Lessons by the fae
A/n: This was such a loveley request to do! Thank you so much @ the person who send me this request.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
You were the type of person who was easily distracted by everything around you. A wild child. Your mother sent you and your sister out to gather blueberries, but you got distracted and returned with a big bouquet of flowers instead. On walks they had to make sure that you didn’t wander off, mesmerized by a butterfly or dragonfly. Running after rabbits and watching the deers in the meadow. Abolishing shoes and sock in any weather, running barefeet. Hair open and wild, sometimes returning with little braids you claimed have been done by the faires.
It got so bad that you snuck out at night to watch over hedgehogs that were crossing the street near your house. Telling your siblings they were on a way to the secret hedgehog council. Sometimes you heard singing from the woods, wanting to chase after it. To find its cause. Telling your parents that the forest called to you, that you want to go there.
The other villagers told your parents to be careful, the light folk were known to kidnap children and raise them as their own. The whole village was afraid you would be snuck away, never to be seen again.
So…your family moved to the city. You woodland adventurers were forgotten, entirely wiped away from your memories a few years after…
But now you were back, in the village you grew up in, opening the old house that belonged to your grandmother. She had passed away, leaving the house for you. Being the only person to tell your parents: Let the child be, the fae won’t harm her.
Not that you’d remember these days anyway. You were now a child of the city, not used to so much silence and peace. After visiting for two weeks you decided to uproot your life and move back here. An instant connection to your old town, to the old forest right behind the house. People welcomed you with open arms, glad that a ‘new’ face had joined the village.
You were incredibly happy there, the peace and calm working wonders on you. In the city you had trouble sleeping and intense winter depression. Here everything was different, you woke up happy and immediately fell into deep sleep in the evening. Life was perfect in your house at the edge of the forest.
That was until you decided to take a little venture into the forest. You remembered faintly always walking the deer paths of the forest. Slim paths going through the endless trees. Brining you to meadows and lakes nobody knew that existed. Nostalgia overtook you.
Then you heard it, chimes in the wind, little bells and…tender singing. Mesmerized you followed the singing and the voices. Ignoring all the warnings in your head, blocking out the voices of your parents that yelled at you to never walk alone in the forest again. You were too curious, too naive.
“What do we have here?” A deep voice sounded left from you. Startled, you turned around, only to see two…people standing there. “A little human,” The other said. Voices, luring like a lullaby. Making you feel safe. Your breath was caught by their stunning beauty. The left was a woman, dressed in golden clothes, her hair golden blonde, eyes that shone like gold, eyelashes and brows golden in color as well. Her make up - also in yellow and gold.
On the right there was a man, dressed completely in silver, the perfect opposite. His clothes, hair, eyes, eyebrows and lashes - all in silver.
“Who are you?” You managed to ask, your voice strained. Their beauty was too much for your mind to comprehend. “You can call me Silver.” The man answered, walking around you in circles. “And you can call me Gold.” The woman said and walked the other way around.
“And who are you?” They asked with a smirk. Their voices were smooth. “You…can call me Star.” You answered, remembering not to give fae your name. The woman chuckled: “Smart girl, pretty girl. Not giving us your name…” Her voice was a purr as she stood in front of you, cupping your cheek. Her touch was gentle, her eyes so kind, you felt safe in the strangest of ways. “However, you walked into our home, and we do not like trespassers.” The man whispered into your ear from behind. His voice made you shudder. “I am very sorry.” You tried but the woman shushed you:”You need to learn your lesson, little human. Apologizing with words won’t do…Gladly you are so adorable, blessed with such doe eyes. What do you say Silver, shall we keep her as a pet?” The man hummed:” Maybe, let’s taste her first.” You were afraid they thought of literally eating you, wanting to say something but your lips were sealed by Gold’s lips.
To your own surprise you didn’t stop her, no, you enjoyed it. Closing your eyes as she kissed you with lips that tasted like honey. Their hands held you tight, beginning to roam your body and igniting such heat between your legs. “Good pet.” Silver hummed and grabbed your throat, bending you away from Gold to kiss you himself. “Let me taste her too.” He said to Gold and devoured your mouth, his tongue slipping into your mouth. Gold chuckled: “What an eager pet, look how she complies. Your mind was hazy, lost in those kisses they gave you. Their hands began to undress you, fabric slipping down your body until you stood bare in the woods. A breeze caressing your skin.
Their mouths found your neck, making you let out silent moans as they began to cover your neck in the eagerest of kisses. Your hands were guided by them to touch them too, your left massaged Gold’s breast as your right cupped Silver’s crotch. They moaned, enjoying your eagerness.
Suddenly you were on your back on a makeshift bed of moss and blankets. They must have used magic to summon it out of nowhere. Your head was in the lap of Gold as Silver kissed down your body. Your breath went quick as you watched him, whimpers left your mouth. You looked up at Gold who grinned down at you: “Pretty girl…Our girl…” She purred and began to massage your breast, pinching your nipples and making you yelp. Suddenly there was a tongue liking up and down your pussy, your gaze darting down. Silver began to eat you out, moaning into your beautiful cunt. “So delicious, I might stay here for a few hours.” He told Gold who chuckled: “Take your time, she loves it. Don’t you?” You nodded eagerly, his mouth immediately returning to your human pussy. His tongue was eager, longer and more bending than a human tongue. Vines wrapped around your thighs, their leaves having a silver sheen, spreading your legs for Silver. His lips sucking your clit, making you see stars and wriggling around. Gold’s hands teased your nipples, playing with them and pinching. Though she grew bored soon enough. “Time to put your shy mouth to use.” She whispered into your ear, you nodded, ready for anything she wanted. Silver suddenly sucked your clit inside his mouth, making you yelp and thrash, cumming against his face. Both of them giggled: “One of many.” Silver crooned, continuing to eat you out after that. No break, no mercy, just pleasure.
Gold got up behind you, removing her golden dress and underwear. She kneeled over you, presenting you with the most beautiful pussy you have ever seen. She was wet, probably aroused since she saw you. Without her asking you to, you began to kiss and lick. Gold moaned, closing her eyes. You were eager, lost in the want to make her cum. Her hand found your hair, guiding you and grinding into your face. You smirked, happy that you could give something back. Without a warning, you came again, Silver moaning into your cunt. Your arousal aroused him and seeing you eating out Gold as if your life depended on it made him incredibly hard. It didn’t take long for Gold to cum too. For an entire time you stayed like this, all of you cumming and pleasing.
Suddenly Gold lay on top of you, your hands reaching up to touch her pointy ears. She moaned loudly, looking down at you: “Yo…You…” She whispered. You didn’t know how intimate it was to touch a fae’s ears. It was more intimate than having sex. It was far more important than sex. You didn’t know that, so you continued to explore her ears while sucking hickey’s on her skin. You were so lost in your passion of making her moan that Silver was jealous and wanted your attention too, so without a proper warning he buried his fae cock inside your wet cunt. You moaned, held onto Gold who giggled at that. Silver pounded you into the makeshift bed as if his life depended on it. Gold held you down for him, cheering him on. “Take her Silver, make her juices spill onto the moss.” He definitely achieved that. Gold sat up, turned around on you so that she could look at where Silver’s dick impaled your pussy. His cock was bigger than the ones you taken, his tip brushing against all your senstive spots at once. You would loose your mind. Gold's hand found your clit and rubbed tight fast circles as she began to grind on your lower belly. You grabbed her hips, helping her to grind as your legs began to tremble. You were so exhausted already, but you just couldn’t stop. “Good pet.” Silver praised you, grabbing your legs harder. “Help your new masters to cum, you clench so good around my cock.” His voice was hoarse by now. “Clench harder for Silver, pet.” Gold crooned. Their words made you clench and cum. They came too after hearing your little moans.A knot seemed to swell in your lower belly and suddenly burst. Your whole body trembled as you squirted all over the two of them.
“Look at that…” Silver said and chuckled. “Such a good human.” They crooned. Gold giggled and got down From you, they changed positions and Gold's mouth was on you pussy, lapping up all your juices as Silver fucked her from behind, cheering her on:”Make her scream, Gold.” And That was exactly what she did.
Your body twitched in overstimulation and you whined. Wiggling to get away from the intense stimulation, but vines with golden letters held you down all of the sudden. You were just a little Pet for those fae who had such fun Playing with you.
You came another time, Your legs twitching violently. Tears streaming down your face from the immense pleasure. Your mind was torn between ther need to cum and the need to stop. Your mind was fuzzy, your visin blurry. Your hands grabbed the moss beneath you, desperatly trying to hold on to something, anything. Once again they changed positions, Silver fucking you and rubbing your puffy clit while Gold grinded on your lower belly and began to kiss you intensly, your mouth devoured by her tongue.
You closed your eyes, lost in their pleasure, lost in the need to please them and to cum and for it to stop. Suddenly Silver moaned in an language unknown to you and came inside of you. Gold, upon heariing him, came as well. Pushing you into an shee neverending orgasm..
They got up and looked down at you:”I think she learned a thing or two about trespassing…”Their faint giggle was everything you heared before you drifted into unconciousness.
When youh opened your eyes again, you found yourself in your bed, cleaned up and in clothes you did not recognize. On your bedside table stood a leafformed plate with a sandwhich and a flower formed chalice with a pinkish liquid inside.
Would you take the risk and drink and eat farie food? Your pussy definetly agreed on doing that the way she twitched…

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and Major General Gordon Granger announced the end of the Civil War and that the enslaved people in the town were free. This was the last area in the South to receive the orders that slavery was abolished, and this announcement came over 2.5 years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. What has become known as Juneteenth is now a federal holiday since 2021 and it is a symbolic date representing the African American struggle for freedom and equality in the United States and is also a celebration of family and community.
You might ask, what is important about Juneteenth to California history? Slavery was a major topic discussed at the California Constitutional Convention in September 1849. While California did enter the Union on September 9, 1850 as a “free state” as part of Congress’ Compromise of 1850, slavery did exist in California and there were certainly protections under the law that were not awarded to all people. Many enslaved people were brought to California during the Gold Rush.
Early Black civil rights leaders in Sacramento in the 1850s, such as Daniel Blue, Jeremiah B. Sanderson, William Yates, Charles Hackett, and Joseph Smallwood confronted political challenges and sought further representation in California in a time when a Person of Color could not testify against a white person in court. Early California newspapers were full of accounts of enslaved people paying for their freedom, testimonies by anti-slavery and civil rights activists, and stories covering plaintiffs suing for freedom. Elements of slavery continued in California through the Civil War.
The Emancipation Proclamation, General Granger’s announcement, and the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution after the Civil War did not solve issues of freedom and equality. The struggle of civil rights continued through the 20th Century and the extension of those rights to all people continues to this day.
For today, Jared letterpress printed “JUNETEENTH” in 30 line pica wood type. The typeface is French Clarendon and the type was made by the Hamilton Wood Type Company in the late 1880s. This was printed with yellow, red, and green ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.

My dear lgbt+ kids,
An underrated health and wellbeing tool is play.
When you think about playing, you may immediately picture little children - but by definition, play describes “any activity engaged in purely for enjoyment and recreation with no definite practical purpose” and those activities stay important throughout your whole life.
Why are those activities important?
Play is good for your body. Intentionally doing something just for fun helps to activate the “rest and digest” mode that is necessary to recover and heal from stress. It signals that you’re safe and helps your body relieve tension.
It’s also good for your brain. It can stimulate your imagination, visualization and critical thinking skills, which can help you build skills like resilience and adaptability.
Play can also foster empathy and understanding of others as it can help you see things from another’s perspective.
Playing can make you laugh, and laughter comes with a whole sleeve of health benefits, such as decreasing blood pressure and even improving your immune system!
Playing together can strengthen relationships. Positive, fun social interactions are important for your emotional wellbeing.
Now some of you may think “that’s all nice, but how do I even play as an adult?”. While play is a natural behavior of human beings, many adults need to re-learn how to play - it depends on your specific environment and social circles but you may feel a lot of pressure to be productive all the time and play is by its very nature not productive. So, the first step in re-learning play is to give yourself permission to just *be* instead of *do* (and that can be a huge step!).
Some ideas on how to ease back into play:
Think about your childhood. (Or if you can, ask a parent, sibling or childhood friend, that can be a great way to bring back memories!) What were your favorite ways to play back then? What did you love about your favorite game? Does any particular memory immediately give you that “I wish I could do that again” feeling? (You may not necessarily find anything that you want to just replicate as an adult as-is, this is just meant to kick-start your imagination!)
Gameify everyday tasks. Try to spot as many yellow items as possible on your commute to work. Make up a silly song about laundry while putting away the laundry. Pretend to be on a cooking show while making dinner. Do what you always do, just allow yourself to be silly about it!
Do something creative, even (and especially) if you’re not good at it. You may not think of drawing, writing etc. as playing but those are activities you can do for pure entertainment!
Moving your body doesn’t need to be purposeful exercise (and certainly not hating yourself in the gym), it can also be playtime: Do a silly little dance to your favorite song! Tippytoe, crawl, jump, walk backward.. from your bedroom to the kitchen, just for the fun of it!
Rethink toys. While it is fully okay for a grownup to buy, own and play with toys, and we should abolish the negative stereotypes about it (it’s creepy, it’s inherently a sign of poor mental health etc.) these stereotypes do exist and you may simply not feel comfortable. Luckily, there are a few toys that are generally considered socially acceptable for adults or are even marketed towards adults, such as board games, stress balls, adult coloring books, certain Lego sets or fan/collectors toys (like action figures). And when there are no judgy eyes watching, you may also have fun just playing with household items such as cardboard rolls! No need to go out and buy something!
Keep in mind that play isn’t a competition to win. You can’t play wrong - that’s the beauty of it! Just let your curiosity and enthusiasm guide you.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

Another reason why I dropped gender abolition:
Red isn't inherently an angry or lustful color. it's a shade of light, it can't feel rage or desire. we associate it with those things largely because we associate red with heat, and anger and lust make you physically feel hot (and flushed with blood, which is red). But red doesn't have emotions, and it isn't intrinsically tied to any human feelings.
Yet, I think it would be pretty stupid to try to abolish color theory and say that we should never use colors to symbolize emotion because colors can't have emotion.
Now, if you say that you can apply the color red to things that are angry or lustful, or blue to things that are sad, that would be pretty stupid as well. Because, hey, those are colors, they aren't tied to any emotion by virtue of existing. Colors can have a lot of different meanings depending on your culture; red is associated with luck in some places. Black means death and mourning in the West but others associate white with those things. So trying to be "color essentialist" is stupid because colors aren't inherently anything and their meanings shift a lot based on the social context they are in. Hell, even the colors themselves are constructed to some degree; what's the border between pink and red? Why do group so many shades into the overall category of blue? Because we decided to.
But again, just because colors aren't inherently any emotion doesn't mean using them to describe emotions is bad. If we tried to completely disconnect color from emotion, 1. it would be insanely difficult and result in very little material good, and 2. it would really dull (literally) our art. No more "the curtains are blue" symbolism, no more bisexual lighting, no more use of color to explore people and feeling and culture and life.
That's how I feel about gender. Yes, clothing isn't inherently gendered- it's stupid to act like they are! And gender roles can vary wildly between cultures because they are constructs, and rely heavily on social context. And when they are constricting, it's extremely harmful.
But we really are throwing the baby out with the bathwater by saying that since gender roles can be constrictive, gender itself needs to be done away with entirely because it's all bad all the time everywhere.
I like that suits are masculine and dresses are feminine. Because that means I can play with them! I can wear a suit and makeup or a skirt with facial hair and it's playing with meaning and expectation. I frequently use abstract art with lots of color to express inexpressible emotions, and I do the same when I perform gender. I use red and black and yellow and white to turn into visuals what I feel; I use shirts and lipstick and skirts and boots to do the same.
Masculinity and femininity are concepts we made up, there isn't anything inherently masculine about suits or short hair, or anything feminine about skirts and long hair. If you showed a painting full of pinks and reds to someone, they may not think it's expressing affection, because those colors don't inherently mean affection or love or desire. But that doesn't make the painting meaningless. The painter used color to express emotion, using the social construct of those colors to communicate something.
I very much feel like an artist when I'm putting together my daily gender performance; I'm asking myself, what do I want to express to others? What do I want to communicate about my internal feelings? Patriarchal gender roles constrict expression by saying that only some people are allowed to communicate some feelings through certain gender performances. Gender abolition, to me, also restricts expression by saying that it's bad to try and express these things at all. Must our gender performances be hyperindividualistic, completely detached from social context?
I don't want to paint with clear water. I want to paint with color, and I want my painting to be inextricably tied to myself as a person and the cultural context I am painting in.

[Image ID: A black man sitting comfortably on a greenish-white couch with his arms sprawled across the top. He is wearing a black durag with white stripes and a BLM shirt. He has an afro-textured beard. Above him is the Black American Heritage flag, which is three diagonal stripes of red, black, and red, where the center lies a yellow reaf surrounding a sword. The texted captions read throughout the video, "Juneteenth: Educational Purposes," "The Slaves Freed on Juneteenth were NOT African, they were black", "In Reality: African Slaves went extinct after generations of interacial breeding & indoctrination of Christianity", "The Slaves released & Modern Day Black Ppl today are the successful product of said brainwashing & deterioration of thr African in America!" and "Black American Heritage Flag created 1967." End ID]
[Caption: The man says, "Public service announcement in regards to Juneteenth: As we know, the holiday is less than a week away, and we also know, greedy ass corporations are going to try and capitalize and get a dollar in anyway, shape, or form. Which leads me to this announcement, or should be better clarified as advisory. If you step foot, in any store, and you see Juneteenth related products with nothing but the African flag or African flag colors, do not by that shit. This is in no way disrespectful to our melanated neighbors from the mother land. Because, if it's one thing, that the black community has been able to piece together with the context clues of history shared museums and novels. To map out what all happened during that time period, that history books would not tell us in school. It's the simple fact that the slaves that were finally being freed after the Civil War were not African. They were black. Please allow me to explain Juneteenth in that statement I just made. Slavery was officially abolished on January 1st of 1863, when Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Unfortunately, a portion of traitor sore losers- excuse me, I mean slave owners, decided not to relay that information to their slaves for another 2 and half years. Leading to another, smaller batch of slaves to finally found out they were on June 19th of the year 1865. And, honestly, Juneteenth is just the tip of the fucked up iceberg, as to what slave owners were capable of, when they did not want to give up their slaves. Because there were still slave plantations being discovered and shut down past the year of 1865. Killona Slave Plantation in Louisiana was the last recorded discovered in America, and shut down. And that was in the 1970s. The only reason those plantations lasted so long, was because of how isolated they were, in deep forests, and the constructions of roads, and highways, was what lead to their exposure. But in that century of slaves finally being free, there were several factors that they all had in common. They spoke fluid English with no African Language, they were all Christians with no practice of African religion, nor did they know what African tribe they were a part of. Within the first 100 out of 400 years of slavery, Africans were seperated from their tribes, their bloodlines, told to forget their names, and then forced to forget their African religions and learn Christianity, and forced to mix with other races. I have a friend who just discovered he was part Latino, and he does not look Latino at all. Hell, thanks to the best of my family's ability, I know I have African, Native, French, White, and Asian blood running through my veins, and I still don't know what tribes I am connected to. But, that is why I choose to have this flag on my wall, because this flag right here, represents all people of color, who either lost, or do not know their history prior to being naked and chained up on a boat. 3 - The empress
Ironically enough the reversed meaning is "creative block" lol
Gardens are what she painted. Gardens to decorate every noble manor and summer estate of Nia Vasileos. Not all plots of land in the city came with ample enough space for a lavish garden to entertain and amaze the guests. Not all could afford personal water fountains, fish ponds, extravagant flower arrangements, fruit and nut trees. It was sad, in a way, that not everyone got to enjoy the beauty of nature that they helped build.
The palace gardens were a sight to behold. Not everyone, even the palace staff, were allowed in. It belonged to the harem, and it was forbidden for men other than the padishah to enter. It was the culmination of many generation’s devotion and care. The women of the harem were particularly fond of orchids, and every time she visited the palace gardens she made sure to paint a variety of them on small canvases she could sell.
She had been commissioned to paint the royal garden again, this time in an evening sunset glow. She was the only artist in the city with the privilege. Though, she would admit it wasn’t her own merit. Her determination to see the gardens and to get an edge over her fellow artists in the city saw her making a deal with the council of the Nine Lives, she would see to them, and they would see she gains access to the palace. High society and the art world were quite cutthroat after all. The deal would prove it’s worthiness in just a few short months, when her paintings of the royal garden became the most sought after pieces of oil paintings in the city, every noble worth their salt and name simply had to have one.
She had packed her handmade oil paints with her in all the shades she knew she needed, and a couple of extras, the warm tones of the approaching sunset, the yellows of the tiger orchids in bloom, and the lilacs of the captivating figure she is yet to see.
The council wanted her to seek out the woman Karya, known to have joined the harem years ago. They say her abilities in divination magic are unparalleled. No one outside the palace knows what became of her. Though the council let her know that there were rumors of her becoming the head of the harem, the Haseki Sultan, queen-to-be.
She had heard the bards songs about her, the lilac sultan, but that is all she knew about her. The harem has always been shrouded in secrecy, and the people of the city and some from the palace call for it’s abolishment. Did they serve the city? Did they serve the padishah? Most likely they are just looking after themselves.
The painting was coming along nicely, she had laid down the base colors for every part of the garden she could fit on her large horizontal canvas hours ago, and she was dotting hints of bright colors among the bushes, pond and sky to give the painting a hint of detail. The unfinished look was part of the appeal for many of her commissioners, dream-like, a painting you could look at without needing your glasses and your mind would fill in the gaps and details. Yet every spot of color was placed there intentionally, that’s what she took pride in.
She would be welcome in the garden the following eve to finish her painting, so she was in no hurry to leave nor pack her belongings, the palace garden was one of the most secure places in the city so no thief would even try to get in. And with her meticulously taking her time with the details, she spotted in the corner of her eye a veiled woman.
A tall, full figured woman had come out for refreshing evening air, a veil covering her hair and face cascaded down her dress. She held a canister in her hands and made slow calculated steps around the perimeter of the garden, pouring some water out for the thirstiest plants. The smells of the garden were quite strong but the artist’s nose had grown used to the ambiance by that point. A gentle breeze from the ocean carried a smell of pomegranate, jasmine and patchouli with it.
Even in the strange lightning of the sunset, she could see she was wearing lilac with silver accents. She grabbed a pallet knife out of her toolbox and with it she dug a dollop of lilac paint from her pallet and placed it on the canvas. This one was going to be her best one yet.

THE HUSBANDS ARE FIGHTINGGGGGGGGG!!!!!
Is both cute and interesting to see Abe trying to act like his clone father. It makes me wonder if all the clone have some sort of internal struggle with trying to hold the expansion with the originals? I know Joan was wondering if she’s hear voices like her mother…
This post is getting to long
Episode 10
I think these episodes on Hulu are out of order…. Episode 9 was supposed to be before 8, and this one; 10 was supposed to be after 8….
……,Ponce is giving me bad vibes. Like, I think he’s going to kill himself vibes…
JFK getting defensive when Ponce tries to be emotional and talk about feeling. It’s neat to see how angry jfk gets, like on a psychological level…
Did this dude actually die from littler????? I’m mean technically he drowned in his own blood….Wait. That makes me wonder, when a clone dies, would the government just like, revive or recline the clone? Because the clone is of a famous person, I don’t think the government would be that willing to let the clones die..
Doc. Dude let the man grief/say goodbye to his son.
Something something jfk trying to sleep in the coffin with ponce…something something grief and love and poetry….
I forgot that ghandi was accidentally sent to jail…
JFK crying!!!! Him seeing the ghost of his dead best friends!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH nice. Nooooooo jfk wishing for his friend back 🥺🥺🥺

The random gore is sometimes so jarring….
Makeover time whooo!! :)
Marie having a crush on ghandi is cute
Whoo jfk helping ghandi!!
Forgot to mention this, but the background colors for this show is cool. They usually solid colors a lot, and it’s mostly either cold colors; blue, purple, green; or warm colors of red, yellow, pink, and orange too. It’s cool :)
I didn’t know. I didn’t know you didn’t have a mom. Iconic.
Why is abe and Cleo in a gradient void?
Interesting to see Abe being confused on his feeling for Joan or Cleo. It does feel a bit random tho…

:0 gasp Joan and jfk made out
Wow. That how it ends. Everyone frozen in the meat locker.
Hmmmm. I can see why this show was popular, but I can also see why it faded out of people’s memories. It’s a 13 episode show from 2003, there not a lot to talk about.
The show is decent. You have to get over the black humor/racist jokes, lots of sex stuff, and random gore, but AFTER those, it’s pretty ok? I think the only people that had like, character development was Abe and maybe Joan?
Season 1

Andria was built so artfully that its every street follows a planet's orbit, and the buildings and the places of community life repeat the order of the constellations and the position of the most luminous stars: Antares, Alpheratz, Capricorn, the Cepheids. The city's calendar is so regulated that jobs and offices and ceremonies are arranged in a map corresponding to the firmament on that date: and thus the days on earth and the nights in the sky reflect each other. Though it is painstakingly regimented, the city's life flows calmly like the motion of the celestial bodies and it acquires the inevitability of phenomena not subject to human caprice. In praising Andria's citizens for their productive industry and their spiritual ease, I was led to say: I can well understand how you, feeling yourselves part of an unchanging heaven, cogs in a meticulous clockwork, take care not to make the slightest change in your city and your habits. Andria is the only city I know where it is best to remain motionless in time. They looked at one another dumbfounded. "But why? Whoever said such a thing?" And they led me to visit a suspended street recently opened over a bamboo grove, a shadow-theater under construction in the place of the municipal kennels, now moved to the pavilions of the former lazaretto, abolished when the last plague victims were cured, and - just inaugurated - a river port, a statue of Thales, a toboggan slide. "And these innovations do not disturb your city's astral rhythm?" I asked. "Our city and the sky correspond so perfectly," they answered, "that any change in Andria involves some novelty among the stars." The astronomers, after each change takes place in Andria, peer into their telescopes and report a nova's explosion, or a remote point in the firmament's change of color from orange to yellow, the expansion of a nebula, the bending of a spiral of the Milky Way. Each change implies a sequence of other changes, in Andria as among the stars: the city and the sky never remain the same. As for the character of Andria's inhabitants, two virtues are worth mentioning: self-confidence and prudence. Convinced that every innovation in the city influences the sky's pattern, before taking any decision they calculate the risks and advantages for themselves and for the city and for all worlds.

UHHH this is a lot so you don't have to answer all of the if you don't want but;
4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12
Thanks so much for the questions!!!
4. favorite thing to draw
Plus-sized and fat bodies, absolutely. I've also been having a TON of fun with all the different shapes hollow knight buggies take, but my one love will always be my bigger bodies. I started off drawing them to put art in the world that I never got to see for myself, and that still holds true. Fat rolls, cellulite, stretch marks, body hair, all of them are divine and beloved to me.
5. least favorite thing to draw
FEET. FEET. FEET. I HATE FEET HOW DO THEY WORK. WHY CANT EVERYONE JUST HAVE CUTE LITTLE PAWS OR HOOVES. OR BUG CLAWS. I THINK WE SHOULD ABOLISH FEET. I THINK THE HUMAN RACE CAN DO BETTER. ABOLISH FEET 2023.
6. warm colors or cold colors
Warm, absolutely. An old semi-critique a friend gave me is I always adjust my palettes to be warmer, and you know what? Yeah I do. My favorite colors are orange, yellow, pink, and a warm teal, so I tend to skew towards them when I can. I don't think there's enough orange or yellow in the world.
8. what's the most fun and the least fun parts about your process (TITTIES BELOW)
The most fun is probably the lineart stages when I'm doing intricate lineart. I haven't done any recently for HK stuff, but I used to be The Lineart Guy haha. These are both from 2020, but doing the lines for the hair and all the little intricate details was very soothing to me. I once did a nine hour stream where i almost exclusively lined a character's hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've also really come to like the blocking in and 'sketching' portions of painting too.
My least favorite part is coloring. Which is odd because it tends to be the part I get compliments about the most? But it takes me the longest and I Do Not Like It.
10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished
This depends! I usually do rough sketch/thumbnail -> clean sketch -> lineart -> color, if it follows that area. Otherwise for paintings I end up sketching and then build up off the sketch on the same layer. Usually only 1-2, sometimes 3-4 if I can't get a concept down.
12. show us an old drawing
Tumblr media
Oldest art photo I have on my google photos. Throwback to when I was 13 and thought I was gonna run a my little pony marine biology ask blog and then proceeded to not do that after like 2 posts LMFAO (circa 2014)

Bonaire slave hut by mandyhedley The little coral stone slave houses were built in 1850. This was 13 years before slavery was abolished on Bonaire. Before that time the slaves slept in the open air or in small wooden huts. Different colored slave huts can be seen at two locations along the Pekelmeer. Near the white salt pan are the white slave huts and ocher yellow slave huts can be found at the red salt pan. There is also a larger house next to the white slave huts. This house was for the bomba (the overseer). The small two-person houses (barely 1.5 meters high) have no windows and have small doors where you can hardly imagine that two adult men could sleep in there. Sometimes six slaves slept in one house! https://flic.kr/p/2o5SseQ

Market Research Facilities for Qualitative studies Central testing
A central location test (CLT) is frequently executed for quantitative marketing research objectives. Contrasting to a home-use test where testing takes place In the contributors' homes, CLTs occur in a controlled environment. CLTs, frequently referred to as hall tests, have several pros and the ability to interact physically with the contributors.
Central Location Tests (CLTs) are a great way to fabricate a controlled environment for your market research. This is frequently necessary for taste testing and sensory testing.
Benefits of CLT in Market Research
CLTs are directed in various environments, including hotels, malls, churches, testing labs, schools, eateries, and community environments.
With CLTs, researchers gain the power to eliminate bias because of the controlled-environment feature. For example, you are leading a taste test. You can give all contributors the same amount of food along with the same beverage to drink. Moreover, because all contributors are monitored in the same situation, this further abolishes bias.
CLTs  also gives researchers the power to attain "raw" feedback. Unlike over-the-phone and online surveys, CLTs allow viewing the contributors' gestures and straight faces. This observational data is crucial for product development and marketing objectives.
Another benefit of CLTs stems from researchers being skillful in asking questions in actual time based on contributor actions. This is especially important as it permits researchers to test impalpable ideas and palpable goods thoroughly. Researchers can transcribe contributors' sensory abstractions and more.
CLTs are normally a thrifty method for directing market research. CLT market research companies can book an appropriate location of their choice that astonishments their research tasks. CLTs also give researchers the power to enlist a large number of contributors in a limited time.
Types of Central Location Testing
Using the correct testing method is crucial to draw the most valuable data from a CLT. There are several to opt from. Your marketing research objectives will affect the most suitable method for each CLT you direct.
Paired Comparison Test
Each participant is given a set of standardized yardsticks along with two products. They are then questioned to contrast those products at the same time according to the standardized yardstick. This assists researchers realize how two products contrast against one another.
Monadic Test
Each contributor is assigned to focus on a single product. Much of the time, monadic tests are executed during CLTs. To decide how well the product will execute once it is introduced to the marketplace.
Back-to-Back-Monadic Test
During this kind of test, each participant estimates two products but not at the same time. After estimating each product, the participants are then tasked with re-estimating the products at the same time. This offers researchers with valuable comparative gradings data.
The point of having the participants evaluate each product separately first is to counterpoise consumers who frequently tend to overemphasize the differences between the products when they estimate them. At the same time, without first having assessed them individually.
Proto-Monadic Test
Participants are questioned to assess one product by itself. They are then given another product to contrast with the first one. All over the CLT, researchers turn which product is advertised first and which one is then introduced secondly for the contrast.
Redo Paired Contrast Test
Participants are asked to contrast the same two products not less than two times. The objective of repetition is to guarantee the initial feedback provided was not arbitrarily. For example, one of the products comes in yellow wrapping, but the participant does not like this color. At first, this may form a bias and source the participant to hate the product. After assessing the same product again, however, the participant is likelier to look far off any subjective dislikes.
CLTs need strategic organization but are generally a cost-effective way to upgrade product development and marketing ideas. These tests can significantly differ in their locations. For example, you are leading a taste test in the center of a shopping mall. One or two prosecutors stand in the mall's center and enlist participants as they walk by. The taste testing may occur immediately as the person enlists, or participants may be directed to a different site. Such as a meeting room in another corner of the mall.
CLTs that cover taste testing is ideal for research and development scientists as it assists them in drawing up new foods and beverages. It also offers valuable intuition about assembling its existing food and beverage products.
On the other end of the diapason, researchers can enlist participants well before the CLT occurs. This is frequently seen when CLTs are directed in a very controlled environment, such as a testing lab, hotel, or focus group facility where the latest research equipment is used to collect data. An example of such equipment is a special apparatus that detects the vergence movements of participants.

EDITOR:  Many wonderful people in our community have similar goals for good things in our area.  I have said before that I am not a social media person.  I like my news printed.  People have shared with me some negative and untrue things that are aired in public.   I’m always sorry to hear of those things and never understand why some insist on running people down.  My Daddy used to say  “If people are talking bad about me, they are letting someone else rest.”  My Dad taught me a lot in his short 54 years on earth.  I cherish his lessons  that live in my heart.  So, the next time you hear of others tearing each other down, just think of the time they are wasting and how that same energy could be used doing something good.   And if you are a social media writer, remember another lesson we should all live by:  “If you can’t say something good, don’t say anything.”   Maybe a face-to-face conversation makes clearer understanding than socializing to all.    LRM

Jottings from Jeannie:  Mrs. Hall's Birthday Tradition Good friend, Susan, shared this tidbit with me. On her birthday, Mrs. Hall, an elderly widow, always invited neighbor Susan, a busy graduate student, over for a cup of tea and fancy cupcake. "OH! Susan, it's so nice to share time just with you!" Mrs. Hall would declare. An exquisitely wrapped birthday gift and fresh flowers decorated the tea table. Susan's contribution to the yearly celebration was usually a cookbook. Don't feel sorry for Mrs. Hall.  She had friends and family who took her out to eat and brought her tokens of their affection.  However, THE BIRTHDAY GIFT and THE FRESH FLOWERS were gifts that Mrs. Hall presented to HERSELF.  Susan remembers one celebration in particular.   It was bitterly cold, but  yellow roses brought sunny joy to teatime. And her present to herself?   Mrs. Hall had it wrapped and waiting to be opened since last summer! It was a delicate child's tea set!   " I couldn't resist this! I'll display it, and then someday I will give it to my Granddaughter!" Miz Jeannie loves ALL, All of Y'ALL!!!

Why Juneteenth? President Biden signed Junteenth as a federal holiday in 2021. Actually, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in 1865 in the United States. This was the beginning of a long battle to abolish hatred and separation that divided people with different skin colors.   On June 19th, 1964 Segregation was outlawed when the United States Congress passed the Civil Rights Act after a long battle in the Senate.  Held up by Southern Democrats who filibustered for 3 months, President Lyndon  Johnson, a Southern Democrat himself,  warned his peers with the threat of not seeing another Southern President for a century.  Johnson said: “We believe all men are entitled to the blessings of liberty. Yet millions are being deprived of those blessings … because of the color of their skin. The reasons are deeply imbedded in history and tradition and the nature of man…...it cannot continue. … Our constitution … forbids it. The principles of our freedom forbid it. Morality forbids it. And [now] the law … forbids it.” *  To me, Juneteenth celebrates the ones who gave their lives or who did not remain silent to bring equality to all of God’s children. LRM
ASHTON RECALLS: DAR STUDENT FROM 1942-46 RECALLS EXPERIENCES -  (Thirteenth Installment of Pauline Kelley Cannon's Memoir). . .After I finished the ninth grade I worked all summer in the office to pay my tuition. . .There were large boxes of clothes and shoes that the DAR ladies sent to the school to be sold at the rummage sales, and we had to sort and itemize everything. We would also write letters to the ladies, thanking them. . .I also cut stencils and ran the mimeograph machine in the office. We never knew there was such a thing as a computer. . .Most of the girls who came back to work during the summer stayed in the South Carolina Building. Sometimes after work we would go to the attic and bring old mattresses down and put them on one side of the living room floor to do our exercises. We had a lot of fun but the next morning we would have aching muscles. Fortunately, all of the soreness would be worked out as we did our jobs. . .THE SCHOOL HAD A GLEE CLUB and I wanted to join, but prospective members had to try out before a group of judges. The first time I tried out I was not accepted, but I didn't give up. I tried out two more times, and the third time I was accepted. . .I thoroughly enjoyed Glee Club. One of our highlights would be Founders Day, when we would sing for the DAR ladies. Other students would also perform, displaying their special talents, and we would make speeches, using the skills we had learned in public speaking class.--TO BE CONTINUED NEXT WEEK

World - famous Designs, Then compared to. Nowadays (Hollywood's Menswear Heritage)
Let's look at how men's style andstyle icons improved with time, and what impact film celebrities had on traditional menswear, and if that impact is as durable as it was previously. Before we compare the movie stars of days gone by to the men on the red carpet these days and how it is they impact classic style, let's go to a periodwhen the silver screen wasn't even imaginable. While there's the popular quote, "clothes maketh the man," there are certainly a few individuals that actually got people talking about clothes in the first place. Throughout most of history, fashion was defined by monarchs and aristocrats.
They governed the land, set the trends, and paid handsomely for their clothes. Unless, of course, they stiffed their tailors. Today, needless to say, we have famous people who fixed the style trends. But, back then, from ancient history until the era of film, the ruling class influenced style just like famous individuals do so today.
The people in church back then would even go so far as to use the legal systems to create hierarchies that kept everyone in their place.
That, of course, also extended to fashion and certain people could wear certain things and others couldn't. And by wearing one thing, you were communicating one point. And it had a hugely profound impact on society. For example, some Roman emperors would forbid their nonroyal subjects to wear the color purple under penalty of death.Talk about having a fashion police right there.
[ba dum tss] In many European countries, there were some sure laws not allowing certain people to wear things and others had been forced to use things. For example, a law from 1397 in Venice dictated that Jews had to wear yellow badges so they may be identified visually. Other people were not allowed to wear certain things.
For example, the so-called "Negro Act" from 1740, which was passed in the province of South Carolina, forbade slaves to dress above their status. It also prescribed certain fabrics that were only to be worn by slaves.
Around the same time, in 1746, the Act of Prescription was passed in the British Parliament. It forbade anyone in Scotland to wear a highland dress or tartan. Of course, the fact that it was forbidden was ingrained even more in Scottish culture. Without this act, chances are we wouldn't have the ability to enjoy tartans and highland dresses today. At one time, rich fabrics like silk or velvet or urban fur were reserved for the upper class of society.
Now, once nifty businessmen and members, who were not part of the aristocracy, found methods to also wear these expensive fabrics and furs, the upper class had to come up with something else to distinguish themselves from the non-blue-blooded counterparts. So, in the 19th century, the rich opulence that previously characterized the aristocracy now had to make way for much simpler clothing.
While that shift might appear like it was in line with the general ideas and principles of enlightenment, that wasn't quite true. Hierarchies weren't abolished, they just shifted toward rules of elegance. The guidelines on what towear and what never to wear were closely guardedamong the aristocracy.
And so, if you weren't part of that, you simply didn't know very well what made you part of the group. Rather than just displaying bold colors and rich fabrics, fit became much more important and the tiny details of correctness could decide about one's social fate.
Of course, the upper class kept the secrets of what to wear and what not to wear very close guarded. So,if you were an outsider, you remained an outsider. The whole shift in menswear culture toward more simplicity became really obvious when Beau Brummell entered into high society.
Even though many consider him to be the dandy par excellence today, he was, in fact, at the time, someone who had made menswear more muted and less colorful and flamboyant. He wore his coats with just a white shirt and tie and waistcoat, and it wasn't concerning the color anymore. It was all about how it has been worn and how the tie was tied and how long it took him to make it look that he actually didn't spend any time on it at all. This concept is now also known as "sprezzatura" and if you intend to learn more about it, we have an entire video about it here. As society moved away from feudalism and monarchies, towards a new vision of democracy, and things changed.
Now, entertainers had an increasingly bigger sway on what people on the streets would emulate. Also it didn't matter if they acquired a high pedigree or if they came from humble beginnings.Along with the cultural evolution, the views around consumerism and traditional style shifted once more.
James Dean, The Beatles, and Marlon Brando became cultural figures of the mainstream, and therefore, they influenced the contemporary style of their day. Fame, as we know it today, was born then.
These days people in the entertainment industry have full-time stylists, and something of them is Ashley Weston, which also has a Youtube channel. The cultural andmarket ways of how celebrities are portrayed, how they're marketed are usually somewhat different, but at the same time, you will discover similarities to how things were through the golden age of menswear in the 1930s. So, what was the style of famous men back then? Unlike musicians, businessmen, or statesmen before them, movie star actors were seen almost on a daily basis, be it on the big screen or in the newspapers. So, because these actors were seen more often, people just felt they knew them better and they became bigger stars.
Interestingly, the stars of the 20s such as for example Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, or Fatty Arbuckle often dressed poorly on camera for a comedic effect.
Today, mocking homeless or poor people and their clothing choices on screen is not considered to be gentlemanly behavior, especially not whether it's done for entertainment purposes. On a side note, actors wear sunglasses in between takes to prevent their eyes from getting all that harsh light. Now, people caught on to that and started wearing sunglasses to add a touch of glamour to their own, sometimes not as glamorous, lives. Soon, identified men's figures, like Rudolph Valentino, would pop up playing heartthrobs and gaining mainstream acceptance and significance.
Rudolph was known for his rakish, rather flamboyant taste that had influences from Italy that was distinctly bolder than what most Americans were used to seeing at the time. He often wore his signature slick-backed hairstyle. You can see him wearing cufflinks, and rings with dark stones, and he would also not shy away fromwearing fur. Overall, his style was rakish through and through. Despite the fact that film was developing into a mainstream medium for entertainment, small studios like RKO or Warner Brothers had somewhat tight and limited budgets.
This often meant that especially male actors were expected to supply their own wardrobe, which was used for filming. And this just implies that the needs were a lot more simple at that time.
However, that also means that these actors actually had their own style. They would probably get custom clothing that fit them well and just spoke to their character. Now, this wasn't just true for C-list or B-list actors, but furthermore for the stars at enough time.
Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, and Fred Astaire would often wear their very own clothing in contemporary productions. Obviously, one of the key differences was that actors were expected to build their own brand while on and off-camera. As such, one's style and the clothing one would wear became a big part of what an actor had to understand and master. So, even off the work, Clark Gable had been known for his formal wearand his double-breasted suits, as well asthree-piece single-breasted suits.
His clothes showcased all the hallmarks of 1930s style.
He had pants with big pleats that were full-cut and had cuffs or turnips. His jackets had a wider lapel with a lower gorge, sometimes patch pockets and he was definitely a fan of the drape cut. To learn more about that, check out this guide here. The jackets also had shoulder padding and some waist suppressions and he would always wear a tie and a pocket square. Cary Grant, who bought a large number of suits throughout his career, openly admitted that he didn't choose fashionable matches, but more middle-of-the-fashion stuff and he never considered himself to be well-dressed, while people looking back today think of him as this timeless style icon.
Choosing a lapel that was neither too slim nor too wide and being very much middle of fashion is probably the secret to why his stuff still looks wearable today and timeless. Here you can see him with a three-piece suit in mid-gray flannel with a darker overcoat and a white shirt, shoes, and hat.
Nothing special, nothing fancy, but just very classic. At the time also, many musicians transitioned into film via musicals because they were quite profitable. So, consequent singers like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, or Louis Armstrong became a lot more popular and well-known.
In this photo here from Frank Sinatra in 1961, along with fellow Rat Packer Dean Martin, you can see elements of his signature style. It's a charcoal single-breasted three-piece suit with a five-button vest that's rather on the short side.
You can see the pants are cut high-waisted. He has a white shirt with an impeccable collar. He's wearing a tie and a pocket square, along with a hat.
Here you can see a dark straw short-brimmed trilby with a wide contrasting ribbon. To learn more about trilbys and hats, check out our playlist here. Note the pleats on his pants and the actual fact that he's wearing opera pumps. At the time, operapumps were popular for men for evening wear, however, not typically for regular suits. But, it was just a style that he liked and so he wore it.
So, if you think back about the well-dressed men from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, chances are you think about actors first and foremost. Not politicians, businessmen, or other important men at the time. Now, one could say, "Wow! That they had such great style, but compared to today, their clothingchoices were a lot more limited."As a man, you basically had to wear a suit.
There wasn't really a way around that.
Sure, you could try wearing jeans and a wife-beater, but that was socially less acceptable for their status and position. At the time, style moved much more slowly. Fashion had been well-curated and coordinated with manufacturers, and materials were a lot more expensive. So, people bought a lot less, less frequently.
But, spent more on individual garment. Fabrics are also heavier so they last longer.
https://iancarterdesigns.com/ian-carter-40-years-hollywood-custom-tailor/
But, the finishing wasn't quite as refined since it is today. That being said, later on, actors like Marlon Brando or James Dean became well-known for their-suit, more casual looks. And also actors like Steve McQueen, who would sometimes wear suits, was also highly regarded for his more casual, rugged personal style.
To learn more about the style of Steve McQueen, have a look at this video here. Steve McQueen'sdesign wasn't complicated. Just look at this photo. He wore a set of khaki pants with somewhite socks and, a set of well-walked-inchukka boots.
His sweater was darker than his crew neck.
He had a lighter shirt and a coat. The only thing missing here is the traditional signature personal sunglasses, which you can learn more about in this video. So, what's the style of the people today? Hollywood is certainly part of the mainstream and pumps out much more films and movies than they used to. In addition, you have places like Amazon and Netflix that also produce a lot of stuff.
With big-budget Hollywood films, Amazon, and Netflix dominating the entertainment mainstream world, how come not more male actors are known for their style? Sure, they're actors like Tom Ford, Ryan Gosling, Jay-Z, Kanye West, George Clooney, and, needless to say, James Bond, Daniel Craig.
It is no longer necessary for an actor to really have this personal style and personal wardrobe. Just think about the Black Tie outfits on the red carpet at the Oscars and how many people fail. Oftentimes, they just wear whatever the stylist pushes because, maybe, it's part of the PR campaign.
Even low-budget productions today have enough money to pay for all the clothes of the individual character and, oftentimes, roles are much more varied and nuanced than they used to be. Most male celebrities today gain moreattention for their good looks or their level of fitness. Daniel Craig, Ryan Gosling, or Brad Pitt are more well-known for what they look like without a shirt on than with a suit.

This current, sort of, obsession with fitness and looks wasn't as pronounced during the heyday of classic men clothing. Also, there's a much bigger emphasis on product placement these days because that may make a lot of money.
Just think of Daniel Craig'sfamous scene in one of the early Bond movies, where he corrects Vesper Lynd on the brand of his watch, Omega not Rolex. [Scene from Casino Royale] [Vesper Lind] Easy smiles and expensive viewes.Rolex? [James Bond] Omega. [Vesper Lynd] Beautiful The influence of streetwear, hype culture, and comfort has really changed just how status and wealth, and style are perceived in the general public eye today.
Old Hollywood may have been more interested to give that flair of upper class, but today, it's more about being bold andgetting true to yourself and just expressing yourself. Even some famous men look down on dressing up. Just think about Mark Cuban or Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, for example. Now, if you look at famous men today in the film industry that are hailed for their style, one of the first names that comes up is George Clooney [The suit-up scene from Batman & Robin] Frankly, in my own mind, he wears more of a uniform and he doesn't have a very interesting personal style.
Typically, he wears a suit that is neither too slim nor too wide with a shirt, without the neckwear, without any pocket square, and matching shoes in black.
Overall, an unexciting outfit. Nevertheless, most people in the mainstream would consider it to be a classic suit look that is timeless and stylish. It's a bit like the old Cary Grant approaching our era. But, because everything around us has changed, it is a lot less nuanced and more boring than it used to be. Now, an actor like Benedict Cumberbatch, however, has a a lot moredistinct personal style.
But, he's also British. You can learn more about him in our in-depth guide gentlemen of style here.
For example, here you can see him at Wimbledon wearing a green suit with rather slim lapels that suit his silhouette, a light blue shirt with a blue knit tie, brown derby shoes, and, of course, sunglasses, and a more relaxed haircut. Even though we appreciate stars who have a knack for classic style, there are other actors, likeMahershala Ali or Timothe Chalamet, who use suits in a different way. Mahershala Ali often likes a monochrome look.
I've seen him wearing tuxedos with a black shirt and a black tie, or he wears a navy suit with peak lapels that's double-breasted but with a turtleneck sweater, and then, maybe, some yellow sunglasses and shoes that are spectators and loafers, which is not something you would have traditionally worn with a double-breasted suit and, then, without socks or no-show socks.
He's not afraid to wear bolder colors such as burgundy suits, for example, with less contrasting shirts. Timothe Chalamet is known for his bold outfits. It can be a suit that's super trim cut with a bold flower print or something else that's just over the very end up beingst. So, the question becomes: "What has changed since then and now?
" In the beginning,it may seem that celebrities in the past were just themselves versus today it's all just about marketing. But, if you take a closer, look you see that, even in old Hollywood, they had their ways to protect the reputation of actors. Back then it was important for the studios that their contract actors and performers had a squeaky clean reputation because other things was bad for business. This aspect of Hollywood is pretty well-covered in the Coen Brothers' "Hail, Caesar!" [Scene from Hail, Caesar!
] It was so simple. [stuttering] Cut. Because of that, studios and record labels pay top dollar to make instances simply disappear.
Clark Gable and Mary Pickford are certainly the most infamous cases for that. Today, exposing scandals is just portion of the game of show business.
There's even a whole industry of bloggers and influencers who do nothing but highlighting those things. As a lover of classic style, it's much harder to find role models in Hollywood today. Fortunately, there are a lot of period productions that pay great attention to the clothing worn at the time. I'm sure many of us gonna do classicmenswear by watching Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Peaky Blinders, Downton Abbey, etc,or simply think about Kingsmen, for instance.
They created an entire range of clothing.
And even though we disagree with many details in the movie, it definitely helped to create an interest in mainstream men in classic men's clothing and that's a good thing. By the way, to learn more about Kingsmen and the details, check out these videos here. Now, another big difference between then and now is the fact that men are a lot more free to choose whatever they want when it comes to clopoint.
Back then, you could wear a suit, maybe a slightly different color, and your tie could maybe be different. But, today, it is possible to truly wear whatever you feel comfortable with and express yourself through your clothes.
We believe that's a good thing and with the internet, it is becoming easier than ever to find like-minded peers at another end of the world that you can nerd out with about the facts of your particular style interests. Within the last ten years, there's been an increasingly large number of influencers, Youtubers, and lately, TikTokers who help keep classic style alive. Maybe you're even watching one right now. And while you can't depfinish on Hollywood giving you great examples of classic style, you can bet we always will.

Notable Designs, Then as opposed to. Today (Hollywood's Menswear Heritage)
Let's observe how men's style andstyle icons transformed over time, and what effect movie stars had on basic menswear, and if that impact is as solid since it was previously. Before we compare the movie stars of days gone by to the men on the red carpet these days and how they impact classic style, let's go to a timewhen the silver screen wasn't even imaginable.
The people in church back then would even go so far to utilize the legal systems to create hierarchies that kept everyone in their place.
That, of course, also extended to fashion and certain people could wear certain things and others couldn't. And by wearing one thing, you're communicating one issue. And it had a hugely profound impact on society. For example, some Roman emperors would forbid their nonroyal subjects to wear the color purple under penalty of death.Discuss having a fashion police there.
[ba dum tss] In many European countries, there were some sure laws not allowing certain people to wear things and others had been forced to put on things.
Needless to say, the fact that it was forbidden was ingrained even more in Scottish culture. Without this act, chances are we wouldn't be able to enjoy tartans and highland dresses today. At one point in time, rich fabrics like silk or velvet or urban fur were reserved for top of the class of society.
Now, once nifty businessmen and members, who were not part of the aristocracy, found methods to also wear these expensive fabrics and furs, the upper class had to come up with something else to distinguish themselves from the non-blue-blooded counterparts. So, in the 19th century, the rich opulence that previously characterized the aristocracy now had to make method for much simpler clothing.
While that shift might appear like it had been in line with the general ideas and principles of enlightenment, that wasn't quite true. Hierarchies weren't abolished, they just shifted toward rules of elegance. The guidelines on what towear and what never to wear were closely guardedamong the aristocracy.
And so, if you weren't part of that, you simply didn't know very well what made you part of the group. Rather than just displaying bold colors and rich fabrics, fit became much more important and the little details of correctness could decide about one's thereforecial fate.
This concept is now also called "sprezzatura" and if you intend to find out about it, we have an entire video about it here. As society moved away from feudalwill bem and monarchies, towards a fresh vision of democracy, and things changed.
Now, entertainers had an increasingly bigger sway on what people on the streets would emulate. Also it didn't matter if they got a high pedigree or if they came from humble beginnings.Along with the cultural evolution, the views around consumerism and traditional style shifted once more.
The cultural andindustry ways of how celebrities are portrayed, how they're marketed are usually somewhat different, but at the same time, you can find similarities to how things were during the golden age of menswear in the 1930s. So, what was the style of famous men back then? Unlike musicians, businessmen, or statesmen before them, movie star actors were seen almost on a daily basis, be it on the big screen or in the newspapers. So, because these actors were seen more regularly, people just felt they knew them better and they became bigger stars.
Interestingly, the stars of the 20s such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, or Fatty Arbuckle often dressed poorly on camera for a comedic effect.
Today, mocking homeless or poor people and their clothing choices on screen is not considered to be gentlemanly behavior, especially not whether it's done for entertainment purposes. On a side note, actors wear sunglasses in between takes to prevent their eyes from getting all that harsh light. Now, people caught to that and started wearing sunglasses to add a touch of glamour to their own, sometimes not as glamorous, lives. Soon, identified men's figures, like Rudolph Valentino, would pop-up playing heartthrobs and gaining mainstream acceptance and significance.
Even though film has been developing into a mainstream medium for entertainment, small studios like RKO or Warner Brothers had somewhat tight and limited budgets.
This often meant that especially male actors were expected to supply their own wardrobe, which was useful for filming. And this just implies that the needs were a lot more simple at that time.
However, that also means that these actors actually had their very own style. They would probably get custom clothing that fit them well and just spoke with their character. Now, this wasn't just true for C-list or B-list actors, but furthermore for the stars at the time.
Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, and Fred Astaire would often wear their very own clothing in contemporary productions. Obviously, one of the key differences was that actors were expected to build their very own brand while on and off-camera. As such, one's style and the clothing one would wear became a big part of what an actor had to understand and master. So, even off the job, Clark Gable acquired been known for his formal wearand his double-breasted suits, as well asthree-piece single-breasted suits.
The jackets also had shoulder padding and some waist suppressions and he'd always wear a tie and a pocket square. Cary Grant, who bought a large number of suits throughout his career, openly admitted that he didn't choose fashionable suits, but more middle-of-the-fashion stuff and he never considered himself to be well-dressed, while people looking back today think about him as this timeless style icon.
Choosing a lapel that has been neither too slim nor too wide and being very much middle of fashion is probably the secret to why his stuff still looks wearable today and timeless. Here you can see him with a three-piece suit in mid-gray flannel with a darker overcoat and a white shirt, shoes, and hat.
Nothing special, nothing fancy, but just very classic. At the time also, many musicians transitioned into film via musicals because they were quite profitable. So, consequent singers like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, or Louis Armstrong became much more popular and well-known.
In this photo here from Frank Sinatra in 1961, along with fellow Rat Packer Dean Martin, you can view elements of his signature style.
At the time, operapumps were popular for men for evening wear, but not typically for regular suits. But, it was just a style that he liked and so he wore it.
So, if you think back about the well-dressed men from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, chances are you think of actors first and foremost. Not politicians, businessmen, or other important men at the time. Now, one could say, "Wow! They had such great style, but in comparison to today, their clothingchoices were much more limited."As a man, you basically had to wear a suit.
There wasn't really a way around that.
Sure, you could try wearing jeans and a wife-beater, but that was socially less acceptable for their status and position. At the time, style moved a lot more slowly. Fashion has been well-curated and coordinated with manufacturers, and materials were much more expensive.
That being said, later on, actors like Marlon Brando or James Dean became famous for their-suit, more casual looks. And also actors like Steve McQueen, who would sometimes wear suits, was also highly regarded for his more informal, rugged personal style.
To learn more about the style of Steve McQueen, check out this video here. Steve McQueen'sstyle wasn't complicated. Just look at this photo. He wore a set of khaki pants with somewhite socks and, a pair of well-walked-inchukka boots.
In addition, you have places like Amazon and Netflix that also produce a large amount of stuff.
