So i really felt like doing the @lostcompanyofficial dtiys, but i was slightly busy prior and knew i wouldn’t finish it for the due date BUT

Blink Twice is an encapsulation of dubiousness to me, not only in the thinking it inspires, but in the layers you’re left grappling with, and then the inferences one has to resonate with after that.

and nothing evidences that more than the intangible nature of the disturbing angle to me, as its muddied in the layers of complication and nuance that lurk beneath. i mean the movie itself paints over the tragedies with cynicism, is entirely dedicated to weaponizing intuition and comfort against you.

i’d never read it as disturbed, and it too, never lets you mourn in turn. bc its insane at its inception, warped by frida’s fanatical infatuation with slater, bordering preying, a reverence for one's kill. and lures us with psychedelic, sugary visuals, with the indulgence – on food, luxury, substances. on billionaire brainrot fodder, perpetuating their power, craving proximity. inviting it into our homes, our heads. the movie *wants* you, most of all, to understand frida’s hunger. and its that thirst i most resonate with, not for a lack of empathy, or even technical prowess, but the basal intrigue it cemented in me instead.

bc it’s a movie that’s nearly primal for me. it scents cycles and desensitization, roles and autonomy, a self-infliction of decay, and disorients you before you’re allowed a proper lungful. there are only questions. shifts. a russian doll of detail and poison, and the inviolability that invoked, ironically only ever paralyzed my thinking, serving creative rot, over any epiphanies or nuance i could hope to be enlightened to.

the animalistic cruelty of desire is not there to be contextualized, but understood. felt. a relationship as inextricable as frida and slater’s. with slater likely parasitizing her algorithm, wielding his techbro power to further entrap her. like how we routinely indulge in the same. you rewind the movie, and pick out signs of danger, slater snickering at frida praising her memory, the supposed water he drinks and its snake-venom hue, the recurring jingling of a necklace, and like frida, have the fantasy demystified, wonder how there was *ever* an illusion of safety.

so watching an analysis video which posits that slater smokes the venom, that he indulges all suffering except his own, just as frida remembers the doctor’s blinks of warning, while burying the suffering they foresee, that they have seen, is watching frida emulate slater, and slater her.

it’s the movie’s thesis statement: there is no healing, there is no forgiveness, only embrace, only numbness, apathy. and when a stray tear glistens on slater’s face, he mourns not for the men, for paternalistic, patriarchal dominance, but for his friend. the only one he claims. he mourns their intimacy, their unity — grieves the good time™. a good time unattainable within trauma, within memory.

yet this pleasure, love, are perverted into captivity, and all i ended up thinking of was: “i love you means you’re never ever, ever getting rid of me.” that slater thinks he knows best, thinks he’s doing good by unburdening her, yet scars her all the same.

as bodies are made immaterial to him, dispossessed of sanctity or autonomy and so their desecration harmless. as slater makes frida a conduit for physical harm while lavishing her emotionally, and yet also exploiting their bond, feeding on their closeness for the labor of love and pain it provides. bc the one thing he needs, the one thing he cannot sacrifice, is her closeness, her intimacy, as it validates his ethos of forgetfulness, reflects it back at him. thusly, frida is reduced to a vessel of experience just as he was, just as he reduces himself to, oversaturated in good times™.

good times masquerading as truth, which slater exposes a latent contempt for, as he emasculates the remaining boy for his cowardice, his complacency, despite his glaringly disoriented, unaware state. regardless of any violation he too may have suffered, when we’d seen him scooting away from another man on the ground, enfeebled and vulnerated. in spite of slater’s aggrievement by his own lapses in memory, his own embracing of that which violated him, and violated also, those he cares abt. but slater is relieved of any loneliness by this flagelattory camaraderie, of the perpetual loss of significance, when frida remains a fixture in his suffering, when she constantly violates her boundaries too.

and we too strain our boundaries, test our empathy with the narratives we are inclined to accept. frida the girlboss or frida the fallen angel? akin to the tests slater sets for her, handing her clarity just to see what she dares remember. the good time™, the willing participant, the indulged, or the languished? seeing if she’s really forgiven, or rather, forgotten instead, drawn to indulgence despite how its hurt her. when she endangers jess in turn, desperate to feel valued, to *feel* power — in it all, is the powerstruggle.

and yet, also a relationship, as jess protects frida despite it all, and frida wakes up to the deception bc of her love for jess. while the island, the staff, embrace frida as if she has always been, will find her way around just as she will find a way to enlightenment, handed venom as if it were benign, as if the island itself wanted her freed. pests, predators, turned to salvation, just as poison becomes a cure. the cure. and when the island has been said to be the garden of eden, enlightenment is truly then, the original sin. the genesis of awareness.

and thusly, frida reclaims power by hurting him, fed his own poison. frida now the snake, frida refusing to leave the island still. denied healing, alienated from it, and so stuck still. bound. bound too, as we watched them enjoy every intimacy except the physical, sharing the pain and trauma they’d been subjected to with a nearly ironic a-sexuality, transcendent of it. with slater seeing her as his best friend. exempt from death and equally so from release.

and that twisted, appropriative bond, the repurposing of trauma, and so feeling a sick sense of ownership over it, love for it, are equally present in frida keeping him from death.

her newfound, bleach white luxury, the disappearing stains and panopticon of elitism, are not horrific until they are, and you either embrace it, or you let it hurt. and frida, red rabbit running, red rabbit caught in slater’s sick, trivializing game, already likened to livestock by her name, decided to become the hunter instead. made high on the chase.

unlike slater who provides and subjects experiences onto others, now there is frida who takes and caters experiences for herself. all congratulatory. all good.

thusly, the movie is the trip, it’s delusion and entanglement and the self-eating snake, and trying to sterilize that is as futile as it is sacrilegious.

Three Caballeros scene near the finale. I hope whoever the 1944 art director was knew that they permanently imprinted surrealism inside my 3 yr old brain...

I'm still blown away by it's bold use of animated color. This segment in particular is massively influenced by the Mexican surrealist movement that started in the 1920s I think.

Can you believe a 20 year old show got another chance to see the light of day and got another whole TWO seasons?!? Although the reboot wasn’t perfect, we got so many new great characters that quickly became our favorites, like Confucius, Topher, Frida, and Harriet. Not to mention the awesome new side characters! The reboot brought new fans, a resurgence of fanart, fanfiction, edits, and more. Although I’m sad the show ended on a scary cliffhanger, I’m sure we all know how the show would have handled it if it did continue haha

WE HAD OUR FIRST “date” which I didn’t realise was one. After talking on Snapchat and exchanging memes we went to the store to just recycle empty bottles and cans then he came back to my place. We only sat in the sofa talking while watching The Office Christmas episodes.

(I forgot to mention, but he earlier came with food for me when he was driving from work)

And I swear the hours went by so fast. He loved my lord of the rings shelf and merchandise. We didn’t do anything like cuddle or kissing, not until he’s about to leave (I have early shift tomorrow at work) then we kissed.

Also he works 14/14 so he stays in my town for fourteen days then at his hometown in Poland for 14 days. So I won’t see him until next year. But yeah, kinda excited.

you are actually dead on, literally when i started including jenny and manny i thought of pairing dannymanny as a funny haha jab at jimmytimmy, like wow their nicknames happen to rhyme too lol!!! then i started noticing they have a few similarities with the obvious being they both started off as teen heroes with green themed powers, their eyes turn green in their alter egos, they both have a powerful shout-based power (ghostly wail vs tigre roar)(at least manny WOULD HAVE ONE IF HE ACTUALLY LEARNED THE ROAR BUT ALAS THE SHOW ONLY LASTED 1 SEASON i will just assume he does get it eventually when he grows up). and this one is a bit funny more than anything but both Sam and Frida, the main female leads of the show, are voiced by Grey DeLisle lol

then it moved onto seeing how they contrast with eachother too, because they got the fire and ice dynamic going on, literally because manny's abilities have a fire theme while danny's got his ice core. they also contrast with their openness about their identity (danny's was kept secret, while manny being el tigre was public knowledge)

Hi! So. I’ve been reading your Sep Au, (IVE BEEN FANNING OVER IT LIKE CRAZY YOU HAVE NO IDEA, ahem) and have a bit of a small question. (Side note, this is sort of a ramble of possibilities and questions so bare with me 😅)

Big Mama. Does she ever interact with Draxum or the turtles? (Not including Donnie yet haha) Knowing her and Draxum, they don’t really get along, BUT she might have made a deal at some point with Draxum and let’s say he might’ve sent the boys to collect it at some point or just overall do her a favor or something like that, what do they think of her?

Do they hate her or have mutual respect for what she does? I mean it is said that she doesn’t really like humans as much and she does run a pretty successful business with her Battle Nexus.

Speaking of Big Mama too, Venus.

Do the boys ever end up meeting her early on with Draxum? Or is it similar to the canon version of how they met. (The recent comic)

So Draxum is very aware that Big Mama can and will kidnap his sons and put them in the Battle Nexus if she gets the chance considering how capable fighters they are. And GOD FORBID she finds out that they're related to LOU JITSU, that's just asking for trouble! Point is, Draxum makes sure to keep the turtles far away from her because he knows how dangerous she can be. They do, on occasion, conduct some business (like with that mystic train in the season 1 finale) so it's possible the turtles have met Big Mama on those occasions. But Draxum never sends them to do any business with her on their own, he's always the one doing the negotiating and the turtles will at most only accompany him.

Big Mama is essentially a mafia boss, and she's well known to be manipulative and shady, so the turtles don't exactly have the highest opinion of her. They don't hate her really, but they also don't like her. They definitely don't trust her.

But when it comes to the secret siblings, I was never planning on including them in the AU, and as excited as the Big Mama's Assistant face-reveal made me, I'm not planning on changing my mind on that. So uh. Venus or Frida or Jennika or whoever don't exist in this particular AU lol. I feel a bit bad about it because, again, I relaly like Mystery Sister even if we barely know anything about her. But I've been constructing this story around her or any other secret siblings not existing, so I'd have to change too much of the current story to make them fit into the narrative and like ughhhh. So sorry, no Mystery Sister :/

I wanna talk about the two siblings of the turtles we never got to meet in ROTTMNT because the show wasn't popular enough (aka didn't sell enough toys) so it got cancelled (so sad we never got 7 seasons)

So, it's a long and complicated explanation so I hope you hang on for the ride before we get into what I think they should've been named.

SO most fans who are aware of the fact that there was a missing sibling of the turtles are aware of Big Mama's assistant. You've 100% seen her, as she's shown up in Many Unhappy Returns and Raph's Ride-Along. As a refresher, this is what she looks like (drawn by Collins).

And here's her face revealed in the 2024 TMNT 40th Anniversary Comic (Farewell section)

Now, a lot of the people who worked on the show don't remember exactly how early on she was planned, but they do know it was early. In episode "The Evil League of Mutants" you can see there are six pods, not just 4, in some of the frames.

This is just what we end up seeing in the show, there were a lot of plans with these two from what we've been told.

We also know that the plan for these characters were that they were going to be revealed at the end of season two as a way to launch us into season three and set up like two plot lines happening at once (sorta like X-Men Gold and X-Men Blue). One group would go with Splinter, one group would go with Draxum to find the different siblings (maybe even go to difference dimensions).

The idea is that Big Mama would raise one of them (her assistant) and Draxum had raised one as well. And Draxum was going to admit to this at the end of season two.

In August 2022 during a Twitch stream, the above information was revealed. The rest of it has been told us sporadically in Tweets:

Big Mama's Assistant was going to be an original character (as Conway recalls) so not Venus or Jennika

Ron Corcillo said it was planned she'd be named after a female artist and not an art piece, like Frida Kahlo

The turtles would figure out Big Mama's Assistant was their sister through many encounters with Big Mama (one avenue they were thinking about)

They hadn't thought about how exactly the turtles would retrieve their missing sisters, just that they would split up to do so

One idea was that the turltes would have to "win" Big Mama's Assistant back from Big Mama by helping her see she'd been brain washed as a child

Big Mama's Assistant was planned to be super serious/disciplined (so serious it was funny) while the other sister may have been a little odd from being trapped in another dimension for years

Big Mama's Assistant & the other missing sister would've been around the same age as the other turtle's (aka teenagers)

We also know that, while in most mentions about the missing siblings, it's stated that they were both girls (aka both sisters) to the turtles, in the TMNT 40th Anniversary Comic (2024), section "Farewell" Splinter says they have another brother and sister.

I don't know why the sudden change from two sisters to a brother & sister, but technically this is the only canonical mention of them, so do with that what you will (disregard or don't, who cares lol).

We have more information on Big Mama's Assistant than we do on the other sibling, but this is what we have to go on haha. But that's all I could personally find in tweet mentions and from the live stream on these characters, so now onto what I think we should've named these turtles.

I think we should follow the trend of naming these characters after Renaissance artists, because despite what some people believe, there were female Renaissance artists. We've known this for a while, they just aren't talked about as much as the male artists.

So here are some popular women Renaissance artists that would be fun to pull names from:

Properzia de' Rossi - the only woman to receive a biography in 1st edition of Vasari's Lives of the Artists

Plautilla Nelli - considered by many scholars to be the first-known woman artist of Renaissance Italy

Catharina van Hemessen - she is attributed with completing the first known self-portrait of an artist at their easel

Sofonisba Anguissola - one of the most successful women artists of the Renaissance

Diana Scultori Mantuana - one of the first female engravers

Lavinia Fontana - first female career artist in Western Europe as she relied on commissions for her income

Artemisia Gentileschi - the first woman to attend the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno

Admittedly, some of these artists are more well known for their art during the Baroque period but they still did art during the Renaissance period and plenty successful in their own right during that time period.

As for the brother (if you want to go with the comic) I think it'd be fun to see his name come from one of the principle artists of the High Renaissance period specifically (as 3/4 brothers come from these artists as well)

Donato Bramante - he introduced Renaissance architecture to Milan and the High Renaissance style to Rome

Giorgione - he is known for the elusive poetic quality of his work, though only about six surviving paintings are firmly attributed to him

Titian - was one of the most versatile of Italian painters, equally adept with portraits, landscape backgrounds, and mythological and religious subjects

My personal favorites (for two sisters) are Sofonisba (Sof or Sofie for short) and Catharina (Cat or Cathy for short). For brother & sister, I'm drawn to Artemisia (Artemis or Arti for short) and Giorgione (George or Georgie for short). But that's just what I think, what do y'all think?
