Barriss-centric story where the 41st and the 501st get paired together for the duration of the war. Barriss gets close with Ahsoka on her (ahsoka's) breaks back at the Temple early in the war, and then eventually goes out and joins the 41st as the war gets worse. She kinda figures that if she can't keep saving people the right way back at the temple, maybe she can at least keep Ahsoka safe. There's pining, there's a teenage love story, there's some 'teetering on the brink of total self destruction as the war slowly degrades her sense of self,' there's a whole lot of 'trying to tell your mom that you are this close to killing yourself and she's just not getting it'.

Meanwhile Luminara is scrambling to deal with this entire situation and the growing sense of dread it inspires. She and Anakin are pretty successful together but holy shit. There is so much wrong with this kid what the actual fuck. Anakin tries to talk to her about Barriss except he offhandedly mentions the chancellor thing in the process and no no no go back what do you mean the chancellor involved you in private senate matters as a teenager.

In the old guard au, who are the other immortals? Is it the Jedi Council? The Disaster and Shatterpoint lineages? Yoda’s just been around since the beginning of humanity, but he was already older when he became immortal and now he just leans into it. And maybe for a long time it was just, like, him and Dooku until the young'uns started showing up?

Hm I’m gonna say it’s mace, aayla, dooku (currently not traveling with them, may be evil now no one’s checked in a while), obi-wan, and Ahsoka. Now anakin.

Qui-Gon very recently died his last death. Absolutely devastating for obi-wan and dooku, neither are over it. Yoda passed a hundred or so years ago peacefully. He just started aging one day. Meanwhile qui-gon was hit in a fight and stayed down so it was all very sudden. Dooku left them soon after. Obi-Wan really thought about it, so Ahsoka worked with mace to get them a nice easy undercover mission where obi-wan could grieve and talk to god for a bit while the others did more useful things. He falls in love with anakin instead.

the way people on tik tok are talking about the ballad of songbirds and snakes is actually embarrassing like they have no media literacy whatsoever

people are literally saying that if you like Snow as a character you’re a bad person as if that isn’t the entire point of the book

like we read the book from Snows point of view, he’s written to be charismatic and interesting so that the readers can relate to and understand his point of view. that’s what makes it even more frustrating and upsetting when we see how bad a person he becomes

if you go into it seeing him as a bad person, then that makes it way less emotionally engaging because you’re EXPECTING him to be a bad person, that means that every bad thing he does doesn’t carry any impact

it also just takes away from the character development for everyone else!! like they’re essentially saying that people are either good or evil and you can’t have any grey. which then means that the ‘good’ characters haven’t had to work at being good. it means that the characters who are being killed for sport who choose to stay kind, to stay good, haven’t actually done that because hey worked at it, but just because they were born good?? when in reality you can look at how Snow was raised in an environment where yes he was poor but he was privileged and told he was special because of where he lived - which is what makes him a bad person in the end - he thinks he’s better than people in the districts

it just takes away any real life lessons you can learn from the books like the fact that class inequality can impact how people can empathise with each other, or the way you could look at the capital vs the districts as a metaphor for racism, seeing Snows privilege from being raised in the capital as white privilege because although he was poor after the war, he was still from the capital so he can’t fully understand what the tributes from the districts felt, he thinks he can understand their hardships because he was also poor as if that’s all there is to it

it’s like these people think the only characters you can enjoy and the most pure, ethical characters, and anyone who enjoys reading about complex villains are themselves bad people.l

anyway i have lots of feelings about the hunger games and how people on tik tok are reducing it to the most basic tropes when it is so much more than that, and suzanne collins is a way more interesting author than they’re giving her credit for and i feel like i haven’t explained myself well AT ALL but i care about this so much i just had to vent

Eldritch Clone Troopers but Not All of Them

Like the Kaminoans didn't start whatever weird thing they did that resulted in Eldritch troopers (what were they trying to do? I don't know. The troopers don't know. That Kaminoans know and this was NOT it) until after they've got a few batches underway and it never really affects the oldest troopers.

So you've got the CT's who are all eldritch horrors masking as Jango Fett, the CC's may be normal or may also be eldritch, and the Alpha class troopers who are normal. (I have not read the comics, this is my understanding of the trooper age order from fics and those sound like the canon timeline may be odd so. Basically the older troopers are not eldritch and the many many younger ones are.)

This does absolutely nothing to change the fact that the Alpha class troopers and possibly the CC's have all decided that these scary feral CTs are their baby brothers. Absolutely nothing. It also does nothing to change the fact that all the eldritch troopers see them as their gruff older brothers who make them do extra laps when they mouth off to them and sneak them candy when they mouth off to the trainers, who make sure they're meeting all the requirements and teach them their own tricks for hiding inefficiencies, who'll scold them ten ways from sunday for messy armor but also help them through panic attacks.

Picture if you will Alpha-Seventeen lecturing Rex for something insane that somehow worked and then sending him off to do 10 laps around the hanger or something and Obi-Wan's staring because he just saw this short scowly guy who looks like Jango Fett lecture this 6-ft blond with three rows of teeth and a shadow as blue as his armor and then Seventeen turns to him and is like "What? He's a little shit."

I find this very funny.

One: It’s Karen Traviss, with two S’s at the end. If you’re going to put a writer up on a (imho completely undeserved) pedestal, you might as well spell her damn name right.

Two: Karen Traviss was not driven out of Lucasfilm. She quit, because George Lucas decided to take Mandalorian culture and clone culture in a different direction that what she’d written in her novels and she was throwing a tantrum to try and change his mind.

Three: Mary Suetopia is such an antiquated term that TvTropes merged its page under plain Utopia years ago.

Four: AllTheTropes still has a Mary Suetopia page, and notably, the Jedi Order is not on it, but Traviss’s Mandalorian society is. This is because the Jedi Order does have a few flaws that make it feel like a natural, interesting society in Lucas’s films, while Traviss makes her Mandalorian culture so perfect, upstanding, and idealistic that it becomes uninteresting. And aren’t you the one who’s always blathering about perfect, heroic characters being uninteresting, Domina?

Five: And on that note, aren’t you the one calling yourself a Lucas purist on your Ao3 account? That would be as utterly nonsensical as if I were to say, “oh, I’m a Tolkien purist and I think Rings of Power is the most faithful adaptation I’ve ever seen of the Silmarillion, which I have totally read and understood.” Karen Traviss is not George Lucas; saying that her stories supersede George’s canonical vision necessarily makes you not a Star Wars purist.

I'm gonna be real even though Bendu calls Ahsoka "former Jedi Knight" in their conversation in that one Filoni tweet I don't get why people are acting like he actually officially knighted her or whatever. Like it's not like he Officially Declares Her A Jedi Knight cause the conversation they're having has nothing to do with that. I always just took it as him being formal with her or whatever.
