There's something really fascinating about how Athena treats Diomedes so differently from how treats Penelope and Odysseus (even Telemachus but that's a lil different too)

Athena has basically known Diomedes since he was born (some even say that she had a say in naming him) because of Tydeus. I don't think it's far-fetched to say that in a way, she possibly "molded" him. And Diomedes is kind of known for being the "perfect warrior king". He's respectful of the gods and most of his comrades, an incredibly skilled soldier, and has already achieved so many things despite being one of the youngest kings in the war.

I sadly think that's why Athena treats him so differently than Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus.

She cares for him, but it's still "distant" in a way. Or almost in an "I molded you. You will react the way I would want you to therefore I will not be surprised."

When it seems like she's known her other favored mortals for less long, she didn't get to "mold" them. They surprise and bring something "new" for her. She sees her little tricksters' scheme and plot and watches with intrigue but watching the perfect warrior is a "Yes, perfect form. That's what I'd do."

I mean even how her favored mortals pray to her tells you a lot about the relationships they have.

For example, in the Iliad, Odysseus doesn't need to really give as much reverence to her to "earn her favor" during book 10's Night Raid.

There was huge stomp coming from the living room, more likely Soobin. One he still thinks he beats Beomgyu and second immediately when Beomgyu said that. Yeonjun immediately ran to the living room and pushed soobin away giving beomgyu the biggest hug. Soobin wasn’t happy, so he started having a tantrum…ah I mean an adult meltdown.

Yet, as the memories of the past 23 years flooded through her, she felt herself shake her head and pull away. Holding Liliana closer to her as she stepped closer to Tahariel. She couldn’t…she couldn’t be separated from him. Not now. Not when she and her children were so close to being free. He was finally getting them away! “Let us go…just let us finally go, please…” There’s a rustling noise as Allisae pushes a piece of paper to his chest. “Just…take that for me. There’s more in the library. Bring it all to Edmund. Whatever my father is planning, please make sure it’s stopped.” She is free. Her babies are free. But everyone else…Souji and Avelan…Nero, Edmund…Riliane…they need that chance. “Make sure everyone’s okay…”

"Wait, Allisae...! What are you doing, Alli please!"

As she shoved the paper at him and pulled herself from his grip, Jai found himself reaching out to her. Trying desperately to grab her hand again before Tahariel noticed them and attacked.

...Unfortunately, that was exactly what happened, and before he could withdraw his hand again, a searing pain caught it, instead. One that shot up his arm with the force of the impact, and tore a sharp hiss of pain from him.

What was going on? First Wrenn, destroying the charm that would have prevented this whole fight to begin by rendering those in its vicinity unconscious.

Wrenn and three of Baphomet's children (though in their case, they only seemed to be looking to protect Wrenn from any harm) trying to fight off Ysael and Enoch, alongside Tahariel.

And now Allisae was refusing to go with him?

Jai's teeth grit together tight, dodging and blocking Tahariel's near constant barrage of attacks as they came. He could tell just from the few glances he was able to spare in Allisae's direction that-- amidst all the chaos of the fight, and the escape...of Chercia already having been hurt, and Lily being so close to the danger-- that there would be little he could do to convince her to change her mind in that moment.

Not when she likely believed this to be her best chance at finally getting she and the kids free of the Aegis. Of her father, and Tristan.

He was the one that had failed to convince her over the years that he was going to protect them. He was the one that had-- despite having access to the Aegis on multiple occasions-- failed to come up with a way to get them out of there himself.

There was no point in continuing this fight, right now. The only thing that it would accomplish was putting everyone in further danger. Enoch had gotten Chercia and Jinx away from the group. They were now with Ysael, moving away from the danger. He had also managed to get both Qamis and Simni to stand down.

For now, that was likely to be all they could safely manage...and so, Jai disengaged. Putting enough distance between himself and Tahariel that the cursed Ahniri took his opportunity to call to Wrenn, and take Allisae and Lily into his arms once more.

"...I will." His eyes stung, but he kept the tears that threatened to well up at bay. Forced the weakness from his voice as he raised it to call to her now retreating form. "I'll keep them safe! I promise, I will!"

He wanted to yell that he would find her soon, that he would get her back...but he couldn't risk it. Just because the battle was over here, that didn't mean that she wasn't still in danger from Tahariel. Even this was likely to anger him-- to make him think that Allisae was going to run off, or that she was working with Jai.

Jai didn't want to think about what Tahariel might do to her, Lily, and Wrenn if he started to think that.

It felt like the breath had been knocked out of his lungs. It was a selfish thought, but in the moment, he couldn't shake it from his mind...the thought that he had failed her. Failed Avelan.

Amber eyes slip closed, and a deep breath is drawn in through his nose, before pushing out past his lips. His right arm cradled gingerly in his opposite hand.

There was no time to dwell in self-loathing right now. He had to get everyone back to Ahnia, the sooner, the better. Then he could start working on the planning that needed to be done.

"Enoch. Take Simni and Qamis to Baphomet-- Ysael and I can get Chercia and Jinx home."

The Pirodeti didn't seem entirely pleased with that plan, but he didn't argue. Instead, he simply told Ysa to send Ouza out to meet them. Stern gaze them turning to the two Dresiae, who shrank a bit under the weight of it. He didn't need to say anything; only nodded back in the direction the group had come, and they followed obediently after him.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - AMAZING cast of characters and fun gameplay I didn’t want to stop playing, great plot I will be thinking about forever…

Bugsnax - very funny and cute and I loved catching every bugsnax and the fun characters I want to play the 2nd one when it comes out

Psyconauts - a cult classic for a reason. Loved it’s style but the final level is so bad I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. Looking forward to finishing 2 one day

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - I haven’t gotten to finish this one yet (I got 80 hours in okay??) but I’m incredibly excited to get back to it. GOTY BABY!!! GAME OF ALL TIME!!

Nier Automata - ALSO THE GAME OF ALL TIME this is a must play it broke me it healed me it made me see the beauty of art and story telling that games are capable of it’s really just fantastic. for the love of god do not stop after ending A. Love this game so much.

Horimiya - CUTE I love romance where you get to follow them as a couple <3 there were a few bad spots in it (miyamura's piercings being compared to self harm in that one chapter.......???????) but over all a good read

Astra: Lost in Space - fun scifi adventure with good characters. pretty short and easy read. its fun

You Got Me, Senpai - SO CUTE one of the best relationships I've read in a manga. adorable.

Dance Dance Danseur - did not like the MC but I did like the FMC and Rival character, good animation. I read the authors shoujo title Drowning Love this year and it should've gotten the adaptation TBH but this was fine, last few episodes carried

Freyja's a very badass warrior chick, and Apollo is great in a fight too, but both of them also have a peaceful, emotional side (Freyja crying tears of blood and gold everytime her husband Odr leaves, Apollo remembering many of his lovers with beautiful flowers).. idk.. i think it could work.

on to friendships :))))))))))))

obviously guy scouts, the tricksters, fite club, queen club go without saying, but i've already discussed them before (see: miscellaneous hc's) so i wont bring them up again.

Demeter & Freyr

an easy one to think about... both of them are gods of the harvest, i think they would have a lot in common and they'd bond over farming techniques, etc.

Demeter's a little more quick-tempered than Freyr i think.. but i think Freyr's generally-calm exterior would make them quick friends.

ATHENA & THOR

capital letters because this one makes me excited!!!!

we know that Athena is one of the strongest warriors in Olympus, and equipped with the aegis, she's pretty terrifying. similarly, Thor is also easily the powerhouse of Asgard, and equipped with mjolnir, he's insanely strong..

so i love the idea of Athena and Thor sparring together and pushing each other to become greater warriors than they already are.

Apep & Veles

this one's kinda strange, and no doubt obscure.. it's something i made up for a myth-story i was writing, but i really like the idea of it.

unlike most of the trickster/bad guy kind of gods in myth who do bad things for a) the fun of it, or b) for revenge, i like the idea that Apep and Veles have an awareness of how necessary their existence is to balance the world, i.e. you can't have a world with only good, or only bad, both must exist.

my hc is that Apep hangs around with the tricksters sometimes, but doesn't think all that much of them because he perceives them to be petty and arrogant... but Veles, who is somehow both friends and arch-enemies with his rival Perun, doesn't really act that way, and because he's so much younger than Apep, Apep kinda adopts him as his little bad-guy-in-training, almost a mirror of the way Ra adopts Set.

idk.. i think it's cute but idk if this made sense LOL

Ra, Helios & Sol

i mean. they're all personifications of the Sun, it feels like this goes without saying.

where Ra was just kinda born the moment the Earth was, Helios and Sol came much after that time, and we know Ra has a penchant for adopting younger gods hee hee, so i like the idea of Ra being a sort-of mentor for Helios & Sol that blossoms into a close-knit friendship...

Ra and Helios both strike me as flamboyant, dramatic guys, so they're natural friends... Sol is quieter i think, but she can be very outgoing when she wants to be ^-^

Hel & Hades

i like the idea that Hel comes to Asgard as a child, and actually becomes the ruler of Helheim while still a child.. so she's not really an expert on being a queen or ruling anything, etc.

but Hades has his own daughter, Macaria, who i imagine to be a bit mischievous and likes to cross the borders of the Underworld on her own and go exploring... so i hc that Macaria and Hel are very good friends, Hel being only slightly older than Macaria.

as a result, i think Hades sees quite a bit of Hel... personally, i don't imagine Loki taking up much of a fatherly role, but i hc that Hades looks out for Hel as he would his own daughter, and guides her and gives her advice and stuff.

Anubis also has a daughter, Kebechet, who i imagine forms a little trio of death gods with Macaria and Hel, but i wont talk about that ehehehehehe

Oh, definitely !

Birdie's is specially developped, while Seteth'n'Rhea's was toned down because they had to live with humans, and humans can be... very smelly.

(Or, human cities and human activites have all kind of strong odors someone straight out of Zanado cannot support, unless they have some time to adapt - Macuil suffered a lot but managed to push through - actually using wind magic to get rid of the unpleasant odors).

I also have the HC that Nabateans associate an emotion to a scent, or a concept. Cichol's wife can smell "joyful" or "bubbly", but Vestra I smelt "ghastly".

Young Nabateans - and hybrids - often imprint on a particular scent, Seteth will never forget how Flayn refused to sleep if he didn't carry her when she was a baby, and when it was impossible, he often left her with one of his belongings (a scarf, a shirt, a blanket...).

Trauma-ridden Rhea, after Zando, lost all of her marks and was afraid of the human world Seiros the Warrior was supposed to blend it, Wilhelm gave her one of his old pallium when she tried to find something to wear on her head, just in case the wind blows and her ears become apparent - the pallium, thus Willy's scent, became associated to "soothing" and somewhere "safe".

When Flayn first woke up, the thing that she immediately missed was her mother's scent - nowhere to find on her, or on her father. Even her past belongings lost it, meaning that effectively, her mother ceased to exist.

Relics smell to any Nabateans, even the ones who don't know what they are, horrible, like corruption and death. The smell is unpleasant, and while Seiros the Warrior hug the Sword of the Creator, it was thing done "in the spur of the moment" while Rhea craved Sothis's scent - Nemesis was finally done, so Sothis could return again, right? This thing smells like her (no it doesn't, this thing isn't Sothis). Let's say Rhea tolerates the smell, consciously or not, because this is the only thing left of Sothis, and her last hope to recover Sothis, all her family and a peaceful Fodlan.

(the other saints cannot support it, Flayn nearly threw up when Felix protected her with the Aegis Shield, and the BL in general note how she is always pale whenever they use their relics near her).

Constance doesn't have the same feeling of visceral revulsion at the sight of a relic - even if she is far removed from her Nabatean ancestor Noa, she has a stronger sense of smell than a random dude, like even base!Constance who never set foot in a forest to hunt like Petra or Leonie can smell a rabbit 3 meters away - but it makes her uncomfortable and she prefers to avoid them, for reasons she cannot explain.

Comes the idiot plot ball with the twin crested people - the nabateans should be able to smell something wrong with them, but since they tuned down their abilities (or neutralised it?) because living with humans is complicated - especially when melting Gautier Cheese is involved (Seiros the Warrior nearly passed out when Willy showed her a jar of garum) - Edel puts a ton of perfume to hide the scent from the lizards, while Lysithea prefered to avoid people of the Church to hide her secret, and since neither Rhea or Seteth or even Flayn came in close contact with her, her secret was kept hidden.

Send me ✨ for a random thing about one of my OCs! (Optional: You can specify one!) - ..You know what, you said you wanted to hear more about Ruby (thank you for saying that, by the way!!), so, how about I use these to talk about her more like I said I would?~

Ruby is.. sort of like a Blade and also not at the same time, courtesy of how Pyra is one of the Aegis Blades while Sapphire is technically human but also inadvertently a Blade Eater (albeit that's not part of Sapphire's genetics, so it wouldn't have passed down to Ruby). I think she would be able to heal from injuries fairly easily like Blades do, and maybe also get ether lines when she gets excited about things, and possibly be able to summon a weapon or draw on elemental ether if she practiced enough? But, she doesn't have a Core Crystal or need a Driver or anything, and she probably ages like a human would (at least initially). She also has a lot of Gormotti features, since Sapphire is Gormotti. So, in the end.. it's probably easier to just say that she's Ruby =P

Speaking of weapons.. Ruby ends up being pretty good at wielding weapons even from quite a young age, courtesy of Sapphire and the Garfont Mercenaries. Sapphire's own childhood largely consisted of the mercs all teaching her how to do stuff she was probably too young for (like how to wield a knife), so while Ruby's own training would probably be a lot more organised (maybe she could practice things with Poppi?), you could say that having that proficiency is something of a family tradition, hahaha

And, speaking of Poppi, she and Ruby are very close!! They definitely see themselves as sisters, and spend a lot of time playing together. Ruby is also very friendly with Ursula, but due to her having a much shyer personality compared to Ruby's more rough-and-tumble one, the two of them aren't quite as close by comparison. Not by much, though - especially since Ruby is super supportive of all of Ursula's musical endeavours, which Ursula really appreciates!!

..Okay, this last thing is technically spoilers, specifically for XC3 rather than XC2. It also explains the process of how Ruby comes into existence. Therefore, it's going under the readmore. However, so as not to make people feel they have to read that.. those people's fourth sparkle fact can be that Vandham definitely cried a lot when meeting Ruby for the first time. He was also the first one to meet her.

Okay, now for the "actual" fourth sparkle fact:

So, you may be wondering what I meant when I said in my tags that "I hesitate to specifically call her a fankid because in some ways the game actually made her up before I did", if you spotted that. This is because, well.. Ruby is my way of taking what's in That One Image From The End Of XC3(TM) that you mentioned and making it something I'm much more comfortable with the idea of.

Long story short.. the babies seen in The Image(TM) are not Rex's. He is standing front and centre of the picture purely because it's being taken in Leftheria. They could well be Mythra's, Pyra's, and Nia's respectively, if you want them to be (and in my version of events the one Pyra's holding is Pyra's), but regardless of whose they are.. All of those three are Blades, and exceptionally powerful ones as well - Pyra and Mythra could well be called demigods of their world, for example.
