Chapter 1/2: the near-death equivalent of a booty call

Unknown Number hi Alya sorry to bug you i just need some hump. i mean help. oh god yo-yo voice-to-text is so—OW. FUCK. sorry i’m fine. well no i’m not. that’s why i’m texting. i’m outside your building? A series of texts from an unknown number leads Alya outside in the middle of the night to help an injured Ladybug—and to learn exactly why the girl behind the mask seems to trust her so much.

I’ve always thought Ladybug x Alya was cute but I’m just now realizing how juicy it could be for Marinette to be dating her best friend but only she knows like imagine her feeling insecure because Alya has never once looked at her like that and she wonders if Alya would be disappointed when she found out it was her and meanwhile Alya is living her DREAM and dating a super hero but she can’t stop thinking about her best friend why can’t she stop thinking about her best friend she should really focus on her date and NOT think about her best friend.

Alya and Nino have discussed their free passes. Ladybug is Alya’s, Chat Noir is Nino’s.

The thing is, this was… mostly a joke.

Post-Gang of Secrets, Alya has a very difficult choice to make.

Alyanette Stan’s stay winning

“I used to be in love with Ladybug!” Alya blurts out, immediately clapping her hands over her mouth as if that would stop what she’d just said from reaching her best friend’s ears.

It’s too late, though, and Marinette’s shocked expression sends Alya’s heart plummeting. She can’t stop herself from saying more- the powers of the truth akuma that struck her are too strong.

“From that very first day I met her, I couldn’t really think of anyone else, but it’s impossible to date a superhero!”

The words are muffled against her hands, and she squeezes her eyes shut trying to stop it.

“But then it started to change and I-” she clamps down hard on her lip, nearly drawing blood, even as her words pile up on her tongue.

It hurts to resist the draw of the akuma, but it’s just as painful to spill her secret heartaches to Marinette.

Marinette, her best friend in the world. Marinette, who’s a little flakey and a lot crazy. Marinette, who she trusts more than anyone else.

Marinette.

Her girlfriend.

Alya shudders, then, and drops to her knees. It’s taking all of her willpower to deny her truth, it’s unbearable, it’s smothering, it’s-

A hand sets gently on her shoulder, and then another. They’re calm points, something to ground her against the tide of ever-growing secrets that yearn to spill from her lips.

She looks up, and Marinette is smiling at her. Brilliant and beautiful, she steals Alya’s breath away, like always, only she’s confused now, too.

“And then what happened, Alya?” she coaxes, impossibly sweet, somehow understanding even though Alya’s never told her this before.

Slowly, she lets the words stream out.

“...and I kissed her. And... I think I scared her away.”

Her cheeks grow warm with shame, and her vision blurs, just a little. She’s never said anything about this to anyone, even though months have passed. It still hurts.

Alay draws a shaking breath, nearly breaking further when Marinette wipes away some of her tears.

“She fights terrifying and dangerous akumas and amoks every day and I scared her.” She sniffles. “I fucked up, so badly. And I tried to move on.”

Pausing, she notices Marinette looks sad now, too. Guilty, maybe, but what would she have to be guilty for?

“I did move on, I swear I did, but I-”

And she stops again. The next words might hurt the most, not just for herself, but for Marinette, too. But she doesn’t even have to say them.

“But you still love her. Don’t you?” She says it softly, and somehow, Alya knows that she feels the same sort of heartbreak.

“...Yes. I do.” 

The akuma’s power begins to wear off, but it’s already done what it set out to do, and there’s no reason to hold back anymore. Not that there’s anything left to say.

“Marinette, I’m-”

“I’m sorry,” Marinette says, cutting her off. “I never meant...” 

She shakes her head, and laughs a little, though it sounds forced.

“I never meant to make you feel that way. Alya.” Something hardens in her, Alya can tell. There’s a firmness in her touch, in the way she looks at Alya now. “I was afraid. Not of you, but of the danger you could be in. I thought, maybe, cutting off contact completely would keep you safe.”

Do you have any fun Alyanette headcanons?

Oo Alyanette. I haven't delved too much into that one, mostly because I have worked on other ships. No hate though, they're cute as besties or GFs.

If I were to pick one...

Marinette was too shy to confess her feelings to Alya, both love and girls being new to her. So instead she approached Alya as Ladybug.

First it was just lingering to give her more info 'for the blog' and being a 'dutiful hero'. Then came hanging out as Ladybug, not-date-dates, long talks on Paris rooftops about life and lonliness.

Finally Marinette reveals herself to Alya at the same time she confesses her feelings and asks to make their relationship official.

Alya's response was a smile and, "Just when I thought you couldn't get any more amazing."

She has never told wether she was talking about Ladybug, or Marinette.

Wait I don't think we've had one yet? I mean we've had an Alyanette kiss (on the cheek, but still, it was pretty intimate), but not an Alyabug one. I'd love that to change though XD.

CSC - I can imagine a version of lady wifi happening, just with like a ladyblog admin or one of alya's friends taking the roll instead. They could be made cuz they believe everything about the blog's been just for showing off to alyabug, Or an anti ladybug person overheard Chloe and alya's conversation and just wants the akuma attacks to end.

I'll eventually think about how this episode develops x'd

when i saw people talking about a blk cat noir i thought it was nino… would lowkey love to see that concept ngl. i really loved the bits about his friendship with adrien and how much he cares about him, but to me it seems they kind of forgot about that after season 2 and reduced nino to alya’s bf. i get that he’s a secondary character but he’s the male mc’s best friend, that should account for something. anyway after i saw the pic from zag i realized it wasn’t nino. too bad.

The cat partnered with alyabug during the retirement episode should’ve been Nino despite the issues and I will die on this hill

Summary:

No matter how good of a kisser Ladybug turns out to be, Alya's adamant about one thing: she can't possibly date her. Not without knowing who's behind the mask. So whatever happens next? It's totally just casual.

thinking about alya in rocketear saying she could never fall for someone she doesn't really know, and how i don't think i've ever seen anyone explore that in an alyabug/renabug context

thinking about alya insisting that it's just casual. that she won't fall for ladybug, and marinette's just willing to accept whatever she can get, because she doesn't think alya would fall for her civilian side when they're already so close and clearly alya's never thought about marinette like that. but marinette's head over heels, listening to alya gush about her hookups with ladybug, trying not to kiss alya silly right then and there because she's so cute when she gets excited

thinking about how alya would obviously end up falling for ladybug anyways, but she can't shake the part of her that's desperate to know who ladybug is. maybe it irritates her, that ladybug won't trust her with that. and she knows it's wrong to try and force ladybug to reveal herself, but she doesn't think she can just let it go. she doesn't know what to do. and marinette's still listening to alya go on and on about this and she's seconds away from bursting out with the truth and--
