A bill that would empower the Alberta government to remove elected municipal officials or strike down local bylaws is an "attack on local democracy," says the capital city's mayor.

Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, was announced Thursday and makes dozens of amendments to the Local Authorities Election Act and the Municipal Government Act (MGA).

 "I don't know who has asked for this," Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi told CTV News Edmonton Friday. "I don't know what problem the province is trying to solve when there are so many other priorities that they should be focused on." [...]

"When the province writes laws, it puts it through the legislative system where it can be debated," said Eric Adams, a constitutional law expert at the University of Alberta.

Another thing is that I don't think people realize Batman's feelings towards killing is "Where do I draw the line?"

Okay, so we have several mass murders/serial killers--most people won't argue they deserve death. But you've got someone who's killed hundreds and another who's killed under a dozen: both are mass murderers/serial killers, though. Do they both deserve to die? Yes? No?

Maybe you said yes, and fine, maybe I can concede that. But what about this: an individual that murdered a six-year-old and two infants. Do they deserve to die? Yes? No? You're probably thinking they're an adult, but what if I tell you the individual was eight? Does your answer change? The crime certainly didn't.

Here's another dilemma: a woman, supposedly drunk, microwaves her 28-day-old for two minutes. Do they deserve death?

There's a lot of stories going around the internet of sober women who didn't have access to abortion: they drowned, buried, or left the unwanted babies somewhere; yet I haven't seen anyone condemn them.

A microwave kills in 30 seconds; drowning kills in 20-30 seconds, plus however long they can hold their breath; there have been cases of newborns surviving days after being buried; a newborn can survive 24-48 hours unattended, assuming something else doesn't get them first. Isn't a microwave more humane? Do you condemn those other women now?

Alright, alright, last one. Two individuals cook a nineteen-month-old to death in an oven. Do they deserve death, too? Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot to mention the two individuals were three-year-olds. Is your answer still the same?

I hope you found some of these challenging, because here is my final question: where do you draw the line between who does and doesn't deserve to die?
