft zukka hit all the right spots haha, they are such dorks in love I just wanna smother them! (I won’t…. I promise haha)
You know you mention Ara and I gotta say I was expecting SO MUCH ARA HATE after last chapter but I was shocked people seem…. Idk…. More understanding? Idk I know she’s complicated & not a ‘good girl’ but when you explore her characters thoughts it really makes her that much more complex. Haha I’m not going to lie I’m not looking forward to her finding out about Shen though ahhh.
Speaking of dead fire benders you’re right it seems like pretty much DYING was the push Jet needed to confront his life choices. He was forced to look at his situation without voicing his excuses and blocking out his thoughts. Now hopefully he accepts those changes and grows form it but ehhhh jets my stubborn boy so we’ll see lol.
Milky milk milk I adore you. Thank you for this wonderful ask & sorry I used it to rant a but. I love reading your thoughts you are adorable :) I hope you enjoy the next chapter too lol. We get some fun moments (& Zuko imploding & exploding a bit haha)

Was Aang right to have such unshakable faith in the ability of people to change for the better that he didn't question that even Fire Lord Ozai had some kernel of goodness that could be brought out if only he could figure out how? Was Aang right to reason with Ozai in the finale or was Zuko right? Did Ozai have a viable chance of taking Aang on his offer(free will or no free will), or was Ozai's moral imagination so limited that even the thought of obeying Aang couldn't compute to Ozai?
It's not a question of being right. It's about not betraying the central messages of the show, which directly makes it abundantly clear that everyone is capable of good and evil, that no one is born bad, and that everyone deserves a chance to do the right thing.
ALTA isn't Game Of Thrones. If you want some nihilist nonsense about how some people just suck and can never change, ATLA is not the show for that message.

“what are you guys planning on wearing for your dinner dates?” toph asked.
“probably a simple white dress. jet said we aren’t going anywhere fancy,” you answered.
“probably a simple white dress. jet said we aren’t going anywhere fancy,” you answered.
“probably a simple white dress. jet said we aren’t going anywhere fancy,” you answered.
“I’m wearing my red body-con dress. it’s sokka’s favourite,” suki. smirked.
“i’m wearing a blue dress with ruffles and stuff,” katara said. “what about you, toph?”
“probably the same outfit i’m wearing now,” toph said. “speaking of that, do i look okay?”
you three turned to toph. she was joining you all for your group valentine’s day lunch. she actually did have a valentine’s date, zane. unbeknownst to you three until today, toph had actually been seeing zane for a month now. they didn’t make themselves an offical couple yet, but toph was planning to today, and she also had a feeling he was, too. he wasn’t joining the group for the lunch, though. toph knew it would be awkward, especially since he barley knew anyone.
for the lunch, toph was wearing a beige, long-sleeved top that was under an olive green, spaghetti-strapped dress. she was wearing her signature green bandana over the top of her had and knee-long beige socks with black, single strapped shoes. she usually dressed in jeans or sweatpants, but she decided to make herself look fancy for today.
you three smiled.
“more than okay! you look really pretty, toph,” katara said. “agreed. you look so good in green,” you smiled.
“well, i hope so. it’s the earth kingdom colour,” toph snorted.
“zane is going to love your outfit! lucky guy,” suki smirked.
toph smiled widely, “thanks guys. i’m sure you guys look pretty, too.”
for lunch, you, katara, and suki decided to be casual, much like toph’s.
katara wore a grey, long-sleeved shirt with a light blue skirt that ended a little above her knees. she put her hair in her signature half-up-half-down bun and paired the outfit with white shoes. suki had worn a dark green spaghetti-strapped top over a light green, short turtle neck. she paired it with a black jean skirt, a gold belt, and black heeled boots, and curled her shoulder-length hair.
you had opted out for a beige, long-sleeved dress that was ruffled at the skirt and had a v-neck. you had panty hoes on and black flats to match. you also wore gold jewellery today to match your dress. you felt strange taking off the locket zuko had given you since you wore it everyday, but you knew that you were dating now and if jet asked who gave you the necklace, he might get suspicious of zuko and you.
suki giggled and sauntered over to him. “just wait until tonight’s outfit.”
aang then went over to katara, taking her hand and kissing her cheek. “i love this outfit, baby. you look really good.”
“thank you, aang,” katara blushed heavily.
“thank you, aang,” katara blushed heavily.
“you look good, too, toph,” aang said to toph, smiling politely at her.
“thanks, twinkletoes,” toph smiled.
“is jet here, yet?” you asked.
“yeah, he’s downstairs talking to zuko i think,” sokka said.
“oh, dear. better go and make sure they don’t fight,” you joked, going out of your room and heading down the stairs.
you smiled immediately once you saw jet. he was wearing a white button-up shirt and black slacks. he was wearing a silver cross necklace and his silver rings. butterflies swarmed in your stomach as you watched him talk to zuko, running his fingers through his hair. his head tipping back, giving you the perfect view of his jawline and neck.
“oh, hey, y/n!” jet noticed you on the stairs. “wow, you look beautiful.”
you smiled at his his longing gaze. “thank you. you look really hot,” you giggled.
“only for you,” he smiled. he held his hand out, to which you took gracefully.
you went down the rest of the stairs, going over to where zuko was.
“hey, zuko! wow, you clean up nice. i bet mai will be happy,” you smiled.
“thanks. you look uh, good, too,” zuko smiled at you.
jet noticed your eye contact with him and pulled you closer, putting his hand protectively around you, making sure to not overstep any psychical boundary, but at the same time, making sure zuko knew that you’re with him now.
zuko noticed this and averted his gaze from you immediately. you didn’t notice it that much, too focused on zuko. once you noticed he had looked away, you looked to jet who was frowning at zuko.
“what’s wrong?” you asked.
jet’s head turned to you quickly, a smiling then shining on his face. “nothing, nothing. uh, zuko, when is mai coming?”
“should be soon. she denies that she takes a long time, but she really does. i should have told her to come earlier,” zuko chuckled awkwardly.
“well, i’m sure she’ll come soon. you’re driving with her separately anyways, she can come anytime,” you shrugged. “speaking of driving, toph, aang, katara! you guys ready?”
aang and katara rushed down the stairs, katara fixing her hair and aang tucking his shirt in between his pants. toph came down the stairs, her face twisted in disgust.
“i am so glad i am blind,” toph said.
“oh, were you guys- ugh, gross,” zuko cringed.
you scoffed, “agreed. you guys need a few minutes to get re-ready?”
“nope, we’re good,” aang smiled widely and slipped his hands into katara’s.
“where’s suki and sokka?” jet asked.
“where do you think?” you cocked your brow.
“yeah, they’re almost finished. aang and i didn’t actually do anything too serious,” katara snorted. “alright, ready to go guys?”
“yep,” you nodded. “see you later, zu.” “see ya,” he waved.
you five exited the house and went to aang’s car. you drove to the house of cheung, going in and getting seated.
“can i get you started on some drinks?” your waiter asked.
“sure, can i have diet coke?” you asked. “diet coke for me, too,” toph ordered.
“iced tea for me,” katara smiled. “iced tea for me, too,” aang said.
“root beer is good, thanks,” jet ordered.
“oh, and we have 4 others coming. can you also bring us 1 water, 2 diet cokes, and one hot green tea,” you said.
“oh! and some crab meat rangoon and unfired dough?” aang added.
“yeah, of course,” the waiter nodded.
“who’s the hot tea for?” jet asked. “zuko,” you answered, look at your menu.
“of course it’s him,” jet muttered. “what?” you asked.
“oh, nothing,” jet shrugged.
sokka, suki, zuko, and mai then entered. you turned your head to see mai’s glum expression.
“wow, she looks happy,” jet chuckled sarcastically. “she looks like that all the time,” katara said.
“hm,” jet hummed. you got up to greet them.
“took you two long enough,” you smirked at sokka and suki.
suki blushed and sokka shrugged.
“can’t ignore a boner,” he said.
you stuck out your tongue in disgust. “i wish you weren’t my brother.”
sokka smirked, “you know you love me.” “nope, not one bit,” you shook your head and sat back down.
“we ordered rangoon and unfired dough as apetisers. y/n ordered drinks for you all,” katara said.
“great, thanks,” suki smiled. “yeah, i ordered a water for you, mai. i hope that’s okay,” you said.
“yeah, it is. thanks,” she smiled lightly at you.
the four sat down. you found yourself in-between zuko and jet. your soon-to-be boyfriend and your boy-friend.
“what are you guys going to get?” aang asked.
“hm, mangolian beef for sure,” sokka said. “yeah, i might get that, too,” you said.
“i might get moo goo gai pan,” jet said. “yum. hey, we’re doing seperate checks, right?” you asked.
“duh,” katara said. “good. i know aang and sokka are gonna order so many egg tarts,” you chuckled.
“they’re good!” sokka frowned. “i never said they weren’t,” you disclaimed.
the waiter came back with your drinks and appetisers. he took your orders, going back to place them.
“hey, so are you okay with our dinner plans being at my place?” jet asked.
“oh, yeah! i’m excited to see your place,” you smiled and took a piece of crab rangoon.
“good, me too. i’m kinda sick of restaurant food. i want some home cooked food,” jet said.
“oh, me too. and you cook?” you asked. “yep,” jet smiled proudly.
“ooh, very nice. i got lucky,” you giggled. “more like i got lucky,” jet smiled.
“aren’t you two not even offical yet?” mai interjected.
you turned to her, pinching your brows together. “i mean…. we’re not, but we’ve only been on two dates, counting this one.”
“hm. zuko asked me to be his girlfriend when he confessed his liking for me,” mai smiled, putting her hand over zuko’s.
“well, i think it’s good to go on a few dates before making it offical. so you can test the waters,” jet said.
“yeah, i agree. i mean, if you asked me to be your girlfriend now, i wouldn’t be opposed,” you turned to jet with a smile.
“well, i’ve liked mai for a while, so i didn’t really have to go on dates before,” zuko said.
your head snapped to him, a more confused look on your face. “what? you never told me you have a crush on her.”
“i guess it never came up in conversation,” zuko shrugged.
you face fell and you turned your head away, looking at your lap.  it hurt you a lot that he never told you he liked mai. you guessed he was afraid you would make a big deal out of it. and sure, you would’ve, but you still would’ve supported him the same and felt honoured that he would've told you. it just wasn’t like him to hide something this big from you.
your phone vibrated against the chair. you looked up, meeting eyes with suki and katara. they gestured to your phone and you took it out to see a group chat message from katara in your, katara, suki and toph’s group chat.
katara: you look sad. you okay?
you smiled at her concern.
y/n: yeah, i’m good. thanks
suki: is it because zuko didn’t tell you about his crush?
y/n: yeah :/
toph: screw him. he’s stupid for not telling his best friend.
y/n: thanks guys :)
katara: of course! jet’s trying to look at your texts. heyyy jet:))
you chuckled and look to your right. jet was indeed looking over your phone.
“tell her i said hi,” jet smirked.
you giggled and nodded.
y/n: he said hi!
toph: we know. we can hear him.
you smiled widely and put your phone away, scooting your chair closer to jet. you put your hand on his under the table, intertwining your pinkies. jet’s ears turned pink and he put his head down to hide his growing smile.
you all finished a few pieces of the appetisers just as your actual lunch arrived. you all ate for a couple hours, conversing in your own little groups. as you all finished, aang, sokka, and toph wanted dessert.
“how are you guys not full,” you groaned.
“i dunno. we want egg tarts! we want egg tarts!” sokka chanted.
“alright, alright, when the waiter come back, we'll get you some. you shouldn’t be eating so much, save your appetite for dinner,” suki said.
“you’re gonna be my dinner, babe,” sokka winked at her.
“gross,” you stuck your tongue out.
“hey, i uh, wanted to ask you something,” jet tapped your shoulder. you looked to him, “what is it?”
“well, i know this is pretty informal, but i figured there’s no real right time to do this. i would like to celebrate valentine’s day as an offical couple, so y/n, would you do me the honour in being my girlfriend?” jet asked, holding out a silver locket necklace. “this is a little valentine’s day present i got you. suki said you really liked necklaces. she said you have like, 20 of them. i have another gift at my house for you, too.
you placed your hand on your heart, awing at him. “i love this so much, thank you. oh, it is so pretty.” you took the locker from him, opening it up to see it a picture of you and jet together in high school.
in the picture, you two were covered in soda from a science experiment. you two were lab partners and decided to do the mentos-in-soda bottle experiment. suki had snapped your picture together, thinking it was hilarious and cute.
“i remember this! i still have the shirt that’s stained,” you gasped.
“me too,” jet smiled.
you looked up at him, and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“i love love love love it! thank you so much. i can’t wait to give you your valentine’s day present,” you smiled, pulling away from the hug.
“and i can’t wait to receive it,” jet smiled, pressing his lips onto yours gently.
zuko watched you kiss him shortly, having to avert his eyes. he felt like he was about to throw up, and he didn’t know why. mai noticed his discomfort and put a hand on his thigh.
“why don’t we pay and get out of here, yeah? we don’t need to watch this,” she said.
zuko nodded, glancing back over to you, sighing as you were showing everyone the necklace. he then turned to mai, smiling at her.
“sounds good, babe.”

Everything Has Changed [Zuko x Reader]
Title: Everything Has Changed Summary: Even after returning to the Fire Nation, you weren't happy. Zuko on the other hand seemed to be having a lot better time. Maybe, he would be better off without you here, ruining his happiness. Warnings: A little bit of angst? Request: N/A
A/N: This wasn't requested, but I've been rewatching ATLA recently because it's been added onto Netflix and I'm feeling inspired <3
PART 1: EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED PART 2: CHANGE IS GOOD PART 3: CHANGING SPIRITS PART 4: A HEART OF CHANGE
Tumblr media
Zuko~Everything Has Changed
You'd been Zuko's best friend for as long as you could remember. And, although the friendship hadn't always been easy -the Prince had quite a famous temper- you couldn't even imagine a world in which you weren't friends. This is why the inner turmoil you were feeling inside was making you feel all the more guilty.
You had returned back to the Fire Nation when Zuko had reclaimed his honour by fighting the Avatar along with his sister, Azula. Since you didn’t side with the Avatar and the 'traitor' Iroh, you'd been welcomed back with open arms. However, it wasn't quite the life you were expecting. You were still happy for Zuko! Of course- this is what he'd always wanted. In fact, you'd always supported Zuko in his journey to find the Avatar but something about this felt wrong. Especially since Aang had helped Zuko's uncle, Iroh, to find and rescue Zuko from the caves under Ba Sing Sai.
So, now you were stuck in a very difficult position.
It had almost been a month since you and Zuko had returned to the Fire Nation, and yet you'd barely spoken a word to each other. Once, you had felt like he was the only soul in the universe that understood you completely… And, now? It felt like you didn’t even know him. He'd been far too busy celebrating the fact he was now recognised as the Crown Prince. You'd also noticed that he'd been spending more time with Mai- along with Azula and Ty Lee.
That didn’t sit right with you. As long as you live, you promised yourself you would never trust Azula. Where she was involved, it meant trouble. She was the type of person that always had an ulterior motive- even when there didn't seem a need for one.
And, as for Ty Lee and Mai, you just saw them as Azula's attack dogs. Not that she needed help fighting people, but you couldn't exactly call them her friends. Azula didn't have friends. That required her to care about other people. The only way she knew how to relate to people was through fear. Yet another reason you found to keep as far away from her as possible.
Zuko seemed to be doing the same to you. Maybe him and Azula were more alike than you thought.
You had gone down to the Royal Gardens for some peace. As much as the 'Hero's Welcome' was a good ego booster, it wasn't good for the soul. And, right now you were doing some serious soul searching. You'd helped the Fire Nation. You'd fought the Avatar. You should feel good. Right? Except you didn’t, you felt awful. When Aang was shot down, all you could see was a child. A 12 year old kid who hadn't chosen this role in the world. Who was just trying to survive. Who was trying to help the universe.
Sighing, you put your head in your hands. What had you done? What had Zuko done? You thought of Uncle Iroh… How you had betrayed him. You told yourself that you were doing it to survive, that you couldn’t survive a Fire Nation Prison, but the truth was that you were a coward. A coward who couldn’t do the right thing.
You hadn’t realised you had started crying until your tears had slipped down your cheeks. Quickly, you wiped them away. Crying was weakness.
Your attention was caught by a small turtle duck quacking loudly. He appeared to be suck in a weed within the pond, meaning he was separated from his family. You could sense his distress from where you sat. Gently, you moved to the little creature, and slowly removed the weeds from around the turtle duck. Hurriedly, he swam to his mother, who welcomed him immediately. You watched the family of ducks swim happily away. Together. Loved.
"Why can't I just be like you, little turtle duck?" you murmur to yourself, "You seem so happy. I wish I could feel like that again."
It was only then you noticed how dark it had gotten. It was best to return to your room before the guards started asking questions- and 'suggesting' you return to safety. Despite being welcome in the palace, it felt more like a prison.
What you hadn't realised while you had been sat in the gardens, was that you hadn't entirely been alone. Zuko had walked past the entrance to the caught yard and you had caught his eye. At first he saw a glimmer of his mother sitting by the pond. She had always loved animals, especially feeding the turtle ducks. But then his vision cleared and he had seen you. It made his heart sink. He hadn't spoken to you in weeks. He didn't entirely know why…
Zuko watched you disappear out of the garden and down the corridor… Away from him.
He hated to admit it but being back in the Fire Nation wasn't bringing him the happiness he thought it would. His honour had technically been restored and yet he was feeling more ashamed than ever.
Part of him wanted to follow you; the other half knew he should visit Mai as he had promised earlier. The latter part of him won, but he couldn't help but look back in your direction. As soon as he reached Mai's room, he knocked softly.
"Hey, what took you so long?" Mai asked, dragging him into the room, "I thought you'd never show up."
"Ah," Zuko let out, "I didn’t- I just got caught up. That's all."
     "Whatever," Mai smiled.
As much as Zuko wanted to enjoy his girlfriend's company, you were still nagging on his mind. Even when Mai was speaking, he was still thinking back to you. How sad you looked. How guilty he felt about ignoring you. Mai started noticing how distant Zuko was being.
    "Okay, what's going on?"
     "Nothing," Zuko said defensively.
"What's with you? You don’t have to snap at me. I was just asking a question," Mai replied, leaning away and folding her arms.
     Zuko sighed.
"I'm sorry. I'm just tired," he said, "I need to go. We'll talk tomorrow."
Mai attempted to reply but Zuko was gone.
---
You'd been inside your head for the past hour. It was as if everything was slowly coming together. You knew what you had to do now. It wouldn’t be easy- but when was the right thing to do ever easy? Some part of you broke knowing you'd have to leave Zuko behind but in the end you couldn't let him control your destiny- not when he seemed to want no part in your future.
You began packing as quickly as you could. Throwing a few items of clothing into a bag as well as some medicine, basic hygiene products and a blanket. You didn't know where you were going but you knew you had to get out.
Just as you finished packing, you heard a knocking at the door.
"Hello?" you reply after a moment of hesitation.
    Zuko hesitated.
"Who's there?" you replied, walking closer to the door.
With one hand you slowly began opening the door, with the other you had a small flame building. It never hurt to take a precaution when living in a place like the Fire Nation.
You fully opened the door and saw Zuko: you were stunned for a moment.
    "Zuko?" you asked.
Gently, you let your hand drop, and the flame went out with it. You opened the door and walked back into your room, leaving it open to Zuko whether he was going to follow or not. He was surprised at your lack of response. He was expecting you to cry at him or yell at him, but there was nothing.
He followed you into your room and shut the door behind you.
"Don't you want to know why I'm here?" Zuko asks.
"I don't think it's going to matter much longer," you tell him, "I don't think anything you're about to say is going to matter much longer, Prince Zuko."
"Prince Zuko?" he repeated, "You've never called me that. Not even when we were kids."
"Yeah, well things have changed since then."
"For the better!" Zuko insisted, "You're telling me you preferred it when we were sailing in the frozen South Pole for weeks at a time than being a war hero in your own nation? You can't be serious?"
     "Maybe I did."
"You can't be serious! I- We were miserable!"
"Maybe you were! I wasn't!" you yelled at him, walking closer to him, "I had my best friend! I don't even know who you are anymore! You haven't spoken to me in weeks!"
   "Y/N, I-"
"-No! Don't Y/N me!" you snapped at him, pressing a finer to his chest, "I was there for you. I never stopped believing in you. I never left your side. But, the moment you get back here, the moment you have your precious honour back, you forget I even exist!"
   Zuko was silent.
"And, the saddest part is that I waited for you," you murmured, all your anger gone, "I waited. I thought maybe you're just busy, off doing Prince stuff. But, then I saw you with Mai. Even Azula. And, I knew something had changed. I thought I was your friend; that we had a friendship that was unbreakable. But, now I see you were just using me as a replacement. As a place holder."
"No," Zuko cried out, "That's not true."
You turned away, trying not to let him see your tears building.
"Then tell me why I feel this way. A stranger in my own nation. A prisoner in my own nation."
   "I'm sorry… I didn't think-"
   "-No you didn't think."
Zuko tried to reach out towards you. And, then he noticed your bag on your bed. It was full and there was items strewn around your room. Something was going on.
"Y/N, what are you doing? What do you mean it's not going to matter anymore?"
  "I'm leaving."
   "You can't."
   "I have to."
"You can't leave me here, please," Zuko pleaded.
"You'll be just fine," you sadly smiled, "You haven't needed me since you got back. I'm sure you won't even notice I'm gone."
    "That's not true!" Zuko argued.
   "Then what is the truth?"
"The reason… The reason I couldn’t talk to you… Is because every time I looked at you I was remined of that day in Ba Sing Sei," Zuko murmured, "I… I've realised I made the wrong decision that day. Looking at you just reminded me I didn't need to be in the Fire Nation to be home. I just needed you."
   "Oh, Zuko."
"I'm sorry," he murmured, "I truly am. I'll do anything to make it up to you. Anything."
   "Leave with me."
"I want to leave," Zuko promised, "But it needs to be the right time. The solstice."
"I'll wait," you agreed, "But promise me something."
   "Anything."
"Promise me things will be different this time. I'm tired of fighting against the world's last hope. I'm tired of not doing the right thing."
"I know my destiny now. My uncle helped me see the light," Zuko said quietly, "I know what I must do now. I'm going to find the Avatar, and I'm going to help him defeat the Fire Lord."
"Not 'I'. We. I'm coming with you."
Zuko nodded at you. And, for the first time in what felt like forever he had hope.

“We announce the birth of a healthy girl…Princess Y/N!” Chief Arnook announced as the crowd cheered for their new princes alongside Yue. What the crowd didn't know was the difficulties of even keeping her a healthy princess. Once the baby was born, she couldn't stop wailing and crying. It was like every bone of her body was in pain. All the medical help didn't do anything, they didnt know why the Chief’s daughter was in so much pain. Yagoda suggests going to the Spirit Oasis, it's their only chance. Chief Arnook sweats as well as his wife, as if they're bound to be unlucky for every life they give. The royal parents of this princess used the same technique as they did with their previous daughter. Dipping her in the Spirit Oasis while praying for her life to the moon spirit, the color of the girl's hair turned from brown to a graceful white. Silent cheers and cries as they held their newest child close to them, happy the moon spirit gave another one of their daughters a second chance.

“Stop touching the edge of your coat” My mother instructed as she pulled my hand from the cuffs. I whined but one stern look from my mother stopped me. I huffed as I stood up straight leaning more so to my sister, Yue who took my hand graciously. In books and stories becoming a princess sounds like a dream. You have money, attention and you could do whatever you want. Everything is accurate except the last one, I couldn't do everything I wanted. I had to be restrained to the guards and my parents eye, even Yue doesnt get this treatment as much as I do. However I forgot to mention how I even got into strict confinement in the first place. “What are you doing?” My father grabbed my hand making the water orb splash at both of our feet. “She's a water bender…” My mom whispered as my dad's eyes widened. “Y/N…” He spoke softly as he held both of my shoulders in a kindly manner. “Do not water bend, it's not allowed for people like you”. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at him confused. He sighed as he took my hand. “Y/N, where we live only men are allowed to use waterbending, that's their job…to protect” My father shows me to the boys training their bending. “Especially people like you and your sister, you're both very important to this nation”. I didn't listen, it's not like I didn't understand what he was saying, I just didnt understand why it had to be like this. I zoned off as I saw the male benders. Envying that they can use their gift while I couldn't use mine. I snapped out of my zoned out space with a little pinch given by my sister. I flinched lightly as she slightly giggled earning a hush from our mother. I don't understand us needing to come to these royalty meetings, neither Yue and I are close to 16. Well she is closer to 16 by what? 6 years? That's still a whole 6 years till 16! I'm only younger than Yue by a year, however people treat me like a polar bear dog, cooing at me constantly for doing the littlest task while Yue gets treated so much more maturely. Some might say I have it easier but honestly I just feel dumb. Once the meeting ended we respectfully bowed and got up following our father. I held back my yawn as I saw the now night sky, looking how beautiful the moon is. ҉ ☾ I woke up in the middle of the night, groaning as I looked at the moon. I brush through my tangled hair with my hand while walking outside near the river. Is anyone there? I internally thought as I scavenged the area to see if there were any witnesses. I double checked and took a deep breath. Opening my eyes I hold the water orb, feeling the calming air around me. “You're going to get caught if you keep doing that”. I yelped and dropped my water orb. I turn around immediately with widened eyes meeting Yue. “Oh Yue” I sigh in relief as she glared at me. “You could've gotten caught by the guards and gotten in more trouble then you already have”. I sigh in understanding but also in annoyance. This isn't the first time I have snuck out to try out waterbending. Some days I have been caught but some days I haven't. “I'm going back to bed” I sigh with my head down “Are you?” “Yes, I am” Yue giggled as she patted me on the back. “I believe you can use it one day Y/N, I really you” She whispered sweetly as I nodded. “Thank you”

You will be amazing on day
zuko and mom reader
Tumblr media
life had changed for you when you had married Prince ozai, for the sake and wellbeing of your family and village. As the duty of daughter and wife had been something you are balancing, that was until motherhood had came into the equation. Now your had become a lady of the nation and a soon to be mother, in the royal family. You had made a promise to love your children and care off them, along with teaching them well in hopes they didn’t become like their father.
zuko “ mom” you are feeding some turtle duck by yourself in one of the palaces, many gardens when you had heard someone calling you. As you soon looked up to see it zuko, he soon reached you.
y/n “ hello my son why has made you run away the way here”
zuko “ I wanted to show you the gift uncle iroh sent me” zuko soon showed you a earth king blade as he sat down next to you.
y/n “ wow this is amazing craftsmanship and the words are wonderful as well”
zuko “ It say never give up"
y/n " yes it those your uncle might have a good reason for you giving you that my boy"
zuko " yes mom ... umm mom what is your family like" you had gotten very quiet when you had heard zuko asking about your family, you never told zuko or azula about your family. As your husband and azulon hadn't allowed you to speak about them, or even allowed you to go see them as well.
y/n " ......."
zuko " mom are you okay"
y/n " I'm good hey hey don't you come feed the trutepl ducks with me"
zuko " okay mom" you ahd given zuko some of the bread and he was feeding the ducks.
zuko " mom do you ever think I will be gifted in fire bending like everyone else in the family.even you are gifted as well"
y/n " well yes one day you will be an amazing fire bender but it take many years to master, fire bending my boy you and you are good already I love the moves you do"
zuko " even if I fall on my but"
y/n " yes even if you fall on your butt" you soon brought zuko close to you making him laugh, and bring him into a warm embrace. Him and azula are you most valuable treasures.
y/n " you know you coming from a very long line of proud fire benders"
zuko " I do"
y/n " yes and one day you will be added to that list of amazing fire bender"
zuko " thank mom"
y/n " you are welcome"
zuko " mom when I get older and I will be the best prince you can be proud of"
y/n " oh zuko I'm already proud of you and all you have done now, and I know you will do many greta things when you are older"
zuko " will you be there when it happens"
y/n " yes I will but if I'm not there I will be there with you in spirt and heart, no matter where you go I will always love you"
zuko " yes mom"
y/n " if you want to run along and play with your sister and her friends you can, you don't have to stay here with me"
zuko " I rather stay here with you a bit longer mom"
y/n " okay you can and hey I will tell you some great stories of spirts, so you can learn about them as I know your uncle has been telling you enough"
zuko " yes mom I will love to hear more stories"
y/n " well that good to hear" you had sat with zuko feeding and watching the turtle ducks in the pond, as you had been telling zuko tales about spirts from all the nations. You knew zuko will be amazing one day but he will have to go through a long journey, in life and experience many things as well but one day he will be amazing. Deep down you are hoping the ozai doesn't try to control him, as you couldn't bare the thought of your kids becoming like their father when they could become their own person in the end. There was also the hope that you will be there to see the grown up, and see their future selves.

Tumblr media

I love the concept of the gaang interacting with all there children and i haven’t seen to many oneshots about it. I hope you enjoy this one because i think it’s my favourite one yet. keep requesting
- smells x
the laugh of children could be heard echoing through the hallways of the palace, the patter of feet coming closer and closer to banquet hall were y/n was helping organize decorations for the banquet this evening
uh oh here we go
“your highness the children are here to speak with you” the guard explained, trying to suppress his grin
“thank you enzo, let them in please” y/n smiled kindly to the guard, knowing what was coming next
the children all came in dressed in there best clothes for the feast they all huddled into a group, all whisper shouting until lin and kya pushed tenzin forward to speak
“um hello auntie y/n, we were wondering if we could ask you something?” little tenzin asked very shyly, looking down towards the ground trying not to make eye contact with y/n
“of course what can i help you all with?” y/n smiled to the children
“well um-m see we where...” tenzin stuttered his face becoming redder by the second, the children beginning to giggle behind him except for lin who scowled at all of them for teasing tenzin
instead izumi took over instead pushing tenzin back to the group
“well mum, you know how we are all supposed to sleep in our separate rooms after the feast tonight. we were wondering if instead we could bring all our sleeping mats into one room and stay together?” the young girl spoke very quickly to her mother drawing out the last part, looking at y/n with pleading eyes
“like a sleepover” bumi added stepping forward to stand with izumi
“we promise to be extra, extra good aunt y/n don’t we guys?” kya said turning around to the kids, all of them nodding their heads and giving cheesy smiles
spirits how am i supposed to say no
“well if all of your parents say it’s alright, then i don’t see why you can’t” y/n exclaimed making eye contact with each of them giving them a warm smile
a wave of cheers erupted from the group, all of them running to y/n to wrapping there little arms around her legs yelling thank you over and over again
“now all of you run along the feast will start soon” y/n smiled to the children as they ran off happily discussing who was going to sleep next to who
izumi ran back one last time throwing her arms around y/n’s waist and squeezing it tightly
“you’re the coolest mum ever!” izumi exclaimed smiling widely, before running back to her friends
y/n smiled to herself, before walking over to help one of the guards hang up a picture frame
after hours of hanging up artwork, lighting candles and setting the table the feast was ready to begin. the children all sat at there table while all the gaang sat together, the people of the fire nation began to enter as zuko gave the opening speech to allow the feast to commence.
“it is not true” y/n exclaimed crossing her arms and pouting at her friends all teasing her
“love it’s true, they asked you because you can’t say no to them” zuko chuckled amused, placing a arm on his wife’s chair smilingly at his wife
“no it is not!” y/n exclaimed flabbergasted at her husbands comment, throwing her hands in the air
“sure it isn’t buttercup, i’m sure that if they you asked you something you could say no” toph teased the woman, taking a sip of her drink looking staring at y/n knowing she would crack under her hard stare
“there just so many of them and they always make tenzin talk for them and he has these little pleading eyes so i can’t say no” y/n rambled out before, snuggling her head into the crook of zuko’s neck out of embarrassment
the group laughed loudly at y/n, katara and aang nodding agreeing with knowing of there son’s bargaining capabilities
the rest of the feast was a roaring success, everyone leaving with full stomach’s and droopy eye’s. the children all ran to the large room filled with sleeping mats, cushions and blankets the adult’s followed behind laughing at the children’s antics. the children all changed into there sleeping wear and began to settle for bed, y/n volunteered to stay with the children until they fell asleep.
“be good for aunt y/n okay guys” aang said nodding at kya, bumi and tenzin all lying on there sleeping mats
“we love you” katara whispered placing a kiss on each of there heads before walking out of the door arm wrapped around aang’s waist smiling
“be good you two, okay?” toph exclaimed to lin and su, the girls smiled giving toph a quick hug before running back to there sleeping mat, sokka also winked at the beifong sisters from the door making both the girls giggle before walking out with toph
“izumi, i’ll see you in the morning okay?” zuko whispered into the girls ear giving her a tickle before walking over to y/n
“i’ll see you later love” zuko exclaimed kissing y/n on the head before walking out waving to all the kids before shutting the door
the children erupted with loud voices and shuffling of mats now moving them around after there parents had gone lin and tenzin sheepishly moving there mats next to one another, kya and izumi moved so they would be next to su and bumi.
y/n shook her head and smiled at the children, lin and tenzin reminding her of herself and zuko when they were travelling with the rest of the gaang
“okay, now that you have moved and gotten all of your talking out it’s time for sleep” y/n exclaimed to the children, resulting in a wave of groans and sighs
“but mum we aren’t tired yet!” izumi whined flopping dramatically back onto her sleeping mat, y/n rolling her eyes at her daughters antics
she really is so much like zuko
“could you tell us a story please?” lin asked hesitantly a chorus of yes and pleases following lin’s question
“well i suppose so, what story would you like?” y/n questioned to the children
they all turned to each other and huddled little snippets of conversation could be heard like “no that’s boring” or “weird”, finally su and kya turned around with a squeal
“could you tell us the story of how you and uncle zuko met please?” the girls giggled and the boys groaned
“it’s going to be all gross and romantic” tenzin sighed in annoyance placing his chin in his hand
“what’s wrong with romance tenzin?” lin raised her brow at young air bender with a smirk plastering her face
tenzin let out a muffled nothing blush dusting his cheeks as he looked away from the young beifong girl
“well zuko and i didn’t get a long at first actually, we met at the northern water tribe when we fought against each other.” y/n began to explain to the children
“stop, leave him alone” y/n yelled as she jumped in front of aang and sent water crystals flying at zuko’s head, the fire prince shielding himself with a wall of fire
“i don’t think we have met yet, prince zuko soon to be capture of the avatar” zuko mocked the girl, sending back a ball of fire which y/n gracefully dodged
“i wish i could say it was a pleasure to meet you but it isn’t” y/n yelled sending a wave of water over freezing zuko in a block of ice
“by the way the names y/n” y/n smiled running over to help katara with aang
“woah you trapped dad in ice” izumi gasped looking at her mother with wide eyes
“yes well he was trying to capture aang” y/n explained to her daughter, making the other kids giggled at the thought of the two men trying to capture each other
“i met zuko again when he joined our group at the northern air temple, i didn’t trust him at first i was still convinced he was trying to capture aang. so he tried to convince me that he wasn’t.” y/n smiled at the memory
“spirits y/n what is it going to take to get you to trust me” zuko yelled at the girl throwing his hands in the air out of frustration
“i don’t know zuko, all this time we have been running from you and i’m not sure if i can trust you” y/n yelled back tears beginning to form in her eyes
“please y/n just give me a second chance” zuko pleaded, showing y/n a side of himself that she had never seen before
“okay i will give you a second chance,if you hug me” y/n said smirking at the boy
“what why would you want that” zuko exclaimed stepping away from the girl exasperated at the idea
“come on zuko one hug and i’ll give you a second chance” y/n teased opening her arms and wrapping them around zuko
the fire bender turned a bright shade of red as the girl squeezed him tightly, zuko reluctently wrapped his arms around the girl
y/n smiled contently, quickly placed a kiss on his cheek and skipped away yelling a “thanks zuko” over her shoulder
zuko stood there in shock placing a hand on his cheek were y/n has kissed him
“auntie y/n why did you hug him” kya asked tilting her head
“yes why did you hug me?” zuko questioned leaning against the door smirking at his wife before walking over to her, scary all the kids and y/n
“zuko spirits, how many times have i told you not to sneak up on me” y/n scolded the man whacking him on the chest causing him and the children to chuckle
“sorry love but i wanted to see what was talking you so long but now i want to know why did you hug me” zuko questioned his wife
“well i know how much you hated being hugged or anything involving another person touching you ,it made you feel like you were trusting them which weren’t really open too. so i knew that if you let me hug you and you accepted it that then you truly trusted me and i could trust you.” y/n explained to her husband smiling at him as the kids awed at the couple
“also i had a bit of a crush on you then” y/n laughed before zuko hugged her tightly and whispered in her ear “i love you”
“now i think that is enough stories for tonight so goodnight everyone” y/n exclaimed waving to all the kids blowing out all of the candles, before walking out the door
“thanks for that zuko i don’t think i-mph” y/n was silenced by zuko’s lips pressing against her, still after all these years it sent fire works through her body
“thank you for trusting me love” zuko whispered tucking a stray piece of y/n’s hair behind her ear earning a loving smile from his wife.
“i would do again it a thousand times” y/n gleamed embracing zuko tightly just like she did all those years ago.
